A już w szczególności jazz, jaki reprezentuje Bohren & der Club of Glory.

The Evolution of Black Hair
www.jazma.com

Due to our multicultural heritage, one cannot pinpoint just one type of ‘typical’ African American hair. African American hair varies from fine to medium to coarse and it can be straight, wavy or tight. Color-wise it ranges anywhere from blonde to red to varying shades of browns to black. The hair of blacks is usually more coarse, has a tighter curl pattern and is more naturally delicate than the hair of Caucasians or of Asians. It is also more vulnerable to damage from harsh chemicals.

African American hair has the same chemical structure as other hair types. The difference is with the wave, curl and bonding pattern. The tighter the bond, the more curly the hair is. When slavery ended in the 1860s there were many blacks who were very knowledgeable concerning European hair care. It was then that blacks began to work in beauty and barber shops in their own communities and these establishments became more and more important in the economic and social structure within the black communities. These businesses were not only a place blacks could go to get their hair done, but also served as locations where blacks could congregate and discuss the goings on in their community. Beauty and barber shops provided a unique social function and that remains so today.

If you find a baseball cap or hat of any kind has suddenly become your trademark, it’s time to

If you find a baseball cap or hat of any kind has suddenly become your trademark, it’s time to get to a salon. The single best thing you can do to immediately improve the look and condition of your hair is a great precision hair cut.

Just moved to a new location or city or maybe just looking for a new stylist? The very best way to find a skilled new stylist is this. Stop people whose hair you admire (great cut and superb condition and even better if their hair has a similar natural texture as your own), and ask them where they get their hair done. Time and time again we have new clients that say they had to come and check us out because the last 5 people they stopped, whose hair they admired, all said they come to Jazma. I have always found without exception, that people are happy to refer you to their salon and stylist, if asked. Unless we know a stylist personally and their work, this is the only way we recommend to our clients to find a new salon and stylist when their job or other reasons force them to have to relocate to another city or country.

You don’t have to be an expert to know when something looks good and was done by a skilled craftsman in any trade. Be it great hair cuts and styles or anything else that takes experience and skill in to produce a fine result.
Split ends cannot be repaired by treatments or conditioners, period. Just as when you tear a fingernail, it has to be trimmed before the tear continues to worsen, you cannot repair it. The same goes for your hair. If you have split ends you must trim them before they continue down the hair shaft making your hair in a much worse state.
Always style your hair using a wide toothed comb. The teeth should be rounded on the ends to avoid scratching the scalp and without any seams from manufacturing which can snag on your hair and tear it .
When using a curling iron always use one that has a temperature control, that way it cannot become too hot and burn your hair. We recommend always using a thermal styling spray before curling for added protection against the heat. And never use a curling iron on dirty hair.
When you blow-dry your hair before curling, blow dry it to a point where there is still a slight bit of moisture left in your hair. By not blow-drying your hair completely dry before curling and styling, this will allow you to use less heat for less time in order to curl your hair. It’s kind of like when you iron cloths, if they are very slightly damp before ironing, or if completely dry if you spray them a little with a water bottle just before ironing. They will take an iron quicker and hold the press longer than when you iron an item that is completely dry. If your hair is dry, just give it a very light misting with a water spray bottle to bring up its moisture level before curling.
Be careful when brushing Black hair that is relaxed, colour treated or permed because of its weaker condition from doing these chemical processes to it. When your hair is growing out, it is weakest where the already processed hair meets the new growth, and improper brushing may snap the strands at this point.
Liquid hair styling tools such as mousse, hair sprays or gels when used at the base of your hair near the scalp add lift and volume to your hair. When they are used at the ends they add weight.

Since most people do toss and turn while they sleep you should never go to bed with your hair in rollers or pony tails. This tossing and turning during sleep with rollers or pony tails, may cause the hair to pull and break.
Really try to refrain from putting your hair into ponytails. We find they tend to put too much stress on the hair, and the bands ( elastics are the very worse) cause breakage when putting them in and taking them out.
If you find your hair tends to tangle or mat at night when you sleep, try using a satin pillow case to sleep on.
If you want a longer hold for your style when using a curling iron, try spraying the hair before you iron with a thermal styling spray.
When you get over 35 years of age your face will be affected by gravity and the natural aging process. It’s a gradual thing, but after a certain age longer styles will start to make you appear older rather than youthful. As you gracefully age, we recommend that you try keeping your hair in shorter styles, which generally speaking are more attractive on mature women.
To increase the texture on thick or wavy hair, long layers will boost up the wave and curl.

Always communicate clearly with your stylist, letting them know your exact wishes and the goals you wish to achieve for your hair. This way you will not end up with a cut or chemical service that you’re unhappy with. Ensuring a flow of constant clear communication will in turn allow your stylist to please you, and not disappoint you, and maybe loosing you as their client.

If you do end up with a cut or chemical service you are dissatisfied with, call the salon and let them know. True professionals will always welcome feedback from their clients of both a positive and negative nature. A reputable salon will do all it can within reason to satisfy an unhappy client. But please call right away to allow them to see the problem when it is still fresh.

What is a Wash & Wear Relaxer™? A Wash & Wear Relaxer™ is the technique and process of worki

What is a Wash & Wear Relaxer™?

A Wash & Wear Relaxer™ is the technique and process of working with your hair’s own natural texture using our curl releasing agent to create a more desired texture, as well as to achieve more softness and manageability in the hair. When you have Wash & Wear Relaxed hair, it offers you the versatility of wearing straight styles, by being able to wet-set or blow drying your hair as often as you choose, or the opportunity of having as we say, wash and go no fuss hair. We accomplish this by using precise section timing and some very unique, some might say revolutionary “off the scalp” application methods we have developed, that we have proven over the years is the safest way to relax hair. Our goal is to take your hair to its optimum curl release point, which varies from individual to individual, and by doing this allowing you to wear your in hair smooth styles or in a more semi natural look.

We have found that hair of African descent and super curly hair types tend to break more easily when taken to “bone straight”, as has been the traditional way to do relaxers for many years. Part of what we found that causes this problem with breakage to occur is that when your hair is taken to a “bone straight” state, you are actually removing most of the hair’s vital elasticity and strength. By taking the hair to a Wash & Wear state, we have found that people who formerly didn’t think their hair grew much, now find their hair at much longer lengths and in superb condition and with much more body and shine to their hair.

Michael Amott:

„So Leute, hier nun endlich ein erster Appetizer zu “The Root Of All Evil”!

From March 10th to March 25th, Frank is visiting the good old US of A. First a 6 day trip to Portland, to visit ZXZW artist Khris Soden. After that, Frank is visiting the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. He will try and write a blogpost a day on his whereabouts.

Austin once again. Haven’t visited it since I played here with my band 4 years ago, but kept in touch with the guys from a band called Black Earth. Dave, the bassplayer, hooked me up with sleepingplaces at his place. Me, Bartman (Peter Pan Speedrock) and his girlfriend Angelique are staying at Dave’s place for the week. He has a nice place in the suburbs of Austin, together with his wife Meagan, and 2 dogs and a cat. I got a room of my own, again. How cool!

Met Ving Ra (his name is composed of his two idols, Lee Ving (Fear) and Sun Ra), the singer of Black Earth. Haven’t seen him in four years to. He came over on the night we arrived. We had some really good fajitas from the BBQ, and it was nice to catch up with everybody. Ving had the coolest stories about this strip-joint he’s working now, and this stripper he dates. Went to bed, to catch up on my sleep, pretty early though. There were some hard times ahead of me in Austin!

On tuesday, the festival hasn’t officially started yet, we decided to go down to the city to have something to eat, and shop a bit. Dave dropped us off at Polvo’s, a place right next to the house he used to live downtown, where we all stayed four years ago. Cool to see the place again, great memories. Too bad the sold it and changed it completely. Anyways, we had some great Mexican food at Polvos. Bart had a steak half the size of the state of Texas. Man, people can eat here! We also had some nice margaritas. Holidays had just begon!

We walked to South Congress, one of the major roads that go into the city, and divides the city in the East and Wester part. It goes all the way down to the Congress building. It really gives you a nice view on the city. On Congress, there are all sorts of cool vintage clothing stores, oddities, some bars, tatoo parlors, etc. We did some shopping, and split up for a while, to go our own ways. I took a cab downtown, walked aroud a bit more, but there was not much more to find. Well, except for hundreds of annoying ” pretend to be” Irish people, wearing green stuff. It was also St. Patricks day, and people were already drinking like there was no tomorrow.

After a walk in the downtown area, we met up at the Headhunters bar, owned by notorous louthmouth Loony, who was, ofcourse, louthmouthing us all the time. We played at the place four years ago, and it was a nice return. Cool thing is, that Billy Milano (S.O.D., M.O.D.) works there too. Him and Loony weere shouting to eachother the whole time we were there, guess they had to keep up an image. It was pretty entertaining though. We sat there for an hour or so, and then the guys from Madball walked in for a beer. They were playing in Red7 tonight. We might go. Angelique decided to go outside for a smoke at one point, taking her beer with her. Well, it’s not a capitol crime in Texas, but they sure treat you that way. If you take a beer outside, I think they will probably shoot you or something. It is illegal to drink outside, and they are really, really uptight about it. Anyways, We had a few more drinks (inside), saw a crappy punkband, and Dave came to pick us up, to go back to the house, change, pick up Meagan, and go back into the city.

We returned to the downtown area and went to Jackalopes on 6th street, to have burgers and some beers. Jackalopes was a really big place with a gigantic patio, with two big trees and a fire in it. It looked really cool and dark. The played the cooles music, from the Misfits to the Dicks. It was really crowded. Imagine having a place like this at home. Would be awesome! After the burgers we went to Red River again, where we got to the Red Eyed Fly, the venue where Honky was scheduled. We played there 4 years ago with The Spades, it was cool to see it again. Today was a trip down memory lane anyways. Honky got on at 1 pm. and before that, nothing much was playing wich was worth wasting my ears on. We had a chat with Sean, the former drummer of Black Earth. Cool dude, haven’t seen or spoken to him in years too.

After crappy band #3, Bart, Angelique and me decided to walk around the corner to see Madball. They played at the outside stage of Red7, and there were about 400 people there, waiting for them. They kicked ass live. Freddy Madball truly is one of the hardest dudes around. They played a lot of classics, and the place turned into a frenzy. Stagediving, singalongs, moshing, but in a really cool way. Shit was on!

After Madball, we returned to the Red Eyed FLy, where Honky was about to get on. Honky is the heavy rock trio with Jeff Pinkus of the Butthole Surfers (or Poepgatse Plankzeilers, as we like to call m in Holland) in it. Don’t know who the other 2 members were, but the sure as hell rocked. That singer / guitarist was one of the funniest and best guitarists I have seen in years. He fucking ripped. He should be world famous, but I heard his claim to fame is being the roady of Down nowadays. That probably explained why Pepper Keenan (guitarist of Down, Corrosion of Conformity) was standing in front of me. He got up the stage and sang along with the last song. Pretty cool to see him in the wild, because the last time I saw him during the Roadburn festival, he was walking around with a bodyguard….. damn Americans….

After the Honky show, we decided to go home. We met some of the guys in Moistboys by the way, a project with members of Kyuss and Ween. Nice dudes, they are playing on thursday, so we will most definitally check that out. Dave just about knows everybody in town, so that’s pretty cool. We went home to sleep. 4 more days of mayhem ahead of us!

On Friday we (i.e. 2 Brits, a German, an Estonian, an American and 4 Austrians) went to Divnogore, a monastery complex built into some chalk cliffs. It was a two and a half hour trip in a minibus, on Russian roads, and it honestly felt like a roller coaster. Luckily we got there in one piece and what we saw was pretty impressive.

We went inside, through all the tunnels and different rooms, which was fun. It was really cold inside and they were changing the lighting system so we all had to carry candles. It was kind of spooky. After that we climbed 400 steps to the top of the hill, where there used to be a chalk fortress. It’s not there anymore but here’s how it did look.

It was so peaceful at the top, and the view was absolutely amazing. We could see for miles around and there were no towns or settlements, just trees and fields. It was so beautiful and Ross had visions of himself riding off into the sunset on a horse, no other people – the dream life!

I am heading to South by Southwest in a few weeks and there are 20 bands going to be there with the word Black in their names.
