Já imaginou você dizer o que você quer para o seu carro e ele obedecer? Isso o BMW Gina faz. Você, por exemplo, quer fazer a revisão no motor? É só dizer “Gina, por favor abra o capô”, e ele se abrirá. Desta forma se faz tudo. Os faróis, são pequenos, mas podem ser ampliados se você falar “Gina, poderia aumentar um pouco os faróis?”, o carro te obedece. Outra coisa legal da BMW é a plataforma que pode mudar: por exemplo, atrás, eu preciso colocar um coisa mais alta, fale para Gina aumentar o porta-malas. Os bancos são sem apoio de cabeça, mas se quiser, ele cria encostos automaticamente! Isto tudo é o conceito Gina da BMW, o carro que te obedece.

BMW has unveiled its GINA Light Visionary Model concept car. The BMW Gina Light Visionary concept car showcases the direction that BMW’s designs may take, and new materials and technologies that BMW plans to adopt in the future.

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car uses fabric as the skin that allows drivers to change the shape of the car at will, unlike rigid structures.

The fabric skin of the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car is used to cover metal wires, which can be moved to achieve different shapes using electro-hydraulic devices.

How does it all hang together? Well, wire mesh and carbon fiber.

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car allows the driver to change both the exterior and interior of the car for as many number of times as desired. So you want a low-slung skirt – you got it. Want a spoiler, you got that too! The headlights are revealed when the fabric moves apart, and the engine is accessed when the bonnet seemingly splits to reveal its innards.

Another plus for the BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car is that its lighter and can be made out of materials that require less energy to make them.

In a video on BMW-web.tv, titled BMW GINA Light Visionary Model: Premiere , Chris Bangles, Director of Design BMW Group,  says GINA is an acronym that stands for Geometry (shapes), function (how things work), N for Infinite number of Adaptations. He adds, “The GINA philosophy is about flexibility. Thinking flexible. Acting Flexible.”

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car may or may not find its way into production, but it may be the precursor of new material alternatives that are lighter and more fluid. The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model concept car may also provide new design inputs because of its shape-changing abilities.

The BMW GINA: The Lazy Transformer!

What you see above is the BMW GINA Light, and this car has a body made entirely out of high tech seamless fabric which is stretched over a metal frame.  So it won’t turn into Optimus Prime and blast Decepticons, but it can transform. The body shape of this car can be changed at will by the driver.

The material on the exterior of this car is stretched over an aluminum frame which is controlled by hydraulics so you can change the shape of the car as you see fit. That means you can automatically make the spoiler higher, or widen out the fenders to fit your personal taste.

Words cannot explain how cool it looks when it shifts shapes. Check out the video and see for yourself.

This shape-shifting car is a concept car that was developed by BMW to “challenge existing principles and conventional processes.” The GINA is built on the same chassis as the BMW Z8 and it has a six-speed automatic transmission with a 4.4 liter V8 engine.

Discordo quando as pessoas dizem que tentar reinventar a roda é trabalho perdido. Por mais que a roda já tenha sido inventada, há maneiras de deixá-la diferente, e isto vale o esforço. E acredito que é bem nessas tentativas que surge a inovação.

BMW Gina concept : La bâche-mobile

BMW est un constructeur automobile dont la réputation de motoriste, héritée de ses fleurons à 2 roues, dépasse de beaucoup sa capacité à proposer un design qui fasse l’unanimité. Le style de la firme munichoise a su en effet passer d’un classicisme lourd (souvenez-vous les séries 5 et 7 des années 80…) à une audace compliquée, quand elle n’est pas maniérée (cf. la série 1 d’aujourd’hui).
On pourrait jusqu’alors, et pour faire lapidaire, résumer l’histoire du design de béhem à 2% de créativité et 98% de conservatisme bavarois. Et puis, voilà qu’arrive Gina.

Gina n’est pas une actrice italienne mais un concept étonnant de voiture (Gina signifie Geometry and functions In ‘N’ Adaptions) dont la carrosserie est constituée d’un textile souple. Bien plus fort que Kway, Gina réalise un numéro de transformisme hallucinant en dévoilant, par le jeu d’une structure mobile, des atours mécaniques qui ne déplairaient pas à Iron Man himself.

Au-delà de l’effet de manches de la belle, Gina assène un coup de massue aux designers automobiles du monde entier. Ce concept-car, promis nous dit-on à un avenir industriel, révolutionne enfin l’univers du design automobile, inerte depuis 50 ans, c’est à dire depuis l’apparition de la DS qui inaugura un style aérodynamique intégral qu’elle “survole” depuis lors.

L’équipe de Chris Bangle, directeur du design de BMW, ouvre une piste d’exploration d’une grande richesse, celle de la carrosserie souple et translucide. Fini les chocs de chariot de supermarché et les optiques de phare cassés dans un stationnement approximatif, Gina évoque l’intelligence d’une peau de requin (oui, le requin est assez crétin mais sa peau est vraiment pratique et fonctionnelle) et renvoie sans conteste la carrosserie de votre Clio au rang de coquille d’œuf de caille.

The BMW GINA stands for “Geometry and Functions in ‘N’ Adaptations”, which basically means that designers from both BMW and BMW Group DesignworksUSA were allowed to throw out the rulebook. This is most evident in the GINA Light Visionary Model’s outer skin, which is made entirely out of textile fabric that’s pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. The skeleton of the car is controlled by electro-hydraulic devices and can actually move and change shape beneath the fabric skin. What I really like about the design is that the it questions the very fundamentals and the very orthodoxy of our car beliefs. What is exactly is the function of the body frame? Is protection is one of the necessary ones? Or can the purpose of protection be achieved solely to the chassis and the body cage?

The material use is revolutionary - light, flexible, cheap, easy to manufacture.

And the most important part is the human element… The car feels human..check the video out to get what I mean… the ‘Queen’ can ‘blink her eyes’! and when the head rests get up, its like someone is looking after the comfort to the driver…or she’s revealing secrets when she opens her bonnet…

One of the few concept cars that is really sensible, logical and not bizzare!
