I am currently watching the 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert and it is truly something that is just out of this world.
I had heard a couple of months ago on Howard Stern where they were going over the concert and all of the performers and just to think of the lineup that they were talking about, just made me wish that I was there in person being the music junkie that I am.
But now thanks to HBO they are rebroadcasting the concert and let me tell you WOW…is this an All-Star lineup…They have U2 on stage right now, which are just amazing in concert where I went to go see them earlier this year in Norman, OK…man did they put on a show, and their opening act The Black Eyed Peas were out of this world with an onstage presence that is extraordinary.
Currently, U2 just finished bringing up Bruce Springsteen to sing With or Without You. Then right after that they go straight into a song with Black Eyed Peas, U2 and Mick Jagger on vocals. I have never seen the Rolling Stones live but I can only imagine that their concerts are pretty cool to experience.
Later after U2, they are bringing up Bruce Springsteen and the legendary E Street Band playing all of their best tunes, which I can say I have seen in Philly earlier this year with my buddy Marc Accetta. To see Bruce Springsteen live in itself was an event that I had always wanted to experience but then to see him amongst East Coasters it was that much more of an experience. He has singing with him Crosby Stills, John Forgerty and many others…wow, I am so glad that I am seeing this concert and definitely recommend it for anyone out there that is a music fan. Right Wing Pundits and Conservatives are up in arms over a controversial new piece by L.A. Street Artist, SABER. He recently released a video in which he is shown painting a mural of an American Flag that is slowly covered with messages about why the United States really needs Health Care Reform. The video is one of 20 that have made to the final round of the DNC’s “Health Reform Video Challenge” and will be judged by Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane, Actress Rosario Dawson, Will I. We do know for a fact that among the slew of memberships on charitable boards, Tareq Salahi is a former member of The American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP). The only way to know for a fact is because even though ATFP scrubbed all references to Salahi as a board member, he can still be found on Google cache. (Canada Free Press)

Sad that White House Secret Service are looking like Keystone Kops in the aftermath of Obama’s very first state house dinner in the tent.

Google has a thing for scrubbing anything that might shine a negative light on BHussein. They even removed the term “climategate” from their drop down search menu. It was there several days ago.

While the media is fixated on the hitch in Michaele Salahi’s git-along, there can be no doubt that these recently minted “party crashers” really get around.

We take you back to June 9, 2005 when Tom Nelson, operating officer of AARP, was summing up the Rock the Vote Awards night. According to the Washington Post “everyone from Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama to “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson and R&B singer Mya gathered in the National Building Museum’s Great Hall:

“You were probably wondering, as you sat down at your table, ‘What the heck is the AARP doing in a Rock the Vote Event?’” Nelson noted.

Time would soon tell that the AARP would show up in other fishy places.

And if there is anyone who must know that this weekend’s party crasher story is a crock it’s John McCain who was at the Vote Awards Night, and who along with Barack Obama, was honored with the Rock the Nation Award, Obama “for forming a multiracial coalition in winning his seat”.

McCain was handed his award for “his work on campaign finance reform”. “Just call me Funk Master McCain,” he told the audience of 1,000 in accepting his award.: (washingtonpost.com, June 9, 2005.

Hey, McCain. How about you stop cheezin’ it up over an award and tell BHussein how to work on a GODDAMN BUDGET. Yeah, I get it. Fat chance.

Meanwhile, don’t know why Obama’s long time associates possibly could be mistaken for party crashers when they came into the tent with a Bravo Reality TV Show “Real Housewives of DC” professional camera crew and makeup artist in tow unless he was hoping for a Reality gig for wife Michelle, CBS celebrity Katie Couric or Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Well, at least they didn’t use their child as a tool in order to get a spot on a Reality TV show. We ALL remember BALLOON boy. Fucking idiots.

Obama could end the “party crasher” goose chase for White House Secret Service in a proverbial New York Minute by coming clean on his almost 5-year-old social/political relationship with Tareq and Michaele Salahi.

It could save money in these recessionary times and put an end to the drama of Washington’s “unprecedented” first state dinner in a tent.

Wait; did THIS CanadaFreePress journalist just use “Obama” and “save money” in the same article? COME ON, NOW.

I usually pass over mainstream music just because well, I’m generally sick of it all.  However, there comes a time when a remix will just absolutely make a track.  This is what happens when the Black Eyed Peas are touched up by Van Scott. This remix is amazing! I actually had another track queued up in my mind to end the weekend but had to change it once I heard this.

I love the heavy electro bassline that rips this track apart all the way through.  Fergie’s vocals (I hate to admit it) top the track off when Scott uses the sample about three and a half minutes in  It’s an instant late night killer!

Hey y’all!

So, I think I have drafted this post three different times now.  With each draft, time just slipped away from me and what I’d written was no longer relevant.

For instance, the I began this post while I was writing a term paper for High Tech Marketing on the adoption of Electronic Medical Records…who can spell FUN!?!  The next time I started to write this post, it was the beginning of my fall “break” and time ended up getting away from me.  We call it a break at school because that makes everyone feel a little better about how hard we are working.  However, I will tell you that during my break I was on campus twice for school projects and at work for a couple of days as well.  Even with all of that going on I had so much fun this break – which is why time slipped away from me!

First, I found a local carniceria in Boulder where they sell pork hocks!!  This was a huge feat (no pun intended).  My mom and I have looked for pork hocks for some time to no avail.  In the South we use pork hocks for flavoring black-eyed-peas, field peas, and green beans.  Can you spell YUM?!?  After I met Mike I learned that he and his family regularly eat and make something similar to head cheese (which is something that we also eat in the south) called studenina.  The main difference is that his family uses pork hocks instead of pig head.   So, you can just imagine how happy we both were to have found a shop in Boulder – not the easiest town in which to find this type of food.  You better believe we made studenina.  I will share that recipe with you later when we have it perfected!  But in the meantime, here’s a picture:

Next, we ate deliciousness at our friend’s house for Turkey Day as I’m sure you all did.  As if we didn’t have enough food at Thanksgiving, the next day we ate the following: Egg McMuffin meal, Mexican food for lunch, moules frites for dinner, followed by a late night samosa for a snack.  I ended up in the ER that night with what I think was my third gallbladder attack.  Ha!  The last time this happened to me, I was eating a deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich.  A little tip for you: If you think you have a diseased gallbladder (usually runs in the family) you can always test it out by eating some really fatty food….just make sure to have some good pain meds on hand!

The day after my attack, we got a Christmas tree and decorated the house and made some Indian food with mom.  Today, I finally just sat down to finish this post and realized that I have to start over for a third time.  And so, for my third attempt I have shared the joys (and pains) with you of my lovely break.

As a digression, I must interrupt myself to make a delicious sandwich which I don’t have pictures of but I will share the recipe with you:

Rachael’s Sandwich-Inspired by my favorite ingredients

Ingredients:
1 poached egg
1 piece of Canadian Bacon
2 Tablespoons of goat cheese
1/2 avocado sliced
2 slices of your favorite sandwich bread
a little salt and pepper
your favorite hot sauce (optional)

1.  Toast your sandwich bread and spread the goat cheese on one piece
2.  Heat up a piece of Canadian Bacon (microwave is fine for 25 seconds) and put on the other piece of bread
3.  Put your sliced avocado on the Canadian Bacon side of the sandwich
4.  Put your poached egg on top of the goat cheese side….the cheese helps to grip the slippery egg and keeps it from sliding
5.  Add salt, pepper, and hot sauce to taste if you like
6.  Close the sandwich and enjoy!

Do you need a tip on poaching eggs?
I learned this from Mike.  Crack the raw egg in a coffee cup.  Fill a frying pan with enough water to cover an egg (about 3 inches) and about 2 tablespoons of white vinegar.  Bring the water to a boil and turn off as soon as it reaches a boil.  Then dip the cup (with the egg) in the water sideways (as if you were trying to scoop water out with the cup)and slowly release the egg.  Once you have released all of your egg into the poaching water, cover with a lid for about 8 minutes or so.  Use a slotted spoon to remove the egg from the water, blot with a paper towel, and you should have a perfect poached egg.

Back to the Soup
It would be a crime to write a post without some lovely pictures and so, back to the original intent of this post: a delicious soup that I make often.  I call it Carrot and Corn Soup. Very original, I know. I like to share this soup with others because I think it’s comforting, easy to make, easy to freeze, cheap and full of ingredients that you probably have around your house (aside from a couple of the spices).  Great for fall or winter, I based this recipes on several others that I have either tried or read about.

Carrot and Corn Soup
1 bag of carrots peeled and cut in half
8 ears of corn shucked, and boiled and cut off the cobs. (If corn isn’t in season, you can use a bag of frozen corn)
1 shallot peeled and diced
1 large onion peeled and diced
salt and pepper
1-2 tablespoons of olive oil
1-2 of those 48 oz cartons of chicken broth…probably only one and then if you need to add a little more you can always use some bouillon cubes and water
1/2 to 1 whole tablespoon of saffron
1/2 to 1 whole tablespoon of yellow curry powder

First prepare your ingredients with a mise-en-place:

Next saute your onions, shallots, and corn together in some olive oil:

Meanwhile boil your carrots for about 10 minutes:

Then add some broth and your saffron and curry to your corn, shallots, and onions:

Next, puree your corn mixture and carrots.  I use my processor but you could use a blender.  You will probably have to do this in several batches:

Lastly, mix together in your pot and serve.  It’s also nice (although I didn’t do it this time) if you fry up some prosciutto or pancetta and sage to serve on top!

There’s been much blogging around this new single but not any videos have been posted. We used to be bigger BEP fans back in the earlier days but not so much now. Perhaps we can’t see the talent through all the glam and overproduction??? But for those of you that can, more power..

2009 was a phenomenal year for sample-based music. Looking at the list of U.S. number-one singles of 2009 to date, it’s astonishing to see that no less than 6 out of 13 are based on samples:

• Crack a Bottle by Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent
• Right Round by Flo Rida feat. Kesha
• Poker Face by Lady Gaga
• I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas
• Whatcha Say by Jason Derulo
• Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys

And that is only the tip of the iceberg – many of this year’s best-selling albums, and countless others, are heavily sample-based. We truly believe that the WhoSampled community is doing something important (and really fun!) by documenting, sharing and discussing all of this incredible activity, past and present.

We’ve quietly launched the site just over a year ago, and what a year it’s been! The database, which started with just a couple of hundred samples, has recently crossed the important 10,000 samples mark, and hundreds more are being added every week. It’s good timing to have a quick pause for breath and tell you a little bit more about what we’ve done so far.

• We’ve been focusing hard on improving the moderation process to allow for all this incredible amount of contributions to be added efficiently to the database. We now have over 30 fantastic moderators from all over the world, who take care of processing everyone’s submissions – you can always see a list of our moderators on the About Us page
• We’ve recently added cover songs to the site, and the response has been great – we already have thousands listed!
• We added new buttons that allow you to easily share your finds on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace – you can find them on top of every sample, cover and artist page
• We’ve added the option to browse the database by genre, meaning that if you only want to look at Hip-Hop or Electronic artists, you now can
• We did a slight design facelift and added all sorts of small improvements across the site

Get it at Mitsukoshi!!

A few Twitter users will have noticed some users are posting tweets from something called Blip.fm.

Quite simply, it’s a free web page that allows users to post songs and videos to various social media sites – such as Facebook and Twitter.

It’s really pretty good – I didn’t really get into at first – but after giving it a fair try I’m getting into it now!

You can just tune in to favourite DJ’s (or rather people who also use Blip.fm). Other users select songs and their playlist builds up, and you can just select to listen to it.

To be more involved you can start to create your own playlists. This allows other people to then go to your list to listen to your chosen and growing selection of songs.

It’s quite simple – and a top way of finding long time forgotten songs, and discovering new ones you wouldn’t have otherwise thought about.

I particularly like searching through the “Mash Up” selections – song mixes such as Lady Gaga vs. Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.

For iPhone users there is currently an app called “Boombox Pro” which allows use of Blip.fm via the iPhone. It is a bit temperamental, but there are fixes for it. I have found that it failed totally after my first tries, but by resetting my application key in my Blip.fm settings/password section, Boombox started working again. It’s not faultless yet, as some of the playlist doesn’t update – but the search and Blip function works fine.

Hopefully, Blip.fm will bring out their own app soon… or Boombox will pull their finger out and sort out their bugs.

UPDATE: Received an email from Boombox designers today – They are working on fixes along with Blip.Fm. As that is the case I would recommend Boombox to anyone, simply because the app is a great idea, it almost works and the people working on it offer quick customer support. Good customer support is a must for me.

A cantora Rihanna revelou recentemente que pressionou o Will.I.Am, líder do Black Eyed Peas, para que ele cedesse a música “Photographs” para seu novo álbum, “Rated R”.

Eu estava no estúdio, era tarde e foi um dia antes da gente entregar o álbum para impressão. Eu voltei a casa dele e ele não queria tocar a música. Ele falava ‘ok Rihanna você veio para um quebra de braço?’ A história é tão… tão real”, confessou.

O interessante é que a música é, de fato, o estilo do Black Eyed Peas. A voz da Rihanna está bem no tom da voz da Fergie. A música é muito boa, mas, provavelmente o BEP deixou ela de fora de seu último disco para lançá-la num outro momento. Só resta saber quando a Rihanna vai sair em turnê com o Black Eyed Peas.
