Beauty Army Haul - Black Friday

Beauty Army offered some great deals during their Black Ops sale. I was able to score some great products at amazing deals AND use some rewards that I have earned doing surveys and reviews.
Here is what I ordered:

The Lashem gift pack that comes with two full size Lashem lash enhancing serums and one of their Double Trouble Mascara which is actually two mascaras in one. This was an insane deal! only $60 for the trio! It retails for well over $150, and the Lashem serum actually works. My lashes have really filled out a lot more, especially on the bottom. They are already naturally long, so I didn’t see any change in growth, but as far as fuller lashes – YES!

I actually received one of these in a Beauty Army box not too long ago, but I thought that maybe my sisters could use it. It is extremely handy!

I also ordered a Pear colored Unii pallette but there was a little issue with the order.

Hopefully that gets straightened out and in my hands soon!! I am already finding the makeup to put in it!!

The only line I waited in Friday was to scramble single file, hand-over-hand up narrow sections of Old Rag Mountain in Shenandoah National Park. Instead of waiting outside Best Buy all night for a 92″ flat screen TV, I hiked a couple of hours for 180-degree panorama views. And rather than be surrounded by throngs of other people… well, actually, Old Rag was pretty packed too. Guess I wasn’t the only one with the great idea to get out of the city.

On the USA’s biggest day of shopping, Black Friday 2012 saw online spending surpass the $1billion mark as sales increased by 26% from the corresponding day last year. Forecasters accurately predicted that new Black Friday records would be set and with a sum of $1.042billion (£624million) generated in a single day, the Christmas shopping season was truly underway.

Online vs Traditional Shopping

Black Friday’s spending results can be used as another convincing example of how consumer habits have drastically altered over recent years.With traditional retailers generating a lower Black Friday turnover (down 1.8%) compared to the previous year, it can also be argued that many consumers are taking to the internet in order to source the best deals and simultaneously avoid the swelling crowds in shopping centres. Amazon – a partner of Seller Dynamics- was the most visited retail website on Black Friday and posted its highest year-over-year visitor growth.

“E-commerce accounts for less than 10pc of consumer spending in the United States. However, it is growing much faster than bricks-and-mortar retail as shoppers are lured by low prices, convenience, faster shipping and wide selection.” - The Telegraph

E-commerce on your mobile

The increasing popularity and availability of smartphones and tablet devices has also been credited with the continuing boom in e-commerce over the last year with many online retailers providing apps to simplify online shopping whilst on the move. When compared with the previous year, eBay posted a Black Friday mobile transaction increase of 153% with PayPal posting a greater increase of 193%. The use of mobile devices has also affected prices of goods sold in shops with customers physically entering stores and carrying out a price comparison before requesting that the retailer match the best online price.

From Black Friday to Cyber Monday

While Black Friday is renowned for both traditional and online shopping, Cyber Monday has emerged solely as a result of e-commerce with early figures suggesting that a new Cyber Monday record has been set with online sales of up to $1.5billion (£900million), up by 27% on Cyber Monday 2011.

Black Friday 2012 (Or Was It Black Thursday?)

Did you eat too much and shop too much this past Thanksgiving Thursday? I definitely can identify with those that ate too much. I spent most of my holiday weekend eating! The leftovers are always available to heat up. The pies and other desserts are always sitting on the counter easily available for seconds or thirds and that I did! I did not get into the shopping too much. I’m not one to fight crowds to get a deal, although I know there are some great deals out there. Did you shop this year? What was your experience? If you recall Jennifer’s post from this day last year where she talked about credit card debt being up and the economy looking bleak, I wonder what your take is on things a year later? Do you feel the economy has improved? How does the manufacturing industry look? In my own clients I have seen things slowly improving. Bids seem to be coming back to the United States instead of being in China and production here is slowly increasing. All of these things are excellent signs. I believe we still have a long way to go, but I am optimistic that we are moving in the right direction.

Apparently people have more money to spend or they are sick of not spending because many stores reported record turnouts. For instance, Wal-Mart reported one of their best Black Friday turnouts ever, even better than last year. Wal-Mart was one of the few stores that opened on Thanksgiving Day. I know in my hometown, our store was filled to capacity and there was a half-a-mile long line of people waiting to get in. There were police officers controlling capacity by letting one person in for every person that left. That is a lot of people! Wal-Mart estimates they sold 5,000 items every second in each of their stores-I can hardly even fathom that! They sold more than 1.8 million towels, 1.3 million TV’s, 1.3 million dolls and 250,000 bicycles from 8pm on Thanksgiving through Black Friday.

Did any of you go to Wal-Mart or any other stores? I’d love to hear about your experience and your opinion on the direction of the economy. That is of course if any of you are actually doing any work today, or if you are finding more deals today on this Cyber Monday!

Today, Thanksgiving Day in United States of America, we celebrate and remember all the ways we are blessed. Let us not forget how privileged we are to have and can give some to others. I will never forget to thank God for everything and everyone that has made my life special.

I cannot name everyone or everything or I’d surely leave someone or something out. All I can say is that everyone will know who they are that I’m thankful for and those that don’t, chances are fairly good that you are not one of them.

Take time today to thank God and others for everything, good and bad, in your life. These are all what make you who you are today! I will now take time to thank you, each and every one of you for your support in this blog and for reading it!

Now, I’ll go to sleep early as I have to work (as I’ve said before) on Friday (the dreaded Black Friday). I don’t know how many more entries I will have between now and Christmas Eve, but know this much I will get back to it as soon as I can.

Black Friday is the name given to the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, traditionally the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. On this day, most major retailers open extremely early, often at 4 am, or earlier, and offer promotional sales to kick off the holiday shopping season, similar to Boxing Day sales in many Commonwealth Nations. Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many non-retail employers also observe this day as a holiday along with Thanksgiving, giving their employees the day off, thereby increasing the number of potential shoppers. It has routinely been the busiest shopping day of the year since 2005,[1] although news reports, which at that time were inaccurate,[2] have described it as the busiest shopping day of the year for a much longer period of time.[3]
The day’s name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.[4][5] Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that “Black Friday” indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are “in the black”.[4][6]
For many years, it was common for retailers to open at 6:00 a.m., but in the late 2000s many had crept to 5:00 or even 4:00.
