Bernard Oluwafemi Jemilohun That the world is sentenced to destruction by fire is not new. The Bible

Bernard Oluwafemi Jemilohun

That the world is sentenced to destruction by fire is not new. The Bible spoke of this many years ago. Thus one should not be worried about the self-destructive tendencies of the earth or its rulers. The earth is fading…

What is disturbing and rather worrisome is the wealth-accumulating attitude of some believers and ministers and the undue emphasis on wealth. It is like Jesus’ warning that we should not lay treasures upon the earth has been expunged from their Bibles.

More saddening is the fact that this “wealth” has become an object of their boasting even on the altar! Jesus clearly said a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. If truly Jesus is our Master, how is it that we are comfortable living unlike Him?

Many young people now look at the glamour side of almost everything including ministry. Our pursuit of life’s purpose has now become coloured by an unhealthy desire for wealth. The Bible is clear: the love of many is the root of all evil.

The simple truth is that everything accumulated on earth will perish with the earth. Our focus must not be here where moth and rust corrupt and thieves break in and steal. We must labour for a city with enduring infrastructure.

Whatever wealth God has entrusted to us must be deployed in the service of God for the benefit of our fellow men. We must pursue eternal relevance beyond earthly recognition. It is that which is done for men according to God’s plan that will last.

Settle it in your heart that you cannot gain the whole world. Your soul is of far greater importance than anything you may acquire. Use your God-given wealth and resources to enrich others and refuse to estimate your wealth by your assets. Rather invest in souls – they last forever.

And by the way… What do you have that you have not received? And if you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?
