At a recent White House press conference reporter April Ryan went after the hide of Desiree Rogers. She said in some circles Roger is refered to as the “belle of the ball.” White House press secretary vehemently defended Rogers which seemed to infuriate Ryan. At one point in the exchange Gibbs told Ryan to calm down and then he said he sometimes has to tell his child to do this. Some are offended by how Gibbs handled the exchange. I think it was a poor choice of words but Ryan’s style of questioning could have been the catlyst for his reaction. Watch the video and tell me what you think.

As a young girl growing up in Tottenham, my mother used to ‘press’ my hair. Because it was unusually long (I’m quite dark skinned so it was considered an anomaly), it didn’t make me popular amongst my black peers and of course, to white girls I was still black. But my mother insisted that I should ‘straighten’ my hair because it was time consuming if it was kept natural, and because she wanted to show me off to her friends. And in those days you didn’t challenge your parents. I was supposed to be proud of being blessed in this way but I was not. It just left me miserable. The key thing is how we, black women, so much despised who we were and our looks and wanted so much to be white – I included, even though I was not exempt by having long hair. However I do remember teachers, and some white girls commending me that I had the ‘best looking hair that they have seen a black girl’ but ‘compliments’ could only take me so far.

And of course there are the practicalities of having long straightened black hair: running out of the rain or keeping away from anything that resembles water; retouching the virgin bits of hair every three months; hair gradually falling out due to chemical left on too long or the weight of the hair being too heavy (??); when they style that you’ve worked so hard to resemble (in those days it was Farah Fawcett-Majors just ends up looking too dry and sticking out, then the whole thing is defeated.

Some thirty years on, I constantly keep my hair in braids/extensions and really love my look (after all black skin does age well). But the fight now is to convince my daughter that she should keep her hair in braids but she wants to relax her hair and look like Raven! I guess it will always be a fight to make sure that black skin/hair is fairly presented along side with long flowing curls.

The Brokaws were in the far left lane when they noticed a spool of cable bouncing along the far right lane. Just then, a green SUV in the right lane came up fast and tried to avoid the cable. The driver lost control of her vehicle and slid into the middle lane, forcing a mail truck into the Brokaw lane of traffic. Tom hit the brakes hard and skidded along the median. When the mail truck catapulted the median the Brokaw vehicle slid into it. Neither Tom nor Meredith were injured but tragically the driver of the SUV was thrown from her vehicle and killed. The postal truck crashed into a dividing barrier. The woman driving the SUV was thrown from her vehicle as it flipped over several times. She landed on the tracks under the Willis Avenue Bridge and was killed, officials said.

The women who have been with Tiger Woods are stepping up to the microphone and telling their stories

The women who have been with Tiger Woods are stepping up to the microphone and telling their stories. They are proudly sharing text messages and audiotape of clandestine phone calls. They are smiling and clearly saying look at me. Where is the shame? It used to be if you went with a married man it was a dirty secret. It was not something that you shouted over a megaphone. When did we lose our sense of shame? Have you ever watched an episode of Maury Povich. On a daily basis people willingly sit and recite the intimate details of their sex lives with their significant or insignificant others. Cable channel VH1 offers shows like Flavor of Love, and Rock of Love, both of these shows featured washed-out celebrities surrounded by young women who were willing to do virtually anything to be the last one standing. Recently we saw a couple brazenly crash a White House state dinner, and when caught claim they were invited. They had the nerve to say the reaction by the press and the public had devastated them. They are now trying to play the victims. Another case of no shame. So it is no small wonder that these women are preening for the camera. What do their parents think of their antics, what do their friends think? Are they saying “you go girl, release those voicemails, and get paid.” This post is not about Tiger Woods. His actions are despicable, but these women were willing participants and that is in fact a shame.

Arlington Mayor Russell Wiseman must to have been very upset at Obama for making his speech while the Charlie Brown Christmas Special was on. I take that back, OFF. See the Obama’s speech knocked the Peanuts special off, which caused Wiseman to run to his computer and voice his opinions on his Facebook page. Only people on Wiseman’s friend’s list had access to the post, that would be around 1,600 or more. “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” first aired in 1965 puts emphasis on the “real meaning of Christmas,” including Linus’ memorable reading from the Gospel of Luke of Jesus’ birth.

Wiseman statements on his Facebook page were, “Ok, so, this is total crap, we sit the kids down to watch ‘The Charlie Brown Christmas Special’ and our muslim president is there, what a load…..try to convince me that wasn’t done on purpose. Ask the man if he believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he will give you a 10 minute disertation (sic) about it….w…hen the answer should simply be ‘yes’….” Wiseman also stated, “…you obama people need to move to a muslim country…oh wait, that’s America….pitiful.. (adding) you know, our forefathers had it written in the original Constitution that ONLY property owners could vote, if that has stayed in there, things would be different……..”

With Twitter, MySpace and Facebook gaining popularity, it’s easy for statements to be sent all over the internet. This is probably the reason Wiseman has the page “private.” If Wiseman has access to computers and knowledge of social sites, I’m sure he has heard of EBAY or Amazon, where he could have purchased the Charlie Brown Christmas Special for around $14.00. Well, this is what we are faced with around here, OH I didn’t mention Arlington borders Memphis on the other side of Wolfchase. Now do you see why Wiseman made this statement?

A little information about Mayor Russell Wiseman: A native of Arlington, Mr. Wiseman is serving his second term as Mayor. He previously served one term as Alderman and Vice-Mayor before being elected Mayor in the 2003 Arlington municipal election and re-elected in 2007.

Family: Adina (wife of 11 years); daughter Avery and son Hayes.

Career: Vice President and Commercial Lender at First Capital Bank in Germantown. Wiseman has been working in the banking industry since 1997.

Civic: Mayor, Town of Arlington, 2003 to present; Alderman & Vice-Mayor, 1999 to 2003; served on Industrial Development Board and Parks & Recreation Committee before being elected to first term as Alderman; member of the Association for Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA) and the Advisory Council for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce; member of the Depot Square Commission, Finance Committee, and Planning Commission

Religion: The Wisemans are active members of Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis.

Education: Bachelor of Science from University of Tennessee at Knoxville; 3rd generation graduate of Bolton High School; graduate of Arlington Elementary School

Have you ever made a mistake on your job? Have you ever made a big mistake? Did you get fired? Some of you will answer yes to both questions, but others were granted a second chance. Let’s give Desiree Rogers a second chance. Perhaps she has been too caught up in the glamour of her job. Perhaps she has never met a designer she didn’t like. Why are the same things that were applauded about her when she came to Washington now the subject of criticism? She made a mistake by not having a member of her staff at the checkpoints but she is not head of security. It was security’s job to check the credentials of all the guests and they did not do this. She should not be fired she should be given another chance and she should review and revise her procedures. This was a serious breech that not only affected the president but it also affected a visiting dignitary. We should be glad that India is not making more of an issue of this breech because of the presence of their leader. The crucifying of Rogers has reached a fever pitch and hopefully the president will not throw her off the bus for this incident.

There has been a lot of talk about job creation, but can a job really be created? Yes the government can build bridges, buildings and other things but what happens at the completion of these projects? The person again becomes another unemployment statistic. The real question is how are long-term sustainable jobs created? This can only happen when businesses experience real sustainable growth that justifies the acquisition of new workers and that is not happening. So I wonder what did the President’s Job forum really accomplish yesterday? Was it just a pr stunt as some in the press have speculated or will something real come out of his meetings with business leaders? I hope for the latter but I fear it was the former.

I have heard comedians joking about it and I have seen cartoon depictions of it and each of these things is followed by laughter, but tell me what is funny about this? If his wife did this she is an abuser and Woods’ is a domestic violence victim and this is an unfunny situation. I was talking to a friend today and she said she has no sympathy for Woods’ because he is a cheater. I understand this thinking but if Tiger was seen chasing his wife with a golf club he would be in jail and nobody would be laughing. We will never know what went on in their home last week, but when they came outside and he hit the tree all of their personal business became public and that is sad, but if his wife struck him with a golf club that is domestic violence and that is criminal.

I read this story today in the Chicago Sun Times about a woman who had been mugged by two teenage thugs. They had knocked her down and stolen her I Phone. What hurt her the most was that photos of her infant twins were on the phone as well as other personal information including her Facebook information. A teenage girl found the phone, and after looking at the photos she knew this belonged to a mother and she knew the memories on the phone could not be duplicated. She gave it to her teacher who managed to contact the owner’s father and ultimately get the phone back to the owner. When the phone was returned the woman contacted her Facebook friends and started helping some of the impoverished people of the Englewood High School the girl attended. She collected food, clothing and other things the students needed. This is a good story that started off with a bad thing happening. It is this kind of story that gives you hope. Yes there are bad people out there doing bad things, but there are still good people who feel compelled to do the right thing and that is what this story exemplifies.
Stick together like harmony? I don't know the words Earlier this week, I was faced with the latt

Stick together like harmony? I don't know the words

Earlier this week, I was faced with the latter half of my childhood, all nine, unfortunate years, in a flash of three minutes: my roommate and I went to an event at Brooklyn Bowl, and when we arrived, there were only a handful of other Black people there. It was a perfect white watering hole. I figured lots of white women were probably meeting their future white husbands, or boyfriends, or Saturday night dates. I was meeting no one, because I was invisible.

I know I’m not allowed/supposed to say this, and the whole of what I have to say is very stereotypical “woman-like”–but I really hate feeling the way I do around white men. It’s complicated. I, like most heterosexual women, want to be attractive to men. So when the men who are around and available don’t even recognize me as a woman, that’s frustrating. Ready for the complicated part? I don’t date white men. I don’t and I won’t. I refuse! Which is for my own personal, separate reasons. When, by chance, they do notice me, try to strike up a conversation, buy me a drink, or in some other way express their interest, I give off the nastiest, stiffest vibe you could possibly imagine.

So what do I care if they notice me?

I have always prided myself on not being That Girl–that annoying, wishy-washy, inscrutable girl who men lose sleep over, trying to decipher what she means and wants. But try as I might, I think I am that girl. Not intentionally, but in some ways, I exemplify that stereotype of a woman–if only because I change my mind, and feel both ways (as if men do not have these feelings…) So when I say, “I want white men to notice me so that I can ignore them” well…yes, I am being incredibly ridiculous. Incredibly. But it’s not that simple. I don’t want white men to notice me so that I can ignore them; I want them to notice me because I’m human. It’s one thing when someone doesn’t find you attractive; it’s a totally different thing when they don’t even see you. The same thing happens with co-ed groups of whites…and me. And other Black women, I’m sure. You get acknowledged–it’s not like you’re a hologram–but it feels shallow. Like no amount of anything could intrigue them to even ask you your name.

Something similar happened once with this Black guy I know. He was a graduate of Morehouse, and a writer, who traveled in many of the same circles I did. So when I met him, and I realized how many of the same people we knew, and how similar our life paths were, I expected he would be equally interested in me as a person as I was in him. WRONG! It wasn’t until I met his half-Asian, half-white girlfriend that it clicked: he was not interested in Black women. No amount of common experience could make him.

I ended up writing a play based on my experience with this young man. Before I thought of a title, I referred to the play as “Recognition”–because that’s what it comes down to. Sometimes, people recognize your light, your humanness, your personality, you. And sometimes, they can walk right past you without a second or first glance. Maybe we are socialized to only see people we want to know. I certainly have been. When I was at Columbia, I would desperately search crowds for brown faces, familiar or not. One day on the street, this girl, Hilary, who was white, was trying to get my attention, but I didn’t see her. I ran into her later in my dorm, where again, I did not see her. When she finally got my attention, she said she’d been trying to say hi earlier. I was pretty distraught that semester (lots of racism, lots of white people, lots of racist white people), but did that excuse my unwillingness to recognize her or other whites? Yes, they have social privileges we don’t–but am I allowed to ask to be seen when I will not see?

Over the past few days we have seen the media take incredible delight in watching Tiger Woods dangle in the wind. The media loves to anoint someone as the greatest but they take more than a perverse pleasure in watching their destruction. We saw Ted Haggard head of one of the largest congregations in the country admit to having an affair with a male prostitute after he had repeatedly denounced homosexuality from his pulpit. We have seen Governor Mark Sanford call for the impeachment of then President Clinton because of the president’s infidelity only to have the governor sneak down to Argentina to rendezvous with his Latin lover, we have seen John Edwards share the lovely story of how every wedding anniversary he and his wife Elizabeth go to Wendy’s because that used to be the only place they could afford. Edwards recently acknowledged his own infidelity. What do all of these scenarios have in common? All of these men including tiger Woods were celebrated, and all of them became laughingstocks when their private indiscretions became public fodder. Women are coming out of the woodwork now claiming to have been nabbed by the Tiger. This is their moment and they don’t mind letting everyone know I knowingly slept with a married man. On Morning Joe today they were using the text of Woods apology as a punch line to lame joke. The golfer that introduced Woods to his wife says he wished he would have never made the introduction. Right then Tiger’s wife could have continued being his nanny instead of the comfortable life she has enjoyed with Woods. Don’t get me wrong I am not excusing Woods. He is a cheater and that is despicable but he is not beyond redemption. Why do we laugh at human tragedy? What is funny about a man cheating on his wife? Initially Woods pled with the press to respect his privacy, but that was not going to happen especially when his ladies started selling audios of his phone messages. At this point we can call these women his former girlfriends because with all of these revelations coming out they know they will never have another conversation with Woods so they may as well cash in, and with a public that is salivating for more salacious details these women will be in the news at least for a few more days, and they can revel in their 15 minutes.

To call a black woman Aunt Jemima is an insult. She is associated with slavery so when you say this you are saying that person has a slave mind and that they are ruled by their “master”. The same is true for the term Uncle Tom it too is meant as an insult not a term of endearment. We often see black pundits hurl these terms at politicians that do not share their ideology. Recently the Cleveland Call and Post ran a cartoon depicting a black woman politician, Nina Turner as an Aunt Jemima. The Call and Post is an African American paper but that does not give them the right to do this and far too often we give each other a pass on this kind of behavior. When the NY Post ran the offensive stimulus monkey cartoon we were up in arms. There were calls for boycotts of the paper, but this is not getting the same kind of scrutiny but it should. It is wrong no matter who does it and we have got to hold them accountable.

Tiger Woods was pressured by the media to put out a statement. He admitted and apologized for his “transgressions.” So many pundits keep saying that he was a role model and he owed the public an explanation, but this is simply not true. Years ago Charles Barkley, former NBA great said in a commercial that he was not a role model. At the time this statement was met with controversy, but what he said was true. Professional athletes are not someone our children should emulate. They are celebrated because they have exceptional skill, and that should be admired, but we don’t know these people. We don’t know what they do behind closed doors. They are asked to do product endorsements because of their skill and popularity, but they should not be the person that our children aspire to become. Our role models should be people that we know. They are our fathers, mothers, teachers and mentors, the people who are truly invested in our success. These celebrities don’t know us, and frankly don’t care about us and that is fine. We can watch them and cheer for them, but that’s where it should end. The Tiger Woods situation is a family matter and since we are not in the family it is simply not our affair.

While watching the boob tube last night, I got an eye full of them. Scantily clad women appeared on

While watching the boob tube last night, I got an eye full of them. Scantily clad women appeared on my screen in the form of Victoria’s Secret commercials. The spots promoted bras that would increase a woman’s bust by two whole cup sizes.

Women have been augmenting their physiques since underwear was invented, but the ads made me question: at what point do push-up bras, girdles and weaves become false advertising?

I’ve heard a lot about how when people first meet, they send a “representative” of themselves. If you curse like a sailor, you may not rip into the expletives when you’re first introduced to someone. If you’re one to dig into crevices on a regular basis (ears, nose, what have you…), you may not practice that habit in front of anyone you’re not comfortable with.

However, since physical attractiveness is one of the things that first draws one person to another, how does offering an outward appearance that is less than genuine affect the relationship?

If a guy meets you, and he’s instantly attracted to your hazel eyes, what happens when you lose the contacts? What happens if the increase-your-bust bra is in the laundry, and you show up to date No. 2 looking considerably less curvaceous?

You may want to get to know someone better before you let him know you sing ‘80s sitcom theme songs in the shower every morning, but when do you reveal that you purchased your round rump online from Target?

Personally, I’d be a little put off if I met a dude wearing a toupee one weekend, and the next weekend he appeared with the standard George Jefferson male-patterned baldness crescent around his head.

It’s not that I necessarily have anything against baldness, but isn’t that a little misleading?

Where does beautification end and just plain fakin’ begin?

Maybe it just depends on who’s looking. I’ve met guys who appreciate realness even if it’s less glamorous, and I’ve met guys with the whatever-makes-her-more-attractive mentality.

As with most things, it’s probably just a matter of being open and honest. Yes, it’s yours even if you bought it, but if it’s something that you have to take off to clean, it might be polite to mention that sooner rather than later.

After all, most people would agree they want a partner who loves the true them, so it might not be a bad idea to show who that true person is … inside and out.

The people of Switzerland took a courageous stand in their recent vote against Islamic intolerance.

The people of Switzerland took a courageous stand in their recent vote against Islamic intolerance. Islamic leaders are whining like babies over this vote. The Quran is the blueprint of how the words in it demand a takeover of the World. Other countries of the World need to also protect themselves from Islamic intolerance. Ignorant World Leaders will now try to pressure Switzerland to not abide by the vote results. Wise people know the Truth, but fools stay addicted to their foolishness

Swiss ban mosque minarets in surprise vote

By ALEXANDER G. HIGGINS, Associated Press Writer – Sun Nov 29, 6:40 pm ET
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091129/ap_on_re_eu/eu_switzerland_minaret_ban
GENEVA – Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional ban on minarets on Sunday, barring construction of the iconic mosque towers in a surprise vote that put Switzerland at the forefront of a European backlash against a growing Muslim population.
Muslim groups in Switzerland and abroad condemned the vote as biased and anti-Islamic. Business groups said the decision hurt Switzerland’s international standing and could damage relations with Muslim nations and wealthy investors who bank, travel and shop there.
“The Swiss have failed to give a clear signal for diversity, freedom of religion and human rights,” said Omar Al-Rawi, integration representative of the Islamic Denomination in Austria, which said its reaction was “grief and deep disappointment.”
About 300 people turned out for a spontaneous demonstration on the square outside parliament, holding up signs saying, “That is not my Switzerland,” placing candles in front of a model of a minaret and making another minaret shape out of the candles themselves.
“We’re sorry,” said another sign. A young woman pinned to her jacket a piece of paper saying, “Swiss passport for sale.”
The referendum by the nationalist Swiss People’s Party labeled minarets as symbols of rising Muslim political power that could one day transform Switzerland into an Islamic nation. The initiative was approved 57.5 to 42.5 percent by some 2.67 million voters. Only four of the 26 cantons or states opposed the initiative, granting the double approval that makes it part of the Swiss constitution.
Muslims comprise about 6 percent of Switzerland’s 7.5 million people. Many are refugees from the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s and about one in 10 actively practices their religion, the government says.
The country’s four standing minarets, which won’t be affected by the ban, do not traditionally broadcast the call to prayer outside their own buildings.
The sponsors of the initiative provoked complaints of bias from local officials and human-rights group with campaign posters that showed minarets rising like missiles from the Swiss flag next to a fully veiled woman. Backers said the growing Muslim population was straining the country “because Muslims don’t just practice religion.”
“The minaret is a sign of political power and demand, comparable with whole-body covering by the burqa, tolerance of forced marriage and genital mutilation of girls,” the sponsors said. They said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan compared mosques to Islam’s military barracks and called “the minarets our bayonets.” [Editor’s note: Najmadin Erbakan, former Prime Minister of Turkey, is on record stating “…we are coming here [to Germany] to take control of your country…”] Erdogan made the comment in citing an Islamic poem many years before he became prime minister.
Anxieties about growing Muslim minorities have rippled across Europe in recent years, leading to legal changes in some countries. There have been French moves to ban the full-length body covering known as the burqa. Some German states have introduced bans on head scarves for Muslim women teaching in public schools. Mosques and minaret construction projects in Sweden, France, Italy, Austria, Greece, Germany and Slovenia have been met by protests.
But the Swiss ban in minarets, sponsored by the country’s largest political party, was one of the most extreme reactions.
“It’s a sad day for freedom of religion,” said Mohammed Shafiq, the chief executive of the Ramadhan Foundation, a British youth organization. “A constitutional amendment that’s targeted towards one religious community is discriminatory and abhorrent.”
He said he was concerned the decision could have reverberations in other European countries.
Amnesty International said the vote violated freedom of religion and would probably be overturned by the Swiss supreme court or the European Court of Human Rights.
The seven-member Cabinet that heads the Swiss government had spoken out strongly against the initiative but the government said it accepted the vote and would impose an immediate ban on minaret construction.
It said that “Muslims in Switzerland are able to practice their religion alone or in community with others, and live according to their beliefs just as before.” It took the unusual step of issuing its press release in Arabic as well as German, French, Italian and English.
Sunday’s results stood in stark contrast to opinion polls, last taken 10 days ago, that showed 37 percent supporting the proposal. Experts said before the vote that they feared Swiss had pretended during the polling that they opposed the ban because they didn’t want to appear intolerant.
“The sponsors of the ban have achieved something everyone wanted to prevent, and that is to influence and change the relations to Muslims and their social integration in a negative way,” said Taner Hatipoglu, president of the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Zurich. “Muslims indeed will not feel safe anymore.”
The People’s Party has campaigned mainly unsuccessfully in previous years against immigrants with campaign posters showing white sheep kicking a black sheep off the Swiss flag and another with brown hands grabbing eagerly for Swiss passports.
Geneva’s main mosque was vandalized Thursday when someone threw a pot of pink paint at the entrance. Earlier this month, a vehicle with a loudspeaker drove through the area imitating a muezzin’s call to prayer, and vandals damaged a mosaic when they threw cobblestones at the building.
_________
Associated Press Writers Shafika Mattar in Amman, Jordan, Eliane Engeler in Basel, Jennifer Quinn in London and Giovanni Fontana in Rome contributed to this report.

Chris Rock recently produced the movie Good Hair. In it he talked about black women’s obsession wit

Chris Rock recently produced the movie Good Hair. In it he talked about black women’s obsession with their hair. A great deal of the movie was devoted to hair weaves, but many black women struggle with other aspects of their hair. One thing we avoid like the plague is “sweating our hair back”. Most black people know what I mean. It is when you exert yourself a little too much you and your hair becomes wet with sweat, and it literally starts rising. This happens whether your hair is permed or natural and it is something that most of us avoid. Today I was sent an interesting article from AARP which discussed black women and their aversion to exercise. “AARP finds that for many African American women not being able to manage their hair style is a key barrier to exercise. The report suggests that brisk walking for 10 minutes at a time, for a total of 150 minutes a week, can keep Black women active and alleviate some of the hair issues that come with more vigorous workouts. AARP held focus groups with African American women aged 45+ and African American hair stylists. Black women said they avoid physical activity that makes them perspire because it gets their hair wet, which ruins a hairdo and can present a large disruption to their daily schedules.” AARP fitness expert Donna Richardson Joyner said that she wishes African American women would take care of their bodies like they take care of their hair.” Joyner went on to say, “you have to have balance … your hair cannot be an excuse to keep you from working out.” Our physical health has to become as important as our hair and for some of us that is a tall order, but it is not impossible and if we want to avoid being a sad statistic we had better buy a sweatband and start ‘Sweating to the Oldies.’ For more information on health-related issues go to http://www.aarp.org/aarp/black_community/

Sabrina Latest Contestant Voted off I'm A Celebrity

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out contestant Sabrina Washington got the lowest votes by the public today, with only 3 days left to go until the finals. Known to me and many others as the lead singer of former girlband Misteq with former band mates Alesha Dixon (The MC) and Su Elise Nash (mimed) . While the band deformed Alesha carved herself a well-rounded career in music and judging BBC strictly Dancing and Su-Elise runs her very successful stage school, it appeared Sabrina fell off the map. I think it was a good thing that Sabrina

Sabrina did herself proud

Sabrina over-came her fears of heights by parachuting out of a plane (better than me, when my sister pushed me too high on the swings when I was 8 that was when my relationships with heights over, probably explains why I stand at 5ft). She showed respect for elders even when Kim Woodrow Matrixed her about taking the Bushtucker Trail, (again better than me I would of screamed at her like a banshee). I liked the fact that she is a private person and even though you can see her and Stuart Manning getting close she morally didn’t do anything on TV and she was adamant when asked that they are friends.

What so refreshing to see is another woman on TV knowing her mind, being fun and enjoying life, I like Sabrina Washington and wish her all the best in all she does.

TV chef Gino D’Acampo is the bookies’ favourite to win with Ladbrokes offering odds of just 1/2 on the Italian tasting victory, I beg to differ and think that Stuart should win for being such a positive sport.

Today the jury found Mayor Sheila Dixon guilty of embezzlement, a misdemeanor, for violating her fid

Today the jury found Mayor Sheila Dixon guilty of embezzlement, a misdemeanor, for violating her fiduciary duties to the city and citizens of Baltimore by using $630 in Target and Best Buy gift cards that were intended for the “children of Baltimore.” Mayor Dixon could possibly be removed from office for $630. This is completely asinine. How could someone risk their entire political future for a shopping spree at Target and Best Buy? She could be removed for using cards that she could have bought. Why? This act took place while Dixon was the President of the City council. The prosecuter has pursued her relentlessly during her mayoral reign. It is a sad irony that she could lose her office for so little. I grew up in Chicago when old man Daley was the mayor. He ruled that city with an iron fist and nobody stepped out of line. Politicians need to learn those days are over and it is simply not worth losing your career for such a nominal payoff. I look at what Dixon was convicted of and I know she has got to be kicking herself and I think of the theft that Bernie Madoff committed for decades, and I think Madoff lived the good life off of his ill gotten gains and he probably dreams of the life he led, but what will Dixon dream of a few CDS from Best Buy? It’s tragic.
