Hey,

So, you wanted to know more about Betty? Go ahead, here’s everything you need to know!

Who is Betty?

Betty is a young girl who lost her parents in a terrible fire. She was adopted by a kind Circus Ringmaster, which was good, cause she loves noisy places. She’s vigorous with an excellent sense of balance and well-executed skill.

Starting Out

Betty starts out with one point on INT and 2 points on AGI. Her harness pants and Pink Shoes add 2 DEF points.

Attribute & Skill

In addition to her pants and shoes, she’s got an interesting skill, namely Leap, with which she leaps up and over to get behind the target. This usually brings about a quick defeat.
There are three attribute elements that would be perfect for her: Wind, Water and Fire. You’ll have to see for yourself what your favorite attribute element will be for her.

Have fun with Betty!

So, yeah, I acted like a dick (pun intended) and who am I bullshitting? She was my type and it sucked being brushed off. Anyway, the city of Ottawa is really small so, I figured our paths would cross again sometime soon. My attitude during the evening had been unacceptable and I promised myself that, the next time we will meet, I would apologize.

As expected, I saw the girl at a party. She was sitting near the bar with a friend. I hesitated before going to talk to her. I wanted to buy her a drink, but I did not have enough money. I had a $ 20 note: this was not enough to pay three drinks (one for her, one for me and one for her girlfriend…). Note to all ladies: it’s all fine and dandy to hang out with your friends at a club, but you become unapproachable when you’re surrounded by your posse!

In spite of my financial woes, I took a deep breath and went in for the kill.
- You are not dancing today, I asked.

- No, I’m tired. In addition, the music is not good, she said with a smile, recognizing me. She turned on her stool to face me properly. Damn, she looked good and, hell yeah, I was on top of my game, as usual!

(Her friend must have caught on to the vibes: my game was tight, her friend was safe with me and she was quite obviously the 3rd wheel in this club; she promptly disappeared for most of the night. Cudos to all women who do not cock-block!)

- By the way, my name is Pascal-Olivier
- I know. I’m Betty.

Editor’s Note: At the time, I was quite popular in the city of Ottawa. Girls nicknamed me The French Boy, because of my accent.

In my opinion, there is nothing more horrible than hearing a French guy speaking English with a heavy accent. All my life, I tried to get rid of that damn accent. I wanted to sound like Nas, the New York rapper. Unfortunately, all my efforts were in vain: I could not pronounce words like Americans and it was frustrating.

I had no idea that my accent was my charm. Apparently, the girls thought it was “exotic.” Often, the Lord gives us blessings and we, poor fools, try to get rid of them.

That night, Betty and I exchanged phone numbers. I realized she was not only a sexy kitten but also a very intelligent girl. We didn’t dance at all, too busy talking to each other, telling stories and jokes, laughing, in spite of the loud music.

Amazing, ain’t it? We were both in the night club and instead of dancing, we were talking. She told me about her life. She was studying medicine, her dream was to become a pediatrician. I wasn’t saying much, except for the occasional smooth line and joke. I was just listening, looking at her with admiring eyes: there’s nothing sexier than a smart woman. Note to all women: if you have nothing between your ears, you will be nothing but a sex object for men.
Corny as it may sound, that evening, instead of having a woman over in bed, I got a friend in my life. The next day, I was so impatient to see her again. I took my phone and I called:
- What are you doing tomorrow night? We can go see a movie, I suggested.
- Excellent idea! It will do me good, I’m a little stressed out right now because of the exams, she said.

Now, here’s the truth: usually, when I invite a chick to the movies, it’s not because I am dying to see the film. For me, the cinema is an ambush. It is where I devour my prey. In the darkness, one sees my real nature. As soon as the daylight disappears, I transform into a werewolf. Without realizing it, the poor girl had fallen into my trap. MOUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Hmmmm, I’m having a rather bad day, well week. Nothing specifically bad has happened, just feeling stressed about life in general.

I go through phrases where working for myself is the best thing every, then I have days like today where I would rather be back at horrid Otto or any of my previous jobs than here by myself. I think half of it is just that – the being by myself thing. No one else to blame or even reassure yourself that someone else will do something if I’m crap and don’t do it. I think it’s the overwhelming responsibility on Betty which sometimes gets to me and unfortunately, that sometimes is this week.

On the positive, I can pay the mortgage and even afford some Christmas presents plus I’ve got a fabulous weekend ahead (I may be turning 31 on Sunday) full of family, wine and curry. Now if that doesn’t snap me out of anything, I don’t know what will ;0)

Stephen Rudderham sent me this cool 7″ 45 RPM via Royal Mail from across the Pond. The Sun never sets on The British Empire. He knew it was my Birthday & 45 singles make a great surprise. It’s The Gift That Keeps Giving

The Disk is A release from the band “Betty & The Werewolves” & the Single call is “David Cassidy” released on Damaged Goods Records. I assume the song title refers to the well known Actor from the Partridge Family t.v show & musician David Cassidy

The vinyl 7″ 45RPM record Jacket has A cool picture of a womans face being assembled by many hands like A Jig Saw puzzle. It’s an Adobe Photoshop magic FX i am sure ( i studied under COX)

WOW! The vinyl itself is great. Thick high quality Purple Wax with embedded Glitter; A collectors edition (rhetorical askmark). I played the 7″ 45 on my Sony Turntable hooked up to the Aux of my Panasonic Stereo System. Wot A great indie pop sound. I played it actually 7 Times sraight

Betty & The Werewolves have Dunn great Jobs on this record. It’s Female fronted vocals, poppy Fender Guitar Rifts, Jay Z Bass & Pearl Jams on drums Mould & Fuse together well. It’s Fresh & Easy 2 listen 2 and brings back great memories of the indie pop Daze like Blondie, or perhaps A Ladyman fronted “The Wedding Present”. That’s Weird. Anyhow, this 7″ 45RPM makes a great addition to my record growing collection.

The only downside to this record is it’s lack of Download Coupons (A Mobility Enabler) & it’s Ill titled B-Side. It’s still Great though & A Best Buy 4 All

yo so betty! Desktop 1455P ”while watching tv” so, here i am again. how am i? what’s the improvement

yo so betty!

Desktop 1455P ”while watching tv”

so, here i am again. how am i? what’s the improvement?

am i okay na? hehehe…well i think some time of the day, the answer is YES or NO. anyhow, i’d like to share how i was touched by what BETTY LA FEA (philippine version) had said: “itong pangit na’to, marunong magmahal..na itong pangit na’to marunoing din masaktan….”’ isn’t it nice?

she was right, so right that even the ugliest human or even the saddist has feelings too. They are creature by God with heart and generates emotions too. they are not numb. *burp-im full! I can’t barely understand why there are still these people who overjudge others and worst, they even tend to ACT unlikely towards others. i hate those kind of persons. That no matter how i try to ignore them and understand them, i still end up hating them(sorry).

remember the tallest guy in the world? robert is his name i think, i forgot his family name, he was a great good kind-hearted man. He was called a freak but he never was, and will never be. i love extraodinary people who acts ordinarily but his or her impact to others is definitely unforgettable-just like Robert, Betty, the beast, and the like.

oh!i remembered about how to relate this writing to my life. hmm, i had talk to someone yesterday and i have shared once again my favorite part of my childhood.

i was grade two then when i had the chance to experience living like the real esssence of being a kid-well that’s what i think. me and my mom had a little place in white gold terminal, that was a great experience for me and i want to thank my mom for making me a little kid that was able to undergo something unusual. i was once a seller of variety of candies, cigarettes and ice water, you know, the typical street seller. you get me? i was one of those who cater those who just step down from the jeepney or bus to sell my goods. and not to mention my age-8years old. It was something i have never been ashamed of, i have always been PROUD of that experience.

that was fun! and i am looking forward to meet someone that had same experience too. that would be great, right?

oppp! gtg dude..we’ve got visitors..i gotta entertain them! ciao bhaby!

So, my dear friend Jean and I, at a lovely dinner at the Olive Garden, while slurping up yummy parme

So, my dear friend Jean and I, at a lovely dinner at the Olive Garden, while slurping up yummy parmesan noodles and finishing off dinner with a super deluxe decadant chocolate mousse cake, started talking about the season finale of Mad Men. And of course, when you’re talking about Mad Men, a huge focal point of the conversation is always gonna be, who sucks worse? Don or Betty?

don likes to tap a lot of different ass

princess for life!!!!

At first I was actually defending her, and I feel that as a woman perhaps, ignoring the extreme hotness of Don and how we wish we were Betty just so we could get him in bed, we all sympathize, some of us even empathize with her situation. We think, God, I feel so sorry for her, I wouldn’t want to be in her shoes. I mean, here she is, stuck with three kids, and when she actually has the guts to confront Don about his infidelity, she finds out she is pregnant and has to stay with him. And Don isn’t just having one affair, he is sleeping with women ALL over New York. And yes, I am aware that Betty committed adultery also, but not until she found out who Don was, and in any sense, her one indiscretion does not compare to Don’s likely hundreds.

But then I suppose the question is, is Betty really trapped in an unhappy marriage? Or was it her choice? Does her denial of Don’s numerous betrayals make her less sympathetic? Or more precisely, did Betty only become “unhappy” in her relationship when Don’s infidelity became apparent to others?

I myself, usually have a bias against women in denial. Most likely because I have been the other woman. (Sorry it is kind of fun. Oooops?) Also, if there are signs of infidelity, it could even be catching my boyfriend in a lie, I’m out. People say that ignorance is bliss, but the idea of being in a relationship, knowing that my lover is cheating on me (yet demanding that I stay faithful and I remain so), and that everyone is laughing at me behind my back is something that I cannot stomach. I have weird philosophies about relationships, but I feel like, if you are gonna be in a marriage, and you wanna fuck around, at least let your partner fuck around too, otherwise it is just selfish. So yeah the fact the Betty didn’t do anything about Don’s numerous affairs made me dislike her. And a woman knows when she’s being cheated on when she’s being cheated on the way Don cheated on her. Beside the obvious signs, not coming home, weird phone calls, inaccurate stories, there is the different sex style which Betty describes to her therapist as an indication of infidelity.

And I am sure a lot of you are thinking, well actually, she did confront Don about his adultery. However, let’s analyze the events surrounding that situation. Betty’s neighbor’s husband had an affair and Betty’s first reaction was to tell her friend not to say anything about it. In turn this was her philosophy about her marriage. We see her having anxiety attacks in the beginning of the first season, and we all attributed these attacks as a reaction to Don’s absence. But when I think about the instance in which she did confront him about his affair, it seems she did so for all the wrong reasons.

In “The Comedian” When Betty finally confronts Don, it is instigated by Jimmy Barrett. He tells her that Don and his wife have been having sex. And she knows that it is true. She probably knew it was true for a long time. But instead of asking him, what are you talking about, how do you know this, how long has this been going on, are you serious? She tells him to stop talking about it and to go away. And it is really interesting if we parallel this to when Sterling tells Don about Betty and Henry’s relationship/affair. Even though it is a masculine reaction, Don is at least inquisitive about the details of the affair and if it was based on fact. Betty seems more concerned with the fact that someone knows about it, and may shatter the image of her picture-perfect marriage. And the worst insult to Betty was that the gossip came from a comedian. Nobody likes to be laughed at, but Betty really doesn’t like it. Recall when she got pissed off at Don for not telling her that at the dinner party he predicted she would buy Heineken.

I feel as if she is more preoccupied with the exposure of her flawed image to others. This is ironic for two reasons. 1. She used to be a model, which is a business built on making things prettier than they seem, as it is in advertising. 2. The fear of her flawed image being visible to others is why she is unsympathetic to Don’s painful life story.

When you see an alpha-male like Don cry, you pay attention. I have only seen my father cry three times in my life, and they were at funerals. And likewise, this was Don’s time to mourn. It was the first time he could really be himself, reclaim his own name, mourn his brother who committed suicide, and really mourn the death of his former self. And Betty….well….. Betty listened to the story but she didn’t really care. I mean, she gave him the “there there” pat. As Jean pointed out during dessert — that chocolate really got us going “Betty left Don because he no longer was the picture perfect, upper class man who came from old money that she thought she married.” – Jean/Ledefile

wait, come again, you used to be...POOR???!!!! ICK!!!!!

Don- “I gave you everything you wanted – EVERYTHING! And you loved it! And now I’m not good enough for some spoiled main line brat?!”

Betty- “That’s RIGHT!”

It is also interesting to note that when she broke into Don’s hidden box and found out he was married, she was more concerned with the deed than the divorce. Most women would be wondering are my children illegitimate, and Betty is jealous that Don bought his ex-wife a house and she didn’t have one of her own yet. She also asks her lawyer if what Don did, (taking on a different identity) is “something he could go to jail for.” Of course she doesn’t want to be associated with that. She ain’t gonna be visiting Don in prison. But I was even thinking, it really is a good thing that Don decided not to fight her, cuz I bet she would have blackmailed him with that information, the same way Pete did, if she didn’t have her “life raft,” aka Henry.

But then again Betty is the trophy wife. She is beautiful, and a nice person, but also self-centered and uninteresting. She doesn’t have very many complex thoughts. And in analyzing the women Don had affairs with, it seems he was using them to fill Betty’s non-stimulating void. The Jewess, Rachel Menkin was loyal, exotic, a feminist, and a true business woman. Midge was not very attractive but had a passion for music, culture art, and drugs and gave Don an escape from his monotonous life. The comedian’s wife Bobbie Barrett was overtly masculine and business-savvy. And although the scene near the restaurant bathroom could be interpreted in many ways, he may have penetrated her in the restaurant (when he put his hand up her dress) to establish himself as the more dominant male/the Phallus. Bobbie stops demanding extra money for her husband’s apology after that. The schoolteacher was very philosophical and her job itself demands the ability to be selfless, caring, and giving to children. Betty had none of the qualities these women possessed. I mean how many times, are we gonna have to hear Betty say, “GO PLAY IN YOUR ROOM” to her children? And her apathy toward her daughter mourning the grandfather? Atrocious. And clearly, Sally loves her father more.

So what else should Don expect? He married her for image alone, so why should he be so pissed when she wants to leave him when he presented a false image to her, and not just his identity, but the adultery as well. He doesn’t even stop after she catches him.

Well, I feel as if some characters can be redeemed if they have the ability to grow and change. And in their situation, I feel that they had already established love as possession because Betty was the trophy wife, and Betty by virtue of marriage possessed Don’s material assets. Clearly they have experienced love as an illusion as I have described in the aforementioned reasons. Yet, love between Don and Betty could not exist outside of illusion. When Don and Betty got into fights, usually to end the fight, instead of addressing the problem at hand Don would ask, “What do you want me to say?” This clearly shows that Don is aware that Betty doesn’t really want the truth, she wants his words to be a reflection of what she innately wants. However, I feel as if Don was ready to take the next step in exposing his true character, and Betty even commented on the fact that “he wouldn’t have left the box in the house unless he wanted her to find it.” Clearly, Betty is the one who is incapable of loving a person who is not a projected reflection of hew own desires. And in sum, this is why she runs into the arms of a politician, a man whose profession yet again revolves around misrepresentation.

So….I still think Betty sucks. I mean she has children, a newborn, and we see her leaving her two kids behind and flying off to Reno with a man she hardly knows. She would rather ditch the people she loves than be associated with a scandal. Not only is this exemplified by her leaving Don, but when one of her married friends admits to her that she slept with the engaged horseback rider, Betty dismisses her good friend from her life. She shows that she is oblivious to the plight of others when she says “it really isn’t the right time for Civil Rights” in front of her hardworking black maid. And the entire first season focuses on her being self-indulgent in the therapist’s office. And I am in no way saying therapy is self-indulgent, some people need it, but the way in which those specific scenes are shot, Betty lying on a chaise, not talking about anything important when she knows what the problem is (the affair) while wasting Don’s money on psychiatric help that she doesn’t need. The visits stopped after the first season. I mean it’s just sickening. So, yeah, Betty sucks.

Thoughts?

you know you want it...

P.S. I am really excited for Season 2. Jean and I were discussing the fabulousness of the possible Don-Joan-Sterling triangle. And while the love triangle might be a cliche move…it would be HOT! Tension between Don and Sterling, Joan and Don, Joan and Sterling, Joan and her fiance, Sterling and his new wife. It would be a lot more nuanced than the tired, using a woman as an outlet for male aggression. I mean you know something is gonna happen in that tiny ass hotel room! Fingers crossed.

Anyone who’s ever spoken to me for more than a couple minutes is privy to my deep and abiding

Anyone who’s ever spoken to me for more than a couple minutes is privy to my deep and abiding love of Titanic. Similarly, Future Mr. Bettytron, a man of unparalleled taste and refinement, reserves his deepest affection for the film Aliens. Thus, James Cameron’s new film has been the subject of much interest and debate in our household.

Great filmmaker, or GREATEST filmmaker?

I’ll get this out of the way right now- I think it looks terrible. Not like, A-Brilliant-Director-Made-A-Slight-Misstep kind of bad, or even Well-I’d-Watch-It-If-It-Was-On-TV-On-A-Sunday-Afternoon bad, but eye-bleedingly, brain-searingly, stupid-makingly awful. First, and I have to get this off my chest, the title font is Papyrus. Fucking Papyrus!! The font the quirky health food store run by a 70 year old woman down the street uses on their sign! The fifth-grade report about Egypt title page font!

50% off all protein shakes!

“All right, Betty,” you may be saying now. “Sure, he’s no typographical titan, but surely the film itself will not suffer from similar shoddy design!” A-ha! This is where you are mistaken. Sure, the CGI humans look pretty realistic, except for the moment you’ll experience every four seconds when you wonder why everyone suddenly looks like a video game character. No, my problem is that the fantasy-magical-FernGully world looks like something a 12 year old drew in the back of his math notebook. Actually, it looks like the front of a notebook I owned when I was only 7. That’s right. Lisa Frank.

Goddamn Lisa Frank.

There’s a shot in the trailer of the sexy blue dreadlocked girl and the blue obvious-James-Cameron-stand-in gazing at one another under a waterfall that evokes nothing so much as a poster that ought to be adorning a pre-adolescent girl’s bedroom wall. One thing it does NOT resemble is the latest, most groundbreaking blockbuster from the guy who brought us Terminator.

Now, I love trainwrecks. I love terrible movies beyond reason, and I normally enjoy James Cameron’s brand of big, entertaining, slightly dim fun. The reason I don’t think I can stomach going to see Avatar ever, not even if you buy my ticket and bribe me with cheesecake ice cream is this absurd interview with Playboy, where he explains his real priorities as a filmmaker:

PLAYBOY: We seem to need fantasy icons like Lara Croft and Wonder Woman, despite knowing they mess with our heads.
CAMERON: Most of men’s problems with women probably have to do with realizing women are real and most of them don’t look or act like Vampirella. A big recalibration happens when we’re forced to deal with real women, and there’s a certain geek population that would much rather deal with fantasy women than real women. Let’s face it: Real women are complicated. You can try your whole life and not understand them.

Maybe, and forgive me if I am being presumptious, but maybe the issue is that you’re trying to understand women as a whole, in one grand sweep, rather than realizing that individuals are going to have different ideas about things? Perhaps? Maybe this gender-related blindspot is the reason you’ve been married five goddamn times?

PLAYBOY: How much did you get into calibrating your movie heroine’s hotness?
CAMERON: Right from the beginning I said, “She’s got to have tits,” even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na’vi, aren’t placental mammals. I designed her costumes based on a taparrabo, a loincloth thing worn by Mayan Indians. We go to another planet in this movie, so it would be stupid if she ran around in a Brazilian thong or a fur bikini like Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C.

Yeah. That WOULD be stupid.

Very well researched.

PLAYBOY: Are her breasts on view?
CAMERON: I came up with this free-floating, lion’s-mane-like array of feathers, and we strategically lit and angled shots to not draw attention to her breasts, but they’re right there. The animation uses a physics-based sim that takes into consideration gravity, air movement and the momentum of her hair, her top. We had a shot in which Neytiri falls into a specific position, and because she is lit by orange firelight, it lights up the nipples. That was good, except we’re going for a PG-13 rating, so we wound up having to fix it. We’ll have to put it on the special edition DVD; it will be a collector’s item. A Neytiri Playboy Centerfold would have been a good idea.

I never before knew how little interest I had in hearing James Cameron ruminate on CGI nipples.

PLAYBOY: So you’re okay with arousing PG-13 chubbies?
CAMERON: If such a thing should happen—and I’m not saying it will—that would be fine.

GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS AGH GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF

Ugh. I recognize that some blame lay with Playboy for their predictably creepy questions, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to shake that image. And THAT is why I won’t be going to see Avatar. Except, hey, you know, 3D!!

This is the second recipe from my little Childhood Recipe Series. I got it from another American Girls Cookbook, this time from Samantha Parkington’s . In the series, Samantha is a girl living in the turn of the century. She is an orphan living with her grandmother (whom she calls Grandmary) in an upper-class household. One of her friends is an Irish servant girl named Nellie, and eventually both Samantha and Nellie are adopted by Samantha’s Aunt. Her books talk a lot about class disparity, woman’s suffrage, and child labor.

I don’t think I mentioned in the last post, but Addy is an African-American slave who escapes from a plantation with her mother. They both live in Philadelphia, and later on in the series her father (who had been sold to a different plantation when Addy was young) joins them. Her storyline deals mostly with prejudice and the difficulties Addy and her family encounter, even being in the Free North.

Anyway. I love the American Girls. Can you tell??

I made this recipe for Apple Brown Betty for the first time about 12 years ago (yeah, I was 12. I CAN DO THE MATH!), and I hadn’t made it since until this weekend. I’m not sure why, because it is really easy and super-delicious. It’s basically butter, breadcrumbs, sugar and apples. Easier than any apple pie, but twice as good. I’m not going to even try to touch the whole Thanksgiving meal thing, but if you’re looking for a twist on the traditional apple pie this would be a delectable alternative (look at me, breaking out the $5 words!).

Personally, I adore pie, but I’ve never been able to master the art that is the pie crust so I end up buying the pre-made stuff. This is kind of like apple pie, but there is no crust involved. I compare it to making lasagna – you just layer, layer, layer.

Recipe

4 apples

1.5 C bread crumbs

1/2 C brown sugar

3 TB butter

Cinnamon

1/3 C milk

Hard Sauce:

1/3 C butter

1/3 C powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Grease the bottom and sides of an 8×8 in plan with BUTTER! Or you can use cooking spray.

Peel, core and chop the apples into 1/4″ slices.

I’m working with a severely reduced kitchen, so my carrot peeler is MIA and I don’t actually own an apple corer. To get around that I used a paring knife to peel, chopped the apples in half and kind of sliced the core out of either side.

Cored apples. Sorta.

Sprinkle 1/2 C of the bread crumbs onto the bottom of the pan.

Follow by half of the apples, 1/4 C of brown sugar and 1 TB of the butter (chop the butter into small pieces and lay them evenly over the apple slices). Sprinkle the cinnamon over everything.

Add a second layer of breadcrumbs and repeat. So to clarify, you will have two layers of apples, butter, cinnamon and sugar, before you move to the next step which is the top of the dessert.

Top with 1/2 C of breadcrumbs and 1 TB butter cut into small pieces. Pour 1/3 C milk over the entire thing.

Bake at 375˚ for 45 min – 1 hr. While it is in the oven, take the 1/3 C butter for the hard sauce, cut it into chunks and put it in a bowl to soften.

I would suggest keeping a close watch on this while it bakes. I think my oven might bake at a very high temperature, because I had it set at 350˚ and my Apple Brown Betty was done in only 30 minutes. Once the top is a medium brown, you’re good to go and you should take it out.

Browned and ready!

When you take it out of the oven, make the hard sauce. Grab your softened butter.

Cream together with the powdered sugar and the vanilla.

Dab the sauce all over the top of the apple brown betty while it is still warm. This will allow the sauce to melt into the dessert.

You can serve immediately, or wait until it cools. I like to eat it warm.

You’re going to need some milk for this.
