I have said before that “Emperor” Ed Rendell used his political clout to run these boys into the ground by way of his close relationship with the Usurper-in-Chief Obama. I was informed that the Allentown, PA federal office had declined to pursue indictments against the teenagers due to lack of evidence. I was further informed that Rendell, having previously admitted to having no knowledge of the case and in the same letter stating that it was obviously “a hate crime,” pushed to have charges filed through the Philadelphia office. Well, low and behold, the media admits the double jeopardy-violating charges come directly from United States Attorney General Eric Holder, who also happens to be an Obama sycophant.

So, what did Holder do about those racially-intimidating black panthers who were slurring caucasian voters during the 2008 election? Oh that’s right – that case was dropped. No hate crime there, right? Move along, nothing to see.

Of course, the brown Nazis (MALDEF) are peeing their pants, they’re so excited to see American teenagers treated this way.

WARNING..Coming to a street near you soon! Hundreds, if not thousands, of “At Risk” right-wing extremists are gathering across the nation to protest Global Warming!

It is important that you get as much information as possible about these mobsters. Take pictures, license plate numbers, and get descriptions. List any identifying characteristics such as carrot noses, coal black eyes, button noses, and funky clothing. They usually are dressed in white, but occasionally wear silk top hats and scarves. Their weapon of choice is a broomstick. They may sit in silence, but come to life at odd moments to surprise people. Their gatherings usually take place on dreary rather than sunny days. There have been accusations of them liking children, if you know what I mean. If you see someone smoking a corncob pipe, that is the leader of the mob. He goes by the sinister name of Frosty. Oh, and be aware, the true Snowmen have an unusual rallying cry.

“Thumpety thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpety thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.”

Recently added to Homeland Security’s Terrorist list, these cold-blooded “deniers” are popping up all over since the major blizzards began in the northern states. Call your local police immediately if these demonstrators get wild and disorderly. Better yet, call Janet Napolitano. She is making a list and checking it twice. She can determine if the specific group gathering in your area is known for being naughty or nice.

Janet will direct you to the proper authority for future demonstration elimination training, natural hazards and disaster recovery in case of a white-out. For immediate help and advice, Call toll-free at 1-800-PRAY-NOW. Please be aware that this gathering of crusty frozen protesters appears to be a seasonal problem that occurs around the time of the winter solstice.

Black Panthers and ACORN recently were funded to manage these problematic Aryan Snowmen in the future. The leader in the White House authorized the historic financial support for these two groups through an Executive Order, since all funding was ended by Congress. The action was fully supported by Charlie Rangle, Roland Burris, and Barney Frank among others. As they have done previously, the Justice Department also authorized a “see no evil” mandate that will protect those hired to disband these white, right-wing, militia Snowmen. It is rumored that the Snowmen are joining up with the known racist health care foes that Senator Sheldon Whitehouse spoke about in his Senate Floor speech. The White House Leader, then Senator Obama, Attorney General Holder, and Roland Burris saw this problem while living in Chicago. Unfortunately, Sen. Obama never authored legislation in Chicago preventing Snowmen gatherings like the ones now occurring across the US.

Lawsuits are being prepared questioning the formation of these unprecedented defense teams made-up of government endorsed and paid SEIU thugs, ACORN employees, and Black Panthers. Ebony magazine, part of the new White House media pool, asked Robert Gibbs about the constitutionality of the newly created defense teams. In Pelosi like language, he mockingly said, “Are you serious? Are you really serious?”

A recently leaked Homeland Security video entitled, “9 More Ways to Kill a Snowman” shows training maneuvers in Hardin, Montana on how the government plans to silence and destroy these ice cold, frozen, deniers. There is no constitutional authority for this training and it was not approved by Congress, but it is expected anyway. It is suspected that the law and its funding are deeply hidden within the Defense budget, Cap and Trade, or Stimulus II, or it might be within the Healthcare bill that Harry Reid and unknown writers crafted behind closed doors. Calls to Secretary Robert Gates for verification were not returned.

After viewing the video, an interview with the notorious Frosty was requested. Surprisingly, he denied my request. His associates had this to say:

“For Frosty the snow man
Had to hurry on his way.
But he waved goodbye saying
“Don’t you cry,
I’ll be back again some day
I’ll be back again some day!”

The Snowmen must remain vigilant and must use all methods of protection against these unconstitutional defense forces that are being trained to demolish and silence them. Snowmen are expected to go into hiding after the snow melts in 2010. Yet, be assured, this won’t be the last we hear about them, for they’ll “be back again some day.”

Watch with caution. This video will send chills through your body.

Now is the time to start securing the voting process,

because the enemies of America are already on the march to corrupt it and make it impossible to elect un-corrupt congress critters….

Worrying about health care now is one thing, but the biggest challange we really have, the one no one is talking about, is the voting process that uses SEIU, ACORN and other corrupting elements, (Poll site abuse by the Black Panthers) to make sure these enemies of America and democracy can never be removed…..

AMERICA YOU NEED TO WAKE UP and realize this is WAR

How much clearer must it be….I call on those Minutemen of old, and true partiots to start protecting the voting process and the courts who we are expected to get justice from because the enemies of America are hard at work with a Liar in chief in the oval office and his minions bought and paid for in the congress…just look at Reid and Peeeelosi…are these the people you want running your congress????

Just sayin’ is all.

The United States Civil Rights Commission, an eight-member agency that investigates accusations of discrimination, has launched a new offensive against a most unusual target: the Justice Department.

The commission is investigating why the Justice Department dropped charges in May against three members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense in a voter intimidation case that the government won.

The Justice Department has defended its actions, saying it obtained an injunction against one member while dismissing charges against the others “based on a careful assessment of the facts and the law.”

But that explanation hasn’t satisfied the commission or Republican lawmakers, who say the dismissal could lead to an escalation of voter intimidation.

Three members of the radical group were accused of trying to threaten voters and block poll and campaign workers by the threat of force in November 2008 — one even brandishing what prosecutors call a deadly weapon.

The three black panthers, Minister King Samir Shabazz, Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were charged in a civil complaint in the final days of the Bush administration with violating the voter rights act by using coercion, threats and intimidation. Shabazz allegedly held a nightstick or baton that prosecutors said he pointed at people and menacingly tapped it. Prosecutors also say he “supports racially motivated violence against non-blacks and Jews.”

Dec. 20, 2009

Fox News

The Obama administration won the case in April but moved to dismiss the charges in May without explanation.

After Republican lawmakers pushed in the summer for an internal investigation, the Justice Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility obliged, starting a probe that the department has said should conclude before it cooperates with the commission’s investigation.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., announced Thursday that he had inserted language into the annual Justice funding bill that requires the OPR to provide results of its investigation — a resolution that has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and must be voted on within 14 legislative days.

“I regret that Congress must resort to oversight resolutions as a means to receive information about the dismissal of this case, but the Congress and the American people have a right to know why this case was not prosecuted,” Wolf said in a written statement.

“Time and again over the last year, the department has stonewalled any effort to learn about the decision to dismiss the case,” he continued. “I have written Attorney General (Eric) Holder on six occasions asking for an explanation for the dismissal of this case. To date, I have received no response from him.”

The commission feels it is being stonewalled, too, and has filed subpoenas with the department for the information as well as to interview career attorneys that handled the case.

“They’ve never given a satisfactory answer,” said Todd Gaziano, a member of the commission and director of the conservative Heritage Foundation’s Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. “There is a heavy burden on the Justice Department to explain why those facts in the complaint do not constitute voter intimidation.”

When asked about the commission’s repeated requests for information, Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler said, “We’re reviewing the commission’s request.”

She told FoxNews.com that the civil division at the department reviews “these types of requests in accordance with longstanding guidelines governing the disclosure of internal department information.”

The commission is likely to hold a public hearing on the case early next year and could have a report out by September, Gaziano said.

The commissions sent two inquiries into the Justice Department’s dismissal of the case in June and received what it called a “largely non-responsive letter” from the Justice Department in July and none of the documents requested. The commission sent another inquiry in August and September when it said it received notification from the Justice Department that it would not provide any information until its internal investigation was complete.

That prompted the commission to issue subpoenas and send its latest missive this month, a response to a Justice Department letter in November that that the commission said challenged its authority to subpoena the department or its employees.

“While your letter refers to an ongoing ‘dialogue’ between the Department and the Commission, it is the dearth of cooperation on the part of the Department that has resulted in the Commission’s need to issue subpoenas,” David Blackwood, general counsel for the commission, wrote.

“We are both mindful of the sensitivity of the subject matter involved and aware that, in response to similar requests, the department has raised various concerns and matters of privilege,” Blackwood wrote. “While such considerations carry weight, cooperation with commission investigations is a mandatory statutory obligation.”

“Moreoever, due to the unique investigative role of the commission — akin to that of a congressional committee – -disclosure to the commission of the information sought it is both proper and required,’ he added.

Wolf said in his written statement that the attorney general has instructed his department to ignore the subpoenas.

“The nation’s chief law enforcement officer is forcing these career attorneys to choose between complying with the law and complying with the attorney general’s obstruction,” he said, adding that one of the attorneys has been compelled to obtain private counsel.

“The House must not turn a blind eye to the attorney general’s obstruction,” he said. “He has an obligation to answer the legitimate questions of the House and the Civil Rights Commission.”

The Washington Times By Jerry Seper A senior House Republican on Thursday introduced a “resolu

The Washington Times

By Jerry Seper

A senior House Republican on Thursday introduced a “resolution of inquiry” that would require the House Judiciary Committee to seek answers on why the Justice Department dismissed a civil complaint against members of the New Black Panther Party who disrupted a Philadelphia polling place in last year’s elections.

Rep. Frank R. Wolf of Virginia also said he had language inserted in the Justice Department’s annual spending bill requiring that its Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) provide to the House Appropriations Committee the results of OPR’s investigation surrounding the dismissal of the case.

Mr. Wolf, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee’s commerce, justice and science subcommittee, and Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, requested an investigation into the case earlier this year.

Under House rules, committees must take action on resolutions of inquiry within 14 legislative days. Mr. Wolfs resolution directs Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to provide Congress with “all information” relating to the decision to dismiss the case. The committee must hold a straight yea-or-nay vote on the resolution.

Mr. Wolf said he has written the attorney general six times seeking answers concerning the handling of the New Black Panther case and has yet to receive an answer.

“I regret that Congress must resort to oversight resolutions as a means to receive information about the dismissal of this case, but the Congress and the American people have a right to know why this case was not prosecuted,” he said.

In August, Mary Patrice Brown, acting OPR counsel, said she had “initiated an inquiry into the matter.”

The office, which investigates accusations of wrongdoing involving Justice Department attorneys, has said it would share the results of its inquiry with the lawmakers when it is completed.

Career lawyers in the Justice Department’s Voting Section filed the civil complaint in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia in January, accusing two New Black Panther members who were dressed in black berets, black combat boots, black shirts and black jackets with military insignias of intimidating voters with racial insults, slurs and a nightstick.

A third party member was accused of directing and endorsing their behavior. The incident was captured on videotape and gained national attention after it was shown on YouTube.com

Along with the party, also named were Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz, a D.C. lawyer; Minister King Samir Shabazz, head of the Philadelphia chapter who was accused of wielding the nightstick; and Jerry Jackson, a Philadelphia party member.

Justice later sought an injunction against Mr. Samir Shabazz, who carried the nightstick, barring him from displaying weapons at polling places until 2012.

In a statement introducing the resolution of inquiry, Mr. Wolf said the case had been “inexplicably dismissed” over the ardent objections of the career attorneys who oversaw it as well as the Justice Departments own appeals office.

“Time and again over the last year, the department has stonewalled any effort to learn about the decision to dismiss this case,” he said, noting that not only had Congress been unsuccessful in getting any information but the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights had repeatedly failed in its attempt to seek testimony and documents.

“I urge the House Judiciary Committee to report this resolution out favorably and to demand that the attorney general answer the questions surrounding this case,” he said. “It is imperative that we protect the right of all Americans to vote – the sacrosanct and inalienable right of any democracy.”

Williams Francone, born on the day of Mumia’s arrest, investigates the case of a man who has been imprisoned for Francone’s entire life. Interviews with Alice Walker, Noam Chomsky, Mos Def, Snoop Dog and Mumia’s attorney reveal racial injustice underlying Mumia’s conviction. The fact that Mumia was a member of the Black Panther Party, an African American organization, known for its notion of “black nationalism,” adds a political dimension to his conviction. In 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal for a new trial and sustained the 1982 ruling.

EDITORIAL: Black Panther battle intensifies

Is the Justice Department against civil rights?

The dispute between the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Justice Department is starting to look like the legal equivalent of World War II’s Anzio campaign, which represented a major escalation late in the war. The battleground is the controversy about the department’s decision to drop voter-intimidation cases against members of the New Black Panther Party. The commission is mounting a massive legal assault; Justice is refusing to be budged; and the casualties could be high.

The shame of it is that the department itself would be well-served if it would merely cooperate. That’s what it would do if it were confident its decision was correct.

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Could it be that President Obama’s legal team is imploding due to a voter intimidation case involving the New Black Panther Party? So many new developments regarding the Black Panther case occurred in the latter half of last week that it is hard keeping up with them all. But none of them look good for the Obama administration or for Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.’s Justice Department.

The case involves paramilitary-garbed Panthers caught on videotape (which was backed by copious testimony) engaged in what observers say were intimidating and racially charged activities outside a Philadelphia polling booth on presidential Election Day in 2008. Even though a judge was ready to enter a default judgment against the Black Panthers, based on a case brought by career attorneys at the Justice Department, the Obama administration suddenly decided last spring to drop three of the four cases and punish the final one with an incredibly weak injunction.

Controversy, accompanied by continued administration stonewalling, has ensued ever since.

The new developments last week were as follows:

First, a Web site called “Main Justice” reported on Wednesday (and we have since confirmed) that the Justice Department has, for now, ordered two key career attorneys not to comply with a subpoena about the case issued by the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. The commission, by law, has explicit power to issue subpoenas, and the law mandates that “all federal agencies shall cooperate fully with the commission.” The Justice Department, however, is citing internal regulations stemming from a 1951 case to support its order to ignore the subpoena.

One of the attorneys, J. Christian Adams, has been advised by his personal attorney, former South Carolina Secretary of State Jim Miles, that failure to comply with the subpoena could put him at risk of prosecution. “I can’t imagine,” Mr. Miles told The Washington Times, “that a statute that gives rise to the power of a subpoena would be subjugated to some internal procedural personnel rule being promulgated by DoJ.” In short, the department is stiffing the commission and unfairly putting its own employee in a legal bind.

Second, that same day, the two Republican House members with top-ranking jurisdiction over the Justice Department, Rep. Frank Wolf of Virginia and Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, issued a joint statement calling Justice Department delays “a cover-up,” and “a pretense to ignore inquiries from Congress and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.” At a hearing on Thursday, Mr. Smith said that “continued silence by the Justice Department is an implied admission of guilt that the case was dropped for purely political reasons.”

Third, at the same hearing, Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, accused Justice Department Civil Rights Division chief Thomas Perez of not being “truthful” while under oath, to such an extent that “there are people who have gone to jail” for such a level of purported “dishonest[y].”

The disputed statement, from what appeared to be prepared remarks by Mr. Perez that he later repeated insistently, was that “the maximum penalty was sought and obtained” against the one Black Panther for whom the charges were not entirely dropped. The bizarrely weak penalty consisted of a mere injunction for the Black Panther not to brandish a weapon near a polling place, within Philadelphia, through Nov. 15, 2012. In short, he is prohibited, only within Philadelphia and only for four years, from doing something that is illegal anyway.

Such a slap on the wrist is far from the “maximum penalty” allowable for such voter intimidation. Most directly, the injunction could be far broader, not just limited to Philadelphia for four years. Also, harsher penalties than mere injunctions could conceivably be available. If the Justice Department sought a criminal indictment, for instance, Title 18, Section 245 of the U.S. Code provides that those found guilty of voter intimidation “shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”

As all of this was going on, Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, the No. 2 man in the whole department, was announcing that very morning that he will resign after less than 10 months in office. Mr. Ogden – whose possible involvement in the Black Panther case had been specifically mentioned in the Civil Rights Commission’s subpoena – became the third high-ranking Obama legal official to announce a resignation in the last month. He was preceded by White House counsel Gregory Craig and deputy White House counsel Cassandra Butts.

“Holder and them have done a terrible job on this,” Mr. Wolf told The Washington Times. “This has just been handled so poorly…. You can’t hide these things. There is something wrong here. There is something very wrong. When it all comes out, I think it will be very bad.”

The congressman is probably right

Greetings in the name of Jesus. The story they said couldn’t be told is now upon us. Victory is based on the true story, told over 4 decades of a traditional African-Caribbean family who emigrated to London in the Windrush years.

The story starts in Clarendon, Jamaica, in the 1952 and then takes you through a momentous series of events in the life of the Brown family, that at one point or another reflects on the history of the recent black experience in the UK.

An autobiographical story about my life with my family, the main characters are strong God-fearing grandmother, her daughter Sita, who marries her long time love, Dennis and their life together with their 7 sons and 4 daughters.

The plot centres around the first son, Basil and the seventh son, Wayne and reflects on the social changes in Britain over the last thirty years.

This is an escapist story that depicts the Brown family’s early life in Jamaica through to the rise of Basil in the Black Panther. Behind the scenes in Brixton, a God-fearing mother struggles to keep her family within the church. After being put in jail for standing up for his rights, Basil is mysteriously found dead on the eve of his release. Wayne, the seventh son then takes up a twenty two year personal investigation to find out the truth of what really happened. An investigation that takes him around the world.

Written in a witty and humorous but dramatic way, the film is unique in that this story has never been told by a black producer. It also features a conglomeration of successful black British people who are icons in our society. Among the people I am liasing with are respected celebrities such as Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, Ian Wright and many more.

There will be excellent period music by a number of well known artists, may of whom have already been approached and are happy to work on the project.

Without pulling any punches, it depicts the birth of the Yardies in Brixton and at times makes New jack city look like Nobody’s day out.

I was once caught up in this short sweet life until one day and old school friend chased me with a Bible in his hand. From that day on my life has changed for the better.

The story is presented with an original twist, it is a tear-jerker but will also have you in stitches and will leave you refreshed with it’s non-patronising message, that we are all children of the Almighty and do must all unite to achieve on e common aim.

Victory promotes a positive aspect to all people as a whole, especially to our own people

When I was travelling through Ireland – and loving every minute of it! – I was fascinate

When I was travelling through Ireland – and loving every minute of it! – I was fascinated by Ireland’s political history, which often left me fuming at the injustices that were perpetrated by the British state. What infuriates me the most is that people assume that Britain has improved – that Ireland’s history is just a blot of the UK’s otherwise clean slate that should be glanced at and quickly forgotten. I was really pleased to see that the Free Derry museum had been opened my Mozzam Begg – an ex-Guantanamo Bay detainee. Apparently the similarities in the torture methods used on Mozzam and those used on IRA prisoners in British-run prisons were frightening. What this trip has left me with is a sense that all struggles are one. Whether it be the fight for Irish Independence, or the struggle for the recognition of a Palestinian State, or the struggles of oppressed minorities across the world for equal rights – in all cases a group of people are told that they are worthless and that they deserve less than others. And in all cases people rise up and demand their rights. I just wish so many amazing people did not die in this process.

Anyway, to the subject of my post. I’ve decided to start a new category – “amazing women throughout history”, because the more I learn about this world, the more I am struck by some of the incredible women who have shaped history and perhaps gained less recognition than their male counterparts. So read on and be amazed by the wonderful Bernadette Devlin – in her own words “I am a feminist a socialist and a republican.”

Bernadette Devlin

Josephine Bernadette Devlin McAliskey was born on 23 April 1947, in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Devlin studied Psychology at Queen’s University in Belfast in 1968 where she was a prominent member of the radical student-led civil rights political party called the People’s Democracy – which led to her expulsion from university.

A civil rights march in Derry on 5 October 1968 was “the beginning of it all. I can still see, in my mind, the absolute hatred on the faces of police officers. My understanding of the society I was in was irrevocably changed.” It had been organised by the newly formed Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association, to protest at discrimination against Catholics. “This was a pent-up hatred. This was naked violence. This was three or four men with long cudgels standing over someone on the ground and hitting and hitting them. This was police following those who had dragged away the injured, and beating them up as well. This was a realisation that your worst enemy was in a uniform and had the power to kill you.”

Devlin then began her venture into the murky world of Westminster politics. She opposed James Chichester-Clark in the Northern Ireland general election of 1969. When George Forrest, the MP for Mid Ulster, died, she fought the subsequent by-election on the “Unity” ticket, defeating a female Unionist candidate, Forrest’s widow Anna, and was elected to the Westminster Parliament. By this point Devlin was still only 21 and became the youngest MP ever to serve in the British parliament and the constituency of Mid-Ulster received a record voter turnout of 91.5%.

Bernadette, however, took an anarchist-style perspective to her role as a politician, saying “basically, I have no place in organized politics. By coming to the British Parliament, I’ve allowed the people to sacrifice me at the top and let go the more effective job I should be doing at the bottom.”

Devlin was part of the “Battle of the Bogside,” which occurred after the Protestant and Unionist Apprentice Boys’ Parade in Derry on August 12, 1969. The riot involved taking control of the Bogside (traditionally working class and Catholic area of Derry) and erecting barricades to exclude a police force of decided bias from the area. Devlin was a central figure in urging the construction of the barricades and encouraging their defenders.

Bernadette made her maiden speech in Westminster on her 22nd birthday, rather unconventionally within an hour of taking her seat. Here’s an excerpt in which she is replying to the Member for Londonderry (Mr. Chichester Clark):

“I had never hoped to see the day when I might agree with someone who represents the bigoted and sectarian Unionist Party, which uses a deliberate policy of dividing the people in order to keep the ruling minority in power and to keep the oppressed people of Ulster oppressed. I never thought I could see the day when I should agree with any phrase uttered by the representative of such a party, but the Hon. Gentleman summed up the situation ‘to a t.’ He referred to stark, human misery. That is what I saw in Bogside. It has been there for fifty years – and that same stark human misery is to be found in the Protestant Fountain area, which the Hon. Gentleman would claim to represent.”

After the Battle of Bogside, Bernadette travelled to the United States and met with the Secretary General of the United Nations. She was given the keys to the city of New York — and handed them over to the Black Panther Party.

“I was not very long there until, like water, I found my own level. ’My people’ — the people who know about oppression, discrimination, prejudice, poverty and the frustration and despair that they produce — were not Irish Americans. They were black, Puerto Rican, Chicano. And those who were supposed to be ‘my people’, the Irish Americans who know about English misrule and the Famine and supported the civil-rights movement at home, and knew that Partition and England were the cause of the problem, looked and sounded to me like Orangemen. They said exactly the same things about blacks that the loyalists said about us at home. In New York, I was given the key to the city by the mayor, an honour not to be sneezed at. I gave it to the Black Panthers.”

On her return to Ireland, in December 1969, Bernadette was convicted of incitement to riot in the Battle of Bogside and she served a short jail term after being re-elected to government.

Bernadette witnessed the events of the Bloody Sunday Massacre, at which twenty-seven civil rights protesters were shot by the British Army Parachute Regiment during a Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association march. Thirteen people, seven of whom were teenagers, died immediately, while the death of another person 4½ months later has been attributed to the injuries he received on the day. The massacre began just as Bernadette began to speak to the rally.

In the aftermath of the event, Devlin was repeatedly denied the chance to speak in Parliament, although parliamentary convention decreed that any MP witnessing an incident under discussion would be granted an opportunity to speak about it in Parliament. When State Secretary for the Home Department, Reginald Maudling, made a statement to Parliament on Bloody Sunday saying that the British Army had fired only in self-defence, Bernadette furiously punched him in the face, yelling “Murderous hypocrite!” As she later wryly remarked, “It wasn’t long before people discovered the final horrors of letting an urchin into Parliament.”

Bernadette’s prominent role is politics certainly ruffled some feathers. “People here said, ‘Confine yourself to our issues. And please cut your hair and lengthen your skirt. And don’t smoke.’” Protestants were critical of her and referred to her as a “Fidel Castro in a miniskirt.” In 1971, while still unmarried, she gave birth to a daughter Róisin. She married Michael McAliskey in April 1973 and lost her seat in Parliament in 1974. They were among the founders of the Irish Republican Socialist Party in 1974.

Bernadette recalls that this point “was when the civil rights movement ended and the armed struggle began. That was the point of realisation for me that the penalty for demanding equal rights in your society was that your government would kill you. Then you say, ‘If it’s OK for the government to declare war on the people, the people have a right to declare war on the government.’”

She stood as an independent candidate in support of the prisoners on the blanket protest and dirty protest at Long Kesh prison in the 1979 elections to the European Parliament in Northern Ireland, and won 5.9% of the vote. She was a leading spokesperson for the Smash H-Block Campaign, which supported the 1981 Irish Hunger Strike in 1980 and 1981, though she remained critical of Gerry Adams and other Sinn Féin leaders.

On 16 January 1981, she and her husband were shot by Ulster Freedom Fighters paramilitaries who broke into their remote County Tyrone home. British soldiers were watching the McAliskey home at the time, but failed to prevent the assassination attempt – whether by choice or accident is unknown. Michael was shot twice. She was hit in the chest, arm and thigh as she went to wake up one of the three children.

In more recent years, when there has been relative peace in Northern Ireland Bernadette has been a powerful, if private, force in various social issues. In 1997 she helped found the South Tyrone Empowerment Programme (Step), the network of groups and campaigners she directs from Dungannon, which currently focuses on improving the lives of migrant workers. “We don’t confine ourselves to one area, such as housing, or legal rights, or water charges – we research and campaign across them all.”

“People have said, ‘You were with us; now you’re with the foreigners.’ I say, ‘No. I am doing the same thing I have always done. It’s still about people having a right to fulfil their potential and not be excluded from that because of other people’s prejudice.’”

“I think there are two perceptions – the perception of me from the outside which sees the north of Ireland as ‘them’ and ‘us’, Catholics and Protestants, and me therefore as part of one side. And then there is the perception here, on the inside, which is more complex and sees me not as Catholic, but rather as a socialist, a feminist and someone who has had nothing to do with the Catholic Church for 30 years except to criticise it. I’m therefore an outsider and I don’t think it is any accident that I have found myself working with people on the margins.”

In 2003, she was barred from entering the United States and deported on the grounds that the State Department had declared that she “poses a serious threat to the security of the United States”, although she protested that she had no terrorist involvement — hinging ostensibly on her conviction for incitement to riot in 1969 — but had been permitted to frequently travel to the United States in the past.

“When I was younger, the anger was all from the heart up. It came from my heart and it came out of my mouth. The anger has not gone away. Anger is deep-seated. It’s not all right. But it’s not personalised anger. People ask me about the things they think are most important. And I say – which is what I feel – Bloody Sunday was not by any stretch of the imagination the worst thing that happened to me. It was the worst thing that happened to others – the families in Derry, for instance. If you say, ‘What is the worst thing that happened to me?’ then 1969 to 1999 is the worst thing that happened to me and lots of other people who lived through that period. Thirty years of my life is the worst thing that happened to me. And that doesn’t get better.”

On the back of each issue of The Black Panther, a weekly paper published by the Panther Party, was a poster, usually created by Douglas.

When The Black Panther newspaper was first published, African Americans almost invisible from the mainstream (white) American media landscape, save stereotypical roles. The black press often concentrated on the middle class.

In The Black Panther newspaper, images of poor and working class black people were glorified, and Emory Douglas often featured women in his illustrations. For 10 years at the paper, his drawings maintained poor black people’s dignity while focusing on their plight. There was no patronizing. He drew dark-skinned African-featured everyday people beaming with pride.

THE PRINCE OF THE LUMPEN & MAYOR OF BLACK LOS ANGELES, ALPRENTICE BUNCHY CARTER, DEPUTY MINISTER

THE PRINCE OF THE LUMPEN & MAYOR OF BLACK LOS ANGELES, ALPRENTICE BUNCHY CARTER, DEPUTY MINISTER OF DEFENSE OF THE BPPSD

I had been taken by surprise when I discovered that one of the reasons that ex Bay Area Rapid Transit Officer Johannes Mehserle’s murder trial for killing Oscar Grant was justified to be moved out of Oakland was that it had been “Home of the Black Panther Party for Self Defense” (BPPSD).

It is ironic that after the Military-Industry-Congressional Complex committed so much money, resources, brain matter and technology, the BPPSD and its formation still strikes fear in their hearts. As a Manchild, I had no idea that a small band of struggling brothers and sisters from Oakland would win the hearts and minds of the people of the World. The BPPSD was the product of the ingenious and revolutionary courage and spirit of Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton.

The organization that they formed in October 1966 was incredibly ingenious in that it provided a platform and vehicle for some of most misplaced, disenfranchised and marginalized members of the community that Bobby often defined as “The Lumpen” to make a direct revolutionary constructive contribution to the struggle for freedom and justice in this country.

The feared BPPSD was the victim of the some of the most secret coordinated vicious, costly and illegal domestic Human Rights Violations in the history of the United States. The road to destroy and neutralize the Black Lumpen of the BPPSD and its Shining Prince ran right through Oakland.

THE NIGHT OF THE LUMPEN

On one night in Oakland, the Black Lumpen would gather to make a revolutionary contribution to an international movement to free the Minister of Defense, Huey P. Newton.

It was between November 13 and December 1967, Bobby Seale, Chairman of the BPPSD, called a meeting at a small church at 32nd and Grove in Oakland. It was just after Huey had been indicted for the October 29, 1967 homicide of Oakland Police Officer John Frey, and the wounding of Officer Hearne during an alleged random traffic patrol stop in West Oakland.

Before the meeting, an extremely humble appearing man with a weak handshake was circulating around introducing himself as the new BPPSD Minister of Information. A brother turned to me and asked, “Who was that?” I didn’t know at the time. It was Eldridge Cleaver.

There was something magical and spiritual about the meeting. The charismatic and fiery spirit of the gathering burned the air with exhilaration and anticipation. My young heart was beating fast as we assembled to order. My mind was racing full speed ahead as I seemed to have been in the mist of giants. I was filed with anxiety and excitement. This was a gathering of about 100 of the most charismatic and bad-assed brothers and sisters on the face of the planet, The Black Lumpen. One of the brothers exhuming with spirituality, magic and charisma was ALprentice Bunchy Carter out of Los Angeles. Among Bunchy’s contingent from L.A. was an impressive Herculean figure that stood out among the crowd, Baby-D. Baby-D was one of biggest and most muscular men that I had ever seen. He was a lumpen gladiator.

Brother Malcolm, a poet from Soul Students Advisory Council at Merritt Jr. College, took the center stage. He was a sharp contrast to the room full of battle-worthy hard-core soldiers in black leather coats, berets and revolutionary African attire.

Malcolm was tall and thin as a rail with a bushy black mustache and eyebrows. He wore round metal rimmed glasses. He was dressed in perfectly ceased wool slacks with a dark brown tweed sports coat with a sweater and shirt underneath with a wool scarf warped around his neck. He had on penny loafers with a pair pennies in the slots.

He read a poem dedicated to Huey accompanied by flute player. His poem trumpeted Huey as: “Warrior” “Bold Warrior” “Black warrior.” It was well suited for the atmosphere. Brother Malcolm was well received by the brothers and sisters. I was impressed with his poem, and how with his words he was able to quiet our spirits and compliment the tone of the meeting.

If I recall correctly, it was the brothers and sisters of the San Francisco Black Arts West Theatre that preformed an inspiring and powerful short skit dramatizing the October 28, 1967 incident with Huey, Gene McKinney, OPD Officers Frey and Hearne. After seeing the skit, we could visualize Gene and Huey’s revolutionary acts that night. I learned the power of the art of revolutionary drama.

THE PRINCE OF THE LUMPEN

Bobby introduced Alprentice Bunchy Carter, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Southern California Chapter of the BPPSD. Bunchy’s reputation had preceded him. The buzz among the crowd had mostly been about Bunchy, the former gang leader of the 5,000 strong Slausons, a Lumpen Army.

On that night, Bunchy, the Mayor of Black Los Angeles, was “The Prince of the Lumpen.” Huey had realized the great potential and magnitude of Bunchy as a panther leader and named him as one of his chief deputies. Bunchy’s spirituality and persona was powerfully high upon the night and burned the air. He seemed to glow in the mellow and gentle lights of the room. He seemed magnificent in coolness, character and pose as he stood and delivered a powerful message of love for Huey and vision for the vanguard, the BPPSD.

Bobby was a brilliant organizer, and a dynamic and an extremely articulate personality. He was electrifying and held us spellbound as he talked about the hero, Huey P. Newton. Bobby also undated us on Huey’s condition and his upcoming trial strategy.

He also introduced a potent national “Free Huey” campaign beginning in Oakland on Huey’s birthday on February 17, 1968. He implored us to use our imagination, creativity, arts and will to aspire to people, win their hearts and the minds in a victorious fight to “Free Huey.”

The brothers and sisters of the Lumpen that met that night was actually a close- knit group. Most of the individuals were known, respected and had a proven character within the community. The Black Community maintained a very viable boundless intelligence grapevine. It wasn’t just happenstance that Bunchy’s reputation would precede him, and he could shine, by consensus, above the ranks. We had so much hope.

The Black Lumpen was for real. It was a nucleus of enormous potential and importance to the movement. Huey’s vision had been if each man in the Black Community with a common cause picked up a gun it constitutes an army. By the very nature of an army, it takes political and economy power over its community. The Black Lumpen and its Shining Prince and its great potential to the Black Community and the Black Liberation Struggle did not go without notice of the U.S. military-intelligence fascist apparatus.

A little more than the year after the meeting of the Black Lumpen of BPPSD, the Prince would be dead at the age of 26. Less than 15 days later, most of the Lumpen would be purged from the BPPSD. Who benefited from death of the Prince and Great Purge of the Lumpen from the BPPSD?

COINTELPRO & THE ASSASSINATION OF THE LUMPEN PRINCE

On January 17, 1969, John Jerome Huggins, 23 and Alprentice “Bunchy” Carter of the BPPSD, were shot in the back and executed at UCLA’s Campbell Hall by Ron Karenga’s US (United Slaves) Simba paramilitary unit; accessories: George P. and Larry Joseph Stiner, Harold Jones, Donald Hawkins; the triggerman: Claude “Chuchessa” Hubert.

According to Huey, the Stiner brothers were intelligence gatherers for the FBI, while the triggerman Chuchessa Hubert was an undercover FBI agent, who after the assassinations was transferred into the New York office or Guyana. [1] Hubert has never been charged or pursued for the assassinations.

Bunchy and Huggins’ assassinations were arranged by COINTELPRO. The notorious FBI Los Angeles Special Agent in Charge, Richard W. Held, took credit for the killings.[2] The assassin and his accessories escaped in a waiting getaway car driven by FBI agent Brandon Clearly. [3] Undoubtedly, the assassinations had been planned

In the political assassination of Robert F. Kennedy on June 5, 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, CIA and military intelligence operatives and assets were on the ground as accessories, intelligence controls, and observers. [4] If the FBI had prearranged the assassinations of Bunchy and Huggins as the evidence indisputably indicates, just as in the case of RFK, CIA and military intelligence operatives and assets would have been on the ground as well.

CONNECTING THE DOTS

The National Security Agency (NSA)

NSA Bloodline: Toni Cook

According to Larry Joseph (Watani) Stiner, just before the execution of Bunchy and Huggins he had been talking to or taking directions from Toni Cook. [5]

Toni Cook was a National Security Agency (NSA) bloodline. Cook was the daughter of a dentist and a linguist with the Top Secret NSA. [6] In military intelligence circles, the NSA means central, main, clearing house, central intelligence, and security agency. The CIA and NSA are direct English translations of the Reichsichethauptamt, the notorious R.S.H.A of Nazi Germany.

The R.S.H.A or Reichsichethauptamt (Reich Main Security Office or Reich Security Main Office) was an organization subordinate to Reichsfurhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler in his capacity as Chef der Deutschen Polizei (Chief of German Police) and Chief of the SS. The organization’s stated duty was to fight all “enemies of the Reich” inside and outside the borders of Nazi Germany. [7]

At the time of Bunchy and Huggins executions, Lt. Gen. Marshall Sylvester Carter, former deputy director of the CIA under Allen Dulles, was the director of the NSA. The NSA is the largest of the US intelligence agencies and is top secret; and exempt from domestic spying and of the Freedom of Information Act (FOLA).

From 1968 to the 70’s, the NSA joined the CIA/MK-ULTRA operations; and the COINTELPRO “racial matters” pacification programs along with Project CHAOS; Nixon’s Huston Plan; and the Public Disorder Intelligence Unit of the CCS (Criminal Conspiracy Section of the Los Angeles Police Department) to attack, expose, and neutralize an enemy list of “black extremists” just like Reichsfurhrer Himmler’s Reichsichethauptamt. Bunchy, the dynamic Deputy Minister of Defense of BPPSD and the Prince of the Lumpen would have been at the top of U.S. military intelligence domestic enemy list for neutralization.

According to Stiner, Toni Cook and Muminia Azizi of US managed to make their way to a small room at the back of the cafeteria and disappeared behind a closed door after Bunchy and Huggins were executed.

Elaine Brown, a woman with an absolutely bizarre background and history was there, too. According to Geronimo (Pratt) Ji Jada, Elaine Brown setup and incited the commotion at UCLA that led to the executions of Bunchy and Huggins. Ji Jada had succeeded Bunchy as the Chairman of the Southern California Chapter of the BPPSD. Ji Jada spent 27 years behind bars on murder charges trumped up by FBI SA Richard W. Held, and COINTELPRO.

Ji Jada maintains that she slapped one of the Simba Wachanga brothers (US paramilitary unit) whom she also had sexual relations with to trigger the assault. She ran to Huggins screaming that “She’d” been assaulted. Elaine as the agent provocateur of the UCLA incident is supported by Larry “Watani” Stiner. [8]

Additionally, Ji Jaga maintains that Elaine Brown was the BPPSD clandestine contact with a super mind-control CIA chief of psychology-war operations, Jay Richard Kennedy. [9]

Jay Richard Kennedy A.K.A Samuel Richard Solomonick was a white wealthy Hollywood author, composer, publisher and record executive. Undercover, Kennedy was an old school espionage agent. Kennedy had apparently been the eyes and ears of American military intelligence during the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War. Back in the United States in 1939, he was rewarded by his services with a U.S. State Department contract to make U.S. propaganda films for Central and South America. [10]

During the civil rights movement, he was again the eyes and ears of American military intelligence, this time for the CIA and FBI. For the FBI, he ran a surveillance and counterintelligence operation called, Solo Project, to fund some covert “Racial Matters” operations related to the surveillance and assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. One of his civil rights contacts was James Leonard Farmer of the Congress of Racial Equality (C.O.R.E.). [11]

In 1969, President Richard M. Nixon and his fascist administration appointed Farmer as an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, a CIA/MK ULTRA institution. Farmer met regularly with COINTELPRO’s Associated Director of the FBI and Justice Department Public Information Chief, Cartha D. “Deke” DeLoach. [12]

Kennedy recruited Brown as a “honey-pot” out of Club Pink Pussycat in Hollywood where she worked as a cocktail waitress. A honey-pot is a term used to describe an intelligence agency operative (usually opposite sex but could be same sex) who is used to sexually attract and then ensnare a predetermined targeted individual into an affair in order to gain information, and or to lure the target in a way that he or she could be set-up, framed, arrested or assassinated. [13]

She claims that Jay R. Kennedy taught her to begin to appreciate myself as a black woman. Jay had taught her how to think of black people. Jay determined where Elaine lived and how she lived. Jay s ideas and rhetoric was hers. Her replies reflect Jay s voice, not her own. Jay Kennedy’s influence followed Elaine to UCLA. She was powerless to do anything to stop anything from going on in a relationship with Jay Richard Kennedy. It sounds like CIA-MK ULTRA mind control.

Ji Jada also insists that Brown had been an UCLA psychiatric subject. [14] Dr. Louis Jolyon West’s UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute was carrying out CIA-MK ULTRA mind control experiments out of UCLA. Dr. West was the CIA’s “Maestro of the Mind Control.”

Freedom Ride Arrest

A man named Robert Singleton was also there. Singleton was a former Special Forces Army Ranger trained at Fort Benning, Georgia. Fort Benning is home to the army rangers. Army rangers are taught to be silent killers, assassins, snipers, ambushers, and torturers for the New World Order.

Fort Benning is the home to the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), which was known as the U.S. Army’s School of the Americas (Assassins). At the School of Assassins, Central and South American trainees were encouraged to torture and mass murder political dissidents just like the Nazis.

Allegedly, Singleton was in an office adjoining Campbell Hall with Dr. Beverlee Bruce, the head of UCLA’s high potential program that Bunchy had been a student of. Both Bunchy and Huggins were shot in the back and then reportedly Hubert repeatedly shot them in the head to make sure that they were dead. Singleton may have been the first at the foot of the bodies of Bunchy and Huggins in Campbell Hall. [15] .

Dr. Bruce reportedly had been Elaine Brown’s inside contact to the BPPSD. [16] Singleton had a civil rights movement relationship with Jay Richard Kennedy’s CIA contact, James Farmer of C.O.R.E. [17]

How Elaine Brown with her utterly strange and bizarre background was able to move into the top ranks as deputy minister of the Southern Chapter of the BPPSD has yet to be explained.

THE ROAD BACK TO OAKLAND & CIA CRACK COCAINE CONNECTION

The CIA

After the Southern Chapter of the BPPSD was neutralized with the FBI frame-up of Geronimo Pratt in 1972, Elaine Brown moved into Oakland, Home of the BPPSD. She became editor the Black Panther newspaper, and Panther candidate for the Oakland City Council in 1973 on the coattail of Bobby Seale running for mayor. In 1974, she became the chairman of the Oakland BBPSD Headquarters after Huey went into exile to escape (homicide) criminal charges in Oakland.

In 1977, Brown was a central figure in the election of the Alameda County Mafia Superior Court Judge Lionel Wilson as Oakland’s first Black Mayor. Wilson’s tenure as mayor began the CIA/Iran-Contra Cocaine Crisis Epidemic with his son “Mr. Steve” as the drug kingpin. “Mr. Steve” as he was known in the underworld was directly connected to the New York Spatola-Inzerillo-Gambino Mafia Mob drug distribution ring.

How Elaine Brown with her utterly strange and bizarre background was able to move into the top rank of the BPPSD as its Chairman has yet to be satisfactorily explained by Bobby Seale or anyone else.

The NSA

In 1986, the DEA discovered that two hangers in IIopango, Costa Rica, owned by the CIA and NSA, were used by the Lt. Co. Oliver North and CIA contract agent, Felix Rodriguez to fly cocaine into the hangers as part and parcel of the CIA/Iran-Contra Crack Cocaine U.S. domestic operations. [18]

In 1985, during the CIA/Iran-Contra Cocaine Crisis Epidemic in Oakland, Toni Cook, NSA bloodline, moved into Oakland with the Bay Area Black Unified Fund. From 1989 to 1990, she was the senior policy advisor for Oakland Mayor Elihu M. Harris that succeeded Lionel Wilson in office.

The crack epidemic refers to the surge of crack houses and crack cocaine use in major cities in the United States between 1984 and 1990. Fallout from the crack epidemic included a huge surge in addiction, homelessness, murder, theft, robbery, gang warfare, and long-term imprisonment among the Lumpen. The first effects of the epidemic started in the early 1980s, but the DEA officially classifies the time of the epidemic starting in 1984 and ending in 1990, in what can be considered to be the height of the epidemic. [19]

Between 1984 and 1994, the homicide rate among the Lumpen aged 14 to 17 more than doubled, and the homicide rate for black males aged 18 to 24 increased nearly as much. During this period, the black community also experienced an increase in fetal death rates, low birth-weight babies, weapons arrests, and the number of children in foster care. [20]

The epidemic affected all major American cities that had significant chapters of the BPPSD. Among the cities most severely impacted were Philadelphia, New York City, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Detroit, St. Louis, New Orleans, Miami and particularly Oakland, Home of the BPPSD. [21]

In August 1996, the late Gary Webb had begun his explosive San Jose Mercury Newspaper series exposing CIA Crack Cocaine domestic operations dumping tons of crack among the Lumpen in Oakland, San Francisco Bay Area, and Los Angeles.

On December 1996, Cook was the infamous Oakland Board of Education Director that initiated the Ebonics’ resolution debacle as a diversion to Webb’s volatile CIA/Iran-Contra Crack Cocaine domestic operations public exposure. [22]

On December 10, 2004, Webb was found dead in Sacramento. Webb had planned to continue to publicly expose CIA/NSA operatives involved in illegal crack cocaine trafficking. The coroner found that Webb had committed suicide by shooting himself twice in the head. That’s right; he shot himself TWICE in the head. That dog don’t hunt.[23]

HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS: ASSASSINATIONS & DISINTEGRATION OF THE BPPSD

Bunchy and Huggins assassinations at UCLA mirrors the February 21, 1965 assassination of Malcolm X when pandemonium broke out among the 400 n the Audubon Ballroom at 166th Street and Broadway in New York. After the shootings began in Campbell Hall, a similar pandemonium broke out among the students in Campbell Hall. The stories still differ as to who and whom had executed Bunchy and Huggins.

Claude “Chuchessa” Hubert has not been called to answer if he or someone else executed Bunchy and Huggins, and who and whom directed him to murder them. And who and what government agency, agencies and officials armed, abetted and aided him or them.

Oakland has an ugly history and dark secret regarding the persecution and conspiring to disintegration the BPPSD; and the setup, prosecution, and assassinations of Little Bobby Hutton, Alprentice Bunchy Carter, John Huggins, Huey P. Newton, and hundreds of other brothers and sisters for solely political purposes.

One thing is clear, the military-industrial complex wanted to stuff Bunchy’s revolutionary promise and persona among the Lumpen of the World. It was a political assassination.

The fear and promise of a revolutionary Lumpen arising upon the people was so great that it caused the military-industrial complex to seek a narco-pharmacrological solution. The mass drugging of the Lumpen with psychoactive drugs (crack cocaine) was designed to force them to cope with the inequities and injustices of society in altered states of consciousness instead of organized confrontations with grievances.

Oakland has an ugly history and dark secret regarding the persecution and conspiring to disintegrate the BPPSD; and the setup, prosecution; assassinating and neutralizing prominent and independent men and women of color like Little Bobby Hutton, Huey P. Newton, Charles Alex Gregory, Dr. Marcus Foster, Dorothy King; and the CIA Crack Cocaine domestic operation that has shaken the very core essence of the Black Community. Oakland has an ugly history and dark secret regarding the persecution and conspiring to disintegrate the BPPSD; and the setup, prosecution, and assassinations of our people has to be to driven to the “Light of Day” with an International Human Rights Opinion Tribunal.

A Racist folks.

What a joke.

Charles Barron, a former Black Panther member who only a few years ago stated, “I want to go up to the closest white person and say, ‘You can’t understand this, it’s a black thing’ and then slap him, just for my mental health” calling someone else a racist.

Did you grow up in Modesto? “I was born in Oklahoma and my mother moved out here to California in 19

Did you grow up in Modesto? “I was born in Oklahoma and my mother moved out here to California in 1941. She migrated here for employment during the war, they had scouts out recruiting in the South, so she and grandmother and many others came out here supposedly to work in some of the defense plants, but they didn’t have any jobs for them when they got there. So my mother got a job at a cannery here, so I basically grew up here and went to school in between Ceres and Modesto. My mother purchased some land out at the Monterey Park track, that’s the only place she could purchase any property because a man had parceled off a section of land out there and sold it to minorities. The community was integrated during that time, I remember when I lived there we had an Indian family, a Chicano family, a couple of Black families, and even a Portuguese family.”

You lived in Modesto for a long time, what changes have you witnessed? I saw a lot of changes, especially in the farm labor movement, because I was heavily involved in that at the time, you know, getting drinking water for them in the fields, getting them (bathrooms), higher wages, and basic health needs that were needed. Yeah I’ve seen changes, but the roots that grow the changes haven’t changed much, we still have a select group of people who still control what goes on in this town. Whether it has to do with employment, health services, education, media, straight across the board they still control things. It’s a “good ol’ boy” network and now they’re bringing in their “good ol’ sister” network. It’s real, because if you think about it, money doesn’t really leave a family, especially in the upper echelon. They marry each other and keep that money and that power tied up.”

You eventually left the Central Valley and went to school, when did that happen? “I always did go to school whether it was vocational or otherwise, I always kept my foot in education. First I attended MJC and then Stanislaus State for a semester and they had scouts for UC Santa Cruz so I went there in 1971. I got my BA in sociology and did my teaching credential there at UC Santa Cruz also, then did some teaching myself for awhile.”

Is that when you were introduced to the Black Panthers? “Yes, in Santa Cruz, at that time it was what people would call a “radical school.” While I was there I worked with a professor named Dr. J. Herman Blake. We did research together on Alex Haley’s book and before that we were doing work with Huey (P. Newton). I had always been on the fringe of the theory and philosophy of the Black Panther Party ever since I was a kid, so being involved in Alex’s research and helping Dr. Blake write his book on the Black Panther Party I got more involved with them. They didn’t really influence my thinking about the system because I’ve always felt that way, they just fueled it.”

What other involvement did you have with the Panthers? “At that time, I don’t know if people realize how dangerous it was being involved with the Panthers because cops didn’t mind “pulling the plug on you” and that came down from J. Edgar Hoover and he just fueled it, but I would help them put on rallies and events and I attend them, I was at George Jackson’s funeral when he got killed. I was involved in some of the planning with Huey, Bobby, and Elaine and them, but I was mostly on the fringe because we were working on a different need, which was helping put that book out. (Revolutionary Suicide is the book she is referring to). I missed the situation where they went to Sacramento with the guns, I didn’t think I could deal with that, the guys didn’t want us to anyways. Their basic philosophy, those “points” that they came up with, feeding the children, education, head start, and things like that was very basic. We were trying to overthrow the government, but our main focus was trying to get the community to stand up for themselves and buck the system with our communities and we got a lot of flak from our communities. We were called ‘those crazy niggas’ because nobody could conceive of a group of black men walking into the state capitol and sitting down with the governor with guns. But my part was doing research and advocating in the community to address the needs of the community and doing things like the clothing drives, free lunches, and out of that I got involved with a group of welfare mothers in Stanislaus County that came from the Westside, and together we got the first Head Start program in the county.”

You mentioned how dangerous it was to do what the Panthers were doing, what were some of the things the government did to stop the Black Panthers? “Nationwide the Party felt very strong. Huey and Bobby and that main group, they were some heavy intellectual dudes. They attended college and organized themselves. They read everything across the board, they researched different revolutionary groups and individuals and they researched the system, we didn’t have to study it too much because we experienced it. (J. Edgar) Hoover let it be known that he could kill without regards to any consequences. He sent the word down to ‘shoot to kill’ and they raided and slaughtered some of us. They were our enemies, they murdered us, wholesale murder, and had no conscience or feelings or concern about it. They continually tried to brainwash our people so the majority of the black middle-class were not there to support us, and that was a hard pill for us to swallow, because we felt we were trying to look out for their future generations. They brought mass amounts of drugs into predominately black communities. Now look what we have, drugs in every poor community across the board. That’s why I say we’ve had changes, but the roots of the problems, the evilness, is still there. Whether its capitalism, racism, sexism, all these ‘isms’ it’s still there and it divides us. We were discussing that years ago in the (Black Panther) Party, how the systems manipulates minds by pitting people against each other. And it’s all for the bottom line of making money. They still do it, with the kids, they say ‘it’s the hyphy movement’ or ‘it’s Hip-Hop’ or ‘it’s the kids in the gangs.’ They got us in a slave mentality and slavery was based on indoctrination and misinformation.”

What can Modesto and the Central Valley learn from the Black Panthers? How can we use their lessons to create change here? “First of all, I’ll start with gangs. Gangs are real organized, some of them are really smart. They have organizational skills, if they weren’t labeled a detriment to the country they could have been on Wall Street, but the system gave them the crumbs down at the bottom, which was the drugs. And they’re even limited on that money because the real money made off of drugs is up at the top. In Modesto what I want to see is all the different factions of OGs, from blacks, Chicanos, Asians, and whites, could come together and invest some of their money and invest it into the youth. They need to come together and address issues like the penal system, especially since a lot of them go to jail eventually. Be role models for the younger ones. Do something with them. Don’t just sit around. If I was a male I could be better at it, they don’t want to listen to me, they say “you don’t understand grandma” and I do understand. I know a lot of these guys and they act tough and have their swagger, but I also know they have a heart. The OGs have the respect to talk to them, they get more respect than the law enforcement. Law enforcement used to be able to do what they want but now they’re targets. Cops are going to start getting picked off like they do to kids and like Hoover did to the Black Panthers. I say that because once I saw, right here in Modesto, a cop intimidated an 11 year old kid, he told him to sell some drugs for him and the kid wouldn’t. So the cop told him to run down an alley and then shot bullets over his head as he ran. What do you think that does to a kid that young and the community that the kid lives in. They get older and want to get back at the police. So my main point is I want the OGs to organize, all of them, and work against the system. It doesn’t have to be with guns, sometimes it’s better to use the power of the people.”
