(GiaVang.com.vn – Giá vàng Việt Nam và Thế Giới) – Sau phiên điều chỉnh giảm nhẹ hôm 21.9, thị trường chứng khoán Mỹ đã tăng nhẹ trở lại trong phiên ngày 22.9 (kết thúc rạng sáng nay 23.9, giờ VN), góp phần giúp chứng khoán thế giới có phiên tăng điểm trọn vẹn.

Chỉ số công nghiệp Dow Jones tiếp cận gần hơn mốc 10.000 điểm đã bị bỏ quên lâu nay.

Chứng khoán thế giới mở đầu phiên giao dịch ngày 22.9 bằng một thông tin khả quan từ ngân hàng Phát triển châu Á (ADB). Theo ADB, tăng trưởng kinh tế trong năm 2009 của khu vực châu Á (ngoại trừ Nhật Bản) sẽ vào khoảng 3,9%, trong đó, các nước có kinh tế phát triển khá nhất trong năm nay sẽ là Trung Quốc, Ấn Độ và Indonesia.

Tại Mỹ, Cục Dự trữ Liên bang Mỹ (Fed) đang xem xét việc có tiếp tục duy trì lãi suất cơ bản ở mức thấp kỷ lục như hiện nay hay không. Khảo sát của Bloomberg Newscho thấy, hầu hết các nhà kinh tế học đều mong muốn và dự đoán Fed sẽ giữ nguyên mức lãi suất này (từ 0 đến 0,25%) thêm một thời gian nữa nhằm định rõ đà phục hồi kinh tế.

Trên Phố Wall, cổ phiếu của hầu hết các ngành từ ngân hàng – tài chính, công nghệ, bán lẻ tới các công ty sản xuất nguyên liệu thô đều tăng giá. Có thể kể tới như cổ phiếu JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America và Goldman Sachs lần lượt tăng ở mức 4,3%, 2,1% và 1,7%.

Tổng kết phiên, S&P 500 tăng 0,7% lên mức 1.071,66 điểm; chỉ số Dow Jones Industrial tăng 51,01 điểm, tương đương 0,5%, lên thành 9.829,87 điểm; chỉ số Nasdaq Composite tăng 0,4%, lên 2.146,3 điểm. thị trường Chứng khoán Mỹ góp phần giúp chỉ số MSCI World tăng 1,1%.

Tại châu Âu, FTSE 100 của Anh tăng 0,16% lên thành 5.142,6 điểm; CAC 40 (Pháp) và DAX (Đức) lần lượt tăng 0,3 và 0,7% lên mức 3.823,52 điểm và 5.709,38 điểm. Chỉ số HSI của Hồng Kông trong phiên cùng ngày (kết thúc chiều qua theo giờ VN) cũng tăng tới 228,29 điểm, tương đương 1,06%, đạt 21.701,14 điểm.

* Sáng nay, giá dầu thô tại New York (Mỹ) có xu hướng giảm sau khi Viện Dầu mỏ Mỹ (API) công bố báo cáo cho thấy dự trữ dầu thô tại quốc gia tiêu thụ dầu mỏ hàng đầu thế giới này đã tăng thêm 276.000 thùng trong tuần qua, lên mức 337,2 triệu thùng, lượng xăng dự trữ cũng tăng thêm 3,8 triệu thùng.

Nhưng bù lại, đồng dollar Mỹ trượt giá mạnh so với EUro khiến cho giới đầu tư quay sang chú tâm tới dầu, vàng; do đó, mức độ giảm của giá dầu không quá lớn và vẫn giữ được trên mức 71 USD/thùng.

Giá dầu thô giao tháng 11 tại Sở giao dịch hàng hóa New York (NYMEX) được giao ở mức 71,61 USD/thùng, ghi nhận lúc 12 giờ trưa nay (giờ VN); mức chốt phiên ngày 22.9 của dầu này là 71,76 USD/thùng. giá dầu giao tháng 10 chốt phiên giao dịch cuối cùng (22.9) ở mức 71,55 USD/thùng.

giá dầu Brent giao tháng 11 tại London (Anh) sáng nay cũng giảm 0,9% xuống còn 69,9 USD/thùng. Giá chốt phiên ngày 22.9 của dầu này là 70,53 USD/thùng, tăng 1,84 USD/thùng, tương đương 2,68% so với phiên trước đó.

* thị trường giao dịch vàng tại New York tiếp tục chuỗi ngày sôi động khi giá vàng lại được đẩy lên cao khi dollar Mỹ trượt giá. Tính tới 13 giờ 4 phút chiều nay (23.9, giờ VN), vàng giao tháng 12 tại NYMEX của phiên ngày 23.9 dao động từ 1.014,3 đến 1.020,4 USD/ounce. Giá chốt phiên ngày 22.9 của vàng này là 1.015,5 USD/ounce, tăng 10,6 USD/ounce, tương đương 1,05% so với phiên trước đó.

* Đồng dollar Mỹ tuột xuống mức thấp nhất trong vòng một năm qua so với EUro. Tỷ giá trao đổi giữa hai đồng tiền này trên thị trường New York vào lúc 13 giờ 24 phút chiều nay (giờ VN) ở mức 1 EUR đổi 1,4804 USD, nghiêng hơn về phía EURo so với mức 1,4790 USD/1 EUR vào cuối ngày 22.9. Cùng thời điểm trên, 1 USD đổi được 90,76 JPY.

My small part in the current re-emergence of malaise in the financial world.

By now it is known to those who need to know and even known to those who don’t know that the financial world is having another attack of the Wobbly’s over its state of financial well being.

Most people know that Dubai exploded from left field into global consciousness on Thursday morning [26^th November 2009] when it announced [the possibility of] defaulting on a major debt obligation.

Briefly: when you can’t pay your mortgage payments or the hp payment on your motoring vehicle there is a chance that the bank concerned will take action to re-possess your hard won goodies and drop you in the deep poo.

It is said usually that when you owe the bank a million you have the problem. But if you owe the bank a hundred million then the bank has a problem.

In Dubai’s case they owe the “bank” SIXTY BILLION dollars and in the generally lying duplicitous way of the world, the truth is they probably owe a great deal more than that.

Now they have been jolly crafty about it. They announced the ‘default’ [probability of] as they were all going off on a ‘sacred’ four day holiday long weekend [read: do not disturb.], and simultaneously the US stock market was partially closed for thanksgiving [ they were ferociously thankful]. The contagion has so far impacted on the euro zone and also on the Far East where markets generally have taken a three to four percent tumble on rapid profit taking [they have since started clawing back but with tremulous fingers: after all Monday is a long way off].

So what was Blogroid’s small part in the event, about which he is a tad smug, purely for self-actualisation academic reasons, since he had nothing to gain personally from the sudden rush to the covers.

Like many people the blog has been puzzled by the ongoing rise in the world’s stock markets and their seeming disconnection from the real world of money and work and food and things tangible and happiness inducing. For instance; these past few weeks, the JSE ALL share index has topped over 27,000. The Dow Jones has topped 10,000; the FTSE over 5000 and so on with the Hang Sen, the Nikkei et al. These are close to the all time high figures recorded before the recent global financial collapse.

In the intervening period some 50 MILLION people worldwide have been thrown out of employment, one million in our own country [RSA] and we regard ourselves as being in a simple trade cycle downswing. Dozens of fundamentally un-sound businesses have been baled out temporarily from systemic long-term trouble by governments all over the world. Some countries like Iceland have more or less gone ‘bankrupt’ [Do whole countries actually go bankrupt or do they simply renege on debt obligations and bankrupt the lenders, all over the planet]. Car sales are down 50% on a few years ago no matter how sneakily we attempt to fudge reality, and so are sales of almost all commoditised products from cell’phones to computers to furniture n uncle tom Cobbley n all his stuff.

The consumer [those that are still in employment] has retreated to the sidelines, and the only game in town, as the Corporates attempt to stave off disaster, is to shove one’s turnover into short-term money markets everywhere for radical wound licking therapy. In reality there is nothing much to substantiate this ongoing rise and rise and rise of the world’s asset markets.

Intrinsically we have a wall of state funded “free” money floating in the world attempting to multiply itself simply by exploiting the various leads and lags in the system… This is inherently unstable and, to resort to a current cliché, unsustainable.

So I had this image that popped into my head while I was listening/watching the Asia Confidential business chat show with Bernie Lo, on channel 411: Bloomberg, out of Hong Kong, on Wednesday morning. I saw all the stock markets rising like bread in a hot oven, but there wasn’t really enough yeast to support the rise and what would happen if someone opened the oven door inopportunely. Naturally this led me to wondering what could cause the door to be opened?

At that moment Bernie Lo did his daily invite to the public to send their emails to his address shown on screen and on impulse, and notwithstanding that I was immersed at the time in getting out my final, annual assessment figures, for incorporation into the machine later in the morning, I wrote down the address and asked him the question.

For those of you who don’t know the production, Bernie Lo is [to my mind] a kind of Oprah of the business chat show business. It is part of my world to watch/listen to the business channels, which happens often while I am doing other things like… In the mornings at 5 am I feed my pack of dogs and prepare mentally for the day to come. I do much of this in Tai Chi mode and what I want is an overview of what is happening outside, in the world, without our obsessive, frequently depressive, local, navel gazing inertia.

Later, I need to know what’s happening immediately outside in town; so I have some idea of what is to come when I leave the property for whatever reason. That news is going to come after six when I channel [sorry, station] surf through from Classic FM, to SAFM to 702 in pursuit of the daily headlines, financial indicators, weather forecast and most importantly, traffic status reports, all of which are centre stage while nourishment is ingested and material gathered for action. But the hour before from 5am to 6am is Bernie’s hour.

Business chat shows are something of an art form. To be able to tease fascinating nuggets of information, from normally reticent insiders to the machinations of the financial business world, is not something done well generally; and in our local environment is often syrupy beyond saccharine. Bernie Lo manages to slip in deeply perceptive questions without seeming even slightly nosy or intrusive. In fact he is often seemingly tossing out a deceptively beguiling stream of consciousness load of extraneous matter; and boom in comes the left hook. I would imagine his show counts its viewers in the millions and most would be people with an interest in money.

As a result there is a gain in knowledge from absorbing the views of his multiplicity of guests. It is also, for me, a bit like radio sweeping along while whilst preparing the dog’s daily meal, feeding the fish, loading the dishwasher, sweeping out the kitchen, shifting the right waste out to the worm farm and whatever else; like for instance sticking forty or fifty new words down on the computer screen, in my role as so called “writer” [keyboard operator really] although some do just go into my notebook. The information just flows along. Now and again, I stop, to watch the response from his guest/s… These responses have been made all the more interesting since I began watching a weekly series called “Lie to Me”.

And when Bernie Lo asked my question this week… Yes… my question out of the umpteen he must get every day… I felt wonderfully honoured and affirmed. When he asked what could make the oven door open, perhaps he had already peeked into the jaws of hell: and knew the answer. His guest however ducked; and mumbled an almost incoherent response. His body language said … Oh my god! Don’t go there! … We don’t want to know!

And so I thought that the idea of bread rising irrationally in a ,hot, hot oven was the image, on the minds of millions of investor decision makers later on Thursday morning when the news broke about Dubai: and the panic wave started as the bread began to fall… when the door was inopportunely opened.

“The more complex the issue, the more Mark Pittman wanted to dig into it. Years ago, he forced us to learn what a credit- default swap was. He dragged us kicking and screaming.”

A former police-beat reporter who joined Bloomberg News in 1997, Pittman wrote stories in 2007 predicting the collapse of the banking system.

Pittman’s fight to make the Fed more accountable resulted in an Aug. 24 victory in Manhattan Federal Court affirming the public’s right to know about the central bank’s more than $2 trillion in loans to financial firms.

Once in a while, journalists come across stories they really, really hope to be wrong about but, unfortunately, aren’t.

Mark Pittman of Bloomberg may have dug up the mother of all such stories:

A former police-beat reporter who joined Bloomberg News in 1997, Pittman wrote stories in 2007 predicting the collapse of the banking system. That year, he won the Gerald Loeb Award from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, the highest accolade in financial journalism, for “Wall Street’s Faustian Bargain,” a series of articles on the breakdown of the U.S. mortgage industry.

“He was one of the great financial journalists of our time,” said Joseph Stiglitz, a professor at Columbia University in New York and the winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize for economics. “His death is shocking.”

Pittman’s fight to make the Fed more accountable resulted in an Aug. 24 victory in Manhattan Federal Court affirming the public’s right to know about the central bank’s more than $2 trillion in loans to financial firms. He drew the attention of filmmakers Andrew and Leslie Cockburn, who gave him a prominent role in their documentary about subprime mortgages, “American Casino,” which was shown at New York City’s Tribeca Film Festival in May. …

The American financial media in general, obsessed as they are with power and personalities, didn’t see this storm coming until it was too late. Mark Pittman did, and hundreds of billions of evaporated wealth might still be here if his colleagues had followed his lead sooner.

Pittman, 52, leaves a wife, three daughters, his parents and two brothers.

(GiaVang.com.vn – Giá vàng Việt Nam và Thế Giới) – Ngày 22/9, chứng khoán Mỹ đã tăng điểm trở lại trong khi nhà đầu tư vẫn thận trọng chờ quyết định của FED.

Thị trường cổ phiếu được hỗ trợ tích cực bởi thông tin Bộ tài chính Mỹ đã huy động thành công 43 tỷ USD trái phiếu kỳ hạn 2 năm, trái tức 1,034%, với khối lượng đặt mua gấp 3,23 lần số lượng chào bán – mức cao nhất kể từ tháng 9/2007.

Dow Jones hướng tới ngưỡng 10.000 điểm

Các chỉ số Chứng khoán chính của Mỹ đã tăng xấp xỉ 0,5% khi mở cửa ngày giao dịch trước bối cảnh thị trường Chứng khoán châu Á và châu Âu cùng khởi sắc.

Thị trường phiên này tiếp tục chạy trong biên độ dao động hẹp do nhà đầu tư vẫn đang thận trọng chờ kết quả cuộc họp về chính sách tiền tệ của Cục Dự trữ Liên bang Mỹ (FED). Dự kiến vào lúc 2h15 chiều ngày 23/9 theo giờ địa phương, FED sẽ chính thức công bố quyết định về hướng điều hành chính sách tiền tệ.

Sau phiên điều chỉnh một ngày trước đó, sức cầu tỏ ra khá vững chắc trong phiên này khi chỉ có một lần duy nhất Dow Jones xuống dưới ngưỡng giá trị phiên trước, nhưng sau đó đã nhanh chóng lấy lại đà tăng và duy trì mạch tăng đến hết ngày giao dịch.

Với phiên tăng điểm này, chỉ số S&P 500 đã phục hồi 58,4% so với thời điểm thị trường xuống thấp nhất trong vòng 12 năm được thiếp lập ngày 9/3/2009. Trong khi đó, Dow Jones chỉ cách ngưỡng 10.000 điểm có 170,13 điểm, tương đương 1,73%.

Cổ phiếu của 10 ngành trong chỉ số S&P 500 hôm thứ Ba đều tăng điểm, trong đó mức hồi phục mạnh nhất thuộc về cổ phiếu ngành tài chính, công nghiệp và công nghệ.

Chỉ số S&P tài chính đã tăng 2,3%, trong đó cổ phiếu Bank of America lên 2,1%, cổ phiếu Citigroup tăng 4,97%, cổ phiếu Wells Fargo nhích 3,9%, cổ phiếu AIG tiến thêm 5,4%. Cổ phiếu blue-chip khối công nghiệp, khai mỏ thuộc chỉ số Dow Jones như Caterpillar, Alcoa có mức tăng lần lượt là 3,6% và 2,3%.

Điểm qua kết quả giao dịch ngày 22/9: chỉ số Dow Jones tăng 51,01 điểm, tương đương 0,52%, chốt ở mức 9.829,87.

Chỉ số Nasdaq lên 8,26 điểm, tương đương 0,39%, chốt ở mức 2.146,3.

Cuối cùng, chỉ số S&P 500 tiến thêm 7 điểm, tương ứng 0,66%, đóng cửa ở mức 1.071,66.

Khối lượng giao dịch trên sàn New York đạt 1,27 tỷ cổ phiếu, thị trường cứ có 5 cổ phiếu lên điểm thì có 2 cổ phiếu giảm điểm. Trên sàn Nasdaq, khối lượng khớp lệnh thành công đạt 2,51 tỷ cổ phiếu, thị trường cứ có 5 cổ phiếu tăng điểm thì có 4 cổ phiếu giảm điểm.

Những thông tin đáng chú ý trong tuần:

Thứ Tư: FED sẽ công bố quyết định về chính sách tiền tệ, lãi suất cơ bản.

Thứ Năm: Công bố số liệu về số người nộp đơn xin trợ cấp thất nghiệp lần đầu; hội nghị G20 sẽ khai mạc; công bố số liệu về doanh số nhà đã qua sử dụng chờ bán; đấu giá trái phiếu kỳ hạn 7 năm.

Thứ Sáu: Công bố số liệu về đơn đặt hàng lâu bền; doanh số nhà mới chờ bán; kết quả kinh doanh của KB Home.

Chứng khoán châu Á chuyển biến tích cực hơn

Ngày 22/9, nhiều thị trường chứng khoán châu Á đã tăng điểm trở lại nhưng thị trường Trung Quốc vẫn giảm điểm với biên độ khá lớn.

Diễn biến của thị trường chứng khoán khu vực đã tốt hơn phiên trước đó khi có tới 3 thị trường tăng điểm với biên độ trên 1%. Thị trường chứng khoán Nhật vẫn nghỉ giao dịch nhân ngày lễ, còn thị trường chứng khoán Trung Quốc lại lạc hướng với nhiều thị trường khác khi giảm trên 2%.

Chỉ số MSCI châu Á – Thái Bình Dương (ngoại trừ Nhật) phiên này đã tăng 1% lên 393,23 điểm. Như vậy chỉ số này đã tăng được 68% so với thời điểm thị trường xuống thấp nhất trong năm được thiết lập ngày 9/3/2009.

Điểm đáng chú ý trong phiên này chính là sự sụt giảm của thị trường chứng khoán Trung Quốc trước lo ngại nguồn cung cổ phiếu mới sẽ tạo sức ép đối với thị trường. Trong nhiều tháng qua, các công ty của Trung Quốc đã chào bán lần đầu ra công chúng lượng cổ phiếu trị giá 96,1 tỷ Nhân dân tệ.

Các cổ phiếu có sức ảnh hưởng tới thị trường đều giảm khá mạnh, trong đó cổ phiếu PetroChina hạ 2,2%, cổ phiếu Pudong Development Bank mất 4%, cổ phiếu Guoyuan Securities xuống 6,7%, cổ phiếu Tangshan Iron & Steel sụt giảm 7,55%,…

Kết thúc ngày giao dịch, chỉ số Shanghai Composite giảm 2,3%, chốt ở mức 2.897,55 – mức thấp nhất kể từ ngày 7/9/2009. Như vậy, chỉ số này đã phục hồi được 59% so với đầu năm 2009. Theo số liệu của Bloomberg, hiện giá cổ phiếu trong chỉ số này đang được giao dịch gấp 32,05 lần so với mức thu nhập được công bố.

Điểm qua các thị trường khác: chỉ số Taiwan Weighted của Đài Loan hạ 0,45%. Chỉ số VN-Index của Việt Nam tiến thêm 0,84%. Chỉ số ASX của Australia mất 0,28%. Chỉ số Hang Seng của Hồng Kông lên 1,06%. Chỉ số BSE 30 của Ấn Độ tăng 0,87%. Chỉ số KOSPI của Hàn Quốc lên 1,38%. Chỉ số Straits Times của Singapore lên 1,42%.

(GiaVang.com.vn – Giá vàng Việt Nam và Thế Giới) – Mặc dù bộ trưởng tài chính mới của Nhật Hirohisa Fuiji, cho biết quan điểm không ủng hộ một đồng tiền nội địa có giá thấp, song các ngân hàng lớn trên thế giới lại cho rằng ông Fuiji sẽ phải chấp nhận điều mà ông không thích.

Trong khi đồng Yên tăng giá so với hầu hết 16 đồng tiền được chấp nhận trong giao thương quốc tế kể từ chiến thắng vang dội của Đảng Dân chủ Nhật Bản trong cuộc bầu cử hồi tháng 8, các ngân hàng lớn lại dự đoán rằng đồng Yên sẽ giảm 5,1% so với USD và 0,8% so với Euro vào cuối năm nay.

Theo khảo sát dựa trên 40 đánh giá trung gian của Bloomberg, nền kinh tế hiện tại của Nhật Bản quá yếu để có thể duy trì được một tỷ giá mạnh. Khảo sát này cho thấy, Nhật Bản có thể là nước duy nhất trong nhóm G-10 sẽ không nâng giá mua đồng Yên trong năm 2010 và duy trì tỷ lệ lãi suất thấp hơn 0,1%.

Cũng theo các đánh giá trung gian, nền kinh tế sẽ tăng trưởng 0,8% vào năm 2010, khiến các tài sản tại Nhật Bản có lợi thế hơn so với các nước có giá mua đồng tiền cao hơn.
Trong khi Goldman Sachs đánh giá đồng Yên sẽ giảm từ 92,03 Yên/USD xuống còn 98 Yên/USD và từ 124,88 Yên/Euro xuống 142 Yên/Euro, các ngân hàng khác như Bank of America, HSBC còn có những dự đoán tồi tệ hơn.

(GiaVang.com.vn – Giá vàng Việt Nam và Thế Giới) – Giá vàng giao sau đã tăng lên vào hôm qua lần đầu tiên trong 4 ngày qua, kết thúc trên 1,010 USD/ ounce, do đồng USD suy yếu đã làm tăng sức hấp dẫn của kim loại này, cộng thêm nhu cầu của các quỹ đầu cơ vàng cho thấy sự cải thiện.

Chỉ số USD Index, một chỉ số chuẩn dùng để đánh giá sức mạnh đồng bạc xanh so với 6 đồng tiền chính khác, đã chạm xuống mức thấp nhất trong 1 năm qua khi có những dấu hiệu cho thấy nền kinh tế đang hồi phục. Điều này đã thúc đẩy giới đầu tư chuyển sang những tài sản có suất sinh lợi cao hơn. Chỉ số này đã giảm 5.6% trong năm nay tính đến ngày hôm qua, trong khi giá vàng đã leo lên 14%.

Matt Zeman, một nhà giao dịch kim loại thuộc LaSalle Futures Group Inc tại Chicago cho biết: “ Đồng USD đang bị giới đầu tư “đá văng” ra khỏi danh mục đầu tư. Sự biến động của vàng đều dựa vào những tiên đoán cho rằng USD sẽ còn tiếp tục đi xuống”.

giá vàng giao tháng 12 đã tăng 10.60 USD, tương đương 1.1%, lên mức 1,015.50 USD/ ounce trên sàn Comex của Sở hàng hóa New York, sau khi đã có lúc chạm đỉnh 1,021.50 trong phiên. Hôm thứ hai kim loại quý này đã có lúc rớt xuống mức thấp 996.30.

Tại Luân Đôn, giá vàng giao ngay cũng tăng 10.55 USD, tương đương 1.1%, lên mức 1,014.25 USD/ ounce vào lúc 6:56 p.m theo giờ địa phương. Giá vàng giao ngay và giao sau đều đã tăng trong 5 tuần qua.

Lượng vàng nắm giữ của quỹ đầu cơ vàng SPDR Gold Trust đã tăng 15.26 tấn lên 1,101.73 tấn. Lượng nắm giữ của quỹ này đạt kỷ lục cao nhất là tại 1,134.03 tấn hôm 01/06.

Trong khi đó, lượng nắm giữ của quỹ đầu cơ vàng ETF Securities Ltd. đã tăng 0.3% lên mức kỷ lục 8.323 triệu ounce hôm thứ hai.

James Moore, chuyên gia phân tích thuộc TheBullionDesk tại Luân Đôn cho biết trong một bản báo cáo như sau: “Sự tăng lên trong lượng nắm giữ của SPDR đang khuyến khích giới đầu tư trở nên thích nghi với giá vàng tại mức 4 chữ số”.

“ Nhưng chúng ta vẫn thấy vàng có nguy cơ điều chỉnh đi xuống rất lớn, đặc biệt là nếu G20 đồng ý thực hiện những sự thay đổi trong ngành ngân hàng và các hoạt động giao dịch”, Moore cho biết thêm.

Zeman thì cho rằng sự tăng lên của vàng có thể bị giới hạn bởi các nhà làm chính sách tại cuộc họp của Ủy ban thị trường mở liên bang ( FOMC) diễn ra vào hôm nay, và những dấu hiệu cho thấy nền kinh tế đang dần ổn định cũng như lãi suất có thể tăng lên trong bản báo cáo vào ngày mai.

Theo như một cuộc điều tra của hãng tin Bloomberg trên 93 nhà kinh tế thì tất cả đều cho rằng Fed sẽ giữ nguyên mức lãi suất cơ bản cho các khoản vay qua đêm từ 0 đến 0.25%.

Zeman nói: “ Các điều kiện cơ bản của đồng USD sẽ vẫn không tốt chừng nào mà Fed còn giữ nguyên mức lãi suất thấp như thế này. Nếu biên bản cuộc họp vào ngày mai của Fed cho thấy bất kỳ dấu hiệu nào về việc Fed sẽ thắt chặt tiền tệ, lúc đó chúng ta sẽ thấy một sự chạy tán loạn của giới đầu tư ra khỏi các quỹ đầu cơ vàng”.

Còn chuyên gia phân tích của Mitsubishi, Tom Kendall nhận định: “ thị trường đang mong chờ bất kỳ một sự thay đổi nào trong tốc độ hay hướng đi từ Fed. Nếu bản báo cáo cuộc họp của Fed được công bố vào ngày mai không có gì bất ngờ so với kỳ vọng, thì thị trường sẽ biến động như thường lệ… Đó là một tín hiệu đèn xanh báo chúng ta biết nên bán USD và đặt niềm tin vào vàng”.

Frank Holmes, CEO và cũng là giám đốc đầu tư của quỹ U.S Global Investors cho rằng đà đi lên của vàng phần lớn được dẫn dắt bởi sự suy yếu của USD.

Holmes nói: “CHúng ta vẫn đang trong một nền kinh tế giảm phát…nhưng vàng có thể đi lên với điều đó, bởi vì sự sụt giảm giá trị của các loại tiền tệ bị gây ra bởi sự chi tiêu thâm hụt của các quốc gia, cộng thêm mức lãi suất thực đang tiêu cực”.

Trong khi đó thì Afshin Nabavi, trưởng phòng giao dịch của MKS Finance cho biết: “Tôi theo trường phái giá lên nhưng tôi nghĩ chúng ta cần có một sự điều chỉnh đáng kể hơn”.

Hansen tại ngân hàng Saxo Bank thì lại cho rằng: “Chúng ta cần thấy mức kỷ lục cao trước đó phải bị phá vỡ. Chừng nào mà chúng ta vẫn bị thất bại trong việc chinh phục mức kỷ lục đó, thì khi đó luôn có nguy cơ là tính thanh khoản mua trên thị trường sẽ gây thất vọng”.

Andrew Montano, giám đốc giao dịch kim loại quý tại Scotia Mocatta nhận định: “ Chúng ta đã thấy giá vàng tăng lên mạnh tại Luân Đôn khi USD cho thấy sự suy yếu và EUR đã hồi phục trở lại mức kỷ lục 1.48”.

Montano cũng cho rằng một chất xúc tác cho sự tăng lên của giá vàng này là đến từ bản dự báo kinh tế đã điều chỉnh của ngân hàng phát triển châu Á (ADB). ADB đã nâng mức dự báo tăng trưởng GDP của châu Á lên mức 3.9% từ mức 3.4% trong năm nay, và từ mức 6.0% lên mức 6.4% vào năm tới.

Tuy nhiên, một chất xúc tác khác ảnh hưởng lên sự biến động của thị trường chính là thông tin tài khoản vãng lai của New Zealand thặng dư, Montano cho biết thêm.

“Những thứ đó chỉ là yếu tố cho giá vàng khởi động, còn mọi thứ đều tùy thuộc vào diễn biến của USD”, Montano nói.

Ngược lại, Daniel Pavilonis, chiến lược gia thị trường cao cấp thuộc Lind-Waldock đã cảnh báo rằng vàng vẫn có nguy cơ trước một sự điều chỉnh của đồng bạc xanh nếu như giá vàng không thể phá vỡ những mức cao gần đây. Trong trường hợp đó xảy ra, giá vàng có thể điều chỉnh xuống mức 975 đến 970.

Ông Pavilonis cũng chốt mức hỗ trợ cho giá vàng giao tháng 12 quanh mức 996, sau đó là 986 đến 982, và mức mua mục tiêu tại 975 đến 970.

Montano cũng cho rằng một sự kiện quan trọng mà thị trường đang chờ đợi chính là bản báo cáo cuộc họp của FOMC. Thị trường kỳ vọng không có sự thay đổi trong lãi suất.

“ Cuộc họp của G-20 có lẽ ít thú vị hơn so với của FOMC”, Montano nói. Các nhà lãnh đạo trong nhóm G20 cũng sẽ có cuộc họp bàn về kinh tế tại Pittsburgh vào cuối tuần này.

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine will make a tour of a series of Restaurants on the day one of his signature legislative accomplishments goes into effect. On December 1st, Kaine will make appearances at a number of different restaurants across Virginia in honor of the first day that Commonwealth’s ban on smoking in bars and eateries will be enforced. One of his stops will be here in Richmond. The Governor will appear at the Home Team Grill on Main Street in the Fan at 4pm.

I won’t go into length about my philosophical opposition to the smoking ban–I already did that here. But how swell is it that His Excellency is touting an increase in nanny state protections while leaving the state with a budget mess that barely covers essential services and even looks like it will leave his other landmark achievment, universal pre-K on the chopping block?

For those who smirk at my railing against statism, here’s a heartwarming Thanksgiving tale from that great bastion of nanny state thinking, Michael Bloomberg’s New York City (h/t Instapundit):

When a small church comes to the Bowery Mission bearing fried chicken with trans fat, unwittingly breaking the law, they’re told “thank you.” Then workers quietly chuck the food, mission director Tom Bastile said.

“It’s always hard for us to do,” Basile said. “We know we have to do it.” . . .

Lines at soup kitchens are up by 21 percent this year, according to a NYC Coalition Against Hunger report released yesterday. The city’s law banishing trans fat took effect in July 2008 and touched everyone with Health Department food licenses — including emergency food providers.

So come January 17th, how about just skedaddling on up to D.C. with your pal the President and work on consolidating statist thinking from the confines of the DNC? Kthanksbai.

Summer plans are set!

This week, I accepted a print reporting internship with Bloomberg, a financial news organization based in New York. I’ll be based in Detroit covering the automotive industry.

My summer plans are cemented — already. It’s the earliest I’ve ever known where I’d be interning, and it’s a relief! I’ll be working for a company that caters to major investors through its terminal service, as well as the general public on the Web, its newspaper wire service, and its cable television network. Bloomberg’s business model is fairly unique: it takes profits from its terminal, which Wall Street investors subscribe to for real-time data and stock tracking, and hires business journalists to break news before its competitors.

So, why take an internship “back home” in Michigan three years after I moved away to school in Missouri?

In my interview, I suggested I’d be most helpful in the Detroit bureau because I’ve grown up around the auto industry. (I’d be far less prepared to cover the tech industry in Silicon Valley, for example — although I’d love to learn some day.)

It’s a great beat because, if you haven’t heard, the auto industry has been in the news lately. I’ve spoken with a lot of people from around the country who don’t believe the federal government should’ve bailed out General Motors and Chrysler.

Growing up in eastern Michigan, I’ve seen the industry’s troubles, many of which were brought on by mismanagement. But I’ve seen how the industry affects family and friends who have worked for the Big Three over the years.

While some critics suggested the government should allow GM and Chrysler to fail, others raised concerns about the huge economic web the auto industry reaches as the heart of the American manufacturing sector. Even though both companies have emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, they’re not safe yet — sales are still slow after the Cash for Clunkers program offered a short-lived boost. So, I’ll be busy this summer.

From what I know, Bloomberg expects its interns to break news on our beats. I’ll not only learn a lot about business news reporting, but I’ll hopefully take away some great clips at the end of the summer.

I’m very happy because I’ve taken an internship with another major media organization, and that’ll

help when I’m looking for jobs next year.

I’m also happy right now because my internship search is over, and I can concentrate on my work in mid-Missouri for the next several months.

I’ll have plenty of updates in the coming months.

The election is predicted to bring in over one million voters to over 3,200 polling stations around the country, most of which will be moving around to reach the remote areas of the region.

The Namibian wrote that in a report on the election, Standard Bank’s economist Jan Duvenhage said, “Internationally, Namibia is already classified as a “flawed democracy… any additional slippage in the global democracy stakes will be a cause for concern.”

Currently Namibia is ranked 64th out of 167 countries on the latest Democracy Index of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), receiving an overall score of 6.48 out of a possible ten points.

Rally for Democracy and Progress is expected to pose the main opposition to South West African People’s Organization, the current ruling party in Namibia is expected to. Something had has not gone unnoticed by Swapo who has filed a $13 million defamation lawsuit the country’s opposition party.

According to Bloomberg.com, Swapo “… alleged that RDP leader Hidipo Hamutenya had damaged its reputation by claiming the party rigged previous elections when he addressed a rally in the northern town of Okongo this month.”

Nonetheless, a violent election is not expected. In IPS Graham Hopwood, political analyst and director of the Institute for Public Policy Research said, “Namibian elections are mostly peaceful, we don’t foresee surprises.” But even without violence, the BBC reports the National Society for Human Rights does expect attempts at poll rigging. They report the NSHR as stating, “.. the voters’ roll includes constituencies that have been listed twice, voters who have been listed twice and under-age people – a discrepancy of about 180,000 voters.” The NSHR are now being allowed to observe the presidential and parliamentary ballots at the numerous polling stations by the Namibian courts.

And finally, gender activists are afraid the election will lower the current female representation in the government from 30.8 percent to roughly 25 percent, a drop that will impede the region’s goal of 50 percent female representatives in politics by 2015.

“In their manifestos parties enshrine equal opportunities for men and women, but when the candidate list comes out, it’s dominated by men,” says Sarry Xoagus-Eises, country organizer for non-governmental organization that promotes gender equality, to IPS.

Results of the election are expected to be posted Sunday morning outside polling stations.

UPDATE HERE: DUBAI AS COMMERCIAL RE CANARY IN THE COAL MINE

Dubai’s sovereign debt is the disaster du jour, Europe already took a 3% hit yesterday while we were ODing on tryptophan and cranberry relish. We’re looking at a down 200+ open on the Dow as of this post (8am).

I’m still getting acquainted with the story, so I’ll post some headlines from the media below and comment later on today:

From Bloomberg:

Dubai World, the government investment company burdened by $59 billion of liabilities, sought this week to delay repayment on much of its debt. Stocks fell around the world for a second day, commodities dropped the most since July, Treasuries rose and credit default swaps surged as Dubai’s attempt to delay debt repayments unnerved investors.

European banks like HSBC are most exposed, from the Wall Street Journal:

U.K. banks look the most exposed to Dubai debt worries says Credit Sights, and HSBC and Standard Chartered are estimated to hold half the U.K. total. “Both HSBC and Standard Chartered had previously expressed concerns about weakness in United Arab Emirate economies and property markets, and both reported higher loan loss impairments in the region in 1H ‘09.”

The most interesting twist I’m seeing thus far is that investors are reacting by fleeing gold and reaching for US Dollars. Bet ya didn’t see that one coming! From Reuters:

Gold prices tumbled nearly 5 percent to a one-week low below $1,140 an ounce on Friday as investors fearing debt default in Dubai sought safety in dollars and cash. “It’s mainly driven by this news out of Dubai (which) has had a large impact on risk appetite and resulted in a sharply stronger dollar,” said Daniel Major, a metals analyst at RBS Global Banking & Markets.

STATS: Each Negative Social Media Comment Costs 30 Customers.

Research by Convergys Corp. has shown that a negative customer review on YouTube, Twitter or Facebook can cost a company about 30 customers.

Here’s the math:
Each remark/comment would be viewed by an average of 45 people and about two-third of them would avoid the brand that was being criticized (45 x 2/3 = 30 customers).

We saw how social media has transformed the way we communicate and consume information. Marketing is no longer in a company’s full control. It is now largely dependent on what people say about it; especially with the rise of social media.

You can lose but you can also gain!

30 customers are lost when a company gets a negative comment on social sites. But would a company gain 30 customers if it earns a positive comment instead?

I would probably think so. It just highlights the importance of tracking the social media buzz surrounding your brand.

So what can you do to make sure you are on top of what people are saying about your company on the social media sites. Well aside from searching on each individual social network, a good place to start is by setting up a free and simple tool known as Google Alerts.

Bloomberg declares war on tenure and teachers' union.

On Tuesday it is expected that President Obama will dramatically escalate the war in Afghanistan by sending 30,000 more troops “to finish the job” most Americans don’t believe can be finished.

Yesterday, NY’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg, standing alonside Obama’s Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, dramatically escalated the war on teacher unions. Ignoring the collective bargaining process and the laws of the state of New York, Bloomberg declared that he would act to make test scores the basis for New York public school teachers’ tenure and employment rights.

The NY Times reports:

The Bloomberg administration contends that it already has the power to use test scores in tenure decisions. But, he said that the Legislature should require all districts in the state to evaluate teachers and principals with “data-driven systems,” one of the factors Mr. Duncan will use in deciding which states will receive Race to the Top grants.

The mayor also said the state should allow teacher layoffs based on performance rather than seniority, as they are now. It is a particularly crucial topic now, because the city may face large budget cuts and potential layoffs.

How obvious that even the pro-Bloomberg Times knows that this action by the New York mayor of laying off more experienced and therefore more expensive teachers has more to do with budgets than it does with quality education. Only the union stands in the way of the Bloomberg/Duncan agenda.

And what will the union do?

Michael Mulgrew, the president of the city’s teacher union, said he was “very, very disappointed” in the tone of the mayor’s speech.

He did not rule out filing a lawsuit once the details of the mayor’s plan have been fleshed out.

He said that using the test scores was a poor way to measure teachers, citing criticism that the tests have become too easy, with so many students showing large improvement that they have lost their meaning as gauges of learning.

“How do we constructively fix that instead of saying let’s play political agenda and propaganda?” Mr. Mulgrew asked.

There is a lot more wrong here than just “tone,” and it will take more than a lawsuit to fight this battle. And believe me, this is not just New York’s battle to fight.
