I officially started my journey today! I began my 10-day liquid diet before my gastric bypass surger

I officially started my journey today! I began my 10-day liquid diet before my gastric bypass surgery. But wait, it gets better. I began my 10-day liquid diet on the same day that my family celebrated Christmas! Roast lamb, yeasty/chewy rolls, waldorf salad, and of course, cookies and candies GALORE. Awesome.

I stuck through it though! I had 5-6 glasses of milk, two bowls of broth and a bunch of water. I felt like I could float across the Atlantic. Man, did I retain water. After everyone left, I just could not take it anymore and went to the gym.

The gym is my new cigarette. It’s amazing. I get bored, I go to the gym. I get stressed, I go to the gym. I get hungry, I go to the gym! I can see now how people become addicted. What a surprise, though, coming from me!

I now feel much better, and so proud of myself for sticking through the first day. Tomorrow’s challenge? Doing the liquid diet at work. Also, I hope that the scale reads correctly tomorrow. Today it shot up 5 pounds because I am so damn bloated! What a downer when you’re working this hard.

I really need to work on NOT looking at the scale everyday. What a horrible habit.

Alright so before I start complaining I should preference with the last day or two my nausea hasn

Alright so before I start complaining I should preference with the last day or two my nausea hasn’t been as bad as it has in the past. However I digress. I’m extremely tired all the time. It’s ridiculous. The last two days I have gotten up without bloat or nausea therefore I try to be productive by cleaning the house or exercising and as soon as I’m done I need a nap!

Yesterday I woke up feeling pretty good and decided to workout. I went to my basement where my little yoga workout area is set up (by this I mean rubber matting on the concrete floor and a yoga mat in front of a TV, remember I’m poor, my hubby put this together for me) and popped in my Geri Yoga. I did the full workout (90 mins) and by the endo of it felt really good. Then I went upstairs for breakfast (grits and an orange) and took a shower. After my shower I had to lay down on the bed to rest for about 20 minutes. Uggh! It seems that I have absolutely no energy. Before you say “oh the workout was hard” or anything to that sort let me remind you it is hard but I’m also not running a marathon in my basement. This is just so beyond me. Although I was once a personal trainer I am now not in the best of shape, but normally when I start exercising again I get back into it fairly quickly. Not this time.

Another strange thing that occurred was yesterday after my workout i jumped online to check my email and look at the pregnancy questions on Yahoo Answers. A great site by the way where you can post, answer and ready questions about anything and everything. I like it because you get real answers on subjects by everyday people. Don’t go one there to diagnose a tumor but do go on if you have a question about anything else. When all of a sudden I was sad. About what I couldn’t tell you. Just really sad. Honestly although things are hard for my husband and I financially right now I have nothing to be that sad about. I have a roof over my head, food on the table and although both our jobs aren’t ideal my husband and I have jobs if nothing else. Nonetheless I just sat there wanting to cry for no reason.

Being the hypochondriac that I am I start to worry that I’m not ready to be a mother, that I won’t bond with my child or that something terrible is going to happen. I searched out depression and pregnancy on Yahoo Answers and was relieved to see many other pregnant women feeling the same way. Apparently these hormones that are rushing through our bodies actually do affect us. After just reading that other women were feeling the same depressed feelings made me kinda snap out of it and so far I haven’t been depressed again. However I’m sure it will come back at some point. Besides getting a little sad over nothing I have noticed that I also get sad over very ame things as well. For example when my husband and I were watching the last episode of Monk I started crying. Wow I really am a basket case.

As for keeping my pizzaz I’m trying. But it’s hard when you are pregnant, nausea, tired and bloated. I really wanted to treat myself to a mani/pedi but alas the days of spending money on frivolous things are in the past. I need to just do it myself. I will say my pre-natal vitamins have made my nails *Brilliant*. I’m hoping when I get into the second trimester I will be able to get some of my pizzaz back. No worries though I still do my hair and make-up almost everyday (unless I don’t have to work and I’m not leaving the house). I’m also telling myself that by exercising I’m not only helping the baby but I’m helping the baby blubber I’ll be putting on real soon.

My husband has had a couple of leads on a job or two so I’m keeping my fingers crossed on that front. we would be able to pay our bills off and not live paycheck to paycheck. In the meantime I’ll be saving our pennies, doing my own nails, exercising by old video’s and thinking how lucky I am to have a healthy baby in my belly and a great husband.

So I’ve been making an effort to eat better lately in the hopes that being healthier will make me a happier person and help me deal with mood swings, near panic-attacks, and depressive slump. That all went out the window this afternoon.

My roommate, our friends and I all went out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant and being the pig that I am, ate way too many chips and ordered too much food. Then we went to midnight breakfast that our school sponsors during finals week and ate again. I feel like my organs are going to explode. I also feel fat and bloated and totally unattractive. Which is really the exact opposite of what I’ve been trying to accomplish lately.

Is it just me or are toothpaste manufacturers really taking the piss? So we all now have porous teet

Is it just me or are toothpaste manufacturers really taking the piss? So we all now have porous teeth, which we can plug with this new toothpaste that acts a barrier against hot and cold. If your teeth hurt that much – go to the fucking dentist, instead of living with the pain and misery associated by the general public with seeing a glass of ice cold water. Shit, I know in some countries they swear by cleaning your teeth with ash from the cooking fire and use chewed, softened sticks as brushes. They’re teeth look mighty fine and WHITE to me. They don’t spend a penny on toothpaste or whitening their teeth. Lucky fuckers. But “eeeew, that’s disgusting, ash?!?” I hear you say “I ain’t putting that crap in my mouth!”, ok, well put those chemicals, that I am not too proud to admit I (and therefore probably you) know very little about, in your gob instead! Is there no lengths people will not go to in order to sell you more of their ‘new and improved’ product. If it is new and improved then why are you still selling me the less new and less improved stuff you had before?

The other one is sluggishness, especially in women. Do you feel sluggish? Bloated? Fucking hell if women felt as bloated as these adverts purport then I should be avoiding a barrage of loads of gas bag women bouncing down the road at me. Like a real life game of Rollerball. Of course you feel sluggish, man or woman, because the world expects so much of you. Working long hours for little reward in most cases, you’re not sluggish your tired and run down. If the sluggishness and bloatedness adverts carry on with the scare mongering about your teeth, they’ll be telling us that if we do not do anything about people will be exploding in McDonalds as they chow down a high red meat content meal a la Mr. Creosote in Monty Python’s Meaning of Life…

Hi all!

So I ended up oversleeping again, which is not anything new. I tend to oversleep during my days off as I generally lose one night’s sleep every time I work a stretch of shifts. However, an hour extra here and there is tolerable. An extra 4 hours in one night? Not so much.

I woke up feeling awful and bloated. Perhaps it was the pizza? I generally have to be careful with any starchy food I eat–I’m usually only able to tolerate starches in smaller quantities or I become bloated and very drowsy. It happened again yesterday–I fell asleep on the couch within an hour of eating dinner. I’m not sure why it happens, though it generally only happens with wheat based foods. I’m usually okay with fruits, refined sugar, dairy and starchy vegetables.

Am I the only one this happens to? Have you ever become sleepy and/or bloated after a starch heavy meal?

Anyhow, I started off the day with a workout at the gym. I did 33 minutes on the elliptical, drank almost 1 litre of water and certainly didn’t feel any better once I was done.

But I definitely felt better after this:

I had a large coffee with 2 milk–that is equivalent to almost 1/3 C of 2% milk. Shortly after, I had a clementine:

And got started on lunch. My plan was to throw every single vegetable I could into my salad. I used:

mixed greens + baby arugula

campari tomatoes

1/2 avocado

grated carrot

chopped cremini mushrooms

red onion

red bell pepper

2 hard boiled eggs, chopped

I enjoyed this with about 4 melba toasts and of course tossed it in balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It was wonderfully filling

I’m still pretty full and haven’t yet decided what’s for dinner. Thinking about braising some fennel….

See you later!

NICE is a bloated quango which interferes in which medicines we may or may not be permitted t

NICE is a bloated quango which interferes in which medicines we may or may not be permitted to use. Apart from providing excessive incomes and gold plated pensions to its over sized staff, the purpose of this body was supposed to improve health care by regulating the introduction of new treatments and ending a ‘postcode lottery’ of availability. For those who may not know, quango means quasi-autonomous non-government organisation. That in turn means a mysteriously appointed, completely unaccountable bunch of politicians cronies who interfere in the lives of everybody.

What is often attacked and derided as a ‘postcode lottery’ is actually the healthy variation that results from local services being provided appropriately to meet local needs. Crofters in the Hebrides do not have the same health issues or requirements as coke snorting, champagne swillers in Knightsbridge. While ordinary people can recognise that, the nanny loving broadcast media and their mates in government cannot.

It is now reported that a sub committee this nasty NICE bureaucracy has done some work at the request of the Department of Health (HaHa – Department of Sickness Management and Drug Administration wouldn’t have quite the same ring would it?) and come up with the recommendation that Council staff and Health & Safety inspectors should be given the right to enter every parent’s home to check if you have stair gates, hot water temperature restrictors, window locks and a whole load of other stuff. Many of these things could be useful and sensible, but all of them are things to be decided by adults dealing with the needs and priorities of their lives. We all know what the result of the snooping would be. Apart from the terrible invasion of privacy, branding people with different approaches to the bureaucrats as child harming criminals and the further infantilisation of every citizen there would be prosecution of poor parents so that their difficult lives would be made impossible. The next thing would be to take some of these children into institutional care where they would be exposed to abuse and condemned to a future in which they would have a far greater likelihood of becoming criminals or abusers in adult life.

If all this was not bad enough, NICE also recommends a new government database to allow GPs, midwives and other officials visiting homes to log health and safety concerns they spot. These people would be asked to provide home safety advice and where necessary conduct a home risk assessment.

“If possible they should supply and install home safety equipment”

This revolting, Orwellian garbage has been put out to consultation with the intention of introducing it next year. We must tell the government clearly and quickly to scrap this stupid idea now. My own children are long grown up, but if any of these busybodies want to come and check on my grandchildren or great grandchildren in my home I can only suggest that they preserve their own safety by not exposing themselves to the risks they would face by coming here.

Doctors, midwives, etc. are well regarded for their professional skills and services. I wonder how people would feel about them if they are turned into Stasi style state snoopers?

The queasiness and inability to face the thought of many foods has really got a lot worse over the last few days. This is worse than I remember it with Lilly – although I suppose last time I didn’t have a lively little toddler to look after and I got more sleep and could take things slower I suppose!

Yesterday it reached a peak. Luckily, it was a Sunday and Tony was here because I was just feeling shattered and so queasy. Everytime I ate, it made me feel worse. Eventually, when Lilly went to bed at 6pm (she hadn’t had her usual nap, because the noise of the wind outside scared her, so she went to bed a little earlier) I went to bed too, and slept for a couple of hours. Bliss. I felt much better when I woke up, but still a bit icky.

For the last few days I’ve also felt ill at the thought of tea and coffee – something which never happened last time. I know it must be so obvious in work when I’m turning down teas and coffees – usually I’m a caffeine monster – but I don’t really care if people work out what the reason might be – the thought of a cup of coffee makes me feel really sick!

Today I’m feeling a bit better though, so I’m hoping i’ve turned a corner. I even had a sip of tea this afternoon, without ill effect! I’ve got a constant nausea underneath everything, but at lunchtime I managed to go out and find a sandwich that I actually liked the look of and fancied to eat, and managed to eat it without feeling queasy or bloated. So that was a small victory!

I think the morning sickness has actually helped make things seem a bit more real. I probably do believe I’m pregnant now (finally!!) so it has had some useful effect.

We might not have the early scan now (i’m a ditherer, i know…) as we are on holiday in Center Parcs next week and then i’ll be nearly nine weeks by the time we’re back, so not all that long to wait until the 12 week scan which is on December 2. So we’re trying to be a bit patient and resist temptation!

Oh, and my personal prediction about this baby – a boy! Based on a strong hunch I had on the day of ovulation and still have today. Only time will tell!

Well, here we are – seven weeks.

Last time I got to this stage I felt like it was a really significant milestone – seven weeks pregnant – it felt like loads!

This time it doesn’t feel like that – I still feel like it’s really early days. 12 weeks seems miles away. I think this time I feel a lot more anxious about things, I feel more worried about the things which can go wrong – don’t know why that is but I do. I think maybe I have the pregnancy books that bit earlier and looking at the pictures in The Pregnancy Bible (which I think is a great book, by the way) contributes a bit – the baby at this stage is just so tiny and only just starting to look recognisable as a human being – it’s less than an inch long!

Last time I was pregnant I never for one minute doubted that I would have a baby, from the second I saw the line on the pregnancy test. The whole pregnancy was just excitement and anticipation and impatience. This time, even though I now know what its like to have a successful pregnancy and what it is to have a baby and look after one, it all feels even more unreal and like somehow it won’t really happen. I can’t actually believe or imagine me this time next year, with a toddler of nearly three and a baby of four months. It seems like a mad dream, totally hypothetical!

And yet, hopefully, that is exactly what is going to happen!!

T and I have talked about going for an early scan, which I think might be able to kick-start my excitement and unswerving belief that we really are doing all this again. The place where we had our 3d scan with Lilly, Take A Peek in St Helens, does a reassurance scan for £65. So we may go before or after our trip to Center Parcs, which is in a week and a half. Or, we may be brave and hold out until 12 weeks.

Symptoms wise I’ve been feeling similar to how I felt at this stage with Lilly. All morning I feel slightly queasy and need to constantly eat to keep that feeling at bay. The problem is, I’m fussy with what I can and can’t face the thought of eating. And when I do eat, I feel so full!

Today for lunch I had some pea and ham soup and a bread roll. I couldn’t eat it all because I started to feel like I’d eaten six Christmas dinners. I’ve felt hugely bloated all day – like my tummy is ready to pop!!

I think my rate of tummy expansion has slowed down a little – thank goodness - so maybe I will make it to 12 weeks without it being massively obvious to everyone!

Oh, and I had my first pregnancy related dream last night. I dreamt I was 10 days overdue and I’d only just realised! And I was really annoyed because I hadn’t started on the raspberry leaf tea yet!

Hey Movers, hope your Monday will be fun and that you’ll have time to do a bit of moving about! Read more about Move-It Monday here

You Are What You Eat became a platitude made famous by Gillian McKeith, but happens to be true. Fill yourself with junk food or drink too much alcohol and you will feel tired, bloated and sluggish. Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and you will feel much more alert and full of increased vitality and vigour. On Gillian McKeith’s website she has an ‘eat in abundance’ list, recipes and nutrition plans.

Eating a balanced diet can make a big difference to your health and vitality. Your body needs a diet that consists of about 50% carbohydrates, 30% fat, 15% protein and plenty of fibre, vitamins, minerals and water.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates provide the body’s basic source of energy. Simple carbohydrates, such as sugars, give instant energy but have no nutritional value. Complex carbohydrates found in bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, cereals and pulses are better for you because they are slow-releasing. The foods that contain complex carbohydrates also contain fibre, minerals and essential vitamins.

Fats

These are essential for growth and healthy digestion, but too much fat can make you overweight and cause serious health problems. Foods containing high amounts of fat and protein, such as milk, cheese, cakes, chocolate and bacon are best eaten in small quantities.

Protein

The body needs a daily supply of protein for cell growth, maintenance and repair. Most Westerners get much more protein than they need, which usually becomes converted into fat. Pulses, rice and nuts are high in fibre, carbohydrate and protein and provide essential bulk for the diet.

Fibre

Dietary fibre, found in nuts, pulses, rice, cereals and wholegrains prevents constipation, lowers blood cholesterol and helps protect against bowel disorders and diseases.

Vitamins and Minerals

Although only needed in small amounts, vitamins and minerals are essential for maintaining good health.

Foods for relaxation

Foods that contain calcium, magnesium and vitamin B6 are known to have a tranquilising effect. Green leafy vegetables, milk and dairy products, apricots, bananas, nuts and yeast extract are just some of the foods that will help you feel calmer. Meat, milk and eggs contain tryptophan, an essential amino acid that turns into the important brain chemical serotonin, which enhances mood and regulates sleep.

What to eat

The healthiest diet is one that is high in fruit, vegetables, grains and pulses and low in animal and dairy products. Nutritional guidelines are based on the traditional eating habits of people who live around the Mediterranean, where there is a history of long life expectancy and low rates of heart disease.

Complex carbohydrates should form half your daily diet

Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day

Try to consume low-fat dairy foods

Eat oily fish at least once a week

Limit consumption of red meat and cheeses

Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods

Reduce your salt intake

Limit your sugar intake

Eat fresh foods whenever possible and cut back on processed foods

Drink alcohol in moderation, and try to have at least two alcohol-free days a week

Drink enough fluids to keep your urine pale – at least two litres of water a day to flush out toxins. A glass of water every couple of hours will make you feel much more alert.

Limit your consumption of tea, coffee, fizzy drinks and chocolate

Hope you all enjoy a good week and happy healthy cooking! : )

yuck.

i mean, i didn’t go over my alloted cal after that last time, but i got too close to that maximum number… much closer than i like and than i usually get to it.

but today i’m at 1080… and if we do any lifting at EMT that can go down. so i’m feeling alright about that.

except tomorrow my big-p is supposed to come which means i’m going to be at my hungriest, and how am i supposed to stay under my limit if i hardly could when i wasn’t having strange cravings? that makes me nervous.

It seems I’ve been driving this whole Fall away lately. Maybe not all of it I suppose …Old Man Winter has had his greedy hand in things as well, but with the recent trip to SK, normal driving for The Man and then this weekends venture out to Calgary, I think I need some time away from man’s best four-wheeled friend.

Calgary was fun though …Despite The Blindness did a little Friday night thing (I can’t emphasize the word little enough though, unfortunately) and the Wafer Thin Mints hosted another Ship and Anchor Saturday afternoon. I also got to visit with Aunty J and cousin Kristen (she’s an environmental planner …which I recently discovered in both vocation and meaning) …so that was all good. Kristen’s couch wasn’t too bad either, and her cat Stella gets my vote for the Best In Not Being A Bad Kitty category at the upcoming Felinies this November. I ate like crap again as well, so I’m going to have to smarten up for a while. Of course my Thanksgiving Part II comes up this Monday – so maybe I’ll wait till after then.

That’s it I guess.
Did I mention I feel bloated and it’s hard to breathe?

I think that all females have been there at least once in their lives. Those few, horrible days that can only come along with your period. Certainly, not all days are like this when you are on your dot – just a few of them are.

You feel all achy, bloated, and sore. Sounds kind of like a commercial, doesn’t it? Days like that are one of the times when your just want to say in your pajamas and stay in bed. Or, perhaps, stay in your pajamas and curl up on the sofa. But, almost always, you have to go out there and face the world in some way or another. School, work, dates, dentist appointments – something has to draw you out of the house and into the world. Jeans to slacks to formal skirt – no matter what clothes you put on, it seems like everything is just going to press against your midsection and cause some sort of discomfort.

What if I was to say that there is a way to make days like this a little easier, and didn’t involve going to the store for PMS relief medicine?

Instead of going over to the medicine counter, make your way over to the maternity section and check out the trousers and skirts. The top 5″ to 9″ are made out of a stretchy, soft material. Because maternity clothes are designed for mothers, the clothes are softer and more gentle around the tummy. You can see what I mean by looking at the skirts and trousers on Amazon.com and Walmart.com.

As odd as it sounds, try it. Go out and buy yourself a nice maternity work skirt and wear it with a nice shirt that will cover the stretch part of it the next time you have a really bad PMS day. I’m certain that physically you’ll feel more comfortable then if you were wearing your usual clothes.

Brightest Blessings,

i’m a bit less bloated, but still bloated. i think it’s because this week i’ve been a tad sleep deprived, and therefore, lacking in my usual willpower.

conclusion? i ate too much.

grrr.

i mean, i haven’t quite binged (though i’ve been SOOO tempted to on freshly-made rice crispy treats…) but 1100 and 1200 is not me. and my stomach has obviously been quite influenced. in fact, my stomach is always quick to change.

example: in the morning after not eating too much the day before, it may be flat, the ribs semi-apparent. looks good. then i eat breakfast… maybe just a luna bar. what happens to my stomach? the gut bumps out and any tight shirt is unacceptable.

this is why i never wear skin-tight tops.

but anyway, it’s weird. i think that my stomach likes to rebel against me.

Well, I did test as planned this morning and… POSITIVE!

I got up at the shocking hour of 4.30am (about an hour ago) to do the test with T before he left for work ‘just in case’ it was good news.

At first, on the test window of the stick it looked like a line straight away, but when I compared it to the box i realised the line was across the window, not down like it should have been so I thought that was it.

But then, as I stared at it, willing a line to appear, the faintest hint of a vertical line started to appear like magic… ohmygoodness!

I left it a minute or so until I could be sure I wasn’t imagining things… then took it through to T, who was still in the shower, with a big smile on my face. He said “that’s a definite line!” and then gave me a very wet hug and kiss! We went downstairs and had a celebratory cuppa before he went off to work, now I’m sitting in bed with my laptop taking it all in.

According to the wonderful www.fertilityfriend.com my due date (going from ovulation) is 17 June 2010, a few week’s after T’s 30th birthday and just before our 6th wedding anniversary.

I’ve got no symptoms to report really, just the ones that lead me to think we might have been lucky earlier on in my cycle. Somehow, the day after ovulation, I just felt pregnant. I was bloated and a bit crampy and I just had a feeling. I also had a vision of a baby boy – so we’ll have to wait and see whether that comes true or not!

Aside from that, i’ve had days when i’ve been particularly hungry, and I had a really lightheaded and dizzy spell on CD20, which was 4dpo. Last time with Lilly, I remember having really sore boobs by this stage, but that hasn’t happened this time… at best there is sometimes a dull ache which is almost inperceptible… I haven’t been able to decide whether I was largely imagining things at times.

I suppose the pink tinged cm on CD 27 – 11 dpo – must have been implantation. I had hoped that might be the case, but by yesterday I was just so nervous about doing the test!

So there we are, doing it all again. Wow.

Right, better get up and have my shower before my darling little Lil wakes up. She is going to make a lovely big sister!

today, i felt so fat… especially in the stomach area, and a bit in my calves. then i realized that that’s because i was/ am fat. i’m bloated!

my stomach is sticking out to mercury (especially by my rib cage) and it’s not like i ate a lot yesterday or today.

and i’m not getting my big-p either… i have 2 weeks left until that.

so, what’s going on? i really don’t need another mystery in my life right now…

I haven’t been able to post in a while. I’ve been pretty busy but lets see if I can catch up. The we

I haven’t been able to post in a while. I’ve been pretty busy but lets see if I can catch up.

The weekend was a little tough. Although I had my mom in law and everything was great, physically I was in pain. I think that my ovaries were working triple time this weekend.

Man oh man was I sore. Multiple times I had to sit down for a while because of how much pressure I was feeling. The “strange” thing is that I drank the most amount of water during the weekend, so I’m not sure why I was so uncomfortable.

Tom kept telling me that at the end it’s all worth it. I’m sure it is. I know it is, but I have the right to complain a little. After all I’m the one getting daily shots and feeling the pain, right?

My mother in law got to watch me inject myself for the first time. Since she works in the medical field it didn’t really bother her as much as it did my mom and brother.

I think that we do have pretty high hopes for this cycle and I’m hoping that we won’t crash if it doesn’t work out. You never know how things will turn out with infertility treatments, it’s all very unpredictable.

Today is the day of my follow up ultrasound. I’m still feeling pretty sore and bloated. I think that my belly looks huge already. It’s not too bad though. I guess I’ve gotten used to the feeling.

I’ve noticed that I’ve started to have some *CM discharge already and based on what I’ve read, that is a good thing.

It’s unfortunate that Tom won’t be able to accompany me to my ultrasound today but I’m hoping that everything will be ok. I’m praying for some good news. I just keep telling myself “Grow follies, grow!”

I’m also supposed to have my *trigger shot delivered today. I’m looking forward to that. I want to be ready in case we have to trigger today or tomorrow.

Can u tell that I’m anxious and nervous? I’m babbling all over the place.

I guess this is it for now. Hopefully I’ll have some good news to post once I get back from my doctor’s appointment.

Wish me luck!

Abbreviations:

*CM = Cervical Mucus

*Trigger shot = shot of hormone that makes your body ovulate
