Fall is my favorite time of year for a few reasons: I love watching the leaves change colors, some of the best films make their debut in the fall, and there’s caramel apples everywhere. And, of course, there’s Halloween, the most fun and scary holiday of the year. In honor of this holiday, I have prepared a list of my favorite spooky music videos (sans any horror-core because that’s just too obvious). Enjoy!

*These videos contain one or more of the following: disturbing visuals, nudity, sex, viruses, monsters, drug use, deformities, or killers. Do not watch if you are underage or scare easily. These videos are not for you.

10. Shame by Stabbing Westward

Honorable Mention: Happiness in Slavery by Nine Inch Nails for its grotesque take on authoritative fetishism. (You must log into YouTube to watch this video. No minors please.)

And now a New Band of the Week…AFI!

I have been listening to this talented band for a while now. I’ve seen them transform with every album from goth punk to glam rock and again with their latest release Crash Love, a simple, stripped down, rock album. The new album is the perfect cure for the dreary days of fall. I absolutely love the epic chorus on “Beautiful Thieves.” You should also check out “Veronica Sawyer Smokes.” If you want some older AFI, I recommend “Summer Shudder,” “Celluloid Dream,” and “Days of the Phoenix.” I’ve seen them live a couple times and they are so awesome. They are currently on tour. I’m sad to say there are no west coast dates posted yet, but I know these Nor-Cal guys will not skip over the West Coast. You can see them live on MTV Ulalume airing Friday, October 30.

Stay tuned for #4

Eu nu cred ca m-am facut destul de clara, dar nu-i nimic, orice problema are rezolvare si nu ma las

Eu nu cred ca m-am facut destul de clara, dar nu-i nimic, orice problema are rezolvare si nu ma las pana nu va pun la punct cu problema mea absurda. V-am mai povestit in cateva randuri despre Cornel.

In toata splendoarea lui. Bineinteles, n-am fost atrasa de neuronii lui. Nici macar vocalizele lui induiosatoare. Chiar deloc.

Nu-i vine mintea la cap deloc odata ce-i rasar ridurile ciorchine pe fata. Acu, spre rusinea mea, n-as putea spune ca-s o mare cunoscatoare a operei sale. Asa ca ce-mi trebuie sa-i recunosc trilurile ? Destul cu pretiozitatea asta, eu pun piciorul in prag si aleg practicul.

Uuufufu, dilema-i grea si-mi intunericeste gandurile, dar va trebui sa trag o concluzie candva…

The weather in Asbury Park was perfect. The company was great. The guitars were screaming. Peter Frampton was putting on a wonderful show… and then there were technical difficulties…

Wait, I am getting ahead of myself, let’s backtrack a few years. In 2005 I tried to see Mr. Frampton live. The show was canceled, and subsequently postponed to a time where I was out of town. Since then, I have tried to see him play each time he has come within 100 miles of me, and each time I have been unable to make it for one reason or another… In case you couldn’t tell, I’m a fan of Peter Frampton, and I have been waiting a long time to see him play.

So, the show was on, and Frampton was great; he’s a guitar playing monster. His attack on solos is vicious yet beautiful, and his stage presence is equally aggressive, yet dignified. His band was on, he was clearly having a blast, and it reflected in the quality of his music. He was playing a nice mix of old and new, fan favorites and obscure new songs for the real fans… That became clear when he mentioned playing material from his Fingerprints album, and the response was cheers and clapping from a small portion of the audience (for the record, I shouted loudly).

He played a slightly edgier rendition of Show Me the Way, and killed on the instrumental, Boot it Up. Then sent my mind wandering with a beautiful performance of Lines On My Face. My only real complaint was that the acoustics were too bassy, but that seems like a recurring issue at the Stone Pony (among many other venues).

They had my attention completely. I was entranced and enthralled, sucked into their music in a way that only the best performers can achieve. Then Frampton announced that he was going to do his instrumental cover of Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun; I was so insanely happy. Every once in a while a band will play a song that you desperately want to hear, but don’t actually think they will play. This was one of those moments.

A few bars in, he suddenly stopped playing, and waved off the band. Something was wrong, but I honestly couldn’t tell what it was. The roadies were hard at work trying to fix his guitar rig while the audience watched a dark stage. After a while Frampton remarked, “Fucking computers!” and began playing an acoustic song (I can’t even remember what he played). After he finished, the stage went dark for a few minutes.

When he started playing again, one thing was clear; Peter Frampton was mad as hell. He played with a rage that is usually reserved for angsty teenagers. The rage served him well on Money, (I’ll Give You), where he swapped solos with guitarist Adam Lester; the back and fourth was wonderful. The rage wasn’t so great on Do You Feel Like We Do, but it’s such a classic anthem that no one cared.

After finishing Do You Feel Like We Do, he gave his guitar to his roadie and bolted off stage, never to return. The time was about 9:30, and he was scheduled to play until at least 10:15. He didn’t say a word to the audience about leaving. No “thank you.” No “I’m sorry that we had technical difficulties, I wish I could have given you more this evening.”

Nothing.

The man stormed off like a child. Worse still, it took about 15 minutes for anyone to step up to the mic and tell the audience that there would be no encore. I had already left because it was clear as day that the amps were off and the roadies were taking things apart, but I heard the announcement on the PA as I walked to my car.

Mr. Frampton, your audience did nothing wrong. There was no reason to act like a prima donna, and treat your fans with such disrespect. You are supposed to be a world class performer. You could have found a way to continue entertaining your fans, but you chose not to. You could have finished the show with a different set list, or done acoustic renditions of your songs. It wouldn’t have been the show you had planed, but it would have been memorable for being so different. Instead, I will remember this show because you were a selfish asshole (Example: Jordan Rudess after his keyboard broke during a Liquid Tension Experiment show in Chicago).

All you would have had to do was man up and apologize. I would have been disappointed, but I wouldn’t be pissed off.

yesterday, i took a nice calming trip to the mailbox. it’s a long walk, as i live on one and a half acres, but i enjoy it. a nice, peaceful country setting, frogs calling from the bog, birds chirping in the trees, and silence from motor vehicles. the sun was bright, there was dew on the grass, and i knew that in just a few short hours i’d be watching my hometown heros, the pittsburgh steelers, fight for a win. the day was perfect. until i reached my mailbox, open it up, and found a snake in my mailbox. a dirty little snake called a COBRA, in the form of a healthcare packet from whole foods to me.

what is this? could it be? oh my. oh golly gee!! they have released me from the limbo of not knowing. yup, it’s been decided. i had finally been terminated for not returning for my medical emergency leave by the due date of august 3. of course, my reaction was not such that of a 50’s television show. the frogs were moaning, the birds were squawking, there was screeching from the tires of cars coming to a fast halt, the sun dried up and was instead replaced with a dark black hole and the dew surrounding my feet was a murky slime that reached for my ankles, grabbing, taking hold and preventing me from walking at any pace other than slow motion. my mouth was open so wide, i thought a vulture would fly inside and tear me apart picking at me piece by piece until there was nothing left. similar to what whole foods had been doing to me since before i had even accepted the job.

i somehow escaped the outside world and safely made it inside the house where my devoted, by-my-side-no-matter-what (and lately there’ve been so many matters that the faint of heart would have strayed), hubby was resting in the living room. he couldn’t tell the horrors i had just escaped outside nor that i was walking across the living room with a giant snake, but in a moment his jaw was about to drop, too. cue the vultures.

“they did what?! are you serious? wow. how low. HOW LOW!!!” for someone who does not normally show too much emotion, he was riled up. as was i still. and with good reason. i still had not received a return email from my inquiry this past wednesday concerning my discount card denial. no one had gotten back to me either way concerning my employment since august 3. it was the 22nd of august, 19 days later, before i had actually been informed that i had been terminated. and i received this information not from my customer service team leader, not from his assistant, not from our payroll and benefits specialist and not from any of my store level management-NO ONE. i found out i had been fired from a snake in the mailbox; my COBRA packet told me.

i did finally receive an email yesterday basically explaining that the ball had been dropped because the p & b specialist was out for his wife’s birth, and the store manager was supposed to get in touch with me, and he, the customer service team leader, hadn’t really been involved. BS. i was a customer service manager, lest everyone forgets, at my job before this one. you don’t “drop the ball” when you’re in the middle of a termination. everyone is involved–the store manager, the customer service manager, the hr person. and you also don’t advise the employee of their termination solely by a COBRA packet in the mail. you sit face to face, you call them, you email them, you send them a formal letter in the mail.

i’m not upset because i was terminated. i knew that was to happen if i didn’t return to work by august 3. i still wasn’t physically able to work or return by that date, so i understood and accepted my fate. what i do not understand or accept is the utter lack of contact concerning this. the lack of decency and b*lls to pick up the phone and tell me. but to just let a COBRA packet do the firing for you? that is poor taste for whole foods.

Zwłaszcza w wersji akustycznej w wykonaniu Chrisa Cornella – byłego wokalisty Soundgarden, który ostatnio zasłynął utworem “You Know My Name” z filmu o Bondzie zatytułowanym “Casino Royale”. Oto ona:

Lekko psychodeliczny w zwrotkach i pełen mocy w refrenie. No i ten teledysk:

Do końca stulecia jeszcze sporo czasu. No i zawsze można posłuchać starych nagrań Nirvany, Soundgarden czy Pearl Jamu. To kawał dobrej muzyki!

the subject is “AutoTune” vs. “TalkBox” with the advent of T-Pain, this has

the subject is “AutoTune” vs. “TalkBox”

with the advent of T-Pain, this has become a “debate” is he using AutoTune or a TalkBox?

well i’m here to clear that up for any of you that are confused.

he’s using AutoTune a program by Antares, that is either a Rack Mount or a plugin on the recording software. Kanye West used this on his most recent “album” as well. which is good, because he CAN’T SING!!!

here is an example of AutoTune. they actually show you the setting on the computer.

this is the first time i remember hearing AutoTune on a song.

stupid YouTube wouldn’t let me have the original video.

so AutoTune doesn’t have to sound like an automated robot and i think both Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus need to have one on their rigs. i would use one if i was singing live on TV.

this is TalkBox. the difference. TalkBox takes some skill. this is a guy playing keyboard with it.

i love it how he is playing on what appears to be a Casio Keyboard.

now, in my opinion, the MASTER of the TalkBox. Peter Frampton.

and i would be remiss if i didn’t post this.

he uses the TalkBox at about 3:53 in the video to sing one of my favorite songs EVER!! it rocks believe me.

lots of videos today, but i hope i cleared up the “AutoTune” vs “TalkBox” confusion for many of you.

Still trailing in the wake of the Soundgarden’s recent near-reformation, Chris Cornell has been making more cryptic comments about a possible Soundgarden reunion.

When quizzed on the possibility of a reunion in a recent podcast, the Seattle native said he was “never going to count anything out.”

“There was never any bad blood between us” added Cornell. “I’ve always remained on great terms with everyone in the band. We’ve always been good friends. Seeing them reunite recently on YouTube? I thought that was terrific. It gave me a warm feeling. I wish I could have been there.”

Later in the interview, Cornell was again forced to defend his latest, Timberland produced LP, Scream, defiantly admitting: “I didn’t make this record to please my fans. I made it to please myself

“I already did Rusty Cage, I already did Black Hole Sun – I don’t need to do them again.

“The second you start writing to please people, you may as well be a short-order cook. That’s not me.”

Cornell also found time to comment on the ‘Twitter war’ involving him and NIN’s Trent Reznor, saying: “I haven’t read what he really wrote, but I think it’s kind of good, because it gets people talking about my record.

“This album is a huge challenge for me…getting people to talk about it, even if it’s from negativity, that draws people to it.”

About the equipment they used in their heyday…..

“For the record,” Thayil savs, “Soundgarden really don’t care about their equipment. We just like it if it’s loud and it works, Jason [Everman, briefly rhythm guitarist with Nirvana before replacing Hiro Yamamoto in Soundgarden] uses basses that don’t cost too much. He broke a bass that cost him $1500 one time. He broke three or four basses on this last tour. I was in the middle of a solo at L.A.’s Whiskey when I noticed the sound was kind of thin for this part of the song. I turned around, and saw Jason jumping up and down on his bass because it wasn’t working any more. I thought, ‘How are we going to top that on the next song?’”

Thayil is a bit more careful with his gear. He favors a Guild S-1 and a Les Paul Custom Light, played through a 65-watt Music Man head and whatever speakers are available, preferably something resembling four 12-inch speaker cabinets.

Vocalist/rhythm player Chris Cornell uses a Les Paul Custom cherry sunburst, played through Mesa/Boogie amps.

Jason Everman plays whichever bass is working this week through a Gailien-Krueger amp and speaker cabinet.

Here at Austin Dischord, we want to keep you informed of all the great music coming through our fair city. However, we also want to take it upon ourselves to make sure you don’t make any huge mistakes and pay money to buy a record or see a show you shouldn’t.

Example: Chris Cornell at Stubb’s Monday. Yes, Cornell used to be a part of one of the greatest grunge bands of all time in Soundgarden. And yes, he was also in a somewhat less good but still decent band in Audioslave. But now, he’s gone out of his mind. His most recent release, Scream, was produced with the help of affluent beatmaker Timbaland. That’s right, Timbaland. The record is a confusing mixture of generic rock riffs with electronically weird hip-hop beats. It’s not worth your time. Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, don’t go.

Your proof of how bad the new record is is below. Below that is a reminder of how good Chris Cornell used to be, just to show you how far he’s fallen.
