Hari ini, mendung masih enggan menjauh dari kota Depok, juga dari hati ini. Kucoba menatap langit, mencoba mengoyak tabir langit.

Percuma.

Jalan-jalan bentar tadi ke Bazaar Get D’Book nya Justify FHUI, sekedar melongok buku yang ada, dan aku akhirnya beli buku ini.

Yap, Chicken Soup for the College Soul, buku yang ga bisa dibilang baru, tapi aku mau refreshing sejenak. Dan mau menemukan kembali semangat belajar ku. Semoga ini tidak menjadi hal yang terlambat. Ya, i need some inspiration.

Beberapa cuil inspirasi lagi kudapat di kelas MPKS Film, tadi nonton sebuah film yang menarik, membuat aku meneteskan air mata juga sekilas.

Judulnya, “le Grande Voyage” , sebuah film Prancis karya Ismael Ferroukhi, mengisahkan perjalanan seorang anak yang tampaknya sedikit Atheis (atau Agnostik ?) mengantar ayahnya naik haji dari Prancis, berkelana di atas mobil Peugeot bobrok, dibuntuti seorang nenek yang aneh di Beograd, tertimpa salju di Sofia, ditipu mentah-mentah di Istanbul, bertengkar hebat di Syria, dan mencapai puncaknya di Baitullah, Mekkah. Apa yang terjadi di sana? Silahkan liat sendiri filmnya. Yang jelas, film ini recommended, apalagi kalo ditonton sekarang, karena udah mau Idul Adha.

Dan, aku butuh berpikir, mencoba menyingkirkan mendung, menembus mendung, atau malah, tetap dibodoh-bodohi mendung.

Happening upon the Brooklyn Brewery (79 North 11th St) in Williamsburg on a Friday night, I had a drink there for the first time – you can take a free tour of the building on the weekends from 1-4PM or have a drink at happy hour. The following evening I happened upon Tea & Sympathy and was drawn like a moth to a light by the radiation of coziness.

Dragon Ball: Raging Blast is the latest in a long, long series of games that try to take the superpowered fighting action of the popular anime series and adapt it into a compelling fighting game. The results here prove to be mixed. The visuals ably reproduce the lightning-quick speed and tremendous power that make the battles in Dragon Ball exciting. However, the fighting system lacks the depth and nuance to actually capture that excitement, making Raging Blast a game that Dragon Ball fans may enjoy for its breadth of content but one that has little to offer the uninitiated.

No mountainside is safe from these warriors.

The fights in Raging Blast take place in huge environments throughout which characters can dash and soar in any direction. Movement is handled simply, with the left stick hovering you forward, backward, and to the sides, while the shoulder buttons are used to fly up or down. The camera is situated behind your character and generally manages to keep both you and your opponent on screen, except in situations when you are on different vertical planes. In moments like this, you’re given a great view of your fighter’s head or feet while your opponent is nowhere to be found. It’s easy enough to locate your opponent again–the tap of a button will make you immediately rocket toward your rival–but it happens frequently enough to be a nuisance. And while at first glance the environments look as if they go on forever, this illusion is shattered the first time you find yourself impeded by one of the invisible walls that surround them.

The actual fighting offers a fair amount of complexity but very little depth. There’s a comprehensive training mode in which Goku familiarizes Gohan with all of the techniques, and it takes some time to progress through it all. You’ll practice dash attacks, charge attacks, smash attacks, and numerous other attacks, as well as defense maneuvers. It’s quite a bit to take in, though unlike many fighting games, there are no tricky inputs to memorize for any attacks here. Some actions require a precisely timed button press to pull off, but at most, you’ll need to push a thumbstick in one direction and tap a button to perform even the most powerful of attacks.

This focus on easily performed, extremely powerful attacks helps make the battles feel tremendous, with characters constantly being sent flying backward through the air with such force that any mountains or buildings in their way get obliterated. But it also prevents the core action from being very involving. Performing these devastating attacks that are the staple of every warrior’s arsenal requires “ki,” which you build up by landing relatively weak punches and kicks. There’s no nuance to these standard attacks; they’re all performed with just one button, which you can tap to unleash combos or hold down to charge up a more powerful attack that will send your opponent soaring. But these attacks do so little damage to your opponent that they’re not very useful. The only reason to use these weak attacks is to build up your ki, which makes the majority of fights feel overly simplistic and downright predictable. Ki can also be accumulated by holding down on the D pad, leaving you temporarily vulnerable to attack, but this comes with its own set of problems. For a game whose focus should be intense fighting, Raging Blast requires you to spend too much time slowly building your ki power, drawing attention away from the more interesting aspects of combat.

Raging Blast has a wide variety of modes, the most interesting of which is Dragon Battle Collection. Here, you play through many story arcs from the series, such as the Saiyan Saga, the Frieza Saga, and the Androids Saga, as well as a number of what-if scenarios. Those familiar with the lore will likely enjoy reliving some of their favorite moments here, but the unfamiliar will find the storytelling so poor that they’ll have a hard time making sense of what’s happening, much less finding it interesting. There is some incentive to playing through these sagas because you’ll unlock characters, special moves, and items that you can equip to improve a fighter’s attack power, defense, health or some other characteristic. The grand total of more than 70 characters seems impressive at first, but that fades fast as you realize that they all feel pretty much the same in action.

Here come the pain!

In addition to the stories, Raging Blast has a standard assortment of fighting game modes, such as Arcade, Survival, Time Attack, and a Tournament option that allow up to 16 players to fight it out for supremacy. Unfortunately, competing against friends on the same console is tough to enjoy because the screen is split down the middle, which severely limits your view of the action. Online combat is a better option, but it’s plagued by a significant percentage of competitors who won’t hesitate to disconnect if things aren’t going their way.

The visuals capture the look of Dragon Ball with striking success. The characters look as if they’ve stepped right out of the anime, with the smoothness and speed of the action found in the series faithfully reproduced here. The music is upbeat and catchy but much too repetitive. And while the voice actors bring the same steadfast enthusiasm to this material as they bring to the anime, you’ll quickly grow tired of hearing the same few taunts.

The huge assortment of characters, stories, costumes, and other aspects of Dragon Ball lore cannot hide how shallow and uninspired the fighting mechanics are. There is no depth to your actions, making it a slow-paced race to be the first person to build up your ki power, which quickly becomes monotonous. With the wide assortment of deep and varied fighting games already on the market, it’s impossible to ignore the many faults present in this often-dull anime-inspired brawler.

Does Covergirl Lashblast Length live up to its name?

What it is: Covergirl Lashblast Length mascara ($7.59)

What it’s supposed to do: “Our new Elasta-Nylon formula flexes without flaking, giving you extreme, notice-me lashes all day long. Our longest brush ever gives you an 80% longer lash look.” [via Covergirl.com]

What it actually does: Umm… in a word, more or less nothing. One coat was honestly hardly noticeable, in terms of length, volume, and curl. Here, I’ll let you judge for yourself:

Alright, so the mascara didn’t do nothing, but it’s a pretty darn subtle difference – too subtle if you’ve got lashes as wimpy as mine. It provided minor curl, length (but not nearly 80% – I would give it maybe 30%, and that’s being generous), and almost no volume. However, what little it did provide lasted through the day with no smudging or flaking, hooray! Lashblast definitely performed best in the “length” category, so at least Covergirl isn’t guilty of false advertisement.

Pros: Doesn’t smudge or flake, lasts all day, doesn’t clump when layered

Cons: Provides very minor length, curl, and volume.

Overall: 2/5. I would recommend this only to someone who has great lashes to begin with and just wants a little extra boost – it won’t do much for the rest of us.

Il en est de bonnes surprises, comme cette « Grasse carcasse », premier opus d’une série de cinq imaginée et dessinée par Manu Larcenet. Les dessins délicats en noir et blanc et leur trait fin et léger offrent un peu de douceur à l’ambiance intrigante et un rien malsaine de ce huis clos dont on ne s’échappe que grâce aux souvenirs d’un petit monsieur obèse peu ragoûtant. Polza Mancini est cuisiné par deux flics nerveux qui essaient tant bien que mal de lui tirer les vers du nez, tout en douceur, pour éviter de le brusquer et de couper le contact. Alors Polza se raconte. Sa vie médiocre, sa carrière littéraire ratée, sa relation maritale sans passion, la mort de son père, et puis l’événement qui a fait basculer sa vie : un premier blast (entendez une espèce d’explosion mentale) qui l’a mené à tout quitter pour se rendre sur l’île de Pâques. Les poulets s’impatientent. Tout cela n’a ni queue ni tête et ne nous dit pas ce qui est arrivé à la jolie Carole Oudinot!

Suspected ULFA militants triggered two blasts close to a police station in Nalbari on Sunday, killing at least six persons and injuring 50 others. The first bomb, planted in a bicycle, went off at a spot adjacent to the police station at around 9:30 am, Superintendent of Police Jitmol Doley said.

A similar blast occurred minutes after in front of a mobile phone shop, about 20 metres away from the police station, as people were trying to flee from the area, he said.

Vehicles parked in the busy and crowded area were damaged due to the impact of the blasts.

The areas where the blasts took place have been cordoned off by the police, which was carrying out a combing operation in the area.

Prima facie the blasts seemed to be the handiwork of ULFA, according to police sources.

The deceased have been identified as Keshab Das, Dipu Das and Ganesh Das, all local residents, and Pavan Thakur from Bihar, Doley said.

A high alert has been sounded across the state in view of the blasts and people have been asked to remain indoors by the district administration. (With PTI inputs)

China mine blast: Atleast 42 killed and 66 trapped

A deadly gas explosion has killed at least 42 miners and trapped more than 60 others, in a Chinese mine on Saturday. The incident occurred at about 2.30 a.m. when 528 people were working hundreds of feet underground. Rescue workers reported that about 400 workers successfully escaped the mine. The Xinxing mine is in Heilongjiang province, which borders Russia and is owned by the Heilongjiang Longmei Mining Holding Group.

A rescue team of about 156 personnel is working on the site to retrieve the trapped workers. The fact that the blast has destroyed the mine’s ventilation and communication system, is making the relief and rescue mission more challenging. The impact of the blast shook the nearby buildings and partially damaged some of them. The falling debris of the buildings left some of the escaping survivors unconscious.

The Chinese Vice Premier, Zhang Dejiang who reached the accident site, met the injured, while Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao have personally issued instructions about the rescue work. China has recently and historically, been witness to some of the world’s deadliest mining industry disasters.

China is one of the NPT-recognized nuclear power states but still relies for about 80% of its power needs on thermal power, fueled by coal. Despite a recent government drive to clamp down on the small, unsafe operations where most accidents occur, lax safety standards and strong demand for coal makes these mines the deadliest in the world. The official sources have reported a 12% drop in fatalities in mines in the first seven months of this year over the last year after the smaller operations were closed down. In 2008 alone, more than 3,000 people died in mine floods, explosions, collapses and other accidents in China.

Suicide bomber kills 16 in Afghanistan

KABUL – A suicide bomber riding a motorcycle killed 16 people, including two children and a policeman, and wounded at least 23 others Friday in a busy city square in western Afghanistan, officials said.

Provincial Gov. Rohul Amin said the blast occurred about 55 yards (50 meters) from his compound in a crowded square in Farah.

Afghan police shouted “Stop! Stop!” at the motorcyclist before he detonated the explosives, provincial police chief Gen. Mohammad Faqir Askar said. It was unclear what the bomber was targeting.

Amin said the 16 killed included two children. Dr. Shir Agh Asas at the hospital in Farah city said several children also were among the wounded. A police officer also died.

“These days Taliban are causing high casualties because the foreign forces and Afghan forces have been conducting operations against the insurgency in the region,” Askar said.

Kan ni tro, det regnar här i dag också. Börjar bli en vana att dra på sig regnstället när man ska ut. Glad ändå att jag inte bor i södra delarna av vårt avlånga land, för där utlovas ett nytt blåsväder idag. Inte lika blåsigt som senast, men blåsigt! Är det något jag inte gillar så är det att vara i blåsväder!

Själv ska jag strax ge mig ut på de djurrika vägarna häromkring för veckans sista jobbardag. Skönt med lite vila ska det bli, eller vila kanske inte är rätt ord. Man har ju en hel del att hinna i kapp som man inte hunnit under veckan! Rådjur är det ju gott om på vägen där jag åker, ser nästan sådana varje dag. Läste nyss om rådjuret med nio liv. Först blev det påkört av en bil och fastnade i grillen. Föraren körde till en polisstation för att få hjälp eftersom rådjuret fortfarande levde. När man fick loss rådjuret skulle polisen skjuta det, men blev själva beskjutna så rådjuret hann ge sig iväg. Detta inträffade i Delaware USA. Ganska otrolig historia måste jag säga!

Ibland blir man så arg när man läser nyheterna. En gravid kvinna i 20 års åldern har blivit våldtagen i sitt hem av någon som ringde på dörren. Hennes graviditet är långt framskriden. Vem fan gör något sånt? Just precis när jag läser har jag en massa tankar om vad den personen borde få för straff, och det är inga trevliga tankar – lämpar sig inte i skrift kan jag säga!

Men nu ska jag ge mig ut på vägarna genom skogarna! Förhoppningsvis hyfsat djurfritt i dag också!

Eighteen people have been killed and 44 others injured in the latest terror attack in Peshawar in North West Pakistan. Three policemen and a lawyer are also among the dead.

The blast, a suicide attack, targeted the court on Khyber Road. The bomber blew himself up when he was being frisked at the gate of the judicial complex. The blast on Thursday morning was so powerful that several cars parked nearby were destroyed. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and neighbouring schools were closed down.

Glad att jag inte bor i Skåne

I Skåne är det storm sägs det, eller stormvarning i alla fall. Jag hatar när det blåser så där mycket så jag är innerligt glad att jag inte bor där och jag hoppas att eländet “blåst över” innan det kommer hit! Öresundsbron är visst avstängd, om den inte har hunnit öppna igen, och många har drabbats av elavbrott i Skåne. Usch vad sånt väder är tråkigt!

Hemresan från jobbet gick bra, inga fler viltolyckor efter vägen och endast ett rådjur såg jag och det gick över en bra bit framför mej så det var ingen fara alls. Men nästan varje dag så ser jag vilt efter vägen, vi har otroligt mycket rådjur här, där jag åker är det också mycket hjort. Sen har vi dom vanliga rävarna och grävlingarna som är ute och lufsar. Det gäller att passa sig!

Något rådjur hade jag inte på bild så ni får nöja er med en partiell häst
