Dopo tanta attesa,finalmente la formazione capeggiata da Alexi Laiho torna a farsi sentire con questo nuovo album.Ci eravamo lasciati con l’imponente album “Are you dead yet” e non potevamo che aspettarci grandi cose da questi musicisti di spiccato talento.Ma purtroppo le nostre aspettative e i nostri ricordi legati a capolavori come “Hatebreeder” e “Follow The Reaper” vengono un pò delusi.Un album che dà l’impressione di essersi limitati,potevano fare molto di più!Nonostante tutto si nota una notevole crescita in questi ultimi tre anni e non mancano gli elementi distintivi della band come le urla di Alexi o l’uso delle tastiere;tutto viene però utilizzato con più moderazione ed è forse per questo che dà l’idea di essersi limitati.Senza dubbio il pezzo più bello è “Lobodomy” che inizia con un bel giro di batteria per poi essere seguito da tastiere inframezzate da taglienti riff;Alexi ha una voce secca e decisa,batteria e chitarra si fondono assieme generando un’atmosfera compressa.Al min. 2.15 inizia un bell’assolo che ci conclude col passaggio alle tastiere,dimostrandosi un ottima soluzione formale.Ciò che ritengo più rilevante di quest’album non sono solo le innovazioni,anche se poche,ma piuttosto lo spirito di coesione che mostra il gruppo,frutto di un buon lavoro in studio.Deludenti in particolar modo canzoni come “Blooddrunk” che risulta essere piatta,ripetiviva,non spiazza l’ascoltatore e lo abbandona a una struttura che non entusiasma,l’intro invece è interessante ed è piuttosto un tuffo nel passato,ai vecchi lavori.In “Hellbounds on my Trail”si apprezza molto l’uso dei cori e il potente giro di batteria,soprattutto nella parte iniziale,il brano è molto veloce e Laiho è a dir poco impeccabile,le tastiere che si integrano appieno.In conclusione un album che non ha al suo interno il capolavoro ma mostra che i Children of Bodom sono ancora vivi ed hanno ancora tanto da darci.Sono in splendida forma e il gruppo è coeso.Insomma hanno tutte le carte in regola per continuare a confermare la loro posizione ed evolversi musicalmente.

Toca el turno de ponernos un poco más agresivos pero no por eso menos melódicos… aunque a decir verdad el término melódico causa algunas controversias, sobre todo si hablamos del siguiente grupo, a decir verdad un excelente grupo proveniente de las gélidas tierras de Finlandia: Children of Bodom.

Los Children sacaron el año pasado lo que hasta ahora es su último material de estudio llamado Blooddrunk (Ebrio de sangre sería una traducción aproximada), mismo que presenta una continuidad en el sonido de la banda y la ratifica como una de los grandes pilares dentro del llamado death metal melódico.

Death metal melódico… acá creo que me voy a aventar a algunos cuantos lectores encima pero en verdad que el término nunca me ha cuadrado completamente. “¿Qué estilo toca tu banda? Ah, tocamos death melódico”. Creo que la manía de encasillar a los diferentes estilos de música extrema nos ha llevado a tener incluso problemas a la hora de ordenar el material en el iTunes.

Pero bueno, dejemos nimiedades de lado y acerquémonos a este material que una vez más pone en evidencia la grandeza y el poder con el cual los Children of Bodom atacan sus instrumentos y les arrancan de las mismas entrañas canciones con alto octanaje y poder pesado.

Al pasar los años la banda liderada por Alexi Laiho (guitarra/voz) y conformada por Jaska W. Raatikainen en la batería, Roope Latvla en la otra guitarra, Henkka Sepalla en el bajo y Janne Wirman en los teclados han conseguido un status de poder entre los metaleros provenientes de Europa, no solo por su poderosa forma de hacer música, sino por mantener un estilo que disco con disco se ha ido refinando hasta llegar a este Blooddrunk.

Canciones llenas de agresión, rítmicas frenéticas, solos estridentes de guitarras y teclados, atmósferas oscuras y mucha artilleria pesada en la batería y el bajo se pueden apreciar, ejemplos son Hellbounds on my Trail, Lobodomy, Blooddrunk y Banned From Heaven.

Saber que aún existen bandas con la calidad interpretativa y compositiva dentro del llamado metal melódico es algo que se agradece, no todo son copias burdas de buenas bandas como Children of Bodom y al contrario, da gusto encontrar materiales como este disponibles de vez en vez.

Blooddrunk es un buen disco poderoso e intenso que debes conseguir, el link está de este lado pero el compacto lo encuentras en prácticamente cualquier tienda de discos.

La banda Filandesa de Death metal melodico y Power metal Children of bodom lanzo su ultimo album el 14 de abril del año 2008. El grupo dice que este disco va a tener un sonido mucho mas fuerte que los anteriores y muchas canciones que se acercan al power metal.

Un tema sencillamente acojonante.

El corte empieza ya con fuerza contenida: afilados riffs de guitarras (tanto rítmica, como solista) dan paso a la desgarrada voz de Laiho, a los que se les une un virtuoso teclado que crea la escena perfecta para una canción llena de fuerza.

Tras varios pinch harmonics, unos acordes a los teclados y unos fraseos de guitarra, viene un solo de guitarra que me dejó con la boca abierta: una escala ejecutada con una limpieza absoluta a la brutal velocidad marcada por el doble bombo, finalizando con un sweep picking-tapping a cuatro cuerdas (creo). Y para cerrar la parte centrar del tema, otro solo acojonante, esta vez del teclista. Sencillamente espectacular. La primera vez que oí este tema, estuve tres dias seguidos escuchando el disco, y cada vez que llegaba a la canción número 4, le daba al repeat.

En general, es un tema tremendamente técnico y además interpretado a una velocidad brutal, que evoluciona constantemente, y que prácticamente no repite un acorde. Si hubiera que definirlo en inglés, lo haría con dos palabras: power y speed. Y Aun siendo un tema de Death Metal, contiene a la perfección el espíritu del Heavy metal.

Recomendado escucharlo antes de salir a jugar un partido de rugby y machacar al contrario. Pura adrenalina.

Blooddrunk è il titolo del sesto album del gruppo musicale finlandese Children Of Bodom che è uscito in numerosissimi stati da Aprile (in Europa dal 7 Aprile).

Lo stile in quest’ultimo album è simile ai ritmi propri di “Hatecrew Deathroll”, con riff di chitarra tendenti verso il Thrash che donano all’intero album una certo dinamismo, variando così lo stile evidenziato nel penultimo album della band filandese “Are you Dead yet?”

Da poco è stato scelto l’ultimo singolo “Hellhounds On My Trail” dopo i successi di “Tie My Rope” (una vecchia canzone della band,rivista e remixata) e dell’omonimo singolo ” Blooddrunk”

Children of Bodom is one of those bands that people argue about the specific genre of metal that they fall into. While some continue to argue and even invent new genres to try and put the band in an easily definable box, I choose to invent my own genre, called Screamy-Shouty-Metal. This genre title perfectly sums up the style of music that is performed on this album.

Fiddly guitar solos and mangy riffs back the gruffs and growls of front man Alexi Laiho. As they speed through most of the album, like a fox chased by aliens, all we want to do is swing our long greasy hair about and bash in to each other. Then set fire to our hair and fly around the room.

At the beginning of the album, there isn’t enough to really excite me, it seems to drag on a bit.  A lot of it is very much like stuff they’ve done before, although it’s just not as good. I just feel that it lacked something, like when you’ve under-salted your food and although it is nice and tasty, it’s just a little short of perfection. The second half is much better, the songs are a lot more aggressive than previous works the songs here are some of their best works to date.

The last four songs on the album are superb, fully salted, and while the first half of the album does lack, it is saved by these last four songs. The last two especially, are perfect. ‘Banned from heaven’ and ‘Roadkill’ are excellent songs and will certainly be going on a permanent playlist.

Blooddrunk – Dies ist der Name der neuen Children of Bodom Platte, welche seit dem 11.04.2008 nun endlich auch für die deutschen Fans im Handel erhältlich ist. Drei lange Jahre, haben die Fans auf das nächste Werk der finnischen Metal Combo warten müssen, und nun ist es soweit. Ich habe mir das Album mittlerweile äußerst intensiv zu Gemüte geführt, und würde meine Meinung über eben jenes, gerne mit euch teilen. Bevor ich direkt aufs Album eingehe, erst einmal ein paar Infos über die Band:

Review:

Wenn man an diesen Tagen die gängigen Metal Foren durchstöbert und dort nach Meinungen zum neuem Werk von Children of Bodom sucht, dann stellt man eins wie so oft fest: die Meinungen gehen weit auseinander. Während die einen sehr zufrieden und glücklich mit der neuen Silberscheibe sind, so sind die anderen abermals enttäuscht darüber, dass sich die Jungs aus Finnland stur weigern sich in irgendeiner Art und Weise “weiterzuentwickeln” bzw. ihrem typischen Sound neue musikalische Akzente beizumischen. Ich für meinen Teil gehöre eher zu den zufriedenen Sorte, ohne aber außen vor zu lassen dass “Blooddrunk” in der Children of Bodom Diskographie insgesamt für mich eher zu den durchschnittlicheren Alben zählt. Was ich als sehr positiv empfinde, ist dass im Vergleich zu “Are you dead yet” wieder mehr Wert aufs Keyboard gelegt wurde, und dadurch Songs wie Blooddrunk und Tie my Rope mit sehr glorreichen Keyboard Intros versehen wurden. Gerade Blooddrunk ist für mich einer der besten Songs, der Chorus geht schnell ins Ohr und dem Blooddrunk Schrei kann ich mich schwer entziehen (Paralelle zu Bloodshed?^^). Ein sehr eingängier Song zum mitgrölen, welcher bestimmt in keinem Live Programm von Children of Bodom mehr fehlen wird. Ein Song, welcher meiner Meinung nach ebenso ganz oben mitspielt, ist Banned from Heaven der auch durch schöne Keyboard Elemente und sehr melodische Riffs glänzen kann. Soundtechnisch sehr beeindruckt hat mich der Song Smile Pretty for the Devil. Der Song weiß mit einem sehr genialem Gitarren Solo aufzuweisen, und auch hier findet der Keyboarder genug Platz um sich auszutoben. Wer auf Gitarren Solos steht wird auch mit One Day you will Cry seinen Spaß haben, hier wollen mich die Vocals aber nicht wirklich vom Hocker haun. Die härtere und schnellere Schiene schlägt die Band mit Stücken wie Roadkill Morning und Lobodomy ein. Hier werden die Riffs schneller und härter und das Keyboard rückt ein wenig mehr in den Hintergrund. Diese Songs passen sich dennoch sehr gut ins Gesamtbild des Albums ein.
An Geschwindigkeit mangelt es Hellbounds on my Trail auch nicht, und Alexi Laiho schafft es meiner Meinung nach mit seinen Vocals dem Stück nen ziemlich trashigen Sound einzuverleiben. Bisher unerwähnt blieb Done with Everything, Die for Nothing, der Song gibt mir persönlich nicht wirklich viel, für mich das schwächste Stück auf der Platte.

Insgesamt ist das Album für mich sehr schnörkellos und direkt, es fehlen mir persönlich ein wenig die absoluten Ohrwurm Knaller ala Sixpounder, Hate Me!, In your Face und wie sie alle heißen. Die Lyrics sind wie immer auch sehr direkt und laden nicht zu tiefgreifenden Interpretationen ein. Sie wirken aber auch nicht unüberlegt und sinnlos zusammengeheftet. Ganz typisch Children of Bodom also auch in diesem Bereich.

Obwohl das Album soundtechnisch schon ganz oben mitspielt, weil mir aber eben der Funken Außergewöhnliches, Einzigartiges fehlt, kommt das Album bei mir auf eine Wertung von 7/10.

Fazit: Nicht das von vielen erhoffte Meisterwerk aber trotzdem 100% CoB und ein Pflichtkauf für jeden Fan.

Another take on Children Of Bodom’s latest release – Blooddrunk.



I’ve recently lost interest in Children of Bodom, with a lot of their previous material sound too similar. That said, there remained enough standout material for me to remain interested enough to get myself a leaked copy of Blooddrunk, and I’m fairly glad that I did.



The leak has 9 tracks in total, although wikipedia claims there are 4 related covers (Stan Jones, Suicidal Tendencies, Creedance Clearwater Revival and Kenny Rogers songs too be covered).



With the new album has come a slight deviation from the style that Bodom fans have come to love, and others have loved to hate. A number of the tracks – Hellbounds On My Trail for one – seem to throw some Thrash Metal (think Slayer) into the mix.

To be truly excellent, CoB need to simplify things. Sure, there is a massive following that needs to be worried about, but the music is so complicated that it becomes difficult to enjoy. To be truly outstanding (in my eyes) they need to cut it back. Record an album at their roots – the mesh of Power and Melodic Death Metal. Or go further back, and create a pure Power Metal or pure MDM album. It would be completely different, but extremely enjoyable.



Overall, I do like this album, and will definately be worth whatever I have to pay for it in stores.

The standout tracks are Blooddrunk and Done With Everything, Die For Nothing.

This is Children of Bodom’s newest Video Blooddrunk. The album titled “blooddrunk”will be released on 04/07/08 but wont be realsed in the U.S. till  the 15th. Alexi Laiho (singer and lead guitarist) has stated that he has been feeling very aggressive while writing the songs, and that they will be faster and “thrashier” than the songs displayed on their latest release, Are You Dead Yet? He has also notified fans, however, that certain parts of the album will be more progressive.
