Komparasi Mobile Browsers Pada Samsung M 3510 Beat b

Sesuai dengan tag line bahwa blog ini tidak hanya sekedar bicara tentang berita dan fakta seputar Samsung M3510 Beat b. Tapi juga akan berisikan informasi tentang aplikasi-aplikasi Java™ yang bisa diinstall padanya. Untuk Posting kali ini saya akan memberikan sedikit perbandingan tentang beberap browser mobile yang ternyata jumlahnya ada beberapa, tidak sekedar yang kita ketahui saja.

Langsung saja, disini saya akan membahas tentang 4 Mobile browser, yaitu Opera Mini, UCWEB, Bolt dan TeaShark. Keempatnya sudah saya coba pada hand phone Samsung Beat b yang saya miliki.

1. Opera Mini 5 Beta

Menggunakan Opera Mini sungguh sangat menyenangkan saya rasa, karena browser ini adalah yang paling sering saya pakai. Disamping karena terkenalnya browser ini, juga didukung dengan berbgai kemudahan yang ditawarkannya. Apalagi ada fasilitas tab-ed browsing layaknya di browser versi PC, ada lagi dengan speed dialnya. Makin keren deh aplikasi ini.

Namun sayangnya agak berat kalau dirasa-rasa dalam penggunaannya. Disamping itu juga sering mengalami error saat kita mau menyiompan satu halaman atau cuman sekedar gambar. Tidak seringan versi 4.2 yang berjalan dengan lancar pada ponsel Samsung M3510 Beat b.

2.UCWEB

Bagi saya ini adalah saingan terberatnya Opera Mini™, bagaimana tidak? Kalau bicara soal kecepatan, juga tidak kalah cepat, loadingnya saya rasa jauh lebih ringan kalau kita mau membandingkan, bahkan jika dibandingkan dengan Opera Mini 4.2 sekalipun. Tetapi dia memiliki kemampuan multi tab, download manager dan juga skin yang bisa diganti dengan cepat.

Terlebih, saat kita berada di start page, di situ akan ada recommended site, kalau kita memang sudah dari saat downloadnya pilih Indonesia maka otomatis akan ada berbgai situs yang memang cocok baget buat kita orang Indonesia. Dalam cool sites recommended itu dibagi dalam berbagai kategori, mulai dari portal ada kompas, yahoo!, detik dan juga vivanews. Setelah itu ada juga ke social networking yang di dalamnya ada facebook dan juga tweeter. Video, forum dan juga masih banyak kategori lainnya. Tapi sayang sejauh saya tahu, untuk facebook ternyata kurang tepat alamatnya, sehingga nantinya akan error. Youtube lancar sampai page video, tapi buat play juga ga bisa ternyata.

3. TeaShark dan Bolt

Kenapa yang ini saya gabungkan? Ya karena memang kedua browser ini adalah yang paling berat untuk dijalankan. Meskipun memang bisa di install, namun pada kenyataannya sangat tidak nyaman dalam menggunakan keduanya. Memang Bolt bisa memainkan video YouTube langsung di Ponsel Samsung M3510. Tapi ternyata keduanya seringkali mengalami error dengan tampilannya kalau kita men-scroll halaman. Sering nampak seperti komputer yang super lambat, atau kekurangan RAM gitu deh, tampilannya seringkali tumpuk-tumpuk ga jelas.

Praktis, saya tidak menginstall mereka lama, karena error yang menyebalkan, lebih baik saya hapus aplikasi ini dan menggunakan space yang ada untuk aplikasi yang berguna lainnya semisal Qur’an.

Grę zakupiłem już dosyć dawno temu za 12zł, a za kolejne 10 – dodatek SpecForce. Początkowo gra mnie raczej nie zachwyciła: dubbing lekko irytował jak również ogromna ilość terenu do przemierzania. Zdziwił mnie również duży rozrzut broni, co zmusza gracza do bardziej taktycznego myślenia. Wtedy to po jakimś czasie przypomniałem sobie, że gram w grę sprzed 2005 roku.

W grze przeszedłem 2 misje po czym odłożyłem na półkę. Wróciłem do niej kilka dni temu, z powodu zamiaru kupna nowego, większego monitora, a co za tym idzie pracującego na wyższych rozdzielczościach. Cóż mogę powiedzieć: im głębiej w grę tym lepiej. Zgłębiając fabułę coraz chętniej wystrzeliwujemy kolejnych przeciwników.

Gra posiada miłą dla oka oprawę wizualną i duże przestrzenie do pokonywania, co na początku mnie irytowało lecz z biegiem czasu stawało się plusem. Ze strony wizualnej straszą jedynie animacje, które są często niepłynne i… brzydkie po prostu. Do tego dołączona jest również dosyć klimatyczna muzyczka, która “przenosi” nas w przyszłość. Warto również napomnieć o różnorodności poziomów, bo pogramy w dżungli, na pustyni, w śnieżnych klimatach oraz w wielu kompleksach.

Walka wymaga odrobiny myślenia, bo “na rambo” szturmować się nie da. Dużą pomocą są tutaj implanty, które znacznie ułatwiają rozgrywkę. Właściwie to korzystałem głównie z dwóch: spowolnienia czasu i zmniejszonego rozrzutu – poza misjami skradankowymi, gdzie zmuszeni byliśmy korzystać z niewidzialności. Jesteśmy zmuszeni często się kryć za zasłonami, jako iż wrogowie są bardzo celni, lecz poza chwilką myślenia, walka nie sprawia żadnych problemów – amunicji jak i apteczek jest pod dostatkiem, mimo iż nasz ekwipunek jest ograniczony. Szkoda, że nie wykorzystano dobrze potencjału bossów i poza zwiększoną liczbą obrażeń jakie zadają i implantami nie wyróżniają się sposobem walki ani niczym innym. Walka z nimi wygląda jak z 20 zwykłymi żołnierzami w jednej osobie. Chciałbym zaznaczyć, że grałem na normalnym poziomie trudności.

Cieszy pojawienie się w grze pojazdów, jednak model jazdy jest niedopracowany. Pojazdy terenowe strasznie słabo trzymają się podłoża i często zacinają się na niewidzialnych teksturach. Ścigacze również często dziwnie zachowują się przy spotkaniu z różnymi przeszkodami terenu. Walkerami steruje się zaś dosyć niewygodnie.

Fabuła być może nie bije na głowę, lecz stoi na wysokim poziomie. Już na samym początku gry mamy konkretny zwrot akcji i kilka w dalszej części gry. Cieszy też możliwość podjęcia wyboru w jednej sytuacji na końcu gry. Dubbing jak i sposób narracji stoi na bardzo przeciętnym poziomie. Spodobała mi się natomiast mini-gierka hackowania terminali. Nie jest ona zbytnio wymagająca, lecz urozmaica rozgrywkę, a przypomina grę w Piotrusia samemu.

Do dyspozycji zostało nam oddane 14 broni, w tym: shotguny, karabiny snajperskie, szturmowe, bronie energetyczne oraz wyrzutnia rakiet. Nie jest to zbyt dużo, nie jest to również drastycznie mało – po prostu przeciętnie. Ważne, że bronie są dosyć rozbudowane i prócz oprawy wizualnej różnią się różnymi parametrami, jak chociażby zasięg, rozrzut czy też pojemność magazynka.

Chrome może spodobać się starszym graczom, lecz osobom, które zachwycają się jedynie efekciarskimi scenami, uruchamiać gry nie zalecam, bo nie znajdą wiele dla siebie. Produkcja Techlandu spodoba się jednak osobom, które lubią taktyczne FPSy wsparte miłą fabułą i dużymi połaciami terenu do zwiedzania.

Co w grze mi się podoba to:
- fabuła i klimat
- pojazdy
- implanty
- walka i odpowiedni poziom trudności
- różnorodność lokacji

W grze nie podoba mi się:
- animacja
- niewykorzystany potencjał bossów
- model jazdy

Osobiście grę oceniam na 7,8/10 i z niecierpliwością oczekuję drugiej części.

Bolt’s shoes for auction in Washington

Usain Bolt

WASHINGTON: A replica of the record-breaking shoes worn by World and Olympic Champion, Hon. Usain Bolt, OJ, is to be auctioned by the Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) to fund its new LifeSEED’s Youth Vision project in Bolt’s district of Sherwood Content in Trelawny.

The shoes, now on display at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC, will be auctioned within another two weeks.

Speaking to JIS News, President of ICS, Dr. Claire Nelson, informed that the shoes were designed and donated by Puma and autographed by Bolt.

Dr. Nelson explained that the LifeSEED (Life Skills Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Development) programme seeks to provide young people of the Caribbean with the crucial skills and resources needed to be self-directed, gainfully employed, and equipped to secure their livelihoods and reach their goals.

“We firmly believe that the youth have the strong ability to be productive, thriving, and contributing members of society, if we emphasise the importance of hard work and determination and provide them with vital resources,” said Dr. Nelson.

The ICS President pointed out that nearly one-third of the 16 million people, who live in the CARICOM region, are between 15 and 24 years old and they face many challenges including high and increasing rates of unemployment.

She further pointed to the high levels of crime and violence among young men between the ages of 15 and 29, who commit 69 murders per 100,000 persons. Turning to education Dr. Nelson said, “only one-third of high school graduates pursue further study and nearly 70 per cent of all unmarried males have no skills training”.

Dr. Nelson added that the LifeSEED approach is based on three key elements needed for total viability. These are: partnering with educational organisations on the ground to train youth in entrepreneurship; funding skills training programmes; donating funds to provide youth with the tools and knowledge they need to embark on individual enterprises and career paths; and providing seed capital for enterprise development.

It was only last week that the ICS conferred its prestigious Vanguard Award to Bolt at its 16th Annual Caribbean American Heritage Awards Gala at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel.

Czasami hackerstwo powinno być nagradzane. Taka nagroda należy się hackerom, którzy włamali się do serwera Uniwersytetu Wschodniej Anglii. Setki rozmów, maili i dokumentów naukowców zajmujących się globalnym ociepleniem pokazują jak wielką ściemą jest ten lewacki mit. Zawartość plików jest przerażająca. Naukowcy celowo manipulowali danymi, które nie pasowały do tezy o globalnym ociepleniu. Ogólny spadek temperatury w przeciągu kolejnych lat, o czym pisali dziennikarze BBC Science (link), był ukrywany przed opinią publiczną.

Naukowcy nie zaprzeczają treściom, które pojawiły się w internecie, ograniczając się jedynie do wysuwania oskarżeń o kradzież prywatnych plików. Andrew Bolt, dziennikarz z Herald Sun, określił to wydarzenie największym skandalem współczesnej nauki. Dokładne cytaty rozmów oraz zarzuty wobec naukowców można przeczytać w tym artykule.

Pozwolę sobie przytoczyć tylko jedną wypowiedź szalonego naukowca od global warming: “w obecnej chwili nie możemy wytłumaczyć globalnego ocieplenia – i to jest farsa, że nie możemy” – Kevin Trenberth z Centrum Badań Atmosferycznych.

Jeszcze kilka głupich, lewackich wymysłów jest do obalenia. Cierpliwości…

We went and saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs we saw in the theater but chose not do to 3D because my kids hate having the glasses on and in 3D if you take your glasses off the screen is blurry… plus 3D costs more. I was the only person in my family excited to see the movie. I read the book growing up and was thinking it would be cool. I felt it was sort of a let down. Do not get me wrong the movie wasn’t horrible but I do not know that I will buy it.. Only time will tell though. I would give the movie 3 stars. My kids and husband felt pretty much the same way although my kids really loved all the yummy food and scientific stuff. The story was a bit weak though I think the essence of the book still shone through.

I saw both The Kung Fu Panda and WALL·E in the theater. At the time I probably would have said 4 1/2 stars for The Kung Fu Panda and 4 stars for WALL·E. Since I now own them both on Blu-ray and watch them quite often I would now have to say I rate them both 5 stars.

The Kung Fu Panda, is not only likable it is down right adorable. From the witty humor to the fantastic animation it is a solid movie. The story also is a good one with a good moral though I do not know if children grasp that level of it. I know my kids just think a big fat panda bear saying HI-YAH is hilarious.

WALL·E, on the other hand on first viewing was a bit depressing to me even though my kids thought it the most fantastic movie ever I was a bit annoyed. I think because I usually watch animation movies to escape the real world and this movie just made me think more about real things. It is a very deep movie. It delves into our world and how we are as people. Of course most kids won’t get this either. My two love it because there are robots and spaceships. Since it is Pixar you know the movie is Gold anyway.. or at least I do. Now that I have watched it a gazillion times I think my mind has kind of learned not to think on the things and just watch it for the silly parts, making it a more enjoyable experience.

Up, which is also a Pixar movie, is a great film. We saw it in the theater and at that time I would have given it 4 stars but now that we own it on Blu-ray I have to say 5 stars. It has a deep story ( more so for the opening of the film.) But it is a light-hearted, sweet, family friendly movie. I will say that my oldest child got the depth of the beginning in a way.. She wanted to know why the lady couldn’t have a baby.. My son not so much but he is very frightened by the “mean” dogs. Overall, I give it 5 stars and I think right now it is the family’s # 1 pick.

Bolt, my daughter and I saw in the theater. She loved it I thought it was so-so. At the time I would have given it 2 1/2 to 3 stars. Since then we have bought it on, can you guess? Yep, Blu-ray. After re-watching it, I think I would give it 3 1/2 to 4 stars. I think the casting of the voice of the lead girl (Miley Cyrus) was a bad choice. Her voice is kinda raspy and deep and for some reason it really annoys me. However, I LOVE the hamster’s voice – I think it goes perfect. The storyline was not too bad but at times a bit cheesy to me. Overall still good enough to watch. FYI – My son is very afraid of the green-eyed man.

Sebagai seorang pengguna internet dengan ponsel, tentunya kamu pernah mengalami kesulitan ketika ingin berganti-ganti aplikasi. Apalagi jika ponsel yang kamu gunakan adalah ponsel java yang tidak bisa membuka banyak aplikasi (multy tasking). Contohnya saja ketika kamu on line dengan mig33 lalu harus meng-add kenalan kamu via facebook, tentunya agak ribet bukan?

Kesulitan tersebut bisa diatasi dengan menggunakan satu aplikasi yang terdiri dari beberapa macam aplikasi pilihan sesuai dengan yang kamu inginkan. Aplikasi dengan beragam aplikasi tersebut biasa dikenal dengan Mapps (multy aplikasi). Mapps sendiri bisa menampung tiga atau empat macam aplikasi, contohnya saja Mapps-BOM. Mapps-BOM ini berisi aplikasi bolt, opmin, dan mig33.

Dengan menggunakan Mapps bom kita bisa dengan mudah berpindah dari aplikasi mig33 ke opera mini ataupun bolt, tanpa harus menutup aplikasi. Aplikasi ini tentunya akan sangat membantu kita.

Mapps ini sendiri sebenarnya tidak hanya gabungan dari mig33, bolt, dan opmin saja. Namun juga terdapat varian mapps yang terdiri dari beberapa aplikasi yang berbeda. Nah untuk lebih jelasnya berikut ini adalah beberapa varian aplikasi Mapps dan link downloadnya.

Nigel nailed a new route - oops and its loose!

Dead Dolphin Direct was climbed on 9th October 2009 by Nigel (seconded by james!). The route takes a direct line to the route climbed by Pete and James about 4 years ago. The original line climbed the overhanging corner up the slab and belayed from a ut key and mud bollard! The new line takes the impressive overhang following the obvious line of holds onto the slab above. The Slab was as impressively loose as the first ascent and Nigel did well to find a handful of throwaway placement to keep the rope running in a nice line!

Graded at HVS 5a the grading was given for the start which was a great boulder problem…. the HVS for the loose rock above. Nigel has his first tick and although not a 3 star classic a new route has been claimed.

I haven’t had an actual post in a while!

Well, I guess I should say what’s been happening…

So…my last real post was my Creative Writing story? Yes, well, I got an amazing 98% on that story, but that teacher is still being a right bitch. She hates me, haha. Oh well, at least I have four other teachers who like me!

Uhm…so I got my senior pictures in and everything, and they look amazing.

I saw the Vampire’s Assistant last Saturday. And I must say, it was AWESOME. I’m totally buying it the day it comes out on DVD. The vampire guy totally almost bitch slaps the little boy and calls him “soft”. Haha.

I have to take Spanish at MCC cause my mom forced me to take German instead of Spanish, and now has changed her mind because I’d need Spanish more then German in a hospital. But then again, this is America, and we speak English, so I pretty much think that if you’re going to live here at least learn the basic “Help! I accidentally shot him in a gang war and now he’s dying come save him!” phrase.

Uhm…I picked out the University I am dead-set on going to and visited it. I must saw it is pretty much awesome. The dorms are cool, they have an amazing (and competitive) nursing program, and their mascot is NOT REAL. How cool is that? Seriously, I’ll be a Griffon next year. And NO, it is not a real animal! Christ. How dumb can we get here, people?

Oh. I saw Bolt and Up! the other day, and they were equally amazing. Yay Disney for coming out with a movie thats actually pretty awesome. I’ve also decided that I’m going on a mission to get the thirty-odd movies on DVD from my past childhood, like Cinderella and Pocahontas so that when I have kids, they’ll know the true awesomeness of the Early Amazing Disney times. I’m also on a quest to find the two-disc Special Edition 1957 version of Alice in Wonderland. I found it on Ebay for $10, but sadly, I didn’t have $10.

OH! GUESS WHAT GOES ON SALE MONDAY???? Bon Jovi tickets for their March 9th show!!! If you love me, you’ll get me some tickets! Haha. Just kidding. But seriously, that’d be amazing.

So anyways, I’m going to go do the dishes before I have to go to work, so bye!

Bolt is an animated film recently released which is about a small white dog that was adopted by a young girl call Penny. Bolt has been brought up to believe that he is living the life of a super dog and must always protect his person (Penny) from the evil green eyed man, who has captured penny’s father to retrieve information. Bolt escapes from the recording film studio and realises he is an ordinary dog yet is on a mission to get back to Penny. Bolt takes a cat hostage as he is led to believe by some pigeons that she knows where Penny is, at this point the story gets very comical as Mittens the cat plays along with Bolts belief of being a super dog. Eventually Mittens trains him to be an ordinary dog which is in many ways backwards but the highlight of the film.

I found the film Extremely exciting with no dull moments. When the action was lacking you were provided with excess comedy of a basic level, so you were always able to keep up with the jokes which was fantastic for the target audience. The characters had their own spontaneous way about them which made each section of the film unpredictable and highly amusing. My favourite character was Rhino the hamster as I found his energy was relayed onto you as the viewer, and made you want to join in with the action. The film was upbeat despite there being some upsetting moments you always had hope for the usual happy ending.

Exitosa carrera musical

Su carrera musical comienza a partir de las canciones que ella cantó como la famosa estrella pop de la serie. En junio del 2006 dio un concierto como Hannah Montana y en octubre Walt Disney Records lanzó su primer disco con las canciones de Hannah Montana. A este CD le siguieron otros a nombre de Hannah Montana, pero también bajo su nombre real. Actualmente acaba de salir su último hit llamado Party in the USA.

En marzo de 2008, Miley inició un proceso legal para cambiar su nombre de Destiny Hope Cyrus a Miley Ray Cyrus. El pedido fue aceptado y su nuevo nombre legalizado.

Bolt y Penny

Recientemente Miley Cyrus trabajó junto con John Travolta en la realización de las dos voces principales de la película infantil Bolt. Miley interpretó la voz de Penny, mientras que John Travolta dio su voz al protagonista Bolt.

Nueva y renovada

Hace poco salió en televisión la tercera temporada de Hannah Montana con nuevas canciones, además de un nuevo y renovado estilo para Hannah. En abril del 2009 se estreno también la película que llevó a la pantalla grande a esta estrella: Hannah Montana The Movie.

Actualmente se encuentra grabando el film The Last Song en Savannah, Georgia en donde interpretará a Verónica Miller, una adolescente rebelde que es enviada por su madre a pasar las vacaciones de verano con su padre con el cual no se lleva bien.

Pat & Merv have been furiously planting new flowers on our forest side so the garden will look all colourful and pretty for our next wedding during December, only to have all the new plants dug up and snacked on by our resident bush pigs. My parents were woken up the other night by their two dogs barking hysterically. My dad looked through the window to see 5 of the biggest bush pigs he has ever seen walking in single file across his lawn. Thank goodness the dogs sleep inside – Vaughn will remember his Rottweiler’s excursion into the forest and subsequent meeting with a bushpig. Poor Auckland came back out of the forest with her neck torn open and had to be rushed to the Vet in Polokwane at the time, and poor Diesel had just disappeared – only to come back a day later severely traumatised.

Nearly every afternoon at dusk you can also hear our resident leapord “barking” in the forest – makes you think you had better have eyes in the back of your head the next time you decide to go for a walk through our forest!

Ashley & Sparkles

Our “worsie” pups where taken to the vet today, they’re now 6 months old and have both gone for the snip, Sparkles to be spayed and poor Bolt to be carstrated (Robin thought I had too much delight in my voice when I kept saying the dogs are going for a “Snip-Snip”). We do have a Great Dane living next door, and I am sorry where there is a will there is a way … and living with the Great Dane is a miniature doberman “lady” which would just be too much for Bolt – so before I get sued for paternity issues, snip-snip. The vet’s assistant phones to inform me that Bolt only has one testicle, the other one is recessed and it would be best if they also remove it as it can make them aggressive and lead to cancer. I told them to go ahead and remove it. Upon informing Robin of the slight problem he quips: “We should have known Bolt would have a problem as all bolt’s have only one nut!”

Sometimes the world we live in isn’t what we think it is. That can be because we tend to believe what we want to believe, and other times it’s because we see what others want us to see. There are only two things that we can really rely on. The first thing is ourselves; the second thing is love.

Penny (Cyrus) is the daughter of a noted scientist who has been kidnapped by the nefarious Dr. Calico (McDowell), the Man with the Green Eye (just one). In order to get the scientist to give up information about the classified project he is working on, the evil Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!) has decided to kidnap Penny to use as leverage. Thankfully, she isn’t alone. Before he was kidnapped, the scientist enhanced the family dog Bolt (Travolta) with super strength, super speed, heat vision and above all, a super bark. Despite all the black-suited minions on motorcycles, the high-tech weapons, the attack helicopters and fiendish traps set by the sinister Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!) the duo of Penny and Bolt foil his evil plans every time, getting closer to finding where Penny’s dad is being held and once and for all foiling the plans of the criminal genius Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!).

At least, that’s what Bolt thinks. The reality is that all of that is a highly rated television show. In order to get a more natural performance out of the canine star, the Director (Lipton) has gone to great lengths to make the dog believe that the jeopardy is real and that his super powers are genuine. Every night at the end of shooting, Penny escorts Bolt to his trailer where he rests, occasionally getting tormented by a pair of cat actors who play the pets of the cat-aleptic Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!). Penny is not thrilled about this; she would rather spend time with her dog, but her smarmy agent (Greg Germann) convinces her that this is best for her career. However, the network is becoming restless; the ratings are slipping and people are getting tired of the same old formula; girl gets in trouble, Bolt saves the day.

The Director comes up with an episode which ends with the maniacal Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!) successfully kidnapping Penny. Instead of Penny accompanying Bolt to his trailer, it’s a trainer in heavy padding looking not unlike one of the tyrannical Dr. Calico’s (BWAHAHAHA!) henchmen. In a moment of opportunistic synchronicity, Bolt escapes only to accidentally knock himself out and fall into a package filled with Styrofoam packing for a cross-country journey to New York.

Once in the Big Apple, he tries to find Penny but nobody seems to know who he is (New Yorkers are apparently too busy watching “Inside the Actors Studio”). A trio of clueless pigeons sends Bolt to Mittens (Essman), a feline con artist who has the pigeons giving her a cut of their food in exchange for not being clawed to pieces. Bolt, thinking that Mittens is an operative of the fiendish Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!) drags Mittens along for the ride back to California after a desperate Mittens, seeing “Hollywood, California” on Bolt’s dog tag (it’s a good thing cats can read) steers the heroic canine in that direction.

The two embark on a journey across country joined by an astonishingly obese hamster named Rhino (Walton) who does know who Bolt is but like Bolt believes that the television show is real. Bolt’s powers are mysteriously not working; Bolt blames it on the Styrofoam which he has reasoned has some sort of dampening power, obviously a product of the dangerous Dr. Calico (BWAHAHAHA!). The dashing dog must learn to be a hero as an ordinary dog.

This is the first Disney feature to be filmed in 3D and they use the technology wisely, making the 3D a more naturalistic part of the film rather than as a gimmick. Occasionally things come at you in flinch-inducing 3D glory but for the most part it simply adds some depth to the screen.

The voice actors are mostly unknown; only Cyrus and Travolta have any notoriety. Strangely, Travolta is a bit flat as Bolt. Bolt is determined to find Penny, but Travolta reads his lines almost in a monotone. Much better are Essman, who gives the abandoned and wounded Mittens street smarts and a curious dignity. Some of the most emotionally effective scenes are hers; even the climax doesn’t resonate as well as Essman’s work.

Now that Disney and Pixar have joined forces we might see the features from both animation studios start to look a bit alike, and there is definitely a Pixar stamp on this. It isn’t up to the quality of Pixar’s best work, not by a long shot. Still, it’s pleasant enough entertainment, sure to keep the kids happy and satisfied and while the adults might find themselves shifting in their chairs once in awhile, there’s enough here to make it worth their while as well.

WHY RENT THIS: The story never drags and carries a clear emotional center. Susie Essman is super as Mittens. The relationship between Penny and Bolt is heartwarming, charming and authentic. The Bond-like TV show sequences almost make you wish that such a show actually existed.

WHY RENT SOMETHING ELSE: Assuming your kids will let you pass on this, it doesn’t really stand out in a crowded field of animated features. Its pleasant entertainment, mainly aimed at kids but with little appeal to more sophisticated tastes.

FAMILY VALUES: Absolutely perfect for all audiences.

TRIVIAL PURSUIT: The number on Bolt’s dog tag is actually the street address of Disney’s Burbank animation studios.

NOTABLE DVD EXTRAS: A 4-minute animated short starring the lovable hamster that must save the kidnapped Bolt and Penny in “Super Rhino.”

FINAL RATING: 7/10

Ok, I’m getting married next year. I’ve been engaged for a year. There were many reasons that made us push our date back (and I’m glad for it.) And yet, it seems everyone is getting married; people who were engaged after us; people who are younger than myself. And everytime I look at their pictures, I find myself insanely jealous. Especially when the bride has my dream dress (I’ve been struggling with my purchase lately) the exact bridesmaid dresses I would have wanted, etc. It is… frustrating to say the least.

I hate being this way, but I can’t help it. It’s like, all the choices that I’ve made in my planning, I’ve been seeing at other people’s weddings, and I can’t help feeling like people are going to think, “Oh, I see what she did there. So-and-so did that at their wedding.”

Which is crap. I know people don’t do this (well, not everyone) but it really all boils down to one, singular truth:

Facebook is evil. If it weren’t for Facebook, I wouldn’t have noticed people I haven’t talked to in over 6 years getting married and seeing their pictures and get myself all worked up.

…I think I’ve talked about this before…

In other news, Bolt broke my heart within the first 5 minutes. It renewed my desire for a dog, so badly and of course, I cried in the last ten minutes. Gosh, I’m such a softie.

Larry Potterfield, owner and founder of MidwayUSA, has created some basic gunsmithing videos that are worth watching. These show some key aspects of rifle metal-working, such as crowning a barrel. Be aware that these videos are really just teasers — they don’t illustrate most of the critical preparatory steps a skilled gunsmith will do, such as leveling his lathe precisely, and indicating the barrel very, very carefully. Nonetheless, there are some good, basic tips in the videos, which should be informative for all shooters, whether they do their own smithing or not. Please note that benchrest smiths may employ more advanced methods.
