The computers were super slow starting up but eventually all except the ones with missing mice got going. I cleaned out the old lost and found items and the desk area. I put the basket for Susan B. in a big drawer in the desk that I think we could designate for her use. – KC

I couldn’t find the Wednesday Rapid City Journal when I arrived.  Kristine had already left when I discovered that it was missing.  I’ll try to remember to ask her if it was in the drop when she arrived and call the RCJ if it was not.  I cleaned out the RCJ back issues so that only one week was left.  Last Thursday’s paper is missing as well.

Something has happened to this blog.  We had a list of tags that had been used, and now there is only one – “mail box.”  And in the past there was a search box on the blog’s home page, and now that is gone.  Were these things changed for a reason?  If not, may we try to restore them?  I found a list of all the tags we have used, but it says that there are no posts that they are attached to???

The reason I was trying to search the blog is that I was trying to find the school tech support email address, so that I could report the missing mouse balls (and put the email address in our online GB procedure manual). I finallly found the email when I was reading past posts (help@rcas.org – one would think I could remember that but apparently my memory banks are full…).  I did update the procedure manual that is on the desktop at this computer, but I could not get the Sharepoint RCPL-N procedures updates because it would not allow me to edit.  And I did send a request for new mouse balls or mice to the help desk.  – TjS Thanks, Theresa, for sending in the request. Hopefully we’ll get new laser mice since those balls get stolen.

Could someone please edit the procedures for RCPLN in Sharepoint to match what Theresa changed on the desktop? I’m not sure why it would let her edit, but I know that Firefox brings up all documents as Read Only. slb I updated it – today I could edit. 6-24-09 tjs

There is something weird going on and I’m trying to figure it out, so if you are having difficulties with Ron’s Rants, please let me know by posting a comment here. Watch your language, though, or you’ll be filtered and I won’t see it!

Of course, if you have problems accessing this post then we’re screwed.

Note to WordPress bloggers – I do know about the stats re-working for people who can’t calculate their own time zone from the UTC time WP normally uses, but this is different. I’m losing hits from my stats and they’re staying lost (contrary to what WP says – that my data is safe), so I’m trying to establish whether readers are having problems. Something is FUBAR!

Apologies to all those having trouble accessing my blog over the last few hours – WordPress have had some difficulties, which are being fixed but, as I type this, are still rumbling on.

I think I need to have a re-think in the new year. I’d like a web presence that allows me to string together my linking, Twittering and work for Journalism.co.uk.

I’d like the facility to blog occasional posts but not on a regular basis. I think I’ll be making the move to WordPress.org and having a play…

But not now. Now, I’m switching off the laptop and having a screen break for a week. Can’t wait…

Hi All – this is my second attempt at a blog. Somehow when I was applying a theme to my other one to make it look more professional – it “disappeared”! So – here I am… starting all over again! Wish me luck!

to see what it looks like.  It’s probably my fault, because,

you see, I’m stupid.  Just a few more lines should complete

my experiment.  One question: if it rains cats and dogs,

what does it snow?

I want to push my Delicious feeds through to the site  but trouble fixing it up to be tailored (so the blog doesn’t get all my shared stuff – there’s way too much) … hopefully will get it sorted soon. It may be a case of doing it half manually… Tips appreciated.

IM NOT DELETING ANYMORE!

My goal for the weekend, as far as the blog was concerned, was to revamp it a bit. Freshen it up. Make it prettier than it was before.

I should not dabble in such things. Granted, the vast majority of regular readers are, most likely, reading from a reader of some sort. But, the aesthete in me doesn’t give a crap, really. I like things pretty, and have no issues announcing that to the skies. Heck, that’s part of the whole steampunk aesthetic, isn’t it? Pretty and functional.

So I shouldn’t be allowed to mess with CSS. As a result, what is current up here is not, let’s say, particularly unique, nor is it reflective of the look I was going for. Sure, I wanted something more simple, but this is a bit too stripped down for my particular tastes. This present look is a result of at least four hours of tinkering, screaming, and muttering. Suffice it to say, my forte is not in design. It seems every time I find a design I like, it lacks some fundamental component that I need in the end. So I trash it, and go elsewhere.

I’ll figure something out. It’s almost 10pm, and I’ve got work tomorrow. So I can’t spend much more time on this… ah well.

Having something of you own definitely costs you a penny more!

I moved over my WordPress blog to a self hosted domain about a month back. It wasn’t much of a problem to start out with. But of late the loose threads are soon popping up!  Server down time, FTP issues, Database issues , linking issues to name a few.

After hooking to bland white themes for quite some time I thought I’d transition to a few dark themes. Wanted to use Red but then I realised I alone wouldn’t be reading  the posts on this blog. So settled for Black! Scouted for a couple of themes for my blog and baselanded on the elegant DF Theme. To relate it to my blog, I modified my site’s theme to black as well. All looked rosy(ROSY? ) on my Desktop with Firefox.  They blended well in IE too. Safari was never an issue. It only made the site look Royal! Tweaked the font size et al and finally it was all set up.

About two weeks later, people soon started dropping their comments! The color ain’t jelling! , Where’s the text? , Change the font! . Fools! Don’t they have a color sense? One more week passed and still the same comments. Nut Cases! Give them some aesthetic senses!

I never understood their suggestion…till today! I happened to check my site and blog on a different system , on a different browser with different settings at a different place ( not on my desktop at home) . And I realise how bad a testing I’d done when setting up my site. All I could see was BLACK. The font wasn’t visible, the contrast was too bad, the voting widget was all jacked up and , the comments tag was a bit too confusing , people were responding to one post instead of another, the tags were being misplaced. In a gist, The whole site was in a mess and it still is! What a jerk I was, to set my LCD monitors brightness and Contrast settings to the max and test the display! Sigh!

Folks! Really sorry for having neglected your suggestions!

I’m currently having very limited access to internet and my company’s Internet policies prohibits me from accessing login to my site! It’s a pity , this site and blog is to remain in a sad state of affairs as long as I’m in the Pune campus . That ideally translates to another month or till I manage to get an accomodation somewhere in the City!

So till I manage to set things right, I’m just hoping your monitor’s display settings are set to make this site/blog readable. Too much of an expectation, but still that’s the best I can ask for!

And thanks a ton for your comments. Lest I would still be basking in twilights glory!

Tradgedy.

I was just cleaning up my first blog, “Good Morning, Cambodia!” and then I saved my changes and then everything was going great and then I scrolled down my website only to find the whole thing had disappeared. I’m shattered, destroyed, in a state of complete confusion. All that remains is the title. How did that happen? What did I do wrong? Why is fate so cruel to me? This is so disheartening…

Don’t ask me to rewite it. I just can’t do it. Death is a permanent thing and I’m not one to play God.
