O sucesso foi tão grande, que eles já estão na terceira edição.

Os expositores de amanhã serão a base-v (posters e camisetas), debora gotlib vintage (tocados), iamana (camiseta e posters), luciana araújo (camisetas, posters e acessórios), nuvem e subnuvem (roupas e acessórios), suppaduppa (camisetas e posters), tati schmidt (broches, bolsas, chaveiros) e yeti (cadernos).

Nós já afirmamos por aqui que a quinta é a nova sexta-feira. Tá lembrado?! Pois é, parece que todos os eventos (o mais bacanas, claro) ao nosso redor estão sendo agendados para a tal da quinta. E tá difícil de administrar.

O esquema, na minha opinião, para esta sexta é reunir uma turma de poucos e bons amigos na casa de um deles e arrasar na colocação, conversinhas, fotos e se animar muito, se jogar na rua. Eu já tenho o meu esquematizado, chez Fiães! V.

O Sepultura será a primeira banda brasileira a participar do projeto ICON (International Cooperation Network – Creation Through Cooperation) da Billabong.

I didn’t want to miss the boat, so, since I’ve read a bunch of other blogs about what people will be geared up with this winter, I decided to hop on the train.

The Sessions Jacket is a really good lightweight jacket with solid waterproofing and breathability, plus the colourway is super sick.

The Billabong Jacket is a little bit heavier and better for colder conditions. I’m a big fan of the styling on the pockets, but it still frustrates me how the hip pockets are angled an unnatural way so you can’t put your hands in them to keep warm.

The Westbeach Pants are new this year, and I’m a huge fan of the cut and the styling accents on the pockets. Plus, it’s a Canadian brand, so you can’t go wrong.

Now I adore shoes, I wouldn’t quite say they’re my raison d’etre but very close. It all stems from my mum who has probably a good 80-100 pairs of shoes, all kept in their boxes with descriptions on the front so she can see quite easily what & where they are. In direct contract to mine which are shoved in wardrobes, under the bed, under the wardrobe, behind the sofas, in a shoe hangy-uppy thing from Ikea, thrown around the bedroom/kitchen/lounge etc. I have a lot of shoes too. Probably getting on for 50-60 pairs. No Imelda Marcos but still a fair few.

I started buying shoes when I first put on weight. I couldn’t wear the clothes I wanted so I reflected my tastes and personality through my shoes. I wear very sensible, flat, black, boring shoes for work but at weekends and when I go out I love bright colours, wedges, heels, anything that stands out a little bit. My current favourites are silver snakeskin wedge sandals with black straps from Next for night and flat green sling backs with a wooden red ladybird on the front from Office about 7 years ago.

I buy shoes I know I’m not going to wear just because I love them (I’ve stopped doing this though now due to leack of funds). I have a sparkly pair of bright pink stilettos with purple piping that I fell in love with in the Schuh sale and had to have even though I knew I wouldn’t wear them. A pair of green knee high boots that look like Peter Pan boots from New Look. And these. My beautiful red, spotty, Irregular Choice heels with a toadstool on the front (main pic). I wore these to the pub once, crippled myself and now just wear them in the house and look in the mirror at how exquisite they are. I hate my feet but feel it necessary to adorn them in beautiful creations (preferably that show off my tattoos) for my viewing pleasure. I love to wear my Dorothy shoes (bright red glitter, pointed toe) from a cheap shop in Bolton, my ’special needs’ shoes as my sister called them, (flat white Mary Janes with pink pelicans all over them) from Office, my 70’s shoes (7 inch wedges, the front wedge alone is 2 inches! in brown suede with a bow) from Moda in Pelle. Any colour, any kind, any shop, any price. I love them all.

If money was no object I still don’t think I’d buy designer shoes. Occasionally I’ll lust after a pair of Jimmy Choos or Ginas that I see on celebs. I have fallen for the YSL Tribute pumps (thanks to Grazia for introducing me to these completely out of reach lovelies) but the shoes that get me going every time are Kurt Geigers. We have a KG shop 5 minutes from work which is just mean. I go and drool over shoes I can’t afford but that make me want to cry they’re that beautiful.

I don’t mean to wear strange coloured or designed shoes, I’m not projecting my ‘wacky’ personality, I just like bright colours and interesting shoes that few others do. My sister was moaning in Australia that she didn’t have shoes to match a new outfit my parents had just bought. I offered to GIVE her my much adored brown, studded gladiators from Next and she said no! She hates my shoes, favouring classic black sandals, Billabong flip flops (which I am admittedly converted too) and the ubiquitous crocs for work.

I’m struggling to find one pair of shoes that fits my personality. I have a number of guises for which different shoes are needed, mummy (black studded ballerinas), employee (boring black patent Mary Janes from M&S), student (my beloved cherry print Birkenstocks), wife (sensible  grey heels from M&S), friend (knee high black boots), piss head (any high wedges that are totally impractical but look fabulous!). Many Next shoes (my current favourite supplier) reflect my personality, especially these but if I had to choose 1 pair I’d go for these classic Kurt Geigers that I be thrilled to own.  They’re lovely, deceptively comfortable, slightly offbeat, stable and surprisingly cheap. Rather like me.

At Nugable breaking news isn’t really our modus operandi but as far as I know we are first on this one. Details are still a little sketchy but according to my  source Australian surfwear giant Billabong has purchased Swell.com.

Over the years, Billabong has built quite the dossier with brands like Element, Von Zipper, Honolua Surf Company, Kustom, Palmers Surf, Nixon, Xcel,  Sector 9 and DaKine brands all under its corporate umbrella.

No financials have been disclosed yet and it’s unclear what this means for the 10-year-old online and catalog surf retailer, but one can only assume they will no longer sell non-Billabong brands. Additionally, the timing is curious, since most retailers make or break their year during the holiday season.

One thing is for certain, they should have a large selection of flannel.

Right now, I seriously have a problame with anyone aged 8-12 and are boys. What is with these little retards walking around thinking that the f’n own the place, with there budget hair-cuts and their t-shirts that all say billabong. They are always swearing, which i’m alright with if it’s ANYONE ELSE. When it’s a baby/toddler/old person, it’s hilarious. When it’s a teen or adult, it’s fair enough. When ITS A LITTLE WHINY PRETEEN, IT ANNOYES ME CRAPLESS. They all look the same, all do the same things, and all they’re all little try hard gangstas, always ‘hangin with der homeboys’. D<.

And then there are the 8-12 year old girls. MY GOD. WHO ARE THESE PARENTS. They are all make-up wearing, beyond underage little… bogans, really. They wear mini-skirts and tank tops, they all have phones, they all have a bf, even though their 9  (?) and are always using their phones. WHO ARE YOU CALLING? YOUR MUM? REALLY?

Anyhoo. My point is, back in my day (less than three years ago….) 10 year olds didn’t have phones and wear makup and act like there heaps gangsta.

After four hours of surfing on a cold, gray November morning nothing satisfies those chilly bones like warm flannel. Nothing.

It’s a little-known fact Kurt Cobain did not kill himself over depression or drugs. It was flannel. You see, he was out drinking one night with Dave Grohl. Over whiskey they complained of the flannel phenomenon they launched. Kurt told Dave that night “if I see one more asshole wearing a flannel, I’m going to kill myself.” Dave thought Kurt was joking. The rest is history.

When did Old Navy start designing Billabong ads? Leave it to Billabong to make their franchise surfers look like gay lumberjacks.  Really Billabong? You are so much better than this.

Mammoth Mountain had their official opening weekend festivities this past weekend and as expected it was a great time. Guitar lessons, football in the street, Schatz sandwiches, and credit card roulette were staples of the 4 day trip. The riding was pretty fun and there was even some pockets of fresh snow to be had. All the homies rolled up and then we rolled up and then rolled out if you can’t make sense of that maybe this blog isn’t for you. I was particularly excited to check out the “I Am Snowboarding” art show which was held as a benefit for the Jeff Anderson Foundation. The show was really cool and I know some Frends who made outta there wish some sweet original art.

I believe this one can soon be seen in Mr. Auggire's household.

All in all the weekend was a good time for all and can pretty much be summed up in these two quotes.

So this weekend is Mammoth Mountains big kickoff weekend and while they have been open off and on for a few weeks now this is the “official” opening party. There’s some ski movie and DJ tonight(whoop dee doo), tomorrow is when the real fun starts. Transworld Snowboarding’s video Get Real will be shown in the Village and then after everyone will mosey into Whiskey Creek and well, you can figure out the rest. After you complete your hungover day of riding with a thousand other hungover people on Saturday make your way to the Village once again and check out the I Am Snowboarding art show.

The show is about celebrating the life of Jeff Anderson one of the most prolific snowboarders of our generation who sadly passed away back in 2003. Jeff was a huge part of the snowboard community, the early 2000’s Mammoth scene, and a very talented artist. This show is sure to have some really cool work as it features pieces from over forty of the industries top artists. You can split your time between mingling with the artsy types and watching Mammoth’s new video Hot Laps which I know for a fact will feature some very very hot laps from talent like Mason Augirre, Greg Bretz and Tyler Flannigan. Of course there will be giveaways, beer gardens and more name dropping than one person should have to suffer but all in all I’m positive it will be a good time. Heck you might even go snowboarding while you’re there, I hear this Mammoth Mountain is pretty fun. See ya on the hill.

For you South Bay locals, here’s an event that’s close to home! Billabong and Beachworks have teamed up at the Del Amo Mall to bring you a one-night-only shopping experience! You know that jacket that Bella wore in Twilight? Billabong. Yeah. You know….! P.S. Boy’s stuff is on sale too… More event info here.

Once again Toyota contracted the masterminds at Street Image to produce a couple of vehicles for the annual SEMA show. Eric Valdes was given a Toyota Venza and a Toyota Camry Hybrid this year and here are the results of the builds.

The Toyota Venza, a staple of school carpools, morphed into a dream ride for extreme athletes at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show. The Toyota/Billabong Ultimate Venza is laden with gear for outdoor lovers, including a heated shower system, a custom roof rack and a hidden cargo rack that extends from the rear bumper for skis and snowboards.

While the curious can only ogle the custom Venza via photographs at this point, Toyota says the concept will be the official Billabong Team vehicle for use by surf-, snow-, skate- and wakeboard athletes. It will be displayed at upcoming Billabong events in the U.S. following the aftermarket show.

Street Image built the concept, adding a custom body kit with “Billabong” emblazoned on the side. Large Enkei wheels with Nitto tires and a TRD big brake kit round out the package. The cabin gets seats upholstered with wetsuit materials, while the headliner features a collage showing Billabong athletes in action.

Toyota says a Verizon Wireless access point router was installed, which lets athletes get up-to-date surf or snow reports. Other details include headrest-mounted LCD monitors, an audio system with 18 speakers and an iPod interface.

The Toyota Surfrider Camry Hybrid CNG is not going to be limited to the elite crowd at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show. Toyota said on Tuesday that it will provide a production version of the Camry that runs on compressed natural gas to the Surfrider Foundation. The organization is expected to use it for outreach campaigns, education programs and beach clean-up events.

The Surfrider looks distinctive and PC, with a vehicle wrap that features CNG and Surfrider logos. The car’s gas fuel system was replaced with a CNG system in the spare tire well. A viewing window shows off the CNG fuel cylinders.

Toyota says the Surfrider has a range of 250-plus miles and returns 32 miles per gallon in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway. The powertrain is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive.

The hybrid showcar gets a body kit with a custom front grille and unique rear bumper that covers the tailpipe and exhaust system. The ride height was lowered on an adjustable coil-over suspension. A set of 20-inch alloy wheels rounds out the package.

The nonprofit Surfrider Foundation was founded in Malibu, California.

Oct 25 – Aliwal North, Lesotho (Moorosi Chalets): Aussie Tim and New Zealand Sarah (The last couple) had someone try to get into their tent. Luckily they went to bed early and were in there. Crazy, crazy, CRAZY rain, thunder, lighting storm while entering Lesotho. So crazy that the water made the roads too muddy and dangerous to drive. We had to park on the side of the road to camp. No pitching tents. We all decided to slumber in Gunga (our truck).

Oct 26 – Malealea, Lesotho (Malealea Lodge): Rain go away!!! Drove through the Gates Of Paradise. Still in the storm. Hail the size of marbles hit us hard. Poor Gunga and her fiberglass roof…and our ears.

Oct 27 – Malealea, Lesotho (Malealea Lodge): Quazi sunny day. Rain teasing us for now. Skipped out on the pony trek through the landscapes of Lesotho. The next time I ride a horse’ish like animal is when RJ wants to experience it. Otherwise, not on my own terms.

Amazing local family village dinner with Meusi and his son Dohwa (misspelling the names). Thank you again!

4AM, thunder and lightning storms are back. Stayed up and watched the lightning from my tent door. Flashed bright every couple seconds.

Oct 28 – Drakensberg National Park, South Africa (Maahai Camp) – G’bye Lesotho. Last new country of the trip, however it didn’t want us to go right away. We got stuck in the mud. Shovels + pushing + mud + rocks + mud + locals + 2 hours = finally on our way. Drove through the Golden Gate National Park. Beautiful landscape.

Oct 29 – Drakensberg National Park, South Africa (Maahai Camp) – Raining again. Ugh! Will not be able to hike the Dragensberg National Park. Lame.

Oct 30 – Johannesberg, South Africa (The Backpacker Ritz of Johannesberg) – Final dinner with everyone at Moyo.

Oct 31 – Johannesberg, South Africa (The Backpacker Ritz of Johannesberg) – Official end of our tour. Sad.

Nov 1-3 – Johannesberg, South Africa (The Backpacker Ritz of Johannesberg) – Watched Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” and “District 9″. Visited Shopping Malls.

Skipped out on Kruger National Park due to multiple reasons.

Nov 4 & 5 – London, England (Sleeping at LHR): One day in London. Brilliant city. I want to move here.

Skate Wear

Skate wear is used to describe clothing brands that are popular on the skating scene. Skate wear and surf wear run hand in hand, because a lot of skateboarders and tend to be surfers. Since skateboards were designed by surfers to practice surfing on land, its not really surprising.

Both clothing styles are moderately similar but each serves it purpose individually for the needs of skateboarders and surfers. A popular skate wear brand is quiksilver.

Urban Wear

Urban Wear came about thanks to the influence of the hip hop and rap lifestyle. During the late 70’s and early 80’s hip hop and rap music started to emerge with artists like Run DMC and the Beastie Boys breaking into the mainstream. These artists were known for wearing baggy clothes, gold chains and Adidas shoes with the laces out.

These styles developed over time and with the rise in popularity of hip hop many artists started their own clothing labels. Those that had been inspired by these music styles also started creating clothing brands influenced by their favorite artists. This resulted in many urban wear brands like Armani Emporio, and Dolce and Gabbana.

I ran across the Quiksilver Cypher PS+ Heated Vest while reading about it in a Surfline article. It seems awesome! Basically, it is what it sounds like, a heated vest. Unfortunately they don’t harvest the power of magma to heat it, but it’s still a great idea. This isn’t the first heated suit idea, Ripcurl’s been doing it with their H Bomb wetsuit, and there’s other companies that are doing it too. The Cypher vest heats to a crazy temperature on high (130 degrees)!

It’s fairly cheap too, only $200. But I found a 6/5/4 for the same price from Billabong. With the suit at least all of your limbs will stay pretty warm, I don’t think you’d survive in a 3/2 with the vest on. I’m really tempted to buy it though. It seems like it’d be Shangri-La in the wetsuit with that vest.

Billabong clothing is a complete lifestyle and sports apparel company listed in the Australian Stock Exchange, after being founded in 1973.
