5. You never have to pay customer support to figure out why your website isn’t working.

L: How annoying is it to call customer support all the time to try and fix your website, computer or anything else on the internet? Do you know what DHCP or HTML means? Me neither, but that’s why you have a geek boyfriend/girlfriend. 24 hour support ’round the clock style, and the best part is that you’re not on hold for 2 hours! Hallelujah!

B: No doubt. A few back massages and some “special attention” and there’s no need for you to call Kansas… and be re-routed to India.

I wrote a post with Bill Cammack on Top 10 things to NOT do on Valentine’s Day…..whether you hate the holiday, love it or don’t even think it should be considered a holiday, check out the post!

Here’s a preview:

6. Don’t *NOT* send her flowers at work

L: You see, there’s an unspoken game that goes on at everyone’s work on Valentine’s Day. It’s called “My boyfriend/husband loves me more than yours does.” When the flower guy comes to deliver flowers, all the women’s heads shoot up thinking, “I hope they’re for me.” Of course, if you’re the person that doesn’t get flowers on Valentine’s Day, everything thinks, “She must be in a fight” or “He must not really love her.” You want your girlfriend to feel like the most special girl every and everyone to envy her at work. Then she’ll win the game. That’s how it works. And if you can’t afford $100 flowers (because that’s how much they cost on V day) then buy some from a flower shop and have your friend (who no one in her office knows) deliver them. Throw in a cupcake and your’re golden.

B: I was going to say this one in my five. This is EXTREMELY CRITICAL. First of all, you HAVE TO send them to her job. Second, you HAVE TO send them EARLY, so her girlfriends sweat her all day while she feels comfortable and loved and NOT ANXIOUS as far as whether she’s gonna get hers before the whistle blows @ 5pm. Third, like Lindz said… Go BIG or Go HOME!!! If you can’t shell out the ducats for the flower shop action, go to any ghetto area and look for a store with a fruit stand. Roses will be either $1 per or $2 per. Either way, $50 or less gets you two dozen long-stemmed roses, wrapped. Get your boy to deliver them and get ready to be treated like a *KING* after she gets out of work.

Ever since I can remember, I have been giving advice. On anything and everything. When I was in college (sans boyfriend) fraternities would have me come and speak to them about relationships. Why? I don’t know. I guess I just liked to talk. And apparently I give funny and pretty fool proof advice with no frills.

More recently Bill Cammack and I have been posting about relationship advice from both male and female perspectives.

Yesterday I attended TWS2008, and moderated a panel with a bunch of smart people:

Lior Zoref, head of digital marketing in Microsoft Israel (yes, he works for MSFT, but we still love him)

Oded Kramer, Content Development Manager, Ulpaney Herzeliya

Eyal Magen, the co-founder of Gigya, one of the most succesfull widget platforms worldwide

The panel, which started in a fairly standard and quiet manner, quickly became a heated debate between Oded, who claimed that social networks didn’t have the magnitude required to make them a worthwhile venue for the TV industry, to Eyal and Lior who defended their turf by saying that TV is not conversational and belong to the past.

This debate compelled me to show off my latest purchase in the video department – a shiny new Canon HV30, that with the Rode Videomic is a great tool for quick and dirty video sessions, in full HD (Thank you Bill for the recommendation!)

i love unconferences because i usually run into cool folks doing interesting things quietly on and off of the radar. i was not disappointed this weekend when i attended the second day of podcampnyc (april 25 and april 26) at polytechnic university in brooklyn, nyc.

i enjoyed john herman’s presentation on using multi-media in school. the most interesting part of the lecture centered around challenges faced when attempting to integrate popular, feature-rich web applications in the classroom; often due to “i don’t get it” attitudes by administrations in youth-serving entities including public schools and libraries.

perhaps my favorite presentation was the very last session i attended. hip hop association presented a podcast demo using us, the audience, as the live recording guinea pigs (in a good way). it seemed most people were familiar with how to create a podcast, but it was a fun activity.

personally speaking, the most interesting portions of dialog came after the “official” recording. for instance, we all noted the unusually large presence of black, tech-savvy entrepreneurs, connectors and activists in attendance (at least for the session), which too often seems lacking in respectable numbers at similar conferences. post-dialog interaction touched upon the one laptop per child initiative, open source, equity investing in black-owned enterprise, social enterprise, community development and incubation. of course, given the sean bell-shooting verdict had been released the previous day, there were discussions around viable solutions in addressing community concerns through the resources we already provide or could be created.

a very unassuming, humble and baby-faced bill cammack recorded the session which is available here. thanks bill!

Just a quick blog post today with a couple of links I’d like you to look at – one especially, the others are merely cool and funny.

I’ll start with the important one though. I’d like you to look at this if you can spare 15mins. I’ve had a link to Christian Payne’s website over on the right (OurManInside) since I started this blog but I’ve never really talked about his photography or other activities. Now, however, he’d like to have more publicity for his latest project and I’m more than happy to oblige.

In mid-January 2008, with the support of the United Nations High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR), Christian travelled to Amman, Jordan to photography and record a few Iraqi refugee families trapped in a no-man’s land; asylum seekers, looking for refuge, too afraid to return to their blood-soaked country.

Please visit OURMANINSIDE.com and watch the video. It’s under 15mins long so you have no excuse, really. Watch it while eating a banana or a sandwich if you must.

Secondly, in a completely different train of thought. Pop over to Stephen Fry’s website and download his latest podgram. It’s about dancing and never before have I found myself listening to a podcast with such a degree of enthusiasm. I found myself agreeing with nearly everything he said about his detest for dancing. Listen to it, it’s utterly fabulous. A bit like Kate Beckinsale, but funnier – as far as I know. Does she dance or like dancing? Hmm.

Lastly for today, I Stumbled a fantastic website last night about temperature. It’s a sliding scale which takes you from absolute zero all the way up to planck temperature with information in between for varying temperatures. It’s entitled “A Sense of Scale” and can be found here.

Enjoy!
