Iran’s Parliament urged President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s government to submit a plan on reducing its cooperation level with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).   Can you imagine less cooperation?

The move came after the IAEA voted to rebuke Iran over its construction of a second uranium enrichment plant.  IAEA passed a resolution demanding that Tehran immediately stop building its newly-revealed nuclear facility and freeze uranium enrichment. The IAEA resolution criticized Iran for defying a U.N. Security Council ban on uranium enrichment – the source of both nuclear fuel and the fissile core of warheads.

In today’s statement, the Members of Parliament condemned the resolution as a politicized measure that shows the West’s double standards.  The IAEA is proving once again what a weak and non-valued department of the United Nations they really are.

Joe Biden tried to remind us that “this president will be tested” but few were listening.  Kennedy was tested by Russia because Khrushchev thought he was weak.   Joe knew that the world will see President Obama as weak and this is why Iran can flaunt it’s Nuclear Ambitions at both the United Nations and the Western World.  The building of a weapon is a sovereign countries right.  The building of a weapon you intend to use is an act of war.  Iran purpose is the destruction of Israel and western civilizations.  When will this administration get serious?  Probably after it’s to late.

Speaking Thursday morning, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said he could “guarantee” that arch-terrorist Marwan Barghouti would not be released from prison in any deal to exchange terrorists for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. “We have no intention to free the head of the murderers, a person who has been sentenced to four life terms in prison. There are red lines, and this is one of them,” Lieberman said.

In response to U.S. demands that Israel free an additional 1,000-some terrorists as a “gesture” to Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, Lieberman said that previous releases of Fatah terrorists “have not proven themselves. The Olmert administration did this several times and it did not work, and we do not plan to allow it to happen,” Lieberman said.

Soon to be the most notorious party crashers of all time, Michele and Tareq Salahi were photographed with the President and Vice President among other luminaries at state dinner for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of India, on November 24, 2009.

Investigators looking into the couple were unable to find a valid invitation  for the couple.   Although Michele and Tareq Salahi appear to have no visible means of support they are famous for being famous and they have been photographed with Prince Charles and Oprah Winfrey.  They even had a supreme court justice speak at their wedding.

The Salahis are magnets for law suits as they are named as either plaintiffs or defendents in 16 legal actions.  One of the lawsuits involves a bankrupt winery and unhappy family members.

All is not lost however for it seems that the Salihis were auditioning for the reality TV showed called the Real Housewives of  DC.  Surely they have much more credibility than the parents of balloon boy as no small children were alledged to have been in dangered by the stunt.

The media has done it again. They have taken two people that no one cared about and turned them into front page news. Instead of focusing of course on the real danger that Obama could have faced, they focus on the crashers, their life, and all the drama that comes a long with it.

I get it. They have to sell those stories and people don’t care about anything except psychopath’s that thought it would be fun to sneak into the White House party. At the same time, I could care less about these people. Once again, I really don’t want to hear about them at all. They should be tried, the security at the door should be fired, and the case should be closed. End of story. The more press we give these people the more they won’t go away.

I’d rather not see two drama obsessed socialites make front page news all the time.

Maybe that’s just me.

Tareq y Michaele Salahi conforman el matrimonio que ha conseguido ridiculizar a la guardia pretoriana del Presidente de los Estados Unidos de América. Vestidos de etiqueta, consiguieron atravesar el control de seguridad del Servicio Secreto que supervisaba la entrada de los invitados a la primera cena de estado celebrada por  Barack Obama, en honor del primer ministro indio Manmohan Singh.

Se trata de otra de esas noticias que seguramente no hubiéramos conocido de no ser por  Internet. Los Salahi colgaron en Facebook sus fotos con algunos de los asistentes a la cena, incluidos el mismísimo vicepresidente Joe Biden (extrañamente engominado si tenemos en cuenta su imagen de americano “campechano” que tanto se esfuerza por mantener) y Rahm Emanuel, Jefe de Gabinete de la Administración Obama.

Parece ser que los Salahi son una pareja de millonarios aficionados al polo cuya única ocupación en la vida es asistir a exclusivas fiestas y posar con famosos o, como los define El País citando a The Washington Post, “organizadores de bailes de caridad, actos políticos de recaudación de fondos, espectáculos de moda y eventos de polo”. Unos verdaderos maestros de las relaciones públicas.

Desde luego, burlar al Servicio Secreto no debe ser fácil. Desde el asesinato del Presidente William McKinley en 1901, el Servicio Secreto es el cuerpo dedicado a proteger al Presidente de Estados Unidos. Su tarea es especialmente crítica con Barack Obama, que recibe todo tipo de amenazas de grupos de ultraderecha y supremacistas blancos.

 Más allá de cuestiones relacionadas con la seguridad, la hazaña de los Salahi tiene un alto valor simbólico desde el punto de vista de la comunicación. Simplemente colgando unas fotos en Facebook, han conseguido poner en evidencia al Servicio Secreto estadounidense y a sus agentes, verdaderas máquinas de matar que han estado siempre  rodeados de mitología y misterio (la lista de libros y películas en torno al Servicio Secreto es interminable).  Ahora bien, de poco sirve tanto simulacro si Michaele Salahi es capaz de entrar en los jardines de la Casa Blanca y  posar junto a tres sonrientes marines. El simbolismo de estas fotografías, el daño que provocan a la imagen del Servicio Secreto, es incalculable. Ningún documental con explosiones, limusinas y todo tipo de trucos de montaje podría tener tantas implicaciones desde el punto de vista de la comunicación como una instantánea de los Salahi rodeando con sus brazos a Biden.

As Time Magazine laid the trials and tribulations of the Obama administration out to air (as I discussed two days ago), James Traub’s New York Times Magazine article on VP Joe Biden may prove to be the effective counterpoint.  As you will recall (or, not doubt read below), Joe Klein hinted at a missing intellectual counterpart to Obama in the White House.

Traub, basing his article in the importance of Biden to current U.S. foreign policy, constructs an effigy of an experienced pragmatist striving to understand more about — and question more fervently — the policy decisions the United States will take in the coming weeks, months and years.

Biden not only plays the role of experienced confidant to the younger U.S. President — as he has assumed the role of policy-maker, negotiator and democracy advocate in Iraq —  but also the outspoken advocate for a more questioning approach to America’s presumed excellence on the world stage –questioning policy on Afghanistan and the appropriate approach to American strategy in the post-Bush world.

Despite being typecast (perhaps mistakenly?) as the loose-lipped distraction in Obama’s well-spoken reign, to conclude that Biden fails to provide an effective – if not critical – sounding board in the Oval Office may well be the larger mistake.

Perhaps you’ve been too busy to learn the story of the couple that wasn’t invited to the White House the other night, but who went, and got in, anyway.

Not two hours after the party, Mrs. Salahi had on her Facebook page a dozen photos of her and her husband with Washington’s social elite.

I had been wondering how they do security at the White House at a big state dinner. You can’t treat dignitaries and VIP’s like regular schlemiels, making them stand at the gate while background checks are run, can you?

The Secret Service is investigating how a couple aspiring to be reality-show celebrities managed to appear at President Obama’s first state dinner without being on the guest list, provoking questions about security at the White House.

There has to be a sort of passive screening, I’d assumed, which allows VIP’s to be admitted with fairly casual security.

The inquiry was begun after a Virginia couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, slipped past multiple layers of high-level White House security Tuesday night and managed to rub shoulders, literally, with Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and the White House chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, among others, at Washington’s most exclusive social event this year.

Word is it took the Salahis a couple of tries to make their way inside, getting in on foot after driving in failed.

Brian Williams, the anchor of “NBC Nightly News” and a guest at the dinner, saw the Salahis arrive when he was waiting in a line of cars to enter the East Gate of the White House. In interviews broadcast on NBC on Thursday, Mr. Williams said the couple’s vehicle was turned away, adding, “Actually the first ring of Secret Service security had worked.”

You have to hand it to Brian Williams, situating himself where news is likely to break.

“After their vehicle was turned away, they hopped out,” Mr. Williams said. “What attracted our attention was there was at least one camera trailing them. And a makeup woman got out and fixed the woman’s hair and then started powdering the man’s forehead.”

Mrs. Salahi is reported to be under consideration for a reality TV show, and a team from Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of D.C.” was following her around that day as part of the selection process.

Whether or not they wind up on “Housewives,” the couple have certainly acted as if they were stars. They are now scheduled to be on “Larry King Live” on Monday.

For all the work they do to keep the President safe, isn’t it interesting that it all comes apart when there are some celebrities around?

“Obviously, somebody dropped the ball,” said Rep. Peter King, of New York. “I mean, you’re talking about the president of the United States and the vice president and a powerful world leader, the prime minister of India.” The prime minister, Manmohan Singh, was the guest of honor.

Hollywood tycoons and other critical Obama supporters like Oprah girlfriend Gayle King were there in what was billed as an extremely difficult guest list to make.

Mr. King said he had seen people turned away from similar White House events, including a congressman who brought his daughter instead of his wife, whose name was on the list. He also raised concerns about the Secret Service’s assertion that Mr. Obama was safe because all guests passed through metal detectors.

King, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, is appalled that the president didn’t have better security.

“The fact they went through the magnometer is incidental,” he said. “They could have had anthrax on them. They could have grabbed a knife from the dining room table.”

Others have crashed presidential events in prior administrations.

Richard Weaver wormed his way into President Bush’s 2001 inauguration and shook Mr. Bush’s hand, repeating a stunt he pulled off at President Clinton’s 1997 inauguration. Security caught him attempting to crash the 2005 ceremony and he was barred from entering the White House or Capitol grounds for five years.

A couple of aspiring reality-TV stars from Northern Virginia appear to have crashed the White Houses state dinner Tuesday night, penetrating layers of security with no invitation to mingle with the likes of Vice President Biden and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Obama ‘Reaches Out’ by Naming ‘Devout’ Muslims to Security Posts

(IsraelNN.com) U.S. President Barack Obama continues to “reach out to Muslims” by appointing them to key security posts amid charges he wrongly ignored internal Muslim terror. One recent appointee was harshly criticized for appearing on a British-based television station whose host is a member of a radical Muslim group.

His “reaching out Muslims” speech in Cairo last June has been followed by action, the latest being this past week’s swearing-in of a Muslim rights advocate to the Homeland Security Advisory Council, shortly after the Fort Hood massacre. HSAC members are involved in expertise on national security.

The new member is Syrian-born Kareem Shora, who was the national executive director of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination (ADC), which previously has called on the United States to stop providing Israel with weapons because of alleged “atrocities” against Arabs. Her background for her new security post is having been a legal counsel and advocate for Muslim civil rights.

She also has been a frequent guest on the pro-Hamas al-Jazeera satellite network.

Shora, who has been described as a “devout Muslim, joins another devout member of the faith, Arif Alikhan, who was appointed as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development in the Department of Homeland Security. His qualifications for the job were listed as having been in charge of public safety in Los Angeles during his term of deputy mayor. One of his actions was to remove the plan that tracked Muslims in the city who were suspected of terrorist activities.

Americans have been jolted by several lethal attacks and confrontations with Muslims over the past year, including a plot to attack synagogues and down U.S. military aircraft, the manufacture of bombs, an alleged attempt to explode a Texas skyscraper, a plot to blow up malls in Boston, and last month’s Fort Hood massacre by a Muslim psychiatrist who was an officer in the army.

A desire to avoid the appearance of labeling all Muslims as terrorists lunged out from the shadows last month after President Obama faced criticism for not taking seriously the threat of Muslim terrorism within American society as well as in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Several months ago, President Obama appointed Dalia Mogahed, a “devout Muslim,” to his Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. She quickly came under fire for appearing in a telephone interview on a London-based Muslim television station, whose host is a member of an extreme Islamic group.

She said was unaware of the affiliations of her host, whose program included questions and comments favoring the implementation of Islamic Law (“sharia”).

Mogahed explained that she did not hang up the phone in the middle of the interview because “I assumed that very few people would watch this show but that doing something more dramatic would bring more attention.”

In the current issue of Newsweek, columnist Jacob Weisberg, citing former Secretary of State Colin Powell, wrote that “Obama’s [Muslim] heritage feeds a broader suspicion that he is too casual about the threat from America’s Islamist enemies.”

The journalist added, “With the massacre in Texas, Obama now confronts something that George W. Bush did not face in the years after September 11—not just a major act of domestic terrorism, but one struck from inside our security apparatus…. America does not face a threat from the perversion of faith in general. We face a threat from the perversion of one faith in particular.”

Son con los hechos y acciones -no con palabras y discursos-, que la verdadera esencia de un hombre político, en este caso de Barack Obama, queda plasmada.

Y es esto lo que está sorprendiendo a más de un intelectual o analista político. La mayoría de las promesas formuladas durante su campaña electoral: cierre de Guantánamo -centro de tortura en Cuba-, la retirada militar en Irak después de la invasión del país por el petróleo u otras no son respetadas. El reconocido pensador Noam Chomsky comenta esta situación:

<<Las esperanzas y perspectivas para la paz no estaban bien fundadas ni de lejos. La tarea consiste en afinarlas. Presumiblemente fuera ése el intento de la comisión del Premio Nobel de la Paz al elegir al presidente Barack Obama. El premio «parecía una suerte de plegaria e impulso de la comisión del Nobel a un liderazgo estadounidense más consensuado», tal y como escribieron Steven Erlanger y Cerril Gay Stolberg en The New York Times.

La naturaleza de la transición Bush-Obama radica directamente en la probabilidad de que las plegarias y los ánimos puedan implicar algún progreso.

Las preocupaciones de la comisión del Nobel eran válidas. Escogían la retórica de Obama en punto a la reducción del armamento nuclear.
Precisamente ahora las pretensiones nucleares de Irán dominan los titulares. Las advertencias son que Irán puede estar ocultando algo a la Agencia Internacional de la Energía Atómica (IAEA) y violando la Resolución 1887 del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, aprobada el mes pasado y jaleada como una victoria de los esfuerzos de Obama por contener a Irán.

Significativamente, el debate sigue sobre si la reciente decisión de Obama de reconfigurar los sistemas de defensa de misiles en Europa es una capitulación ante los rusos o un pragmático paso adelante en la defensa de Occidente ante un ataque nuclear iraní.

El silencio es a menudo más elocuente que el más atronador de los clamores, de modo que atendamos a aquello que permanece implícito.

En pleno furor sobre la doblez iraní, la IAEA aprobó una resolución en que exhortaba a Israel a suscribir el Tratado de no proliferación nuclear (NPT) y abrir sus instalaciones nucleares a su inspección [1].
Los Estados Unidos y Europa intentaron bloquear la resolución, pero ésta salió adelante de todos modos.
Los medios de comunicación obviaron en la práctica el acontecimiento.

Los Estados Unidos aseguraron a Israel su apoyo al rechazo de la resolución, reiterando un acuerdo secreto que ha permitido a Israel mantener su arsenal nuclear a resguardo de las inspecciones internacionales, según funcionarios habituados a esos arreglos [2].
De nuevo los medios de comunicación permanecieron en silencio.

Los funcionarios indios saludaron la Resolución 1887 de la ONU con el anuncio de que la India «puede construir ahora armas nucleares del mismo poder destructivo que los arsenales con mayor poder nuclear del mundo», según informó Financial Times.
Tanto la India como Pakistán están aumentando sus programas de armamento nuclear. Han estado por dos veces cerca de la guerra nuclear, y los problemas que a punto han estado de encender la catástrofe permanecen vivos en gran medida.

Obama saludó la Resolución 1887 de modo distinto. El día antes de que se le concediera el premio Nobel por su compromiso con el estímulo de la paz, el Pentágono anunciaba que estaba acelerando la distribución de las más letales armas no nucleares en su arsenal: 13 toneladas de bombas para bombarderos sigilosos B-2 y B-52, diseñadas para destruir búnkeres ocultos en profundidades y protegidos por 10.000 libras de hormigón.

No es ningún secreto que esos cazadores de búnkeres podrían emplearse contra Irán. Los planes por tales «destructores de artillería masiva» empezaron en los años de Bush, pero languidecieron hasta que Obama hizo un llamamiento a desarrollarlos más rápidamente cuando llegó al poder.

Unánimemente aprobada, la Resolución 1887 exhorta a poner fin a las amenazas de fuerza y a la firma por todos los países del NPT, como hiciera Irán hace años.

Quienes no lo han firmado son la India, Israel y Pakistán y todos ellos han desarrollado armas nucleares con la ayuda de los EEUU, violando el NPT.

A diferencia de los Estados Unidos, Israel y la India (que ocupa brutalmente Cachemira), Irán no ha invadido a ningún otro país desde hace centenares de años.
La amenaza de Irán es minúscula.
Si tuviera armas nucleares y sistemas de transporte para utilizarlos, el país sería desintegrado. El analista estratégico Leonard Weiss apunta que creer que Irán vaya a utilizar armamento nuclear para atacar a Israel o a cualquier otro «es tanto como asumir que los líderes iraníes están locos» y que están deseando ser reducidos a «polvo radioactivo», y añade que los submarinos portamisiles de Israel son «prácticamente impermeables a los ataques militares preventivos», por no hablar del inmenso arsenal estadounidense.

En sus maniobras navales de julio, Israel envió sus submarinos Dolphin, capaces de transportar misiles nucleares al mar rojo a través del Canal de Suez, a veces acompañados de buques de guerra, a una posición desde donde podrían atacar a Irán [3], ya que tienen el «derecho de soberanía» para hacerlo, según el vicepresidente de los EEUU, Joe Biden.

No es la primera vez que se cubre con un velo de silencio lo que aparecería en titulares de portada en sociedades que valoraran su libertad y se preocuparan por el destino del mundo.
El régimen iraní es duro y represivo y persona humana alguna quiere que Irán o cualquier otro disponga de armamento nuclear.
Pero un mínimo de honestidad no haría daño al tratar estos problemas.

Al Premio Nobel de la Paz, huelga decirlo, no le interesa sólo la reducción de la amenaza de una guerra nuclear terminal, sino más bien la guerra en general y la preparación para ésta. En lo tocante a esto, la selección de Obama produce sorpresa, no menor en Irán, rodeado de ejércitos de ocupación estadounidenses.

En las fronteras de Afganistán y Pakistán, Obama ha intensificado la guerra de Bush y es probable que prosiga ese camino, quizás con dureza.

Obama ha dejado claro que los Estados Unidos proyectan a largo plazo un despliegue mayor en la región. Lo indica suficientemente esa enorme ciudad dentro de la ciudad llamada la embajada de Bagdad, distinta de cualquier otra embajada del mundo.
Obama ha anunciado la construcción de macroembajadas en Islamabad y Kabul y consulados enormes en Peshawar y en todas partes.

Informes independientes sobre presupuestos y controles de seguridad para el ejecutivo sostienen que la demanda de la «administración de 538.000 millones de dólares para el Departamento de Defensa en el año fiscal 2010 y su acreditada intención de mantener un nivel alto de financiación en los próximos años colocan al presidente en el camino de gastar más en defensa, en dólares reales, que cualquier otro presidente en un solo mandato desde la Segunda Guerra Mundial».
«Y no se contabilizan los 130.000 millones adicionales que la administración ha solicitado para financiar las guerras de Iraq y Afganistán durante el próximo año, lo que supondrá un gasto militar previsto para los próximos años aun mayor».>>
