It will happen eventually – the iPhone will become available to Verizon, and other North American carriers.

That is hardly an issue, unless you are part of the AT&T organization, I suppose. And, the iPhone won’t likely find shelf-space at Sprint because of the on-going iPhone vs. Palm Pre smack-down (read: candid colored Apple). And, as readers of the Blog know full well, I am of the considered opinion that the Pre is by no means an iPhone killer – or, really even much in the way of competition. On the other hand, and it’s challenging for me, as an Apple evangelist, to admit that a Blackberry product (read: The Macberry) is proving more helpful in my quest for world domination than the iPhone.

However, grudgingly returning to my point, a better question than whether the iPhone should move to Verizon is whether the iPhone should move to the consumer.

When might the hapless denizens of our United States wake up? In the rest of the world (well… perhaps outside of Sub-Sahara Africa, and that’s called the “dark continent” for more reasons than even I can go on about) I can easily buy any mobile phone (except the iPhone), then buy a SIM card from any carrier in that country, and shove it (gently) into the phone, and be in business, as it were. If I don’t like the service or coverage, I place my vote and dollars into motion and buy another SIM card from a different carrier that works best for me.

I am hardly qualified as a product specialist; I am a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on consuming, however. I am also a significant controller of Apple stock. And, I do have some influence in-and-amongst those halls, and with a few analysts (who read this Blog, for example).

Apple could likely sell far more iPhones this way – and, the (other) consumers would finally have some real choice: Buy the phone you want; get the service you desire; and, change, either or both, as you see fit.

Research In Motion announced a new model of BlackBerry ® Smart Card Reader – lightweight and portable, ISO 7816 compatible card reader that enables controlled access to a computer ® smartphone users and your Blackberry. BlackBerry Smart Card Reader uses Bluetooth ® 2.0-compatible AES-256 encryption for enhanced interaction between the BlackBerry reader, computer software and PKI.

Functions that are new BlackBerry Smart Card Reader:

* Improved design – more rational design of only 3.98 “x 2.4″ x 0.57 “and weighs just 2.26 ounces makes the device more comfortable to wear. RIM Blackberry Tour

Both Sprint and Verizon have released the phone. The one reviewed here is the Verizon version.

Marketed as a “global phone,” the BlackBerry Tour can access high-speed 3G service worldwide. Users can check messages from up to 10 email addresses without opening a Web browser and view and edit Microsoft Office documents on the handset.

The handset also has a 3.2-megapixel camera, music player, instant messaging, and a microSD slot that, combined with the internal memory, leaves the phone with more than 2GB of storage space.

The Tour offers similar multimedia features on the BlackBerry Curve and has an even better screen than the BlackBerry Bold. While most main screens have half the resolution, the Tour offers 480 x 320 px clarity.

Direktorat Reserse Kriminal Khusus Polda Metro Jaya menggerebek rumah yang dijadikan tempat untuk merakit telepon seluler (ponsel) jenis blackberry palsu Jl Jatayu VIII, Jelambar, Jakarta Barat, Minggu (23/8).

Kepala Bidang Humas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Chyshnanda Dwi Laksono di Jakarta, Senin, mengatakan, polisi menangkap tersangka bernama K alias TW dengan barang bukti ratusan ponsel blackberry palsu berbagai tipe.

Tersangka diduga telah merakit dan mengemas ponsel tanpa dilengkapi surat ijin industri dari instansi yang berwenang.

“Ponsel tersebut lalu dijual kepada konsumen tanpa dilengkapi dengan sertifikat postel, buku petunjuk dan kartu garansi berbahasa Indonesia,” katanya.

Untuk merakit ponsel itu, tersangka menggabungkan komponen ponsel yang didatangkan dari China selain komponen Nokia tipe E71 dan Nokia tipe 5800.

Dalam menjalankan aksinya, tersangka membawa ponsel dari China dalam bentuk terurai sebagai komponen-komponen dan bukan dalam bentuk jadi.

Komponen itu lalu dirakit dan dilengkapi aksesoris, baterai dan sarung ponsel.

Ponsel palsu itu lalu dipasarkan di daerah Roxy Mas, Fatmawati dan Cempaka Mas, Jakarta.

Barang bukti yang dapat disita dari tersangka antara lain lima box blackberry, tujuh dus baterai blackberry, dua dus charger blackberry, satu dus headset, satu dus kabel data, tiga dus set blackberry 8310, empat lap top, empat blackberry tipe 8520, satu boks blackberry tipe 8910, satu boks blackberry type 8310, 12 blackberry rusak, ratusan asesoris dan satu unit mobil Kijang Inova B 1258 TW.

“Tersangka mengaku melakukan kegiatan tersebut sejak dua bulan yang lalu namun keterangan itu masih perlu dibuktikan,” katanya.

Tersangka dijeret dengan UU Nomor 5 tahun 1984 tentang perindustrian, UU nomor 8 tahun 1999 tentang perlindungan konsumen dan UU nomor 36 tahun 1999 tentang telekomunikasi.

Polisi mengetahui tersangka membuat ponsel palsu setelah mendapatkan informasi dari masyarakat yang menyebutkan bahwa ada kegiatan merakit barang palsu di Jl Jatayu VIII Jelambar.

Untuk itu, polisi menugaskan beberapa personil untuk menyelidiki informasi itu.

Setelah mendapatkan bukti, polisi lalu menggerebek rumah tersangka dimana beberapa karyawan sedang kepergok merakit ponsel palsu.

como si no tuvieramos suficiente con twitter , facebook y myspace en el blackberry, RIM acaba de lanzar el dia de hoy su nueva red social llamada “MyBlackberry” lo cual me parece un nombre super original (si, claro).

La meta de esta red social, mas alla de tener recomendaciones de apps y un perfil propio, es en realidad que los usuarios puedan entre ellos darse soporte tecnico y feedback.

Sera basado en un sistema de discusiones tipica de un foro y no personalmente no le veo nada de atractivo. ¿uds?

Dentro de unos días estará disponible en el portal de juegos de las operadoras españolas el juego Sonic Unleashed de Gameloft. Sí, como lo oyes, Gameloft ha desarrollado un juego de Sonic que además en mi opinión es uno de los mejores juegos de móviles que ha publicado Gameloft hasta la fecha. Estupenda y frenética jugabilidad, nuevos poderes de Sonic que tiene ahora un lado oscuro durante la noche y toda la esencia del juego de consolas que tantos y tan bonitos recuerdos nos trae.  Y lo mejor de todo es que no defrauda como la anteriores entregas. Si es que le hacía falta un poco de aire fresco a este puercoespín azul… Os dejo aquí el vídeo

June is fast approaching. This means lots of new toys for us to play with in the wireless industry. But which toys will we see launched? This isn’t prime Holiday season, so we’re not looking at all of the main stream handsets hitting shelves, Summer is usually reserved for the launch of wireless products that make up a small percentage of overall market share; the smartphones.

What do we have in store? Apple is releasing the much anticipated iPhone OS 3.0 next week, this will give current generation iPhones a much needed shot in the arm. The new OS will allow third party push notification (not quite the multitasking we wanted, but close), MMS capability (now we can send picture messages to other phones), landscape keyboard, RSS capability (constantly keeping us fed with news from our favorite sites), universal search, the much sought after cut/copy/paste and hundreds of other new features.

This is likely to go live during the June 8 Apple event. There are also rumors about new iPhone hardware to be announced, but with it already being June, I’m guessing any new hardware announced won’t be released until next year. This makes Apple’s showing a little mixed. Great new software to make the iPhone closer to perfect, but most likely, no new 2009 model of the touch screen phenom.

Next up, we have Palm. That’s right, you heard me right. Palm returns to the ring after the Treo has been beaten up and smacked around. This time with the Pre. The Palm Pre promises all the functionality of the iPhone, plus everything the iPhone lacks. Touch screen interface, physical QWERTY keyboard, full HTML browser, AGPS maps it even promises a full app store at launch… in two days.

Originally, the Pre was slated for a Q4 2009 release, but marketing pushed up the tech deadline to June 3 to beat out Apple’s iPhone OS 3.0 and any possible hardware announcements.

Again, mixed feelings are stirred up. An absolutely awesome mobile device, created by one of the two companies responsible for the PDA movement, but with the chance it may be rushed out before it’s ready. Add to this that at every con and expo that Palm has shown off the smartphone; nobody but the Palm guys have been able to touch the Pre, makes me a little worried.

RIM has added numerous updates of all their current blackberries with spectacular success in unit placement. It’s pretty safe to say that most Blackberry users are happy with the software and hardware updates of late. However, no announcements for June.

Finally, Android makes a reappearance on June 2. Not only will the HTC Dream make its debut in Canada on the Rogers network, but HTC will release the long awaited Magic. What’s new in this Google Android version? Nothing, it’s still a similar build as the Dream, but the hardware is where it’s at this time.

The Magic has addressed several issues found on the dream. First of all, sheer size. Shaving off a third of the dimensions of the Dream, the Magic is millions of times easier to handle. The slightly raised mic piece has been made flush, so that using the new soft touch keyboard will be easier and the resistive touch screen promises higher responsiveness than previous HTC devices (they should really change to conductive glass).

The big gripe about The Magic? It’s not a big enough hardware upgrade for the Android platform to justify moving from the Dream. For that we’ll have to wait for The Samsung i7500 in Q4.

With smartphones gobbling up wireless market share every year, a lot of mobile device creators are starting to rethink the June/July release dates. Many, like Samsung, are reversing their handset release strategies. Regular handsets in Summer, and smartphones in Winter. Either way, it should be fine for consumers, but personally, I prefer this way. With the smartphones released this Summer, it’s going to be like Christmas in July.

I love summertime.  And I also love mobile phones.  It’s Memorial Day weekend so I’m ramping up for summer.  But I haven’t had a new mobile phone to play with in quite a while.  Unfortunately, I won’t have a new phone for awhile.  OK, you shouldn’t feel too sorry for me as I’m angling for a Pre when it ships in two weeks.

In the meantime, my wife and kids were up for new phones last weekend.  And so we bit the bullet and renewed our subscription with Verizon.  Actually, it wasn’t that hard of a decision as most carriers make the renewal process quite simple – and desirable.  My kids got new “throw-away” phones (i.e., Palm Centro’s).  And I talked my wife into a BlackBerry Storm.  Yeah, I know it isn’t hard to talk someone into a touch phone.  And I was surprised that we didn’t switch to AT&T in order to get an iPhone.  But network availability trumped everything else.  We had to have a ubiquitous network that worked in the house as well as in our kids dorm rooms.  So Verizon got the nod.

My wife really loves the Storm.  It has a spectacular camera.  And the touch screen is quite nimble.  But my wife was really having trouble with the phone.  First, the phone would periodically become sluggish – and even halted once.  Second, the great camera was terrible.  Specifically, my wife would launch the camera app and it would take 3-7 seconds just to launch.  Worse still, it would take 5-10 seconds to snap a picture.  This was totally unacceptable.  We have a new granddaughter in the house.  And Cindy needed a camera that wouldn’t require the subject to hold still.  Yeah, Cindy has a Nikon D70.  But who wants to pull out the bulky (but versatile) DSLR for some candid snaps?

So I decided to get in research mode and see if there was anything I could do.  For a very long time, I had used custom firmware loads for my WiMo phones.  Indeed, I loved my HTC Apache for just that very reason.  I had no idea if the BlackBerry could be customized.  But I was willing to look.

Wow! The BlackBerry experience is replete with custom firmware.  Better said, there are a whole lot of “leaks” from RIM to choose from.  Indeed, RIM provides plenty of tools to install their uncertified builds.  And there are equally as many tools to deploy “hybrid” builds (otherwise know as “kitchen builds” for the WiMo crowd).

So my task was simple.  I just had to download the deployment tools, select a relevant build and convince my wife that I should be allowed to monkey with her phone.  The first two steps were the easiest.  [Note: Cindy was remarkably willing to do this.  I can only assume that she was so dissatisfied with the camera's sluggishness that she was willing to cede control to me.  In any event, she said "yes" - so I was off to the races.]

The biggest technical challenge was finding a good build to deploy.  I was stunned about how dissatisfied folks are with the BlackBerry 9530 (Storm) and its camera.  And I was equally stunned by the apparent indifference Verizon was showing to its customers.  There have been several builds that have been worthy of release (and support).  But Verizon has continually deferred for one reason or another.  The cynic in me says that they do not want to improve the Storm too much as they need to have a reason for folks to upgrade to the Storm 2.  Nevertheless, I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt.  I think that they want to ensure a stellar experience.  And after seventy-three (73) successive builds, I think that Verizon may very well certify the 4.7.0.148 build as the next official release for the Verizon 9530.

But I can’t wait for Verizon to finish their internal wrangling on the matter.  So I decided that .148 would be the build for our family.  So I began the deployment process.  I can’t say that the process went without any trepidation.  There were a couple of desktop reboots that were part of the process.  I found that quite odd.  I can understand the phone restarts.  But desktop restarts?  I was getting worried that this might not work as I was running it from my Windows 7 desktop.  Fortunately, everything went superbly.  After numerous desktop and phone restarts, the phone was upgraded with a sparkling new OS – and it is superb.

The new build is substantially faster and more responsive than the stock .75 build.  And up until now, the system appears to be more stable.  [Note: I want to see the phone running for a month before I call it more stable than the supported build.]  Most importantly, the camera is immensely better.  There is still a bit of a lag between depressing the physical camera hot key and hearing the shutter sound being emitted from the speakers.  But overall focusing time is drastically better.

In addition to deploying a new phone OS build, I needed to set up the phone for syncing with iTunes.  Right now, I have the master song library on my desktop.  So I deployed the Media Sync software on my Windows 7 system.  Unfortunately, I did not have the seamless experience I wanted.  The software installer balked at Windows 7.  Fortunately I was able to execute the installer in Windows XP compatibility mode and the install proceeded w/o further fuss or muss.  Once installed, the app itself ran with nary a problem.  Now I need to focus my attention on configuring Cindys instance of iTunes so that it can access my music library from her desktop.  Once done, I can set Cindy up to manage her own sync with the phone.

All in all, the Storm is a fabulous piece of hardware.  And BlackBerry has a whole lot of tools to ensure that the software remains up-to-date.  It’s a shame that Verizon can’t marry the two advantages together and certify a new build for the Storm.  Once they do, they will have an exceptional platform.

program buat selingkuh….tiap ada SMS & telp dari “no.khusus” lgsg ada icon kecil di pojok atas sebagai indicator, & lgsg masuk folder khusus berpassword.

kalo dah ada program seperti itu di b.berry, let me know boys…^O^

iPhone vs Blackberry, Mana yang Lebih Tahan Banting?

San Francisco – Persaingan di pasaran smartphone antara Apple iPhone dan Blackberry besutan RIM terus berjalan sengit. Namun untuk soal ketahanan, manakah yang diklaim lebih tahan banting?

Berdasarkan studi SquareTrade, perusahaan layanan garansi independen, Blackberry dinyatakan punya tingkat kerusakan dua kali lipat daripada iPhone di tahun pertama penggunaan.

Dalam studi ini, SquareTrade meneliti sekitar 15.000 handset yang ditangani perusahaannya. Terungkap bahwa pada tahun pertama, 5,6 persen pemakai iPhone melaporkan adanya malfungsi. Sementara untuk Blackberry, angkanya mencapai 11,9 persen.

Adapun untuk smartphone populer lainnya yang edar di Amerika yakni Treo, persentasenya lebih buruk, yakni sebesar 16,2 persen pengguna melaporkan adanya kerusakan di tahun pertama pemakaian.

Kerusakan yang paling banyak menimpa iPhone adalah yang terkait dengan layar sentuhnya, mencakup sepertiga dari seluruh kerusakan yang dilaporkan.

“Tak hanya memainkan peran penting dalam industri ponsel, iPhone sepertinya juga punya standar cukup tinggi dalam soal ketahanan,” demikian pendapat dari Devin Thomas, Analytics Manager SquareTrade yang dilansir MarketWatch dan dikutip detikINET, Rabu (12/11/2008).
