Bloomframe®, the innovative window that morphs magically into a balcony at the touch of a button, is no longer a prototype. The Bloomframe® balcony is now available on the market in The Netherlands. The manufacturer Hurks geveltechniek obtained all the necessary certifications to transform the prototype into a safe and affordable building component. Its dimensions, colour and materials are all fully adaptable and can be custom-designed to complement the facade of new and existing buildings.

Balkons für alle! Das perfekte Gimmick für Freiluft afine City-Bewohner. Gleichzeitig stelle ich mir aber auch die Frage warum man nicht einfach direkt dem Haus einen normalen Balkon verpasst … Wieso einklappen? Nun gut, es macht schon sehr viel her und normale Balkons sind ja sooo 2008.

Dutch designers are amazing.  I want one of these. I don’t have a balcony!

BloomFrame, designed by Amsterdam-based Hofman Dujardin Architects is a window frame that transforms into a balcony with a flip of a switch. It’s been winning lots of award, including the 2009 Wallpaper Design Award for most-life enhancing product.  The BloomFrame is available in a range of sizes, materials, and colors that can be customized.

Apparently the BloomFrame is extremely safe. That would be my one concern—but it looks sturdier than the fire-escape balconies some of my neighbors have.  Watch the video below to see how the BloomFrame works. So cool!

I think it may be so! This crazy neat window turns into a balcony! I can’t even describe how cool this creation is. It originally started off as just a concept and has finally been created and is now called the Bloomframe® balcony, designed by Hofman Dujardin Architects. Check out the pictures and the photos! Now the only thing we have to figure out is how to get people to not look up our skirts when we step out onto our new all glass balcony.

Das Architekturbüro Hofman Dujardin arbeitet schon seit 2002 an der Entwicklung des “Ausklappbalkons” Bloomframe. Bis jetzt existiert nur ein Prototyp, der aber schon großes Aufsehen erregt hat. Unter anderem konnten Hofman Dujardin damit den Red Dot Award für Product Design 2008 einheimsen, und zahlreiche Artikel wurden über den innovativen Klappbalkon verfasst.

Der Bloomframe wäre eine ideale Lösung zum Nachrüsten von vielen Stadthäusern. Im Gegensatz zu einem herkömmlichen Balkon ist der geringere Platzbedarf dabei ein großer Vorteil. Wo ein Fassadenfenster eingebaut werden kann, kann theoretisch auch ein Bloomframe montiert werden.

Für Balkonpflanzen eignet sich der Klappbalkon dafür weniger, denn bei schlechter Witterung muss er hochgezogen werden und leistet dann “nur” als Fenster Dienst. Ich weiß nicht, ob auch gleich ein Regensensor eingebaut wird, aber ein schnelles automatisches Schließen bei beginnendem Niederschlag  könnte sich bei diesem Produkt als praktisch erweisen. Solange keine Möbel hinausgeräumt wurden zumindest…

Durch den Einbau mehrerer Klappbalkone in einem Wohnhaus würden auch interessante optische Akzente entstehen, je nachdem, wieviele und welche Fenster gerade geöffnet sind. Voraussetzung ist natürlich, dass die Statik den Balkon verkraftet.

Geöffnet wird der Bloomframe mittels Elektromotor. An den Seiten klappt sich dabei bei dem Prototypen automatisch ein stabiles Metallgeländer aus. Eine Lösung wie im Bild oben mit Seitenteilen aus Glas wäre reizvoll, ist aber wohl komplizierter umzusetzen und vom Platzbedarf aufwendiger.

Nach Versprechungen für das Frühjahr 2008 wird der Verkaufsstart jetzt für September diesen Jahres angestrebt. Der Preis wird bei etwa 10.000 Euro liegen.

Tja, communities.

Ongemerkt  ben ik blijkbaar toch al actief in een aantal communities: ik zit op Hyves (nog steeds niet fanatiek, want ik heb daar maar weinig vrienden, zo zielig….) en ik ben al een poosje lid van LinkedIn (daar heb ik al wat meer vrienden) en ik ben al jaren actief binnen Moose. Al weet ik niet goed of dat ook een communitie is, er is daar weinig interactie. Af en toe is er een discussie op het forum, daar roer ik me dan vaak ook wel.

Voor de oefening ben ik lid geworden van de 23 dingen Ning. Daar is ook nog weinig actie en daar kan ik zelf weinig aan bijdragen ben ik bang. De dingen waar ik me druk om maak meld ik wel op mijn eigen blog. Ben nog steeds geen lid van de Bibliotheek 2.0 Ning. Weet eigenlijk niet zo goed wat me tegenhoud.

Ik vraag me wel af wat het verschil is tussen ding 19 en ding 17 want dat is wat mij betreft hetzelfde. Of ben ik alleen maar actief in communitieverband als het om Web 2.0 gaat? Ik zie geloof ik wel dat ding 17 breder is dan alleen communities maar het ligt toch erg dicht bij elkaar.

Het youtube filmpje heb ik gekozen omdat het zo’n mooi weer is en ik in mijn nieuwe huis een dakterras heb. Dus ik kan volop van de zon genieten. Maar als dat niet zo was zou dit zeker een optie zijn. Vind het een briljant idee, binnenkort op de markt!

Insta-Balcony! The Bloomframe®

This cool architectural gem (a balcony that folds open with the push of a button in 15 seconds and closes flat to be a window) was created by an architectural firm in Amsterdam named Hofman Dujardin.

It was presented as a prototype at the 2007 International Building and Construction Exhibition in Utrecht Netherlands last week. The design is patented and Bloomframe® is expected to be available for both commercial and private residences later in 2007.
