Check out that groovy choreography! And the unplugged guitars!

I just walked up and down a big damned hill on Mulholland Highway. I could no more run up and down that hill than I could fly up and down it.

It’s a bit chilly/windy to be walking with a light windbreaker and bare hands. I mean, it’s 50 out but not on the shady route I walk and not with the wind blowing. So I kept switching iPod hands and tucking my frozen thumb inside my fist.

Maybe I am not too macho for gloves.

Hooray. Hooray. Hooray. Seriously, hooray. You are looking at a free woman. Well, not really looking

Hooray. Hooray. Hooray. Seriously, hooray.

You are looking at a free woman. Well, not really looking. More reading. But I am free nonetheless. I had my last phone conversation, sent my last e-mail, wrote my last memo for the next two weeks. That’s right, dear readers, I am completely work and school free for the next 16 whole days. 16. Whole days. Free.

But I cannot believe the whirlwind over the last two days. And excuse me, but what is with the ulcer-forming bucket of crazy the day before vacation? Every single time. I coast along in the weeks leading up to the break. Nothing happens. Nothing happens. Then WHAM! 3:00 p.m. the day before I’m closing down, every thing blows up in my face. I put out fires. I listen to angry students. I send 138 individual e-mails in 3 hours. I work 22 hours over two days. I eat a pound of chocolate.

But that’s behind us, isn’t it?

I would now like to focus on the finer things in life. Like baking cookies. And shopping for presents. And listening to Christmas music. And Jesus. And presents. You know. The things you’re supposed to think about around the holidays.

I finally got the chance last night to sit back and delight in some of the gifts I’ve received from my coworkers. And no, I don’t have to wait for Christmas. It’s understood. You can open work presents whenever you want. Check the rules. I’m right. And my goodness! My coworkers spoil me. Seriously, readers, these people know how to give office gifts. Inexpensive but practical and noncommittal. The kind of gifts people exchange in their professional relationships.

Want to see the loot? I was thinking it may help you with your own holiday office shopping.

It’s a perfect sized ceramic cup that comes with a removable tea infuser and 3 packets of loose tea. It’s elegant and simple and perfect for cold weather. And it certainly gets cold here in Hawaii. At least indoors.

Fanciful Fruits Body Butter Trio ($17) I partially like this gift because it is packaged so well. The Body Shop is digging the “green” movement, so they demand you reuse this little basket. I won’t refuse. Oh, and the great thing about body butter: everyone can use it. Plus it keeps our dry elbows from grossing people out.

($7) Very nearly a perfect gift for me. I love college ruled paper. It makes me feel warm inside. And you know what my coworker said when she gave me this? “I hope you like your gift! I know how much you like to creatively write!” Does she know me or what? I love her. I love this. I love creativity.

So those are some highlights. Hope it helps trigger your brain with some more gift ideas.

I’m ready now to totally revel in the wonderfulness that is this season—and I’ve got the time to do it. I’ve got big plans, people. Big plans. But you should know. Next week will find me fighting for a parking spot and wrestling other Target shoppers to the ground. My poor sweet Brandon needs some gifts, doesn’t he?

Sorry… Don’t read it. No pics either.

Versace Crystal Noir smells like the UK. I don’t know exactly what I associate the smell of the UK with, but I know for sure that place has a particular smell. Not good, not bad. Just particular. I for one love it. As I previously said, it tells me that I’m not in Germany, France, Italy, I’m in the UK.

I got my first Versace Crystal Noir in Scotland, as a gift, and I couldn’t get the scent off my mind ever since.

It turns you into a vamp, even if just in thought. And it WILL NOT let you go. And you cannot resist it. It’s like ivy, it just wraps itself around you, gets you floating on its aroma (but in a good way) and never wanting to leave the cocoon it quickly built around you, without you even noticing. And the aroma changes quickly from powerful to loving, wrapping, warm, so… So warm. How could you leave it? You’re hooked.

As for the Clarins Eau Dynamisante… It smells like Christmas morning in front of the tree… It smells like candy, like wonderful spices…

And the White musk…Mmmmm… That smells like freshly starched sheets, somewhere in a hotel in Italy. Some place where the air is crispy and you just want to go back under the luscious cover to feel and smell the sheets again, with all your skin, in the crispy morning air. It also smells like a hotel on the beach, with the soft breeze coming through the window and caressing your skin as you lie on the bed.

And Joop, my lovely Joop… As I said it smells like the most powerful man in the world. Someone you cannot and will not deny. Not everyone can wear it though. If you don’t have what it takes, it will just smell like an inappropriate perfume, or if you wear it off season.
It smells like a spectacular person. Someone who just takes your breath away. Someone who knows exactly what he/she wants and knows how to get it. Someone like Michael Madsen. Yeah. Definitely. Someone like him… In Vengeance Unlimited. Definitely.

Gosh I love scents… And for the cold season the ones mentioned above will be all. Except for the White musk, but I couldn’t forget about it.

And it all started with a sample of the new Nina Ricci perfume, Ricci Ricci. I was just thinking that it smells like “playful in Paris”. And that before seeing the commercial with the cat in Paris. LOL Not bad, but I’m just not a Paris kind of girl. And even if Versace is Italian, it still smells like the UK.

As for one last thing, as we’re on perfumes… I miss two perfumes very much…

I got one of them when I was 12 and couldn’t find it again, still have the bottle with a bit of the perfume in it too… It’s called Identity. Apparently nobody ever heard of it so it must be magic. It really smelled like Identity.

The second one is called Sweet Courreges. Naicu gave a small bottle to me ages ago, and I’ve been loving it ever since. It can only be ordered online, and I didn’t get to do it. Couldn’t find it in any stores. That one smells like some sort of fondant. It just wraps you up in fondant and makes you feel like a pair of luscious lips covered in a thick pink (sugar tasting like) lipgloss. LOL That does sound wrong, doesn’t it?

Filters are often overlooked when evaluating the performance of a spray booth. A filter is a relatively inexpensive component of a spray booth and should be changed when necessary. Changing filters will help in avoiding poor finish jobs and unsafe conditions caused by inhibited air flow which can build toxic and combustible fumes.

Intake – Change filters when they fill with dust and dirt. Many auto body shops will change filters every two to four weeks if the booth is used daily.

Exhaust – Paint arrestor filters need to be changed under the following conditions:

When the material being sprayed may react with something that has already been sprayed with these filters so as to create a toxic or spontaneous event.

The static pressure differential is 0.5” or greater. This differential is measured on the manometer and is based on an empty booth with clean filters. Once the static pressure is above the basis line (0.5”), the exhaust filters need to be changed.

Powder coat filters can be vacuumed many times and usually last 500-1000 hours.

Please contact Tools USA for information on spray booth filters or to order replacement filters.

Today was the last day of classes!! YAY!! Time to seriously go and study…. argh!! I must learn

Today was the last day of classes!! YAY!! Time to seriously go and study…. argh!!

I must learn to love the subjects which is kinda hard to do as I have no idea what the subjects are talking about. Ugh, I think I’m going to be doing a lot of studying which I don’t really like doing. *sigh* no choice I have to do it. Really have to focus on Chem though… the only subject that I am currently failing in. I also go EASIA and Stats to worry about.

But putting the studying aside I went to WEM today and I told myself that if Fruits & Passion did not have the fragrance trio that I wanted I would go and use my $5 for something else. And that was what ended up happening. They have everything else except for the fruity scents… ugh but I picked up some other things with the money meant for the fragrances. I went into LUSH for the first time today. Yay me! Ended up getting 2 massage bars I was actually thinking about getting the Strawberry one or the Therapy one but neither smelled good. Like they were smells that didn’t describe me so I didn’t want to have that on my body. The Sales Associates were really nice and knew there stuff too not to annoying like what I read on the net. Ahaha, I got a tin for free and got two Each Peach because I really like the crispy orangey type smell to it. It melts quite quickly so I cut it up once I got home and put it in a container. I pray that it won’t like melt while sitting on top of my makeup box. But I got a backup and that one is in the tin which is great. ^_^ I think that the next time I go to LUSH that is the only type of product that I will get.

Well actually I was thinking about getting the Mask of Magniminty I believe is what it is called and it’s quite cheaper than the Body Shop but doesn’t last as long so I’m debating about that or going to go and buy the Body Shop Seaweed one. But my current mask which is Body Shop blue corn isn’t planning to run out soon I’ve used about 1/4 of it. Still a lot left to go.

The only other places that I went to were Dollar Store and Dollarama. Wait, is there a difference between them? Yes, yes there is… the Dollar store has everything for a dollar while Dollarama has stuff that is over a dollar and is labelled. I personally like the Dollar store better for like hair clips and candy and Dollarama for general stuff. So what I ended up getting from the Dollar store is 4 sour belts, and 30 hair elastics which were in a set pastel colors! Really pretty cool stuff and from Dollarama I got more running tape and nail file for a Christmas stocking. I still have a dollar left and that is for next time I go to WEM I’m going to get more sour belts. So yummy!

On the way back I decided that I would stop by Tim Hortons and get a hot chocolate because the wind made the weather really really cold!! So I stopped by there and had to try to retreat to someplace warm as quick as possible. Man, freezing cold! I bought a large hot chocolate (as I have a ongoing hate for coffee) and a donut for my sister. Camped out at my sister’s high school while waiting for her to finish up her stuff. I should buy Tim Hortons more often the stuff there is actually ok. By the time I reached my sisters high school my hot chocolate was on the verge of mildly warm. Still yummy…

Ended up coming home and my sister bullying me on the way home which is kinda strange because she is 2 years younger than me but still ends up beating me up. Hate that. So, I am off to work on homework and I smell great too!! So positive I am seriously loving the Each Peach massage bar. My sister says it smell like Pledge (cleaner for wooden surfaces) and lemongrass combined. I don’t think I smell like that but it was quite interesting taking a trip to LUSH.

I am seriously craving a Whopper from Burger King…. no must focus on studying. STUDY!!

In today’s economy, there seems to be an excess of used spray booths available due to the number of

In today’s economy, there seems to be an excess of used spray booths available due to the number of shops that have closed. We have all seen these used spray booths on E-Bay and web-based clearing houses. It seems like buying a used spray booth would be a smart and conservative decision. A spray booth purchase and installation is likely an infrequent occurrence for most companies.

Standard Tools lives in this industry every day and offers the following thoughts:
•	The owner of the spray booth likely went out of business, possibly due in part to having a wrong or bad spray booth that was poorly designed and/or improperly installed. This costs the owner significant money in delayed production and poor quality every day that it is used.
•	A used spray booth may not be complete with installation and maintenance manuals or other items that were omitted during the installation.
•	Many spray booth manufacturers have either gone out of business or have significantly changed their designs over the years. Obtaining replacement parts or information on the spray booth may be difficult, if not impossible.
•	Older paint booths may be obsolete and may not meet current building and fire codes.
•	A used spray booth may have been altered or repaired by an owner that was not experienced in spray booth design and codes.
•	Electrical items may not meet your available power.
•	Taking a spray booth down and re-installing it is more than twice the effort required to install a new booth. This is due to tracking of parts, repackaging for transport, and replacing/repairing damaged or missing parts.
•	There is no warranty. Buying a used spray booth is a gamble; buying new provides a guarantee from the manufacturer.

Most auto body shops charge $100-$200 per hour for painting, and many industrial shops charge more. The initial savings made by buying a used spray booth can quickly vanish if days or weeks are required to solve any of the problems listed above. Worse yet, there are instances in our experience where the buyer ended up throwing out the used booth and purchasing a new one.

Standard Tools recommendation is to buy a new spray booth built to your specifications and current codes. Installing an auto shop sized spray booth usually takes 2-3 men a few days to install, plus electrical and ducting work. Installing a new booth is the best way to ensure quality and throughput in your shop.

Happy belated Thanksgiving all! I spent the holiday with some extended family out in Maryland, and had a blast. Aside from family and food, my new favorite Thanksgiving past time is shopping! This season, there were some marvelous sales (that I probably didn’t take advantage of as well as I could have), and I shopped ’till I dropped (way too much money). Below, I’ve listed some of my prized bootie:

Efteråt visade mig Emma vilka produkter hon använt under behandlingen.

Your inspectors (building, electrical, fire, environmental, worker safety, etc.) are responsible for making sure that your spray booth and processes are up to code. They are generally very interested in seeing your company prosper, but they are charged with making sure that the spray booth does not negatively impact the chance of a fire, worker injury or environmental issues.

This can seem complex and overwhelming when building a new spray booth. Here are some notes to make this easier.

Know your building:
-Total volume of building (floor space X height of ceilings)
-Building and floor materials
-Distance to nearby walls (should be at least 36”)
-Distance to electrical wiring and controls
-Proximity to property lines and other buildings
-Distance to spark-producing processes, like welding or grinding
-Escape routes for fires and other emergencies (aka egress)

Know your project:
-Obtain drawings and specifications from the spray booth manufacturer
-Have contractor information for electrical/fire/ducting
-Be prepared to give information about building the spray booth and subcontracting specific processes

Know your process:
-Obtain MSDS sheets for materials to be sprayed
-Be prepared to provide a plan for storage/mixing/waste management/training.

Know your plan:
-talk to your local inspectors before buying the spray booth (Do you need ETL certification? Are your inspectors influenced by other local spray booth incidents)
-submit a simple site plan (This goes a long way with letting your inspectors feel that you are open with them and wish to meet all code requirements.)

Know your support:
-Standard Tools can help you by providing information about the product and general code information.
-More information is available on the Tools USA blog by searching ‘permit’ or by contacting us at 800.451.2425.

b is for…

Bellevue’s Singing Christmas Tree

If you live in Memphis, then you’ve heard of the famous “Singing Christmas Tree.” For those of you unfamiliar with this modern wonder, I will fill you in. The Singing Christmas tree is a 70 foot Christmas tree that people can stand (and sing) in. Every year around the holidays, the Tree (filled with a choir) is the star of Bellevue’s Christmas musical. The soloist with the best voice even gets to stand at the very top- just beneath the giant star.

I am sure that Bellevue has updated its program since I was regularly in attendance, but the SCT from my (early 90’s) memory had a lot of this going on…BIG hair, BIG costumes, BIG jazz hands. They also did a number where they turned out the lights, turned on a giant black light, and all you could see was the white gloves everyone in the tree was wearing. Let me tell you something. You haven’t seen Jazz Hands until you’ve seen them on a giant Christmas tree under a black light. It gave me the chills every time…

B is for B-elieve it!

Every year when I was a child, she and I would put on our most festive holiday turtlenecks and pile into Granny and Grandpa’s enormous tank (aka their Lincoln Town Car) to go to the show. It was a big deal. As if the gigantor tree wasn’t enough to keep us coming back for more every year, I remember other highlights: an angel raised high above the audience by wires as he proclaimed glad tidings of great joy, real live sheep and camels on stage in the stable!!

This year I am back in Memphis, and I am going to go. Apparently, even the SCT is not immune to these economic times because the free tickets now cost $3-12. But is $12 really so much to pay when I’m getting a trip down memory lane, a 70 foot singing tree, and camels in return?

b is for…

BODY BUTTER!!!

This stuff from The Body Shop has been around for-ev-er, and I hope that it stays around forever too. It comes in about a gabazillion varieties , some of which, I must say, are better than others (see below).

$20 for 6.9 oz. 6.9 oz is more than it sounds like…

The old saying, “There is no such thing as a free lunch”, supports the concept that you cannot get “

The old saying, “There is no such thing as a free lunch”, supports the concept that you cannot get “something for nothing.” Many internet businesses advertise “free freight” so consumers will believe they are getting a great deal. Merchants are actually just hiding freight and shipping costs by marking up the price of the product. Freight and shipping providers expect to be paid for their services which include packing, palletizing, loading, documentation, transporting, unloading, and insurance. These services can account for up to 50% of a product’s cost and it is you, the consumer, who pays for this whether it is included in the product price or added separately.

Tools USA chooses to itemize these charges to be upfront with our customers. We will do everything we can to offer the best freight pricing without lowering our standards. Our shipping department makes every effort to ship your paint booth or frame machine in a manner that allows for easy offloading, which includes arranging a carrier and extending the discounts provided to us by our shipping partners. When possible, a flatbed is used to transport larger automotive body shop equipment.

At Tools USA our product knowledge is superior because we manufacture many of our products. This enables us to provide “great customer service” which includes accessibility, support, and innovation. So, when you are shopping for a spray booth, frame rack, powdercoat system, or other auto body tools and equipment, make sure you do your research. Free freight may seem like a bargain at first, but in the end products with free freight may not provide the value anticipated by consumers.

Remember the banana collection, fuzzy peach, and ice blue products? Retro-style packaging will accompany the launch

Dewberry-scented bath and shower gel will also be resurrected, after a poll conducted by YouGov in June 2009 found that 44% of British women remember it fondly. 63% said that they also recall the personal care products provider’s anti animal testing campaign, which was launched in the same decade.

The Body Shop’s ethical credentials were questioned when it was sold to L’Oreal in 2006, for £652m.
