So, I have a 1996 Audi A4 B5 1.8. It comes stock with a Blaupunkt radio. The radio itself says it’s a Gamma CC, whereas everything on the internet points it towards being a Delta CC.

Anyway, effectively my car’s battery was replaced, which sends the radio into lock down mode. Enter a 4 digit pin, and you can continue using the radio. The code for said radio comes with the radio’s manual, with neat instructions about what to do with the code. It recommends cutting it out and storing it in a safe place, something the previous owner of my car did with much enthusiasm.

Anyway, I have effectively been left with a radio that I can’t use. This was two days before I was supposed to take a 3000km tour in said car. I spent hours on the internet searching for ways to get the code. And was blocked at every way.

In the end I discovered that the only way to get the code, is to take your car to Audi, they charge you for their minimum work time (roughly R275) and give you your code, after 5min.

I don’t like to think of myself as stingy, but to pay R275 (the cost of a low end frontloader) for them to do this goes against who I am. It didn’t help that my previous dealings with the local Audi dealership left us on unsavoury terms.

Apparently it is possible to get your code from Blaupunkt themselves. I haven’t tested this myself, but Maple Audio can allegedly get your code for you if you supply them with the radio’s serial code. For the pricely sum of GBP25 that is.

But yet again here I was, stuck on a Friday night without a radio. I decided the best plan would be to replace the radio with an old radio we had lying around at home. This I proceeded to do on Saturday morning.

Fortunately I had had the foresight to get a local car audio place to remove the radio for me, as I found myself without a means to remove the radio. After looking at the mechanism, you can take the radio out with some steel wire if need be. I have a nail file in a knife which also works quite nicely.

Simply push whatever “key” you are using with the point on the outer side of the hole and push the key in and shift it inwards. You can understand the way it works by looking at the picture.

How to remove the radio. Just slip something in the side and pull the radio towards you, you can do one side at a time.

So, unlike on previous cars I’ve dealt with, the Audi’s radio has three wiring harnesses that plug a veritable array of non-colour coded wires into the radio. Most of the other radios I’ve dealt with adhere to a standard wiring system, with different colours symbolising which speaker the wire leads to, what is positive. negative etc. Not on this one.

Anyway, after a while of fiddling round I figured out a system that would work.

The radio I was installing is a cheap radio with four wires. Left, Right, Positive (power) and common (for the speakers). Simple enough.

Because I didn’t want to just chop off all the wiring harnesses on the car’s side, I had to figure out a method of making plugs that would fit, that I could solder onto the radio’s wires. I ended up using little wiring plugs that I cut to size with a pair of side cutters.

I hooked up two plugs for each of the left and right wires, so I could have sound front and back. I also found a washer and screw to attach an earth to the back of the radio.

The car had a dedicated earth plug, but I found that making use of it only supplied my radio with 9V, so instead I used one of the earth’s on the wiring harness.

Now on the Delta CC radio there is wiring diagram of what all the pins are supposed to link up to, unfortunately some of them are missing, which I only noticed after having soldered and wired all my plugs.

I eventually ended up only connecting the front speakers, because for some reason only they would work, even though I feel that the back speakers should have worked with the way I had wired it. But in any case.

I used the point corresponding to pin H for the negative (earth) on my radio and pin B fo the positive. I checked the voltage before hand to ensure there was 12V and also chose this connection as it supplies the 12V even with the ignition off.

I initially attempted to use i -> ix points to hook up the sound but couldn’t get it work. Partly because my wiring harnesses were missing the contact points ii & viii. I ended up using points A -> D and just hooking up the front speakers. Because I wasn’t going to play the music too loudly, I didn’t bother to test which was the positive and negative of the speakers and just hooked up 1 & 2 as common, and 3 & 4 as the positives for the left and right speakers.

If you are installing a permanent radio, it is advised to check the polarity of the speakers. This can be done by removing the speaker’s covers and attaching a 1.5V battery to it. If the speaker bulges outwards as you attach the battery, you have the polarity correct. If the speaker membrane retracts, switch the polarity.

Now, the aerial. This posed a particular problem, why? because the radio aerial connector on the Audi is not the standard one that I know. So, to overcome this, I just didn’t bother hooking it up. I was originally going to use an FM transmitter with an MP3 player to listen to music, but due to this problem, I instead opted for one of these cassette adaptations (that I had lying around the house), which allow a 3.5mm audio input.

Some time in the future I’ll figure out how to correctly connect the rear speakers as well, and post it here. Any questions feel free to post below.

Sorry for the long windedness of this post. Once I get going I tend not to stop too soon.

This system worked for me for my entire journey, only decision I have to make now is what radio to buy Also, my next plan will be to build a cruise control system into my car.

Ab kommenden Herbst ist es möglich, alle acht Internet-Radio-Programme von ANTENNE VORARLBERG auch im Auto zu hören.

Möglich machen es zwei Autoradiogeräte des Herstellers Blaupunkt, mit denen man auf ANTENNE VORARLBERG-Digital auch von unterwegs aus zugreifen kann. Bislang kann man das komplette Radio-Angebot des Senders vom Büro oder von Zuhause aus, über das iPhone oder per Internet unter www.antenne.vol.at einschalten.

Die Zukunft der Radiovielfalt im Ländle beginnt im Herbst 2009. Neben dem etablierten Empfang von ANTENNE VORARLBERG über UKW und normalen Radiogeräten besteht dann auch die Möglichkeit, digital das komplette Senderangebot im Auto zu empfangen.

Der Autoradiohersteller Blaupunkt hat auf der Elektronikfachmesse Cebit nun erstmals zwei entwickelte Internet-Radio-Prototypen vorgestellt, mit denen vom Steuer aus auf ANTENNE VORARLBERG-Digital zugegriffen werden kann. Hinter ANTENNE VORARLBERG-Digital stehen acht weitere Radioprogramme des Senders. Darunter die Programme „Classic Rock”, „Lounge-Musik” oder „Schlagerkult”, die bislang nur auf dem Handy oder von Zuhause via Internet unter www.antenne.vol.at empfangen werden könnten.

Nach Angaben des Herstellers Blaupunkt greift das Autoradio von Morgen auf die gängige UMTS-Verbindung von Handys zu und baut via Bluetooth-Funktion eine Verbindung auf. Auch der Empfang über UKW und Mittelwelle wird weiterhin bei den neuen Autoradios möglich sein. Laut Hersteller sollen die Geräte bereits ab 300 Euro und ab dem zweiten Halbjahr 2009 im Fachhandel erhältlich sein.

„Für uns als Hörfunkprogrammanbieter ermöglicht diese neue Technologie neben dem Massenprogramm ANTENNE VORARLBERG auch unsere schon bestehenden Spartenprogramme einer breiten Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren. Blaupunkt stellt auf der CeBIT zwei Autoradios mit Webradio-Empfang vor. Die Autoradios Hamburg 600i und New Jersey 600i können via Bluetooth den Internetzugang eines UMTS-Handys nutzen und über diesen Internet-Radioprogramme streamen. Zur Auswahl stehen mehr als 16.000 Sender, die über das “miRoamer”-Webportal verwaltet  und ohne URL-Eingabe auf dem Radio ausgewählt werden können.

Die Markteinführung der beiden Webradios ist für die zweite Jahreshälfte 2009 geplant. Das Hamburg 600i für den konventionellen DIN-Schacht soll ca. 299 EUR und das New Jersey 600i als 2-DIN-Gerät rund 399 EUR kosten.

So this thing streams music via Bluetooth from your cellphone.  Oh, and they don’t even bother to let you browse all the channels via the in car head unit.  You have to go online to do that.  You set up your prefs online in your spare time and they’ll be there for you in the car when you’re ready to go.  Hmmm, novel idea.

Das Radio soll demnach neben dem klassischen Radioempfang über UKW und Mittelwelle einen CD- und mp3-Spieler und den Zugang zu den zehntausenden Sendern im Internet bieten.

It’s wonderful that TV has expanded beyond three channels, for example, but it’s too bad we don’t all wake up Monday morning having seen Ed Sullivan the night before.

In my world of talk radio, I love that some big chunk of the city of Boston tunes in WRKO in the morning, so the community can come together and have a conversation.

Blaupunkt was one of the exhibitors at a pre-CES event last night, giving journalists a look at what it calls the world’s first Internet car radio. Developed with miRoamer, an online Internet radio portal, Blaupunkt’s new products will allow you to listen to thousands of Internet radio stations while driving.

But it’s sad that, driving in to work in the 10th largest media market in the country at 4am, there’s not one station offering a live local newscast or talk show.

The company showed two prototype models, a single-DIN unit called the Hamburg 600i and a taller, double-DIN unit called the New Jersey 600i. Both let you choose from AM, FM, or internet-radio stations. While there are now ways of listening to Internet radio in the car through a third-party device, these represent the first in-dash units to offer this feature.

We’ll soon have cable in the car – with far more than 100 channels. But we’ll have the ability to listen to the kids playing if the day care center choses to feed some live audio over the internet.

When you want to listen to Internet radio, the head unit sets up a Bluetooth connection with a compatible cell phone and begins streaming the signal via the phone’s data feed. You can choose individual stations or browse by genre, location, or mood. Users can customize their Internet radio settings, including presets and favorites, online through the miRoamer.com Web site. You can choose from tens of thousands of stations or enter stations of your choosing. But, logically, if there’s no data service in the area in which you’re driving, no Internet radio.

As radio loses its monopoly for delivering live audio to the car and more radios tune elsewhere, local radio will make less money, so there will be less local radio.

The first Blaupunkt models to offer this feature are expected in the second half of 2009, and will be offered as an original-equipment option in new cars by an undisclosed automaker. The single-DIN unit is estimated to cost about $250 to $300, and the double-DIN, about $350 to $400.

You might as well mark today the death of traditional radio. A company called Blaupunkt revealed the first Internet Car Radio today at CES 2009 in Las Vegas. This radio will feature both internet and terrestrial radio and will run off a 3G GSM network similar to the technology AT&T uses and is on the newer model Iphone.

With the advent of this technology, radio consoles in cars could be completely digitized with even a USB port and the ability to make a phone call through your dashboard. There’s also an AUX plug for connecting your mp3 player, gps, or any other type of gadget built in. Oh and let’s not forget the CD disc drive. More after the jump:

It will be interesting to see how a company like SiriusXM (which just announced its dual receiver the MiRGER) or even Clear Channel will attempt to compete against what will certainly be a new and dominant internet radio medium.

Jo visst, jeg kunne godt ha skrevet om både filmen og boka og lydboka og forfatter Tore Renberg generelt for den saks skyld – men det kan jeg heller gjøre en annen gang.

La meg denne gangen heller hylle det som kanskje er tidenes beste og mest gjennomførte norske soundtrack! På denne dobbeltplaten grasseres det i vei med hits fra den delen av åttitallet som ikke handlet om pastell og skulderputer så spisse at folk pådro seg øyeskader (sant!). Her det new wave, her på berget gjerne eller ugjerne refert til som «nyveiv», og punk som utgjør plattformen.

Som soundtrack er dette en salig blanding av hits og rimelig obskure ting – alt med en blodrød tråd i bunn som gjør det helhetlig og dokumentarisk. Ingen respekt å spore heller, her ramler Iggy Pop om kull med Jokke & Valentinerne, Violet Femmes går en runde med Stavangerenseblet - og alt er stort sett ufattelig bra, inkludert de få låtene som ble laget spesielt for filmen.

Vi får også servert en rekke norske klassikere som Blaupunkts uforglemmelige tolkning av «Jeg vil være ung» og The Cuts «In Dieser Stadt». For ikke å snakke om Skjønn Forenings «Jeg ser dobbelt», en av åttitallets beste låter overhodet. Gamle glemte skatter om igjen – mer sånn altså!

Konklusjon:  Med bortimot førti låter fordelt på to plater utgjør dette en representativ og topptung stjerneforening av romantisk, svartmalt, innrøkt rockemusikk fra de isbelagte åttitallet. Det er innblikk i en periode i norsk rock som definitivt var mer enn a-Ha og The Monroes og som dermed er med på å gi et misforstått tiår sårt tiltrengt oppreising. Hurra! Nå er det bare å vente på den ultimate nittitallsfilmen der hovedpersonen går på trynet på So What til tonene av Bevers «Animals In Motion».

I just replaced my 8″ powered Bazooka in the back of the prius with this little compact guy, and I’m pretty happy with it. I was able to hide it in the underneath cargo area in the back. I used the metal mounting plates that came with the unit and screwed it into the plastic cargo tray.  I also put a little piece of Dynamat underneath for good measure.   It worked out really nicely, and is now nicely hidden and tucked away. I am happy to get all my trunk space back!
