Selama ini, bahan bakar fosil yang bersumber dari minyak bumi dan batu bara merupakan sumber energi utama untuk memenuhi kebutuhan energi tersebut. Permintaan masyarakat akan bahan bakar yang semakin meningkat ini menyebabkan terjadinya eksploitasi sumber energi fosil secara besar-besaran. Hal ini berdampak pada semakin menipisnya ketersediaan sumber energi fosil yang tidak dapat diperbaharui.

Konsumsi energi oleh masyarakat untuk menjalankan aktivitas sehari-hari, seringkali berdampak terhadap penurunan kualitas lingkungan sekitar. Efek pemanasan global yang semakin terasa akhir-akhir ini, salah satunya disebabkan oleh akumulasi berlebih dari emisi gas rumah kaca, seperti karbon dioksida dan sulfur dioksida yang bersumber dari gas buang kendaraan bermotor maupun aktivitas pabrik industri. Efek ini akan bermuara pada perubahan iklim global dengan peningkatan suhu rata-rata di bumi.

Masyarakat dunia telah berupaya untuk mencari solusi terhadap permasalahan energi dan lingkungan ini, salah satunya melalui penandatanganan Protokol Kyoto yang menegaskan tentang kepedulian terhadap alam sekitar dan aktivitas perekonomian dewasa ini. Hal ini mendorong eksplorasi sumber energi alternatif yang dapat diperbaharui serta ramah lingkungan, yang populer dikenal dengan istilah green energy. Menurut Prof. Thamrin Usman, seorang pakar biodiesel dari Universitas Tanjungpura, green energy adalah istilah yang digunakan untuk mengkarakteristik sumber energi yang lebih akrab dengan lingkungan, kurang polusi dan berasal dari bahan baku nonfosil seperti minyak nabati, biomassa, angin, gelombang air laut, sinar matahari, panas bumi dan lain sebagainya. Selain itu, dalam produksinya green energy dirancang melalui proses dengan teknologi yang tidak menimbulkan pencemaran lingkungan, tidak menggunakan maupun menghasilkan produk beracun yang pada gilirannya dapat membahayakan kehidupan manusia dan makhluk hidup lainnya. Green energy juga diyakini sebagai sumber energi yang tidak memberikan dampak terhadap kenaikan suhu permukaan bumi. Adapun contoh dari green energy antara lain: liquid biofuel (biodiesel dan bioethanol),solar cell, wind power, hydro power serta geothermal energy.

Eksplorasi energi terbarukan terus menjadi perhatian berbagai pihak di Indonesia, seperti kalangan akademisi/ilmuwan/peneliti, instansi swasta maupun pemerintah sebagai pembuat kebijakan. Hasil penelitian yang terkait dengan eksplorasi ini telah banyak dipublikasikan para peneliti Indonesia. Jika penelitian di laboratorium telah menghasilkan berbagai macam penemuan potensial, maka tahap selanjutnya adalah aplikasi sederhana menuju aplikasi skala industri sehingga manfaat eksplorasi ini dapat memenuhi kebutuhangreen energy masyarakat secara luas. Namun, tidak dipungkiri bahwa aplikasi energi terbarukan saat ini masih berhadapan dengan begitu banyak tantangan dan hambatan. Oleh karena itu, pada tahap aplikasi ini, sangat diperlukan adanya komitmen kuat dan sinergis dari berbagai pihak untuk mewujudkan serta menjaga kontinuitasnya. Selain itu, aspek alternatif yang dapat dijalankan dalam aplikasi energi terbarukan ini adalah kemandirian dan inisiatif dari peneliti terkait untuk dapat mengaplikasikan hasil temuannya.

Saya sendiri pernah terlibat dalam kegiatan terkait kampanye penggunaangreen energy bertajuk “Trans Java-Bali Biodiesel Expedition 2012” yang digelar pada bulan Juli lalu. Dalam kegiatan ini, kami berkolaborasi dengan teman-teman dari berbagai Universitas di Indonesia, Malaysia dan Laos antara lain: Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (Banten), Universitas Padjadjaran (Bandung), Universitas Diponegoro (Semarang), Universitas Udayana (Bali), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (Johor Bahru) dan National University of Laos. Ekspedisi ini secara resmi dilepas oleh Bapak Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan RI di Gedung Kemendikbud, Jakarta (3/7/2012).

Ekspedisi biodiesel merupakan agenda kegiatan yang dirancang dengan tujuan untuk mensosialisasikan (kampanye) penggunaan biodiesel sebagai salah satu sumber energi terbarukan kepada masyarakat luas. Selain itu, juga bertujuan sebagai wadah untuk saling bertukar informasi mengenai perkembangan riset khususnya pada bidang biodiesel di berbagai perguruan tinggi partisipan, melatih softskill dan keterampilan organisasi mahasiswa serta sebagai perwujudan eksistensi universitas dalam melaksanakan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi.

Agenda kegiatan ekspedisi biodiesel ini antara lain: konvoi armada bus berbahan bakar biodiesel (biosolar) dengan jarak tempuh sekitar 1400 km, Biodiesel Research Application dimana peserta akan menghitung dan mengkalkulasikan banyaknya penggunaan bahan bakar biosolar pada armada Bus ekspedisi sepanjang lintasan jawa-bali. Selanjutnya, digelar pula Seminar Biodiesel untuk mempresentasikan perkembangan riset biodiesel pada beberapa Universitas peserta, Biodiesel Talk sebagai wadah diskusi antar mahasiswa mengenai perkembangan isu-isu terkini terkait dengan sumber energi terbarukan, Biodiesel Mini-Factory Visit di UNPAD Bandung dan Factory Visit di Krakatau Stell Banten. Dalam rangkaian agenda ekspedisi ini digelar pula event pertunjukan budaya dan kegiatan sosial di sela-sela kegiatan ekspedisi, sehingga kegiatan ini merupakan sebuah kolaborasi dalam scientific activity yang terprogram. Melalui diskusi dengan rekan-rekan tim yang terlibat, dari ekspedisi ini lahir pula gagasan untuk memperluas area sosialisasi green energy kepada masyarakat. Kedepannya, kami akan berkolaborasi menggagas sosialisasi berbagai jenis green energy/bioenergy (tidak terbatas biodiesel)hasil eksplorasi dari perguruan tinggi kepada masyarakat luas maupun instansi terkait dan pemerintah. Selain itu, digagas pula kampanye kesadaran hemat energi kepada masyarakat untuk kehidupan masa depan yang lebih baik.

Hal yang penting dari gagasan ini adalah bagaimana menyemangati kesadaran hemat energi kepada masyarakat luas serta komitmen untuk terus berjuang dalam eksplorasi penelitian dan aplikasi energi terbarukan. Saya rasa gagasaan ini bukanlah inovasi baru dalam dunia energi di Indonesia. Setidaknya, melalui strategi kampanye, saya berharap akan adanya pemahaman baru dari setiap komponen masyarakat bahwa setiap pribadi adalah berarti sebagai aktor/aktris hemat energi, saling memberikan efek positif sesama ratusan juta lebih penduduk Indonesia, sumbangsih bagi kehidupan generasi manusia di masa kini maupun masa depan. With most base stations located in residential areas, there are several health implications that arise from the use of generators. Diesel fumes are carcinogenic and the generators are pretty noisy and there is the issue of carbon emissions.

The average carbon emissions from a litre of diesel is 713 grammes and 25 millions litres will produce roughly 17,825 tonnes of carbon dioxide a month. That is equal to the emissions produced by 3,495 cars.

The scary thing is that telecoms companies need more base stations to provide better services with Nigeria alone requiring about 75,000 base stations to  cater for a population of 160 million people. This practice is also carried out across Africa and will  result in one thing; higher carbon emissions.

There is however a way to stop this and I don’t mean taking away people’s  phones.

Africa is set to become the biggest phone market in the world and operators are slowly starting to adapt to the power constraints facing them in the continent which is set to have 1 billion subscribers by 2015. If the Africa is to be kept relatively carbon free then telecoms operators will have to fully embrace renewable energy.

In June of 2012, the 20th anniversary of the Rio Summit, Kerry delivered a powerful speech on the Senate floor.  He denounced the current “conspiracy of silence and denial on climate change” which “empowers misinformation and mythology to grow where science and truth should prevail.”

The Rio Summit organizer, Republican President George H. W. Bush said at the time, “The United States intends to be the world’s leader in protecting the global environment.”  Kerry’s concern was that we now find ourselves in a place the former president wouldn’t recognize; the conspiracy has “demonized any constructive effort to put America in a position to lead the world on this issue.”

Three of Kerry’s demons were on the Senate committee that recently approved his nomination.  These three are supporters of the proposed Keystone pipeline down from Canada.  They evidently fear that Mr. Kerry is serious about reducing dependency on carbon fuels.  The State Department must approve the pipeline application before it goes to the president.  Mr. Kerry promised he will look at the science of the request and not the ideology.

Why should the US encourage continued fossil fuel combustion while risking pipeline spills?  Would it be to support the Canadians’ economic interest by having an ocean port in Texas to market their resources to the world?  The issues continue in Canada: tar sand mining ravaging the Boreal Forest, emitting tons of carbon dioxide with energy intensive extraction and contaminating water with chemical residues.  Tar sand partisans tell us building an oil refinery in Canada’s  back yard would be more expensive than plowing an 1,179 mile pipeline through the United States’ back yard.  Is something rotten in the state of Denmark?

These environmental and economic concerns go beyond our friendship with the Canadian people.  They too have a large environmental constituency which opposes tar sand mining.

On February 17, environmental and clean energy advocates will rally in Washington to “give their back” to the President and new Secretary of State.  The green grassroots need to get out and demonstrate support when national leaders challenge long-standing, powerful interests.  You can sign up for the rally HERE.

Both these men have stood up to big oil and the legacy of dirty, liquid fuels that have been a barrier to progressive change.  Rally organizers believe an historic showing of massive public support will break the old energy regime’s back.  Hope to see you in Washington.

The last chemical compound used in this reaction is the catalyst. A catalyst is usually used to improve the reaction rate and yield. Because the reaction is reversible, excess alcohol is used to shift the equilibrium to the products side.We will use NaOH as a catalyst in this reaction. The benefits of using a catalyst are enormous but we encounter a problem that is the water formation. This formation of water can lead to a process called saponification where the esters are attacked by -OH ions in the presence of water. This reaction is undesirable to our process and must be avoided.

I called Bob and he invited me over to his house for a talk.  I think he must have been one of the first, or maybe THE first, to have a residential photovoltaic system in Orlando.  He told me about some of the issues he encountered to get his solar system accepted by Orlando Utilities. Bob had dedicated much of his life and resources to demonstrating that energy use doesn’t have to sicken us or the planet.  His was the first solar house I had been inside.  Afterwards he generously gave me his old leaf shredder.  I used it to break down various leaves and plants I was using in my experiments.  Eventually I moved on from natural gas to make practical, uncomplicated biodiesel fuel.  Bob even knew which restaurants would leave their used cooking oil outside their back doors (at night).

I’ve always thought global warming was all about the numbers of CO2 molecules in the atmosphere.  In the article, Bob does the addition for us.  I’m sure you know the result:  droughts across our food producing mid-west, the north and south poles melting rapidly, a Franken storm in the northeast causing billions in economic loss, acidification of the oceans reducing the fish catch, Greenland’s glacier slipping into the sea.  Guess what? Climate change has only just begun.

So what can Florida citizens and government do?  Here’s what some others are doing:

In 2009, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Jersey organized a system of capping and trading CO2 emissions with regularly required reductions.  It’s called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI).  The governor of New Jersey has withdrawn the state as he was disappointed that the original criteria have not been met.  The other state representatives are continuing to engage on the issues and appear determined to find the adjustments that lead to the desired reductions.  In the meantime, new, renewable energy industries in those states have been leading the economic recovery.

California is taking action, too.  2013 marks the beginning of their CO2 emissions capping system.  Companies that can’t reduce their emissions below the cap must purchase allowances.  The first auction is already sold out.  Each year the caps will be lowered.  The allowance money is being distributed back to electricity rate-payers whose bills are expected to rise to pay for the newer, clean energy systems.  In 2011, California already had an installed capacity of 19,745 magawatts of renewable energy and was producing 333 million gallons of biofuels.  In that same year, Florida had installed capacity of only 1,421 megawatts of renewable power and produced 39 million gallons of biofuels.  The only area where Florida came close to matching Governor Brown’s state was with installed biomass power.  We had 1,195 megawatts to their 1200.

But cap and trade is just one way to reduce emissions.  A tax on carbon is another.  The Canadian provinces of Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta have all instituted their versions of carbon taxes.  In the US, Boulder, Colorado was the first municipality to enact a carbon tax.  The Bay Area Air Quality Management District in California levied a carbon tax in 2008 and Montgomery County, Maryland added a carbon tax in 2010.

Which method will Florida legislators agree to?  Or will they?  As Bob says, we all must stop making excuses for continuing to use fossil fuels.  We must work individually and through government (together) to end the dependency.

Yesterday, I had a clear vision of some young American political insiders who are aware lightworkers. They would never call themselves by this phrase, but you and I would. They are currently compiling information in the same way that Watergate brought down the Nixon administration. In other words, they are going to expose some of the dark corruption in a way that will be listened to, and not twisted by the media.

The vision of one of them was so clear, that I would recognize him if I saw him in person or by photo.

Moving on…..I’ve experienced some major-breakthroughs today on multiple-levels. Physical, emotional and spiritual to say the least!

Imagine your “highest and best” intentions, your life’s tapestry, your living-masterpiece being delivered to you from the Universe………..your life journey being laid before you in a clear, precise and vivid way; suddenly realizing your individual, life-purpose.

Service to others; changing ourselves, to “Be the Change”. Setting forth intentions, relying on faith alone that Source will respond to exactly what we ask of it. That pure, positive train-of-thought, feeling, attitude and reflection; suddenly aware that I manifest my reality.

I could have spent two or more years reading, researching, discovering and exploring, “what makes the Universe tick?”.

Speaking for myself? I don’t know and could spend the rest of my life “learning to understand” the Universe and be no closer to finding the answer. My belief; we haven’t invented it. Or in more symbiotic terms, we’ve yet to manifest it.

Over the course of the next few days, weeks, months and possibly years this journey is that of “Salvation”.

We, as Lightworkers, Indigos, Starseeds, etc. incarnated here, at this time on Planet Earth to carry out a very specific mission………”To free ourselves, from ourselves!” Our collective-consciousness has been a pervasive, perpetual-enemy to itself for generations.

When 12/21/12 came and went, I had the sudden realization that I’d been waiting for myself all along. “Self-Discovery” has led me to where I AM today.

Right now, it barely seems appropriate to continue writing about “Higher Mixed Alcohol Fuels”, other than the knowledge of it’s inception has literally skyrocketed my “dreams” into a lucid, very practical and economically-responsible solution to our crippling, petroleum-dependence.

Some of you will recognize these words as a factual and wise interpretation having done your own due-diligence, learning about our Energy-Empire and “who’s” pulling the strings. Enough said………we know now that fear-mongering only contributes to the problem, down to the energetic-level. The core level at which LOVE will triumph over fear.

I’m speaking out to those who’ve sought-out similar journeys “down the rabbit-hole” from various vantages and viewpoints; to those who understand what I’m talking about right now and already know and practice the solution to this pandemic.

LOVE.

It’s that simple. We are here to exude our love. To be the “Beacons of Light”. We already know who we are. It makes little difference whether we’re from this Earth-Plane, another planet or solar-system, or even a Higher-Density.

The singular, unifying-force we’ve come to recognize as Unconditional-Love is the impenetrable-force that will ultimately fracture what no longer serves our “Highest and Best” for Humanity including all Life-Force on Mother Earth.

We effect our environments. We are forces to be reckoned with. We live without fear. We are the chosen ones who’ve incarnated here, NOW to save Humanity from it’s perpetual-suffering and servitude; to end the suffering of all life on this planet. We have back-up; WE HAVE SOURCE.

We are LOVE.

We are LIGHT.

We exist in a chemical-body but are now emerging as Light-bodies. We are giving birth to our own Evolution as Angelic Humans.

We are the Children of the Age of Aquarius.

We are the chosen ones……………

Today, I realized that a dream, no matter how big or small, WILL BE ANSWERED by Source NO MATTER WHAT! I’ve read it a thousand times, I’ve heard it even more. I’ve made ill-attempts at “thinking” I knew and understood the law of attraction, etc.

I know only a few, simple things. Guidelines if you will………

Thoughts manifest feelings and the combination of thoughts and feelings is what breeds my attitude; my attitude being a direct-reflection of what I will manifest into my physical environment every time without fail! Test it. Practice it. Know it. Believe it. “Keep the Faith”.

If you only seek one piece of advice for the rest of your life. I’d suggest this be it. Your choice…….

For now, I should continue reveling in the moment before me and enjoy my “bliss”. Keep it simple. Stop analyzing everything that “IS”. It just is……….why continue re-visiting what no longer serves my highest and best?

Just go with it……..

To sum up everything I’ve learned today about Higher Mixed Alcohol fuels in one sentence, “Higher Mixed Alcohol Fuels are the “Holy Grail” solution to our current oil pandemic”.

It’s as simple as blending an environmentally-safe liquid (oxycarbon) fuel with current, petroleum-based (hydrocarbon) fuels, slashing tailpipe emissions. Simply put, making exhaust gasses from vehicle tailpipes up to 95% cleaner than straight gasoline; and making the air we breathe and the water we drink cleaner and safer.

Where does this all start? With you and me. I hope you share this information with everyone who you believe in your heart, are capable of transmuting this into PURE, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

That’s it. We’ve surpassed the idea. The research & development has been a success. The funding is available. The “right” people are in Washington lobbying on it’s behalf. It’s here. It is our salvation.

Studies have shown that as long as people’s basic needs are met, happiness is achieved whether they have a $1,000 or a million dollars.

Imagine your basic needs being met for just a moment and how that makes you feel. Now imagine opportunities that would suddenly abound knowing that since your basic needs have already been met, you’re suddenly free to do much, much more of what you’d much rather be doing more often. It’s simple. It’s the inception of an idea with a pure, positive intention to manifest this simple idea into your reality without analysis, without judgement or bias. Just believe. Have faith of it’s outcome. Have faith in me.

No modifications to ANY currently-operating vehicle, plane, ship, lawnmower, etc. Eventually, everyone will benefit from inexpensive, viable-energy available in mass-quantities and delivered right to your gas pump.

Oh yeah, Higher Mixed Alcohol Fuels are economically, environmentally and responsibly cultivated from our “trash” as “end-of-life” oxy-carbons (more on that later), ending the reliance on petrol-chemicals; shifting from one paradigm to another.

I’d like to dedicate this article to the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. and his undying legacy, founded solely on the principle of love.

It’s not uncommon to see a chef’s home cupboards bare except for the odd package of Mr. Noodles, or counters and dining room tables littered with take-out boxes.

Chefs often leave the cooking at work and choose to eat out when they’re not at work, but the opposite is true for chef and owner of popular Victoria food cart, Refiner Diner, Jonathan Pulker.

“I cook everything at home,” said Pulker. “When I get off work, I get home and cook some more. I’ve always been like that. I don’t get tired of it because I’m doing it at work.”

The Toronto-native may not have intended on making the island his home for the past 19 years, but when he was arrested at Clayoquot Sound and had to go to court, things changed.

Having made the decision to stay in Victoria and be a dad to his now 17-year-old daughter, Pulker began to take cooking more seriously.

“When I had a kid I got a bit more serious and started focusing on developing my career,” he said taking shelter from the cold January weather in Da Kine Coffee next to his truck. “I worked my way up from Pluto’s to the Empress and became a chef and opened Prima Strata and then went into business for myself and opened the food truck.”

While the streets of Victoria maybe far from the big food truck hubs like New York, Portland, San Francisco and Vancouver, diners are flocking to the Refiner Diner.

But for anyone who has driven down the stretch of Quadra Street where Pulker has set up shop, it wouldn’t be hard to miss his truck completely.

The small truck isn’t like the pre-made trucks available from manufacturers like Food Cart USA. Instead, it is a “rusty truck” outfitted with unique touches setting it apart from other trucks in town.

Having worked in various restaurants, Pulker had seen the expense of opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant, and with the possibility that he may not be in Victoria for much longer, he decided a food truck was the best way to get his food out to the public.

“I built it myself with help from stainless steel and gas fitters, and stuff like that,” he said. “It’s a low overhead business that I could get into was the main draw. If I put that money into a building I would lose half of it, so it just made sense.”

Pulker, who works along side his girlfriend Jenessa Lenore, serves a loyal crowd, many of whom had braved the near zero temperatures for Refiner Diner’s custom poutine, the special of the day: Fernwood Falafel or their famous crispy cheeseburger.

But serving great burgers and fries wasn’t enough for Pulker. He took his vision for Refiner Diner one step further by making his truck biodiesel, and instead of using someone else’s fryer oil for his truck, he decided to find someone who would convert the grease he uses so that he can put it back into his truck.

“It took a while to find somebody that would actually convert our oil for us,” he said. “You can convert your vehicle to grease; or you can convert your grease to be a fuel, so it’s a lot more money to convert a truck and I wanted to find someone who would convert our oil to fuel for us.”

It was at the VIP sections of local festivals like Rock the Shores and Rifflandia that locals (and the event’s entertainers) got a taste of Refiner Diner.

As people began to sample their fare, Pulker and Lenore heard over and over again from customers “where is your regular spot?” and in December Refiner Diner found a more permanent home on a lot on Quadra near Caledonia.

“’It took us until December to get a license and everything,” he said. “We got this place and passed the probationary period with the landlord and the neighbours. Now we’re in our second month and can plan for the next several months.”

While customers enjoy their fries, burgers, poutine and more from Refiner Diner, when Pulker and Lenore want a night off from slicing, sautéing and grilling they head to similar style food destinations as their own.

With years of experience in the Victoria restaurant industry, Pulker knows many of the people who are in the kitchens around town.

“The last place I went out to eat was Zambri’s,” he said. “Peter is a friend of mine and I like Peter and I like his food. I took my daughter there the other day.”

Pulker added Pig and Lao Vientiane to his list of favourite spots, in addition to lots of pho.

“I like to eat the same food I make. It’s low impact – it doesn’t cost you $100 to go out and eat, although I do like to go to Braisserie [L’ecole] once a year,” he said.

But when Pulker is cooking at home (especially during the cold and wet winter months) he is making stews, braises and a lot of borscht.

“My daughter wants to make yam and peanut soup for dinner tonight so I’m going to help her do that,” he said. “I’m trying to help her learn how to cook because she hasn’t picked it up so far. Her little brother is better than she is and he’s only seven, but he was interested in it at early age and she wasn’t. She’s more intellectual.”

While you aren’t likely to see a deep fried beef stew or borscht on the Refiner Diner menu, Pulker and Lenore are open throughout the winter from Wednesday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For updated hours and specials follow them on Facebook.

Prospek Biodiesel

Biodiesel adalah bahan bakar diesel yang terbuat dari minyak (lemak) hewan ataupun minyak nabati, oleh karena itu dapat diperbaharui. Biodiesel ini ditargetkan untuk dapat dipakai pada mesin diesel standard dengan tanpa modifikasi atau hanya sedikit modifikasi.

Dalam aplikasinya saat ini, biasa biodiesel dicampur dengan petrodiesel (bahan bakar solar) dengan system “B” factor yang menyakan persentase biodieselnya. Contoh:
B2 adalah 2% biodiesel + 98% petrodiesel
B5 adalah 5% biodiesel + 95% petrodiesel
B100 adalah 100% biodiesel

Biodiesel murni (B100) ataupun campuran dapat digunakan pada hampir semua mesin diesel injection pump. Biodiesel dapat memakan bahan karet, sehingga untuk mesin diesel lama (1992) beberapa bagian berbahan karet perlu diganti dengan FKM, walaupun seharusnya bagian tersebut sudah rusak dan sudah tergantikan dg FKM. Pada mesin yg sebelumnya menggunakan petrodiesel, penggunaan biodiesel murni (B100) dapat meninggalkan residu sehingga transisi tiba-tiba ke biodiesel dapat menyebabkan fuel filter menjadi kotor. Maka direkomendasikan untuk menukar filter pada waktu singkat setelah transisi. Beberapa manufaktur sudah memang mengizinkan pemakaian biodiesel (langsung) sampai pada taraf B5 bahkan B20.

Keuntungan biodiesel adalah sbb:

• dapat diperbaharui
• dapat digunakan pada hampir semua mesin diesel (terutama yg baru)
• lebih rendah polusi
• mengurangi emisi gas rumah kaca
• biodegradable
• tidak beracun
• safe to handle

Sebagai tandingan, berikut kekurangan biodiesel:

• tanpa subsidi, biaya untuk memproduksi biodiesel lebih mahal daripada petrodiesel.
• campuran di atas B5 belum banyak disetujui oleh manufaktur (menghanguskan garansi)
• Tingkat ekonomis dan tenaga lebih rendah (B100 –10%)
• memiliki tingkat beku yg lebih tinggi (B100) sehingga tidak cocok di area dingin

Dg dukungan dari pemerintah Indonesia berupa kebijakan mandatory pemakaian BBN dengan B-7,5 (7,5% biodiesel) untuk sektor transportasi bersubsidi dan B-2 untuk sektor industri di tahun 2012, perseroan memiliki keyakinan akan demand biodiesel di masa mendatang. Selain itu subsidi juga ditetapkan mencapai 3000 rupiah per liternya.

Aksi Korporasi Dalam Waktu Dekat

Perseroan melakukan kuasi reorganisasi pada 30 Juni 2012. Dengan kuasi reorganisasi ini, saldo defisit dapat dihapus dan laporan keuangan perseroan mengalami “fresh start” di mana retained earnings (deficit) menjadi nol. Diharapkan dengan laba mendatang, ada kemungkinan perseroan dapat membagikan dividen.

Pada 15 Agustus 2012, perseroan melakukan press release yang memberitahukan perseroan mendapat fasilitas pinjaman kredit senilai 336 Milyar melalui anak usahanya MBS. Sebelumnya BRI juga telah memberikan fasilitas pinjaman 348,8 Milyar melalui anak usahanya di MPK pada 30 Juli 2012.

Valuasi

Meski pada 2011 perseroan berhasil membukukan laba per saham (EPS) senilai 75 rupiah per lembar, namun laba tersebut bukan berasal dari operasional perusahaan, melainkan dari hasil investasi.

Dengan adanya pinjaman dari BRI, beban bunga pada kuartal ke3 mulai terlihat naik menjadi 10,9 Milyar dari 7,4 Milyar di tahun sebelumnya (padahal penjualan masih belum ada peningkatan). Meski perseroan memproyeksikan penjualan kuartal ke4 akan naik (6500MT dari 5750MT di kuartal sebelumnya), penulis akan mengunakan asumsi penjualan masih sama dengan peningkatan pertumbuhan 5% di tahun berikutnya.

Optimisme peningkatan penjualan biodiesel menurut penulis masih terkendala dengan harga yang masih lebih mahal dibanding petrodiesel dan bergantung pada subsidi pemerintah. Selain itu juga penjualan perseroan sangat bergantung pada Pertamina sehingga tingkat ketergantungannya sangat tinggi.

Nilai wajar saham per lembarnya adalah: 352 untuk akhir 2012. Di mana harga saham saat ini 315 (15 Jan 2013) baru memberikan diskon 10%. Dengan tingkat resiko yang cukup tinggi, untuk entry penulis menganjurkan untuk menunggu setidaknya ada diskon 30%, yaitu pada harga 246,6 (untuk saham resiko biasa diskon 15% cukup).

The oil recycling initiative that forms part of the group’s waste management programme has been running for six years, with one million litres collected to date. As a result, some 870 000 litres of biodiesel were produced, translating into a saving of 3.1 million kg of CO2 equivalent emissions.

Working through a Western Cape company, Envirodiesel, the oil is collected weekly from the group’s Spur Steak Ranches, Panarottis Pizza Pasta and John Dory’s Fish Grill Sushi, and is purified and converted to biodiesel which is then sold on to companies using this type of fuel.

Envirodiesel even powers its own collection vehicles with the biodiesel as it is cleaner and more fuel-efficient than diesel and provides better engine lubrication.

According to CEO Pierre van Tonder, all the oil collected by Enviro-diesel is converted into biodiesel.

“We have made it mandatory that oil waste has to be collected from our restaurants once a week and a register is maintained to track compliance by all our franchisees.”

“We are aware that some environmentalists do not promote biofuel production where land is involved that could be used to grow food. However, this is not an issue here. We are converting waste into a viable source of energy.”
