Ficamos viciados. Recicle. Aproveite a dica.

Até breve.

SUSAN Boyle shrugged off claims that she had a break down during her visit to America earlier this week as she signed autographs for fans outside her home in Blackburn.

The star has been pictured in tears as she was surrounded by fans in New York’s Rockefeller Centre, where she was doing a live performance for NBC’s Today show.

But she said that her trip had been “absolutely brilliant” as she proudly posed with her debut album.

Casually dressed in a cream jumper and sporting a black beret adorned with jewels to keep away the cold, the 48-year-old waved to passers-by on the narrow street where she lives.

Bridget Boyle

Looking happy, she said that she hoped people would like her album.

I Dreamed a Dream is set to be number one in the album charts this weekend, after setting the highest first-day sales of the year with a whopping 130,000 copies flying off shelves.

And it is on track to beat the highest first-week sales of 375,872 for a debut album, which was set by Leona Lewis two years ago.

The CD is dedicated to the singer’s mother – Bridget Boyle who died in 2007 – and each song was chosen by SuBo because it had a special meaning.

Her management strongly denied that the Britain’s Got Talent performer had a breakdown whilst in the States, saying that she was overcome by emotion after receiving a quilt from fans.

A spokesman for Susan said: “She was just overjoyed and extremely touched with the reception she has had from everyone in America.”

A WINDSWEPT Susan Boyle breezed back into Scotland yesterday (Wed) after making a flying visit to America to launch her debut album.

And with her first disc ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ already going down a storm in the charts, SuBo said the outlook had never looked sunnier.

Sheltering from rain and gales with her trademark hair protected by a hood, she wandered around her locals shops almost unnoticed at first back in her West Lothian hometown of Blackburn.

Sporting a bright red scarf – complete with a badge of her pet cat Pebbles – she was eventually stopped by overjoyed friends and school children keen to welcome the star back home.

“Brilliant”

But she admitted her new jet-set lifestyle had left her a little bleary eyed.

Smiling Susan, 48, said: “I got back from America this morning and am a little jet lagged. New York was absolutely brilliant.”

Asked how promoting the new album was going, she grinned broadly, and said: “I hope everyone likes it.”

The Britain’s Got Talent performer protected herself from the elements with a light cream waterproof jacket.

But there was no hiding her new found celebrity when she was spotted by school kids eager to take her picture on their phones.

Breaking records

Despite looking tired, the star still took her time to talk to the kids, before walking home in the rain.

SuBo sold more than 130,000 copies of her album in the first day when it was released on Monday.

The Britain’s Got Talent Star is also widely rumoured to be outstripping the rest of the week’s top five albums combined.

If she sells more than 363,735 copies by Sunday – she will go down in history as having the fastest selling debut album in UK history.

The record was previously set by the Arctic Monkeys’ when they released ‘Whatever People Say I Am’ in January 2006.

By Cara Sulieman

SUSAN Boyle has dedicated her record-breaking debut album to her mum – saying she promised her she would “do something” with her life.

I Dreamed a Dream hit the shops today, but had already broken the sales record for pre-orders on website Amazon.

With bookies refusing to take bets on the CD reaching the top spot in the album charts this week, the debut was a success before it even hit the shelves.

And SuBo makes several references to her mum on the cover sleeve, dedicating her most famous song I Dreamed a Dream to Bridget Boyle, who died in 2007 aged 91.

“This is for you”

She writes: “It (I Dreamed a Dream) is about a mother living in hard times.

“Very similar to my dream on a more personal level of my ‘life gone by’ with mum who died at the age of 91 and who’s ‘dream’ it was that I should ‘do something’ with my life.

“Mum this is for you.”

And elsewhere in the sleeve notes there is a picture of Susan with Bridget, along with the dedication.

It reads: “I would like to dedicate this album to my beloved mother, to whom I made a promise to ‘be someone’.”

Diversity

The 48-year-old has said before that every song featured on the album means something to her, and the lyrics are accompanied by an explanation.

These comments provide an insight into the singer, who has struggled to cope with her meteoric rise to fame since she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in April.

After losing the final of the talent show to dance troupe Diversity, the singer was checked into the Priory suffering from exhaustion.

But the note about the hymn ‘Amazing Grace’ suggests that she had now come to terms with her new-found fame.

It reads: “About finding your way. Everything was new to me. I was scared, hope its better.

“I know it can be with your continued support which I find both touching and humbling.”

And she goes on to promise more than just a one-hit wonder as she writes about ‘The End of the World’: “Don’t be silly! It’s only the beginning!

“I want you to enjoy some more!”

With millions of copies of the album already sold in pre-orders, and millions more expected to fly off the shelves this week, it is anticipated that the star will still be in the number one spot at Christmas.

Bookies William Hill have put her as favourite for the festive top spot as some bookies refuse to accept bets.

And Margaret Mitchell, 69, from Edinburgh was one of the first fans to grab herself a copy in Edinburgh today (Mon).

“Just brilliant”

Out Christmas shopping with a friend, she had made the music shop her first stop to buy the CD.

She said: “I saw her on Sunday night on the X Factor and she was just brilliant.

“I’m a big fan and have been following her since she was on Britain’s Got Talent.

“She’s just so unusual and not what we were expecting. She’s just so good. I’m looking forward to hearing the album.”

Music store HMV have braced themselves for the rush to grab the singer’s album this week, expecting more than 300,000 copies to fly off the shelves.

“Biggest release of the year”

A spokeman for the company said: “Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream is set to become the biggest week-one album release of the year.

“Our online store, hmv.com, has received one of its largest-ever customer pre-orders for any album, whilst our high street stores around the country have been receiving numerous enquiries from fans for weeks now, especially those in her native Scotland.

“Based on this huge level of expected demand, which can only be boosted by SuBo’s much-anticipated X-Factor appearance this weekend, HMV predicts that the début album from the Britain’s Got Talent finalist will shift more than 300,000 copies in just six days – making it the biggest and fastest-selling week-one release of 2009.”

SUSAN Boyle has spoken about her meteoric rise to fame on the day that her album is released worldwide.

I Dreamed a Dream – the debut album from the 48-year-old – hits shops today (Mon) having already sold more pre-order copies than any other album on internet shopping website Amazon.

It is just another achievement for the spinster from Blackburn, West Lothian, who shot to fame after her appearance on Britain’s Got Talent in April.

And she has spoken for the first time about how it feels to get so much attention, and insists she is still “a wee wifey from Blackburn”.

“Beautiful”

Whilst staying at the five-star Peninsula Hotel in LA – where SuBo performed on Dancing with the Stars – it hit home how much life has changed for the star.

She said: “What a beautiful place it is. My pillow had the initial B embroidered on the pillow – little things like that made me realise how much my life has changed.”

And she went on to say that not winning the final of Britain’s Got Talent was a “relief”.

She said: “When it was revealed Diversity had won, there was actually a sense of relief.

“It was like an immense weight on my shoulders had suddenly been lifted. I was glad they won. They are a good bunch of lads and I wish them all the best.”

“Keep going”

It seems that although fame is a welcome surprise for the international star, she will always remain grounded.

Susan said: “Who would have thought the wee wifey from Blackburn would have achieved so much in just 11 months?

“It’s taught not to give up and to keep going no matter what your difficulties are.”

The star showed that she is still down to earth when she jumped on a bus to go shopping in her favourite shop M&Co in Bathgate last week.

Smiling and posing for pictures with fans, she popped in to buy a longline cardigan and two pairs of trousers from the budget shop.

By Cara Sulieman

SUSAN Boyle was all smiles during a flying visit back home to Blackburn today (Thurs) as bookies announced they were refusing to take any bets on her album reaching number one next week.

Bookmakers William Hill said they were “one hundred per cent certain” that the 48-year-old’s debut would top the charts after canvassing retailers the length and breadth of the UK.

And they have also tipped her as a favourite for the Christmas number one in the album charts – expecting her to beat Leona Lewis and even the Pope to the top spot.

Asked if she was excited about the prospect of bagging her first number one album, SuBo grinned broadly and gave the thumbs up, before waving goodbye.

“100 per cent certain she will be”

With odds of 6/4 on the Britain’s Got Talent star having a very merry festive season, she is streets ahead of another reality TV favourite Leona Lewis – who lags behind at 13/8.

But Rupert Adams, Susan Boyle expert at the bookies, said that there was outside chance she could be piped to the post by her spiritual leader who has been given odds of 16/1.

Mr Adams said: “We are refusing to give any odds or take bets on SuBo being number one in next week’s album chart because we are 100 per cent certain that she will be.

“I spoke to HMV yesterday and they are expecting the album to fly off the shelves.”

Shops are bracing themselves for a rush of customers as the debut album hits the shops next week.

Biggest selling

The nearest stockist to her hometown has already had locals asking when the record will be in stock.

And HMV stores in the capital are expecting boxes of CDs to arrive at the weekend to fill their stockrooms in time for Monday’s release date.

Entitled ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, the album topped the Amazon bestseller chart in September – three months before its release.

And it was announced just yesterday (Weds) that it is the biggest selling pre-order record in Amazon’s history.

The 48-year-old spinster captured hearts around the world when she belted out ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables on Britain’s Got Talent in April.

She became an overnight sensation, racking up millions of views on YouTube and staring on TV shows around the world, including Oprah.

Her world-wide fame was cemented when news of her debut album came out and fans rushed to pre-order their copy.

And the hysteria has led the manager of WH Smith’s in Bathgate – the nearest shop to Boyle’s house that will be selling the album – to expect a “rush” on Monday.

She said that customers had already been asking when the CD would be out and if they would be stocking it.

She added: “I’m definitely expecting a few people in on Monday. I’ve already had people asking about when they can get it.”

And the Assistant Manager at HMV in Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh said that the CDs were expected in over the weekend.

Martin said: “We’ll be getting them in a couple of days before hand to make sure we’ve got enough for Monday. I’m not sure if there will be a rush, but we’ve already had people enquiring about the album.

“We’ll have to wait and see what Monday brings.”

“Touch people”

Amazon announced Susan’s pre-order achievement earlier this week, saying that it was “testament” to her talents.

Julian Monaghan, head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk, said: “Just eight months ago, no one was aware of the talents of Susan Boyle. Now, she has generated more Amazon pre-order CD sales globally than any other artist.

“That is an incredible achievement and is testament to the fact that she has captured the hearts of people all over Britain, America and the rest of the world.”

And her record label, Columbia Records, said that Susan had an ability to “touch” people.

Steve Barnett, chairman of Columbia Records, said: “One of the things that is so unique about Susan Boyle is her ability to touch people around the world.

“We’re excited that ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ holds the new record for global pre-orders and that Amazon’s customers have supported her album in this way.”

So I figured I would share an image that I took at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show this year. The reason for the title of the post is because of this image. It’s not what you would expect, but at the same time, if you had seen the amount of money at the boat show, then you I guess it does make sense for this to be here. It’s a Ferrari 599 GBT – nice huh?

…should I tread carefully…nah I never have before lol

For those who have followed my past blogs, you know that I have had my arse chewed and handed back to me when it comes to my views on interracial dating. Example 1 and Example 2. I have been called racist (yep! me! racist! ) I have been called ignorant and a list of other things that made me giggle. All because I have stated that I am not interested in dating anyone outside of my race.

Excuse me for thinking that I can date who I please and get away with it! Excuse me for blogging about why I date black men exclusively! Excuse me for saying that I loves me some black men and have no interest in dating outside my race. I never knew that it was mandatory to be open to interracial dating :-|

Well when I heard about this story I raised my eyebrow and said ”hmmm, that’s disturbing, AND it has to be breaking some kind of law, isn’t it?”

Now those ppl who gave me a few words back on the BGT blogs about my interracial dating posts, would say that I would agree with this, but I don’t. My view is this: Date/marry whoever you like, but as for BGT I will date black men and black men only. I don’t have to be open to dating outside of my race and I don’t have to be excited about other people dating outside of their race. Personally it has nothing to do with me, but as for me, I will stick with my black brothas.

BUT I do not believe that there should be any law that can determine what race of person you marry. That is utterly ridiculous and Keith Bardwell needs his ass sued for this. He says his denial of the marriage license to the interracial couple was based on his experience with interracial marriages and the fact that they do not last long. He went on to say that he is looking out for the children.

Bullshit Keith!

This statement is the one that screamed out racist douchebag

I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way,” Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. “I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.

 -Keith Bardwell

Keith that statement alone says that you are a racist. You are so racist you could be Rush Limbaugh’s play cousin. It is from MY personal experience Mr. Bardwell that when a white person starts a statement off with “I’m not racist” and throws in “I have black friends” you had better watch out because their KKK robe is hanging in the hall closet waiting on the next rally. And did he say mixing of the races? That is some Mississippi Slave Master talk if I ever heard any. This happened in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana so thats close enough I guess.

The couple plans to consult the U.S. Justice Department to file a complaint and rightfully so.

Continuando a falar de música, eu queria indicar The Dave Matthew Band pra vocês.

Beijinhos,

The Sun has the entire song, which SuBo is set to perform on American Idol.

It’s a lovely cover of the Stones classic, although I’m not sure I would recognize the voice as SuBo’s had I not been clued in.

I never really thought the Stones would be good cover material for the Scottish sensation, but now that it has been put in my head, I want her to sing “As Tears Go By.”

By CARA SULIEMAN

THE BROTHER of Scots singing sensation Susan Boyle today (wed) blasted the type of show that helped make his sister famous – as he held his own talent hunt in Edinburgh.

Gerry Boyle, who was holding auditions for his own music label, said TV talent shows helped artists lose their credibility.

He said: “No disrespect to my sister but when an artist goes to shows like the X Factor, I don’t know if the public wants to buy their album, because they lose their credibility.

“With Instant Music we have identified a gap in the music market and we’re looking for people who fit that.”

£1 million prize

Mr Boyle was at the Dominion Theatre in Edinburgh to see a number of people perform for a chance to be signed to his new label, Instant Music.

The business whizz said he was planning to release a compilation album for the Christmas market including un-named established artists, alongside the new talent he picks up from a series of auditions.

And he revealed a cunning plan to help it succeed – the chance for customers to win £1 million by buying the disc.

He claims the proposed new album – which he hopes will be an annual tradition – will be marketed with the prize offered to customers who pick their favourite track with the winner whoever gives the best reason why via a money-spinning telephone hotline.

Gerry said: “With an incentive like that – we intend to top the album charts this December.”

“Biggest selling album”

He added: “What we are offering people is a guaranteed way to get their music out into the market place without having to impress Simon Cowells of the world.

“We have a whole team in place to write the music, to give the artists an image and record the songs.

“The instant music album will be the biggest selling album this Christmas – that’s what we’re hoping for.”

First up on stage yesterday was 64-year-old Stewart Abercromby, from Edinburgh, who sang Hallelujah.

He said: “I used to be in a band but we broke up 24 years ago and I haven’t sung since. I came along to audition because I like a challenge.

“It was nerve wracking going first and I think I could have done better – but I hope it was good enough.”

“Very interesting”

He was followed by 32-year-old Drew Gardner, who had travelled from Airdrie in Lanarkshire for the chance to try out.

He said: “I came down because I thought what Gerry was doing was very interesting. It’s giving people a chance without being like other talent shows.

“I have written over a hundred of my own songs – but performing is what I really want to do.”

Instant Music is one of a portfolio of products set up by Gerry under the Instant World brand.

He said previously he hoped to emulate the success of music mogul Cowell.

By Cara Sulieman

FANS failed to show their support for Susan Boyle when a Japanese film crew visited the Britain’s Got Talent star’s hometown of Blackburn today.

Two of SuBo’s biggest fans flew over from the States to meet up with a crew from Japan’s state broadcasters NHK to show them around the West Lothian town.

But they couldn’t find any of the singer’s fans so resorted to giving out badges featuring Susan’s smiling face to bemused passers-by.

Leslie McMillan – who had travelled from New York – said: “We just wanted to see where Susan Boyle was from and what her life was like before she became famous.”

“Remarkable”

The Japanese crew are making a two-part documentary charting the rise to fame of the 48 year-old surprise star.

They had hoped to get a few fans to join them in the town, but weren’t too disappointed with what the poor turn out.

Kanako Hiramoto, the team’s production assistant, said: “The two women here have a remarkable level of support for Susan. They are passionate about her and about the community.

“I think Blackburn is quite a simple town but it has been great because a lot of people are so supportive – it is such a warm community here.

“Susan has made it big in Japan and I think her fame will last for ever. We couldn’t broadcast the show in Japan but many people saw it on YouTube and fell in love with her.”

Marie (left) and Leslie in Blackburn

Leslie McMillan and her husband Des had already travelled to Blackburn in June to see the place where their idol grew up.

But Leslie’s twin sister Marie Brown was unable to come that time so the pair planned another trip.

Leslie said: “It was only after mentioning our travel plans on a fan site that I received a message from NHK, asking if they could accompany us to see some of the sights in Blackburn.

“Just to see how God will take a person who isn’t all perfect and lift them up is inspirational – it gives a lot of people hope.

“We came because we wanted to see where she comes from. It is really important because the community is such a tight community and she has been a part of it for such a long time and they have been with Susan through everything.”

“Quiet life”

And although Marie was following her sister’s lead, it was she who first heard of Susan.

She said: “I was sent the YouTube clip on my email and when I saw it I forwarded it on to all my family and friends because it is so inspirational. I was just blown away by Susan’s voice on her performance.

“We decided to come and experience the place where she was born and grew up and where she lived her quiet life before all this happened.

“People of all faiths are captivated by Susan Boyle. There’s something about her voice and her story that just captures people’s imagination.

“She needs her imperfections, if she was perfect she wouldn’t be so captivating.”

Number one

The crew filmed the two women in Blackburn’s Mill Centre, visiting the post office where hundreds of fan letters were sent in the weeks following Boyle’s appearance on Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year.

They then moved on to Susan’s local church before finally going to her house and meeting her former neighbours.

But there was no sign of the singing Scot or her beloved pet cat Pebbles yesterday.

She is gearing up to promote her debut album, I Dreamed a Dream, which currently tops the US Amazon album pre-release charts, with an official release due in November.

Escala, the electric string quartet, released their debut album, self titled “Escala”, this past June. The members, Izzy Johnston (violin), Victoria Lyon (violin), Chantal Leverton (viola), and Tasya Hodges (cello), are all professional musicians who have played in orchestras and other groups. Rising to fame on Britain’s Got Talent, they impressed the judges with every performance, but didn’t win because they didn’t receive enough public votes. The album contains the songs they performed on Britain’s Got Talent, “Palladio” and “Live and Let Die”.

When Escala’s album came out, so did alot of reviews saying they are a copycat of Bond, another string quartet. While I do find most of Bond’s work to be appealing, I find Escala to be even better. Escala has a more classical sound to their music. Their music flows a lot better–I easily listened through the entire CD. While Bond has great music like “Explosive”, I found that they put in alot of unecessary electronic sounds and effects, which made the music slightly not to my taste.

While Bond does get points for being more original, I like that Escala has turned familiar music from several different music genres into their own outstanding versions. A couple of the songs you might recognize are MUSE’s “Feeling Good” and Robert Mile’s “Children”.

I really do hope Escala becomes more well known because their music really is worth a listen.

By CARA SULIEMAN

ONE of Scotland’s most famous theatres is up for sale after its owners decided to sell all their venues in the UK.

The Edinburgh Playhouse is owned by a US company, Live Nation, who are looking to offload their 17 properties across the country.

But the future still looks bright for the iconic venue at the top of Leith around 20 theatre operators are interested in the building.

It has been the centre of Edinburgh’s history since it opened as a cinema in 1929, and recently hosted Susan Boyle’s homecoming performance after her stint on Britain’s Got Talent.

Tumultuous past

Other performances it has hosted include Les Miserables, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Bob Dylan.

The building comes with a tumultuous past – since it reopened as a theatre in 1980 it has had a string of owners and has changed hands numerous times.

Although nine jobs were cut earlier this year, the Playhouse is the most profitable venue in Live Nation’s portfolio.

Their chief operating officer for live music, Paul Latham, said that sale still might not go ahead.

“An offer we can’t refuse”

He said: “If we do sell, it will only be if the money is right – it will only be if someone pays a reasonable amount for what is still a going concern.

“We might not sell. It’s not a foregone conclusion. It will only be if somebody makes an offer we can’t refuse.”

Mr Latham is no stranger to the theatre as he was the manager from 1986 until the current owners took over in 2006, when he was promoted to his current position.

Live Nation is believed to be turning their focus on live music rather than venues.

Kings Theatre

The company is already known internationally as successful music promoters, organising the tour for Madonna and U2 amongst others.

Other companies are said to be lining up to place bids for the theatre, including another US firm Key Brand Entertainment, Dutch Stage Entertainment and the Ambassador Theatre Group who run the Kings Theatre.

It is hoped that whoever takes over the venue will appreciate and maintain the history of the 3000-seater venue and continue to add to its current success.

Councillor Steve Cardownie, the city’s arts champion, said: “I would hope whoever takes over would understand the heritage of the theatre and that it is integral to the fabric of the city.

“It attracts big names to Edinburgh through its history and successful relationship with the industry. I hope this sale does not jeopardise that.”

The Playhouse’s general manager, James Howarth, said: “Just now I only know as much as you.”

MPs can be forgiven if they did not have much time last week to sign up to an Early Day Motion by Keith Vaz.

The resignations of Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, Communities Secretary Hazel Blears and Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell pushed the Westminster rumour-mill into overdrive as gossip about a possible challenge to the Prime Minister filled the air.

Mr Vaz tabled an EDM last Tuesday that should have got widespread support from MPs keen to show the electorate that they are in touch with real lives.

15 million people tuned in to watch the final of Britain’s Got Talent, yet so far not one MP has signed up to Mr Vaz’s BGT-related EDM.

“That this House congratulates Diversity for their victory in the ITV1 show Britain’s Got Talent,” it reads.

“Notes that they received 24.9 per cent. of the votes cast; praises the group for their fantastic performance and for highlighting the positive impact of multiculturalism on the UK; encourages more young people to follow their example and to engage in positive community-based activities; and calls on the Government to do more to promote ethnic minority participation in the arts.”

Susan Boyle, the runner-up in the talent competition, fared better in terms of political attention.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown told GMTV last week that he spoke to show presenters Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan to check on Ms Boyle’s health after she suffered a minor breakdown in the wake of her defeat.

She is recovering in rehab facility The Priory.
