Saat ini, penggunaan handphone tidak hanya sebatas alat komunikasi saja, melainkan juga difungsikan sebagai modem pada komputer/laptop untuk mengakses internet.

Terdapat 3 perangkat/komponen yang di butuhkan agar komputer/laptop anda bisa terhubung ke dalam dunia maya/internet :

1. Komputer / laptop

2. Media perantara, dapat berupa kabel data, bluetooth, dan infrared.

3. Handphone (3G
recomended) yang mendukung salah satu dari ketiga media perantara di atas.

Konfigurasi Koneksi Internet Pada Komputer

Pertama yang harus anda lakukan adalah menghubungkan Handphone anda ke komputer / laptop melalui kabel data terus lakukan pengaturan koneksi internet pada komputer / laptop anda. Langkahnya sebagai berikut :

1. pada komputer anda, di bagian kontrol panel, klik icon phone and modem option.

2. akan keluar dialog yang meminta anda untuk memasukkan data informasi lokasi.

Berikut kolom yang wajib di isi ;

- kolom pertanyaan lokasi isi sesuai selera anda. (Misal : location 1)

- kolom kewarganegaraan kamu

- pilih pulse dialing pada pertanyaan the phone systemat the location uses.

Terus tekan OK

3. Pilih tab modem dan pilih modem yang ingin anda gunakan. Jika kabel data anda sudah terinstal di komputer, secara otomatis handphone anda akan kelihatan dalam list modem. Pilih modem yang anda gunakan kemudian klik tombol properties.

4. pilih tab advanced, kemudian isikan commands / perintah berikut :

AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”APN”

misal : kartu sim anda im3 berarti anda harus nenulis AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”indosatgprs” (indosatgprs adalah nama APN untuk sim card im3)

5. kembali ke komputer anda, klik 2 kali icon network connection pada control panel.

6. pilih create a new connection, kemudian akan muncul wizard untuk mengatur koneksi internet. Klik tombol next.

7. pilih connect to the internet, lalu klik tombol next.

8. pilih set up my connection manually, lalu klik tombol next.

9. pilih connect using a dial-up modem, lalu klik tombol next.

10. pilih modem yang anda gunakan

11. masukkan ISP name. (tulis sesuai selera anda)

12. isi nomor akses sesuai tabel di atas. Misal kartu anda im3, anda harus ketik *99***1# terus klik next

13. isikan parameter username dan password sesuai tabel diatas

14. pengaturan koneksi internet telah selesai, kemudian klik tombol finish

15. akan keluar dialog untuk mengaktifkan koneksi jaringan internet. Klik tombol dial.

16. akan muncul dialog proses dial-up

17. jika koneksi berhasil, akan muncul pesan pada taskbar kanan bawah yang bergambar 2 buah monitor. Apabila gambar 2 buah monitor tersebut menyala semua berarti anda dapat langsung menikmati koneksi internet melalui browser komputer seperti IE, mozilla, dan masih banyak lagi.

18. untuk mengakhiri koneksi internet, klik kanan icon komputer pada taskbar kanan bawah, kemudian pilih disconnect

19. ketika melakukan pengaturan, secara otomatis terbentuk icon dial-up pada dekstop, sehingga ketika anda ingin melakukan koneksi kembali dapat langsung klik 2 kali icon tersebut.

Sabe aquele pequeno detalhe que facilita bastante sua vida? Prazer, este é o pequeno adaptador USB Bluetooth.

Quem trabalha com computadores portáteis, sejam netbooks ou notebooks, como no meu caso, sabe o que é precisar carregar junto ao computador uma série de outros gadiguetes; na dúvida, acabamos carregando tralhas demais.

Um dos itens que nunca deixei de carregar era o cabo para conexão com o celular. Quando ainda não existia o 3G, ou eu ainda não tinha um celular com o recurso, o cabo servia para transferir músicas ou baixar as fotos que tirava durante o trajeto para o trabalho. Com a evolução e queda de preços dos celulares, ficou mais fácil ter um com mais recursos. Só o problema do cabo continuava.

Foi então que resolvi comprar, no site DealExtreme, o pequeno adaptador. Vendo o conector dá pra ter noção do quanto ele é pequeno, ficando somente uma pequena "protuberância" na USB. O acabamento, apesar de constar como o único ponto fraco, não deixa a desejar para os ínfimos US$ 3 que paguei por ele.

Ao plugá-lo, tanto o Windows XP do notebook como o Ubuntu linux do meu desktop deram conta de reconhecê-lo sem pedir minha ajuda. Como o gadiguete não veio com softwares, apenas as funções básicas de enviar e receber arquivos estavam disponíveis pelo sistema operacional, mas existem uma infinidade de programas disponíveis na Internet para acrescentar mais funcionalidades. Não foi problema pra mim, que sempre tive maior interesse em manter o celular conectado com o computador para utilizar seus softwares e todas as suas funções.

Graças a ele, o velho cabo do celular fica agora constantemente plugado no hub usb do meu desktop, também comprado no DealExtreme.

In the middle of nowhere and can’t use your mobile phone?

Well, finally, the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries - Ofcom – has published a discussion document to explore the potential of a new technology that could wirelessly link up different devices and offer enhanced broadband access in rural areas.

The technology works by searching for unoccupied radio waves – called white spaces – between television channels to transmit and receive wireless signals. Compared with other forms of wireless technology, such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, white space devices are being designed to use lower frequencies that have traditionally been reserved for tv.

Signals at these frequencies travel further and more easily through walls.

This will potentially allow a new wave of technological innovation in wireless communications. Although at least three years away from commercial production, possible applications include:

• Improved mobile broadband access in rural areas
• Digital cameras that can automatically transmit photos back to your computer as soon as you click the shutter
• The ability to control appliances in your home – such as the oven and central heating – hundreds of miles away.

However, white space devices must first prove they can operate without interfering with tv broadcasts and other wireless technologies that share these frequencies, such as wireless microphones. A promising solution is for devices to do this is by consulting a geolocation database that contains live information about which frequencies are free to use at their current location.

Ofcom’s discussion document focuses on the issues that need to be addressed for this solution to work. If there is strong evidence to show that white space devices can coexist with neighbouring tv signals and wireless microphones without causing interference, then Ofcom would allow them to use the frequencies without the need for individual licences.

However, this technology remains largely unproven and a significant amount of work needs to be done before these claims can be tested.

The purpose of Ofcom’s discussion document is to further the thinking that is taking place around the world on geolocation and speed the development of possible solutions.

I’ve got a bluetooth dongle connected to a Windows XP machine that I wish to use with Stereo Bluetooth headphones. The audio works fine. It is the remote control functionality that I have issues with:

• If I play a CD using the old version of Windows Media Player that comes with XP, no problem at all. I can pause the track, go to the next/previous tracks all using the controls on the bluetooth headphones.
• This same functionality does not work with iTunes, nor the Zune software, nor any flash player on a website.

I want to use an app (iTunes or Zune, or perhaps some other) to play podcasts around the house and the pause function would be most helpful. But so far no luck.

I wonder if I am doing something wrong or that is just the way it is…

1000 of kids were feeding, playing and killing them everyday and now they are back! The Tamagotchi!

The new Tamagotchi ID from Bandai actually looks exactly like the old one, with the difference that it is equipped with a 1.44 inch colour screen. You will be able to purchase it from the 23^rd of November on only in Japan for a price of 38 euros. They will be available in six different colours: pink, blue, white, yellow, green and purple. On top of that they’ve got a great feature: You can by new accessories, rare items and mini games over your cell phone and transfer them via infra-red to your Tamagotchi.

I think it’s a fantastic idea, but what cellphone still supports infra-red? What about Bluetooth or WiFi? I think Bandai overslept the trend. Specially in Japan where they have the latest generation of cellphones I really doubt that there are a lot of cellphones left with infra-red.

Our cellphones are powerful enough to play any kind of simulation and there are all sorts of games you can by just for a few euros. What’s the point of buying a Tamagotchi?

Bandai probably focuses on children and therefore it’s ok. Kids are going to be happy with this product, specially now that your pet is in colour. If you want to get a few more informations about these cute little pets you should read this article.

My whole week so far has just been working and sleeping. Gosh, I feel so unmotivated to check back to the 500+ posts in my subscriptions…

But, then I felt so much more motivated when Bee got me this Apple Magic Mouse!!! Its smooth, slim and sexy, and most importantly it works as good as it looks! (Unlike its predecessor Mighty Mouse, which was far far less than ‘mighty’. )

The design is so simple that it seems hardly anything could go wrong; no more dust trapped in trackballs!!

At this point in time, Apple Magic Mouse is not windows compatible, though there will probably be some kind of software for it later which will make it compatible.

Tip: After syncing the mouse to your Mac in the bluetooth device setup, go do a software update before you can actually configure the mouse in System Preferences. I was so excited that I skipped the instructions – bad idea.

Bee got me the Targus Bluetooth mouse only a month ago, but he couldn’t resist this one for me XD Thank you!!! No more bashing the mighty mouse like a crazy person cos its going straight into cupboard!

Next is installing Snow Leopard on MBP to make it run better hopefully. I feel like my darling MBP quite exhausted as its running a little slower than before. Maybe I just need to give it a thorough clean-out when I have some time.

Hmmmm what Mac product will I get next?? iMac 27″ perhaps ?? teeeheeee!

Stichting Monkey Business heeft met succes een Bluetooth Marketing campagne ingezet om haar doelen te promoten bij de bezoekers van de beurs Kloos Vintage in de Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.

Monkey Business heeft als doelstelling om het uitsterven van de Oeran Oetan te voorkomen en om het tropisch regenwoud te beschermen. De laatste circa 6.000 Oeran Oetans dreigen uit te sterven, doordat tropisch regenwoud in hun leefgebieden op Borneo en Sumatra verdwijnt.

De stichting streeft ernaar om in Nederland bewustwording te creëren voor het probleem, mensen ‘monkey proof’ te laten leven en door geld in te zamelen om beschermingsprojecten op Sumatra te financieren.
