5/5

Having firmly routed a UK flag pole in the charts of almost every major country around the world with her record breaking single Bleeding Love, Leona Lewis finally embarks on the voyage which will almost certainly set the tone for the rest of her career. Fluke successes come and go and small discoveries are often soon forgotten. This chart conqueror, though, seems determined to make more of a lasting claim on the continents she won over two years ago with her debut album Spirit. New release Echo sees the continuation of a number of working collaborations with some welcome additions and a definite growth and maturity in musical sound.

The sought after Ryan Tedder is back to provide two album highlights; both lead single Happy and the OneRepublic duet Lost Then Found. Both tracks demonstrate a depth of emotion that was perhaps a little lacking in Lewis’ debut and although the pop sparkle of Bleeding Love is traded for a more gritty, philosophical tone, the transaction is a fruitful one. Max Martin, the father of modern pop music, also returns with Outta My Head which could well just blow a few minds. Although Lewis has dabbled with a little bit of pop before, the phrase up-beat has been a bit of a no go zone. Well no longer! Outta My Head sees Lewis easily competing with the ‘GaGa-Bootylicious’ of today and must surely be a future single. Though Ne-Yo’s presence is sorely diminished, Justin Timberlake more than fills the gap with Don’t Let Me Down, focussing on a more authentically urban sound.

Leona Lewis cynics, who continuously criticise her preference for ballads, will be blasted out of the water by Broken and My Hands. These two songs mark, perhaps, only the second time that Lewis’ extraordinary vocal abilities have been matched by an equally incredible lyrical content. The voice soars, the lyrics dig deep and the production values draw the two extremities together beautifully. Whilst some will continue to call her dull and predictable, those who really listen will hear an artistry that is genuinely unmatched by any other female singer in the genre right now.

Do we really want Leona Lewis to start singing club friendly tracks when it is the ballads that set her apart from everyone else? Isn’t that the reason that we voted for Alexandra Burke last year?

Once or twice was enough and it was all in vain
Time starts to pass before you know it you’re frozen (Frozen…)
Oh, but something happened for the very first time with you
My heart was melted to the ground found something true
And everyone’s looking round thinking I’m going crazy, baby

But I don’t care what they say, I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away but they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein that I keep on closing
You cut me open and I, I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, I keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love, you cut me open

Trying hard not to hear but they talk so loud
Their piercing sounds fill my ears try to fill me with doubt
Yet I know that the goal is to keep me from falling (Ohh…)
Oh, but nothing’s greater than the rush that comes with your embrace
And in this world of loneliness I see your face
Yet everyone around me thinks that I’m going crazy (Crazy)
Maybe (Maybe)

But I don’t care what they say, I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away but they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein that I keep on closing
You cut me open and I, I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, I keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love, you cut me open

And it’s draining all of me, oh they find it hard to believe
I’ll be wearing these scars for everyone to see

‘Cause I don’t care what they say, I’m in love with you
They try to pull me away but they don’t know the truth
My heart’s crippled by the vein that I keep on closing
Oh, you cut me open and I, I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, I keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love, oh you cut me open and I
I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, I keep, keep bleeding love
I keep bleeding, keep, keep bleeding love.

PS: sorry if it’s wrong to love that way baby

For others, those nasty comments should be something to be alarmed about but for me, Hell No!!! They just prove themselves wrong, if I am indeed a B#%^@ why talk about me? you see it’s a sign of INSECURITY, they scrutinize others in order to gain attention, because they are not intelligent or gorgeous enough to get their own limelight, they are using me to gain/direct others attention to them (so unfortunate I get all the credit).. do I feel used?
Adding his version of Bleeding Love that he duets with Bonnie Somerville, Jake Walden re-released his Alive and Kicking Deluxe Edition Album.
If you thought that last week’s X Factor was good, this weeks was even better. With Whitney

If you thought that last week’s X Factor was good, this weeks was even better. With Whitney’s wardrobe malfunction and Cheryl bursting into tears, the weekend’s antics will definately go down in X Factor history. But enough about that – bring on Diva Week!

Lucie Jones was up first and in honour of this week’s special guest, Ms Houston, she sang ‘How Will I Know’. For me, Lucie wasn’t that great this week, but then again, it’s only week two. Simon felt that she ‘made an attempt to be younger’ and looked more like a pop star, but added that she would never be Whitney Houston. Meow Mr Cowell!

Then it was the turn of Olly Murs, who sang a Tina Turner song that I’d never heard of until now – ‘Fool In Love’. This was one of my favourite performances of the night. Cheyl thought it was the best performance he’d done so far.

Miss Frank were up next with their own version of Whitney’s ‘All The Man I Need’. Again, for me this week, the girls weren’t on the same par as last week. However, considering Louis was away, they can be forgiven. Simon wasn’t in a very forgiving mood tough, saying: “I thought it was mainly terrible”. I know it’s Diva Week, Simon, but there’s no need to take it quite so literally!

Then it was Rachel Adedeji’s turn. After being in the bottom two last week, Cheryl thought that she came back fighting this week when she sang Beyonce’s ‘If I Were A Boy’. I agree, Rachel was a lot better than last week, she just needs to bring her personality out a bit more.

Joe McElderry was next with another Whitney classic – ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go’. This was another of this week’s performances that I really enjoyed. Simon said: “If you can sing like that at your age, you’ve got a great future ahead of you”. Here, here, Simon!

There was some controversy surrounding Danyl Johnson’s performance last week. This week, Simon took another big risk with him, by choosing a Whitney song that no one had ever heard before – ‘I Didn’t Know My Own Strength’ from her new album ‘I Look To You’. This made me question Danyl’s chances this week, but he seemed to pull off another great performance. Dannii thought it was flawless.

Lloyd Daniels was next to take to the stage with his version of Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’. I wasn’t keen on this at first but, the more I’ve listened to it, the more it’s grown on me. Lloyd got a bit of stick from Simon, who said: “If I’m being honest with you, that song would have worked if it had lasted 15 seconds”. This upset Cheryl, who started to cry, but Lloyd rushed over and gave her a hug – bless.

Just when you thought their performances couldn’t get anymore bizarre, John and Edward performed ‘Oops I Did I Again’ by the diva that is Britney Spears. They even did the talking bit in the middle of the song, which was weird to say the least. Cheryl said: “I have to say, when it comes to a Saturday night, the act I’m always most looking forward to is you two”. Awww, that’s nice!

Next was Rikki Loney, with the Aretha Franklin anthem ‘R.E.S.P.E.C.T’ I thought Rikki made a great job of this, but Dannii didn’t think so. She said: “Vocally, it kicked in towards the end, so you’ve got to make sure that you grab us right from that opening line”.

Jamie Archer was next, putting his slant on Christina Aguilera’s ‘Hurt’. This was another of my favourite performances from Saturday, Cheryl liked it too, saying that he made the song his own.

Last but not least was Stacey Solomon, singing Beyonce’s version of Etta James’ ‘At Last’. Once again, I thought Stacey was fab and Cheryl agreed saying: “It sounded like you totally got into the zone”.

The Results

On Sunday’s show, after a great performance from Mrs Cole…

…and an equally great performance (which included a wardrobe malfunction) from Whitney Houston…

The results were in. Despite a good performance this week, Rachel was back in the bottom two along with Rikki. Simon had the deciding vote this week and it ended up that Rikki was sent home – I wasn’t expecting that one.

It’s Big Band Week next week, one of my favourite bits of X Factor. Comments and views on this weeks antics would be very much appreciated.

Ciao for now!

X-Factor’s second live show was last night, and it was Diva week! X-Factor classes these arti

X-Factor’s second live show was last night, and it was Diva week! X-Factor classes these artist’s as Divas: Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce. I personally disagree with Britney Spears being a DIVA but hey!? she has served her time within the music industry and has overcome a lot of things! So I’ll give it to her. This week Whitney Houston was the famous person to give the X-Factor contestants advice on the song they were singing this week. Lets just say that she was very straight forward, and wasn’t afraid to share her opinion! Before iStart with anything, can iSay that this weeks episode was very entertaining!

To stat of the show was Lucie with her version of (How Will I Know – Whitney Houston). This performance was okay! I’m not gonna knock Lucie at all because iBelieve she is a Good singer. However this performance was not her best in my eyes! It was a bit out of tune at the beginning but she kind of picked it up! But iWas a bit worried about the performance. I think the dancing put major effort and pressure on her little head!

The second person to perform was Olly. He sang “Fool In Love by Tamyra Gray (American Idol version)” Olly really wowed me with his performance! Last week iWasn’t to keen on Olly’s performance but this week he defiantly got back in my good books! He even broke down a piece of dancing! It was a good performance Plus he kept it in tune! Not a big fan of the skinny shiny trousers though Olly but Well Done! defiantly one of my favourite performances of the night!

Miss Frank were next to perform. I’m not sure if it’s me but I get really excited when Miss Frank are coming to perform, because I’m not sure if they are going to give a good performance or if it will be wack. They sang “All The Man That I Need by Whitney” At the start iWasn’t impressed. The girl with the Blonde weave (which looks bad sometimes) sounded a bit out of tune! But it doesn’t surprise me… She always does! But when the rest of the girls got together they sounded GOOD! They brought that performance back to size! They need to work on their solo parts and sort out the girl with the BAD WEAVE! I personally believe they are giving her the Beyonce image! Which doesn’t really suit her at the moment!

Rachel was next with her song. As we know Rachel was in the bottom two last week. Which really shocked me (If u read my last blog post). This week she came back stronger! She sang Beyonce If I Were A Boy! If u haven’t noticed yet Rachel is my favourite to win!! Her performance was good in my eyes. She had on a little Whitney Houston jacket. I call it the Whitney Houston jacket because it looked like the same jacket Whitney wore in the “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” Video. Rachel did me proud in my eyes, I know a lot of people was wondering why she was on the floor at the start, but she PULLED IT OFF! Here is Rachel’s performance:

Joe performed Whitney Houston’s Classic (Where Do Broken Hearts Go). I haven’t got much to say about the performance, he did well especially since his vocals ain’t all that strong! But this little man did kind of pull it off! He did well for himself. He was the best out of Cheryl’s Category tonight!

Every week it seems like Danyl Johnson has a lot of attention revolving around him. Last week he got called Cocky and he came out of the closet by Danni’s comments. This week he got told by WHITNEY HOUSTON that he better sing her song in the right Ballard! If we had video footage on the internet I would show u all but unfortunately we don’t! Danyl sang Whitney Houston’s new song of her new album which hasn’t been officially released in the UK yet. He sang “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” Whitney told Danyl that this song means A LOT to her! And was told that he better sing it right! If U get told by Whitney Houston to sing her own song right… BOY! U BETTER SING IT RIGHT! Danyl kind of did sing it right… He was okay! U can judge for urself…

The next contestant was Lloyd Daniels. He sang Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis. When iFound out that Lloyd was singing bleeding love by Leona Lewis. I thought it was a BIG no NO! He could hardly sing Justin Timberlakes “Cry Me a River”. So how the hell is he gonna sing a big Leona Lewis high hitting/chart topping song! Lloyd slowed the song RIGHT DOWN! iDidn’t think the song could have got any slower… People was saying on twitter that they liked what he did with the song… But me personally I didn’t! iThink it proves that he isn’t a good singer. Cheryl (His mentor) got emotional because its Diva week and she didn’t know what song to give him as a boy… Cheryl getting emotional proves to me that she KNEW she gave him the wrong song!

This is where my blog post gets a little bit Militant! John & Edward did the Gayest performance ever in X-Factor History! These two contestants need to be removed from the show A.S.A.P! They have no talent! Cannot sing! and they are turning the X-Factor into a Karaoke show! Watch the performance for urself and see what i’m talking about! It’s not good TV I’m telling u that now!

Rikki was next to perform. My personal views on Rikki, is… iDon’t like him personally iDon’t know why…? he just has this weird look to him! His not the best singer in my eyes, and by far will not win the X-Factor (I Hope not anyway). This week he sang Aretha Franklin R.E.S.P.C.T, Whitney Houston advised him that “U Gonna sing an Aretha song!? U better sing it Well!” which is totally true! We all know the crazy notes Aretha Franklin hits, and Rikki can’t hit them crazy notes at all! He could barely sing Amy Winehouse Back To Black! This is Rikki’s performance. P.S. Rikki please fix ur eyebrows!

Jamie! Jamie sang Christina Aguilera – Hurt. This is not one of my favourite tracks from Christina Aguilera, BUT! I do think this was a good change for Jamie! He is the kind of person to rock it out, and he Poped/Rocked it out a bit! I give him that! He took it home! iDon’t think it was his best performance but it was one of the strongest of tonight!

Last but not least is Stacey Solomon. She sang “At Last – The Beyonce version. Stacey really can sing, and iBelieve her performance was one the best. In my eyes she didn’t go out of tune. It was a good performance. I thought she looked great! I’m glad they got rid of her fringe. Her performance was a good performance good enough to keep her in for another week. HOWEVER Stacey is bit on cloud 9 when she’s not singing! Her personality its a bit… It just makes u wanna stare at her and think… O-KAY!

On Sunday’s show Whitney Houston is singing Million Dollar Bill and Cheryl Cole is singing her debut single “Fight For This Love”.

Cheryl Cole broke down in tears last night over fears she has “let down” her contestants.

The ‘X Factor’ judge – who mentors the boys – struggled to control her emotions after she was criticised by Simon Cowell for choosing Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’ for her 16-year-old contestant Lloyd Daniels to perform.

Giving his views on the blonde teenager’s performance, Simon said: “I’m going to put the blame with Cheryl. She’s not working with you properly, understanding you properly, providing you with the right material to do well.

“I think you’re talented, you’re likeable, but you’re not being directed properly at the moment.”

When talent show presenter Dermot O’Leary asked Cheryl how she felt Lloyd had performed, the 26-year-old judge’s face crumbled.

She sobbed: “I take full responsibility for the song. I found it really tough this week, it was diva week…”

“I feel like I’ve let him down.”

Lloyd jumped off the stage and raced over to comfort his mentor. The pair held hands and hugged as Cheryl mouthed, “I’m sorry.”

Once Lloyd returned to the stage, the Girls Aloud star was hugged by Simon.

But the music mogul blasted Cheryl again over her choice of song for Scottish contestant Ricki Loney – who performed an Amy Winehouse number.

Simon said: “I don’t think you’re being advised properly at the moment.”

Cheryl is due to perform on the results show tonight.

This evening’s show will also see singing sensation Whitney Houston return to the stage to perform a track from her new album ‘I Look to You’.

X Factor mentor Cheryl Cole burst into tears on live TV after being criticised over her song choices

X Factor mentor Cheryl Cole burst into tears on live TV after being criticised over her song choices for `Diva week’ by Simon Cowell. The music mogul had suggested that Cole had “got it wrong” over the selection of tracks for her hopefuls Rikki Loney and Lloyd Daniels.

Cheryl struggled to retain her composure when Simon suggested that she had “ruined” Lloyd’s chances by giving him Leona Lewis hit `Bleeding Love’.

He sniped: “You’re very, very lucky that you are cute and the chicks are going to love you. But once you went to chorus, it’s like a mouse trying to climb a mountain.

‘I’m going to place the blame with the girl to the right – she isn’t working with you properly, or understanding you, you are talented, likeable but not being directed properly.”

Cheryl then burst into tears and apologised to the youngster.

She said: “I’m sorry. I’m gonna take full responsibility for the song I gave you.

“I found it really tough this week. It was a Diva week, I hope I haven’t let you down.”

Lloyd approached the judges’ bench and gave his mentor a hug saying: “Don’t get upset, you’ve done me proud.”

Simon quickly apologised to the Girls Aloud star and gave her a kiss to make up.

Cheryl Cole burst into tears last night when grumpy Simon Cowell attacked her song choices – prompting him to apologise on live TV.

The last straw came when Cowell openly blamed her for ruining Lloyd Daniel’s chances by choosing Leona Lewis hit Bleeding Love.

Sniping Cowell blasted: “I’m going to put the blame on the girl on my right.”

A shocked Cheryl couldn’t hold back the tears, apologising to Lloyd.

But the singer dashed to her aid, taking her hand and saying: “Don’t get upset, you’ve done me proud.”

Viewers watched as Simon apologised and kissed Cheryl, saying he “couldn’t feel any smaller”.

But seconds later he blasted her again over her choice for Rikki Loney. A show source said: “It was awful. Cheryl was really upset.”

Worried bookies’ favourite Danyl SOBS: Upset Cheryl last night Johnson is having dance lessons from choreographer Brian Friedman in a desperate bid to see off bitter rival Jamie “Afro” Archer.

He wants to become an all-round entertainer – not just a singer.

Brian said: “Until now Danyl has just sung, so at his request I’m teaching him to dance.”

Peter Kowalczyk, 29, is accused of assaulting the former X Factor winner and has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Lewis earlier revealed the “horrible shock” she suffered after receiving the blow to the head.

The 24-year-old was forced to cancel a promotional visit to Germany as she recovered from the ordeal.

But she promised fans she would begin rehearsals next week for a forthcoming UK tour, and said she was looking forward to the first concert in London next month.

She was autographing a man’s book when she was punched in the face by the man upon finishing and looking up at him. And now, it’s revealed who this crazed stan is. He is an old reject from “X-Factor” (the show that Leona won and kicked off her career with), The Sun reports.

Cheryl Cole broke down on X Factor as she tearfully conceded that she had failed 16-year-old Lloyd D

Cheryl Cole broke down on X Factor as she tearfully conceded that she had failed 16-year-old Lloyd Daniels and given him the wrong song.

The emotional scenes came as Simon Cowell laid into the Girls Aloud star for giving Lloyd, 16, the Leona Lewis track Bleeding Love to perform for tonight’s diva show.

After giving it his best, Simon told Lloyd his performance fell short of the mark and then squarely placed the blame on Cheryl.

Simon told him: ‘You’re very, very lucky that you are cute and the chicks are going to love you. But once you went to chorus, it’s like a mouse trying to climb a mountain

‘I’m going to place the blame with the girl to the right [Cheryl] – she isn’t working with you properly, or understanding you, you are talented, likeable but not being directed properly.’

Rather than defend her act, an emotional Cheryl cracked following Simon’s straight-talking critique before beckoning Lloyd over to hug her.

She told the Welsh teenager: I’m sorry. I’m gonna take the blame for this.’ She then broke down as she said: ‘I found it really tough this week. It was a diva week. I hope I haven’t let you down.’

The dramatic display came on a night of high drama which saw the three X Factor judges soldier on withouth Louis Walsh, who was attending Stephen Gately’s funeral in Dublin today.

Walsh has been giving his two acts support and advice over the phone this week, but he was not present to defend Miss Frank when Simon branded their rendition of Whitney Houston’s 1991 ballad, All The Man I Need as ‘terrible’.

Simon told the Shaniece Davis, Graziella Affinita and Shar Alexandra that their version was out of tune and lacked originality.

It was left to Cheryl to step in and defend them, who said the girls did a ‘good job’ under the circumstances.

Simon told them: ‘I though it was mainly terrible. When you hear it back you’ll understand. You were out of tune, particularly at the end.’

He added: ‘I think you’re gonna be in real trouble tonight,’ as the dejected girl group retorted by saying they had done their best.

Miss Frank’s Shar Alexandra said afterwards: ‘It has been a tough ride, we’re trying everyday, we’re practising everyday.’

This week saw Whitney Houston mentor the 11 remaining acts in the competition, along with music mogul Clive Davis, 72, the U.S. record producer who discovered Whitney.

Welsh student Lucie Jones opened the show, and was lowered onto to the stage in a perspex chair to sing a rendition of Whitney Huston 1985 hit How Will I Know.

Clad in a short green dress, the 18-year-old cavorted around and flirted with a gang of male dancers.

Cheryl praised her for managing to sing while dancing in high heels and told her: ‘That was a great song to open the show with.
‘But there is a little something not quite connecting at the moment and I don’t know what it is.’

Simon added: ‘At least you made an attempt to be younger. You’re never going to by Whitney Houston, but if Dannii can connect you with the right pop song now I actually think you’re gonna do quite well.’

Responding to Simon’s comment, her mentor Dannii told Lucie that all the divas out there had ’started somewhere’ and ‘been on a journey to be accoladed as a diva’.

She told her: ‘There was a diva in there and you let her out tonight.’

Next up was Olly Murs, one of Simon’s contestants in the Over 25s category.

He took it back to the Sixties with the Ike and Tina Turner track Fool In Love.

Olly swung and crotch-grabbed his way through the performance, backed up by a gaggle of female dancers and received a standing ovation for his efforts.

He set judge Dannii’s temperature rising with his now trademark ‘Olly shuffle’ and Cheryl told him: ‘That was the best performance you’ve done so far. On paper that shouldn’t have worked. A Tina Turner song, but you absolutely smashed it.’

Mentor Simon said: ‘It was fun, it was different, it was original and this is why all the contestants want to be mentored by me.

‘That was really, really good and in a different league.’

Rachel Adedeji bravely took on Beyonce’s 2008 track If I Were A Boy.

Last week she was in the bottom two alongside Kandy Rain, but the Londoner fought back with a powerful rendition of the song.

She started her performance etherised on the floor, before rising to her feet as she launched into the powerful vocal performance.

‘It takes some guts to come out here and sing a Beyonce song. But after coming in the bottom two last week you came out fighting,’ Cheryl told her afterwards.

‘I liked it but I didn’t love it. It was too close to the original. I don’t know what’s happening with you at the moment. Dannii is not bringing your personality out. I feel frustrated to be honest,’ Simon added.

Cheryl’s ‘little North East soldier’ Joe McElderry sang Whitney’s 1988 track Where Do Broken Hearts Go.

Dressed all in black, the 18-year-old performed a ‘note perfect’ rendition of the song, which was even given the thumbs up by Clive Davis who was sat in the audience.

Simon enjoyed it so much that he even began mouthing the words along during the performance.

Afterwards he told Joe: ‘It pains me to say this but that was note perfect. I have to had it to you.

‘The only criticism is that you need to raise your shoulders a bit and learn to perform a bit better… but great great vocal.’

Joe was followed by Danyl Johnson who took on a track very close to Whitney’s heart, her song I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.

In video footage before he took to the stage, Whitney and record producer Davis were seen telling the 27-year-old in rehearsals that he was losing the melody.

Whitney advised him to listen to the song and get the song straight in his head.

He appeared to have done the job and was given a standing ovation by Simon, and a warm round of comments from the judges.

Dannii, who last week was forced to apologise after her bisexual jibe at Danyl, was much more complimentary this week, telling him: ‘I have to say that was flawless.’

Cheryl, who last week accused him of being cocky also told him he had ‘delivered’ while mentor Simon added: ‘It was once again an incredible performance.’

Double Dublin diva twins, John and Edward, managed to lighten the tone following Lloyd’s perfomance with a hilarious version of Britney Spears’s 2000 track Oops I Did It Again.

Complete with Britney headpieces, the boys were wheeled on stage dressed in red PVC suits, in homage to the U.S. star’s red outfit in the video.

At one point, a dance move went comically wrong when Edward accidentally punched John in the face, knocking his microphone out of place.

And it appeared to cheer Cheryl up, who sat giggling through the entire performance.

Afterwards, Dannii told them: ‘It’s a big week for you Louis is not here with you guys. Vocally it’s not right but it’s Ok.’

‘The good news is it’s entertaining, it’s fun and it made Cheryl laugh.’

Cheryl then joked: ‘I must say the act I most look forward seeing every week is John and Edward.

‘You are always entertaining and I want you to stay in this competition a little bit longer, even if it is only to annoy Simon.’

Cheryl’s act Rikki Loney did his version of Respect, the 1967 hit by Aretha Franklin.

But a less than impressed Simon told him: ‘The song was far, far to big for you. You went from a pub singer to a wedding singer. You’re just not connecting at the moment and it’s probably to do with song choice. It’s just not working for me at the moment.’

Cheryl defended him, however, thanking him for taking on the song, despite Whitney and Clive not being that supportive of the choice.

She told him: ‘I think you did a fantastic job.’

Simon’s act Jamie Archer was up next with Christina Aguilera’s 2006 song Hurt and was praised by all three judges.

Simon berated his two side kicks, however, telling them they weren’t being enthusiastic enough, saying: ‘I thought that was absolutely fantastic. Brilliant. Well done.’

Stacey Solomon closed the show, performing the 1941 classic At Last, most recently covered by Beyonce, but also by the likes of Nat King Cole and Etta James.

The Essex girl, 20, was given the thumbs up by mentor Dannii and Cheryl, but Simon told her she looked out of her comfort zone.

But Stacey replied, in humorous style: ‘Sorry I didn’t look comfortable. You can’t please them all.’

Cheryl Cole broke down on The X Factor tonight because of fears that she chose the wrong song for one of her contestants.

Cole, who is mentoring the boys, worried that Lloyd Daniels had been “let down” because she asked him to sing the Leona Lewis track ‘Bleeding Love’.

After Daniels’ performance, Simon Cowell described the track as “too big” for him and added: “I’m going to put the blame with [Cheryl]. She’s not working with you properly, understanding you properly, giving you the right material to survive in the competition.

“I do think you’re talented, you’re likeable, but you’re not being directed properly at the moment.”

Asked for her views on Daniels’ rendition of the song, Cole began to cry and said: “I take full responsibility for the song. I found it really tough this week, it was diva week…”

Daniels got off the stage and gave Cole a hug as she mouthed: “I’m sorry.”

Cowell also comforted the Girls Aloud star, while Daniels said: “Don’t get upset, Cheryl. You’ve done me proud.”

The X Factor results show is on tomorrow at 7.45pm on ITV1.

As this weekend The X Factor finalists are sharing the bill with the legendary Whitney Houston, it

As this weekend The X Factor finalists are sharing the bill with the legendary Whitney Houston, it seemed fitting that tonight’s theme was Divas.

First to perform was Welsh wonder Lucie Jones, who showed a different side to her repertoire, as she sang and danced to Whitney’s upbeat hit, How Will I Know. The 18-year-old has already shown her ability when it comes to singing ballads, tonight she attempted to prove had the whole package, confidently working the stage with her pack of male dancers in tow.

Above the deafening applause Cheryl told Lucie that something still wasn’t connecting properly with her performances. Simon echoed these views but gave Lucie some credit when he said: “I think you did quite well, I was impressed.”

As expected Dannii backed her protégé to the hilt – so, a mixed bag of comments for the first contestant out.

Up next to impress the judges was Essex boy Olly Murs, who clearly loved being the centre of attention for those foxy female dancers. Singing Tina Turner’s Fool In Love, Olly’s performance received surprisingly good reviews.

“I loved it!” squealed Dannii, followed by Cheryl’s admission that Olly had produced his best performance of the competition to date. “You absolutely smashed it!” she told him.

“This was the person we fell in love with!” exclaimed Simon: “Different league.”

Although Louis was missing from the show, Miss Frank’s barnstorming effort tonight will undoubtedly make him very proud to be their mentor. The southern trio’s rendition of All The Man I Need really packed a punch, although the judges weren’t in agreement when it came to delivering their verdicts.

Dannii praised the girls but warned them to “stick together” when performing. Cheryl criticised Simon’s comment from last week when she said: “There are no bookends in this group, you can all sing – it’s a job well done.”

So far so good, but then it was Simon’s turn to rain on the parade, denouncing the trio’s performance as “mainly terrible” and “out of tune”.

Cheryl defended the girls, but Simon’s point had been made.

Trying to dispel the memories of last week’s bottom two sing-off, Rachel Adedeji entertained us with a beautiful and emotionally charged rendition of Beyoncé’s If I Were A Boy.

“That took some guts,” Cheryl told her when she’d finished: “you came out fighting.”

Simon said: “I liked it but I didn’t love it.”

Do boys make good divas? Judging by Joe McElderry’s rendition of the Whitney classic Where Do Broken Hearts Go, it seems they do. The BIG song ended with a BIG finale as Joe brought the roof down in a typical X Factor style.

“You nailed it!” Dannii told him.

Although Simon was pained to say it he told the young South Shielder: “That was note perfect… you’ve got a great future ahead of you.”

“Absolutely beautiful,” was all Cheryl needed to say.

The first half was wrapped up by Danyl Johnson who attempted a brave cover of Whitney Houston’s new song, I Didn’t Know My Own Strength. Singing a song that hardly anyone knows must be seen as a huge risk in a show like The X Factor, but Danyl delivered with a performance filled with style and panache.

Dannii and Simon were full of praise for the teacher with Cheryl exclaiming: “Talk about challenging yourself! You really delivered.”

How would the finalists in the second half fare?

The second half of tonight’s Diva-themed show was kicked-off by the competition’s youngest performer, Lloyd Daniels, singing the Leona Lewis smash, Bleeding Love.

Dannii noticed that Lloyd didn’t look too comfortable up there: “I think there’s more to your voice,” she told him, with Simon agreeing: “You are very lucky you are cute! That song would have worked if it lasted 15 seconds!”

Holding back the tears Cheryl told the Welshman: “I hope I haven’t let you down.”

John and Edward showed plenty of energy, effort, and enthusiasm as they went all Britney on us! The madcap twins wheeled onstage like a set of lost hotel luggage, and then abandoned their arc-shaped trolleys for a typically high-octane performance of Oops I Did It Again.

“Vocally it’s not right but it’s ok!” laughed Dannii.

Simon’s first thought was: “What the bloody hell was that!” his second thought was: “I didn’t like it but I wanted to watch it again!”

Rikki Loney’s had his fair share of rejection over the years, and it was obvious that the words he sung tonight held some resonance for him. Rikki wanted some R.E.S.P.E.C.T and perhaps he’s earned it, for taking such a mammoth song on, if nothing else.

Whilst Cheryl thought Rikki’s performance was “fantastic”, Simon lambasted it, claiming: “The song was far, far too big for you.”

Showing the sensitive side we saw glimpses of at the judges’ houses was 34-year-old Jamie Archer, who got in touch with his inner-diva, serenading us with Christina Aguilera’s angst-ridden, Hurt. The toned-down version of the normally rock ‘n’ roll Jamie drew a raft of praise from the judges.

“You brought a lot of softness to that… well done!” hailed Dannii.

Cheryl agreed it was a “great song choice” and Simon beamed: “That was absolutely fantastic!”

Diva week ended in style thanks to the dulcet tones of Stacey Solomon, who purred her way through the Etta James ditty, At Last. With a mature sounding voice that defies her bibbly-bubbly personality, Dagenham’s favourite daughter delivered yet again with a delightfully assured performance.

Although Simon told her she should just “do her own thing,” Cheryl and Dannii were full of praise.

“You looked like a little popstar,” Cheryl said, followed by Dannii’s assessment that it was a “beautiful performance.”

Cheryl Cole broke down on tonight’s X factor after hearing Lloyd Daniels perform ‘Bleeding Love.’

No, he wasn’t that bad, well he was, but that wasn’t why she wept. Cheryl cried because Simon and Co criticised Lloyd so heavily and blasted her song choice for the young lad.

After Lloyd murdered his Diva song, Simon said:

“You’re very very lucky that you’re cute and the chicks are going to love you. It’s like a mouse trying to climb a mountain. I’m going to put the blame for this on the girl on my right, who’s not working with you properly.”

The normally fiesty Cheryl then started to cry and took full responsibility for the poor song choice. She said she’d found it difficult to choose for her acts this week and as she wept, cute little Lloyd swooped in for a hug.

You know that’s what I like about Cheryl. She admits when she’s wrong and doesn’t try to pass the buck. She’s just won Lloyd a place in next week’s show too. Good move!

The X-Factor winner Leona Lewis was punched in the face by a man while she was signing copies of her autobiography, Dreams, in a London book shop.
