My Photography in T&M Magazine #9, Pastels

I have some more exciting news! My photography has been featured in T&M Magazine #9, The Pastels Issue! This photo shoot has a delightful Princess and the Pea theme, and features models Roman and Melissa wearing (among other things) some of my clothing from One Delightful Day!

The issue is available for purchase in both digital and print versions online (www.tandmmag.com), and features a six page spread.

Princess-Pea photoshoot by Tyson Vick for T&M Magazine #9, The Pastels Issue!

The shoot was put together by a collaboration with textile artist Jamie Vowell. Jamie created the sets from her collection of fabrics, pillows and quilts. She drew upon the local antique market, Montana Camp Antiques and Boutiques, for mattresses and the bed frame. Jamie wrote a blog featuring making-of photos and outtakes from this shoot on her blog, Remnants, if you would like to take a look. She also did a post on the crowns used in the shoot!

Roman Fisher and Melissa posed as the Prince and Princess in garments by Armani, Felina, Calvin Klein and my own One Delightful Day. Roman’s own blog, “Built For Success” features many more images and outtakes!

Melissa’s beautiful fabric hair flowers were created for the shoot by Halsey Bishop and her shop Spunky Junky! Halsey has also written a post about her involvement on her own blog!

L’objectif des habitants est de s’engager dans la construction d’un nouvel espace collectif de logement sur le toit de l’immeuble existant. Dans l’ immeuble de base se retrouverait une salle de spectacle, des ateliers, des locaux de répétition et une habitation unifamiliale. La maison Biloba à Schaerbeek est un projet rénovateur de logement collectif pour personnes âgées fortement ancrés dans le quartier. Biloba, en tant que tel, ne devient pas un projet CLT, mais ceux qui en sont à l’origine ont déjà d’autres idées comme un projet de logement coopératif dans la lignée de l’action de Biloba, mais cette fois dans le cadre d’un CLT. Abatan, l’abattoir d’Anderlecht, a mis en chantier un masterplan pour le développement du site. La première phase, qui comprend notamment un marché couvert d’alimentation, doit être finalisé pour 2014. Nous examinons la possibilité d’intégrer des logements CLT dans ce projet.

ADHD Life: The right health supplements have helped me eliminate medication (so far) with acceptable results.

I had (“have” if we’re being really honest) such trouble in school that I’ve done a LOT of experimenting & research with natural supplements as alternatives to medication for ADHD. Recently I survived NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) and got my Journeyman ticket as an Electrician. To ensure I got through with the least possible trauma, fewest negative social interactions, and greatest control over my ADHD I kept up a pretty intense run of supplements for health in general, sleep, as well as ADHD control. It all plays a part but more on that another time.

Now that I’m working, I find the same problems arise over time but are less urgent and can be controlled with a more relaxed regimen. Here is what I have found works very well as a day to day “normalizer” of sorts. Unlike medication, this does not remove who I am from my personality, just helps me with the outward stuff that the rest of the world doesn’t quite recognize as awesome yet. I caught myself avoiding taking them, as if I were saving them or something. I started taking them again and I’m noticing an improvement almost immediately. We have to be careful of addictive behaviours, hoarding being one. They don’t so any good sitting on top of the fridge in their bottles. It sucks but, the fact is the working world (particularly trades) doesn’t care about personalities, different learning styles, impulse control, or whatever. You don’t get to be “different”. Discrimination is the norm, not the exception so it really helps to keep employed if I can keep a little more appropriate and balanced.

The Ginkgo Biloba, Omega 3-6-9 oil capsule, & BRILLIANCE supplement.

They tend to be best taken with food, though I’ve never had any interaction or issue with taking them while hungry yet. Many vitamins can make you feel anywhere from a bit off to uncomfortably sick if you take too much or on an empty stomach so I’m fairly careful.

The B100 compound (I don’t bother with any of the B75 or B50 stuff..) gives me a more even balanced emotional state. I find that it helps regulate my energy level so I don’t quite hit that crazy hyperactive high but get steady energy throughout my day. Even when properly hydrated, this stuff makes your pee bright neon yellow (like the stuff in glow sticks almost). Just a little advance warning, it’s kind of funny and a bit of a shock if you don’t know. Perfectly normal and we all could stand to drink an extra glass of water a day anyhow, so good reminder.

The Ginkgo Biloba is obvious, it helps with mental clarity, memory (short term recall is an issue with my ADHD at times) and regulates healthy brain function. It can’t hurt and it shows great promise to help.

The Omega 3-6-9 is a great all around supplement and provides my brain the essential fatty acids that most modern diets lack. The omega 6 & 9 are rarely found in our foods these days. In addition to being good for skin and hair, omega 3-6-9’s are important for brain health and are a key part in any natural ADHD regimen. Symptoms are reduced and normalcy improved. The cardiovascular and nervous system are affected as well as the brain.

Healthbalance is a Costco Brand. Though equivalents exist everywhere I’m sure.

BRILLIANCE is a bit of a special case. I came across it at COSTCO and really liked the ingredient list so gave it a try. It turned out to be quite a fantastic little product. It is quite affordable, and seems to be a good addition to my program based on what’s in it.

All of these are Made in Canada, carry various sourcing and purity declarations, guaranteed potency etc. These are all important when shopping for supplements. There is crap out there as well as gold.

Before bed I pop a Melatonin under my tongue and it helps quiet the brain chatter that gives me trouble at bedtime. I wrote a detailed article about a 2 week or so experiment with this product I had that ended with mixed results. I have discovered now that I work night shift it really helps me get a restful 6 to 8 hours sleep through the day.

Speaking of which it is after 7am now, and I am almost an hour past my bedtime. Interesting life this night shift business. As always I welcome all the input you might want to give me..
