Erste Termine 2010

Wenn ihr jetzt konkrete Daten erwartet, muss ich euch leider enttäuschen. Wir veröffentlichen nämlich nur Termine auf dieser Homepage, sobald wir einen unterschriebenen Gastspielvertrag vorliegen haben und damit ausreichend Sicherheit haben, dass dieser Auftritt mit uns auch stattfinden wird. Aber ich plaudere an dieser Stelle einfach mal ein paar bandinterne Dinge aus: Unser Cheflogistiker Christian hat uns eine schöne Rundmail geschrieben, in der er uns vor vier Auftritten im Zeitraum von Mai bis Juli 2010 warnt. Jetzt dürft ihr spekulieren, wann und wo genau die stattfinden werden.

Neue Songs

Desweiteren üben wir natürlich fleißig Songs ein, damit wir euch bei den nächsten Auftritten mit neuen Sachen überraschen können. Nur soviel dazu: Billy Idol und Bryan Adams werden euch zum Schwitzen bringen. Solltet ihr Liederwünsche haben, könnt ihr uns diese natürlich auch zukommen lassen. Desweiteren haben wir ein neues Probensystem eingeführt, dass uns helfen wird Songs schneller und besser einzuüben.

Interviews mit Plan B

Da wir im Moment visuell wenig in der Öffentlichkeit in Erscheinung treten, werden wir dafür sorgen, dass ihr unsere Gesichter nicht so schnell vergesst: Voraussichtlich Mitte Dezember werde ich ein Video-Interview mit jedem Bandmitglied führen, welches dann auf unserer wunderschönen Website erstrahlen wird. Wenn ihr irgendwelche Fragen an irgendein Bandmitglied habt, die ihr euch bislang nie getraut habt zu fragen (gerne auch mit Namen und Wohnort), schickt diese bitte an peter@bandplanb.de. Ich werde diese Frage dann pflichtbewusst stellen.

An der School of Rock-DVD wird weiter hart gearbeitet. Unser Chefkonvertierer Loony genießt in dieser Sache unser vollstes Vertrauen.

Soundtracks, we all have our favorites and some of us refuse to acknowledge their existence all together. I, on the other hand, have a good relationship with soundtracks, depending on the movie/television show/web series it comes from. These are pretty good choices that I just happen to own, interested? Read on.

#A – Girl Interrupted.My first glimpse into WILCO, a lovely little band that may see a bit on the pretentious side but really have some amazing songs. One of those bands that make you love every song, sound, word, vibe. They start off this semi-depressing group of misfit songs that work well with the movie of the same description. Title works fantastic with the motif of this album, “How to Fight Loneliness”, this first glimpse was not the end of my relationship with Wilco, they are still alive in my soul to this day. This album also has one of the greatest bands and one of my favorite songs from them, Jefferson Airplane with “Comin’ Back to Me”, such a beautiful song, really beautiful is the one perfect word to explain this song, and most of their music as a whole. Other artists include, Aretha Franklin, The Band, The Mamas & The Papas. Take a listen why don’t you?

#B – The Craft.

Witches who just so happen to be a bunch of bitches, makes for a great soundtrack, well its more of a sentimental one for me with a couple good songs that make me reminiscent of the first viewing of the movie. Great pop song with Letters to Cleo’s “Dangerous Type” and some heavy grungy hate music with Sponge’s “All This and Nothing” and a surprisingly good song by Our Lady Peace with “Tomorrow Never Knows”, (you can tell I’m obviously not their #1 fan). A not so good cover of a Harry Nilsson song, Tripping Daisy’s “Jump into the Fire”, I’d rather” they have put the original but they never asked my opinion on the subject. Some other good jams, like Spacehog’s ”Horror” & Love Spit Love’s “How Soon Is Now”, but the gem is Matthew Sweet’s “Dark Secrets” which made me want to own it to begin with, it pleases the ear gods for sure.

#C – Jawbreaker

Yes, pranks that turn deadly mixed with pretty girls who look nothing like the regular high school student, proves great for a rockin’ soundtrack. (Plus, Julie Benz, a young vampire on BTVS, classic). Songs to get you pumped and sent back into the 90’s like a whirlwind. I’ll start of with the favorites, The Friggs ”Bad Word for a Good Thing”, those Frigg girls can belt and rock, plus rock while never becoming famous, some hardcore girl power going on with that song. The icing on the cake? Imperial Teen’s “Yoo Hoo”, again the reason I even wanted the album in the first place, an amazing jam with the most intoxicating sound, voice is prime on this one. Ending it out with one of the most depressing songs I’ve ever heard in my life, The Transisters “Flow”, its beautiful and sad and painful, if I ever needed to be heartbroken with a theme song, this is it. Having a bad breakup? Lost a person close to you? Listen UP.

#D – The Wedding Singer

Get ready for some 80’s! This soundtrack has the “good shit” from the 1980’s, and its a double disc-er! Unfortunately I only have one half the album but that’s alright by me.  The half I have has bands like, Billy Idol, David Bowie, New Order, Musical Youth, Elvis Costello, The Thompson Twins, The Police, Culture Club, The Psychedelic Furs, and so on. If your in an 80’s mood, then stick the sucker in and enjoy your weird flashback that ensues.

yeah, tricked you. I know its not a song, but Buscemi rocks.

#E – Garden State.

We’ve got some good ones on here folks. Of course their is the “what lead me to own it” song, which we’ll begin with. Frou Frou’s ”Let Go”, a very graceful sound and is a basic recap of the movie itself. Jump in, what are you waiting for? Date Natalie Portman, Zach Braff, just DO IT! But any who, next up is another great jam, that I didn’t come in contact until long after I had the Cd, but when a friend of mine did it in a talent show, another song full of beauty, Bonnie Somerville’s “Winding Road”, pretty voice meets pretty sound, good good. The entire beginning of this Cd gets me in a crazy odd mood, I used to listen to it on my Ipod walking through the halls of high school, very surreal. First, Cold Play’s “Don’t Panic”, and No, I am not a cold play fan or freak, its the only song I dig, so get over it. Following it, is The Shins with “Caring is Creepy”, great sound, goes right through to the bone. And after that? Zero 7’s “In the Waiting Line”, one of the other songs I am in love with on this soundtrack, a main reason you might as well just go out and get it right now.

#F – Once More With Feeling – BTVS

A musical episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer belongs on this list, if not dominating it. Joss Whedon, the entity himself, wrote the songs, music, all of it. Which would be good reason for me to love it so, and I do. Its addictive to the highest extent. These actors, just people, who yes, famous, but normal; not singers, (well not all of them, James Marsters, Amber Benson, & Tony Head), just people, made beautiful music together. I probably listen to it at lease a couple times a week. I don’t think I would have the power to actually say out loud, or type, my favorite song from this album. I’ll just go through most of them for you to decide.

So, we start with Buffy complaining shes lost her mojo for her job, we can all sing a long as the demons agree with her and she diss’s the gentleman in distress.

Then you’ve got a group jam with the gang, which turns ugly with Anya, the demon, yelling about bunnies, and ending with a who-even-gives-a-crap attitude brought along by sad-sap Buffy.

A song about Mustard being removed from clothing.

A lesbian love song between the 2 most believable, non-skanked-out-for-the-sake-of-MALES-everywhere lesbians on television ever, and probably will always be. You just gotta love Willow & Tara, for ever, and ever, and so on.

Then we have the couple, demon and construction worker, Anya & Xander, talking about the things they can’t stand about each other that they could never say out loud, without song of course, which leads towards the end with Anya “dancing crazy!”. You have to love a song  that has a line about penis diseases, classy.

One of great writers of the show finds herself singing about a ticket she’s getting for parking in front of a hydrant, which has become one of my favorites to sing in the car.

Then the addictive song of Spike, the whiny love ridden fool song, he even admits he’d be Buffy’s slave, talk about being whipped. Just let him rest in peace, Buffy. Just let him be buried and go get Angel to sooth the pain. Sorry…

Next, a snippet of dawn’s voice before she gets kidnapped, pretty voice while its lasts.

Pretty Ballet instrumental leads to the dancing demon, Sweet, singing out with his great deep man singing voice trying to hit on 15 year old Dawn, Hawt.

A big hit in my car sing-a-long, the Giles song, sad but upbeat and lovely, he doesn’t want to leave Buffy, but needs to, sweet slow-mo scene with some kick-ass dodging of sharp things while pulling off some gymnastic moves, go SMG.

Here we have 2 songs emerge which is a high on the list for me, putting together the two amazing voices of Tony Head and Amber Benson, wonderful actors and brilliant singers. Such a beautiful addition to the already amazing track listing.

Up next, everyone joins in while wanting to walk through the fire, another great song, with some awesome lines, “things are turning out so dark”, “No, I’ll save her then I’ll kill her!” &  “I think this line mostly filer”. The best part is when the scooby gang chimes in and does their little part, is the slayer too far gone to care?

Then us listeners get something to sing about, a glittering world, and a dancing almost-to-her-death Buffy ending with dropping the heaven bombshell.

And to help finish it off, sweet rubs it in all our faces that things didn’t quite go our way with the whole dancing thing, that lead to the death thing, and the “aw we all have so many secrets!” thing.

Ending with the cast leaving confused, not knowing where to go from there. And a big sloppy wet one from Buffy & Spike, which I wish i could scrub from my brain.

If you’ve never see the episode, watch it. If you’ve never heard the soundtrack, listen to it. You’ll have to track it down like I did, since the boyfriend and I bought the only 2 copies in our area. Plus, if your REALLY lucky, like me, you’ll get to take a trip to Indianapolis and watch actors act out the episode, sing the songs, and dance the dances, an amazing experience, especially on the night before Halloween.

#G – Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog

How shocking, right? Another Joss choice, you get my love yet? Do you? Do You? Well you’ll figure it out eventually. Now, this sound track is Uh-Maze-Ing, seriously. NPH (For the less hip folks, Neil Patrick Harris) really shows us the talent that Doogie never really did, he sings, and he sings well. Fantastically well to be exact. He’s a villain looking for his big villainy break, to belong to the big-bad’s club, that’s of course ran by a horse, derr. Then we have the love interest, with a killer voice, no other than the beautiful Felicia Day, (who if you don’t watch the guild, START, I’ll explain more later), the helpless-helping-homeless-home-giving goddess that the villain is head-over-heels in love with. But in walks the bad guy, wait no, the GOOD guy. He just happens to be a prick, with a picture of a hammer on his chest. But he is played by no other than the mystical, magical, stud-man-guy Nathan Fillion. The guy crushes of the world surround this guy, which makes it easy for your Felicia, “Penny”, to fall for instead. (sad). So with this comes amazingly catchy songs that, yet AGAIN, Whedon is responsible for, also making it a family affair adding brothers and a sister-in-law. This is another Cd that is found being played in my car multiple times within a week. You’ve GOT to get this soundtrack, like now, LEAVE, GO!

#H – Pick of Destiny

Okay, Tenacious D is the best band EVER. Maybe this statement is not something you would agree with, and if it isn’t, stop lying. Seriously you know the truth, they probably ARE the greatest band EVER, why you ask? Because they have it ALL. What other band can use curse words like poetry, I mean really, “Mother Fucker” never sounded so good. If you haven’t had the chance to gander at the power that is the D, its time my friends. My passion for the D is forever deep, I was hooked the first time I heard them, saw them, and inevitably fell for them. “The Pick Of Destiny” is a movie and an album, and both are glorious. Watching Jack Black and Kyle Gas for 93 minutes straight has to be an experience, and sir, it was. But, the soundtrack that came along? GODLIKE, truly amazing music, which is not surprising from this duo. Another album i could not possibly begin the misery of deciding the best song on it, so you will have to venture out on your own and taste the taste that is TENACIOUS D.

#I – Nashville

Great movie, wonderful soundtrack. Robert Altman is an amazing director and he did an amazing job on all the movies I’ve seen of his. They always have crazy relationships, and madness masked in innocence and he didn’t shy away from that with this one. Country singers, singing and crawling in drama filled situations; if you get a chance make sure to check this one out, i have a feeling you’ll be pleased if your in anyway cool, or hip, or happenin’ in the way I am. So rent it, steal it, borrow it, either way watch it, and make sure you listen to the songs you hear, it won’t be hard. I’ve leave you with a video of my favorite song from the movie that happens to be a great part of the film. Watch and aw.

Sábado passado assisti ao show da Vibe 8.0, banda legal que dispõe a tocar rock dos anos 80 de verdade. Digo isso pois já estou meio cheio de momentos “anos 80″ em festinhas com Superfantástico, Ilariê etc. 

Como recordar é viver, mando duas pérolas não-modinhas dos 80’s – uma nacional, outra internacional (como nos discos de trilha sonora de novela, lembram?). Depois de ouvir a segunda música, me digam: alguém com menos de 20 anos ainda sabe o que seria a sigla KGB?

Ecco. Son cose che mi sento dire TUTTI i giorni. Più volte al giorno. Perchè qualche rotella fuori posto evidentemente ce l’ho.

Ieri sera la mia mamma mi diceva che la colpa è pure un pò sua. Perchè mentre tutti gli altri bambini ascoltavano e cantavano le canzoni del Bimbo Mix e dello Zecchino d’Oro io andavo di Madonna, Billy, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin e compagnia cantante (è il caso di dirlo).

Una volta la maestra le chiese dove avessi sentito una canzone ” a lei sconosciuta”. Come se uno che va all’asilo dovesse per forza cantare solo il Ballo del Qua Qua e Siam Tre Piccoli Porcellin! Suvvia.

Questo accadeva mentre mio padre, mi metteva margherite dietro le orecchie e mi insegnava il saluto vulcaniano.

(ora non so più farlo).

E’ energica e va bene per questo venerdì’ di Novembre. La vita è meravigliosa ed essere un pò tocchi, è meraviglioso, too.

Last week: No… Glee… again…

Week before last: Our beloved Gleeks took a field trip to the World Series

Week before the week before last: Music solves everything until Sue gets ditched by her anchorman love and everyone gets slushied.

So! This week:

The Cheerios, sans Quinn, are hard at work on their new jump rope number. The fallen cheering star sits in the bleachers, dejected. Finn asks her what’s wrong and she hands him a bill for $685.

"It's not like finding a job is hard in this economy, you useless poor. Unemployment in Ohio, which is where we are, is only 9.7%, down from its June peak of 11.2%! If only you weren't so stupid and lazy!"

Then, Fobray fans forgive me, she pulls the ultimate bitch and tears Finn’s head off. Because he totally got her knocked up. Oh wait, that was Puck. Sorry, I forget.

She leaves the auditorium, because being off the team sucks. What happened to all that Glee support?

The creepy J-fro guy is interviewing Sue about the Cheerios, specifically, Quinn’s departure. Sue explains why she can’t have a pregnant girl at nationals and then she steals his tape recorder.

"I'm taking your tape recorder, rube."

Meanwhile, Will is trying to convince Figgins to pay for the handicap-accessible bus required to take all the Glee members—Artie included—to sectionals. Once again, Figgins is pleading budgets. Will has to find the money to hire the bus. Sorry Will.

Quinn is still getting doctor’s bills. And she’s still gnawing at Finn. Maybe she needs a new chew toy or something like that to cheer her up.

Will has the new song: “Defying Gravity” from Wicked. Kurt and Rachel are ecstatic, until Kurt finds out that he doesn’t have the chance to sing it. At least not the solo. Mercedes calls for a song suited to her “chocolate thunder.”

In more important news, Will has found the solution to the bus issue. Bake sale! Everyone, was flabbergasted at the school’s lack of funding, and they were quick to sink the holes in Will’s plan. It’s not that people have—in the words of Will—“stopped eating delicious, sugary treats.”

Brittany has something amazing to say about this:

“It’s not that… it’s most of us don’t know how to bake… I find… recipes confusing.”

And according to Finn, everyone is too busy with teen pregnancy. Artie gets put on the spot and he says it doesn’t bother him.

Cue Artie’s first solo song His version of Billy Idol’s “Dancing With Myself” is catchy, hip-swinging, and bouncy. He does some wicked wheelchair tricks down the hallway and we find out that he’s got a crush on Tina, who totally doesn’t notice him. Artie does some more really cool wheelchair tricks on the auditorium stage, where talent stalker Will watches him from behind the curtains.

Kurt asks to audition for the Defying Gravity solo. Will shoots him down and then admonishes the Gleeks for their treatment of Artie. Rachel says they didn’t think he’d take it personally, to which Artie replies, “You’re irritating most of the time, but don’t take that personally.” Good one, Artie.

So, in addition to the bake sale, the AV Club has wheelchairs for the rest of the Glee team  (what?). He also tells them: we’re doing a wheelchair number. Only in Glee.

Finn and Rachel figure out how much it sucks to be Artie in the lunch room and in the hallway. Finn takes some unnecessary hits to the head (seriously, guys, he can’t get much slower than he already is) and Rachel (initial victim of the slushies) becomes the first Gleek to be… mushroom-beef-noodled?

Ew

Meanwhile, Quinn and Puck are in the Home Ec room. Puck suavely hands her a whopping eighteen dollars. She hands it back and calls him an egg-head. When he denies this state of being, she fixes it with a literal egg to the head. Note: she looks happier here than she has at any other point in the series. They get into a cupcake ingredient fight and almost into what promised to be the possible beginning of a steamy make-out session when Finn walks in.

Sexy food fights, everyone has them.

“What the hell?” he says. I would have asked a few more questions, Finn.

In other news, Kurt is at his dad’s auto shop being spacey. His dad asks him what the problem is and Kurt spills about not getting to gender-bend the singing roles. At least they don’t have to worry about teen pregnancy. But Kurt’s dad finds this discrimination, despite his son being “as queer as a three dollar bill,” an outrage and goes to Figgins.

Will completely agrees. In the name of gender equality, the Glee club is having a Diva-off on who gets the solo. The judges? The rest of Glee club.

"It's on."

Rachel protests, as expected, and Kurt has everyone promise to vote for the person who sings the song better. Go Kurt. Rachel, as expected, is mad at Will for creating teaching moments that ruin her life. Has she not discovered that the world does not revolve around her? Her dramatic exit is hindered by the wheelchair, she smacks the doorframe on the way out.

Figgins is really happy about handicapping the Glee club. Will tells him about the lack of wheelchair ramps in the school. Sue, who is there for some reason, says they make people lazy. But Figgins has a different idea. Inspired by equal opportunity, he wants Sue to hold open tryouts for the Quinn’s slot in the Cheerios.

At lunch, the ‘cool kids’ are trying to sell cupcakes. Brittany lost her wheelchair and she’s hanging out with Becky, a mentally handicapped girl. [Ed. Note--Seriously, Brittany is so great. The Best.] Quinn manages to turn the lack of cupcake sales into another dig at Finn and his jobless state.

"Brittany's always cheating off her test papers."

On to Cheerio tryouts! Sue is confused, Will is supervising. Mercedes and Kurt try out: both are knocked down. They are followed by a couple on poorly choreographed girls, creepy Jacob, and Spiderman.

The last to be auditioned in Becky, who is trying to jump rope… badly. Sue stops her and the audience braces itself for one of her meanest, kitty-eating comments… that doesn’t happy. Becky is on the squad.

WHAT?!

Will feels the audience’s sentiments and immediately starts accusing her of less than noble intentions.

"What are you up to, sneaky person I do not trust?"

Finn and Puck are arguing about Quinn in the hallway, wheelchairs and all. In addition to calling his best friend stupid, Puck takes up on Quinn’s lead and starts getting on Finn’s back about his lack of job and baby money. To take care of a baby that’s not even his. They get into a minor bumper-wheelchair battle that turns into an all out brawl. Will breaks it up. Apparently Puck is just really stressed out about the bake sale.

At practice, Artie is trying to teach the club how to turn around in the wheelchair. Tina and Artie, alone, talk about why Artie is in a wheelchair. While a car accident has disabled his legs, he wants it clear that his penis is not incapacitated. D’oh!

Kurt is still practicing for the Diva-off. At the same time, his dad gets a phone call. The caller says “Your son’s a fag,” and hangs up. Kurt notices how agitated his dad is. Dad relays the phone call to his son and Kurt is left looking kind of guilty.

"Sorry Dad. Sorry for being who I am."

Finn and Rachel are in the rehearsal room and Finn is… fixing her wheelchair? Handyman Finn. Quinn storms in to ruin the fluffy, happy moment. Rachel attempts to flee, but fails because Hurricane Quinn needs a witness. She has a Past Due notice for Finn and hangs the future of their relationship over his head. He is devastated. However! Devious little Rachel has quite the plan.

Big (mind)wheels keep on turnin'

On a happier note, the bake sale is going well. Puck supplied the ‘recipe’ because he thought that the wheelchair bake sale was somehow going to give money to Quinn’s baby-fund. His secret ingredient? Marijuana.

"Just enough to give you a wicked case of the munchies."

Will is watching Sue tear at Becky while she learns to jump rope. He tries to confront her about the way she treats Becky. Sue tells him that he doesn’t know the first thing about her.

The Diva-off begins with Kurt who is… amazing. He is handing Rachel’s ass to her. [Ed. Note: I disagree. The song is in Rachel's is more in her "belting range" (whatever that is) and her voice sounds way stronger than Kurt's, whose falsetto I find offputting. Music! Art! Subjectivity!] Speaking of Rachel, we switch to her solo, and then it goes back and forth. They’re both belting it out. Chills. Chills. Chills. And then… Kurt fudges the note. He looks like he’s about to cry.

Looks like he fumbled the money note

Puck approaches Quinn in the hallway with a fistful of money. He then tries to convince Quinn that he’s the better choice. Quinn realizes that he stole the money from the bake sale. Bad Puck. She does the right thing and tells him to put it back. Good Quinn. Finn arrives on the scene and tells Quinn that he has a job and Rachel’s devious plan is revealed. I think the lines actually speak for themselves.

Rachel: Excuse me. Are you the manager?

Unsuspecting Businessman/Prey: Yes?

Rachel: You need to hire my friend Finn. He is clearly handicap able and refusing to hire him could be seen as discrimination. My dads are gay and unless you want the full force of the American Civil Liberties Union coming down on you, I’d work something out.

Bad Rachel. Bad Finn.

"Ain't I a stinker?" --Bugs Bunny

Thanks to Puck’s secret ingredient, Glee club has raised $1200 for the bus to sectionals. But, in a selfless act, Artie asks his fellow Gleeks if he could give the money to the school so a handicap ramp could be built in the auditorium. No one objects and you get this wonderful feel-good moment.

BUT!

Sue and her diabolical self just wrote Figgins a check for three new handicap ramps for the school. What?! Will is stumped and suggests that her erratic behavior is caused by a brain tumor.

Then we find out the Sue Sylvester is HUMAN. Jean, her older sister, has Downs Syndrome. I actually chocked up here. I couldn’t tell if it was from the shock or the tender moment.

Tina and Artie are on a date in the school hallway. Tina makes a move on Artie and then tells him that her stutter is faked. Artie gets really pissed and leaves her alone.

Kurt reveals that he blew the note on purpose, to lay low and minimize the painful calls for his dad. There’s a really touching father-son moment and I found myself tearing up again.

The show ends with the wheelchair number and Mercedes’ “chocolate thunder”. More chills. Artie, Mercedes, and Tina all have awesome solos. The song? The Creedence Clearwater Revival classic, “Proud Mary”.

Do you think Billy Idol is happy with his life? I’m not sure either way. I mean, it’s taken as a given that, say, Adam Ant almost certainly isn’t. If Adam Ant had retained, say, a tenth of the looks he had in 1981 he would be drowning in pussy to this day. As it is, he’s moribidly obese, bald and insane. Idol hasn’t changed much lookwise in the past 25-years (google pictures yourself, this is a filler post, we’re not doing actual research for it): still ploughing the leather and anime blonde hair spikes furrough. Did women ever find him attractive?

I have an offer to make though. Right now there’s a good ol’ fashioned titlefight going on between Weiss and Noz with Deej playing the Harvey Wippleman role. Joe Mofrad tapped like the late great Gregory Hines. The rest just Google themselves and gaze longingly at the shots fired (although it may be possible that someone other than Elisa Bray cares about what people are saying about Elisa Bray on the internet).

So look: we’re full of self-loathing right now. Open challenge: any UK music blogger of note, we are prepared to go to the mattresses against you. We’re probably one level away from cracking 1,000 a day hit averages for this site, we need something to go next level. You know the contact details.

Oh yeah, Glee: so after nine episodes they’ve finally given the AZN a personality, but in doing so have taken away any one that the black lass had and replaced it with a fat girl sassing people three times an episode. Well done all involved.

One of the great pleasures that comes with being an independent blogger (rather than being a corporate whore blogger) is being able to put the word “ass” in my blog title. It’s the little things. (I don’t have health insurance or a big paycheck, but I can say “assmunch” till the butt pirates come home, and that’s what gets me through the day sometimes.)

ANYWAY, sometimes I feel like an ass without a face while I’m modeling — and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I was feeling kind of puny yesterday, and wasn’t really in the mood for modeling, but duty called. I sucked it up and dragged my ass over to campus for a 3:30 p.m. class. I think the pre-modeling nap was a huge help; Prof. Mutton Chops having a couch set up for 20-minute poses of my choosing was clutch. He just wanted students to draw body parts, not me as a whole, so it was perfect for a sick chick.

My first pose was one I called “Dead Model on Couch.” I was comfortably reclined, with one arm hanging off the side. I closed my eyes and prayed that the music wouldn’t ruin the mood. Billy Idol, “Eyes Without a Face,” was the perfect kick-off song — and it only got better. Stevie Wonder. Paul McCartney. David Bowie. Spoon. Aqualung. Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Every song made me happy, relaxed, and less likely to puke. As I was getting into a new pose, one that would allow the students to draw my back and sweet ass, Prof. MC said, “Now, just focus on one part and make it really big.” This is when I perked up, turned my head slightly and said, “Um, not my ass, please!” Most of the class laughed. They got the joke, but somehow it was lost on the teacher. Really? Does any woman want to have a drawing of her giant ass on display anywhere? I know Sir Mix-A-Lot would love it, but me? Not so much. It’s just model humor, dude. I’m naked, my wit is my only defense.

I had to put my bare foot down when he asked me to pose upside down, with my legs propped on the back of the couch and my head hanging down to the floor. “Do you think you could do that?” he asked. Um, not so much. “Only if you want me to puke,” I replied. Just thinking about it makes me sick. I have sinus problems that can cause vertigo. Putting my head back like that causes horrible dizziness and sometimes fainting. I don’t want to be that model. I don’t want to be known as the model who fainted and was sprawled out naked for the EMTs, with no chance of proving that she did indeed have clean underwear without holes or tears. And that’s just my physical resistance to such a pose. I wasn’t even going to bring up the fact that he was taking the pose from “art model” to “pin-up girl” in less than 6.9 seconds. Not cool! I only pose that way for my friend Darla, because she is awesome and I know that she is only going to make me look sexy, not slutty. And no, that is not real fur.

La Femme ~ La Lyssa

We did this photo shoot on Wednesday, and she is still processing photos, but here is a sneak peek of what’s to come. I know I gush about Darla all the time, but she is really talented. Sure, I would kick her ass on the football field, but she has a magical touch with the vintage boudoir shots. To give you a little background on this last photo shoot, we were drinking Babycham and laughing our asses off the entire time. I was sprawled on my front stoop, running around in the rain, and feeling like a fool for wearing so much makeup — and look the results! Who would’ve thought that a super uncoordinated dork like me could be a model?

Nessa viajei, fui no mesmo avião que io Billy Idol e como ele não é americano, ficou parado na imigração junto com uma montanha de brasileiros, e na imigração não há 1ª classe. o homem estava puto de ter que esperar. Veio um garoto pedir autografo e o cantor pegou o papel, amassou e jogou longe. Falta de consideração com o guri.

Bem, Dancing With Myself foi uma das músicas que mais dancei quando era adolescente, era um clássico das festas, e se tocar hoje em dia, é capaz de ir pra pista, dançar… Revi a música esses dias num episódio de Glee, cantada pelo cadeirante do grupo. Ficou legal dentro da história e do personagem.

Isso me fez lembrar de outras versões da musica além da original de que gosto também. Uma delas, bem próxima ado cadeirante é a do grupo Novelle Vague que  roupagem antiga a músicas novas.

E para dançar, há tambem a versão do Bootamg Boys que acho bem legal. Dá vontade de sair quicando…

Não poderia deixar de colocar a versão original do Billy Idol, mas depois do que vi naquela viagem de avião,  não vou colocar o clipe dele no blog e sim o da maluca da cozinha.

“Fair is fair!”

I am a sucker for guilty pleasures and I’m sure for many the 1985 movie, The Legend of Billie Jean, falls easily into that category.  I hadn’t seen this movie since…  probably sometime in the mid-90’s and I found it on T.V. today!  I couldn’t help but love the Billie Idol hair that Helen Slater trades her Babysitter’s Club mane for and add some Pat Benatar… well, I was hooked.  Maybe it isn’t a great cinematic masterpiece but it was definitely a fun inspiration to stumble across.

SEXY MEN OF ROCK AND ROLL

I’m convinced that if I was born 30 years earlier, I would have been a groupie.  And if I was, these are the men I would have had my eye on, both for their careless good looks and god-like talent.

1. David Gilmour – There are no words. This is my definition of a rock god.

2. Jim Morrison – He may have been a little bit crazy, but I want to hear him recite poetry and run my fingers through that hair.

3. Jimi Hendrix: Aww, look at those dimples! And it doesn’t hurt that he’s pretty much the best guitar player ever.

4. David Bowie – I don’t care that he looks like a woman sometimes. His voice is like velvet and I adore him.

5. Roger Daltrey – There’s no harder, hotter body in rock and roll and he’s got a sweet set of…lungs.

6. Ted Nugent – He’s a redneck, yes and this photo also makes him look like a douche-bag, but the The Nuge can play guitar and he’s hot. 

7. Joe Strummer – His eyes are sad and beautiful and he has one of those  faces that I just want to take in my hands, and stare at.

 8. Marvin Gaye  - He’s not a rock star per say, but look how adorable he is! And I’d probably pass out if I’d ever heard him sing in person.

9. Frank Zappa – Strange choice I know, but Zappa is weirdly interesting and watching him shred shirtless is pretty amazing. 

10. Billy Idol –  Perhaps the most cliche rock star on the list, but you can’t deny his hotness.

Billy Idol has got great style!  Whether you like his music or not, you have to admire his unabashed and unapologetic approach to his life and his fame.  He openly admits to drug use, and has said he uses recreationally, but hasn’t ever been addicted to anything.  Again he states the truth, he chose to take the drugs, and whether he is dependent or not, he knows that he has the choice to take it or not!  Refreshing!  Whether he is or is not an addict is up for debate, and I really don’t care, it doesn’t affect my life, but you have to give it to a guy that is approaching 50 and still has six pack abs, and looks to be in better shape now then when he was in his twenties fronting for Generation X.

In the same way Billy Idol is in your face with his celebrity and is surprisingly unapologetic for a B-List celebrity, so is a whiskey that has come to be synonymous with singer…

Rebel Yell Bourbon is a wheat bourbon that is aged in oak for 5 years and is 80 Proof.  It is very light and looks like it really isn’t worth buying, but I thought that since I was doing a special series on wheat bourbons that I would pick it up, but wasn’t expecting much from it.  It was a bottom shelf offering and only cost $13.95 so if I didn’t like it, it wasn’t that big of an investment.

The nose on this whiskey was much more pronounced than I expected given its price and color.  It had some sweetness and some alcohol mixed with old leather and oak. Taking a sip was just as surprising.  It has good flavor, with sweet notes up front and then turning to a little old leather and char with a typical subdued wheat finish lasting about 45 seconds.  I wasn’t expecting this because of the overall color of this bourbon.  It is very light in color and gives the initial impression that it won’t be much on flavor or finish.

Neat

Very good neat whiskey.  Drinks well with a nice finish.

On the Rocks

Holds up surprisingly well to ice.  Cooling this whiskey brings out the old leather and oaky barrel notes on the finish, and shortens it.

With a Splash

This bourbon holds up surprisingly well to water with good flavor, but that is about all.  The finish is extinguished but the overall experience is that of a wheat bourbon.

Surprisingly this is a good wheat bourbon and a bottom shelf find!  I wasn’t expecting much, but this is good stuff.  Like Idol it keeps surprising, and is unapologetic. Try it, you’ll be surprised too.

1. If you’re going to say the same phrase twice, it’s better to say it first in French (“Les yeux sans visage“). It doesn’t just sound sophisticated and sexy (especially if sung by an ethereal female voice), it also hides the fact that you’ve run out of words for the refrain.

2. “Eyes without a face” isn’t only devoid of “human grace” but it’s also disturbingly lacking in mouth, teeth, chin, ears, cheeks, nose, forehead, etc.

3. Some people turn into slippery kleptomaniacs when they “hear the music” that compels them to “dip into someone else’s pocket then make a slip.” They also end up committing grand theft auto when they “steal a car and go to Las Vegas.”

4. Dropping acid while commuting on a bus can literally take you on a “psychedelic trip.”

5. Only hip people read murder books.

6. “Eyes without a face” isn’t just a “human waste,” it’s also a horrific freak show.
