As many of y’all know popular Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane was sentenced to 12 months for parole

As many of y’all know popular Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane was sentenced to 12 months for parole violation. It comes on the eve of his highly anticipated album being released. His arrest and him testing positive for drugs has left many wondering, how and why someone who has so much going for him and has apparently overcome alot would get caught up and be dragged back into the prison system.

Over the past few months Gucci Mane has emerged as an important voice for a generation as he’s been prominently featured on everything ranging from the BET Awards and in videos and songs with the Black Eyed Peas, Usher, 50 cent and Maria Carey to name a few. Its been reported that he’s been able to command 64k a show and has been able to get that 4 nights a week.

While Gucci Mane has been dealing with all this, whats been surfacing or resurfacing depending on how long you been follwing Gucci Mane is a video of him punching out a sister. From what I gather the tape popped up earlier this year and it shows an annoyed Gucci punching out his former rhyme partner and according to reports, former lover Mac Breezy who is featured on his debut album “Go Head”. Its pretty disturbing and later shows Mac Breezy trying to shrug it off like it was no big thing..

For some this will not come as a surprise because of Gucci’s persona and rough and rugged reputation, but for many others its new and raises alot of question including, how was this issue resolved and if it wasn’t what’s the justification for all the mainstream promotion? For example, BET gave Gucci lots of love during their recent Hip Hop Award show. He was featured in 4 performances. It was just a few months ago that came under fire when they featured Lil Wayne and Drake doing what many considered an inappropriate raunchy adult themed song while trotting young girls who looked like they were no older than 12 or 13 across the stage. BET back pedaled and removed the performance in later showings.

But after all the anger that was expressed, they gave prominent performance spots to Gucci Mane. How have outlets who have promoted and are riding hard for him reconciled this? Does it need to be reconciled?

I ask this because when Gucci Mane performed on the BET Awards, he was featured in a Public Service Announcement talking about how its wrong to do drugs… Perhaps he should’ve been doing one that says ‘It’s wrong to hit women’… maybe that might be the more appropriate response at a day and time where we had a gang rape of a 15-year-old girl while people stood around, watched, cheered took pictures and did not call authorities for 2 and half hours.

This comes at a time when just yesterday it was reported that a young Bay Area woman and her infant were killed by an ex boyfriend was just let out of jail for the murder of another child 15 years earlier..

This is not to say Gucci Mane doesn’t deserve second chances or people can’t redeem themselves etc, but when you see so many artists doing the hard work of addressing and trying to eradicate these pressing issues, can’t get any love whatsoever, not even a mention one many of these outlets, one has to wonder why the constant love and upliftment of folks who did wrong and in Gucci’s case since he violated parole and has been sentenced to a year in jail, continue to do wrong..

something to ponder

Although the rumour mills say that Matthew Knowles tried to get her banned from performing at this year’s BET Awards, LeToya has said that her and Beyonce are cool and she even sells House Of Dereon in her clothing store.

I always thought LeToya was nicer than wifey back in the day, that’s probably why they had to sit on different swings in ‘No No No Pt2′.

With the AMAs coming up within a few weeks, I decided to bring up the topic of music award shows. Doesn’t it seem like music awards show are just televised concerts these days? You have a slew of performers going every 5 minutes, and add in commercials every 10 minutes or so. Where is the coverage of the actual awards being handed out? Also there is a good chance that a majority of the awards have already been given out before the show started, which I think is an excuse for the producers to show what they really want to the audience. These days I’ve lost my appetite for watching award shows, due to the lack of focus on the actual awards. I remember when I would set aside time to watch the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and BET Awards. But like I’ve said before, the music industry is a business, so someone’s got to make money (think ratings). So I can’t blame them, but it’s still saddening to think about it.

Species Name: Shamelessicus Selfservius Since Michael Jackson’s death back in June, many tear

Species Name: Shamelessicus Selfservius

Since Michael Jackson’s death back in June, many tears have been shed for the fallen “King of Pop.” Unfortunately, instead of tears, the eyes of Michael’s brother’s and father have been filled with dollar signs as of late. After the family finally buried Michael, more than two months after his death, the remaining members of the Jackson 5 and the slap happy patriarch wasted little time cashing in on the death of their brother. Not only is a reunion tour in the works, as a “tribute” to Michael, but a documentary series about the family is set to premiere on A&E in December. Is nothing sacred? Even in death, this dysfunctional excuse for a family continues to mooch off their vastly superior brothers career. I especially love that Joe Jackson, the proud papa emerges out of obscurity immediately after his son dies to appear on every single talk show and instead of talking about how much he loved his son Michael, he proceeds to use the opportunities for plugs for his record label.

Wow. If anyone has any doubts why this scumbag was left out of his sons will, those doubts should be put to rest after watching that video. The saddest part of Michael’s death may be the fact that he was surrounded by leeches that wanted to steal his money at every chance they got. Michael Jackson was one of, if not the greatest performers the world will ever see and it’s simply horrifying that the other Jackson brothers and Joe are too concerned with their own self-serving agendas to realize that. Logically speaking, to imagine a world where Michael’s father didn’t exist would mean that Michael would never have existed either. However I’m confident that whoever’s sperm Michael would’ve been conceived from, he would’ve still managed to go on to take the world by storm.

In a world where Joe Jackson and the remaining Jackson 4 didn’t exist to ride their brothers coat tails:

Michael Jackson wouldn’t have grown up to be an 8 year old in a 49 year old’s body having not experienced the rampant abuse by his father throughout his childhood.

You’d think we’d be without such great songs as “I Want You Back” and “I’ll be there,” but little Michael would’ve been paired with some other black guys because let’s face it, Michael is what made those songs great. The other brothers are definitely interchangeable.

Micheal would never have potentially diddled those boys also if he hadn’t experienced the damaging abuse by his father throughout his childhood.

Jermaine would never have been able to launch his explosive solo career…wait he had a solo career?

Sadly, this album cover would never have come to fruition.

The Jackson 4 + Joe wouldn’t be able to capitalize on anything their brother was a part of, including the recent popularity of “This Is It,” which they recorded background vocals for because they wouldn’t miss an opportunity to mooch off their brother’s success.

Michael wouldn’t have to turn over in his grave when Joe Jackson eventually whores out Michael’s children by marketing them as the Prince and Princess of Pop.

Like Elvis Presley and Tupac Shakur before him, I think it’s safe to say that Michael Jackson will probably go on to make more money dead than he did alive. I pray to god that the only person who gets a crack at any of that money is those children and Michael’s mother, Katherine, in order to properly raise those children as Michael would’ve wanted. I fear that Joe Jackson is going to try his greedy claws on that money at every chance he can. Hell, he’s already in a court battle to try and gain some portion of Michael’s estate for “living expenses.” What a douche. And please, Jackson brothers, don’t go on that reunion tour. I hate to shatter your guys’ world, but nobody gives a flying fuck about you without MJ.

But one has to have dreams right?

Gimme your money or I will beat your corpse Michael!

Variety is reporting that Screen Gems is going to make a movie called Sheneneh and Wanda, which will have Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence reprise their most iconic gender bending roles.

Sheneneh was Martin’s annoying ghetto neighbor and Wanda (from In Living Color) and the dog faced Wanda who was looking love and to rock their world.

Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence put together a spoof trailer for a made up movie called Skank Robbers which starred both Sheneneh and Wanda. This was used as a skit for when Jamie Foxx hosted the 2009 BET Awards. The reaction of this trailer got a lot of laughs which got these two comedians to pursue making it into a real film.

Continue after the jump to see a clip of each Sheneneh and Wanda from their respective shows.

Is this another sign of the recession, or is this the side affects of Katts’ rumored bi-polar disorder? You know what happens to some folks when they stop taking their meds…

Comedian Katt Williams was arrested Sunday night in Atlanta on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing. According to police authorities, Williams allegedly broke into a house and attempted to steal jewelry and other items.

Williams, whose real name is Micah S. Katt Williams, is known for his roles in the movies “Friday After Next” and “Norbit.” His comedy DVD, “Katt Williams: Pimpadelic,” was no. 8 in the nation for sales during the week of Oct. 30, according to Nielsen/VideoScan.

It’s not the comedian’s first brush with the law. A year ago cops found 3 guns in his car after Williams was pulled over for driving without a license plate. A couple years before that he was busted trying to sneak a gun onto an airplane.

Again…it’s the meds fault, not Katt’s.

According to Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Major James Yarbrough, from a report he gave to the AP, a deputy at the Coweta County Jail confirmed Williams was being held there and that a magistrate was expected to set bond at an arraignment Monday afternoon.

Here is a quote directly from the AP report…

Yarbrough said the Sunday night incident happened at a home in Newman, about 38 miles southwest of Atlanta. Yarbrough said the unidentified homeowner called police around 9 p.m. to report the comedian “gained entry by breaking into the home, and items were taken from the residence.”

Yarbrough said police believe the entertainer was in Georgia working on a film.

I have a problem with Joe Jackson. No, I don’t personally know Joe Jackson, but in my opinion

I have a problem with Joe Jackson. No, I don’t personally know Joe Jackson, but in my opinion he is one of those fellas who you can smell the jerk oozing through his pours. I may be wrong, but I believe that having Joe Jackson as a father was a major contribution to Michael Jackson’s “issues”. I know that MJ fans hate to admit that Michael had some “issues”, but let’s face facts, he did.

I think these issues began way back in the day when Poppa Joe decided that his boys would form a group and make him some money. Joe Jackson claims that the movie The Jacksons was not a completely true picture of life in the Jackson home, but most people, myself included, believe that Joe was nothing to play with. He claims that he never beat his children and that as a matter of fact, Katherine, their mother spanked the children more than he did, since he was away from home a lot, working two jobs. I can believe that Katherine spanked….and I can definitely believe that Joe beat.

click here to watch Joe Jackson on Larry King Live.

Then there has been Joe’s heinous behavior since Michael Jackson passed away. At the BET Awards 2009 Joe was interviewed on the red carpet and he showed no compassion and honestly seemed as if he had no clue as to how the rest of his family was doing. Neither did he show much concern or signs of grief for losing a son. Not only did he seem detached from the happenings of the family, but Joe seemed to care more about his own “career.” While being interviewed by John Lemon of CNN Joe Jackson went on to give a shameless plug of his new record company and had his publicist to read a prepared statement.

It has also been said that Joe has approached Michael’s children in an attempt to have them form a music group and do some touring. Joe says this is a bunch of jive, but in my opinion showing no compassion for the death of your own son is more than a bunch of jive.

Video of Joe on the red carpet acting like a jive turkey.

Regardless of what Joe has to say, there is some underlying reason why his son would write him out of his will. There has to be some reason his wife of over fifty years lives in one home and he lives in another. There definitely is a problem and I think that problem is Joe Jackson!

I’m not sure how many people BET expected to tune into this year’s award show, but they were certainly lookin to make bloggers’ heads turn with their three-part “Cyphers” interludes. Considering that BET’s been almost unwatchable since Big Tyga left “Rap City’s Tha Basement” earlier this decade (there’s not a lot of room for credibility when you’re the poor man’s MTV), it’s great to see them extend an olive branch to some people who really deserve it. Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Ne-Yo, and M.I.A. were the “big winners” of the night, but DJ Premier, Mos Def, Black Thought, Eminem, Buckshot, Nipsey Hussle, and Joe Budden actually made the ceremony remarkable.

Granted, I didn’t actually watch the award show (the NBA started tonight; whoever planned that one over at BET should be shot), but this will go down in the memory banks as the one that featured Mos Def, Black Thought, and Eminem going verse for verse. When the Hip Hop nerds have heated arguments in their dorm rooms tomorrow over who came the hardest (pause), I would put my money on the exit polls favoring Slim. Thought, with all his talk of being underrated and unappreciated (he is in Hip Hop and of the three), stole Cypher #3, but if we’re going to be real, Joe Budden ran away with it, overall. Peep the other two Cyphers after the break and tell us who you think spit it best.

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

— Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

DETROIT — It has been just over a month since I last checked in with you guys in the bloggosphere. For that, I sincerely apologize. But now that I’m back, I’m here to put a foot up the ass of someone who has been dodging it for a long time. That man is Tyler Perry. I know what you’re probably thinking: “But Jay, his movies are so touching and uplifting and they have a really valid, positive message that everyone can relate to.” The problem is, while that may be true, I can never seem to get to the proverbial “knowing is half the battle” moment in any of his televised/motion picture fecal matter because I’m too busy being assailed and bombarded by just about every modern negative black stereotype you can think of, with the ringmaster of this circus loudly prancing around like a taller, lighter, slightly younger version of Flavor Flav wearing your Grandmother’s Dress and a wig instead of a Viking helmet and a clock.

I just turned 30 last month. Turning the clock back 20 years to 1989, I was 10 years old and was growing more and more intrigued by this music called Hip-Hop. You see, back then, Rappers used to have these things called lyrics. Often those lyrics were integrated into Black Cinema much in the same way Curtis Mayfield and Issac Hayes were an integral part to 1970s Blaxploitation. The 1980s and 1990s answer to the over the top classic movies such as Shaft, Superfly, The Mack, Truck Turner, Foxy Brown, etc. came from people like the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society), John Singleton (Boyz N Tha Hood), and a groundbreaking cat from Brooklyn named Spike Lee. The first Spike Lee movie that I recall seeing was Do The Right Thing. The message in his movies was like good old fashioned blunt-force trauma to the head. It very unabashedly told of the struggle of Blacks in the United States in what was much more modern day language. Spike’s creativity carried over into the legendary film Malcolm X.

Say what you will about some of the subject matter of his films, the messages, the treatment of women, etc., the man is a legitimate ground breaker. So when Spike decided to shoot (Pro Wrestling Lingo Alert!) on Tyler Perry during an interview back in May, you could kind of understand why he may not exactly have been a fan of “Madea”. Quoting Spike’s interview with former BET reporter Ed Gordon:

“We’ve had this discussion back and forth. When John Singleton [made 'Boyz in the Hood'], people came out to see it. But when he did ‘Rosewood,’ nobody showed up. So a lot of this is on us! You vote with your pocketbook, your wallet. You vote with your time sitting in front of the idiot box, and [Tyler Perry] has a huge audience.

Ok, so for now, it seems like everything is sunny and rosey, until Spike started to be Spike:

“We shouldn’t think that Tyler Perry is going to make the same film that I am going to make, or that John Singleton or my cousin Malcolm Lee [would make]. As African-Americans, we’re not one monolithic group, so there is room for all of that. But at the same time, for me, the imaging is troubling and it harkens back to ‘Amos n’ Andy.’”

Let’s pause the tape right there. The operative line in that quote is that we as blacks are “not one monolithic group”. That is apparently news to many Black people because, for one, 85% of blacks have no idea what “monolithic” means, and secondly, Black people tend to think that we need to be in total lock step with each other. We’re to NEVER publicly disagree about anything or dare criticize our own in public, for fear of what message it sends to the “White Man”. Chuckle all you want, but that’s what has actually been said to me about why Spike Lee had no business cracking Tyler Perry. We continue with the true money shot of this interview:

“…I am a huge basketball fan, and when I watch the games on TNT, I see these two ads for these two shows (Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne”), and I am scratching my head. We got a black president, and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?”

That was an epic shot because he managed to pub the NBA on TNT, reference characters from one of the most shameful periods of Black American Cinema, and reference a movie that he previously made about the subject matter. If you couldn’t tell, I’m no fan of Tyler Perry. Not his crappy and overly preachy stage plays. Not his one-dimensional, coonish movies. Not his overly corny, and stereotypical TV shows (I’ve watched all of three minutes of House of Payne before becoming nauseous). His lame response to this whole thing of “Madea” being based on people he grew up with and the sheep who love his movies demanding that Spike do everything from say nothing to congratulate him to “not saying his name” just continues to annoy me.

Like I said earlier, you can sell me the BS that all of his movies have this great and lovely message, but if all I’m drawing from it is that there is some Black Woman invariably done wrong by one black man, Madea jumps in midway through and does her “comedy” Bojangles routine, Another black man (usually of the opposite complexion) rides to her rescue, more Madea nonsense, Game Over, and the women have something to talk about while they get their hair done…then there’s a distinct failure to communicate here. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I have seen one Tyler Perry movie from beginning to end: Why Did I Get Married? Not coincidentally, it was one of the three Tyler Perry movies that doesn’t feature Madea the Dancing Coon. The movie itself was actually pretty good. It got off a strong message that black couples go through the same issues as all couples, and was startlingly realistic (albeit the acting left something to be desired). The thing is that particular flick got the point across w/out having to bring Madea out waving a pistol and smoking a square. And it didn’t do nearly as well as the others. You see where I’m going.

The reason why Spike Lee was not out of bounds with what he said is simple. In the early 1990s, He drew heat for addressing what the mainstream American public saw as controversial. That would be Race relations…something that we’re still a bunch of pussies about dealing with mind you. Spike’s movies, especially early on, were troublesome. Conversely, Tyler Perry is safe. Tyler Perry’s movies are never going to cause any real mainstream controversy. They really aren’t going to make you think. He refers to Madea as “Bait” to draw in viewers to his “positive message”. And yes, there are many people who can stomach the wacky hi-jinx and hilarity of Madea, so the bait can nab you the fish. But at a certain point, the fish can snatch the bait, and escape off the proverbial hook and swim along to something else and then what are you left with? It’s bad enough that people of all races have preconceived notions about what black life is like. And some sugary sweet, yet horribly mediocre movie with a latent, clandestine message isn’t gonna change what many of those people think of us.

But as Spike said, we as blacks are not one monolithic group of people. Therefore, we don’t all have the same tastes, nor do we always stand in lockstep with each other on everything, in spite of the numerous people thinking that we have to do so to preserve some face of “Unity” and in essence, look good in front of the white man. To that, I call BS and say “F–k Unity”. This isn’t 1836, and we’re no longer on the plantation. I don’t care if “other races” see us bickering and arguing over something philosophical. It’s good to disagree. And once again just because a Black person wrote, starred, directed, created, sang, rapped, or danced in it doesn’t mean I have to admire, support, like, or appreciate it or them. And just because he makes money off of it doesn’t mean I have to show him/her love and respect it. Fox News gets higher ratings on average than CNN. That doesn’t make what they say legit, that just means a lot of hillbillies have cable.

In closing, Tyler Perry is free to make all the movies, TV shows, and stage plays he wants. That’s his right as an American. It’s my right as an American to choose to watch something else, and to have a problem with the characterizations in his films, shows and plays. Stereotyping is prevalent in everything. That’s never gonna change unless we stop being cowards and start staring it dead in the face. The day we start doing that, and stop worrying about what the “white man” will think, is the day we can have two influential people have a disagreement and it ends in some form of civility and doesn’t disintegrate into some juvenile, girly bed of BS where everyone gets called “haters” and “jealous”. As Common once said: “If I Don’t Feel It, Then I Don’t Feel It. Doesn’t Mean That I’m Hatin’”. Spike Lee, Thank you for speaking up for us. Tyler Perry, get your money and all that, but how about you try to fish w/some better “bait” and you would be amazed how many more fish you can catch.

Until Next Time, That’s The Way It Is, Monday October 26, 2009. The 28th day since the Detroit Lions’ last Victory. Take Care, God Bless, Always Dare to Be Different, and G.O.M.A.B. Σ

Beyonce is a cautious lady, and I can not blame her. The saucy sexy singer had to cancel a scheduled performance in Malaysia due to raging conservative Islamic protest.

The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party recently expressed concerns that the singer’s appearance would promote “western sexy performances”, and had vowed to disrupt her concert performance there. The the Islamic critics were said to be upset over Beyonce’s choice of sexy stage outfits and dance routines.

Foreign acts often draw protests by the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), whose youth wing forced Beyonce to cancel her 2007 concert in the mainly Muslim nation of 27 million people.

Malaysian entertainment company Marctensia said in a statement on its website that the Beyonce “I am…” concert, planned for October 25 as part of her world tour, would be postponed to a date yet to be announced.

“The postponement is solely (the) decision of the artist and has nothing to do with other external reasons,” the concert organizers said in the statement.

No further reason was given. Marctensia said a new date for the concert would be announced “shortly” and a statement from Beyonce’s management would be released later this week.

She’s been taking her “Sasha Fierce” flavor all over the world, but apparently that is not welcome in this conservative dominated Islamic country.

She is always welcome around here….so, Beyonce, if you are listening, we like all those sexy, scintillating things that you wear , do, and sing, so if Malaysia does not want you, just know that we do.

I think it would be immoral if she did not dress, dance, and sing like…Sasha Fierce!!! Don’t get blown up!!!

TMZ.com is reporting that Sickle Cell Anemia may have played a significant role in the death of Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, the ex-fiancé of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burress.

Fulton County Associate Medical Examiner Dr. Kelly Rose tells TMZ preliminary autopsy results led her to believe that A.J., who died two weeks ago after a strip club brawl, suffered from the life long blood disorder that inhibits oxygen flow to tissues in the body.

Police say Ashley ”was involved in an altercation in the parking lot and he received a severe blow to the head,” Police Lt. Keith Meadows told the Atlanta TV station WBSTV. Immediately following the fight, Ashley was taking to a hospital where he later died.

Sickle cell anemia is a disease passed down through families in which red blood cells form an abnormal crescent shape. (Red blood cells are normally shaped like a disc.). Sickle-cell disease may lead to various acute and chronic complications, several of which are potentially lethal.

Atlanta native and singing superstar T-Boz of TLC, famously also suffers from sickle cel anemia, which has affected her career for years.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sickle-cell_disease

Burress is still morning AJ’s death, but according to Bravo – it will not interfere with the taping or airing of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta ” reunion special scheduled to air in two parts starting at the end of October.
