Dorfen (as) – Am Sonntag, dem 27. September 2009 fand das traditionelle Herbstfest des Gymnasiums Dorfen statt – bestens organisiert und durchgeführt vom Elternbeirat, der Lehrerschaft und den Schülern.Viele Besucher nutzten den sonnigen Tag und folgten der Einladung des Gymnasiums.

Eigentlich hör ich solche Musik nicht.. wenn, dann nur in der Bigband selber spielen. Aber zur Zeit geht es bei uns in Musik um Jazz und da haben wir dieses Stück ganz zufällig angehört. Gefällt mir gut

Am heutigen Sonntag wird in der Dreikönigskirche auf der Hauptstraße 23 in Dresden das fünfjährige Jubiläum des Island H. Orchesters unter dem Motto “Zurück in die Zukunft” gefeiert. Die Bigband spielt dabei, wie der Name schon vermuten lässt, Filmmusiken aus verschiedenen Genres. Bandleader Sebastian Scobel läd ganz herzlich dazu ein und ich sage euch, ihr solltet kommen. Es wird der Hammer!
Das Konzert beginnt um 20 Uhr.

Diverse Stände laden zum Schlemmen ein

Gestern war es dann soweit: Der Besuch des Kürbisfestes auf dem Hof der Familien Roelen stand an.

Ich hatte ehrlichweise gedacht, dass es sich um eine nette kleine Veranstaltung für eine Handvoll Stammkunden handelt… Weit gefehlt!
Auf der Ulmenstraße war nur mit Glück ein Parkplatz zu ergattern und je näher wir dem Hof kamen, desto lauter wurde es. “Wir” waren neben Heike und mir von Heikes Schwester Evelyn nebst ihrem Mann Jörg und der kleinen Tocher Kenly, die morgen aus dem Baby- ins Kleinkindalter wechselt…

Nicht nur Autos standen da; das Wetter hatte zum Radausflug praktisch eingeladen. Wer weiß schon, ob es nicht der letzte Ausflug in diesem Jahr sein wird…

Kürbisstand

Im Hof selbst waren neben einem großen Verkaufsstand für Kürbisse noch ein Bierpilz und 3 Verkaufsbuden mit Reibekuchen, Mikrowellenkürbissen und allerlei aus den heimischen Wälder (Rotwildbraten, Wildschweingulasch und -braten) zu finden.
Hinter dem dem Eingang gegenüberliegenden Tor ging es weiter: In der Durchfahrt weitere Verkaufsstände mit Holzspielzeug, Decken und Büchern.

Dann spielte unter der Remiese eine BigBand. Und wieder Verkaufsstände: Essige, Öle, Senf, Honig… alles Produkte aus der näheren Umgebung!

Musik und mehr

Neben der großen Halle, die sich an den eigentlichen Hof anschließt, steht die große Warenhalle, wo in der Spargelsaison der Spargel sortiert und verpackt wird. Hier befand sich die Cafeteria, wo es ganz grausigen Kaffee (der einzige Punkt, der “gestört” hat!) und diverse Kuchen und Waffeln zu wirklich günstigen Preisen gab.
Auch in dieser Halle boten Hunsthandwerker Schuck, Holzassesoires und Keramik an.

Für die Kinder gab es diverse Vergnügungsmöglichkeiten: angefangen von einer “Waldschule” mit Tieren über die Möglichkeit, Keramikfiguren mehr oder minder kunstvoll zu anzumalen bis hin zu einem kleinen Heuballen-Parcour, in dem getobt werden konnte.

Fazit: ein wirklich gelungener kleiner Ausflug mit leckerem Essen und netter Unterhaltung für die ganze Familie!!!
Wer noch nichts vorhat: heute (20.09.2009) bis 18:00 Uhr findet der zweite Tag des Kürbisfestes statt!!!

Participate in the game show “Bonk!” (an interactive game show that is part general knowledge, part physical mayhem and all comedy).

Country Music: Feb. 20, 2010– 7-night “Eastern Caribbean Enchantment” cruise itinerary. Boot, scoot and boogie to music by various country artists. Line dancing lessons also will be offered onboard.

Oldies Music: March 20, 2010– 7-night “Eastern Caribbean Dream” itinerary, featuring a performance by The Lettermen – Tony Butala, Donovan Tea and Mark Preston – one of the most popular vocal groups in history. Their 45-year career of unique sound spans the big band vocal and the early rhythm and blues rock groups. The Lettermen will perfom one grand show onboard during this old time rock-and-roll festival at sea.

Plus, The Fabulous Stingrays, a party band performing songs spanning the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, will keep onboard guests rocking and rolling to the sounds of the oldies all night long. Other activities will include an Elvis look-alike contest, dance competitions, trivia games and a lecture on the rock-and-roll era.

Festa Italiana: April 10, 2010– 7-night “Island Treasures & Ancient Temples” itinerary. This celebration of all things Italian features entertainment by opera singers and contemporary

Italian vocal artists. Dance the night away or simply sit back and enjoy performances by bands that play Italian and Italian-American favorites. Activities include Venetian mask making, a pizza throwing contest, tarantella dancing and more.

I found out about Ella late in my life (when is it ever early to find out about her?). Her voice is simply the finest I have ever heard.

I also admire her dedication to her music. I heard she kept singing until her dieing days. God (insert your god here) for giving us such a blessing.

Now to the song, Everytime we say goodbye is my favourite. Its one of the first songs ever to bring me to a tear. I couldn’t tell you why.

I really hate the fact that I will never be able to hear her live. Sometimes life isn’t fair. She forgets the words during this performance but the performance seems seamless.

Apa yang saya rasa di ITB Big Band Concert 2008 ini campur aduk jadi satu. Saya sendiri bingung memisahkannya, tapi akan saya coba menuliskannya sebisa saya…

##Legacy

Saya masih PINKA saat 1991 ITB Big Band Concert diselenggarakan (berubah dari Festival Brass Band 1989). Wondering all the way back.
1989 belom masuk ITB, cuma kagum liat piala-nya di GWB, ini jaman Mas Wicak
1991 bengong dan nge-ces kepingin doang liat yg latihan
1993 jadi ketua penyelenggara konser (dalam rangkaian acara temu alumni, workshop)
1994 jadi ketua MB pas penyelenggaraan
1996 jadi pengagum pas IBBC jadi acara pembuka SABUGA
1997 jadi alumni yang ngerecokin
1999 ngelatih bigband pertama kali, BB Waditra Ganesha
2004 VABB ikut pertama kali, gak main tapi ngelatih
2005 VABB ikut kedua kali, nerbangin pesawat kertas, main clarinet
2006 pertama kalinya jadi penonton, sebel karena VABB gak diundang
2007 VABB ikut ketiga kali, jadi conductor

Terkagum sendiri ngebayangin tahun 91 saya masih jual tiket dan tahun segitu soloist kita Yudha (tenor sax) baru lahir. Aku kok tiba2 merasa tua yah?

##Top of The Line

Tim Van Alloy Big Band di ITB Big Band Concert 2008 kemarin adalah salah satu tim terkuat bigband yang pernah saya ikuti. Hampir merata skill teknik-nya dan ternyata didukung oleh tim rhytm section yang mantap juga.

Tanpa mengecilkan beberapa mis-komunikasi yang terjadi, tim ini adalah salah satu tim yang paling padu secara emosional. Mungkin saya agak euphoria, tapi rasanya memang begitu. ‘Blend’ dari tim ini terasa banget. Terutama emotional bond-nya.

##Energy dari New Members

Banyak banget member baru dalam formasi Van Alloy Big Band kali ini, namun rasanya kok ya lagi-lagi para member baru ini pas banget mengisi di kekosongan dan kelemahan yang sedang kita punya.
Trumepets: Ditto dan Rahmat sedang ‘on fire’
Trombone: Yudhi yang muncul dari puncak Jayawijaya
Saxophones: Boyke dan Elma yang penuh semangat, Yudha yg jago banget dan rendah hati
Rhytm: Sherly yang disiplin baca, Chaka yg seperti jantung berdegub
Vocals: Zinnia yang moantap bangett…

##Level of Performance

Level penampilan dan ekspresi panggung kita salah satu dari puncak yang pernah kita alami. Mungkin level tertinggi secara skill dan musikal yang pernah Van Alloy Big Band capai. Lebih tinggi dari IBBC 2005, lebih tinggi dari JavaJazz Festival 2008.

Bersyukur banget saya berperanserta di band ini

Dengan level penampilan seperti kemarin saya cukup pede untuk membawa VABB main dimana saja, festival apasaja, panggung jazz manasaja. We have achieved that level.

##Will Miss You

Setahun mendatang hidup bakal tambah susah (baca: sekolah tambah berat) mau tak mau harus mengurangi kegiatan bersenang2 yang butuh komitmen jangka panjang seperti band ini… hiks…

The great Indian Music director A.R.Rahman and my favourite musician is now going to host the India’s biggest music reality show BIGBAND in Doordarshan.The show is produced by Phat Phish, an integrated entertainment and communications company.

A R Rahman will traverse the journey across 15 Indian cities through his eyes. Beginning in the first week of December, the show will be aired in the prime time slot. This show will be the hunt for the biggest music band. Apart from India, it will also go to Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka, for a three-year recording contract with Phat Phish Records.

The winner band will be awarded a 3 year recording contract with Phat Phish Records, as well as cash prize worth Rs 1 crore (Rs 10 million). This will include end-to-end artist management, three albums and six music videos, tours and concerts across the world and mentoring from leading musicians.

The last date for receipt of applications from aspiring contestants is November 15, 2008.

Selamat untuk Kuki dan Elma yang udah punya alat baru. Mengkilap euyyy…. Cihuyyy….

Sebenarnya pernah dulu banget, ngobrol panjang sama Atoon, kayaknya pas kami menginap di Hotel Atlet Century Senayan, pas setelah tampil buruk di acara Ceria Worley dan akan berangkat ke Banjarmasih (trip pertama). Atoon mengungkapkan sisi lain dari band kita ini. Dia cerita betapa sebagai orang yg bergelut di bidang musik, kagum sama rekan-rekan, yang mengorbankan banyak hal untuk bisa memainkan musik bersama-sama. (Hhhmmmm… sebenernya bukan memainkan musik bersama sih, bersama-sama tapi main musik..- halah -). Misal Atoon mengungkapkan pertanyaan sederhana tapi susah dijawab, “Mas Anto beli clarinet buat main di weekend bareng vanalloy saja kan? Tidak buat cari duit?” Apalagi kalau kita bahas lagi rekan-rekan lain yang punya lebih dari satu alat musik.

Bayangkan, membeli alat, mengeluarkan uang, membongkar tabungan, untuk sesuatu yang … mmmm …. bukan duit.
Mungkin kita memandangnya ‘biasa saja, seperti beli sepeda gunung atau raket tennis’, tapi di mata orang yang cari duit dan berkecimpung di area musik seperti Atoon, hal ini berarti berbeda samasekali.

Lalu seminggu lalu saya obrol di dalam si Macan (panther merah) sambil anter Chaka, bassist, pulang (maklum bawaannya guede). Chaka menyampaikan kekaguman yang mirip, mengingatkan aku sama cerita Atoon bbrp tahun lalu, namun ada satu kalimat yang membuat aku tertegun…

… kami sekolah mati-matian (Chaka sekolah musik di IMDI), menurut saya untuk mendapatkan ‘kecintaan kepada musik’. Menurut saya apapun teknik yang kami pelajari di sekolah adalah untuk bisa mencintai musik secara tulus, seperti yang rekan-rekan VanAlloy tunjukkan…

Chaka lalu bercerita tentang mengapa dia memandang kita cinta musik dan kekagumannya dengan pengorbanan yang kita ambil untuk ’sekedar’ mengikuti rasa rindu main musik itu. Bahasa Chaka, rekan-rekan VanAlloy sudah mendapatkan ekspresi dan kecintaan bermusik itu sendiri meskipun tidak memiliki skill yang mumpuni. Gantian saya yang kagum, karena saya jadi ngeri membayangkan orang berlatih teknik memainkan alat musik sampai bisa akrobat jungkir balik, namun tidak juga mendapatkan ‘jatuh cinta pada musik’….

Untuk Kuki dan Elma, welcome to the club…
Untuk Atoon dan Chaka, thank you. Pencerahannya terpisah 2 tahun lebih tapi baru ‘klik’ di kepala saya.

Jadi ayo kita hargai pengorbanan dan kecintaan rekan2 kita buat berlatih.
Sabtu depan latihan ya… kita habiskan itu Every Little Thing !!!

The Bad Thing! In Staines

The Bad Thing, St Peters Staines May 24 2008

Alternative rock outfit The Bad Thing, inspired by bands such as Foo Fighters and the Buzz Cocks (albeit with a more experimental and progressive sound) used a simple lyrical structure that allowed lead singer Scatty to throw emotion at the crowd. They are a hard band to peg, with their revolving system of bass and rhythm guitar keeping the sound fresh and constantly changing. Their song “What Up World” was the definitive song of the set.

The Bad Thing (from Staines) are a tight, experienced rock n’ roll unit made possible by 5 young men with a passion for music.

Best thing about their gigs is you don’t know what you’re gonna get from ‘em till you get there, they like to play to new people, we’ve songs of good times, bad times, songs about you and songs about me, so go down and take a listen, you never know, you might be humming their tunes on the way home

They’re also playing at the Purple Turtle in Camden Town on 22nd June in BoB Round 2. Cheer them on!

Innocent Enemies are a four-piece indie rock band originating from the Hounslow area.

The band formed in 2004 and with only a few original songs and a couple of well known covers began gigging in local venues. Towards the end of 2004, the band decided to focus on original material and quickly recorded their first demo at No Stairway Studios, Teddington. The demo contained live favourites Angel Eyes, Is London Listening? and Cavalier. It was through this demo that Innocent Enemies were able to secure a gig at Camden’s Purple Turtle, where they headlined the event.

In late 2006 the Innocents decided to take a break in order to focus on other projects. However, in late 2007 the band reformed with new songs, a new attitude and a clear vision of where the future will take them.

Michael Messer is a virtuoso slide guitarist who has one of the best bands performing some of the greatest blues tunes produced this century. His playing encompasses the entire history of the blues but is totally individual and contemporary. His use of turntables in the band adds a new element to the music and Messer’s haunting vocals ooze authenticity and integrity. The American magazine, ‘Spirit’ listed Michael as one of the greatest slide guitarists ever alongside Duane Allman and Ry Cooder.

Michael Messer was born in Middlesex in 1956. Throughout his childhood and teens he played rock music with his two brothers and in various local bands. In his early twenties, Messer spent time in Nashville where he had the chance to meet and hear
some of the ‘greats’ of country music performing in their home environment. These included Roy Acuff, Hank Snow and Johnny Cash. Back home in England in the late seventies, Messer was mastering the art of Mississippi delta blues slide guitar, buying his first National steel guitar in 1979. He began playing blues gigs, both as a solo artist and in various local bands in the early eighties.

With Michael’s soulful voice & brilliant slide guita playing; featuring the unique Louie Genis ’scratching’ with ancient blues vinyl & Ed Genis on rhythm guitar, this trio rocked its way through one & a half hours of the best & most original blues I have heard in a very long time. Highly original, totally unique & very catchy.

Whatever happened to the golden age of flying? When ladies always wore heels and gents would smoke cuban cigars… and you could sit in the cockpit sipping champagne with the captain…before joining him in the mile-high club.

Now all you get is a long queue through security, a meaningless video presentation, a cheesy pasta meal you have to eat with a bendy plastic fork and a rude and rough looking ‘bird’ giving you the evil eye if you dare to ask for another pillow.

Pam Ann brings it all to you in this witty, sexy and very rude show … the highs and the lows, the good old days and the not-so-good present age of flying.

Pam has toured with Cher and Elton John and is described as ‘cruelly funny’.
