We realize that – oh no! – we are running out of things to do in Berlin! Since we keep passing by the metro station Alexanderplatz, it was decided that we should walk around and have a look.

We walked out of the Alexanderplatz station and came upon the TV tower, known as the Fernsehturm. (Apparently), there is a rotating restaurant in the middle of the sphere which makes a full rotation once every 30 minutes and is approximately 250?m off the ground which has a great view. We didn’t try it out but a friend swears it has the nicest views! We then stopped by at a local cafe/restaurant for food – he had the Schnitzel and I had ummm… Pork Knuckle with potatoes. White people food!

At a loss as to what we should do after that, we thought that maybe we should visit the zoo! So we catch the bus to the Zoologischer Garten (it even has its’ own metro stop!). Once we reach there, however, we come to the realization that wandering around the zoo in the cold cold weather (and slushy snow) may not be the best idea. Instead, we walk into several boutique shops around the area, and head to a local fair. We walked past booths selling candy apples and licorice as well as traditional game booths involving you, a dented fishing rod and ducks with magnets in their beaks. As well as other rides! The smell of candy floss, corn and hot chocolate wafted through the air as we walked hand in hand past the cute little booths (I didn’t take pictures since my other hand was deeply hidden in my pocket to conserve heat).

After a little of this, we decided to visit the nearby alcohol shop, get a bottle of wine and ummm well, lets just say I went to bed a little earlier than expected. =]

Sustainche enjoys watching ‘Polar Bear, Zebra and Company’ zoo animals TV. Today he followed how penguinche named Fritz tried to escape from his small zoo world. When Fritz found himself in freedom he immediately asked himself the famous sentence: ‘Now I’m in freedom, but where to go ?’ Fritz was captured. Sustainche also is happy seeing Indian elephantche babies Shila, Shahrukh und Rani playing around. One day he would love to observe elephantches in their natural savannah environment in Africa … real African elephantches ! Sustainche is fascinated by donkey Charlie. He remembers that from time to time he took pleasure in visiting a similar donkey near to his home in Stip, Macedonia. Sustainche has the impression that it is quite pleasant being a donkey: Charlie always finds something to eat and if he doesn’t want to move, nothing and nobody can make him move …

Charlie reminds Sustainche on Buridan’s Donkey. Buridan’s Donkey is an illustration of a paradox in philosophy in the conception of free will. It refers to a hypothetical situation wherein a donkey, placed precisely midway between a stack of hay and pail of water, will die of both hunger and thirst since it cannot make any rational decision to choose one over the other and therefore makes no move at all. The paradox is named after the 14th century French philosopher Jean Buridan, although it did not originate in Buridan’s time. It dates to ancient times, being first found in Aristotle’s – of course ! – On the Heavens.

Sustainche can’t ignore his feeling that human mammals behave like Buridan’s Donkey. Mankind makes no move because it is as hungry as it is thirsty and is positioned exactly between food and drink: ‘Clear, climate change is a problem, but so is to keep our achieved living standard’. ‘Yes, human mammals enjoy watching small Polar Bear Knut in Berlin Zoo, but why driving less with private cars in order to preserve Knut’s ancestors original Polar home ?’ ‘Of course we want and we need to fight climate change, but not at the expense of our 833,000 employees somehow connected with the German automobile industry.’ Sustainche feels that human mammals experience a classical ‘but’-dilemma of free will. This refers to mankind in large, as well as to societies and social groups. Even farmers in Afghanistan and drug dealers on a worldwide scale can argue that their jobs are endangered if heroin production is prohibited.

To be concluded

Berlin is a fascinating place: it is steeped in history which still resonates deeply throughout the city, from its wide boulevards around the Brandenburg Gate to its seamier quarters to the east of the wall. The best way to orientate yourself and begin to experience the richness of the city is through one of the brilliant free walking tours. I did one with New Berlin Tours and it was great; the guide, Mike, was funny and extremely knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was really friendly.

The majestic Brandenburg Gate

You meet close to the imposing Brandeburg Gate and spend the next three hours or so visiting all of the main attractions in the city as listed on the link above. The new Holocaust Memorial, in the news recently after Easyjet ran fashion photographs taken there in its in-flight magazine, is a sombre and moving site, and the impact is probably sharpened by its proximity to the location of Hitler’s former bunker (which, unsurprisingly, is barely commemorated).

Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

The museum is a terrifying reminder of the Third Reich, and is a difficult but truly worthwhile experience. The personal stories which are told are evocative and harrowing, and a visit leaves you very contemplative for the rest of the day and a long while afterwards.

On a happier note, the memorial is next to a strip of truly dreadful cafeterias serving up second-rate reheated drudge to budget travellers such as myself. I had the misfortune to eat a spaghetti bolognaise served up by a guy who looked like he was from the Village People, before being chased out of the bathroom by a very small woman wielding a can of air freshener and shouting at me in German.

I spent a lot of time in Berlin running away from toilet attendants who would attempt to extort half a euro every time as I so much thought about paying a visit to the loo. I actually sprinted out of Dunkin’ Donuts near Zoologischer Garten station one day to escape from a particularly angry man who was brandishing a tip tray at me and making vivid gestures towards the toilet.

The Hotel Adlon

Opposite the Brandenburg Gate is the Hotel Adlon, where the late great Michael Jackson famously dangled one of his children out of the window. The Presidential Suite on the top floor costs $12,000-a-night and has bulletproof glass in the windows among its many very cool features. If I win the lottery…

The Reichstag is the home of the German Parliament, and its roof alone makes it worth a visit. You can look down into the chamber when parliament is in session: “a reminder to the politicians that we are always looking in on them and that they are accountable to us,” an ageing Berliner told me. Get there early to beat the crowds, and be prepared for a very thorough (in my case, patently illegal) level of frisking. All I will say is avoid the security guard with the handlebar moustache.

The Reichstag roof

The Berlin Wall, which collapsed 20 years ago, is an integral part of the visit, though very few parts of it remain intact and those that do are protected by fencing. As with many parts of the city’s history, there’s a residual feeling of shame and embarrassment about it amongst the city’s residents, who you feel would rather live without the permanent reminders of their country’s past.

Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie is very artificial and one of the few attractions in the city which is a little underwhelming. But you can take your disappointment away by heading into the unbelievably decadent Fassbender & Rausch chocolate shop which has models of things such as the Reichstag and the Titanic, all made out of chocolate. The only thing stopping me from plunging my face straight in was concern about how long they had been there.

The Reichstag - made of chocolate

The city’s musems are excellent; the Pergamon Museum has the Altar of Zeus poached fromPergamon in Turkey (and, having been to the latter, it somewhat misses it). They are pricey to get in to, but if you are prepared to brave the crowds and do them fairly quickly they are all free on a Thursday afternoon.

Pergamon Museum entrance

They are clustered towards the chic but still somewhat down-at-heel east of the city, in the shadow of the TV Tower. It affords phenomenal views across Berlin, even on murky days, and has a revolving restaurant more than 200 metres above the city. Again, an early start equates to a more enjoyable visit.

The TV Tower - all 368 metres of it

The zoo is the other must-see attraction within the city; it has an outstanding range of animals including gorillas, pandas, elephants, and tigers, and of course the world-famous Knut the polar bear. Set aside at least an afternoon to spend here, and go when the weather is going to be dry as the best animals are all outside.

A penguin doing his best Marilyn Manson impression

To end on a sombre note, though, Germany’s 20th century history permeates virtually everything in and around the city, and perhaps nowehere is more important to visit than Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Take a train out of Berlin to either Sachsenhausen or Strasse der Nationen. If you walk from the former you can follow the death march which some of the prisoners were led on.

The sign marking the death march

As with the Holocaust memorial in the city, it is a very graphic realisation of the horrors of what went on there less than a century ago. The tour around is well-constructed and allows plenty of time for personal exploration and reflection. Imposing, thought-provoking, and with a huge underlying unease, it in many ways replicates the city itself.

Every day Jon Gosselin appears to be turning out more and more like Knut the Bear and it’s scary. Besides their growing physical girth, addiction to publicity and attention, they have an enormous sense of entitlement. Jon now reveals in his legal papers against TLC, that he simply cannot go out and get a regular job because he is too famous!

BABY KNUT AND YOUNG JON

I am sure that if Knut, the Berlin Zoo Bear could speak he would say the exact same thing. He would say that he can’t go out and be a real bear and hunt and do bear things in the wild because he is too famous. And he might be right. That means Jon might be right as well.

TLC made Jon into a famous zoo animal, documenting his every move, feeding him and attending to his every need as they treated him like a star .He was part of their cash cow TV show pulling in millions of dollars . Similarly, t he Berlin Zoo documented Knut’s every move, feeding him and attending o his every need as they treated him like a star. Knut was the zoo’ cash cow, pulling in millions of eruos.

Then young Knut grew up as did young, 27 year old Jon. With age came more issues. Knut’s issues were that because of all the attention he had since cubhood, he became so addicted to the crowd looking at him, that when they dissipated, he got upset. They dissipated because he was no longer the cute little white small playful fur ball. He was raised with attention and he now desperately needed it. According to zoo officials he actually cries out and whimpers if there are no crowds outside his cage. One time the zoo had to be shut down because there was black ice everywhere and Knut howled and cried so loudly until staff members stood before him. Only then did he stop crying and display signs of happiness.

Jon, in his formative job years should have been out securing job experience and employment and career opportunities. But instead, his job was staying at home with the kids and changing th multitude of diapers. He had a camera in his face all the time and actually enjoyed the attention, even though he never admitted it. He then started to compete with Kate because she was getting more attention than him. I am not saying that is what broke them up but that was clearly his role in it as I see it. Her role was her abuse and disrespecting Jon. His role was his jealously of her in that that she was getting more attention than him. It became a Toxic Competitive relationship.

He even admitted this publically as se said on various shows how he didn’t like staying at home with the kids and changing diapers while Kate was out doing lectures and getting famous and hanging around with her body guard. He wanted some of that fun fame too. So he got himself some girlfriends and rebelled in a big way. ,.Now, he can’t seem to get enough public attention , just like Knut.If he doesn’t get it, he acts out just like Knut.
TLC AND THE BERLIN ZOO CREATED MONSTERS AND NOW NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
TLC created a monster just as the Berlin zoo created a monster. Their imprinting these three played a key role. WE have to include Kate as well as she suffers from Knut the Bear Syndrome as much as Jon, if not more. Remember what you learned in Psychology 101 with that Conrad Lorenz experiment and the gosselings (not the Gosselins) followed the human around thinking he was their mother? The same thing happened with Knut. Because of all the human contact he sees himself as a human. Because of all the attention he sees himself as a star. Because of all the attrention both Jon and Kate also see himself as stars. Like Knut, they were imprinted by the cameras following them around constantly/

One of the Zoo keepers said that Knut should be sent to an animal park, where he would receive less attention. I believe that would be cruel and inhumane punishment for this bear. They created the problem for him and now they need to deal with it. That is the same thing for Jon. They created the problem for him and they need to deal with it.

IF TLC GIVES KATE A SHOW THEY SHOULD GIVE ONE TO JON TOO!

Jon is absolutely right. He can’t get a regular job. Who would hire him? Who wants papps around all the time documenting their employees every move? That would no doubt happen. At this point Jon seems to be able to only function in the limelight in front of the camera. If TLC is going to give Kate a talk show (big mistake), then give Jon a show too.! Let’s watch him. Grow up just like we watched his kids grow up. We could watch him with Hailey and watch how he deals with Kate now that he is divorced. We can watch him try to do projects to make money like using his fame to sell tee shirts . We can watch him transform into a man instead of an immature boy. Or maybe we can watch him as an immature boy.

They can’t tie Jon’s hands and say he can’t do other shows or do merchandising. When he initially signed up he had no idea it would blow up this big, So they cannot cut off his hands or other body parts just because he sauis enough: IU don’t want my kids on camera anymore.

TLC SHOULD GET THE GOSSELIN KIDS INTO THERAPY ASAP SO THEY DON’T DEVELOP KNUT THE BEAR SYNDROME

While he may have initially made that move to get back at Kate, In retrospect, it is great thing for those children to be of the air. They need to live without camera before they turn into Knut the Bears. Unfortunately, some of them already have Knut the Bear Syndrome. The verdict is still out as they are still young. We may see some terrible things in the future- violence, acting out , and a serious demand for attention,

.Kate even reported that they were acting out since the divorce, Now that the camera are gone, they may be acting out even more. If they aren’t given attention some of them may act out in a bad way, just like Knut. They may do things like so many child stars have done in the past. They may go off the deep end because they aren’t getting the attention they once had.. All of these former child stars who went awry have all Suffered from the Knut the Bear Syndrome. Just ask my dear friend and former child star, Paul Peterson. He has seen it up close and personal. As President of a Minor Consideration, he has attended way too many funerals of child stars,. He is an advocate for kids in the media and is an advocate for the little Gosselins as well, as well so they don’t suffer from Knut the Bear Syndrome.

The bottom line is Jon is right,! TLC made it so he can’t get a regular job. So they need to release him from his contract so he can do other shows. They need to use some intelligence and give Jon his own show so he can function in the media. Just as the Berlin Zoo took advantage of baby Knut’s cuteness and made millions, they have a responsibility to now care for him and handle the damage they created for Knut psychologically .

TLC has the same responsibility. They took advantage of a family of multiples where they made millions. Now they have the burden of responsibility to care for what they created in Jon psychologically. They created for him his insatiable need to be in the public eye and they must fulfill it. And don’t email me with silly comments about other people being in the media and that not happening to them. Jon is a different case. He obviously is more susceptible and emotionally fragile than those names of people whom you will no doubt mention and provide examples. This is the fallout of the show and they need to handle it, And while they are at it, they need to provide the funds for free therapy for the rest of the Gosselin children for the rest of their lives . In doing so, they can help deter or mollify the negative effects in case these kids begin to show signs of Knut the Bear Syndrome. www.drlillianglass.com

The Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and I thought it was the perfect time to hop a weekend flight from Lond

The Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and I thought it was the perfect time to hop a weekend flight from London to explore the light and dark side of this controversial German city. The Wall had served as a physical barrier dividng this city into the light and dark of German life since 1961. When the barrier was finally opened, it shed light on the bleak and dismal conditions in the east compared to the raucous (often bawdy by western standards) life in the west.

Generations chipping away at history

As a reporter, I thought the perfect time to visit would be the eve of the first free elections in Berlin in nearly three decades. So I packed my carry-on weekender with clothing and broadcast equipment. I figured it would be a working weekend and I could therefore write-off the cost of the journey (freelancers have to plan ahead). However, upon arriving at Heathrow, the exact same carry-on I had just used from NY to London days earlier was suddenly not acceptable for the journey from Heathrow to Berlin and British Airways took it from me right on the jet-way. Right away, I knew that suitcase would not make it with me because we had a stopover in Hamburg (land of The Early Beatles). I landed in Berlin but my suitcase made a stopover in Hamburg – there goes the equipment to cover the elections.

Fortunately, my wandering nomad, musician boyfriend at the time had insisted I stay at a five-star hotel so the staff at the Berlin Intercontinental could not have been more helpful. Toothbrushes, toiletries, even clothing were offered to me…..and they spoke English (a rare thing back then). I could barely get my NY producer interested in the story with sound and without a tape recorder and phone hook-up, the story was dead and I was left to my own devices in a city where I didn’t speak the language.

West Berlin was not the seedy, wild place some people told me it would be. It was actually quite reserved and I felt quite safe walking the streets at night. The shock came during the day when my bus passed a park where dozens of women were sunbathing TOPLESS in the middle of the city. That was the wildest thing I saw while in Berlin and I’m a New Yorker. I spent the day exploring by walking the wall and watching so many Germans thoroughly excited to be able to venture to the “other side.” I visited the bombed out Kaiser Wilhelm Church from World War II, which still stands in the center of Berlin, and the Berlin Zoo,

Berlin Zoo

which was my favorite place, a peaceful oasis in a very stark and lonely city. However, what sticks in my memory all these years later is the servicemen – both German and American.

When I approached Checkpoint Charlie, the post which had stood watch at the wall for many years, an American GI called out to me because he saw the US Airforce patches I had sewn onto the pockets of my bomber jacket. No matter where you are, no matter the country, time of year or time of day, there is something so heartwarming about seeing an American GI. It always gives me the warm and fuzzies because it’s always a friendly, familiar face, even when you have just met. Yet, the German soldiers on the east side of the wall looked like lost sheep, almost frightened of their new position in life in light of the changes on the horizon. There was no warm greeting from any of them. Those whom I photographed looked with a blank gaze and as I walked through the streets of east Berlin they seemed to reflect the emptiness which must have imprisoned this city for decades. I was alone and the streets were desolate. There were monuments which towered over me and no one to admire them – the city, both east and west, was clearly a study in contrasts.

Three-year-old Gianna, who originally came to Germany from Italy, will initially be separated by a fence from her intended mate. If the two Arctic omnivores take a liking to one another, zookeepers hope they will mate upon reaching sexual maturity in another two years.

Oh dear god we all know what disasters await zoo keepers when they try to friggin match mate. Hello, do I have to mention Z and Vielpunkt the gay penguins (Germany), Tsuyoshi and Kurumi the lesbian polar bears (Japan), Harry and Pepper the bi-sexual penguins (San Francisco) or Ninio the lonely gay elephant (Poland). Are you guys sure you know what you are doing? Rumors are rife that the Berlin Zoo is planning to match their most famous polar bear Knut, with a saucy Italian female bear?
Dubbed the “racy Italian”, Gianna, who is the same age as Knut, has been having a few problems at her current home at the Hellabrunn zoo in Munich. Seems she isn’t on speaking terms with Yoghi, a 10 year old bear.So the bitch Gianna will be moving to Berlin. Good luck with that because Knut isn’t expected to reach sexual maturity for another two years. Hmm, imagine how bitchy she will be by then ? Don’t be surprised if Knut joins the group mentioned above, real soon!

by Markus Fürst The game plan for last Sunday went like this: morning at the zoo after which we’d he

by Markus Fürst

The game plan for last Sunday went like this: morning at the zoo after which we’d head out to Tiergarten, kick around a ball with the kids, spread a blanket and savor my wife’s once-a-season brownies in the sunshine.

But the day made its own plans. One thing led to another (how could I pass up taking photos at the zoo?) morning eased its way to two o’clock and after a hearty laugh over the feeding of the sea lions, our attempt to change gears failed us. Cayden remembered his unwritten book report and Maddy’s feet swelled in her new sandals. By four we were in the car, unceremoniously shoving in Cara’s brownies on the brief ride home.

The Berlin Zoo, if you know it, is a tranquil place. An oasis in the middle of a laid-back but nevertheless urbanized setting. My camera found its regular inhabitants in usual form: silent, watchful, peering out at us with doleful eyes,

While others lay clustered and lethargic, defying our notions of their ferocity,

And some were crouched low, nearly camouflaged by the tint of murky water and stone,

Many had business of their own to do, oblivious if we looked or not,

And as we passed, weary and foot-swollen, through strange cavernous architecture chasing that elusive moment of connection..

They nodded farewell, mutely and with cryptic stares, leaving us uncertain if we’d ever be welcomed back.

But it’s no big deal. We’ve got our own fickle beast at home. And one with his own curious set of problems.

Me: “Do you have any polar bears?”

Guard: “No, we gave them away. Yeah, we gave them to Germany”

And we saw the Rhino responsible for this in solitary confinement, she looked remorseful….

Two items in the media really struck a chord with me recently and brought to mind some important life lessons.

Life Lesson #1: If you jump into a den of hungry polar bears, you should prepare to be EATEN!

A woman inexplicably jumped into the moat of the Polar Bear habitat at the Berlin Zoo during feeding time. Guess what happened?

Someone actually got a picture of the attack and it is disturbing. But you know what? SHE was the one that jumped in there! What did she think was going to happen? (Although I wonder if there may not have been extenuating circumstances compelling her to jump.) It made me think about all the times I have done silly, reckless things and then felt sorry for myself when I suffer the consequences.

Life Lesson #2: Different can be good!

Have you all seen this? I have watched it countless times and still get emotional.

I am officially a HUGE Susan Boyle fan now. I hope she sees ALL her dreams come true. What a brave, talented woman!!!

As a mother of a child with special needs, who sometimes does not match that perfect little model that the world would impose upon him, this clip spoke to me on a VERY deep level. We live in such a fickle, shallow society. People are often automatically dismissed if they are deemed too different. It broke my heart to see that crowd make fun of Susan, and I felt triumphant WITH her when she brought them to their feet. She SHAMED them. It made me weep because she doesn’t fit the image that society thinks is cool and yet she ROCKS!!!

The internet is buzzing about Susan’s performance. CNN even reported on it today, “Never-kissed woman wows Cowell, becomes YouTube sensation”. You should read the comments people have made, they are wonderful! The video also showed up on Give Me My Remote. I love the comment by Catherine, “You have proven in a showstopping moment how we should not judge anyone on first appearances, nor should we ignore middle aged women and dismiss them as ‘invisible.’ You are magic.”

And as for the audience that made fun of her… well, maybe we should throw them to the Polar Bears!

Ok, so technically this isn’t a celebrity gossip piece, but a reader has begged us at The Squealer to post this Hi-larious story.

A woman was attacked by a polar bear at Berlin Zoo on Friday, after jumping into it’s enclosure during feeding time.

Berlin Police Officer, Goerg Gebhard, said one adult bear bit the woman several times on her arms and legs after she plunged into the moat.

Zoo workers tossed rescue rings toward the woman to hoist her out and distract polar bears swimming nearby.

At one point the the 32-year-old fell back into the water and was grabbed by a bear before she was eventually hoisted to safety.

It is not known why the woman pulled the dangerous stunt but onlookers said she initially appeared to be elated as she swam towards a bear in the enclosure.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment where she is now recovering after undergoing surgery to heal her wounds.

Maybe she was looking for a bear hug?

*Actual footage of the incident from the 0:28 mark.

Welcome to Newslip. I’m Wesley Gerrard. Today is Easter Sunday, 12th April 2009. Here are the stories making this week’s headlines.

Assistant commissioner Bob Quick inadvertently leaked details of a major anti-terrorism operation to the media by openly carrying sensitive documents into Downing Street which were photographed then released on the internet. This triggered an immediate swoop by the Northwest Counter-Terrorism Unit in an improvised raid on the suspects they had been monitoring in Manchester, Liverpool and the surrounding areas. Twelve people were arrested under the Terrorism act, eleven of them being Pakistani nationals. They had dossiers on several key landmarks in Manchester and an imminent attack was planned. Bob Quick has resigned from his position due to his critical mistake.

Two brothers aged ten and eleven have been charged with attempted murder, theft of a mobile phone and five pounds. In Edlington, near Doncaster, the two primary school pupils laid a trap at a quarry for two young victims. These victims were admitted to hospital with severe injuries. One was put on life support after being found unconscious at the crime scene. The other had two emergency operations. They suffered severe stab wounds and cigarette burns. The perpetuators have been admitted to foster care while they await trial.

Twenty four people were killed when an Indonesian military aircraft crashed into a hangar in wet weather on Monday and burst into flames. The dead included seventeen special force troops in parachute training, a crew of six and an instructor. It is unknown exactly what caused the crash in Bandung. Indonesian army equipment is known to be relatively dilapidated after a US arms embargo has only just recently been lifted.

2 new videos have emerged regarding the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests in London. Mr Tomlinson died of a heart attack on his way home from work at a newsagents in the area. Initially, police denied any contact with Mr Tomlinson but the videos show him walking past police with his hands in his pockets, and prove that he was attacked by a police officer from behind with a baton before being violently thrown to the ground. The IPCC are investigating the issue and it is hoped that the guilty police officer will face charges.

400 prisoners at HMP Ashwell near Rutland in Leicestershire have rioted. The breakdown in discipline at the 600 capacity low security category C prison has led to smoke billowing from the building. Police cordoned off the vicinity to protect local residents from potential outbreaks. They have been trying to regain control of the jail. It is unknown what caused the riots though apparently the facility is extremely short-staffed with as few as twelve guards looking after the prisoners.

The anarchy in the Indian Ocean due to the activites of Somali pirates intensified this week when the American container ship, the Maersk Alaska was attacked three hundred miles from the Somali coast. Captain Richard Phillips was taken hostage in a lifeboat commandeered by the pirates. The crew managed to escape to port to safety. After prolonged efforts of diplomacy to release the hostage, the three US Navy warships that were tracking the incident, finally staged a rescue mission, killing three pirates but retrieving Captain Phillips safely. Also this week, an Italian tugboat was attacked. The growing number of incidents of piracy in the area poses a major problem to international shipping companies.

One of Gordon Brown’s most trusted advisers has resigned from his post as Prime Minsterial aide after a smear scandal emerged at number 10. Damian McBride quit his post after emails from his number 10 account were leaked to the press. He had been trying to start a smear campaign on a leftwing website by spreading malicious gossip about David Cameron and shadow chancellor, George Osbourne. Senior Tories and Labour backbenchers have called for an enquiry into the sleazy actions of Gordon Brown’s private office.

A major summit of Asian leaders has been cancelled in Thailand after protesters took to the streets. A state of emergency was declared as supporters of ousted prime minster Thaksin Sinawatra put pressure on the standing government. Roads were blocked and government buildings attacked. The foreign office has put warnings out to anyone considering travelling to Bangkok. Thailand has had a number of severely disruptive protest incidents recently.

Visitors and staff at Berlin’s zoo were shocked when a 31 year old woman clambered over barriers at the polar bear enclosure before innoculously plunging into the water with the bears. It was feeding time at the zoo and the very dangerous bears thwarted initial rescue attempts of the woman and played about with her like a chunk of meat, giving her some very serious bites. Eventually the crazed woman was dragged away to safety by zookeepers. She was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment. It is unknown what caused the lucky woman to act in such an irrational manner.

And this week’s top story…

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale was concentrated on the Italian mountain town of l’Aquila when it struck last Monday. 289 people are known to have died and over 28000 people made homeless. A mass funeral was held for quake victims. Italian premier, Silvio Berlusconi pledged to open up his personal villas to help the homeless in the wake of the tragedy. Football players and politicians have led the cash support pledges to the victims. It is the worst earthquake event in tectonically-active Italy for thirty years.

That’s all for this week’s Newslip. Thanks for tuning in. See you all very soon. Goodbye.

All I have to say to this is… sorry, but when you jump in an enclosed cage for animals at the zoo you should know that you’re bound for injury or death. She is damn lucky that she is still alive and hopefully will be held accountable for her foolish decision. Thank God she is alive, but very stupid decision to jump in during feeding time!!!
