Last night I dreamed a few dreams. The last dream I recall was that I was in another State, walking

Last night I dreamed a few dreams. The last dream I recall was that I was in another State, walking along a deserted street, and saw a kind of low priced clothes store. The place was in some State like Arizona or where ever there aren’t very many people living. I think they were Indians. There was a sign on the window saying $8 for really really nice dresses, that looked like they were either rayon or cotton. They were the kind of dresses that I like. There were the long flowery feminine looking styles. The particular one I saw in the window had light blue and cream colored flowered print on it. And a tie to tie it in back. So I went inside and inquired about the dresses. The store was almost empty. And the owner and clerk inside said, in broken English, that yes they did have those in stock, but that we’d have to climb down into the basement and take those dresses out. They hadn’t placed them out yet because they were so low on staff. So I and another woman climbed down an almost straight angled ladder, down into the warehouse. Where there were lots and lots of boxes full of new clothes not yet placed on the floor. So as I was down there and pulling boxes up and handing them to the person upstairs, someone ran out and crossed off the $8 and wrote $40. By the time I found the dresses that looked like the one in the window, they’d decided that I’d have to pay more for anything there.

I don’t remember how it ended or if I even bought anything. But then I remember walking in another large area where there were other low-priced stores, looking for clothes like those.

I think that the reason that there were Indians in this dream is that lately there have been a lot of programs on the PBS channel about Indians and their plight. It seems the channel’s owned by Indians. I’ve seen several shows about it now. And I don’t think it has anything to do with Thanksgiving either.

Yesterday I got a good workout at the gym. I feel a little stiff today. But I seriously have to begin that regime again, of going to the gym.

The only other thing that I did yesterday was cuddle with my bunnies and watch another flick. It was “The Reader”. I read that novel years ago. It was a good movie, but the ending was sad. I had Pinkie with me on the bed. But she was hungry I figured out, because she kept nipping me. That’s what she does when she’s hungry I realized. As soon as I put her into her cage she went for the alfalfa and began gobbling it. Poor little bunny was hungry.

Right now Priti’s hopping around the living room loose. She plops down on her tummy to rest. It’s the cutest things I’ve seen ever. I call her “little plopper”, because of her plopping over, and her plopping little round poops on the floor all of the time. I totally love that bunny. Right this minute Priti is laying on her tummy with her legs out, looking right at me. As if she’s taking a rest from her morning escapades of running around the living room. They both have their own little personalities. And then Nala likes to chase Priti. But the other bunny Pinkie prefers to chase Nala. She follow Nala around the place, hopping right behind her. Sometimes Nala turns around and takes a swipe at her, but she doesn’t run away. She just stands there and then steps forward another inch. Nala isn’t used to being bothered by a persistent bunny. Pinkie doesn’t have a fear of cats.

I made coffee and have no cream or soy milk. I can’t stand it when I run out of soy milk and other food. I want to go to the social services office and get some food stamps. But they turned me down months ago. Seriously, what the hell?

I’m going to go over and have another huge Thanksgiving dinner with Bernie at Bethany. Even though I can’t stand some of the women who are also there, I don’t need to talk to them. I’ll just bring some chips and dip and try to hold my tongue. I am sure that I’ll have something to write about tomorrow, about tonight. Oh and I told Bernie about the possible interview at the women’s shelter. She said it’s got lots of children in it, and that I have to put up with kids crying. I won’t be liking that at all. But so far the woman hasn’t sent me the email she said she’d send me, so maybe they won’t.

Today or tomorrow I really want to buy some new fabric for a new pattern I bought. And I so want to do some sewing. For some reason, I loose interest in the garments that I start, sometime after I’ve started putting them together. It’s like I get to the point where I am almost done, and then I find another pattern that I like better.

Well that’s all for now. Just me in my little apartment with my bunnies, kitty and t.v. and of course my computer.

America The Horrible

O radical, for spacious cries,
For amber waves of pain,
For rich speculating majesties
Above the poor and lame!
America! America! God shed His homophobia on thee,
And crown thy rich with hypocrisy, from tax haven to the sea.

O discriminee, for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for unlawful beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God showed thine ev’ry flaw;
Confirm thy soul in self ridicule, thy discrimination in law!

O homophobe, for heroes mocked
In denouncing strife,
Who more than self their country loved
But stabbed with a sharp knife!
America! America! May God thy brains define,
Till all success becomes impossible, and ev’ry law malign!

O horrible, for equality dream
That sees beyond the years,
Thine politics as pretty as dog cream
Unimproved by human tears!
America! America! God shed His fallibility on thee,
And make thy poor just poorer, stuck in shit up to the knee!

OK, so why did I write this rather radical post? Two occurences:

#1 Bernie Goldberg appeared on Fox News and tried to smear Liberals/Democrats and tried to explain why Liberals hate Sarah Palin. His brainless hypothesis: “She has 5 kids. Liberals don’t have 5 kids. One of them has down-syndrome. Liberals certainly don’t allow that to happen.” I think Jon Stewart’s response sums it up very well: “Go fuck yourself”, later adding “Eunice Kennedy Shriver [one of nine Kennedy children] founded the Special Olympics because she wanted an organized form where she could mock children with down-syndrome. Of course the Special Olympics is to winners as Fox news is to experts. If you show up, you are one”

watch the entire clip of Stewarts coverage of the Palin hype here.

#2 A 10-year-old child from Arkansas refused to pledge allegiance to the flag of the US. His reasoning? The Pledge of Allegiance states “with liberty and justice for all”. The kid thinks this has not been accomplished yet since homosexuals are still severely discriminated in the US. What happened after that? He got mobbed by his fellow students AND teachers alike. I really do love some Americans and how to oversell their patriotism. If that’s not all some (fortunately not all) posters on a Christian forum picked on him even more. Some excerpts:

“These are the types of kids who grow up to be those ultra-jerky liberals who think they are smarter then everyone else because they can articulate well. The kinds of people who take Michael Moore and Richard Dawkins seriously.”

“Eh, the little punk needs to be slapped.”

“If you can’t pledge allegiance to this country get the heck out of it, or change it.”

I think it’s sad if somebody is mocked for a true statement. And some of these idiots should consider what psychological consequences their mocking might have. But well, criticizing the truth is one of mankind’s favorite activity… I’ve got nothing more to say to this…

The popular Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal will later this week be given the green light to return

The popular Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal will later this week be given the green light to return to the F1 calendar in 2010, claim reports – at just a fraction of the $175 million CAN fee Formula One Management chief executive Bernie Ecclestone had originally been demanding

The Canadian Grand Prix is set to be definitively confirmed on the 2010 F1 World Championship calendar, according to reports – at an annual fee some $20 million CAN (£11.3 million) less than commercial rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone had originally been demanding.

The popular race was removed from the F1 schedule in 2009 as the result of an ongoing financial dispute between Ecclestone’s Formula One Management (FOM) company and then race promoter Grand Prix du Canada, run by Normand Legault. The former’s stipulation for the grand prix to be re-instated was initially a staggering $175 million CAN over five years – but now it appears a deal has been hammered out for just $75 million CAN.

At the end of what has been described as a ‘marathon’ of negotiations bedevilled by obstacles and ultimatums, an agreement has been reached between Ecclestone and the three levels of government involved, with the green light set to be given later this week to finally confirm the currently provisional 13 June date on the F1 2010 schedule, following a number of false dawns. French-language Montreal newspaper La Presse reports that such an announcement is now merely ‘a formality’.

It is also stated that the organisations who will foot the annual $15 million CAN bill – the governments of Québec, Ottawa and Montreal and the Montreal Tourism association – had been unsure about pushing ahead with the deal in the wake of the recent manufacturer withdrawals from F1, with fears that a less attractive grid might draw in fewer spectators, and therefore less revenue.

Ottawa is set to contribute $5 million CAN, Quebec $4 million CAN and Montreal $1 million CAN via the Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau, where the iconic and popular Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is situated. Tourism Montreal will chip in the remaining $5 million CAN, with the city’s hoteliers having been convinced to charge a special tax on accommodation over the grand prix weekend, as has been done in the past. In return for their investment, the governments will recoup 30 per cent of the ticket sales.

The new race promoter will be Octane, directed by Legault’s long-time right-hand man François Dumontier.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8374911.stm

… They better be. F1 see’s two back to back British champions for the first time in forty years, and also it seems that both of those British champions will be in the same British team, that’s the second oldest team in the sport. Not to mention the fact that it was an all British team (Brawn) that won both the Drivers and Constructers titles in 2009, and McLaren won the Drivers title in 2008. So it seems ridiculous to think that there may not be a British Grand Prix in 2010! Britain really is the heart of motorsport, so I hope that it all gets resolved, as the market for F1 in Britain clearly must be at a high that hasn’t been experienced for quite some time.

So in closing… Please Bernie, please don’t forget you and F1’s roots, and where it all belongs. Don’t let your ego and love for money get in the way.

Relevant song lyric of the post: Fleetwood Mac – The Chain

“Chain…keeps us together
(run into the shadows)”

Closing KoLd Quote:

“The home of motorsport is in Britain. Therefore, along with the great tracks that have such a heritage in F1, of Spa, Monza, Monaco and a few more (many not on the calendar these days, unfortunately), a British Grand Prix should be a no-brainer, a secure vote year in, year out. The majority of the true fans don’t want to see a procession around bland, Tilke-built Valencia, they don’t even want to see cars driving around a multi-million dollar Singapore or Abu-Dhabi. They want to see true, wheel to wheel racing, by the best drivers in the world, on the tracks that have proven to be the best in the world. We want to see a true battle between the best. Not a metropolis or a circus, used to distract the public from the poor racing.”

There is a quote from H. L. Mencken that reads, “Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.” Since first reading it, I’ve been struck by those words and have remembered them. Every normal man must sometimes want to throw caution to the wind and be a pirate, it says, to slit throats with abandon and claim the spoils regardless of consequence. It is tempting. But I also read a deeper meaning in it. A rallying cry, a warning, a call-to-arms. There comes a time, these words say, when every man will have to take action, make a stand, and risk everything to fight for what they value or else lose it to another’s plundering.

I’ve never read that line in its original context. Those sentiments may not be remotely near what the author intended when writing it. But a learned man once told me that what we see on our own is more important than what we are told to see. You can be taught to see more, to see better, he said, but never fully trust what you are told. So Mr. Mencken will have to pardon my conclusions; they are mine alone.

Hoist the black flag, he said. Slit throats. To war, then, and to the victor goes the spoils. It strikes me that much of American society is already busy at pirating, or was until the Big Bust of 2008. Wanting a large payoff from a smaller, somewhat riskier investment seemed to be the prevailing modus operandi. Flip houses. Flip cars. Flip companies. Trust Bernie with your money. Cheat (but slyly) on your taxes. In fact, cheat at anything if you think you won’t get caught. Score as much credit as possible. Buy things you can’t afford with someone else’s money. Lie and steal from your government, your employer, your family, your fellow man. Anything for the almighty dollar.

If you were in construction, you threw together as many buildings as possible and waited for fat profits to roll in, and who cares about the structural integrity of those houses and business spaces. So what if the floor joists won’t last five years, and the basement leaks if so much as a dog takes a whizz two doors down, and the wallboard emits poisonous gas? Sorry, buddy, you were dumb enough to sail into my harbor and your throat just got slit. Thanks for the booty. Besides, that’s what homeowner’s insurance is for.

If you were in insurance you issued thousands of policies that were useless and refused to pay claims, slitting more throats and raking in treasure chests of booty. Your house burnt? Oh, so sorry, we won’t pay for anything damaged by smoke or water or heat or any wall left standing. Tell you what, we’ll give you this month’s mortgage payment plus an extra $50. We’re feeling very generous today. A hurricane you say? Your house flooded? Oh how awful. But no, sorry, we don’t pay off on damages from storm surge. Nope, it’s not a flood, it’s a wave, and we don’t cover that. Sorry. Don’t forget, your next payment is due in two weeks. Bye bye now.

And of course there were still the usual rackets of car sales, internet companies, Wall Street, and, well, anything run by the government. Anything to make another dollar, and the less honest the better. Hey, that’s the new American Dream: getting something for nothing. From the world’s largest corporation to grade schoolers, everyone’s playing pirate.

But someone somewhere is losing. Someone is watching their house or car or savings or future circle the drain when that newest chest is drug on board the winning ship and its golden contents are revealed. With a pirate on every side wondering how they can get their hands on it next.

So what does this have to do with Mencken’s quote? I think the deeper meaning behind it says you have to be your own pirate, be prepared to fight for anything you want, and if you really want it you can’t let others stand in your way. If keeping your job means someone else goes unemployed, so be it. If keeping your house means another family goes homeless, that’s something you’ll just have to face. It is, in a way, Darwin’s evolution in action. No one ever wrote a treatise on the survival of the nicest.

The sad fact of life on this planet is that not everyone will have what they want, and many will not have what they need. And to have anything at all, you will have to fight for it. We do not live in a global utopian society, and if you do not take it you will likely die waiting for it to be given to you.

That goes for liberty as much as for anything else. If you do not fight for your freedoms, you can hardly expect anyone to grace you with them out of the goodness of their heart. Governments, for instance, were not constructed out of goodness but out of fear and desire … even our own illustrious “city on a hill.” It’s nice to stand safely on the sidelines and speak of pacifism and conscientious objections, but in reality they don’t work. At some point, the theory breaks down. Even one man sitting alone in the middle of a garden will have to fight if he wants to eat, fight weeds and animals and drought and frost. Idealism has yet to feed a hungry belly.

I think Mencken’s words reveal that life is simply one fight after another, and if you want to do more than simply survive, you’ll have to do so at someone else’s expense. Is your life more important than someone else’s? Is someone else’s life more important than yours? How can anyone possibly know? So hoist your flag, brandish your sword and pistol, and let the blood run.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that he is prepared to honour his ‘promise

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that he is prepared to honour his ‘promise’ to return the British Grand Prix to Silverstone, claiming that he has offered the venerable airfield circuit a new deal following the apparent collapse of Donington Park’s bid to host the event.

Having confirmed that he would not be penalising Donington for its failure, Ecclestone disclosed that Silverstone – which has staged Britain’s round of the F1 world championship continuously since 1987 – had already been offered a similar 17-year deal to that which Donington was sitting on as it strove to secure the funds needed to revamp its facilities and underwrite a radical bond scheme.

“They’ve got to tidy the whole place up a bit, but I’m optimistic they will accept [the deal],” he told Britain’s Times newspaper.

The major impasse threatening the race, however, continues to be financial, with Silverstone and Ecclestone still at odds over the cost of the deal. British Racing Drivers’ Club president Damon Hill has admitted that he is not expecting any special favours in order to bring the British Grand Prix back to Silverstone, but warns that the British Grand Prix could be lost from the calendar if a resolution to the Donington Park furore is not found soon.

When Donington’s bid first appeared to hit the rocks in early summer, Ecclestone boldly claimed that the race would return to Silverstone in 2010, but has since appeared less certain that that would be the case without a satisfactory outcome to talks with the Northamptonshire circuit.

“I want a British Grand Prix, of course, but we are not going to do special rates for Britain,” he said, “If they tone] can’t make it work then don’t do it. If that happens, there won’t be a British Grand Prix – simple as that.”

With no firm decision taken on the future of the race as yet another deadline for Donington promoter Simon Gillett to find the £135m he needs to redevelop the Leicestershire circuit passed at midnight, Hill has called on Ecclestone to keep faith with Silverstone as a long-term host.

Speaking to the BBC’s Radio 5 Live, the 1996 F1 world champion admitted that Ecclestone had a difficult task balancing the history of the sport against the clamour from countries only just waking up to grand prix racing – but possessing deep pockets – when it came to forming the calendar, but insisted that, in his opinion, it was important to retain a British round on the schedule despite the problems the 2010 race appears to be facing.

“F1 can go anywhere in the world and get a huge amount of money,” Hill conceded, “That’s what Bernie’s wrestling with – but it’s not his job to give a discounted job to the UK.

“There’s a whole load of reasons why it should happen here but, ultimately, you are competing against countries which are able to inject public money into their infrastructure and into the contract of the grand prix – and that seems to be the stumbling block here.”

Britain is currently riding the crest of the F1 wave, with back-to-back world champions in Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, and the majority of the field still being based on UK soil, but Hill accepts that that may not be enough to keep the circus from returning to Silverstone should the Donington Park bid finally be written off.

“[Bernie Ecclestone] can get a value globally that is far in excess of what he can get for the UK,” the former Brabham, Williams, Arrows and Jordan driver accepted, “We can respect that it is a difficult position for him to be in, as he has to answer to his shareholders. But there are options on the table, there are discussions taking place and I’m hopeful something can be sorted out.”

Just a day after it seemed Donington Park’s hopes of hosting the British GP were dead in the w

Just a day after it seemed Donington Park’s hopes of hosting the British GP were dead in the water, it now appears that all is not lost after Simon Gillett managed to raise the necessary funds.

According to the Daily Express, Donington chief executive Gillett transferred the outstanding £12million they had to pay the Formula One management company before the deadline expired.

‘Gillett contacted [F1 supremo Bernie] Ecclestone in his London office to say that he had managed to raise the funds and that the transfer had taken place, but it may have been after the banks had closed,’ the paper claims.

‘Ecclestone, the commercial rights holder for F1 and who decides where races are staged, has been expecting the payment for weeks.

‘Ecclestone declined to comment, but Gillett has used almost every minute of his time in his efforts to meet Ecclestone’s deal.’

Donington launched a £135million bond scheme earlier this month in an attempt to raise funds to revamp the track. However, the plan never got off the ground as they withdrew it 10 days later.

The paper adds that it’s still unclear where Gillett received the money

‘Where investment has come from to allow him to transfer money is not known, but it will have to be absolutely certain to encourage Ecclestone to give him the go-ahead.’

Bernie Madoff, the man who masterminded the biggest-ever Ponzi Scheme, has swapped a cocaine snorting luxury life on the upper east side for one behind bars where his roomates are a mafia boss and a convicted spy.The insight into the 71-year-old’s new life comes in papers filed by Joseph Cotchett, a lawyer who is representing about a dozen of Madoff’s thousands of victims. He interviewed Madoff at the Butner federal prison near Raleigh, North Carolina, in July.

Madoff’s main leisure activity is taking walks around the prison’s running track at night. It alleges that Madoff employed a member of staff from 1975 to 2003 to acquire cocaine for his workplace, an office known by co-workers as “the North Pole”

Among his companions are Carmine Persico, the convicted boss of the Colombo crime family known in his professional life as “The Snake”, and Jonathan Pollard, jailed for life in 1987 for selling military secrets to Israel.
