O Look Do Dia de hoje foi escolhido pela Toddynho! Estamos num clima muito teen stars hoje e decidimos fazer um post sobre a Nicole Anderson que faz o papel da Macy em Jonas (sortuda!).

Este clique dela aconteceu faz um tempinho, no último dia 16, mas achei muito válido para comentar aqui, até porque para as Moças mais novinhas (não que as mais…maduras – oh tristeza! rsrs – não possam encarar um look desses) usam muito essas atrizes como inspiração. O visual dela foi bastante jovem, muito de acordo com a idade dela (19). Eu adoro as produções dela como um todo, sempre muito fashion e ótimas para ela e, por isso, ela merece o meu respeito (isso claro, e o fato dela estar sempre perto dos Jonas Brothers! Há!).

Acho que o mais legal do make dela é a sombra prata que ela passou no canto interno do olho para iluminar. Ela é bastante bronzeada e, num primeiro momento, essa ideia pode ficar um pouco demais, muito exagerado. Eu aconselharia passar um tom mais puxado para o cobre ou o bronze. No entanto, como ela passou bem pouquinho, ficou ótimo e bastante discreto

Outra coisa que ela apostou bastante para o visual foi o delineado preto. Tanto na marca d’água, na parte inferior dos olhos, quanto na mesma linha na parte superior e rente ao cílios na mesma região, o preto abriu os olhos e destacou o verde deles. Lindo!

Como eu comentei da sombra ali em cima, o blush que a Nicole usou é um tom mais escuro e neutro, um cobre bem colocado na maçã do rosto que deu um ar discreto de saúde. Nada exagerado.

Mas eu acho que o que eu mais gostei mesmo foi o batom dela. Um again cobre, mais matte, mas ainda assim com um brilinhos dourados discreto. Deu unifomidade no make e realçou os olhos e o tom de pele dela. Aprovado.

O que acharam, Moças?

The December issue of Allure magazine has an interview with Francois Nars, the man who created the upscale NARS cosmetics line. We assume he is the guy that named the line’s popular blush color “Orgasm.”

In the story, the French Nars talks about his 15-year-old makeup line and how he likes to keep a low profile and not make many public appearances.

Maybe that’s why he didn’t show up for the debut of NARS on QVC recently, when host Lisa Robertson was not allowed to say “Orgasm,” the name of his blush.

Nars, who owns an island near Tahiti, talks about his mom and his side career as a photographer, shooting models for his ads.

He also told Allure that he knows every inch of Madonna’s body, from doing her makeup for her music videos. We’re not touching that one.

Allure described the NARS Orgasm blush as having “a notorious name.”

And Nars says it “looks good on practically everybody.”

Monday Minute Makeup Lesson:

“Awww, You’re Making Me Blush!”

There is a reason for the phrase “blushing bride.”  Nothing is more beautiful then a glowing, rosy flush.  Want to do it right?  Choose a fluffy blush brush or kabuki brush (a real one, not the disposable ones) that has a size appropriate to the size of your face.  You can check by holding it up to your cheek; the size of the brush’s end shouldn’t be larger than the apple of your cheek.  Dip the brush straight into the blush (holding the brush perpendicular to the product).  Load up the bristles in an up-and-down tapping motion, instead of sweeping over the top.  This will load the tip of the brush with product, not the sides.  Remove only a little of the loose excess by tapping the side of the brush handle against your wrist.  Do not blow on your brush (gross!).

Next, face a mirror and smile.  When you smile, you will see your cheeks become rounded.  Locate the fullest part of your cheek, the apples.  Think of the center of the circle as a “bulls-eye” and aim your brush there.  To apply, press the end of the brush into your cheek and use the same tapping motion you used to load the brush.  Really press the product in; this will make it look like the glow is coming from within your skin instead of sitting on top.  Yes, I know it looks like you are stabbing yourself in the cheek with a weapon.  Then move to the other cheek and repeat.

At this point, if you’ve done it correctly, it may look like you have two circles of blush, similar to a Raggity-Ann doll.  Thats okay, because now that you’ve applied the product, its time to blend.  Remove excess product from your brush by rubbing it against the inside of your wrist.  When your brush is relatively product free, blend your blush by using a sweeping, back-and-forth motion over your cheeks, back toward your temples.  Whereas during the application, you used lots of pressure, blending should be done with feather-light strokes.  You will know you are done blending when you cant see any lines or edges, and the color on your cheek gradually fades into skin tone.  An easy phrase to remember is “press to apply, sweep to blend.”

One last tip:  don’t be afraid of cheek color!  Studies show that people with rosy cheeks appear friendlier, younger, happier and more rested.  Don’t let the blushing brides get all the attention. . .

Faz mais de um mês que eu fiquei sabendo do lançamento da linha de maquiagens da Mahogany… mas NÃO, NÃO TESTEI nada (a acho honestamente que nem vou). Por quê? Oras… eu escrevi para a empresa pedindo informações, queria saber do conceito, princípios ativos…etc. e TCHARAMMM… NADA!!!!! Nem me responderam… Eu fui na loja, também para obter informações, conhecer a linha… pegaram meu email, mas também NADA! Assim é chato né? Então vou ficar devendo em esclarecimentos… pelo que vi na loja os preços não são convidativos e não sei se aqualidade é boa! Então diante disso nem me animei a comprar.

Visitando o site, vi que a linha tem 14 produtos diferentes, a base só conta com 3 tonalidades, mas eles tem um hidratante colorido indicada para prevenir o envelhecimento(também em 3 tonalidades: light, natural e bege – pele escura fica como?) e um gloss com efeito 3D.

Summer’s pinks may already be a distant memory, but November still has its roses to offer.

Akin to a false sunrise, a blush of pink in the northwest sky is only a reflection of the sun rising in the east.  It may be disorienting to walkers in deep woods who are without a compass and trying to find their bearings.

As they pale with the approaching winter, marsh grasses reveal subtle pinks at the bottom of their stems that were less noticeable during their green phase.

The blush of pinks and oranges at the tips of this weed growing in the gravel are reversed to the centre in its negative image.  Whichever way you look at it, the landscape in November is still glowing, and has yet to lose her charm.

When a girl ceases to blush, she has lost the most powerful charm of her beauty.

About a week ago, we wrote about the debut of NARS cosmetics on QVC, where host Lisa Robertson was banned from saying the name of one of the makeup line’s blushes: Orgasm.

It seemed ridiculous to us, but Robertson and the NARS rep were only able to refer to that particular color as “O” or “starts with an ‘O,’ ends with an ‘M.’” QVC did, however, run the color’s name on-screen.

Well, that NARS shows sparked a lively debate on QVC’s online forums, with some viewers skewering the home shopping channel for being silly and prudish; and others taking QVC’s side, criticizing NARS.

One of the posters cracked us up, when she joked that QVC wouldn’t allow the word “orgasm” to be said on-air because “they don’t want to make any false ‘medical claims.’”

Robertson had said that censors barred her from saying the Big O. One QVC poster found that hard to believe, writing, “After all, it’s not among the 7 dirty words that can’t be uttered, as per FCC rulings. (Hope this makes it by the censors!!!)”

Wrote another poster, “I think it was very childish of them not to call the Nars blush Orgasm as that is what it is named. Constantly saying the blush that starts with an ‘O’ and ends with an ‘M’ was so annoying. I love this product and have worn it for quite some time now. Good to know that the Q offers it, but guys, c’mon and grow up. If it’s written on screen in full during it’s showing, why not just say the word? After all, as per Lisa and the rep, “it’s the most popular choice among the blushes.”

But others blasted NARS, not QVC.

“I think it’s disgusting that NARS has to name their products these names,” said one poster. “Can’t the product stand alone without the s-xual names?”

She wasn’t the only one who felt that way.

“I TOTALLY agree with you, Missy,” another QVC poster wrote. “If anything is childish, it’s this company stooping to such a level of product naming. This couldn’t be more ridiculous, disgusting or inappropriate.”

But yet another poster shot right back.

“What’s disgusting about it?” she wrote. “It’s not a swear word or a ‘dirty’ word or an obscene word. Obviously, it’s meant to invoke a certain experience that most people find enjoyable, and the word, especially in its adjective form, is quite often used in a general way to describe anything that supposedly resembles that unique experience.”

Wrote a poster, “I had to read this blog twice! ARE YOU PEOPLE SERIOUS? We are all adults here. OK-so QVC didn’t want to say the word O—-M. Fine. But I too wonder what is wrong with the rest of you that are so prim and proper you are ridiculing the company itself for having used a name like that or using s-xual-like names in general. The company is classy and does not come off vulgar at all. It is a beautiful color by the way.”

By the way, Orgasm is on wait-list on QVC.

Monday Phyrra suggested I check out Medusa MakeUp.  I had to laugh because I had JUST placed an order with them!  I had actually noticed them reading my latest issue of Nylon, although they have been in a TON of magazines including Alternative Press (AP), which I’ve been reading for over a decade.  Medusa was a name I recognized, they’ve been around since 1992.  Medusa is also available in stores all over the world.  While they do sell mineral makeup, I’m not sure I would go so far as to call them a mineral makeup company.

Ordering

Medusa sells a wide variety of products.  Eye dusts, glitter, pressed shadows, body shimmer, blush, brushes, bags, gloss, liners and a wide range of fixatives.  The site is bright and well organized.  It’s full of images of women in bright, imaginative makeup.

One thing that bothered me is the cart, run by Paypal, opens on a totally different page.

Most of the products (the Eye Dusts and Blushes for example) are all posted on a page with a black background with no color descriptions.  I think the only thing I found with any description was the glosses.

The prices were very reasonable, nothing was insanely overpriced, the Eye Dusts were 6$ which is really a competitive price for a loose shadow.

I ended up ordering:

I ordered late on November 15 and my order arrived on November 18th.  Shipping is free on orders over 50$.  Everything was packaged very carefully in a bubble mailer.  Most of the items were packaged in small bags with information about the makeup included on the back of a product card.

Included was my invoice as well as a really cute Medusa Makeup sticker with their logo on it as well as a brochure.

Packaging

The packaging, featuring bold images and black and hot pink is eye catching. It’s original and creative and so bright.  It’s all pink everywhere.

The shadows come in stackable 5gram jars, minus the sifters and jam packed with product, so you could possible screw them all together, which personally appeals to me.  The mascara is in a bold black and pink tube and the gloss is in a really unique squared tube.  The blush I ordered is so eye catching.  It’s in a clear jar and the lid is domed and rimmed in bright pink.  The pressed shadows, which I didn’t get, sort of look like MAC shadows on the website, in black jars with clear domed lids.

The Eye Dusts
Oh, the Eye Dusts.  The swatches on the site are simply amazing.  Bright and shocking.  But not all of them have descriptions, so you really have to hope the colors on your monitor are right.

Tiger – I was expecting a nice bright orange, and it was what I got.

Red Baron – Am I crazy for expecting a red shadow?  It was more of a deep pink.  (By the way, if anyone knows of someplace I can get a nice true red mineral shadow, for the love of Dave, please tell me.)

Purple Rain – Sucked in by the Prince reference, I picked this one because it was bright.  Swatching it I realized with a bit of sadness I already had it.  It’s a match to Grape Pop! from TKB.

Flamingo – Again, on the site it looks BRIGHT pink, but in person it’s very soft.  And again, I found out I already had it in TKB’s Pink.

Helter Skelter – Can you see where this is going?  It was a match to TKB’s Blackstar Blue.

This in no way means they are simply repacking directly from TKB (or any other site, there are a dozen places to get mica wholesale), since two of their shades were not available on the TKB site.  It would have been more damning had I been able to match them ALL.  So while I know several were matches, I’m going to assume they sell a mix of unblended shades as well as original colors.  Nowhere on the site do they claim to custom formulate their makeup, though, so it’s a non issue to me since they don’t reply on it as a selling point.  However, they are NOT straight mica.  The Eye Dusts are made with a titanium dioxide blend, turning them from mica into an actual eyeshadow with blend-ability and staying power.

When Phyrra emailed asking if they make their own products they replied :

The Mascara

I picked the purple.  I am very predictable that way.  I already have a lovely purple mascara from Lauder, but I’m always willing to try a less expensive alternative.  This formula is waterproof and volumizing, just like it claims to be.  However the purple is a very light shade, so unless you’re looking for it, you might expect that I just have some regular mascara on, the tint is that subtle.

The Gloss

Loverboy is described as intense pink with a bubblegum flavor.  It’s a nice pink, but I wouldn’t call it intense.  I always wonder, though, if my idea of intense is different then most peoples because I am used to bright colors?  It’s however a very lovely Barbie pink that I will enjoy wearing.  I like the formula, it’s not sticky and it’s quite opaque, but I’m not getting a bubblegum flavor from it.

I’m sure there are many dupes out there available for the gloss, and at 9$ a tube this might be the only product I might suggest you find one for.  I might suggest Sephora’s Sweet Candy Gloss if you really want a flavored gloss, or maybe even something like Hard Candy if you’re looking for a drug store alternative.

The Blush

I adore the packaging.  It’s really cute and innovative.  The color, Dangerous Liaison, is a nice clear pink.  It’s not quite as bright as some of the other shades I own, but it’s also not ‘dusty’ so it’s a good alternative for a “less is more” look.  I suspect, however, it’s basically just the same blend as the eyeshadow, just mixed with a higher ratio of the base.

The Bag

It’s a bag.  Ummmm.  It’s a cute little transparent bright pink bag with the company logo.

Conclusion

Would I buy from Medusa Makeup again?  I might.

• I didn’t try the pressed shades, so I wonder what those might be like.
• I am willing to take a chance on a few of the other Eye Dusts.  I’ll look more carefully, though, knowing the pictures are not as accurate as I thought they were.  They are not prohibitively expensive that it would be too great of a waste.
• I love the concept and the packaging, the bright colors and all the extras they sell, including brushes.

Phyrra has a couple of looks using Medusa here and here and a ton of swatches here. We’ve come to the conclusion your swatches may be brighter using TFSI rather then the UDPP that I used for my swatches.

Swirl a powder brush over them, tap off excess, and sweep over your entire face for instant oomph.

Depois que comecei a me interessar por maquiagem percebi que a melhor maneira para me maquiar é usando os pinceis, mas isso não é tão fácil assim pra quem esta aprendendo agora como eu, os formatos são variadíssimos, existem pinceis para tudo que a gente possa imaginar, então fiz uma busca na net para tirar minhas dúvidas e a de vcs tb e achei no site da republica capricho uma matéria bem esclarecedora e decidi passar pra vcs. Tenho certeza que muitas meninas que assim como eu ficam perdidas com tantas opções de pinceis, então vamos lá:

Base:

Começando pelo primeiro passo da maquiagem que é a base: O pincel ideal para aplicar a base tem o formato chato e fino para espalhar por igual tanto a base cremosa quanto a líquida.

Como usar: Coloque um pouco de base nas costas da mão e molhe apenas a ponta das cerdas. Espalhe na parte central do rosto (nariz, queixo, bochechas), puxando sempre o produto para as laterais e dando batidas com o pincel para a cobertura ficar mais uniforme. Depois, passe nas outras regiões, com movimentos contínuos do centro para as extremidades do rosto, para espalhar bem o produto. A pele fica com um efeito aveludado.

Corretico:

Para o corretivo o pincel deve ser achatado, fino e menor do que o pincel de base. Quadradinho ou com as extremidades estreitas, ajuda a camuflar olheiras com precisão.

Como usar: passe corretivo nas olheiras, abas do nariz, em volta da boca e no arco da sobrancelha. Dê leves batidinhas com o pincel até deixar uma camada fina do produto – assim seu rosto não vai ficar com manchas desiguais do produto.

Pó:

Para o pó o pincel deve ter muitos pelos e ser redondo para poder cobrir de uma só vez as áreas maiores do rosto. Os compactos, com cabo pequeno facilitam a aplicação do produto no pescoço e colo.

Como usar: com movimentos de vaivém, passe o pincel na zona T do rosto – o centro da testa, as laterais do nariz, sob os olhos e o centro do queixo são lugares que sempre pedem uma aplicação de pó para disfarçar a oleosidade. Para não errar na dose, encoste o pincel no pó, dê uma batidinha na mão ou assopre de leve para tirar o excesso.

Blush:

Para passar blush o pincel ideal de possuir cerdas arredondadas ou chanfrado (este é o mais indicado para marcar as maçãs do rosto).

Como usar: passe o pincel partindo das maçãs do rosto (dar um sorrisinho ajuda a encontrar o local certo) em direção às orelhas. Se quiser um look estilo boneca, faça movimentos circulares nas maçãs do rosto. Para o make ficar mais natural, retire o excesso de produto do pincel com um sopro, antes de aplicar.

Olhos:

Para passar a primeira camada de sombra o ideal é usar o pincel com espuma (melhor para aplicar sombras com glitter) ou de cerdas achatadas.

Como usar: como fiz o produto, mas não dá muita definição, é ideal para passar a primeira camada de sombra. Na hora de aplicar uma sombra escura, use as bordas do pincel para sombrear o côncavo dos olhos e suavizar o make.

- Para esfumar a sombra deve ser utilizado o pincel com cerdas fofinhas e formato oval.

Como usar: faça movimentos curtos e leves de vaivém, para deixar a sombra bem natural.

- Para delinear pálpebra, corrigir sobrancelha e contornar linha dos cílios o pincel deve ter cerdas finas e bem durinhas (é chamado de pincel chanfrado).

Como usar: para delinear, umedeça a ponta do pincel chanfrado, passe na sombra e faça um traço grosso rente aos cílios. Use a versão com cerdas cortadas na diagonal para puxar o traço de sombra para o canto externo dos olhos.

- Para finalizar a área dos olhos fica lindo fazer um traço bem fino na linha dos cílios e criar efeito de delineador cremoso para isso usamos o pincel que tenha a ponta superfina e com as cerdas bem juntas.

Como usar: desenhe uma linha com lápis da mesma cor do seu delineador rente aos cílios. Depois, cubra o traço com o pincel.

Para pintar os lábios o correto é usar o pincel com cerdas bem finas e juntas é ideal para fazer o contorno dos lábios. O de cerdas um pouco mais grossas e um pouco maiores é melhor para espalhar o batom.

Como usar: passe o pincel mais fino no batom, desenhe primeiro o V no lábio superior, faça um traço no meio do contorno dos lábios inferiores e então vá contornando a linha dos lábios em direção às extremidades, em cima e embaixo. Com o pincel mais grosso, preencha os lábios.

Lave-os com um shampoo neutro. Seque com papel toalha ou um lenço umedecido e NUNCA guarde os pincéis sem que as cerdas estejam completamente secas. A lavagem pode ser feita a cada 15 dias.

This blush instantly brightens, giving me the perfect glow, with just a hint of shimmer. I call it the “NARS Orgasm for brown girls.” That said, it’s an incredibly versatile shade that can be worn on any skintone. It just makes me smile.

YSL Touche Eclat in #4
My magic wand, Touche Eclat really is like 8 hours of sleep in a pen. My dark circles are virtually erased with one sweep. I have one in every bag. Seriously.

Lancôme Artliner in Noir
Artliner was made for me: gives the look of liquid liner but the portability and ease of a pencil. The felt tip makes application fast and nearly foolproof. I like to get in really tight on the lash line and then wing it out just slightly, creating another lash, if you will. Instant drama. Incredible sophistication.

Lancôme Oscillation PowerBooster
I have used Lancôme Cils Booster XL for years but this summer, I tried PowerBooster and am hooked. Not only does this power primer help enhance the effects of your mascara (longer, thicker lashes – yes, yes!!!!!!) but the formula itself helps boost natural lash growth.
