They come in multiple fruity “flavours”, smells yummylicious BUT is too thick for use in hot, humid Singapore. Because they’re so thick, they feel like butter smoothed on the skin, literally – leaving a sticky residue. It, however, works fantastic in cold winters when the skin is always thirsty for moisture, leaving no sticky residue.

Hiyo!

I’ve been so MIA from this blog lately, it’s not even funny. It’s sad to say I’ve completely abandonned the “body” part of this experiment – though if commuting four hours every days counts, I’m still in My acne problems have returned lately, and after unsuccessfully using a product my doctor recommended, I’ve turned to Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash. Just washed my face with it five minutes ago, and so far, my face feels clean, but a tad dry, so I’ll have to remember more moisturizer for next time.

Now on to the drama-rama part – I’m avoiding my problems, namely a paper I have to write for my biotechnology class which I’m TOTALLY avoiding! I just had a half-week break last week, and throughout all that, I managed to avoid doing much on the said paper. It’s so annoying and I know I should just get it over with already, but I don’t want to! (as childish as that might sound ^^”).

*sighs* well, we can certainly tell not taking care of your mind+body+self does have a negative effect, that’s something to note. Hopefully, the winter holidays will bring joy, exercise, a clear face and some recreational reading.

Until next time,

Another day of leaf pick-up for me. My goal was to get two of the six large piles cleaned up. I finished one pile by 12:30, then came into the house for lunch. I heated up some of Hubby’s leftover pizza and had just started eating when he came home from his parents’ house. He told me to put my food away; his folks had invited us to lunch.

After lunch, I went to the doctor’s office and had a physical. When I returned, I found Hubby using the leaf blower, chasing acorns and other little bits of debris into the second pile of leaves I was planning to pick up. He finished the area he was working on, leaving the grass looking like perfectly combed hair. While I picked up the second pile, he went around to the backyard and continued his leaf blowing.

Young Son arrived home from school and I enlisted him to help with leaves. Together, we managed to clean up all six piles. Woohoo! (I’ll be sore tomorrow – heck, I’m sore now – but at least we’re done.) The trailer was filled and our compost heap became a towering mass of leaves.

Compost pile filled with leaves.

Meanwhile, Hubby continued his leaf blowing meditation. Young Son and I commented to each other about how he seemed to be abnormally obsessive about cleaning the lawn this year. We guessed it had something to do with the new leaf blower. Hubby admitted as much, saying that using the leaf blower was relaxing. He’s a regular Zen Master Leaf Blower.

I know that children are a blessing and that they should always be protected. Babies and little children look towards their mothers primarily for that unconditional bond of love, trust and safety.

It is incredible to think that people can be so cruel and inhuman to children. It is sick that a mother could sexually molest their own child, and unthinkable to think that a mother would profit from the sexual molestation of her own small child, it is uncomfortable for me to have to even be aware that it is even possible.

Today, the AP is reporting that this very thing has happened. A missing innocent little child, Shaniya Davis has been found dead, at the hands of her own mother , who pimped her out to a sexual deviant. The precious little baby girl had no chance at life, at the hands of her worthless, and heartless mother.

She deserves all of societies contempt and hatred for this unspeakable act of man’s inhumanity to man.

Searchers found Shaniya Davis’ body early Monday afternoon about 100 feet off a road southeast of Sanford, in central North Carolina, Fayetteville Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. She declined to comment on a cause of death or the condition of Shaniya’s body.

The missing 5 year old’s own mother, Antoinette Davis, 25 is charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse.

An accomplice, Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, will face kidnapping charges. He was seen on surveillance footage carrying Shaniya at a Sanford hotel. As a result, another man who was arrested last week has been freed.

Davis reported Shaniya missing last Tuesday.Authorities first arrested a man named Clarence Coe, but charges against him were dropped a day later when investigators tracked down McNeill after receiving a tip from a hotel employee.

Additional information led investigators to a search site near Sanford on Sunday. They continued searching Monday, scouring miles of landscape, roads, ravines and fields on four-wheelers and with helicopters.

According to arrest documents cited by The Fayetteville Observer, Davis “knowingly provide(d) Shaniya Davis with the intent that she be held in sexual servitude” and she “permit(ted) an act of prostitution.”

Shaniya had only been living with her mother since last month, when Shaniya’s father, Bradley Lockhart, decided to let her stay with her mother.

Lockhart said he had raised his daughter for several years but last month thought it would be good for his daughter to be raised by her mother.”I should’ve never let her go over there,” he said Saturday.

Lockhart told The Associated Press on Saturday that he and Davis never argued about him raising Shaniya, and Cumberland County courts had no record of a custody dispute. He described his relationship with Davis as a “one-night stand” and said he did not know McNeill.

Davis struggled financially over the years, but she recently obtained a job and her own place, so Lockhart said he decided to give her a chance to raise their daughter

It proved to be a death sentence for his daughter, and he must be shocked to find out that he delivered his baby daughter into the hands of her mother who is a monster. Prostituting your 5-year-old baby daughter is an activity that one has probably been involved with before.

I bet little Shaniya was excited to be with her mother, as all little baby 5 year olds would be.

I demand that they force her to turn over all the names and information of the sick pedophiles that she had sold her daughter to for the past four weeks prior to her murder.

After Shaniya’s body was found, a solemn group of searchers met quietly at a nearby fire station to ensure that all volunteers were accounted for.

“We were hoping that someone could carry her home,” said Syd Severe, 42, who came from Raleigh to help with the search. “It’s just sick.”

Authorities have said McNeill admitted to taking the girl, though his attorney says he will plead not guilty to the charge. They have not said if McNeill and Davis knew each other.

Miss Davis’s aunt, Leona Cromertie, said her niece also had a son and was pregnant.

I cite this as a case that is worthy of the death penalty.

I pray that this child can find peace in death, because the realization of the torture and sexual abuse that she endured up until the molester snapped her neck or however he killed this beautiful innocent child is unbearable for me to comprehend.

A while back I was distraught after experiencing an incredible meditation in which I felt such inten

A while back I was distraught after experiencing an incredible meditation in which I felt such intense love and opening inside of myself. Coming back to life on earth with my more limited conciousness was a downright drag, everything paling in comparison to that incredible experience. Over the last week or so, I’ve felt like my purpose is to bring that conciousness to me in my life and to affect others with it using my talents.

A talent that I first realized I had when I was maybe 15 years old, the ability to use energy to heal, is opening and developing so intensely since I’ve been doing this experiment that I am nearly flabbergasted. Energy is pulsing and poring through my hands, always when I do yoga and meditate, when I have massaged Bryan, my boyfriend, and various other times. Last night, Bryan told his wing chun student Charlie that he just had to feel the energy coming from my hands. Charlie was game, so I ran the energy into his shoulder. Charlie didn’t feel it at first but after about 3 minutes, it kicked on big time and he was dumbfounded. He felt incredible heat, tingling and energy pouring down his arm. Eventually he began to feel his whole body pulsate.

We have a surface temperature thermomator originally bought for ghost hunting, so Bryan took it out. The temperature difference under my hands on his shoulder was three degrees hotter than elsewhere. I asked Bryan to hand me my crystals, using the quartz in my right hand to amplify the energy, and an obsidian stone in my left to ground. Immediately the energy intensified and the crystal began to vibrate so intensely it felt like they, especially the quartz, was moving in my hand. Bryan whipped out the thermometer and the heat had increased another two degrees!

It was great validation for me. But today was better. A am staying at my brother’s house and I decided to wash my car behind the house. The back of the garage abuts a street. As I began to clean out the garbage pile that was my car (not now it’s sparkling!), a dog walker starts coming down the street with 10-14 dogs, all very obedient I might add. Suddenly one of the dogs lays down and proceeds to have a very, very intense seizure. The poor boy was frothing at the mouth, tongue hanging out. The lady kept calm, and thankfully so did the dogs. I asked her if I could help. Unsure, she says no and calls her dog walking partner to come pick the dog up…but he’s out with his dogs! So, I walk over and tell her that I’m an energy healer and I’m going to give the dog energy and maybe it’ll help. She didn’t say too much. I’m thinking this dog’s a goner…but maybe I can comfort him. I put my hands on him and begin running energy. It starts running strongly immediately, and within 30 seconds the dog gets up and is fine. I followed the lady with my car to her car to make sure she makes it back with George okay and off they went.

I realize that the energy healing I did may not have been the cause of the seizure ending, but it may have been. The timing was curious. Regardless, I felt such a sense of calm when it all happened; it was like I channelled the meditative state that I have been practicing. I can’t even express how incredible it felt to help this dog, even if it was just to calm him and let him feel the love and energy flowing from me. I know he felt it. I felt us connected in those moments.

This is why I am here. This is what it’s all about for me and it is beautiful.

Namaste.

Pain experienced in the lower part of the back body is a fairly frequent phenomenon in the humans and is normally is seen in all at several or the other point in their lives. The simplicity of the hurting is time and again isolated to the damage that has caused it. Whereas a uncomplicated hurt in the rear can initiate intolerable pain, a displaced disk may perhaps go out to be quite painless. What are the causes of low back pain.

Busy week coming up, with a big proposal due at work by Thursday. Yesterday the Steelers lost to the Bengals—-AGAIN. We are behind the 8-ball now in the division. Other things big and small, personal and merely anecdotal, have churned up my water lately. I don’t always need to completely escape time to feel healing like I described in my last post; sometimes I just need a little warm space, an aura rather than a whole forest to surround me. Coffee or, as of the past 5 years or so, a latte usually does the trick.

Coffee is not merely a drink, it’s also a ritual. A whole suite of rituals, actually, spanning all the diverse socioeconomic strata in this country. For me, that first sip from a cup filled to the brim is like exhaling deeply. The taste fans out like a delta over your tongue and you press it up against the roof of your mouth, bitter and sweet and hot. Suddenly whatever obstacle is in your path doesn’t seem quite so insurmountable. Whatever tragedy you’re in the middle of, for a second you’re not alone. I’m aware of the fact that the same might be said by an addict about any number of drugs, legal or illicit. I don’t care. Everyone has their limits and needs. So far this one hasn’t interfered with my ability to make a living, cost me any friends, or gotten me arrested. There’s something about curling your hand around a cup that’s comforting in a way that holding a fork or spoon doesn’t deliver. I think it’s the contact with the fleshy palm vs. the bony fingers.

Some days when I pick up a cup from Starbucks I feel like Gollum from The Hobbit cradling the ring: “Oh, my Precious…come here, my PRECIOUS…”

JEEMUTHAVAHAN
In those days, snakes used to talk.
Jeemuthavahan saw a mother snake weeping .
What is the matter, Maji? he asked.
Today, it is the turn of my only son, to go to the top of the hill and await Garuda. You know he is too cute and I will not live after his death, said the mother snake.
After hearing their representations, Vishnu, whose vehicle the hawk named Garud is, agreed to their suggestion that, every day they will offer one snake to Garud; he should not pick at random any snake, as was his habit.

Jeemuthavahan thought for some time. He said: do not worry, Maji. Today, you will not send your son. I will talk to Garud.
At noon, Garud appeared in the sky, casting a shadow over the whole hill, his giagantic wings hiding the sky like dark clouds. He came close to the hill, but was annoyed , finding no snake there. He was curious , as something moved under the cloth, placed at the spot meant for the snake, as if there was some body inside. Garud pecked and pulled off flesh, blood flowing profusely from that object, whom Garud thought was his prey. When he removed the cover, it was Jeemuthavahan.
Garud fell prostrate before him and vowed never to eat a snake again !

Jeemuthavahan was the King of that land, a great devotee of Vishnu !

The body of Chicago school board President Michael Scott was found floating in the Chicago river. His death comes as a suprising twist of fate as the well known administrator had vanished hours before.

According to police, Scott’s body was found near the Merchandise Mart early Monday in the River North neighborhood with a gunshot wound to the head.

Scott was reported missing from his home in Monroe Sunday. His blue Cadillac was found nearby and towed away from the scene. An autopsy will be performed today to determine the exact cause of death.

His good friend Reverend Jesse Jackson spoke out about his friend’s death to local news outlets saying,

“Everyone thought Michael was their guy. People are so very sad. .. . The suddenness of it all — midday has become midnight. The sun has been eclipsed.”

Is it just me or does it seem like violence is growing rampantly in Chicago? This is ridiculous! Something’s gotta change.

Ew. Ow. Shots. Ew. At this point, Swine Flu (or H1N1 if we want to be politically correct) has been

Ew. Ow. Shots. Ew.

At this point, Swine Flu (or H1N1 if we want to be politically correct) has been branded into our consciousness. It seems like we can’t go anywhere without seeing a poster or a commercial telling us to protect ourselves. Suddenly the lessons we learned in grammar school are being made into multi-million dollar ad campaigns. “Wash your hands! Cover your mouth when you cough!”

It’s a little ridiculous how much everyone is freaking out. Then again, whenever I see someone sneeze I run in the other direction in fear that I will soon sprout a tail and oink all the way to the emergency room. So am I avoiding this swine flu like the plague? Hell yes. But when it comes to the vaccine, I’m not as sure.

I want to be as protected as possible, but I also don’t want to throw myself under the bus by injecting this mysterious killer into my blood stream. I talk to one person and feel like it’s the best thing since sliced bread, then the next minute someone else has me convinced that I would be making the worse mistake of my life.

It’s painfully clear: I’m torn.

Love It

Isn’t this what everyone has been praying for? Since this thing emerged we’ve been sitting with fingers crossed in our surgical masks and rubber gloves while researchers searched for a vaccine to prevent it, and now it’s finally here. Research also says that college students are at the highest risk for serious infection and even with those Purell bottles in every lecture hall/classroom/dorm on campus, it seems stupid to even consider not getting the vaccine. Why wouldn’t I protect myself if given the chance? Plus, I can get it super cheap (if not for free) at my school’s health center. It really seems like a no-brainer.

Loathe It

Okay, I’ve heard one too many horror stories and I’m not having it. Some people have had horrible reactions to the vaccine; others have been infected and gotten really sick afterward. I’m trying to avoid this virus at all costs, so it seems pretty stupid to willingly let someone inject it into my body. Plus I hate needles with a passion (especially when they are filled with the Swine) so it seems like a better deal to just go hang out in the health center next to Sniffy McSniffles, inhale some of whatever he’s got and hope my body fights it off and gets stronger. Plus, I’ve never gotten the flu shot before and have always managed to come out of flu season unscathed, so why start now?

What do you guys think? Yay or neigh oink for the Swine Flu vaccine?

Haven’t run in 6 days. A combination of a delightful bunion and old running shoes, I ended up with bruising and swelling on the ball of my foot after my last run on Week 2/Day 1. I let it rest, did kickboxing on Saturday. And tried again today.

Hubby was sweet to offer me a window to run this am, while he watched the little one.

Today’s Run:

Total Time: 42 min

Total Distance: 2.74 miles

Intervals:

Warm Up: 5 min

3 min run/1 min walk x 8 cycles

Cool Down: 5 min

Heart Rate:

Runs: 150s-160s, 167 max

Walks: 130s-140s

I ran later in the morning and it got a little hot. Struggled with the last three cycles. Cycle 6 & 7 I did 2:30 run/1:30 walk in order to get my heart rate into the 130s for recovery.

I must buy new shoes before my next run.

To read media accounts relating to H1N1 and seasonal flu one would certainly come to the conclusion

To read media accounts relating to H1N1 and seasonal flu one would certainly come to the conclusion that we are under microbial attack. It is implied in these accounts that if you are prudent you may somehow avoid exposure to the bulk of these disease-causing germs. The truth is that germs are everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Not only are they everywhere, but they are present in such large concentrations that to think that you can avoid them is about as foolish as thinking that if you run fast you can avoid being hit by rain drops in a torrential downpour- it is simply not possible.

The good news is that germs are nothing new to us- they were some of the earliest inhabitants of earth and we grew up with them, in an evolutionary sense. They live on our skin and in our digestive tract. It is estimated that in your gut alone there are over 100 trillion organisms. We are literally swimming in a sea of bacteria, fungi, and single-celled organisms, and yet we usually manage to get along with each other just fine, and even have a mutually beneficial relationship most of the time. As with all ecosystems, our relationship with germs is a delicate balancing act- sometimes conditions favor certain of them and sometimes it favors us, the host. What is important to understand is that we are part of the same ecosystem and depend on each other. To think that we can eradicate them is utter folly, and is not in our long-term best interests anyway.

There are times when they get the upper hand and it is wonderful that we have such things as antibiotics to keep them from killing us outright. However, to broaden this emergency measure and think that the solution to germs is to kill them all off, simply will not work. Our feeble attempts to tilt the balance in our favor by wide-spread and excessive antibiotic and antiseptic use has mostly served to accelerate the evolution of these organisms and has made them much more powerful foes. What we have to do is accept that we are linked through our evolutionary history and accept that, like living with your in-laws, sometimes you just have to make the best of it. Your real job, especially during this time of year, is to make sure that your body is strong and balanced and thus a poor breeding-ground for germs.

Here are some things that you can do during cold and flu season to keep your immune system strong:

1. Avoid sugar and processed foods-these things weaken your immune system.

2. Get plenty of rest. A well-rested body is a strong body.

3. Find ways to reduce stress. Chronic stress weakens cellular immunity.

4. Eat a balanced diet. This is one of your most powerful weapons against disease and infection.

5. Exercise regularly. Vigorous exercise has been shown to have a stimulating effect on the immune system.

6. Take vitamin D-3, especially if you are not getting any sun exposure during the winter. D-3 has a very potent impact on immune function. Talk to your doctor on dosage.

7. Take probiotic supplements. 80% of your immune system surrounds your gut and caring for your gut ecology will help you fight disease-causing microbes.

8. Get adjusted regularly- chiropractic adjustments reduce stress and stimulate immune function.

9. Wash your hands, but use good, old-fashioned soap and warm water. It can’t hurt to limit exposure because maybe you aren’t perfect at all of the other measures above.

It is, of course, a tragedy when anyone succumbs to the flu or other infectious disease, but I think all of us should remain calm and simply do what we can to fortify ourselves from the inside. That strategy has always been, and still is, our best assurance of staying healthy. I am confident that when the dust settles on the H1N1 issue we will look back and find that it was scarcely more severe or virulent than the regular, seasonal flu. Not that either flu strain should be taken lightly, but it is important to keep things in perspective, especially when the media is in the middle of a feeding frenzy and the pharmaceutical companies stand to make billions- something to ponder.

Be Healthy,

Police searching for 5-year-old Shaniya Davis in a wooded area off N.C. 87 near Sanford say they are looking for a body.

Based on “reliable information,” they believe her body may have been dumped off Walker Road near its intersection with the highway, said police spokeswoman Theresa Chance.

About 250 people and two helicopters are searching both sides of Walker Road near where it intersects with N.C. 87. They include police and sheriff’s deputies from Fayetteville, Sanford and Lee County, fire department personnel and civilians who live in the area and who know the woods.

At a press briefing at 10:30 a.m., Chance said people have been turning out in droves to offer help but no more volunteer searchers are currently needed. She said civilians who want to help can call the police at 433-1820 to volunteer.

Meantime, the State Highway Patrol issued a ‘be on the lookout for’ advisory this morning, saying that they’re looking for a man who had been spotted with Davis. The man is believed to be about 60 years old and driving a blue Toyota, according to an official with the Highway Patrol. He may be in the vicinity of Raeford Road or Cliffdale Road.

Chance said police are following up any and all tips but are still concentrating their search for Shaniya on Walker Road.

At a press conference at the search site at 9 a.m. today, Chance said police had received some tips.

She said Mario Andrette McNeill, who has admitted to kidnapping Shaniya and is in custody, has been “extremely uncooperative” but has given some information to police.

Chance said McNeill is known to frequent Sanford. He was arrested Thursday after being identified as being with Shaniya Tuesday morning at the Comfort Suites hotel in Sanford. The two were seen on a surveillance tape at 6:11 a.m. Chance said police know McNeill left the motel with Shaniya at about 7:30 a.m. but they don’t know what condition Shaniya was in at that point.

I previously have written about this rock back last year on my running blog, then again in a reprint

I previously have written about this rock back last year on my running blog, then again in a reprint in July on this blog and referenced it in a post later that month. This morning, I found the rock underneath my desk and after I cleaned the cat hair off of it, I took the above photo.

Rather than repeat the unrealistic goals I set for myself, I will summarize: Get up way too early to

Read the Liturgy of the Hours

Exercise (run or gym) and

Read books about running, specifically by George Sheehan, John Bingham and/or Jeff Galloway, to get motivated for rest of day.

Now the parts that are unrealistic are neither the exercise nor the reading, and maybe surprisingly not the early (well at least for me) either. The parts that are unrealistic are two-fold:

“Too early,” with a goal of getting up by 5:30 a.m., which happens also to be the time my wife gets up.

The order of the parts with starting with the Scripture readings, then the exercise, then the reading, also at specific times: 5:30, 6:30, then 7:30. As if I’m in the military and will get lashes if I don’t adhere to that schedule.

As to No. 1, because not to be too crude, one of the first things I need to do after I get up is visit the…um…lavatory, I’d rather not conflict with my wife’s…um…”lavatory time.” So 5:30 is out and also my wife likes to have time “to decompress” to start her day so I don’t want to conflict with that. So with that in mind, what’s more realistic?

I’m thinking 7 a.m. because then I should be able to get out the door to exercise whether gym (still need to renew membership, especially for the winter) or run by 7:30 a.m. (and with winter, 7:30 a.m. won’t be too hot).

As for No. 2 with the order, I’ll exercise first because I’m afraid if I start with reading, I’ll just be tempted to go back to bed or even lie down and…ahem…”mediate” while I’m reading. Then I can do the readings with breakfast and not lock in a time, because who knows how long I’ll be out on certain days. I am especially thinking of the days where I’m just beginning this and won’t be running, but walking. It might end up being an hour/hour and half of walking around town instead of a good solid half hour/hour of running.

Normally, I’m up by 8 a.m. anyway so an extra hour getting up is not going to hurt and I know in the past when I have gotten up earlier and exercised early, it gives me more energy through the day. So without further adieu, I begin tomorrow.

Here’s They Might Be Giants with “We Want A Rock,” part of the lyrics which I used as the title for this post:

Day Dreaming

Her body pulsating, she was yearning to be touched. She craved seduction. Her chest was heaving in and out trying to suppress the longing for a man’s touch.

As she fought back the urge to satisfy herself her nipples grew harder. The slightest breeze sent her body into erotic mode. When she closed her eyes to fight off the feelings, she saw thick dicks that she longed to suck.

Just the thought of sitting and grinding made her wet. If she shifted in her seat she felt her nut ready to fall at any second. She had to think of something. Could she make it through the work day with these feelings? Talking to her self, saying she had more control then her body had over her. She thought, “I can control this”, but her body was too powerful. She found her self pretending to keep her hands warm rubbing her thighs, then she would brush off her top like strands of hair were her biggest concern. No it was the bulging nipples she wanted to play with. No one was the wiser since her bra had padding. To others she appeared to just be staying neat, but she was really worried about the heat, yes the heat from the inferno between her legs.

When she tightened her legs trying to cut off the urge to touch, rub, and squeeze her vagina the vibration from her shiver made things worse. So, she could find no relief. The last time she went to the restroom she had to pad the tissue so the mere touch of it would not make her squirt cum on her hand. By now she thought, “I will have to go take care of this”. “I can’t concentrate”. “I can’t focus when spoken to”. “All I can see is sex and it looks so good”. “I have to have it”.

She was losing it; her body had completely taken over. She found her self putting her hand in her shirt appearing to be holding her shoulder, but when no one was looking getting as close to her breast as possible.

She wanted to be home so she could really enjoy the moment. You know, eyes closed…just thinking about it she started to caress her self as if she was at home. Her arms then, belly and down her thighs. She had lost the sense of being at work and was now going for the pleasure she so desperately wanted.

She removed her self from her office, politely, and went to the restroom. Once inside the stall she raised her blouse and pulled down her pants. She squeezed and pulled her nipples while she rubbed the lips of her pussy. Feeling the wet hot juice flowing from her body she felt her clit get harder and harder. By this time she was vigorously patting her clit and pressing over the top of her pussy. She was enjoying the indulgence of masturbation that made her cum in minutes. The rush it gave her had her glowing as she washed her hands with a smirk of satisfaction on her face. Now she was just looking for the next dick to devour because that quick nut just wasn’t enough!

Attempting to lose weight can be seriously stressful when you feel like you have to follow a laundry

Attempting to lose weight can be seriously stressful when you feel like you have to follow a laundry list of rules—don’t eat after 7 pm, banish white flour, etc., etc.—in addition to hitting the dreaded treadmill and the stinky weight-room. According to Women’s Health magazine, however, it’s possible to shed pounds successfully without listening to every piece of diet advice that gets thrown around (or, you know, printed in Women’s Health).

What are the diet rules you can break?

Eat many small meals a day instead of three big meals:

Many people insist that eating small portions throughout the day instead of stuffing your face with three big meals will lead to weight-loss by revving your metabolism and keeping it going from morning until night. But Women’s Health points out that if you’re eating multiple times a day, you’re running the risk of consuming more calories than you might if you stuck to breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack. Instead, make sure that mealtimes are defined by fiber-rich foods and lean proteins (those will fill you up without packing in the calorie), and leave the daylong grazing to the farm animals.

Brown rice and whole wheat breads and pastas are better than their evil white flour twins:

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if your pasta is white as long as you’re consuming the recommended six ounces of carbohydrates each day. Women’s Health says that a study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association reports that people on high-carb diets were slimmer than their carb-banning counterparts even when they consumed “bad carbs.” While you should make sure that half of your daily carbohydrate intake comes from whole grains, white bread isn’t going to lead to weight gain any more than whole-wheat bread if you keep your portion sizes small.

Don’t eat after dark:

Women’s Health quotes doctor Ann G. Kulze, who explains that the body handles calories in the same exact way no matter what time they’re consumed. Figure out how many calories you should be consuming each day – this number depends on your age, height and activity level – and stick to it. To make sure that you have enough energy to fuel your daily activities, you should spread out caloric intake throughout the day. But if you eat two cookies at 9 p.m., you’re not going to gain any more weight than you would if you ate them at 6.

Ban desserts:

Putting foods on the do-not-touch list only makes you want them more and can lead to binges. Eating dessert is okay as long as you tweak your diet accordingly, which means eating less for dinner and picking desserts like chocolate-dipped fruit and sorbets instead of ice-cream sundaes. Women’s Health points out that restaurant dessert portions are often ridiculously large and high in calories—an Applebee’s chocolate chip cookie sundae, for example, contains 1,620 calories, more than many people should be consuming all day long! The magazine also suggests re-thinking the traditional idea of dessert when you want to indulge. Your after dinner treat doesn’t need to be chocolate; a craving for something sweet can be met in the form of a yogurt and cereal parfait.
