Here is “Bubblegum Abstract”, another new wild abstract fresh from my studio today. This is one of the many small pieces I’ve been painting to a)have fun and b)free myself for the larger pieces soon to come. It looked to me like someone had popped a big pink bubblegum bubble and it stuck to my canvas. Here are a couple of close-ups:

I had fun doing this new series. It should be called the “Red Series”, because I can’t seem to get enough red into my paintings. Though I love it, red is hard to photograph. I adjust the photos in iPhoto, which helps some. My pinks are good in these photos; on my monitor it’s pretty accurate. Still, I’m having trouble photographing other red paintings without the red blaring out of the picture. Anyone have a bit of advice on this one?

Speaking of seeing red, I sent a letter today to a gentleman named Scott Mulrooney, who is in charge of Customer Love at the Bloggers Choice Awards. It came to my attention earlier this year, from Diane Clancy, that the Blogger’s Choice Awards do not have an Art category. Seeking to enlighten them, I first addressed the subject on January 10 of this year. Here is what I wrote:

Hello,
I’m an artist and blogger, and would like to suggest a new category for your awards, “Art”. This is different from “hobby” in that there are many art bloggers out there, quite a community, and besides making and posting art, they are marketing, promoting, sharing information. In other words, they are professionals. I feel your awards will be missing something if you overlook the artists who blog.

Thank you,
Kris Cahill

I received this reply from Mr. Mulrooney the same day:

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out to us with a blog category suggestion. Art is a good one! I’m not sure when there will be an update to the categories, and we may just keep the ones we have for 2008. However, if we do have any updates, we’ve been keeping all suggestions handy so we’ll have them handy when we’re ready to consider new ones.

Thanks again for your interest in BCA’s. Maybe there’s a similar category that your blog will fit for now?

Happy Voting!

Thanks,

Due to my busy schedule, I let this first letter go unanswered. However, I came across it again today while going through email. I felt inspired to respond again. Here is my response:

Hi Scott,

I understand it’s too late for this year, but would you consider adding ART as a category for next year’s awards? I cannot believe it doesn’t exist now. Think of the opportunities you and others have to become educated about who is out there blogging. Artists have amazing, creative, informative, colorful blogs which DO NOT fit into the Hobby category. That is actually kind of an insult. I understand why photography is a category, and I love the photography blogs I visit; I just don’t get how art has been overlooked.

Artists write about real things, communicate, teach, promote, reach out to others. I would love to see this category exist, obviously, and I am going to get my fellow art bloggers to write to you too. My art blog, which I just began in earnest last October, and just moved to WordPress a week ago, is getting close to 100 hits a day. HELLO!

Thank you,
Kris Cahill

http://kriscahill.wordpress.com

Now, I don’t want to disappoint Mr. Scott Mulrooney, so would you be so kind as to write to him at Customer Love at Bloggers Choice, and let him know how you feel about this? Thank you. It looks to me like Bloggers Choice needs a bit of lobbying sent in their direction to make this change. Hey, if it works for the NRA and the Pharmaceutical Industry, it can work for artists too. By the way, you can, if you wish, vote for Diane Clancy in the four categories I nominated her for at Bloggers Choice. Go to her blog for direct links to vote.

Here’s Scott’s email: scottm@bloggerschoiceawards.com

Sometimes I just want to rouse a little rabble. Ah, it does a body good. Have a fantastic weekend!

I am already on page 3 out of over 102 pages and it would mean a lot of exposure if I could be on pages 1 or 2. Voting takes about 20 seconds and is free. All you need to do is care about the future of this blog. And if you ask your friends to vote too, I would really, really appreciate it. (Heck, while you’re at it, get them to subscribe as well.)

If we bumrush the charts right now, I am hoping that early push will provide the momentum for later down the line. You are the key to that! If you find anything on this blog useful or insightful, please show your love by voting today.
