I’m not going to engage in the topic of whether New Moon is a good movie or not (but if you are interested in my thoughts on it, feel free to read my review at michaelbayistheantichrist.wordpress.com). I would though like to draw everyone’s attention to the fact that the soundtrack for New Moon is pretty damn good. Sadly, I think I must add that this is most likely awesome for the Twilight franchise, but not so awesome for these artists’ reputations. Whatever gets people listening to good music, right? … Maybe.

NEW MOON SOUNDTRACK TRACK LIST
1. DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE – MEET ME ON THE EQUINOX
2. BAND OF SKULLS – FRIENDS
3. THOM YORKE – HEARING DAMAGE
4. LYKKE LI – POSSIBILITY
5. THE KILLERS – A WHITE DEMON LOVE SONG
6. ANYA MARINA – SATELLITE HEART
7. MUSE – I BELONG TO YOU (NEW MOON REMIX)
8. BON IVER & ST. VINCENT – ROSYLN
9. BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB – DONE ALL WRONG
10. HURRICANE BELLS – MONSTERS
11. SEA WOLF – THE VIOLET HOUR
12. OK GO – SHOOTING THE MOON
13. GRIZZLY BEAR WITH VICTORIA LEGRAND – SLOW LIFE
14. EDITORS – NO SOUND BUT THE WIND
15. ALEXANDRE DESPLAT – NEW MOON (THE MEADOW)

Maybe this video expresses how she feels about being involved with Twilight?:

#59: Lovage/Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By (2001) — Dan ‘the Automator’ Na

#59: Lovage/Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By (2001) — Dan ‘the Automator’ Nakamura’s contribution to trip-hop/hip-hop in the earlier part of the decade is unparalleled (see Gorillaz, Deltron 2000, Handsome Boy Modeling School). But when matched up with Mike Patton (Faith No More, Tomahawk) and the sultry Jennifer Charles (an underrated, sexy voice if ever there was one), the results were exceptional. Combining trip-hop with campy humor, R&B, brilliant samples and a lustful sense of narrative the results are far greater than the sum of their parts. Check out: ‘Pit Stop (Take Me Home),’ ‘Book of the Month,’ and ‘Strangers on a Train.’

#58: Ben Harper & The Relentless7/White Lies for Dark Times (2009) –Quite simply, it’s been 10 years since Harper has rocked out so consistently through an entire album. If the Relentless7 are a leaner, meaner version of the Innocent Criminals, I’m down with what they’re cooking up. The whole album is all killer, no filler. Check out: ‘Why Must You Always Dress in Black,’ ‘Keep it Together (So I Can Fall Apart),’ and ‘Fly One Time.’

#57: Bloc Party/Intimacy (2007) –Bloc Party’s third proper studio album took a hot minute to get into. It was a louder, angrier album than the past two, yet had some amazing somber moments as well. The usage of electronics on this record added a new element that revitalized the band’s sound. Kele Okereke’s storytelling continues and it’s a wonderful thing. Check out: ‘Halo,’ ‘Signs’ and the U.S. version bonus track, ‘Flux.’

#56: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Baby 81 (2007) –Perhaps one of the most underrated bands of the decade, BRMC really hit all the nails on the proverbial head with their fourth album. This is a brilliant dark band that incorporates blues, rock andfolk in a tight-woven pastiche of sound and mood. The best way to describe it is, imagine an American version of The Doves. Check out: ‘Weapon of Choice,’ ‘666 Conducer,’ and ‘Am I Only.’

#55: Alexisonfire/Watch Out! (2004) –Alexisonfire are one of, I think, three bands that prove good things can come from Canada (no, Nickelback isn’t one of the three, sorry…) While there have been shining moments on subsequent albums, Watch Out! is what really put the band on the map. There is a purity in the noise, the loud/soft dynamics. It also makes for a great snowboarding album and Dallas Green is one of the best vocalists/lyricist of the decade. Check out: ‘Control,’ ‘No Transitory,’ and ‘Happiness by the Kilowatt.’

#54: Blessthefall/His Last Walk (2006) –blessthefall were another act I had an opportunity to work with at the start of my stint with RS. Anger is a difficult emotion to deal with – you’re always looking for ways to master or control it or to deal w/ it constructively. His Last Walk does that. Perhaps because it’s a Christian metal-screamo band behind the visage. While they utilize the ever popular clean vs. growl vocal style, the guitar riffs are much better than their peers. They’re basically what A Dozen Furies could’ve been. Check out ‘Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad,’ ‘Rise Up,’ and ‘Wait for Tomorrow.’

#53: Thrice/Beggars (2009) –some six years removed from ‘Artist,’ we find a different Thrice, all together. In between, the band would graduate to major label status, release a 4-EP double album, a live disc, and return to the independent world. During this timespan, the band would experime…nt with it’s sound and with their influences, remaining true to who they were as musicians from day one. Beggars is chock full of great tunes — from the ‘I got your back,’ vibe of ‘The Weight,’ to the vagabond heart of ‘In Exhile,’ to the angsty swallowed guitar squalor of ‘Beggars.’

#52: deftones/deftones (2003) –ah, the memories of summer 2003. I still couldn’t believe on Metallica’s Summer Sanitarium tour that the Deftones (four albums in at this point) got opener status below bands like Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. The opening chords of ‘Hexagram,’ harkened back to the D-tones breakthrough record ‘Around the Fur.’ Dark, dense, layered rhythms. This album, and its artwork, were so awe-inspiring that I utilized the roses as inspiration for one of my tattoos. Chino shouts to the heavens on this release and I will always hold fast to those gutteral monkeyshines. Here’s to Che. Check out: ‘Hexagram,’ ‘Battle-Axe,’ and ‘Bloody Cape.’

#51: City & Colour/Bring Me Your Love (2008) –if I were able to play guitar, these are the songs I’d want to write. No more is this more self-evident on all 12 tracks displayed on Dallas Green’s side project, City and Colour’s second disc. Achingly beautiful acoustic folk songs that ruminate upon man’s existence and the necessity of love along the road of years we travel. Check out: ‘Body in a Box,’ ‘What Makes a Man?’ and ‘The Girl.’

#50: William Fitzsimmons/The Sparrow and the Crow (2009) –some music is like a sea change in your life. I’ve found that a man and a guitar can say just as much as a fully plugged in five-piece with backing orchestra. Fitzsimmons hails from a cold, rural part of Pennsylvania and holed himself …up to write one of the darkest break-up albums known to man. This album came to me late last year (despite it’s 2009 physical release) as I was coping in my own life with such a thing and connected with me. My collection would be incomplete without this piece of art. Check out: ‘After Afterall,’ ‘They’ll Never Take the Good Years,’ and ‘You Hurt Me.’

I am reluctant to publish this post… but I feel obligated to share these images. Shannon got me a ticket to see New Moon at the premier tonight. I will be the first to admit I am not a zealous twighlight fan… However, I am so thankful I got to go for two reasons 1. taylor lautner and 2. the soundtrack…

New Moon itself was decant and an upgrade from Twighlight. It had better special effects and in general you could tell it had a larger budget. Taylor Lautner’s body alone is worth seeing the movie for…. but seriously WOW! Apparently he put on 30 lbs of muscle for the movie. The soundtrack was great, see below for album sampler.

Thank you Shannon x

Birinin adı ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon‘. Ve ayrıca Death Cab for Cutie, Editors, Band of Skulls, The Killers, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Anya Marina, Muse, Hurricane Bells, Sea Wolf, OK Go, Alexandre Desplat…

Diğerinin adı ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. Seneler önce masalın başında Maurice Sendak, seneler sonra kameranın başında Spike Jonze… Patrick Watson’ın çocukluğundan beri hayran olduğu masala yazdığı parçayı film için Jonze’a yollaması, fakat kendisinin soundtrack’te parçaya yer vermemesi ile küçük çapta sansasyonunu da yaratan albümün baş kahramanı Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)… Karen O’nun Deerhunter’dan Bradford Cox, The Dead Weather’dan Dean Fertita, Liars’dan Aaron Hemphill, Gris Gris’den Michel ve Yeah Yeah Yeahs’den Nick Zinner ve Brian Chase ile bir araya gelerek oluşturduğu ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ topluluğu ‘Karen O And The Kids’ parçaları en az film kadar ilgi çekmişe benziyor.

The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (BRMC for short) is an American alternative rock band from San Francisco. They formed in 1998 and took the name from Marlon Brando’s motorcycle gang in the 1953 film, The Wild One. In the film the gang was referred to Black Rebels MC.

But, I smell a legal battle because Marlon Brando’s estate signed off on a new project with Triumph Motorcycles to debut Brando-related apparel at the company’s dealerships. As you may recall Brando played a tough biker gang leader Johnny Strabler and rode a 1950 Triumph Thunderbird 6T. The Triumph Legends Line will offer replica leather jackets inspired by the movie. The replica includes key features of Brando’s original jacket right down to the embroidered ‘Johnny‘ name tag and the BRMC (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) distressed print on the back of the jacket. They are also developing Brando print men’s and ladies’ T-shirts.

All of this will likely add to the “what-to-wear” debate and whether you’ll get beat down for imitating or wearing so-called “colors” of a motorcycle club (i.e. SOA: Son’s of Anarchy or BRMC). Maybe you’re indifferent. If so you wreak more Brando than you think. He was famous in the movie for being outright contemptuous for contemporary middle-class society. Asked what he was rebelling against and his response was “What have you got?”

The live album. Often overlooked and discerned by fans.

The live album is loved by some, but equally hated by others. A live album is tricky, as it sometimes does not represent the band or their sound as well as fans hope. It is also seen as inferior because hearing the live performance is not the same as seeing it or hearing it in person. So with the complexity of the live album and its arguable concept, will BRMC’s album Live succumb to these faults?

I was a bit curious to see how BRMC would perform their songs live. Knowing the instrumental effects they use, and the polished sound their albums have, it could have been a disaster. They really did an excellent job of transcribing the sounds, although not exactly the same, they still produce the same energy but with a grungier and more punk-rock effect. It’s pretty rad hearing your favorite BRMC songs in that sense, a reason in itself to hear this album out.
The first track ‘Weapon of Choice’ really had me worried as the quality of the sound is really disappointing, and reoccurring mic problems makes matters worse. The low quality is reminiscent of underground garage-bands, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I was expecting more. Things do pick up on the second track thankfully, and the energy and clarity that was missing in the previous track becomes more apparent. Listeners might get put off by this as it is not common to start the album with the worst track.

The album really starts to gain some momentum after the first two songs. Notable tracks include: ‘Berlin,’ ‘No Easy Way Out,’ and a beautiful rendition of the classic folk song ‘Dirty Old Town.’

The energy is consistent all the way ’till the end. The instruments are clearly heard and it’s a nice surprise to hear the bass so dominantly. I really wasn’t aware of how much the bass contributed to BRMC’s songs, a good example of how implementable bass guitar is to the foundation of a tune.

Despite low quality and sound issues in certain songs, BRMC’s album, Live is still fun to listen to. All their hits are played and a good amount of energy is put into it. Fans will definitely want to include this to their collection cause it offers their favorite songs in a new light and shows the skillfulness of BRMC’s ability to playing live.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Shirley Manson, Butch Walker, Tom Gabel, Jarrod Gorbel, Charlotte Martin

The already impressive line-up scheduled for the Pablove Across America benefit concert has expanded: Band of Horses and Sea Wolf have been added to the event, taking place at Avalon on Saturday, November 21. The evening will be dedicated to celebrating the triumphant return of Jeff Castelaz, co-founder of Dangerbird Records, who is currently pedaling his way across the country on a bicycle in order to raise awareness and funds for the Pablove Foundation. This charity is dedicated to child life programs as well as children’s cancer research and treatment.

The evening will host a slew of already announced supporters who will perform acoustic and semi-acoustic sets including, Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Shirley Manson, ButchWalker, Tom Gabel (Against Me!), Jarrod Gorbel (the Honorary Title), Charlotte Martin and Songs For Kids. Tickets are $35 (GA) and $65 (VIP) and on sale now. All proceeds will go to the Foundation.

Castelaz’s pilgrimage is deeply rooted: he’s riding in honor and remembrance of his 6-year old son, Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, whose individual fight with cancer ended June 27, 2009 after a 13-month battle. The Pablove Foundation was founded by Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill at the onset of their son’s diagnosis. Pablove Across America is Castelaz’s physical show of commitment to fighting cancer. His message is urgent: kids get cancer too. Families need help and hope – not only to find a cure, but also to increase joy and compassion during the day-to-day grind of treatment.

“Pablove Across America “is about standing up, hammering the pedals, speaking out – and FIGHTING back,” proclaims Castelaz. “We want people to support and spread our message that kids get cancer too. It’s not somebody else’s problem. As the Pablove Foundation community grows, we can make a sizable difference in peoples’ lives.”

Come tutto l’album d’altronde.

Amabili anche i Depeche Mode in formato rock di “Playing the Angel”, il divertito Beck di “Guero” e i meno precisi Queens of the Stone Age (“Lullabies to Paralyze”) e White Stripes (“Get Behind me Satan”).

Oh, Pitchfork. Your albums reviews are shining rainclouds in a world filled with rainbows and sunshine. You hate everything music has to offer, which seems strange considering you are a music publication, but that is just one of the many ways you Pitchfork people prove your superior wits to us lowly mouth-breathers. So let’s read one of your reviews together, so we can all be as educated on what should be considered good and what should be thrown into the Hudson Bay. [note: Pitchfork, me]

Yeah, of course, indie rock is “just” pop music, but the companion CDs to Garden State, and TV shows such as “The O.C.”, “Gossip Girl”, and “Grey’s Anatomy” (all at one time helmed by New Moon music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas) over-emphasized indie’s adult-contemporary streak.

Yeah, duh, Indie rock is exactly what you think it is. Except it isn’t (GASP!). Indie rock is much more than that.

By contrast, the Slumdog Millionaire, I’m Not There, and Sofia Coppola film soundtracks work partly because they share the same restless disregard for boundaries that indie listeners– ideally, at least– aspire toward.

That is why we Indie kids listen to music! We dare to dream of a world beyond our own! We must have something fresh, unique, challenging! If music were a wine, we’d need a complex and bold Bordeaux, not wine in a can! You The Twilight Saga: New Moon OST, you are the very essence of wine in a can.

As usual, Thom Yorke fares best:

As usual, I suck Radiohead’s dick with the utmost enthusiasm.

Grizzly Bear’s “Slow Life”, with Beach House singer Victoria Legrand, and Bon Iver’s “Roslyn”, with St. Vincent– both welcome collaborations on paper–

Because that’s where music counts, on paper. I don’t even know why they go to the trouble of recording it, when we can just look on paper.

unfortunately fade into ethereal acoustic wallpaper: vaguely pretty, too unremarkable to have noteworthy flaws.

Isn’t that great? Ethereal acoustic wallapaper? I wrote that. It’s so daring, so Kafaka-esque. My editor is going to shit Ray-Ban Wayfarers when he reads it. Followed up by my explanation of how it is too average to have flaws — succulent. Like a haunting declarative ottoman, or a captivating explanatory blender.

Lykke Li’s feedback-streaked piano ballad “Possibility” is a relative bright spot, but like the rest of the tracks here, it pales in comparison to the work on her own records.

And I know pale.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s smoky acoustic lament “Done All Wrong” is probably too hard on itself.

In fact the song does my job for me. Why can’t more songs suck so bad they actually embody their own level of suck?

Even New Moon’s most adventurous musicians rarely do anything catchy, startling, or moving enough here not to blend into mostly forgettable gothic-romance slurry.

Gothis-romance slurry. I think that’s Wendy’s Halloween version of the Shamrock Shake.

Strange as it may seem, not blending in is what some people want.

Of course, nobody wants to enjoy the norm! Especially not the type of people that would pick up the CD Soundtrack of a book that sold 17, 5.3, 4.5 and 3.7 millions copies and of a movie whose prequel made $380 million worldwide. They would understand and appreciate the value of the unique.

Catchy is what pretty much everybody wants.

I don’t want catchy. Why have catchy when you can have “not-blending-in”? Or “pants-are-simply-too-tight”? Or “mutton-chops-are-cool”?

So indie boys and vampires may have in common their unhealthy pallor, their emotional sensitivity, and their romantic clumsiness,

It’s true, I am such a romantic klutz. Like this one time, when took this girl back to my apartment and played Bon Iver for her instead of Sufjan Stevens. So of course, when I went in for the kiss, she rejected me! I should have known “Skinny Love” would ruin the mood!

but they’re not the same, after all. Believe it or not: Indie kids have souls.

Believe it or not: Indie kids aren’t pompous jackasses. Believe it or not: Our shits do smell like roses. Believe it or not: Indie kids aren’t the most incessantly stuck-up group of people on the planet. Believe it or not: I enjoy the smooth stylings of Barry White, he arouses the depths of my soul. Believe it or not: I just wrote an entire article with one point in mind — my friends and I are better than you.

That last one I do believe.

I do not like the Twilight series. I read the first two novels and can safely say that they are two of the worst written, boring pieces of fiction I’ve had the displeasure of reading. I then went to see the movie, mostly because Robert Pattinson is hot (see above ), but was ultimately reminded of how bad the source material was through the awful acting and dull script. That said, when the tracklisting for the New Moon soundtrack was released I couldn’t help but be intrigued. The inclusion of Lykke Li and Bon Iver was enough for me to be sold. I just finished listening to the album and it’s actually pretty good. Here’s my list of the best songs off the record:

http://www.blackrebelmotorcycleclub.com/news/partnership-with-vagrant–to-release-live-dvd/?p=1

Her kommer lige et par smagsprøver

Death Cab for Cutie

WARNING: This is a soppy post.

Was listening to songs by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Don’t be fooled by the name. Their songs are really awesome.

And one particular song caught my attention. And I listened to it for over 200 times in less than 24 hours.

One of my friend pointed out that a verse in the song was actually the last line from a poem by William Butler Yeats. I read the poem.

And I have been reading it over and over again. Next month, Landmark will have one less copy of Yeats. I am in love with the dude’s poems. I had read a few long back. But I guess I wasn’t mature enough to understand or appreciate them then.

Here’s the song by BRMC. It’s called Promise.

And here’s the poem by Yeats. It’s what the post is called.

Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

The DVD features over two hours of live concert footage from three sold out shows in Berlin, Dublin

The DVD features over two hours of live concert footage from three sold out shows in Berlin, Dublin and Glasgow. The footage documents the end of the band’s 2007 tour in support of Baby 81, their most recent full-length release. Directed and edited by Tessa Angus with live audio mixed by BRMC’s own Peter Hayes, the gritty cinematography keeps the band’s music front and center while viewers experience the show both from the stage and from the audience’s perspective.

Over ninety minutes of unadorned, intimate behind-the-scenes footage is captured on the second bonus DVD along with additional performance footage. Viewers accompany BRMC as they record songs from Howl, see the making of the “Weapon of Choice” video, and witness inspired, impromptu off-stage performances.

The package is rounded out by a bonus audio CD featuring 14 songs from the concert film and a gorgeous 48-page booklet of previously unseen backstage and candid photos of the band. The full tracklisting and cover art will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Los Angeles, CA-based group is currently at The Station House studio in Hollywood finishing work on their fifth studio album. Pre-production was completed in Philadelphia, PA at the same studio the where band recorded Howl. This will be the band’s first recording with drummer Leah Shapiro and is expected to have a March 2010 release.

“We lived and breathed this record for six months throughout one the coldest winters we’d ever known,” said BRMC’s Robert Levon Been. “Every track on there was practically frozen to our bones, and chipped off one sliver at a time. We recorded in the same house in Philadelphia that we began working ‘Howl’ in, but this time things were different. Having Leah behind the drums injected a lot of new fuel into the band. Right now I can’t fully describe what the record sounds like to people because I’m still too inside of it. But we’re really proud of this thing we’ve created, and someday I think it will speak for itself.”
