Hey, guys.  So so sorry for the ridiculous delay.  I was a bit overambitious in thinking I could blog every day (or even every other day) with the time weirdness + all we’ve been squeezing in.  BUT.  Tomorrow is Jessica and I’s first 12 hour bus ride adventure.  12 hours, 22 stops, and lots of Advil later we’ll make it to Melbourne.  Stops that include places like WAGGA WAGGA and THE ROCK.  Now if that doesn’t scream fun and exciting, I don’t know what does…

Plus 12 hours = lots of time to blog…or at least until my laptop battery dies and I get back to some wifi.  Days 4-7 definitely include some travel gems & bloopers I’m excited to share.

¿Qué agregarían ustedes a esta lista?

Tingginya animo masyarakat terhadap sesuatu yang berbau murah ternyata menjadi sasaran empuk para pedagang. Mereka yang secara ‘jor-joran’ memasarkan ‘jualan’nya via media cetak atau pun elektronik tentu serasa mendapat angin segar saat ‘jualan’nya memasuki area yang diminati.

Seperti kemarin pagi, saya disodori iklan yang cukup menggiurkan oleh salah seorang murid saya.

Promosi yang gencar dari murid saya membuat saya jadi turut terprovokasi. Akhirnya dengan semangat ‘45 yang membahana, keesokan paginya (25 November 2009. Pukul 09.00 WIB) saya sudah ‘nangkring’ di pelataran Plaza Indonesia. Dan benar saja, event yang harusnya dimulai pukul 11.00 WIB ternyata sudah digumuli oleh orang-orang dari berbagai daerah seantero jabodetabek.

Pukul 09.30 WIB saya dan murid saya sudah mulai memasuki antrean. Sayangnya, harapan saya untuk dapat mengantre secara teratur ternyata meleset jauh.

Bahkan, puluhan orang yang sebelumnya tengah berunjuk rasa di bunderan HI turut ambil bagian dalam acara ini.

Pukul 09.55 WIB saya memutuskan untuk STOP dan mengakhiri petualangan saya hari itu. Medan yang berundak (karena posisi berada di tangga) dan tidak stabil karena dasyatnya desakan membuat saya mengibarkan bendera putih dan menepi ke daratan. Fffiuuuhhh….. whatta crowd!

Catatan yang berisi daftar pesanan teman-teman (termasuk pesanan KACAB yang dengan ikhlas mengizinkan saya untuk masuk siang-dia juga nitip soalnya… Bhahaaa! ) terpaksa hanya saya pandangi saja. Sementara, murid saya yang (mungkin) memang hobi berdesak-desakan terus mengantri berjam-jam hingga pukul 15.00 WIB. Dan kau tau kawan? Hasilnya nihil!!. Dia hanya di oper kesana kemari dari basement 1 ke basement 2 dan yang lainnya. Berita terakhir yang saya dengar, keributan terjadi karena calon pembeli tidak sabar menunggu. Mereka berdesak-desakan dan sampai pukul-pukulan antarpembeli. Ada juga  kejar-mengejar antara pembeli dengan penjual karena saat panitia keluar membawa tiga dus berisi ponsel Nexian, calon pembeli merangsek dan berebut. Panitia yang merasa kewalahan pun berusaha menyelamatkan diri. Tapi, mereka dikejar dan dipukul para pembeli hingga ke Jalan MH Thamrin.  [http://www.tempointeraktif.com/]. Sangat disesalkan bukan? Harusnya kondisi semacam ini dapat diantisipasi sebelumnya oleh pihak terkait hingga tidak merugikan orang lain.

Yeaah… Akhirnya saya pun pulang!! Eehh…. Gak deng, Ke kantor!! Membuat laporan pandangan mata sama bu KACAB..

Dadaaaahhhhhh….. Bersyukur sangat saya tidak berlama-lama disana. Alhamdulillah… I won’t be easily provoked anymore!!!

Seks,seks de wereld staat er krom van,dus het is niet gek als er tijdens het liefdes spel eens iets mis is,zo getuigd het verhaal op Ze.nl en op vele momenten kan het best schaamtevol zijn maar nadien moet je er vaak om lachen,een echte blooper..Een standje uit proberen en dan plots met z’n twee door de salontafel vallen,dat kan pijnlijk zijn,maar er gebeuren ook leuke dingen,laat jij ons mee lachen en zet je je blooper hier op “leave a comment” HAve fun.

Antes que todo, gracias por la playera, ya está en proceso de envío, les estaré mandando fotos con ella. Pero tengo otro motivo por el cual les escribo.

Estaba viendo el programa de Brozo el viernes por la noche, El Notifiero, y me llamaron la atención dos detalles curiosos:

• 1) En el tendedero, salió una imagen de Trish Stratus y otra chica (no se quien sea)
• 2) El look del Padre Melo, personaje de un cura que hace reportajes para Brozo, se parece al de Tyson Kidd de la Hart Dinasty

Por eso, se me ocurrió aportar esto para una nota de la categoría Bloopers con el título “El Notifiero y la WWE”. Les mando las fotos para que las usen en caso de que les guste mi aporte

Without further ado:

The Good: Ford

I love the simultaneous emotional and rational appeal. I recently read a study that supports a long held hypothesis of mine. “EMOTIONAL ADS WORK”

With that said, you still have to be able to compete with rival brands on the essentials of the product.

I love the way Ford trucks are portrayed as a really good teammate and not a labor saving device. The spots are memorable, informative and evocative.

Kind of makes me want a Canyonero.

The Bad: Ram

What sells trucks?

Postmodern poetry right?

Wait.

That’s not it.

I like this commercial from an aesthetic point of view but I don’t think this is going to sell trucks.

Also, their free verse, or whatever that is, sucks.

The Ugly: Chevy

If you are going to hitch your wagon to a song, it better be a really effing good song.

John Melloncamp doesn’t make good songs, so this project was doomed in the womb.

To make matters worse Chevy over exposed these ads so much that they actually started getting lampooned by sports writers.

Waste of celluloid.

Si todavía no han visto este video, está muy recomendable. El portero Jurgen Sierens del SV Roeselare detiene un tiro con las piernas, pero “algo” pasa y termina pateando el balón hacia su portería.

Fue en el partido del mencionado equipo contra el Anderlecht, donde este último ganó 2-0 (con ayuda del portero, obviamente).

“Hacked” emails may shed new light on scientific community

I’ve had a busy day today helping shop for Christmas, primarily with “Junior” in mind and also doing some heavy processing of pictures of an engine bay from a large motor, but I had not intended to make a post today. However the revelations over the past few days about the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) and the “hacked” emails prompted me to take a look around the mainstream media and the other local environmental blogs in South Shields to try and find out what all the fuss was about.

Essentially the CRU appears to have been at the least complicit in an underhand campaign to modify data to suit the climate change agenda, and the scenario plays nicely into the hands of the sceptics who are more used by now to being labelled deniers. Without any great surprise I learn that the BBC treats the story as any other sort of data loss news and quickly relegated it down the pages and buried it, likewise The Times, and The Guardian quickly found someone to turn the tables by Sunday.

I am admittedly one of those still waiting to be wholly and fully convinced that any global warming is primarily caused by the human race burning fossil fuels and overloading the upper atmosphere with greenhouse gases, I too am sceptical that a new quasi religion has spread throughout the western liberal world and found an ideal way to raise additional taxation to spend as politicians please, and more to the point blame us for causing them to do it. I am one who wonders why contrary arguments are derided as though they were propounded by heretics and that scientists with alternate theories over global temperature change cannot find ways to have their work peer reviewed, or are removed from committees and symposiums as though they are suffering from leprosy.

Little wonder then that this particular story is being quickly dropped by the mainstream media and television stations in particular, if the released emails are genuine, and so far nobody has made a firm denial that they are, then it would be appropriate as former Chancellor Lord Lawson suggests today that a fully independent inquiry into the climate change methodologies used by British scientists should be launched immediately.

Astonishingly, what appears, at least at first blush, to have emerged is that (a) the scientists have been manipulating the raw temperature figures to show a relentlessly rising global warming trend; (b) they have consistently refused outsiders access to the raw data; (c) the scientists have been trying to avoid freedom of information requests; and (d) they have been discussing ways to prevent papers by dissenting scientists being published in learned journals.

There may be a perfectly innocent explanation. But what is clear is that the integrity of the scientific evidence on which not merely the British government, but other countries, too, through the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, claim to base far-reaching and hugely expensive policy decisions, has been called into question. And the reputation of British science has been seriously tarnished. A high-level independent inquiry must be set up without delay.

Healthy reasoned debate needs to take place between the scientists and the politicians in an effort to ascertain finally whether or not there is a real consensus or whether it was always bogus. James Delingpole at The Daily Telegraph has already stuck his neck out and started a discussion calling it “Climategate (yuk) how the MSM reported the greatest scandal in modern science”, and had a further 400 odd contributors in this article. Iain Dale was one of those who started the ball rolling in the blogosphere and he has linked to Devil’s Kitchen where there is a mass of posts about the CRU affair including news that the Tax Payers Alliance is to report the University of East Anglia’s CRU to the Information Commissioner for what appears to be a deliberate attempt to breach the Freedom of Information Act.

Steve McIntyre the renowned climate change sceptic says in this post that the biggest loser is science itself and that the “peer review” system can no longer be trusted:

The next global warming believer who raises “peer review” as a defence of global warming deserves to be metaphorically tarred and feathered and laughed at for the rest of his or her natural life.

In a separate post he revealed that:

The director of Britain’s leading Climate Research Unit, Phil Jones, has told Investigate magazine’s TGIF Edition tonight that his organization has been hacked, and the data flying all over the internet appears to be genuine.

In an exclusive interview, Jones told TGIF, “It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails.”

So we know that the emails were genuine, and that data has been amended, that FOI requests have been interfered with and results skewed or even deleted, journals have been destroyed and sceptical scientists have had their university affiliations denied, and these are just at the tip of a very large iceberg!

So wanting to know how South Shields environmental activists were reacting to the “death of science” this weekend, I went in search of comment at Tyne Dock Green, Rossinisbird, Shirley Ford, and the South Tyneside Green Party, sadly they haven’t found time to address the issue. However, I ought to reiterate what some in the climate change camp are saying, and that is that the hacked emails do not in themselves prove any conspiracy exists, and that the scientists are not proven to be in the pay of some multi-national secretive group driving a hidden agenda. I do say though, that what they do reveal is a real need for more openness and honesty with public and politicians, and a methodology which plays directly into the hands of those who are yet to be convinced.

I am not surprised in the least that this has not become the major news story over the weekend, after all a climate disaster that breaks bridges in Cumbria is far more important than a few scientists fiddling the figures used by politicians to raise revenues all over the western world. Nor am I surprised that the new spin on the story is all about the ethics and legality of the release of the emails – funny there were no such responses when emails were leaked from politicians surrounding the Prime Minister, politicians are fair game scientists and academics apparently are not.

Once in a while CNN graphics would put the Czech Republic next to Iraq (see below), or France…etc. But it seems like Czech media have problems of their own, too, especially when they use news agencies mindlessly, without “reading” them:

Dear readers,

“Nine” looks incredible, especially the visual aspect of it, because really, what can you find out from a movie trailer but the basic plot and how good a movie looks?

I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that the man who made this is going to make PotC 4. It’s a pick that’s seemingly out of nowhere, but makes me hopeful (and apprehensive).

Plus, PotC fans are so used to Gore Verbinski, especially on the special features. “Same thing only better please.” We’ll miss him for sure.

P.P.S. A comment on imdb points out that it may be difficult for Marshall to have the same enthusiasm and dedication as Verbinski did to the series. I can see their point – the original cast and crew was there from the beginning, back when it was not expected to make much money. It seemed like a family committed to an insane, impossible project.  Now that its turned into a franchise behemoth, it is kind of difficult imagining Rob Marshall having that same blind enthusiasm that Gore Verbinski had.
