En teoría significa que se han puesto de acuerdo para simular que todo va bien y que es posible avanzar.  No se sabe hacia dónde. Todo es un espectáculo. En realidad se han puesto de acuerdo en las cuantías y las partidas que va a gestionar cada uno de los subvencionados de las arcas públicas.

Yesterday I introduced Canterbury Museum’s replica of the famous Paua Shell House of the small South Island town of Bluff. (Check out the post below). Today, you get to see Fred and Myrtle Flutey’s house from the inside! The interior was painstakingly reproduced as closely as possible to the original – constructed to scale, with as many items from the original Buff house as possible installed – including the carpet. The paua shells themselves are on loan to the museum for a period of 10 years. I was touched by the numerous awards on the walls, mantle and furniture commending Fred and Myrtle for their hospitality and their contribution to tourism. You surely would have to be a real “people person” to open your home to strangers seven days a week! I highly recommend clicking on the image in order to see the details more clearly.

This is the late Fred and Myrtle Flutey’s “Paua Shell House” from 258 Marine Parade, Bluff – now replicated approximately 600 kilometers north of it’s original location in the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch. Inside, the original paua* shells are shown off exactly as they were in Fred and Myrtle’s real house. The famous house in Bluff was open to visitors for 8 hours a day, seven days a week and received about a million visitors over 31 years. According to the video presentation, Myrtle “loved the company”. Tomorrow I will post some photos from inside.

* Paua is a univalve shellfish that feeds on seaweed and lives in rocky, coastal areas at depths of one to fifteen metres. The blackfoot paua (Haliotis iris) with its spectacular blue/green/purple iridescent shell is unique to New Zealand. The meat is a delicacy, and the shell is traditionally used in Maori carvings to illumine the eyes. It is also used in jewelry and art work.

Questo è un libro contro i dogmi. Perchè al di là di quanto è successo, degli strumenti che hanno provocato la crisi planetaria, l’indagine davvero utile è quella che cerca di capire i motivi, li chiamerei addirittura filosofici, che stanno dietro la creazione di strumenti sofisticati che hanno scatenato il crollo prima dei mercati e poi dell’economia reale. Di dogmi che si sono rivelati disastrosi che stanno alla base della crisi sono 4 ma mi soffermerò in particolare su uno e su una premessa.

La premessa parte dall’illuminismo ottocentesco quando si iniziano a standardizzare le regole economiche dopo aver standardizzato il sapere. In quel momento nasce l’economia come scienza naturale nella quale i fenomeni che la compongono, che le danno vita, possono essere riprodotti a piacere in laboratorio. Da qui nasce la premessa ideologica della finanza e da qui nascono le regole matematiche della finanza, perché la finanza sono formule e i matematici sono i veri finanzieri. I prodotti sofisticati che hanno portato al collasso delle borse e degli scambi tra le banche non sono altro che formule matematiche nelle quali dato un prezzo al verificarsi di alcuni venti prevedibili si ha un altro prezzo a sua volta corretto da altri eventi anch’essi prevedibili e da altri prezzi legati all’andamento di un mercato come quello delle valute che in genere ha scarse oscillazioni. Tutti questi rapporti sono regolati da formule matematiche che possono prevedere tutto ma lo nascondono, lo hanno nascosto, agli occhi di chi ha sottoscritto questi strumenti finanziari. In questo senso la sofisticatezza è stata un mezzo per la truffa. Ma la sofisticatezza ha anche permesso la nascita di un nuovo tipo di banchiere, quello che io chiamo “banchiere 2.0”, è colui che non si assume il rischio del credito, ma lo distribuisce ad altri diventando irresponsabile di fronte alla possibilità che il debitore non paghi. Quindi la premessa che ha portato a ciò che stiamo vivendo è la concezione dell’economia come interamente regolata da leggi naturali e non da scienze sociali. L’abbaglio è stato così travolgente che è nata una classe di economisti che ha avuto, che ha, più a cuore il mercato, pensando che dal suo corretto funzionamento gli uomini ne avrebbero tratto i maggiori benefici. Siccome il mercato efficiente dà benefici alle persone, allora occorre rendere il mercato il più efficiente possibile in modo da far ottenere alle persone il massimo dei benefici. Così il centro della preoccupazione degli economisti è stato il mercato e il centro dell’azione dei governi è diventato il mercato e tutti si sono dimenticati della persona. Gli errori drammatici che le organizzazioni internazionali hanno fatto nei Paesi in via di sviluppo derivano proprio dall’idea che una volta che il mercato funziona, gli uomini ne traggono beneficio. Solo che è stato esportato un solo tipo di mercato in tutto il mondo.

Torniano ai dogmi.

Il primo è quello della crescita. Ovvero l’idea che un Paese che non cresce più di quanto non sia cresciuto l’anno precedente è un Paese che sta attraversando gravi problemi economici. In questo modo il Pil è diventato da semplice indicatore a feticcio al quale tutto va sacrificato, compresa la qualità della vita. Non è importante, infatti, solo la crescita, ma anche la sua qualità. Se un Paese non cresce più dell’anno precedente, e non lo fa in modo consistente, allora si induce la crescita con due strumenti. I tassi bassi e il debito. Nelle grandi banche americane si faceva carriera non in base alla qualità del credito erogato, ma alla quantità.

Il secondo dogma è quello dell’innovazione finanziaria. Occorre essere chiari: esistono strumenti finanziari creati appositamente per truffare meglio il cliente. Esiste una innovazione buona e una innovazione cattiva e spesso nel settore finanziario l’innovazione è cattiva. L’innovazione è cattiva quando trasforma un debito in un  credito, un prestito in un derivato e via dicendo. Questi strumenti sono stati non solo sopportati ma addirittura incentivati, e poi non controllati dalle autorità di vigilanza, perchè erano funzionali al primo dogma, quello della crescita per debito.

Il terzo dogma, che oggi non ha più nessun sostenitore, è quello della perfezione dei mercati ovvero l’idea che possa esistere un mercato nel quale tutti hanno lo stesso grado di informazione e se tutti hanno lo stesso grado di informazione i prezzi che si formano su quel mercato sono “giusti”. In realtà tutti sapevano che questo mercato non poteva esistere, ma ci si tendeva, si diceva che era possibile crearlo.

Il quarto dogma è quello schumpeteriano della forza distruttrice e creatrice del mercato. Ovvero l’idea che un’azienda, una banca, che viene lasciata fallire sarà sostituita da una più efficiente. Questo vale quando si tratta di una banca, ma quando l’intero sistema collassa, il dogma schumpetriano si rivela un disastro.

Ma il doma sul quale occorre soffermarsi di più è quello che più di tutti gli altri ha impedito agli economisti di vedere ciò che stava succedendo, ciò che si stava muovendo nella società e nel mondo. Si tratta del dogma del “modello” che io ritengo il più pericoloso. Il “modello”, nella su forma più sofisticata, consiste in una formula matematica nella quale si suppone che il cambiamento di un fattore dia un risultato perfettamente conseguente. Il modello funziona in modo meccanico. I modelli sono fondamentali, utilissimi per cercare di immaginare il futuro, quello che può accadere all’economia se, ad esempio, sale l’inflazione o se cresce la retribuzione media. Ma non può essere l’unico sistema interpretativo e previsionale della realtà, non ci si può affidare al modello per capire la realtà e per prevederla. Facciamo un esempio di modello. Il modello afferma, nella sua forma più semplice, che se in una regione, diciamo l’Emilia Romagna, il Pil cala in un dato periodo, diciamo nel 2008, del 3%, allora vuol dire che la ricchezza di quella regione è più bassa del 3% rispetto all’anno precedente, e che quindi le industrie di quella regione, sono meno ricche, in media, del 3%. Fedeli a questo modello, le banche, magari non di questa regione, magari nemmeno nazionali, hanno più difficoltà a erogare il credito in quell’area perché il Pil dice che in quell’area l’economia è più debole e quindi maggiore è il rischio che chi ottiene il credito non lo restituisca. Quindi un imprenditore, non importa se sono 100 anni che lavora, non importa che non abbia mai mancato una rata del mutuo, non importa nulla, avrà più difficoltà ad accedere al credito bancario.

C’è quindi una cosa, un fattore, un particolare di cui il modello non tiene conto ed è, come direbbe Graham Greene, il fattore umano, cioè c’è l’uomo. Il Pil non è un numero, è la somma della fatica del lavoro degli uomini. Il Pil è l’indicatore grezzo della volontà, dell’entusiasmo, della creatività, del desiderio di costruire, della voglia di appartenere, della forza e dell’entusiasmo degli imprenditori e della loro comunità di riferimento: clienti, dipendenti, fornitori. Questo è il Pil il quale non misura la qualità dei rapporti tra le persone, la qualità che è una cosa altrettanto importante della quantità. Il modello non può calcolare la qualità e si concentra sulla quantità, l’ideologia del gigantismo a tutti i costi fa il resto.

Il modello presuppone un andamento coerente dei fattori che lo compongono ma non funziona così perchè l’uomo è un soggetto che ha il vizio di non comportarsi mai in modo perfettamente razionale e, quindi, prevedibile. Noi facciamo delle cose che, secondo gli economisti dei modelli sono del tutto irrazionali. Non è assolutamente razionale che, ad esempio, la famiglia, in Italia, sia il centro del nostro modo di intendere la vita. Recentemente sul Sole 24Ore Alberto Alesina e Andrea Ichino hanno scritto che se l’Italia è arretrata, non esiste la meritocrazia, non c’è mobilità sociale, non esiste il cosmopolitismo la colpa è la struttura famigliare coniugata con la religione unica, cristiana. Non è una esagerazione, lo hanno scritto davvero, giovedì 29 ottobre in prima pagina. La famiglia e la religione unica sono un ostacolo alla realizzazione del modello di società che si ha in mente. Togliete la famiglia e la religione unica e il modello di un’Italia modernizzata si realizzerà senza dubbio. Ora, a parte il fatto che se l’Italia è ancora in piedi lo si deve proprio alla famiglia, alla sua rete di protezione sociale, alla sua capacità di risparmio, questo è quello che intendono gli economisti per modello. Non è razionale nemmeno che io sia qui perchè è tardi, vengo da Milano, dopo una giornata di lavoro, a parlare di un libro del quale probabilmente non venderò nemmeno una copia. Secondo i modelli degli economisti io non dovrei essere qui. Ma dovrei essere a casa a guardare la partita.

Torniamo al nostro esempio: l’imprenditore va in banca a chiedere il credito. Il fattore umano in questo caso, è la storia di quell’azienda, è la faccia di quell’uomo. Quanto valgono i calli che ha sulle mani? Quanto valgono le rughe che la fatica gli ha scavato sulla faccia? Impossibile da calcolare con un modello. Impossibile. Quei calli e quelle rughe non rientrano dentro un modello preconfezionato eppure gli economisti hanno inventato Basilea2 che è la negazione dell’umano. Basilea 2 è esattamente un modello che dice che in base al numero di dipendenti che hai, il fatturato che produci, i clienti che hai l’utile che hai, hai “diritto” ad un certo livello di prestito. Non di più non di meno. Vedete: il modello prende numeri per elaborare altri numeri, per elaborare altri numeri. Il fattore umano da Basilea2 è totalmente assente. Ma quanto vale quella volontà dell’uomo? Quanto vale? Chi lo sa dire? Nessuno. Se non un altro uomo. Il credito è un rapporto, non un numero. Il lavoro è un rapporto, non un fatturato. Solo un altro uomo è in grado di stabilire quanto credito, quanta fiducia merita un altro uomo. Questo, però, è un processo non standardizzabile perchè gli economisti ragionano per standard. Quindi si è eliminato l’uomo dall’economia, si fa fuori il fattore umano. Come? Gli strumenti derivati sono esattamente questo, sono un attacco alla persona.

Cerco di spiegarvi perchè. Da sempre il banchiere, i primi banchieri del mondo sono stati i tmplari, il banchiere è colui che presta denaro assumendosi il rischio che non gli venga restituito. E’ sempre stato così. A un certo momento entra in campo una teoria, la teoria della diversificazione del rischio di credito. Ovvero siccome non è possibile standardizzare questo processo, non rientra dentro un modello, inventiamo degli strumenti che servono per vendere a qualcun altro il rischio che il banchiere si assume quando concede un prestito. Concede, cioè, il prestito, e poi vende il rischio che non gli venga restituito ad altri soggetti. Luigi Zingales, uno dei più brillanti economisti italiani, che scrive sul Sole e sull’Espresso ed è un economista fortemente in ascesa negli ambienti repubblicani americani, è l’ideologo di questa teoria. Ha dato copertura ideologica ai derivati sostenendo che se il rischio viene distribuito su diversi soggetti i pericoli di una crisi sistemica diminuiscono e tanto più è largo questo sistema, tanto meno rischi il mondo corre. Così il mercato dei derivati si è espanso fino a superare il Pil che il mondo produce in un anno. Lo ripeto: ha superato il Pil che il mondo produce in un anno. Il crollo dell’economia del mondo è stata causata non dalla mancanza di etica, dai superbonus, dai paradisi fiscali, ma è stata causata dall’eliminazione del fattore umano dal processo economico. Hanno voluto togliere di mezzo l’uomo e si sono ritrovati con la crisi peggiore dal ‘29. Hanno tolto la fiducia dall’economia. Oggi io mi rendo conto che se dico ai miei amici banchieri di Milano guarda che tu ti devi fidare di quella persona, ce la fa, sostienila, non è un conta balle, mi rinchiuderebbero, chiamerebbero il 113, farei la fine di un pazzo che crede all’esistenza dei marziani su Plutone. Zingales ha scritto un libro intitolato “Salvare il capitalismo dai capitalisti”: vuol dire, tradotto, eliminate l’uomo e salvate il modello. Togliete di mezzo l’uomo con le sue contraddizioni e il modello funzionerà. La tendenza è quella di eliminare il fattore umano dall’economia.

Uno di coloro che ragionano in termini di etica, parola che io traduco, appunto, in fattore umano, è il ministro dell’Economia Giulio Tremonti. Quando ha detto che per fare il banchiere occorre avere etica, ovvero, occorre considerare il fattore umano, Giavazzi sul Corriere della Sera gli ha risposto: “Non sapevo che la sharia facesse parte della legge bancaria italiana”. Il fattore umano non deve esistere, non deve essere considerato. Il fattore umano semplicemente deve essere fatto fuori.

Ciò non vuol dire nel modo più assoluto che una banca deve dare credito a chiunque si presenti con le mani callose, significa che tu devi considerare anche quello. Solo che i calli non rientrano in un modello. Allora lo eliminiamo. Il dogma del modello è la morte dell’uomo.

Ma se un’impresa rientra all’interno dei parametri del modello di Basilea2, l’imprenditore che ottiene il credito, è un vero imprenditore o è un truffatore? Ciò è del tutto indifferente: basta che rientri nel modello. Ecco perchè i modelli sbagliano perchè non si fanno domande. Il dogma dei modelli è quello che informa tutta l’economia occidentale. Tutta l’economia occidentale si basa su dei modelli. Tutta. Io credo che il nostro compito sia quello di creare pezzi di società che non rispondono a dei modelli. Occorre ribellarsi a partire da ciò che noi chiamiamo fattore umano e che Tremonti chiama etica. Il Papa in questo ci sostiene perchè nella sua Caritas in Veritate, citando una frase chiave della Centesimus Annus, spiega che «la libertà nel settore dell’economia deve inquadrarsi in un solido contesto giuridico che la metta al servizio della libertà umana integrale, una libertà responsabile il cui centro è etico e religioso». Non esiste alcuna libertà senza etica e senza religione. E non esiste l’agire economico senza la libertà. Significa che l’etica, che io mi sono permesso di tradurre con l’espressione “fattore umano” non è un corollario dell’economia, ma ne è il suo motore. Non esiste, in altre parole, nessuna ordinata crescita economica e del benessere collettivo che non tenga conto dell’etica, cioè, del fattore umano.

Fears potentially sickness-inducing sewage is flowing from Bluff’s storm water system and into Morrison’s Beach will be um, poo-pooed by a top ranking city council official.

Southern Squall understands drainage manager Malcolm Loan is poised to tell the Bluff Community Board that there’s no evidence of undue poo in the town’s stormwater pipes.

Mr Loan will say weekly tests found no more faecal contamination than experienced from urban stormwater drains elsewhere in New Zealand.

Samples of hill and urban flows and contamination consistent with what would be expected from bird and animal sources. There’s no indication of sewerage entering the stormwater drains, he’ll say next week.

All this comes after contamination lead the medical officer of health to close the beach and the council to erect warning signs.

It also follows board members and Environment Southland staff (oh, and us) worrying that the contamination might be linked to an official report which suggested some of the town’s pipes were misconnected.

Mr Loan said in September that such fears were unfounded, and that to be worried about the state of outflows to Morrison’s Beach was to be worried about heaps of other beaches in Southland.

Well, after weeks of testing, we hope there’s nothing to worry about, anywhere.

In the past few days, I’ve heard many people talking about deception and liars. So, when I stumbled upon this site today, I thought I’d post it.  It’s an article that tells you how to spot a liar from a site called Blifallo.com (“Boredom relief- stimulate your brain with games, puzzles…”).

Not only is this info useful in real life personal and business situations, it’s helpful in poker. I know a famous professional poker player who uses some of the same techniques below to decide if his opponents are bluffing or not.

No es sabio mentirle a oponentes débiles que pagan cualquier apuesta; estos jugadores son llamados “estaciones de pago”. Este es un error muy común, por eso debes estar seguro de que el otro jugador es lo suficientemente hábil como para saber cuando retirarse.
Numero de oponentes:
Generalmente, no es buena idea hacer un bluff contra tres o más jugadores, particularmente en limit poker. Un bluff tiene más posibilidades de funcionar cuando se usa contra un solo jugador. La razón no es el hecho de que haya un solo jugador en juego, sino que el pozo es mas chico, por ende genera menos deseos de tomar riesgos.

Tu imagen en la mesa:
Si has desarrollado una imagen en la mesa de ser un jugador suelto y no tan selectivo, un bluff tiene muchas menos probabilidades de funcionar. Si ya has mentido y te han atrapado, los demás jugadores estarán más dispuestos a pagar tus apuestas. De todas maneras, la psicología inversa puede a veces beneficiarte en estas situaciones, ya que cuando un buen jugador te atrapa con un bluff, si te tilda a ti de buen jugador, puede pensar que no te atreverás a mentir devuelta.

Las cartas comunitarias:
Si estás jugando una variación de poker que tiene estas cartas, y estas presentan un amplio rango de oportunidades de formar una buena mano, es muy improbable que un bluff funcione. Cuando estas mismas cartas no parecen ayudar mucho a los demas jugadores, y presentan pocas oporortunidades de formar algun proyecto, el bluff puede funcionar bien. En estas situaciones, si puedes representar una buena mano, tu bluff deberia funcionar perfectamente. Si las cartas comunitarias no estan coordinadas, y hay alguna carta que pueda asustar si tu representas tener una mano fuerte, es el mejor momento de hacer un bluff.

El tamaño del pozo
Es mas probable que tus oponentes paguen cuando el pozo es grande, porque sus chances del pozo son mejores. De todos modos, si haces un buen bluff cuando el pozo es grande, tu recompensa sera mucho mejor. Debes simplemente juzgar bien la situación.

Posición:
Una posición tardia te provee de mucha mas información sobre las manos de tus contrincantes. Esto hace que estas posiciones sean mucho mejores para hacer un bluff que las primeras. Puedes estar en una de las ultimas posiciones y todos pasan hasta llegar a ti. Si la mesa te parece favorable y hay pocos jugadores en juego, considera hacer un buen bluff.

Para hacer el blog algo más dinámico y atractivo he decido introducir pequeños cambios. La idea es ampliar poco a poco las secciones del mismo. Aquí se demuestra una de las frases que leí en un manual de Carreño:

“El póquer NO es un juego de cartas jugado por personas, es un juego de personas jugado con cartas”

Con esta frase quiero decir que entiendo perfectamente el fold de Durrrr con su full de ases y treses. Es decir, tiene un full sí, pero poniendo a Ivey en un rango de manos las parejas entran perfectamente dentro de ese rango. Y con cualquier pareja, exceptuando los doses, está totalmente por debajo y sin opciones de mejorar la mano.

Realmente tengo que aprender inglés. Los comentarios del final no tienen desperdicio pero no capto toda la conversación bien, me hago una idea pero no pillo los detalles ni los matices. Así que si alguien quiere poner en los comentarios que dicen exáctamente me hacéis un favor!!!!

Since I started this Challenge with zero dollars in my account, it would make sense to explain a little strategy on playing freerolls.

            Most freerolls have between a 30 and 100 dollar prize pool and usually thousands of players. This means that if you get anywhere close to cashing in one, you will be spending at least a couple of hours playing for what is usually somewhere between 50 cents and 15 dollars. Not much, but if your starting a new bankroll without making a deposit, these pennies are what is going to start you off so you should at least have a plan of attack that will help you cash in them. Some poker sites (like bodog) have freerolls that have rebuys and guaranteed prize pools up to $1000. Freerolls like these should be played in as much as possible but we will talk about these in another article. Ill be focusing on the smaller freerolls here.

Early Stages

          Freerolls should be played a little bit different than real money tournaments. Real money tournament strategy is to start off tight early on playing mostly premium hands and not risking your tournament life on coin flips. Once the antes kick in you should turn up the aggression and build your stack gradually by stealing the blinds and antes. Freerolls are different in that you want to build your stack early by doubling up. You want to play smart but do not worry about betting small amounts to win small pots. Take your premium hands and push all in preflop. You will most likely get at least one or 2 callers with average hands. Do not wait until after the flop to push all in. Many players who would have called you with K 10 preflop will not want to call after a flop of 9-5-3. You want to double up early  and often with solid hands. If it doesnt work out you can just play another freeroll. You need to build a big stack early so you can throw it around the table in the later stages. Take advantage of the carelessness and loose play of the other players. I would push all in with any pocket pair 88 or better and ace jack or better. If you can see a flop cheaply I would limp with all pocket pairs below 88, any suited ace, KJ, K10 or any suited connectors trying to see a monster flop. NEVER BLUFF AT THIS STAGE OF THE TOURNAMENT!!!

Middle Stages

          As the tournament progresses, the play will start to resemble normal poker more and more with players gradually beginning to tighten up. The middle stages will still be fairly loose but now you can start to pick and choose who you want to play against. By now you should have a big stack that you can use to push the smallest stacks all in. I would refrain from using the all in move here preflop as you may get re raised by a bigger stack you dont want to get involved with. Now is a good time to play Straightforward poker and make big raises with big hands. Play your cards in position and agressively. Dont play out of position unless you have big holdings. Limping with small pocket pairs and suited connectors is still acceptable if you can see the flop cheaply. I would make raises between 3.5 and 5 times the big blind on any raise. I would still refrain from bluffing at this stage of the tournament because of the amount of short stacks that will be ready to move all in. Play as straightforward here as possible and you will still get paid off on your made hands most of the time.

Late Stages

          As the later stages of the tournament come closer you can start to increase your range just a little bit and play a little more aggressively. I would still play very straightforward but you can start raising with suited aces and even suited connectors in position. However, be prepared to fold these in the face of reraises. The short stacks will be willing to move all in and you will still need premium holdings to be able to call these raises. Continue to play most hands in position and wield your big stack around the table as much as possible. Note that this strategy is for a big or medium/big stack, if you have a short stack you need to wait for a hand to double up with on an all in move. You need to tighten your range of hands and wait for good opportunities when you are the favorite to win.

Final Table

          If your lucky enough to get to the final table, now is the time to become the bully if the table is fairly tight. You can raise with any ace, king, or even Q 10, Q J. If the table is very loose let them knock each other out and move up the ladder with solid poker plays in position.
