Estive este feriado em Nova York onde pude assistir à encenação de Il Trittico, obra de Puccini que reúne 3 óperas de um ato cada: Il Tabarro, Suor Angelica e Gianni Schicchi. Assisti no Metropolitan Opera House, o mesmo lugar onde Il Trittico estreou, em 1918 (o que já foi uma felicidade à parte).

A noite teve vários pontos altos, mas na minha opinião, o maior deles foi a produção, especialmente o cenário. Esta obra tem um complicômetro a mais para a equipe de produção, já que eles tem que mudar em poucos minutos o cenário de uma ópera para outra, sendo que a primeira não tem nada a ver com a segunda que não tem nada a ver com a terceira. E nisso eles foram mestres. E os cenários, maravilhosos. Gosto de cenários tradicionais que não ficam querendo ser irreverentes e não buscam inventar a roda. Claro, a criatividade é sempre bem vinda, como a destes cenários que utilizaram perfeitamente a perspectiva distorcida para dar uma maior sensação de profundidade, a ponto de a gente achar que tinha um prédio de fábrica inteiro dentro do palco. Mas gosto quando reproduzem a estética e o clima da época que o compositor pensou para ela. Não quero ver uma ópera daquela época encenada nos dias de hoje. Hoje eu conheço. Eu quero ler a mente do compositor, até onde isso for possível.

A soprano Patricia Racette, que protagonizou as três óperas, foi muito bem, mas deixou um pouco a desejar na primeira, Il Tabarro, na minha opinião. Mas logo imaginei que talvez seu forte fossem notas mais agudas que as do seu papel de Giorgetta. Pensei que estaria melhor em Suor Angelica, por seu personagem entoar notas agudas de desespero de uma mãe que perde o filho. E comprovei, esteve muito bem. Terminei esta ópera igualmente desesperada. Ela conseguiu perfeitamente incorporar a dor daquela mãe e passar para o público. Na terceira ópera, Gianni Schicchi, sua personagem canta aquela famosa ária O Mio Babbino Caro, que por si só já é linda. Ela cantou bem. Mesmo sem ter sido uma interpretação espetacular, pois achei que faltou a súplica sarcástica que a ária pede (neste momento, a personagem pede ao pai que ajude a família do seu noivo a dar um golpe do tio rico), me deliciei.

Quem esteve espetacular foi Stephanie Blythe, que apesar de cantar no Metropolitan ainda não teve o reconhecimento que merece. É impressionante o volume e o brilho que essa mezzo-soprano tem em todas as notas. E interpreta maravilhosamente, de uma velha parisiense a uma princesa na Toscana. Roubou o show e os aplausos dos cantores principais, como já fez em outras performances no Met. Também gostei muito de Alessandro Corbelli no papel-título de Gianni Schicchi e da orquestra regida por Stefano Ranzani. Dignos do Metropolitan!!

Wow! I thought I was going to pull my own hair out while trying to work on this alpaca reroot for a custom commission… but I’m starting to love it! It’s sooooo incredibly soft and floats in the air like a feather! I may have to dye some black for my little Monday instead of the black saran reroot I’m doing on her now. I’m almost done with the pink thermal saran reroot for another commission, can’t wait to be done with these two though so I can work on some of my own stuff. I’m going to take a break on customs until the beginning of next year. I have so much knitting to do and spinning now!

Gente, vou falar de uma coisa que tem me  atrapalhado bastante nessa reta final de mestrado (parece até coisa séria!) .  Passo horas olhando sites, flickr, blogs sobre bonecas… é a blythe que tem tomado conta do meu pensamento, dos meu sonhos…  gente, parece hipnoze!!! vocês não têm noção!. Ninguem aguenta mais eu falando de blythe e olhando fotos o dia inteiro.

Bom…  Elas  são bonecas cabeçudas, olhudas, lindas, customizáveis, fotogênicas… e super caras.  Tem quem diga que são assustadoras, estranhas e que dá medo. Na minha opnião só se forem assustadoramente lindas!

A Blythe foi criada em 1972, pela empresa americana Kenner. Não tiveram o sucesso esperado e logo desapareceram do mercado.

Hoje são itens de colecionadores e valem pequenas fortunas. Anos depois, por volta de 2000, foram relançadas pela Takara com o nome de Neo Blythes e desde então diversos modelos já foram criados.

Hoje é uma febre entre as “crianças grandes” no mundo inteiro, não tem como não se encantar pela boneca.

I’ve been sick. Ugh. Been sick since Friday, but I felt it start on Thursday. My throat burned really bad but I didn’t think to much of it, then at midnight, it hit me like a truck. I’m doing much better today! I think I’ll be back to myself again tomorrow for sure! So I’ve been just sitting around the house knitting and watching Zoë. I’m almost done with the Skull Jumper, I need to run out and get smaller needles to finish the top. The whole thing is done with size 9’s, but the top is done in size 7’s. Of course I only bought the first size needed cause I never thought in a million years I would finish it, but I am!

I’m making small progress on the Leaf & Sprout cowl, almost done with the bottom ribbing. Note to self: I HATE knitting ribbing! But it looks nice so I’ll stop bitching.

I’m also making big progress on my Zombie Fourteen! I can’t wait to finish this thing so I can added these gnarly Molten Zombie buttons I got for it! Woot!

I also got pink thermal saran and a scalp for another current reroot I’m getting ready to start for a commission! Dr. Natchan carved my lips so I can have pretty shape of lips. She painted my lips with my favorite color, pink.

She rerooted my hair so it looks more natural. She also changed my eye chips too.

Oh! and she put some blush on cheeks. I feel like I’m a new doll now:D

I will do a separate post about the store in general, this post will just be focused on the doll meet that happened at it yesterday. Approximately twenty pullips collectors descended on the store, this has by far been my largest pullip meet ever. I think the next largest had like seven or eight people, some people came from as far away as Syracuse, NY for this event. I drove up to requiemart’s house in the morning and we drove to the meet together because I fail directions and would have ended up in Canada rather than Waltham, MA.

The scary part is this wasn’t all of them more people arrived a bit later and also added their dolls to the massive display. There was a pretty good variety of dolls at the meet, I personally brought 14 with me including one blythe, one of my bjds and of my dollfie dreams as people had never seen them in person and were curious about them. I feel as though I personally miss out on some of the fun of meets because well I have all the dolls, so the allure of seeing some of the dolls in person is kind of lost on me. Requiem brought quite a few dolls with her as well, we basically took up a shelf and a half with our dolls ^^; There was even a Zombuki there, zombukis for those of you who don’t know are were originally based off of an idea from America’s Next Top Model but the designer has gone above and beyond that idea now. There is a definite division in the pullip community about zombukies, they are either being tremendous, unique pieces of art or as overpriced, unoriginal custom. I personally love the way the designer puts together outfits and gorgeous photoshoots but I was kind of unimpressed after seeing Cheshire in person, maybe it is because I am spoiled and am used to requiemart’s flawless customs ^^; That being said I did really like Cheshire but at the price she actually went for I expected a bit more, her lips for example appeared to still be partially stock just reshaped.

We did a group photo of all the dals together. Most of them belonged to me and Requiem. I brought along my JP couch and chair unfortunately the couch got broken in transit twice so me, the glue and the couch have a date later. I am hoping I can fix it >_<.

There was a small swap but it was kind of unorganized. I ended up with some re-ment, a new fur wig and a mini pullip Raphia. I basically got the mini Raphia because she is a good skin tone match for Papin so she went home with Requiemart who is going to customize her into being a Papin mini for me.

Of course the store itself does actually sell pullips and I am not the type to leave empty handed. Thanks to two Visa gift cards I had, I was able to bring home two new dolls with me. I bought Maretti and Papin. I bought Maretti because she is the last dal I needed to be all caught up and she is super adorable and I bought Papin well because she is a Papin and I hadn’t bought one from a physical store yet.

Of course once I got home, zilla had other ideas about who Maretti’s owner was. It took me hours to get her back.

Hoy mis padres me han dado la alegría del mes. Me han dicho que por navidad me van a regalar una Blythe y que vaya mirando para pedirla. He empezado pero no se por cual de todas estas decidirme.

Es que me encantan todas!! Menuda lío!!

Yay! The Zombukis Love You 2010 Wall Calender is live! For those of you who have the 2009 Calender I must say I think the 2010 one blows it out of the water! I’m so pleased with how it turned out :3 There are currently four up in the ZLY shop with more coming in next week. If you’d like to know what other girls are featured just drop me a line, I always want my calenders to be a surprise so that’s where there are only the four teaser images :3

Monday was demanding a new reroot, new chips and new lips. So I caved in and gave her new lips and two new eye chip sets… and I’m now working on her new reroot. She wore another scalp around the house until I decided to do it…

This reroot is going by extremely fast. I’ve only done the first two center rows on her partline and thatched them before I took a break. I have two more reroots on the way, one saran and the other is alpaca.

I am very busy in preparation of my trip to Japan end of this month. Forgive me if I have not been replying your emails and providing updates to you. Let me take the chances to provide a summary of the some of the information required by some of you:

- For those who are hunting for the Toys R Us exclusive neo blythe “Stella Savannah”, I have updates for you – our local Toys R Us is selling her (I emailed them and they confirmed it). However, they do not allow pre-order, so I guess we need to go there directly on the date of release to get her. I hope it does not fall during the period of my Bangkok trip.

For a while now I have been umming and ahhing about buying a full sized Blythe doll. I went a bit mad over them last year but didnt actually buy one. I have a book about them and a pack of postcards, but not the real thing. It cant be that hard to pick one and buy it can it!? Anyway, this one really caught my attention. One like this would be great…

Some people think they are hideous or scary, but I love their big eyes and rosy cheeks. I have never been one for liking china dolls, having some as a child at night I would have to make sure they were not facing me. And I hate ventriloquist dummies…with the flapping mouths! Horrible!

I also found these amazing shelving units, designed by Thomas Wold. I would love to have something similar in my house one day. He seems to find broken and unused furniture and puts it all together in a very interesting way. I really like the colours too.

I have almost finished Batman: Arkham Asylum on the Xbox 360. I personally think it is a great game. I havent wanted to session a game for a long while and I have really gone to town on this already. 85% of all the Riddler quests completed and almost finished the storyline quests. Go team! And how HOT is Poison Ivy in this game… wowee!

Today Ryan took a half day off work, and we went to Rochester High Street to get Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising from the postoffice because I missed the delivery the other day. It also came with a t-shirt and a carabina torch… all of which I won on VGR Forums. I also bought some new fat-quarters of some very cute fabrics from Home Town, in Rochester, and a book called ‘Material Obsession’ by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke, ao that I can finally learn how to quilt properly. That will use up all the fat-quarters I have stored; I shall include photos tomorrow. We got a Subway for lunch, and I answered a questionnaire about why I was in Rochester for some small school girls. I also went to town a bit on ebay last night, purchasing a whole load of buttons and ribbons to stock up with. Cant wait for them to arrive in the post!

Work tonight and tomorrow night, and then my parents are coming over Sunday for a meal to celebrate my birthday. It is actually on Thursday, but they are unable to come for a meal that day. I am starting to feel slightly old! I know I shouldnt…

Hmm..after my exam I think I’ll grab those canvases I’m not using (were wall decos covered in fabric, which were awesome but don’t match current decor) and paint something on them. For some reason I want to paint…

This Lakshmi, my Heather Sky. I gave her a new look with carved lips and philtrum and new make-up, lashes, chip ect.
I think she’s a keeper for now. I thought of selling her but she’s so unique.
I was inspired to redo her after giving another HS a re-root in black for a client.
I would like to offer a custom for sale soon. Right now I’m busy with commission work and will squeeze something in between.

Originally produced in 1972 in Japan these dolls were taken off the market due to poor sales, 28 years later they were re-produced after Blythe starred in a TV commercial and rocketed to stardom. Now you  can find just about anything for your Blythe doll, “contacts” that change their eye color, makeup, jewely, and tons of custom made clothing. They are about 12 inches tall.

The only downside I can spot? We may never be as cool as our plastic protoges.

New Neo Blythes to be released in the Dec 2009 –”Ice Rune”, Toys”R”Us Exclusive Neo Blythe “Stella Savannah” and CWC Exclusive Ribonetta Wish.
