C’est une première pour moi : je me lance dans l’électro ! Enfin non, pas tout à fait, pour le moment j’en suis juste à chroniquer le nouvel album de David Guetta. Surprenant certes, mais après tout pourquoi pas ? Au fond, qu’est ce que je connais de ce quarantenaire hormis sa chevelure de feu et ses quelques tubes giga commerciaux ? Pas grand chose en somme. En plus, pour son quatrième effort, l’ancien DJ des Bains Douches s’est entouré d’une armada d’artistes Hip Hop, autant dire que le moment était idéal pour découvrir un peu mieux ce grand nom de la musique électronique. One Love fait donc suite à Pop Life – dont était extrait le célébrissime « Love Is Gone » – et semble bien parti pour retourner de nouveau les clubs les plus branchés de l’hexagone. Analyse.

Jusqu’à présent, David Guetta était pour moi le stéréotype même de l’imposteur, le salopard qui se faisait (pardonnez moi l’expression) des « couilles en or » en produisant chaque année un méga hit réchauffé. Puis, quand un ami et grand spécialiste en musique électro/house* s’est dit bluffé par le set du DJ lors de l’édition 2009 de Unighted, mon opinion sur lui a changé. Dans mon esprit, il est passé du clubber bateau au producteur susceptible d’avoir un minimum de talent. D’où cette chronique et l’intérêt porté à son album.

Alors en fait, David Guetta sur disque – du moins sur celui ci – c’est à la fois comme / et pas comme je l’imaginais. C’est à dire qu’une partie de son œuvre se compose de morceaux très commerciaux, dont le seul but est de faire décoller les ventes et d’accroire un peu plus sa réputation de ‘hit maker’. Dans ce lot, on aura coutume de citer les inévitables (mais efficaces il faut l’avouer) « When Love Takes Over » (feat. Kelly Rowland) et « Sexy Bitch » (feat. Akon), ridiculement rebaptisé en « Sexy Chick » par les radios. Auxquels viendront probablement s’ajouter dans un futur proche « It’s The Way You Love Me » (feat. Kelly Rowland) et l’éponyme « One Love » avec Estelle. De manière générale, ce genre de titres m’insupportent et n’ont, selon moi, aucun intérêt majeur mis à part peut être le dernier nommé. Voilà, en quelques exemples, les raisons qui m’ont amené à penser que David Guetta n’était qu’un profiteur aucunement méritant du succès qu’il connaît. Seulement voilà, le DJ possède une face cachée que j’ignorais jusqu’alors, nettement plus intéressante, et qui plus est moins connue. Dans le jargon musical, et j’imagine que ce terme s’applique également à l’électro/house, on a coutume d’appeler ça de l’underground. Mais venons en au fait car ces morceaux-là sont en définitif les plus intéressants.

 One Love pourrait presque se découper en deux axes : l’un, très hype, incluant tout le début de l’album jusqu’à « Choose » comprit. Puis l’autre, nettement plus ringard, allant de « How Soon Is Now » à la fin. Bien entendu, les meilleures pistes se trouvent dans la première moitié, du côté « cool et branché » donc. Dans ce gratin – pourrait-on dire – fleurissent le puissant « Gettin’ Over » feat. Chris Willis, le très Kid Cudien « Memories », la bombe « On The Dancefloor » co-produite par Will.I.Am et enfin « Missing You », chanté par le rappeur et producteur Novel. De cet enchainement se dégage rapidement le quarté gagnant du disque. Car en comparaison, la suite vire clairement côté mauvais goût, et ce n’est pas l’horrible « Choose » qui me fera mentir. Même si le remix d’ « I Gotta Feelin’ » redonne le sourire, la musique de fête foraine reprend vite le dessus. Dans le genre, « How Soon Is Now » récolte la palme du morceau le plus beauf, quoique « The Sound Of Letting Go » mérite lui aussi les applaudissements. C’est simple, on se croirait à un concert de Cher ou devant des autos-tamponneuses ! Revirement étonnant car la première partie de l’album retranscrit parfaitement l’ambiance branchée des grands clubs parisiens.

Quoi que l’on dise, quoi que l’on fasse, David Guetta restera avant tout un ‘hit maker’ plus qu’un immense artiste. Et même si son rapprochement avec les Black Eyed Peace fut plutôt réussi, il lui reste encore un long chemin à parcourir avant de se lancer pleinement dans la production Hip Hop. Néanmoins, son travail avec Kid Cudi et Will.I.Am est salutaire, preuve que malgré les préjugés, notre petit David national en a sous la pédale. One Love m’a prouvé que derrière les tubes en guimauve à la « Sexy Bitch », il était capable de produire de vraies bombes authentiquement électro. Cependant, prouver est une chose, séduire en est une autre, et il en faudra plus pour que le DJ à la chevelure de feu parvienne définitivement à me conquérir.

On the Gayo Daeju’ Awards Epik High together with Brown Eyed Girls and Eun Ji Won performed a Koreanized version of the well known song ‘Where is the love?’. In my opinion I have to say that it was magical, or at least the rapping was. Epik High and Eun Ji Won really did a fantastic job!

But every performance has a flaw, right? And this performance biggest flaw was probably Ga In’s lack  of English skills. Even if her singing vocally were great, her English enunciation still needs to be polished up a bit. Sorry, but it’s true. Even though, it still was a great performance which I at least liked.

Oh noes, the kids from the Korean kindergarten have escaped! We have to put them back in their daycare center before they get raped by the older fan-boys they’ll soon be having, as the jail-baits they are!

By the way, I hope you all remember Sweety; the band that debuted in July with their “Hayanbyeol”, but haven’t done so much since then? Well, last I checked they were busy playing kid’s games with Tae Min. No, but seriously have they like been prisoners in an underground cage the last past months or something? In that case, I don’t really see why because they are talented! But the song they performed in their latest performance had a freaky resemblance to the black eyed peace song ‘where is love?’.
