I haven’t made many mixes for friends as of late. Actually, it’s been seemingly quite a while actually since I did, so I figured recently now was as good a time as any to roll one together. It is always a challenge making them for other people because you have to compensate for their taste in music while trying to express your own and carry whatever them you are trying to convey through building exciting highs and breathable moments of reflection in it. I always tried to work in a little extra of a (hidden) theme to them as well, though, I’m not sure how this one actually came out, but it was really fun to try and make one of these yet again … and, for anyone else who happens to check it out, enjoy!

Another Opeth album on the list: Blacwater Park.

A few weeks ago I started listening to a band called Opeth. I would describe it as a progressive melodic death metal band. Most of their songs are over 10 minutes in length and combine soft acoustic and heavy electric guitar music. Their lead vocalist, Mikael Akerfeldt, often uses both clean and growling vocals in the same song.

So far I have listened to the following Opeth albums:
2001 – Blackwater Park
2002 – Deliverance
2003 – Damnation
2005 – Ghost Reveries
2008 – Watershed

Among the above mentioned five albums, Blackwater Park is my favorite. My favorite Opeth song is ‘The Drapery Falls’. The song has great melodic music and mind blowing vocals, however all their songs are great and they are all quite diverse. I am anxiously waiting to watch them in concert on May 4th 2009.
