I found this beauty reclining outside a thrift store in Moab, UT. I’ve been looking for a bike, and when I took a closer look I knew we were destined to find each other. We were both, in fact, made in the year, in the same small part of this globe. To top it off (and not to cheapen her any) I was able to talk $45 off the price.

She still does not have a name. Any ideas?

Its a conceptional project about a bike parking system for the city of Copenhagen.
Its obvious that environmental friendly bike transportation is very common in Nordic countries, especially in Denmark. 36% of trips in the Denmark are made on a bicycle.
The project combines solar panel systems in bike park. The solar energy system is integrated within the structure with solar panels and energy generation station.
As Copenhagen is getting 1630 hours of sunshine per year, the solar panels are capable of generate electricity for infrastructure elements like street lights or traffic lights.

Ele veio de Lages, mas é em Balneário Camboriú onde corre com sua pequena bibicleta BMX, treinando para as competições nacionais. O atleta de BMX Marlon Maciel, 25 anos, da equipe Nova Era, é atleta desta modalidade bem curiosa: são corridas e manobras com bikes muito menores do que as convencionais. No início deste mês de novembro, ele conquistou o título de vice-campeão brasileiro e campeão Catarinense da Confederação Brasileira de Ciclismo.

Marlon começou nas pistas em 1997 e até o ano de 2003 participou de vários eventos e competições, mas como na maioria dos esportes radicais, o patrocínio e o incentivo deixam a desejar. Depois de cinco anos sem competir, Marlon voltou com todo o gás e sede de vencer. Este ano ganhou o vice-campeonato nacional na categoria 17 mais, competiu com atletas com o melhor perfil, os mais novos e mais ousados, e ainda assim conquistou a vice liderança. Apesar das conquistas, Marlon ainda tem dificuldade para conseguir patrocínio.

Hello Everyone,

Monday means time to catch up, and it’s a little hard to stay inside on the computer when it is beautiful outside. The new gondola here in Sun Valley is spinning, meaning people are in garages waxing skis and already telling tall tales! Last weekend as most of you know, there was an encore showing of Race Across the Sky in Boise. I wanted to share some photos from last weeks fun.

I threw the party at G Fit Studio where my mechanic Jason holds court along with exercise physiologist, Corey Hart.  Fearing no one would show up for the party, I did a media blitz in Boise with an appearance on the Channel 7 evening news.  I also did a radio spot with the most listened to morning show in Boise, 94.9 The River.  That was topped off with a great story in the Idaho Statesman newspaper. I also cruised around to local bike shops and coffee shops and putting up flyers and chatting with local cyclists. The response has been great from these little, more personal shop visits and the fans are loving it!

The plan worked and over 100 people jammed into G Fit Studio to eat, drink and get prepped for the Race Across the Sky movie showing.  We spent a couple hours mingling over food, Red Bull, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Prosecco.  I hosted a free raffle with three tables full of great products from SRAM, KT Tape, Suunto, Light and Motion, Hammer Nutrition, Hydrapak, Skins compression tights, Smartwool, Smith Optics and Buff.  Free food, free drink and free gear!  Everyone seemed very happy!

After the party, the crowd moved over to the movie theater.  This was the 2nd showing of Race Across the Sky in Boise.  The first showing sold out and this one was no different.  I was glad that I had purchased 10 tickets online for myself and a few others.  It was actually oversold and a few of us ended up sitting on the floor to watch the film.  The Boise cycling community is super active and it was great to here them cheer when I came onto the screen.  It was a great night and the film gets me fired up for the 2010 bike racing season! Thanks to everyone who helped with the Boise movie event, especially Jason Bauer at G Fit, Shea Andersen and Outside Media. You are all awesome! – Reba

Only John and James ventured out on this initially chilly Sunday morning.  However, the sun soon started to appear and the morning turned into a beautiful autumnal day perfect for riding.

We headed out from Harrogate towards Knaresborough, and out onto the Boroughbridge road before turning off through Scriven and Lingerfield.  It was then onto a familiar route to Farnham and Staveley and up towards Boroughbridge.  Just after going over the A1 we turned off to Arkendale and headed down through the Dunsfords, Ouseburn, Whixley and Cattal at a fairly steady pace before eventually stopping in Wetherby at the Shambles Tea Rooms for a well earned coffee.

After leaving Wetherby we headed for Kirk Deighton, before turning off to Spofforth and returning to Harrogate via Follifoot and Rudding Park.  The ride was a nice and easy flat ride which ended up being 43 miles in total.

Is Contador riding a vintage Schwinn in the Tour?

Not so fast, says Brother Fran!

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador has signed a contract to ride Specialized bikes for the coming season.

That would now appear to be news to Contador’s brother, mechanic and financial advisor, Fran. “That’s incredible. It has nothing to do with reality. I don’t know what’s behind this leak,” he said. “It surprised me that this news made it into a lot of important media outlets without any foundation at all.”

Specialized, Trek, Colnago and Pinarello have all confirmed making bike offers to Contador. The latest rumor making the rounds has Schwinn raising the stakes even higher with a plan to supply the Spaniard with vintage 70’s yellow Schwinn Varsitys.

The famous Schwinn 10 speeds were stored in a warehouse in Mississippi and are in perfect working condition according to a source who has inspected them. “They look like they could still fly — them tires need pumping though,” said Elmer Wilkins, a former warehouse employee.

“Indeed, this proposal has been made,” said Contador’s brother. “It is a rather appealing offer. We will examine it carefully from a sporting perspective. If Alberto wins the tour again on a 35 year old bike, there will be no question who is the champion.”

I have had a little blog dip. Since nobody was reading or even visiting my blog I doubted the use of it. But I’m back, thinking that just writing my everyday contemplations and experiences is good enough use for me!

My bike got stolen. That’s the thing that goes together with students in a city: bikes get stolen. Ok, if you didn’t lock your bike it’s your own fault, but this time I was pretty angry since it was locked with a good lock unto a bar. After lots of searching I found my lock cut into two! That is already the 3rd bike in the 3 years I’m here. Once your bike is gone you experience how much you rely onto it! Now I have to walk everywhere or take hot, crowded trams. Luckily K. was there to lift me above materialistic pining and said “look at it this way, at least you are not sick and still alive”. That’s the favorite of Ghanaians, or at least the ones I know. One day my hostmum sat me down and asked if I prayed. She said I should since it is a miracle everyday that you wake up and nothing is wrong with you, that you are still alive and not sick. So that got me into perspective again! But it still sucks. Another thing is that I saw one of my previously stolen bikes locked with an even bigger lock to a tree. I was astonished! How can you park your bike at the same place you stole it! I went to the police but they couldn’t cut it open for me since I didn’t report it at the time… Next day it was still standing there, so to tease whomever driving with it I wrote a note to say that it was my bike and that I would need it back. Haha! Not that I’ll even hear from it…

These yellow tourister bicycles cannot be mistaken, they belong to a local shop in Old San Juan named Rent the Bicycle. They offer tours on bikes in northeast Puerto Rico, as well as just bike rental to get around San Juan, you can rent them for 3 hours or you can rent them for days. que a prefeitura de Curitiba não está nem aí para a bicicleta não é algo novo. É notícia reforçada a cada semana. Só pra dar um exemplo na semana passada o prefeito apresentou o projeto de reformas da Av. Cândido de Abreu. Pra variar, nada pra bicicleta. A lei orçamentária que será votada no início de dezembro não prevê um tostão para ciclofaixas! Ligar para o 156 funciona? Se o que eles chamam de democracia é ficar apertando botõezinhos pode ser. A sugestão é pressionar os vereadores para que insiram $$$ para as ciclofaixas. A pressão é agora.

Democracia e demagogia se confundem na política destes sujeitos. E a bicicleta é pra brincar, não é mesmo? É uma brincadeira pra jovens, estudantes, operários e todos aqueles que não precisam ´da agilidade´ do automóvel, como disse o prefeito no Dia Sem Carro deste ano.

Enfim, como se não bastasse tudo isto a multa da ciclofaixa, de acordo com a procuradoria, não será anistiada. O prefeito bem que gostaria, disseram eles, mas não pode abrir o precendente! Sabemos disso . . . faz quase 14 anos que o jovem Beto está mergulhado no poder municipal e bem que gostaria de fazer alguma coisa pra bicicleta. Ah, existe o Pedala Curitiba . . . um passeio nas noites de quinta . . . que coisa bonita! Estímulos pra a bicicleta como meio de transporte são inexistentes. Campanhas de educação e respeito ao pedestre e a bicicleta idem. Ciclofaixas, só as piratas mesmo!

Vamos coletar este dinheiro da multa de forma coletiva e pública. Contamos com a participação de todos. Não queremos que apenas uma pessoa ou instituição monopolize esta coleta e estamos aceitando doações de R$5 a R$300. As colaborações podem ser feitas no Govardhana Yogashala (Rua Augusto Stresser, 207) no horário comercial, ou através de depósito bancário (Banco do Brasil – CC. 39812-8 / Ag. 0009-4).

As três multas somadas chegam a quase R$3000. A dívida ativa rende mais que a poupança! Só com este valor daria pra fazer 300 metros de ciclofaixa. Se contar os honorários dos procuradores que negaram os nossos dois recursos, afirmando que o que fizemos foi sim um ato de pichação e vandalismo, dariam alguns kilometros a mais de ciclofaixa na ´capital dos patrícios´.

O dinheiro arrecadado será depositado em juízo e uma ação judicial será iniciada contra a prefeitura de Curitiba por danos morais e omissão e desrespeito ao Código de Trânsito Brasileiro, que afirma que é obrigação das autoridades municipais instituir a estrutura cicloviária da cidade.

Screw you; toronto drivers.  Pay attention.

So, I almost got hit by a car driver on Friday.  I rang the hell out of my bell, and my headlight is blinding, but she still turned left across my lane and nearly provided a terrible t-boner for me.  Luckily I was able to swerve with her into the road she was driving onto.

I yelled ‘W H A T    T H E    F * * *!!!!????!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!’  She barely put up her hand to say sorry or even acknowledge how close that was.  Then I nearly collapsed over the front of my handlebars and screamed at the top of my longs ‘ ‘AAAUUUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!’ 

Now, I feel like I’ve pulled a muscle just below my sternum.
