For the first time in Sri Lanka, tamil bloggers from all part of the country met in a common place to share their view thoughts and ideas. Nearly 80 bloggers who write in tamil gathered at “Colombo Tamil sangam” in order to make the event a success. It is important to mention that bloggers from Jaffna,Mannar and Batticalo also participated the event with a great interest.

According to my knowledge, this is the first time in Sri Lanka a large no of bloggers officially met in a place. The event was initiated by some of the famous tamil bloggers namely A.R.V.Loshan,Vanthiyaththevan,Bullet and Aathirai. The intention of this event is to build a close relationship and network within the tamil bloggers community of this nation.

The event started with a grand note by celebrating the 10th year anniversary of bloggers.com which was an accidental match on that day (23rd August). Then all the bloggers introduced them self in brief. Some of the bloggers made their speeches on key topics such as “Bloggers and law”, Usage of portals for bloggers”, “How to make your blog popular” and “Experience as a blogger”. Finally the bloggers meeting end up with a discussion forum and Q & A session where valuable discussion were made regarding technical and practical issues on writing blogs. The event was a great success and meeting dissolved with an intention to meet on another day.

One of my blog readers, who like me also answer to the name of Mohit, while commenting on my page

One of my blog readers, who like me also answer to the name of Mohit, while commenting on my page ‘I,Me, Myself’, informed me about this blogger meet that is going to take place in Pune.

This bloggers meet is actually blogging unconference. A blogging unconference is a an event where a relevant audience comes together to talk discuss on all possible subjects related to blogging. So bloggers who take part in this meet will be able to discuss about their common passion i.e. BLOGGING. They will also be able to discuss about the problems that they are constantly facing while blogging. Sounds really exciting, isn’t it? Well for those who fear it will be boring classroom like experience, well don’t worry coz its rather a interactive session where people will interact and will also help in making the blogging experience for the rookies more pleasurable.

P.S.: – I wanted to attend this meet as I found this meet interesting and was excited to attend it but due to my prior commitments (read my classes) I couldn’t attend it. So I decided to spread the word.

For more details on this meet visit this site http://blogcamppune.eventbrite.com/

Thanks Mohit for informing me about this event. I would like if you inform me even next time about this event. If possible I would definitely attend this event next time.

Actually this is a part of my Summer Vacation series but as it needed a special mention I didn’t title the post as Part 2.

7th June 2009 :- Arrived in Pune and after a lot of hotel search, checked into one. It had wonderful surroundings..peaceful and green. And the hotel rooms were good too.

Sudarshan or Suda’s blog was one of the first few blogs I started reading when I made my debut in blogosphere. He was also one of the persons who motivated me to move to WordPress from Blogger. In fact I had moved to WordPress on this very day one year ago. Over this past year Suda and I have become close friends. It was essential for my survival that I meet him if I was ever in Pune. So on 7th evening I had my first ever blogger’s meet at KFC at Gold Adlabs multiplex in Kalyani Nagar Pune.

It didn’t feel like I was meeting a stranger. Suda made the sweet gesture of greeting me with my favorite flower ( I don’t know its name..the one with long stem and petals) and that too of pink color. The moment he laid eyes on my camera, he started fiddling with it. I found him to be shy and not that much talkative as he is on phone. And he said I sounded better on phone. Grrrr Overall a nice bloggers meet. After all he got a chance of meeting a world famous blogger!:D This is me and Suda.

Now for the special day part.

Today is my Birthday

Go on and wish me!! I love getting birthday wishes and presents too

This is me over the years :-

Gifts & Prizes are no more special to anyone. In India, Marketers have started misusing Social

Gifts & Prizes are no more special to anyone. In India, Marketers have started misusing Social Media for their own benefits. I keep coming across many new blogger contests, where they have started giving prizes for tweeting and writing about their brand in their blogs. Well I would like to refer the recent one which I just came across organized by Indiblogger.in and Peppysophia.com. The way they have communicated about the blogger contest is truly commercial and intentional. Hmmmmm…. Why are marketers trying to spoil and control this medium.

Why can’t marketers leave it to a blogger to write whatever he or she feels about. Why are marketers making it more obligatory to write positive about them.

Prizes, Money and expensive gifts do spoil people’s mind and their skills. But one has to understand and make their own decision, whether to support these acts or discourage these acts. Believe me, being in a controlled messaging world, I feel social media is a place where one can express his or her views openly without any hassles.

I recently came across few blogger communities who are equally supporting these acts. Please guys.. why can’t we keep these communities clean and not handover ourselves to these selfish motives.

Certainly, there are other marketers who understand the value of Blogs and other Social Media Platforms, who see that they don’t loose out the essence of this platform. I would term Social Media as People’s Media.

So let people decide what is wrong and what is right and not try to influence them with Gifts & Prizes. Of course, there can be gratifications, but there should not be any motive behind it.

Needless to say, this shows that how valuable our comments and our suggestions are. They do get considered, which certainly acts as Word of Mouth (WOM) publicity. There can be few aspects to look at it :

Wants to share information about their brand

Wants to distribute information across multiple channels

Wants to conduct a survey through Bloggers

Wants people to review their product

Wants to build direct relationship with the consumers

Wants to observe or keep a close eye on how a product is performing

Wants to be more transparent about their functionality and their operations

Considering the fact that online users are far more powerful than the people behind using traditional news items such as Publications and electronic media, so caring about online users is justified

Only these are possibilities due to why one wants to invite Bloggers or run a social Media campaign or there can be some detailed reasons from the above.

All others could end up tampering an individual’s opinion and views. So friends, lets not get influenced with these worthless Gifts and Prizes which influences us to tweak our thoughts and opinions.

Corn And Cheese

This will be a short one. I just got back this morning from Chennai, after spending 3 days of the long weekend there. These are some of the highlights:

My belt broke on my way to the bus stand, Thursday night. My pant was a bit too loose and I spent the journey in mortal fear of being arrested for indecent exposure.

The bus, when I finally boarded it, was a bit too stuffy, because of a lack of an air-conditioner. I sweated my way to a fitful sleep.

On reaching Chennai, I had 10 cigarettes and no matches to light them with.

I had 11 meetings throughout the long weekend and still did not get my jobs done.

I realized that ‘Darjeeling Tea’ in five-star hotels is actually hot, tea-flavored water. And it costs way too much!

Drank white wine in water glasses and drank water in wine glasses.

I’m not suited for a humid weather. I can’t survive in coastal cities, because I can single-handedly solve the nation’s water problems by sweating.

‘Egg Masala’ in Chennai is actually a boiled egg with salt and red pepper sprinkled on it.

I can’t speak Tamil to save my life. And, a weird, throaty combination of Hindi and Kannada makes a bad substitute.

One of the three changes of underwear I had brought along belonged to my terrorist brother. So, I was stuck in Chennai for three days with only two changes of underwear. You don’t want to know what I did.

Met Archie, Arvind, Vishesh, Apar and Aparna in a small bloggers’ meet. Yeah, I met Vishesh. I’m not kidding. He’s for real.

On the way back, I got stuck in the very last seat of a ridiculous excuse of a bus, in between two people who gave me a run for my money in the sweating department.

Every time the bus hit a bump, I was flying high, literally.

I arrived this morning in Bangalore, sleep deprived, but in one piece.

Phew, not quite a short one, eh?

I felt like Johnny Bravo, trapped in a strange land with nothing but beautiful women all around. Eve

I felt like Johnny Bravo, trapped in a strange land with nothing but beautiful women all around. Everywhere I looked, there were hot, sexy women flaunting themselves, lost in the oblivion of beauty. And for someone like me who hauls from a concrete jungle where the only eye-candy is found in a mirror, I was irreproachably lost and felt a pang of jealousy for every man who walked the streets in that Paradise.

I was in Ahmadabad for the weekend, arriving in Bangalore only last night. The return flight was anything but comfortable. Indigo Airlines has a reputation for more heart-in-the-mouth moments than any other airline and last night, I experienced it first hand. The plane was rattling to the bone, crunching and creaking at every seam and the nuts and bolts could be heard deafeningly loud in the ear. The pitiful whine of the engines added to the mayhem and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one sitting hunched up, hugging myself and my dear life.

But the deathtrap was worth it’s airfare as it dropped me safe and sound and in one piece in Bangalore, when I promptly fell to the ground, kissed it and flipped two big, fat middle fingers to the plane. As I walked down the rickety ramp, I could sense the huge beast breathing heavily and sighing with relief from the strain of being pushed to its limits for two-and-a-half hours.

Ahmadabad is a Paradise with a violent past and a glorious future, living in it’s quiet, picturesque present. The people are warm and fuzzy, and they talk about their Paradise with a pinch of salt, cringing every time memories come flooding back. Being a lion from a concrete jungle, I had no connect to their violence, no sense of belonging in a bloodshed past, and nothing to offer but a kind ear.

The women – oh god, the women there are breathtakingly beautiful. I felt so relieved that I was in love with the most beautiful woman in the world, because if I wasn’t, I would have been so tempted! Some of the places I visited were absolute thrills, and for a few minutes, I was comparing God’s creativity and Man’s imitation of the same – the women and the architecture, respectively.

The Architectural Splendor At Adalaj

The step-well at Adalaj was so perfect in more ways than one – every turn and every bend boggling the mind with the complexity of the labyrinth; the light sneaking in at every turn, break and crack, throwing up fascinating shadows and reducing us to mere silhouettes; the throng of people, open-mouthed and yet, cautiously silent, awed by the hidden divinity of the place; and the beautiful women made the picture complete.

The Serenity At Sabarmathi

Rare Peek Into The Mahatma's Room

Sabarmathi Ashram was the other major pitstop I had, and amidst the quiet chaos in the heart of the city, the place had an eerie calm to it, ensconcing the visitor in a shroud of silence and almost forcing everyone to marvel at the power that Gandhi wielded without touching a single weapon, without commanding a single army and without having the luxury of wealth, office and politics. It made me feel proud. It made me feel small.

The obvious highlight of the trip was meeting three of the sweetest bloggers – Manushi, Sakhi and Alice. It was a different thrill meeting each one of them, and it did not feel awkward or constrained at all. The fact that each one had in them something different to offer to the conversation and add to that my fascination of finally meeting them, made what could have been a potentially disastrous meet into something akin to absolute fun. You three are great and I take my (non-existent) hat off to you.

Of course, the most prominent part of my trip was my reunion with a dear old classmate/friend/confidante/curse-buddy/beer-buddy/sutta-partner of mine – Chucks. She was back in India for a semester break during her MBA in Sydney, and meeting her was an absolute thrill that cannot be expressed. I raise my glass of beer in toast to you, Chucks, and hope that you succeed in whatever you do. Tiny steps, remember?

All in all, it was a great weekend. I got some quality work done, met some absolutely fantastic people and saw some breathtaking places. Ahmadabad must be on every traveler’s list. It’s worth a re-visit.

[This is the new thing I am doing]

An important update on this. The meeting is cancelled because there were only 8 confirmed bloggers for the meet, and the ABIDE team wasn’t interested in meeting such a small group. I don’t blame them, after all Mr. Mishra and Mahesh are really busy people. That also makes me realize what a shame it is that they are all so fond of cribbing but no one wants give up their Sunday morning for something really constructive.

Anyway the Blogaloreans are now focussed on organizing a Free Hug Campaign on V-Day to defy Mr. Muthalik in his anti humanity attempts. Follow the discussion here :)

—

We, the Bangalore Bloggers have a great opportunity to participate in the planning and development process of our favourite city, Bengaluru.

Many of you might have already heard of Bengaluru Vedike. It’s an initiative by Member of Parliament – Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar. A platform for public-spirited citizens of Bengaluru, aimed at making a difference to the future of Bengaluru by engaging all its stakeholders to a vision of clean, green, safe and progressive city.

One of their initiative is ABIDE Plan Bengaluru 2020 under which the team have recently launched four action plans and blueprints in the areas of (1) Govern Bangalore, 2) Road Traffic Management 3) Urban Poor 4) Security [More details on ABIDE page]

Lead India winner Mr. RK Mishra (who is also a blogger btw) and India Together’s Co-founder, Mapunity founder Mr. Ashwin Mahesh, who are also members of ABIDE, have co-authored the action plan related to Road Traffic Mangament. They have expressed their willingness to meet the Bangalore Bloggers to obtain their feedback / review of the Plans.

Their aim is to get every Bangalorean to review these plans and add their feedback or add any specific concerns that might have been missed out and there is no better way to reach out but through the bloggers. You could give your reviews / feedback / bricks / bouquets about the plans on your personal blogs which could be featured on the Vedike home page. (Terms and Conditions apply. Would be decided post the meeting)

ABIDE team have offered to provide for the venue and lunch.

While I have always wondered about the different kinds of souls that lay masked beneath the wonderfu

While I have always wondered about the different kinds of souls that lay masked beneath the wonderful veil of their own individual blogs, I never thought that I’ll be able to meet a few of them – that too in a forum for bloggers! Forum for bloggeres? You must be mad! That’s what I thought when I accidentally bumped into a fellow tweeple’s tweet. Hurriedly exchanged tweets and googling finally took me to the official website and to my dismay, the registrations were already closed! Called a few people, spoke to them (the usual hey-dude-c’mon-man) and finally was assured that I may get an entry, provided I reach on time!

For some motivation, I called up a fellow blogger just to check whetther he could accompany me. His initial response was enthusiastic, but everyone succumbs to “family duties”, especially on a weekend. Can’t blame him, as I’ve been on that side too.

So Saturday morning, saw me packing up my laptop and heading towards the Microsoft office – even though the watchmen and the dogs curiously observed my strange act. (They’ve always seen me in my shorts, especially on Saturdays)

After convincing the security guards at the entrance that I had indeed speken to the organizers (coz my name wasn’t mentioned in the registration list), I finally walked into the conference hall of Microsoft. Though I was surprised to see only a few people, it kept on growing as the session began. “Cool…Nice..”, I thought to myself!

After the initial rounds of introductions and a few smiles and waves, it finally got started. For those who’ve never heard of Blog Camps, these are forums where bloggers meet at one place and then they just share ideas, experiences and doubts. In one sense, its more of an unconference. Nothing is decided, bloggers can randomly come and speak on any topic – later on they discuss and share ideas’n'opinions on the same.

The session started with ‘Aham’. He spoke about blogging with a heart. Some of his ideas were really inspiring as it was not ‘merely’ ideas. He had experimented with them before. He spoke with lot of concern and heart.

While we’d got a little too serious about blogging with Aham, the indisputable ‘Thakkar’ came to our rescue with truckloads of wit and sarcasm. I must confess that at one point I almost saw myself falling of the chair. He was simply adorable and his experiences will continue to occupy 1.37% of my brain – atleast for a week!

After Thakkar, came Arcopolo – the journalist. His was an interactive session on “Blogging vs the traditional media”. Some interesting insights and connotations came out of his session. As an observer, I got a real feel of how traditional media is in danger of extinction in the near future.

Then we ate pizzas for lunch and immediately after lunch to my surprise, it was my turn to take a session, though I had stuck my post-it to a different time slot. Without any preparation I spoke on “Reflections on blogging” – how as a blogger I’m in access of so much information. As a result how traditional notions of knowledge and truth were being challenged or perhaps erased forever – thus changing the existing structures of power. I wanted to keep it very short and luckily I did manage to finish it within the given time frame. I was also pleasantly surprised when a few came and told me how my thoughts were completely ‘out-of-the-box’ and was the best, etc..etc. I dont intend to give more details on what I presented as I intend to write a proper article on it. The topic shows real potential.

Then came IdeaSmith and she went on to deal with “Identity Issues in the Blogosphere” along with her experiences. I thought it was a great session as she spoke with her “soul”. And I simple love it when people speak genuinely, without any masks or hidden agendas. She was also funny and smart. To my surprise she turned to be an urban-spirited-feminist.

After IdeaSmith, Neeraj (skyn3t) took an enlightening session on “Identity theft, Anonymous blogging and Free Speech”. Though it was a little techie-techie, it was very useful. While I looked around to see all enthusiastic techies responding and interacting with Neeraj, I found a little-lost-like-me soul, Payal. (Damn! I hope this was her name. I’m really bad with names). I thought she was cute

Then came the Microsoft Man – Hardik. And he really sold Windows Live Writer to us. I’ve already got it installed. It’s really nice and while it respects our freedom, it also comes free! Hardik was good!

Then spoke Priyanka…on “Blogging for money and other techniques on how to popularize one’s blog”. She was straight forward and promoted inkfruit. Sshhhh promotions are strictly prohibited here. In between Dinesh spoke on a lot of things. That was interesting too!

Overall it was a Saturday well spent. It ended with a photo session and the usual socializing.

A big ‘Thank you hug’ to Hardik, Moksh, Netra and Sampad. Next time you need any sponsors, please contact me.

A bigger ‘Thank you hug’ to Microsoft and Ibibo. The event would have been incomplete without you’ll.

Looking forward to the next one!

P.S: It was also great meeting all of you guys who listened, debated, discussed, and socialized patiently and wonderfully!

Indiblogger.in braved a hot and sultry day for their sixth indiblogger bloggers meet in just six mon

Indiblogger.in braved a hot and sultry day for their sixth indiblogger bloggers meet in just six months! Having conducted similar such meets in Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai, we were really excited to touch-base with bloggers in Delhi. We found a fair share of talented bloggers ranging from musicians, pro-bloggers, political bloggers to a fitness expert and a very shy blogger who just found out that he could orate!

We were helped by IBNMS who have been enabling bloggers in Delhi for quite a few years now. They showed a lot of enthusiasm and their participation in the meet was very well received by all the bloggers present.

THE AGENDA

We at Indiblogger.in have always been known for our very unorthodox approach to hosting a bloggers meet. We have never hosted a presentation on SEO techniques or a “how to” on blogging. We leave that to the professionals and e-learning sites on the internet. At Indiblogger we always try our best to bring out the “blogger” in a blogger and the “indi” in an Indian. We thought the Delhi bloggers reacted wonderfully to this

ideology and fashioned a fun evening out of it.

The evening started with us finding our way to the venue, Chitranjan Memorial Hall
C-405a, C R Park, Delhi – 110019 with a taxi driver who had questionable driving skills. We started the bloggers meet with about 35 bloggers. This we found was quite strange as there were close to 70 registrations on the site. Still, there was no lack of enthusiasm when we played the presentation by Vineet who also hosted the Pune bloggers meet. The agenda for this meet was similar to all the other bloggers meet. We started with the indiblogger team giving everyone a look into our thoughts behind the indiblogger.in initiative which of course involved a bottle of Old monk and selective amnesia as we pondered over the question “Who really made indiblogger?”. The answer – “We don’t know!”. The mystery however will be solved… Soon!

THE 1 MINUTE OF FAME!

IBNMS then took the opportunity to introduce themselves and talk about their initiatives in the Delhi blogosphere. We then moved on to “1 minute of fame”. This particular section was very interactive and gave the bloggers a minute to showcase their blogs and also reveal their interests and the blogs that they visit. As always we found this to be an integral part of our agenda as this gave bloggers a chance to connect with like minded bloggers and also effectively use the networking feature in indiblogger.in to build up their community. Bloggers like Rahi Vidya who was relatively unknown in the blogosphere generated interest through this section. This is in line with one of the indibloggers’ primary objectives to provide more exposure to blogs that deserve attention but for some reason remain estranged.

DO THE JIG/PIZZAS FOR EVERYONE

It was time for the indiblogger “JIG”. This was our way of demonstrating to bloggers the importance of knowing every visitor who took valuable time to visit. In many cases, the number of readers/comments on a blog or blog post is a benchmark to determine the popularity of a blog, its originality and a promise of reader satisfaction. We read through some of the comments on chosen blogs and the “JIG” was done by the blogger who either posted the comment or the one who was commented on. After getting Jiggy with it, we moved on to grabbing ourselves a few slices of Pizza and some soft drinks sponsored by Microsoft. Many bloggers grabbed this opportunity to socialize with all the other bloggers. We also had a number of bloggers interested in indiblogger’s road map and why we were investing time and money on these engagements. To tell everyone the truth – We honestly don’t know! Our current objectives have been trying to build up the offline and online blogging community, instill a sense of responsibility, promote blogging in general and see where it takes us. We expect only the bloggers participation and nothing more!

CODE OF ETHICS

Once the mingling session was over we got down to some serious business. Internally Indiblogger has been flogging the idea of a code of ethics document for Indian bloggers. The Delhi bloggers meet was the first time that this idea was taken public and quite seriously by any blogging association. Our objective for such a document was to give Indian bloggers guidelines, etiquettes and best practices for bloggers to communicate. In an internet where plagiarism, spam, lack of communication etiquettes is an everyday affair, we found it very important for us to ensure that indibloggers followed some ethics.

The discussion was very open and the Delhi bloggers understood what we meant and what we were trying to achieve. Their interaction helped us understand the blogging community a little better and what they stood for. For example, while some experienced bloggers knew the importance of giving a link back to the original post that they had copied, others did not. This discussion helped us realize that the code of ethics document was all the more important to bring in a higher standard and ensure that every blogger old or new understood how non adherence to such ethics would impact a fast growing blogging community. When the concept finally sunk in everyone had experiences on the lack of such ethics either as a victim or an unknowing offender.

THE CLOSE

At this point, the discussion was heating up. Alas! the day had come to a close and we promised the bloggers to take the discussion online. Even though the crowd didn’t number up to capacity, it was a meet where the indiblogger team took home a lot! And I’m sure the bloggers did too. We can’t wait to be back in Delhi! For now it’s off to Kolkata for us. What we have found out though is that Indian bloggers are certainly unified in diversity. Everyone seems to know bloggers in different states, languages etc and we’d like to think that we had something to do with it .
