I was down at the Rottnest Island Visitor Centre in E-shed today sorting out a permit for Rottnest and I noticed a little community has sprung up on its doorstep.

Accommodation for Rottnest 2010 goes on sale next Tuesday and demand is high as you can imagine. Some people have already been queuing for three days. It all seemed very civilized with cozy blankets, kettles for hot drinks and ice-cream.

Good things come to those who wait.

That’s what I’m calling this one which came from two lovely brother and sister basset hounds we met and nearly rescued this year.  This quilt has nothing to do with basset hounds really, but I loved those names together.

So encouraged each time we head out to Linn Park at the increased involvement, contributions and the crescendo of passion exhibited toward the need. We were able to provide flats of fresh bread to Brother Bryan and countless warm coats for distribution to those who need it most this winter.

Thank you once again for the partnership in providing blankets, gloves, coats, toiletries, water, books, crackers, candy and other items. These little things will likely not change the world but so often we aim for the big things and their left to struggle for the day to day.

I’m so pleased to work with each of you to touch the lives of people in ways that may seem to some as insignificant.

It’s been awhile, I am sorry!  Life got in the way.  I would much rather spend the time with my girls, as they will remember my name in six months, whereas the companies that I review their products can’t remember my name from day to day.

We had a field trip to the Zoo about three hours away this week, and we had so much fun.  The girls were upset that Stingray Bay was closed they wanted to go back the next day just to see the Stingray’s.  I had to work though and it wasn’t possible.  Another time.  They are already planning  the trip.

We are preparing for the Thanksgiving Holiday.   Which in our house means being extra thankful.  We don’t get into all the hype of the holidays just want to focus on the goodness that God has blessed us with each year.  Lost teeth, good grades, health, being together!  You get the picture.

I have some good reviews for you and a contest for a Charm bracelet that actually survived my job.  I work at a newspaper and I’ve lost many a good piece of jewelry to harsh environment and busy days, but I am proud to say this Charm bracelet survived without a scratch.

I’ve got a cool game review coming up, and a nice warm blanket in time for those cool nights.

I am still trying to find some good holiday photo cards to review, which seems to be impossible.  A vaccum, a new set of pans for the new year and a nice fragrance.  Organizational tools for busy people.

I’ve been asked to find some good solid story books for children that attend headstart and find generous donors.  This is a challenge in this economy but I know I can count on my readers to lead me in the right direction.

So I wish you a good week and remember to be thankful as you prepare your dinner for your family, be thankful that you have a roof over your head, a family to share this special day, be thankful that you have food to eat, that you are warm and blessed.

…At least according to Suzannah, age 8, my slightly impertinent daughter.  While I really liked it, the last layout was given a big thumbs down, despite what you all thought.  *gasp*  So, after turning and fidgeting and fussing, I came up with this.  I’m calling this quilt ‘bunting’ because the sides remind me of the fabulous triangle banners everyone is making these days.

I really like the red border. 

Also, the bigger areas of white are really pleasing to me. 

And, after laying this out the aforementioned impertinent daughter gave this one a ‘big thumbs up’, and “will it be done in time for my sleepover party?”  ….which is in one week.

Wolverine

The wolverine is the largest member of the weasel family, weighing up to thirty pounds.  With its dark, shaggy hair and short bushy tail, the wolverine looks something like a small bear.  It lives in northern forests.

It has a skunk-like scent for defense and is sometimes called a “skunk bear.”

For its size, the wolverine is unequaled in appetite and craftiness, and is the trapper’s worst enemy.

During the winter, the wolverine follows the trapper’s footsteps and skillfully steals the bait from the traps set for more valuable animals, or eats the animals caught in the trap.

The wolverine not only robs the trapper of his bait and catch, but may even sneak into the trapper’s cabin, eat his food and steal anything in sight, including rifles, axes, dishes, even blankets, all of which it carries away and buries.

It repays his “host” by leaving the cabin uninhabitable by its foul smell.

Because they have been hunted ruthlessly, wolverines have become rare in North America and are seldom seen enough of Canada today. – Johnny Wonder

Here is the finished edition of baby blanket no. 1.

  Baby Blanket no. 1 – Knit with 2 strands of sock wool – 1 strand multicoloured, 1 strand plain – size 3  100 cm circular needle but not knit in a circle.  It was knit going back and forth all the time – garter stitch.  It’s packed now for our move across the street – I’ll put in the measurements when we get unpacked.

How many more baby blankets will I knit?  I’ve started my 2nd one so we’ll see how I get on.  I have 112 stitches for the 2nd one.  I am making it slightly narrower –  maybe 2 inches narrower – than baby blanket no. 1.
