Tried my hand at court-reporting today – for the first time.

It does seem strange that these days someone can have been a journalist for a number of years and yet never have set foot inside a courtroom with the intention of covering the goings on – but I guess that’s where we’re at.

I’d like to say I went out of some firmly-held belief at the importance of relaying the machinations of our democratic system to the general public – but I had to cover a specific case – Betfair vs Racing NSW.

And it’s funny – you can learn all the social media strategies you like, get bogged down in high-quality compression techniques for video and sound, learn to light and frame an interviewee perfectly – but man, without shorthand, court reporting is something else.

The journo next to me was obviously an old (short) hand at the task, while I struggled to keep up. I could barely read my own writing when I got home.

No more technology. Too many strings on that bow. I need some shorthand, a cigar, some braces, a trilby and a big fuck-off cigar. Oh, and a camera with a flash that goes ‘poof’.

Chicken pie, peas & gravy £4.00 at Aintree yesterday, but it helped soak up a few pints I must admit. Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend-just a shame we weren’t blessed with more runners at both Haydock & Aintree. Today my liver is recovering whilst watching a spot of ATR action.

Ace King, also called Big Slick or Anna Kournikova, is one of the most overrated hands in the history of no limit holdem. It’s exactly as the pityful sidename Anna Kournikova refers too: She looks good but doesn’t win alot. Playing Ace King is very hard. How in hells name do you play this hand? How in gods name can you make sure you always win Ace King?

AK ?! When you get it in a cash game or tournament of whatever it is you are playing, you get a little bit of goosebumps. Serious research has pointed out that most people go broke or die at a tournament because ofoverplaying Ace King, especially Ace King suited.

Before we go further with the analysis of AK, please hold in mind that not only with Ace King, but with all suited cards, against unsuited cards the increased winning percentage that comes with suited cards is only a percent!

Ok, so if most people loose more than they win with Ace King, and loose at especially crucial times, then what is it that they are doing wrong playing AK? First of all we are going to take a look at the potential of AK, after that we will follow up with how Ace King, in conclusion, actually should be played and how it should not be played.

AK is the best drawing hand. AK can beat EVERY HAND, it is only a big underdog against AA and KK.

The rest of the hands is either just as strong or slighty stronger or a lot worse than AK. Hence you would say, AK is one of the best hands. This is, mathmatically said, true. But it is one of the most complicated and tricky hands too. AK is no

favourite against 22. 33 is. But then again, it is not much more of an underdog against QQ, one of the strongest hand in NL Holdem.

Ace King should be played with caution, but also with aggression. Being aggressive in poker is a good overall strategy anyhow, but especially when you hold AK. I layed the draw at HT for £50 @ 2.68, I did,nt post the match in a preview post because I  just happened to look at the stats for Portugal U21 team at half time and decided to have a punt. I’m so glad I rarely punt now on a Monday. Did you see the number of short priced favourites that won lowly races? As a layer it would have been carnage for me if I’d ventured out into that arena. Still, I wasn’t saved my blushes as my only advice-Co Stompe lost 5-4 in a thrilling darts match.

Today, I’ve been looking at the Fakenham card and touch wood (*gets splinters in fingers*) I’ve not been doing too bad at this fixture recently.

Alas, no racing punts for me today. However, I’m quite enjoying the razzmatazz of the Grand Slam of Darts and I’ve spotted a tie which I hope will be one way traffic.

Det var nära härom dagen att Betfair skulle debitera mig för att jag överutnyttjat deras kapacitet. Jag tänkte inte att så kunde bli fallet, men om man har ett par applikationer öppna som tillsammans gör fler än 20 API-förfrågningar per sekund till Betfair, så har de rätt att debitera överutnyttjandet.

I mitt fall uppstod det när jag hade BettingAssistant och SoccerMystic igång samtidigt. Möjligen skulle detta kunna inträffa om man har två fönster av samma applikation igång samtidigt. Om man behöver ha två stycken igång samtidigt så ska det finnas inställningar som gör att man kan begränsa till t ex 10 API-förfrågningar och därmed klara sig.

Någon i läsekretsen med större IT-kunnande än mig som kan tillföra information i frågan?
