Blake Lively wanted to act in Ben Affleck’s movie so badly, although she was too young for the role in his film that she went to see Ben in Boston herself to audition for him and beg for the role. Her tenacity paid off and Affleck had the script rewritten just for her.

Says lively: “My part was supposed to be a 37 year old. I was like, ‘I have to play this.’ And they’re like, ‘No, you’re not 37.’ I took a train to Boston and auditioned for Ben and fought for the role, and he gave me the job on the spot. They rewrote it so I’m 29.”

Like Michael Jackson, the tenacious Blake Lively can say, don’t stop til you get enough. What a great casting story.

In re-reading my ranting, I’ve come to realize that Blake Lively has adopted a reputation on Celebrity Must Have of being somewhat of a tomboy.  This is obviously a misleading accusation.  I can only justify this false perception by my own jealousy; she happens to pull off a blazer more suavely than Robert Pattinson.  I wouldn’t be all that shocked if she were to show up on the red carpet in Armani pinstripes and still commanded attention.

For now, without further a due, I introduce Miss Lively’s lovelier side.  As with her menswear inspired concoctions (a tribute to her ambiguous name?) Blake continues to draw masterfully upon a single strategy and molds it into her individual, youthful look.  In this case, we travel back in time to an age of fearless flappers who sought to sexy-up their look while thriving in a sea of otherwise modest individuals.

Prohibition what?  The fringed Madison Marcus “swanky” skirt achieves the same effect as Miss Lively’s feathered frock and also hides nothing: there’s a whole lot of layer and a whole lot of leg. Her couture mini flaunts a retro base with an updated top.  Even when going for separates, offset the lower frills with a tee that only subtly screams look at me.  The embellished silk organza tank from Haute Hippie parallels Blake’s balanced ensemble but works off the red carpet too with jeans when the spotlight is off.

I’d be suspect of anyone of my gender who didn’t lust over the featured dress or those perfectly blonde ringlets.  Some aspirations are simply unattainable (at least without a wig).  But when it comes to investment pieces (which our 1920’s ancestors knew something about,) we can at least take a cue from the girl with all the gossip.  You can have the look and wear it multiple occasions too.

This begins our chapter of cosmetic-inspired posts! We all know Blake is one of New York City’s darlings — and many of us LOVE her look! As an LA-native, she always looks her best after a day or two in the sun. Not sunkissed? Don’t sweat it! Here, find out what products and processes will duplicate her glam style.

Blake Lively is oh-so-glam!

You’ll need:

-two eyeshadow colors: one shimmery white (or close to white) and a shimmery purplely pink

-black pencil eyeliner

-q-tips

-black mascara

-eyelash curler

-coral blush

-bronzer (suited to your skin tone)

-brushes: kabuki brush, large foundation brush, small eyeshadow  brush, medium eyeshadow brush

-coral colored lipgloss

-powder based foundation

1. Using the medium sized eyeshadow brush, dust the lids from lashline to browbone with shimmery white (or off-white) shadow. I recommend trying Smashbox’s “Sand” or MAC’s “Mylar.”

2. Clean the medium brush by swiping it over a paper towel a few times (we’re changing colors). Using the medium brush, create a contour with your shimmery purple eyeshadow by working a small amount of shadow into the crease of your eye. Start light and build up for a more dramatic effect. For a smokier “bad girl” look, try MAC’s “Trax;” for a look just like Blake’s, try Stila’s “Shell.”

3. We’re ready to line! Using black liner, trace from the outside of your lash line inward. The line should be thicker toward the outer eye and thinner on the inner eye. I like Clarins’ eyeliner in “01 Black.” For a sultry look, smudge outward from the outer lashes — this will keep the inside line clean.

4. For stand-out lashes like Blake’s, the secret is curling before coating. I love the tried-and-true Shu Uemura eyelash curler (available at sephora.com.) Don’t clamp too close to the lashline unless you want “bent” lashes! Once you’re curled, coat top lashes with Dior Show mascara in “Rich Black,” also available at sephora.com. Scrape the excess mascara from the tip of the wand and run it over the bottom lashes.

5. Glowing skin is the most important component of this look. Before applying foundation, use your shimmery white shadow on the cheekbones, the middle of your bottom lip and brow bone. This will make these areas POP! Next, conceal your “problem areas” (under the eyes, around the nose, etc.). Using your large foundation brush, buff your foundation in a circular motion until it’s entirely blended in. I LOVE BareMinerals, available at sephora.com. Lighter coverage is better for this “natural glamour” look.

6. Using your kabuki brush, dust a tiny bit (you can always layer more later) of bronzer on places where light would naturally hit: the top of your forehead (ever so lightly–especially if you’re pale!), bridge of the nose, eyelids, cheekbones and chin. Use a heavier hand on your cheekbones, but don’t let the bronzer be your blush! NARS’ Orgasm/Laguna blush/bronzer duo is perfect for this look and Laguna works with most skin types.

7. After dusting off your kabuki brush, use it to apply a soft, slightly shimmery coral blush to the apples of your cheeks. Again, NARS’ Orgasm blush complements almost all skin tones.

8. To finish off the look, take your small eyeshadow brush and apply the shimmery white shadow in the corners of your eyes and on the outer brow bone. Gloss your lips with a shade like Stila’s tangerine.

Voila! You’re ready for your close up!

Awards, Emmy – The annual awards for excellence in television will be moved from late September, when they are traditionally held, to August in 2010. This is great news — now you can not care about the Emmy Awards almost an entire month earlier than you normally would.

Dancing, Dirty — The TV Guide channel has announced that it will host a special 12-hour Dirty Dancing marathon, which will show the film back to back six times, on Christmas Day. While it seems like a terrible idea in theory, in practicality it will make a wonderful tool for driving unwanted family, friends and neighbors from your home.

Lively, Blake – The Gossip Girl star and upcoming headliner of the film the Many Lives of Pippa Lee, which details a younger woman’s romance with an older man, tells Parade Magazine what it was like lying naked atop 75 year-old veteran actor Alan Arkin. “It really took me back,” Lively allegedly said. “I always loved that old faux-leather beanbag chair my family kept in the basement.”

Mayer, John — The guitarist, now promoting a new album, tells the UK’s Guardian that “you can’t make music a famous person — famous people make really bad records.” He then excused himself to twitter witty bon mots nonstop for four and a half hours, conduct interviews for Access Hollywood and Extra, drop in and try out some standup comedy at the Stress Factory in L.A. and date the most famous people he could find.

Reality, Augmented — To coincide with the release of the supposedly revolutionary 3-D James Cameron film Avatar, McDonald’s Coca-Cola and Mattel have teamed for happy meal toys featuring “augmented reality,” which will allow kids to see their toys spring to life visually when held up in front of a webcam. Because that’s a great idea — putting more children in front of webcams. Might want to think this one through.

Street, Sesame — REM, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon and LL Cool J are represented in Rolling Stone’s giant list of the greatest musical performances in Sesame Street history. The list actually is rather impressive, even if it does grievously omit the episodes where Prairie Dawn suffers a wardrobe malfunction, Ozzy Osbourne bites the head off Big Bird and Jim Morrison shows up drunk and exposes himself to Oscar the Grouch.
