Not content with being the greatest golfer of all time, Tiger Woods has now devised a new sport – Street Pinball.

It’s early days yet, and so far old Tige has only mastered rebounding off a fire hydrant and then hitting a tree, but his wife twatting the car with a No 3 iron doesn’t seem to have been a great success in giving him the extra impetus to increase his score.

My suggestion is that he installs a rocket sled track starting at his front door (to act like a plunger) and then he mounts his Cadillac on it in a similar fashion to this:

A giant fuck-off pair of flippers (instead of gates) could then be installed which would send his car ricocheting around the neighbourhood with some real beans behind it.

Bumpers, kickers and ramps would then be constructed along the streets of the leafy suburb where he lives and then Tiger could be free to bounce around, racking up high scores at will.

Of course, it’ll scare the neighbours shitless, but that’s the price of progress.

Go, Tiger, go!

Of course, the Fast Show had it all worked out years ago…

Bob Boyce is a famous inventor in the world of ultra-efficient electrolysis and hydroxy research. The chip found in his shoulder at the point of tumor formation turns out to be manufactured by VeriChip.

Bob Boyce, who has invented a super-efficient electrolysis method, as well as a self-looping electrical circuit capable of charging batteries, discovered a microchip implant in his shoulder when having a tumor removed from that spot, which metastasized. It turns out the chip was made by VeriChip.

Pure Energy Systems News | Nov 28, 2009

Inventor’s terminal cancer courtesy of Verichip?

by Sterling D. Allan

On Nov. 12, we reported that a South African experimenter has modified an electrolysis circuit developed by Bob Boyce so that now it recharges his daughter’s electric vehicle riding toy. We said that what makes this remarkable is that the energy is not drawn from the wall but from the environment somehow; and that he’s done this around 35 times now and knows of three replications of the effect by others. We created a feature page and a discussion list to facilitate additional replications and development of the technology.

We also reported in the same story that we had become aware the day before that Bob Boyce has “terminal” cancer, and that his days are numbered if some kind of remedy isn’t found.

On Nov. 12, Bob wrote:

The cancer that I have developed was not directly due to my research, as many have suggested. Having said that, it did occur under suspicious circumstances. When I was in Florida earlier this year, I noticed a small, hard lump had appeared under the skin of my right shoulder. I wondered where it came from, of course, but did not give it much thought. Over time, the skin over and around the lump turned reddish and became sore.

A few months ago, while working with an EMF meter on the bench in my lab, I noticed that I was picking up a weak signal. Nothing else was running at the time, so I tried locating the source, and traced it to the lump in my shoulder! I made arrangements with my doctor to have it removed, and he suspected a common skin cancer.

The object itself was tiny, about the size of a dry grain of rice, surrounded by a white fibrous shell. It had numerous nerves attached to it.

Once it had been removed, it ceased sending out a signal, as verified by my portable EMF detector.

I wanted to keep it and analyze it myself, but my doctor convinced me to let him send it off to the lab. My doctor sent it and the surrounding tissue off for pathology. Not surprisingly, there was absolutely no mention of the object itself in the pathology report.

The surrounding tissue turned out to be this rare form of cancer that has been linked to excessive x-ray exposure in x-ray technicians. The surgery had disturbed the cancer and sent cancer cells throughout my blood stream. The margins were not clear, indicating that the cancer was still present at the incision site, as well as clear indications now that the cancer has spread. I can’t blame the doctor really, as at the time we did not know that it was not a simple skin cancer.

What I really want to know is, what was this object, and how in the heck did it get imbedded in the skin of my shoulder without me knowing about it?

Many of you have sent us emails and made phone calls suggesting various possible cures. We are hopeful that with the information that has come Bob’s way that he will be able to secure a complete cure from his cancer.

Meanwhile, on Thanksgiving evening Bob called and left a voice message in which he informed me that it turns out that the chip that was implanted in his shoulder was made by VeriChip, a company that makes implantable microchips.

According to the VeriChip VeriMed page:

About the size of a grain of rice, the microchip is inserted just under the skin and contains only a unique, 16-digit identifier. The microchip itself does not contain any other data other than this unique electronic ID, nor does it contain any Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking capabilities. And unlike conventional forms of identification, the Health Link cannot be lost, stolen, misplaced, or counterfeited. It is safe, secure, reversible, and always with you.

Close-up of a VeriChip implant device, the size of a small grain of rice.

Another page on their site describes the RFID technology, which is an essential component of their chips, and the proximity required for reading different kinds of chips, such as those used in automated toll collection.

In his message to me, Bob referred me to a website, AntiChips.com, which documents the link between embedded RFID microchips and tumor formation. It cites a paper, Microchip-Induced Tumors in Laboratory Rodents and Dogs: A Review of the Literature 1990–2006, and summarizes it as follows:

CASPIAN’s new report … is a definitive review of research showing a causal link between implanted radio-frequency (RFID) microchip transponders and cancer in laboratory rodents and dogs. It was written in part to correct industry misstatements and misinformation circulating about the studies.

The report evaluates eleven articles previously published in toxicology and pathology journals. In six of the articles, between 0.8% and 10.2% of laboratory mice and rats developed malignant tumors around or adjacent to the microchips. Two additional articles reported microchip-related cancer in dogs.

In almost all cases, the malignant tumors, typically sarcomas, arose at the site of the implants and grew to surround and fully encase the devices. These fast-growing, malignant tumors often led to the death of the afflicted animals. In many cases, the tumors metastasized or spread to other parts of the animals. The implants were unequivocally identified as the cause of the cancers.

This is one story you will want to pass on to your networks to get the word out about the kinds of nefarious deeds going on to suppress new energy technology that could truly empower people to break free of the powers that be.

I’ve got a few questions for Bob the next time I talk to him.

* How did you find out the chip was made by VeriChip?
* Is your source willing to go on record?
* Are you planning legal action?
* Is it okay for Watkykjy1 to disclose to the B-Hex group the full details of how he built his charging device?

I’ll probably append his responses here.

I also tried to contact VeriChip for a comment, but being a holiday weekend, I haven’t heard back yet.

DURHAM, N.C. – A North Carolina couple has been sentenced on misdemeanor charges in a case involving abusing other adults during Satan worship.

Joseph Scott Craig, 25, and his 30-year-old wife Joy Johnson were each sentenced Friday to two 60-day suspended sentences and a year of probation.

Search warrants said the victims were a man and a woman who moved in with Craig and Johnson after they became friends through their satanic interests.

The victims say Craig beat them, shackled them to beds, kept them in dog cages and starved them.

Craig entered an Alford plea, which means he maintained his innocence but acknowledged prosecutors had enough evidence for a conviction. Johnson pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting her husband.

Every now and then, I dabble in painting. I am utterly shit at it, as I’m sure Mr. O’Br

Every now and then, I dabble in painting. I am utterly shit at it, as I’m sure Mr. O’Brien, my high school art teacher, would happily attest to, but I find it so relaxing. Except when I get to the end of smearing paint over the canvas, look at the results and go, WOW, I am truly crap at this!

So it was reassuring to find that three of my closest friends are equally rubbish. Yvonne, Vanessa, Daniel and I ended up moving in to a great little apartment on Bondi Beach when we were living in Sydney. Well, it was great apart from the wild parties the cockroaches held in our kitchen every night. Shortly after moving in, I decided the walls were a little, well, boring… so I bought some cheap canvases and acrylics, and forced everyone to unleash their creative spirit.

Behold, the results -

Yvonne entitled this “Picasso Threw Up”.

Vanessa = Bully. I think she slapped us around a few times to keep us in line. We knew we needed it.

Daniel, what is that in the lower left corner of the canvas exactly?

Huh. This is my painting. All I see now is balls and nipples. Hmm. Balls and nipples. Let’s just leave it at that. We can see why painting is not my thing now, right?

Williams, 43, is accused of a bizarre plan to get a loan from the PNC Bank in Mechanicsville, Maryland. When his wife refused to co-sign the loan, Williams allegedly went out and kidnapped another woman to pretend that she was his wife and to sign the papers. It is not clear what he thought the woman would do after the transaction, but the effort was halted by the bank which could not help but notice that his wife had changed in a matter of hours. Even in a state with no-fault divorce, that is a bit of a fast turnaround.

William would end up with one loan short and one wife too many.

Notably, when Williams’ “first wife” refused to co-sign the loan, he argued with her and then tried to sign for her. He then showed up a couple hours later with his “loaner wife.”

According to the police account, Williams walked into the PNC bank branch in Mechanicsville about 1 p.m. Tuesday to seek a loan. With him was a woman he said was his wife. She refused to co-sign. Williams tried to sign her name, but the bank wouldn’t allow it. The two left together.

He is clearly unstable. If he had simply gone to Congress, he could have received billions with little paperwork or need to repay the Treasury.

He was arrested and could face civil liability as well for false imprisonment, battery, assault, and other charges. Oh yes, there is the likely divorce filing.

In yesterday’s story, the Comito family was shocked (here) when they learned that Robert Comito’s ashes were simply dropped from an airplane without opening the box — landing intact in a crater rather than being elegantly spread in the air. They need to talk to the family of Robert Gowdy to see how it could have been much worst. The family in Phoenix, Arizona is suing the city of Mesa, a funeral home, and other parties after a casket broke during a funeral and allow the corpse to fall into the grave in front of traumatized family members.

The lawsuit is initially striking is the number of plaintiffs. Twenty-four relatives have sued (and their lawsuit was combined with the filing of the widow Roxanne and her three children). They are represented by an attorney, Bertrand Russell — presumably not the philosopher reincarnated.

The complaint states that the family had originally ordered a “Renaissance” solid-wood casket, but when the casket was not available, the Preston funeral home’s director, Rev. James Preston (shown right), offered to “upgrade” to a better “Madison” casket free of charge.

Rev. Preston is also the local minister, here.

At the grave site, the casket was lowered into the grave by city cemetery employees Enido Ayala and Gonzalo Meza. The lowering device suddenly broke — causing the casket to fall into the grave at an angle. The complaint states “The broken strap caused the casket to slide head-first at an angle into the grave, hit the side of the vault, and come to rest in the grave at approximately a 45-degree angle. The impact of the casket into the side of the vault caused the casket lid to disconnect and exposed Robert Sr.’s body to the entire assembly.” When two men tried to lift the damaged box from the grave, the bottom separated from the sides “causing Robert Sr.’s body to slide off the casket and into the bottom of the grave. Robert Sr.’s body was lifted, drug out of the grave, and placed on the ground.” The body then had to be lifted out of the grave by its arms and legs.

What is amazing is that not only did the corpse fall freely into the grave, but witnesses say that Ayala and Meza reportedly fled on foot, the lawsuit states.

The city blames the casket manufacturer Aurora Casket Company, which is a defendant. Also being sued is the Frigid Fluid Company, which made the casket-lowering device.

Notably, Aurora claims:

A natural, environmentally sound choice for caskets, hardwood is strong, beautiful and shock-resistant. When families choose a hardwood casket, they are leaving a legacy for the next generation because wood is a renewable resource.

Here is a picture of the Madison.

For the devices for lowering the caskets, click here.

The family discovered that the “Madison” casket was actually made of particle board held by staples.

While the family might have hoped that every detail of the second funeral would be carefully addressed by the funeral home, it turned out to be another disaster, according to the complaint. Six days after the first attempt, the family gathered at the funeral home only to find that Robert Gowdy was now dressed in what was described as mismatched throw away clothing. They say that, despite the fact that Robert Sr. hated in pinstriped, he was dressed in a mysterious black pinstripe suit with a blue shirt and brown tie. The funeral home said that the original clothing was soiled in the accident. The body was also missing a friendship bracelet Robyn had given to her deceased father.

The mishandling of torts is one of the oldest claims under torts and exposes funeral homes and companies to potential punitive award liability. The large number of litigants will raise some issues for claims like negligent infliction of emotional distress if there is no physical injury and that onlookers are not close relatives. In Arizona, the standard is based on the zone of danger test:

To state a negligent infliction of emotional distress claim arising from witnessing another person’s injury or death, a plaintiff must establish that she was within the “zone of danger,” and “must prove physical injury resulting from the shock of witnessing injury to a closely related person.” Duke v. Cochise County, 189 Ariz. 35, 38, 938 P.2d 84, 87 (App. 1996); see also Keck v. Jackson, 122 Ariz. 114, 115-16, 593 P.2d 668, 669-70 (1979).

It will be interesting to see how many of these litigants can recover for this horrific scene. I have always viewed negligent infliction of emotional distress rules to be too narrow in such cases, where they serve to exclude people with legitimate injury from being exposed to deeply disturbing acts of negligence.

Yet, we have seen similar body dumping cases where the funeral home has prevailed, here.

Other cases often involve dripping liquids or other mistreatment of the body, here and here and here.

However, in England, the rap song itself was the crime for Ishmael McLean, 22, from Greenford, and Rowan Simon, 18. They are accused of using an Internet song to intimidate witnesses to the murder of Jason Johnson, 24.

Police say that the video warned witnesses not to talk to police and was sent to them by the two men. Entitled “Wrong Team”, the song featured a backing chorus and the ominous sound of gunfire. It was posted on YouTube, MySpace and Facebook. It had such lines as ‘I can’t wait for the snitch to drop, I still show up at his wake just to see him off’.” It was known that one witness had come forward but the identity of the witness was unknown.

Old Bailey Judge Richard Hone interpreted the lyrics as meaning that “Those who went chitter-chattering to police were themselves in danger of being shot.” “Chittering-chattering” would never make an American gangsta rap.

McLean was jailed for four years and Simon was jailed for 30 months.
McLean was also sentenced to a year in jail for possessing ammunition, the term to run concurrently.

While we have not seen songs as the criminal act, we have seen rap songs as the key piece of evidence in prior crimes, here and here.

Things have been busy and I can’t say I’ve been overly motivated. What’s worse is that the break from it all is just about over and I don’t feel any more ready to take it all on. I’m supposed to be refreshed and rejuvenated yet all I am is… disappointed. I miss it here, I miss the people. But I learned I may have a skewed sense of reality when it comes to this place. Turns out its not the same when I’m gone and all those things I think I’m missing I’m not, because they only occur when I am here. Bizarre and very unhelpful in helping guide my future.

The ‘carbon market’ – trading in an invisible gas which cannot be used – has involved the redistribution of resources to unproductive green pursuits and the creation of a vast bureacracy. Let’s bring it down before it gets any bigger.

Spiked | Nov 27, 2009

by Josie Appleton

Adam Smith and Karl Marx disagreed about many things, but they would surely have concurred that the very idea of a ‘carbon market’ is bonkers. Carbon dioxide is an invisible gas and a naturally occurring substance. When it is produced as a waste product from another process, like burning fossil fuel, it cannot be used for anything else. How on earth could carbon dioxide, as waste product, have a value and be subject to exchange? How could it become the gaseous analogue to money or gold, an atmospheric ‘universal equivalent’ into which other gases can be converted?

The carbon market in 2007 was worth $64billion: how could this be? A market is supposed to be the exchange of products that are the result of somebody’s work, for the satisfaction of somebody else’s needs. Smith stated that the value of the product is proportional to the amount of work expended in it: ‘The real price of everything’, he wrote in the Wealth of Nations, ‘is the toil and trouble of acquiring it’ (1). This goes for markets in bread or tables, iTunes or diamonds, no matter what nature the ‘work’ or how frivolous the ‘need’. But a market in carbon: quoi?

Related

Al Gore, world’s first ‘carbon billionaire’, raking in profits from climate change

Quietly and without fuss, all the rules of classical economics are being torn up – in a way that could be very foolish indeed. As we approach the deal-making at the UN conference on climate change at Copenhagen, it is worth thinking about exactly what we are doing here.

What is a carbon market?

At present, there are several fragmentary carbon markets. The biggest by far is the European Emissions Trading Scheme, tied to EU-wide carbon targets (worth $50 billion in 2007) (2); then the much smaller Australian New South Wales Greenhouse Gas Abatement Scheme, and voluntary Chicago Climate Exchange. What these markets trade is not carbon dioxide itself, but carbon dioxide emissions reductions – either unused carbon credits, or certified ways in which carbon dioxide production has been reduced.

In addition to these, there are project-based carbon markets – under the headings of ‘Joint Implementation’ (JI) or ‘Clean Development Mechanism’ (CDM). These were created under the Kyoto Protocol of 1997, and essentially allow industrialised countries to invest in a carbon-reducing project elsewhere, in order to meet their carbon targets (JI is investment within Kyoto countries; CDM invests in developing countries).

This is nothing compared to the plans of green economists – the most megalomaniac of whom must be Britain’s Lord Nicholas Stern of Brentford, currently issuing thoughts for the day on everything ranging from world diet (everyone should go vegetarian) to the desired world total carbon emissions two generations’ hence (20 gigatonnes by 2050) (3). Stern envisages a global carbon market – which encompasses world economic production and consumption, as well as the ‘work’ of trees in removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere – and hopes that Copenhagen will take us a step in that direction.

(Valuing trees’ photosynthetic processes might sound a bit mad, but Australia has shown that this can be done with its set-up of ‘carbon rights’, which allow the owner of a plot of land to have ‘rights’ over carbon-removing and producing capacity (4). So if you plant more trees, your investment goes up – if you chop down trees or they burn down in a bush fire, the carbon rights investment goes up in flames, too.)

Stern, of course, was the guru who gave the economic justification for carbon emissions reductions, spelling out in his 700-page UK government report in October 2006 that it would be well worth it to sacrifice one per cent of world GDP to reduce carbon emissions, because the risk of non-reduction would be consumption plummeting by up to 20 per cent (5). Every subsequent alteration in Stern’s calculations has been announced with grave fanfare, as if expecting economics ministers of the world to hurriedly adjust their budgets in line with his latest thinking. In June 2008, for example, he revised his estimate to two per cent of world GDP that should be sacrificed in carbon mitigation (apparently this is still a bargain).

Now Stern has condensed and revised his thoughts in the book, Blueprint for a Safer Planet. Of all economists, Stern has done the most to theorise the idea of carbon value, and his theories are already being put into practice in the UK government’s carbon budgets, under the 2008 Climate Change Bill. The headaches for UK civil servants trying to put Stern’s kooky theories into practice should act as a warning against any further expansion of these ideas.

The fantasy of carbon value

Stern defines carbon value (or the cost of carbon) as ‘embodying in the price of a good not only the cost of the raw materials, labour, capital and so on used in its production, but also the cost of the damages from the emissions produced in the consumption or production of that good’ (6). At base, carbon value is a negative value, which expresses the damage done by industrial activity.

This is also called the ‘marginal social cost’ (MSC), or the ‘shadow price of carbon’. Stern claims that carbon value captures the ‘true costs’ of productive activity:

‘At the heart of economic policy must be the recognition that the emission of greenhouse gases is a market failure. When we emit greenhouse gases we damage the prospects for others and, unless appropriate policy is in place, we do not bear the costs of the damage. Markets then fail in the sense that their main coordinating mechanism – prices – gives the wrong signals. That is, prices… do not reflect the true cost to society of producing and using those goods.’ (7)

These costs of CO2 production, apparently, include ‘severe dislocation, with rising sea levels, a greater frequency of intense storms and hurricanes…’, which inflict damage on the earth’s climate, on people, and on future generations (8).

In an ideal economy, according to Stern, the value of carbon is equal to the marginal social cost (MSC), which is also equal to what is termed the ‘marginal abatement cost’ (MAC: the cost of reducing carbon emissions, by shifting to low-carbon energy or carbon capture/storage). That is, in a rational economy, people would pay the same for the right to produce carbon – and continue using fossil fuels – as it would cost them to switch to another technology; which is also equivalent to the damage inflicted by their carbon production. Industry will exploit all possible low-carbon technologies up until the point where their costs are balanced out by the price of carbon. Stern represents this reasoning in the following equation:

MSC=MAC=CO2 price

So the whole thing hangs on the marginal social cost (MSC), the damage done by carbon production. Yet there is a problem: it turns out that MSC is a phantasm. Stern basically admits that MSC, the supposed crux of and basis for all carbon value, cannot be calculated. He says there is a ‘very large possible range for the MSC’ (9), and that because of the ‘huge range of estimates for the SCC [the social cost of carbon]’ this ‘means that the SCC is a very weak and unreliable peg for policy.’

Indeed, in Why We Disagree About Climate Change, Mike Hulme notes the wild variation in estimates for the social cost of carbon, ranging from $0 to $2,000 per tonne. Hulme observes that the mainstream debate in UK circles focuses on whether it is $14 or $140 per tonne (which is vast – imagine if people couldn’t agree the price of gold within a factor of 10) (10).

So having admitted that MSC and MAC are so vague as to be unworkable, in the book Stern uses an ‘alternative route’, which ‘considers the appropriate targets from the perspective of risk and costs, and seeks out the cheapest method, generally using a price mechanism, of reaching the targets’ (11).

UK civil servants, after banging their heads against the wall trying to implement Stern’s damage-based carbon value, have now also taken this route. In July 2009, the UK government produced a new report saying that it would abandon valuation of carbon damage as a basis for carbon value – which, following Stern’s advice, it had been unsuccessfully trying to implement – and shift instead to the ‘cost of mitigation’ (12)

That is, the value of carbon is that which persuades industry to meet the carbon target. Carbon price is the price that would persuade people to switch to low-carbon technology by the degree necessary to meet the target.

It is the bureaucratic target – and the target alone – that is actually the rationale and logic for the whole enterprise of establishing carbon value. For the UK government, its target is to reduce carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050, with five-year intermediary ‘carbon budgets’, and it is these bureaucratically invented targets that determine the price of carbon.

What is striking is the total absence of nations like Russia and China from either list despite their criticism of U.S. foreign policy.

While many of us continue to object to our foreign policies, it is remarkably how little countries like Russia and China give in aid while trying to organize the world in a coalition against the United States. Likewise, Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías may relish his friends in Cuba, Russia, China, and Iran but these regimes offer more rhetoric than riches to the world’s poor.

It also puts into comparison our own giving levels when considered as part of our GNP. Obviously, we cannot ignore our consumption of a disproportionate amount of the world’s resources or our contribution to pollution and global warming. However, there is surprising little criticism of the lack of aid shown by countries like Russia and China.

Who Gives Most?

1. United States 21.4%
2. Germany 11.5%
3. United Kingdom 9.4%
5. Japan 7.7%
6. Netherlands 5.7%
7. Spain 5.4%
8. Sweden 3.9%
9. Canada 3.9%
10. Italy 3.6%

Who gives the highest proportion of their gross national income?

Sarah Palin is the gift that continues to keep on giving. In her recent appearance on O’Reilly

Sarah Palin is the gift that continues to keep on giving. In her recent appearance on O’Reilly, Palin was asked the “intelligence question,” to wit, the lack of presumed intelligence to be president. Palin responded by explaining that in today’s politics the lack of an impressive education or resume is actually the credential that Americans want in a candidate.

Here is the transcript:

O’REILLY: Let me be very bold and fresh again. Do you believe that you are smart enough, incisive enough, intellectual enough to handle the most powerful job in the world?

PALIN: I believe that I am because I have common sense, and I have, I believe, the values that are reflective of so many other American values. And I believe that what Americans are seeking is not the elitism, the the kind of spineless… a spinelessness that perhaps is made up for that with some kind of elite Ivy League education and a fat resume that’s based on anything but hard work and private sector, free enterprise principles. Americans could be seeking something like that in positive change in their leadership. I’m not saying that has to be me.

Putting aside the uncertain meaning of having “values that are reflective of so many other American values,” Palin actually suggests that a successful background is a liability — what really matters is personality and the lack of such impressive resumes.

This part of the interview occurs around the 7:45 marker on the interview below:

In the parallel world of Palin, educated means spineless and success means elitism. She was able to avoid both liabilities, here.

It seems to be a winning combination of little resume credentials and no impressive educational background:

I saw this on TV, and laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants.

I am not a fan of dolphins.

They are the Christians of the sea.

They chase after sharks, push their beliefs and avoid caffeine.

I don’t trust them. A face that streamlined could only be designed for evil and sordid acts. Acts of evil. And sordidity (what do you mean ’sordidity’ isn’t a word? It clearly is. Well, it clearly should be).

How Rude!

But don’t take my word for it, here is a true story which illustrates the depths of the dolphins evil and his desire to destroy the very people who worship him the most (names changed because I can’t remember what they were)…

Shelley loved dolphins.

She loved dolphins big time. Her home sported hand sculptured dolphin candles, dolphin wind chimes, and a velour bedspread with a massive picture of a dolphin leaping out of the water in front of a sunset.

Shelley felt uncomfortable with the distance between herself and the mighty dolphin. So she decided to get on a boat and get amongst the action.

Shelley was in her element. She and her boyfriend were on a boat, in the midst of high frequency dolphin noise pollution- and it was marvellous. But it wasn’t enough for Shelley. She lay on the deck, fantasising of getting even closer to the dolphins. She sang a hauntingly haunting song, summoning the creatures from the deep.

Then her dream came true.

A 300 kg dolphin leapt out of the ocean, and into the boat.

Onto her.

You may laugh (I certainly did), but Shelley suffered massive internal injuries, and nearly died (I stopped laughing here). It was in hospital that her boyfriend looked at her bloodied, broken, dolphin-smashed body and though ‘this is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with’.

Who wouldn’t? Clearly, she’s a catch.

They did get married, and sold their story to the Womans Weekly entitled ‘Dolphin Girl Gets Married.’

The article discussed her feelings towards the dolphin, stating she still loves them as much as ever; and detailed the wedding, which included a massive ICE SCULPTURE OF A DOLPHIN.

Am I the only one who finds this bizarre?

If I got hit by a truck, I would not have a truck-shaped ice sculpture at my wedding. And if I was forever referred to as ‘Truck Girl’, I would be offended.

You still like dolphins, do you? Hmmm? Dolphin girl? You still think they are beautiful, majestic, intelligent creatures? Maybe you should re-consider, because dolphins clearly DO NOT like you.

I would think twice before lying on a beach this summer, Dolphin Girl, or you may end up with a whale (the dolphins fat cousin) beaching itself on your head.

The moral of this story is that dolphins do not want to be worshipped. People like Shelley are ruining their rep, and they will do everything in their power to strike them down. They find stained glass window hangings in their image tacky and embarassing. Which gives them a few more points in my book.

But not enough for me to buy ‘dolphin friendly’ tuna.

Now this would make for an interesting bailment and negligence case in North Carolina. Robert Comito

Now this would make for an interesting bailment and negligence case in North Carolina. Robert Comito, a former gunner on a B17, wanted to have his ashes sprinkled in the skies. His family gave the ashes to the Collings Foundation, which agreed to perform the aerial distribution of Comito. Later, however, sheriff deputies found a crater with Comito’s ashes in a box that was thrown from the plane without opening it.

Collings Foundation is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to aviation history:

The purpose of the Collings Foundation is to organize and support “living history” events that enable Americans to learn more about their heritage through direct participation. The original focus of the Foundation was transportation-related events such as antique car rallies, hill climbs, carriage and sleight rides, along with a winter ice-cutting festival in Stow, MA areas. During the mi-eighties, these activities were broadened to include aviation-related events such as air shows, barnstorming, historical reunions, Wings of Freedom Tour, Vietnam Memorial Flights, and joint museum displays.

The foundation insists that it did not know the box was plastic as opposed to cardboard. However, I would be a bit worried about tossing out a cardboard box without opening it.

Families have sued after learning that ashes were not distributed as requested, here. I do find it strange that family members are not present for such events to guarantee proper disposal and to witness the person’s final “resting place.”

Other families have sued for the accidental spillage for ashes, here.

Even thieves have been accused of mishandling ashes, here.

In our Thanksgiving torts we have one such potential lawsuit, here.

As for Comito, it represented his last bombing run. His family is going to ensure his correct distribution. The foundation is incredibly fortunate that no one was hit by the box. However, there may be a possibility for a lawsuit by the family for negligence, bailment, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. There might even be an attempt at showing an ultrahazardous activity to apply strict liability.

The Swiss are poised to vote on a disturbing attack on religion: a ban on minarets on mosques used for the adhan (call to prayer). If passed, the referendum this Sunday would be a clear denial of a basic human right for Muslims and an act of popular intolerance against a minority group.

The measure is the work of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party. The organizer is Ulrich Schlüer, who insists that “The minaret has got nothing to do with religion. It’s a symbol of political power, a prelude to the introduction of sharia law.”

While it is true that the first minarets appeared 80 years after Muhammad’s death, they do play a significant role in the calling of the faithful and providing the faithful with a visual vantage point — much like a church bell tower served to call to Christians. It is odd that the party is not seeking a ban on church towers.

Emergency responders in southern Australia rushed to a farm after reports of a gas leak.

More than a dozen firefighters and two trucks answered the call.

Fire Captain Peter Harkins recounts pulling onto the property and seeing a 250 lbs. sow, “…It was very obvious where the gas was coming from…We could not only smell it, but we heard it and it was quite funny.”
