TEHERAN – Pasukan Garda Revolusi Iran menyatakan pihaknya akan menyerang fasilitas nuklir Israel, jika pemerintahan Tel Aviv menyerang Iran.

“Jika rezim Zionis (Israel) menyerang Iran. Kami pasti akan menyerang balik fasilitas nuklir negara itu dengan rudal,” kata Mohammad Ali Jafari, Komandan Kepala Pasukan Garda Revolusi kepada dalam wawancara dengan stasiun televisi Iran, Al Alam dan dikutip Reuters, Sabtu (25/7/2009).

Pasukan Garda Revolusi merupakan sayap kekuatan militer Iran, di darat, udara, maupun udara.

Selama ini pernyataan menyerang Israel, jarang dilontarkan pejabat Iran. Pernyataan Jafari itu mengindikasikan keseriusan Iran menghadapi ambisi Israel. Berbeda dengan beberapa pejabat Israel yang jelas menyatakan keinginan menyerang negara pengekspor minyak terbesar kelima di dunia itu.

Amerika Serikat dan Israel mencurigai Iran mengembangkan persenjataan nuklir. Tuduhan yang dibantah Iran. Israel, yang merupakan satu-satunya negara di Timur Tenga, menyatakan jika Iran memiliki persenjataan nuklir, hal itu akan mengancam eksistensi Israel.

Selama ini Iran jarang mengungkapkan kemampuan militernya. Sehingga agak sulit untuk membandingkan dengan kekuatan Israel.(ton)

TEHERAN – Kelompok garis keras Iran memperingatkan Presiden Mahmoud Ahmadinejad agar mematuhi pemimpin tertinggi Ayatollah Ali Khamenei di tengah krisis politik yang terjadi saat ini.

Tekanan politik kembali mengarah ke Ahmadinejad. Setelah terus digoyang tokoh oposisi, kini giliran kelompok garis keras mengkritik keras Ahmadinejad yang dinilainya sudah mulai kehilangan loyalitas kepada Khamenei.

“Semua orang seharusnya tidak boleh ragu-ragu dalam melaksanakan perintah pemimpin tertinggi Iran,” tutur salah seorang ulama garis keras yang terkenal sangat vokal, Ahmad Khatami.

Kritikan keras Khatami ini datang setelah Ahmadinejad mengeluarkan beberapa putusan kontroversial yang tidak “direstui” Khamenei. Penunjukan Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie sebagai wakil presiden pertama merupakan salah satu keputusan yang ditentang Khamenei. Belum lagi pemecatan Menteri Intelijen Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeie yang mengundang reaksi keras. Ejeie dipecat setelah bersitegang dengan Mashaie.

Selain dari Khatami, kritik juga datang dari media kelompok garis keras. Mereka meminta Ahmadinejad kembali mengevaluasi tindakan dan sikapnya.

“Ahmadinejad harus meminta maaf kepada rakyat Iran,” tulis halaman depan Yalesarat, koran yang dimiliki garis keras.

Peringatan tidak kalah keras datang dari kalangan konservatif yang menamakan diri Masyarakat Islam Ahli Teknik. Mereka menulis surat terbuka kepada Ahmadinejad yang tak lain profesor di bidang teknik transportasi.

Kendati Ahmadinejad meraih kemenangan telak (63%) dalam pilpres kemarin, dukungan terhadapnya bisa menurun drastis bila dia terus-menerus “membangkang” Khamenei.

Meskipun tidak memegang kekuasaan dan kendali pemerintahan, pengaruh Khamenei sangat besar di Iran. Semua kebijakan penting di negeri itu seperti pengayaan energi nuklir ataupun kebijakan luar negeri dibuat atas persetujuan Khamenei. Dia juga tokoh yang sangat disegani dan dihormati warga Iran.

“Dukungan rakyat Iran terhadap Anda (Ahmadinejad) sangat tergantung pada kepatuhan Anda kepada pemimpin tertinggi Iran. Semua tindakan Anda akan memiliki konsekuensi,” tulis Masyarakat Islam Ahli Teknik yang dipublikasikan Selasa (28/7).

Mereka juga mengkritik keras penunjukan Mashaie. Tahun lalu Mashaie pernah menyulut kontroversi dengan mengatakan Iran adalah teman Israel. Dia kemudian mundur dari jabatannya setelah Khamenei meminta Ahmadinejad untuk memecat Mashaie. Sementara itu, Pemerintah Iran membebaskan 140 tahanan politik yang ditangkap saat berdemo menentang hasil pemilu presiden bulan lalu.

Pembebasan ini datang setelah Khameini memerintahkan penutupan penjara Evin yang menjadi salah satu penjara bagi demonstran penentang hasil pilpres. Khamenei menilai penjara tersebut sudah lalai dalam melindungi hak-hak tahanan. Penutupan penjara serta pembebasan tahanan ini memberi bukti besarnya tekanan yang dihadapi Pemerintah Iran terkait tahanan penentang hasil pemilihan presiden.

Salah satu anggota Komite Politik Luar Negeri dan Keamanan Nasional Iran, Kazem Jalali, menyatakan tahanan yang dibebaskan kemarin hanyalah mereka yang melakukan pelanggaran ringan. Tahanan yang dianggap melakukan pelanggaran berat, seperti pemimpin demo, belum akan dibebaskan.

“Tidak ada tokoh politik ternama yang masuk dalam daftar orang yang dibebaskan,” tuturnya.

Sebelumnya beredar kabar bahwa salah satu tokoh reformis, Saeed Hajjarian, akan dibebaskan kemarin atau Rabu (29/7). Namun, pengacara Hajjarian mengaku belum tahu mengenai kabar kliennya itu.

Hajjarian dikenal luas sebagai salah satu sekutu kuat kandidat presiden Mir Hossein Mousavi yang kalah dari Ahmadinejad. Hingga kini belum ada konfirmasi dari Pemerintah Iran terkait nasib tahanan yang berada di pusat tahanan Kahrizak.(Koran SI/Koran SI/jri)

I have a feeling this story will raun and run too.

The Calgary Herald is reporting that the Calgary based neo-nazi outfit the “Aryan Guard” has disbanded, at least according to its website.

The AG first got in the news  in 2006 and distributed a bunch of propaganda in Calgary and Lethbridge. Alas, all has not been coming up roses for the arch defenders of black-hearted whiteness. It seems they didn’t get along with each other, and someone tried to blow one of them up on Saturday. One 17 year old is already under arrest (found in Manitoba) and charged with attempted murder and the founder of the super-flounder,  Kyle Robert McKee, 24, is on the run from similar charges.

Three bombs exploded in India’s restive northeast Sunday, killing five people and wounding more than 25, police said.

Five people died after two blasts went off within minutes of each other outside a police station in Nalbari town near the Assam state capital, Gauhati, a local police official said.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to the media, said about five minutes later a third blast occurred a few miles (kilometers) away. More than 25 people have been wounded in the three blasts.

India’s northeast is beset by scores of conflicts. More than 10,000 people have died in separatist violence over the past decade. The region is home to dozens of separatist groups who accuse the government of exploiting the area’s natural resources while doing little for the indigenous people.

Assam’s Inspector General of police Bhaskar Mahanta said authorities suspect the militant separatist group United Liberation Front of Asom is behind the blasts. No group claimed responsibility.

Mahanta said the bombers had parked two bicycles fitted with carriers packed with explosives outside the Nalbari police station, which is located in a congested part of the town. These went off, killing passers-by and wounding the others.

Mahanta said police had received intelligence reports suggesting that the ULFA was planning to avenge last week’s arrest of two of the group’s leaders.

Last week, suspected ULFA rebels triggered a powerful explosion, derailing a freight train and setting more than a dozen oil tanker railcars on fire in Assam.

The ULFA has spurned the Indian government’s offer to hold talks with them on condition that the group give up violence.

A German’s View on Islam

A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. ‘Very few people were true Nazis,’ he said, ‘but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care. I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories…’

We are told again and again by ‘experts’ and ‘talking heads’ that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.

The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the ’silent majority,’ is cowed and extraneous.

Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.

The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.

And who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were ‘peace loving’?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points:

Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.

Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late. As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts — the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just deletes this email without sending it on, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So, extend yourself a bit and send this on and on and on! Let us hope that thousands, world-wide, read this and think about it, and send it on – before it’s too late.

Argentinian novelist César Aira says,

I don’t believe that literature is so important for society. On the contrary, I think that literature has always only been important for a minority, for a handful of people. And I think, when it comes to literature, that people should be free to read what they please. Lots of my fellow writers like to proclaim loudly that literature has to have an obligatory character, that young people should be made to read it. I don’t like that. Everything in our society is starting to feel obligatory – we should let people decide for themselves whether they want to engage with literature or not. People should read if they want to. It will give them many joyous moments in their lives, but people who don’t read can also be very happy. It has become very fashionable to encourage people to read, there are even foundations for it. I suspect that the people who are paid good money to work there, never read. We, the real readers, are moving away from propagating reading. Perhaps because we have learned that it is the freest activity that one can possibly engage in.

A bomb ripped through a Pakistan police vehicle, killing two policemen and wounding five people on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar early Friday, officials said.

“It was a remote-controlled bomb packed with steel pellets, which was planted on the roadside,” senior police official Mohammad Karim Khan said.

Doctor Attaullah Arif at the city’s main Lady Reading Hospital said two policemen were killed and five people wounded, including three police.

The left side of the patrol vehicle, which can seat around six policemen in the back of the cabin, was badly damaged with four or five berets discarded next to splashes of blood, said an AFP correspondent.

The attack came around 14 hours after a suicide bomber struck a court in Peshawar killing 19 people, the sixth attack on the northwestern city in 11 days as Pakistan presses a major offensive against the Taliban.

The sprawling city of 2.5 million people lies on the edge of Pakistan’s lawless tribal belt, where US officials say Al-Qaeda militants are plotting against the West.

Tabitha Jump looked at the device in her hand, and a mass of lovingly rendered wires gazed back. The red symbolized fury, her rage at her ex-lover Zachariah’s betrayal, and how it propelled him to his exalted position in the High Command. Cyan was the color of Demoracorp, the pharmaceutical conglomerate whose injections had corrupted Zachariah’s mind, and which had transformed Tabitha into the woman she was today. Violet meant patience; Tabitha had planned her vengeance for ten years, and if it failed she would plan it for a thousand more. Gray was the cold, functional death that awaited Zachariah, while the yellow it wrapped around was Tabitha’s rebirth. And the green, the wire that would connect them all together? That was Zachariah’s payback.

But she had one more sacrifice to make. The chamber was fused by crackling antimatter and would require payment of its own. Whatever entered would return, but it would no longer be of this world.

Tabitha connected the final wire. Doubt or hesitation would only kill her now. The bomb’s slowly spinning dials showed two minutes and fifty-one seconds. Fifty. Forty-nine.

Tabitha grasped the device in her left hand, and thrust it into the antimatter chamber. Blindly, she found the matter envelope in its core. Touching it incinerated her skin, but she felt the bomb drawn from her fingers into it. It slipped from her grasp into the cocoon from which it would wreak her vengeance.

Two minutes and thirty-seven seconds.

“I always knew you couldn’t resist me,” came a nasally voice from behind. Tabitha spun around, the smoke from her now-withered hand rising in dangerous swirls around her.

“Pity you’re so… weak,” Zachariah taunted. He held his specially designed Omni-gun, an array of ten laser pistols that could blast holes in a five-by-five-foot area with a single trigger pull. He had justified the spending of High Council funds on its developing by arguing that it would be commercially successful among big game hunters. To be truthful, he had smote his fair share of elephants with it in its testing phase, but this moment was its true purpose.

Zachariah fired.

Ten laser beams hummed out of ten pistols—and then stopped. The Flail of Time, which had recently introduced itself to Tabitha as Beroungiat, had found her way into Tabitha’s right hand. She spun ten times and whacked ten laser beams, and had folded herself and leapt back into a loop on Tabitha’s belt before Time began flowing normally again.

Eight of the laser beams shot harmlessly away, as if they were golf balls struck by the galaxy’s worst duffer. Number nine ricocheted directly back to the Omni-gun, traveling straight down one of the central barrels to score a direct hit on the laser generation unit, which shattered and rained down shards of glass and crystal.

The tenth laser beam neatly severed and cauterized Zachariah’s left foot.

“You didn’t kill me,” observed Zachariah.

“We weren’t trying to. Yet.”

Zachariah threw his useless weapon aside. Most of him leapt forward; the boot remained in place, upright and still as a statue.

He made a pair of fists that seemed to grow the size of cantaloupes by the time he landed. “This will bring back memories,” he declared, as he reached back to swing.

“Not tonight, lover,” Tabitha retorted. She sprung into the air, using her good hand to vault over Zachariah’s shoulders. As she did this, Beroungiat decided she hadn’t had quite enough; she unsheathed herself and gave Zachariah a solid thump on the back of his head as Tabitha flew over him.

He fell unconscious, just for a few seconds, but far more than enough. In that time he crumpled to the ground, and when he came to, he found getting back to his feet nearly impossible with just one foot and no other support to get to.

Tabitha didn’t wait around to watch. Dimension Jet 9 was two rooms away; if Zachariah’s guards were doing their duty, that could be trouble.

They were, but poorly. One shouted “Halt!” as she reached the doorway. He shot a ray of some kind of death at her, but she flipped into the room in time to watch it harmlessly pass.

A second ray came when Tabitha had jumped into her craft, but Dimension Jet 9’s shields were more than able to handle that.

The walls began to quake.

Zachariah’s guard discovered the meaning of fear.

Zachariah realized what Tabitha’s blackened hand meant, and that she had beaten him at last.

Dimension Jet 9 faded, became visible again, and disappeared for good an instant before the antimatter chamber exploded. The antimatter it released found a healthy quantity of the matter it so desperately wanted, mating first with Zachariah and then a good portion of the High Command palace, and drawing it into a state of nonexistence.

Dimension Jet 9 materialized. It had found itself a nice-looking place, bucolic in the way of a farm on the outskirts of an idealized medieval village. Dimension number 197. It would be a nice place for a vacation, and if someone needed helping, well, Tabitha was proud of her fate.

And in total darkness, a single vengeful word is uttered: “Jump.” For somewhere, even nonexistence… is.”

In Exile Issues, there are three major characters: Nathan, the titular exile; Marty, the bored slacker who works at his father’s business, and Carla, the IT guru at said business.

Carla is obsessive in her fandom of a (very slightly steampunk) graphic novel, to the point of living vicariously through it, taking life lessons from it, and the like. And this, obviously without the art, is that comic book. (In the first draft, it was called “Golden Girl,” which I think was a pretty stupid joke.) A significant passage from an issue will probably show up in the book—that’s why it’s all ital, to show it’s not what’s actually happening. I’m not thrilled with “Tabitha Jump” as a title either, but it will do for now.

Carla is in one respect the driver of the plot. If not always looking for excitement, she will at least embrace it when it comes along, and persuade Marty to do so as well. Anything that makes her life more like Tabitha’s is OK by her.

She’s also morbidly obese. So in addition to not having any superpowers, her physical abilities are in many fields somewhat less than what an average person’s are.

It’s not intended to be a fat joke, and I don’t believe it ever comes off as one. (If I see any, I will excise them in editing). I think she’s at least a reasonably admirable character, in the way that she will take action without regard to whether her abilities may or may not be up to the action.

Police in Atlanta, Georgia are investigating the Grand Hustle offices owned by rapper T.I., after two Molotov Cocktails were found in front of the building that houses the label.

A SWAT team was called to the scene to remove the two explosives devices , while ATF agents are interviewing witnesses in an attempt to identify a suspect.

Investigators are currently testing the Molotov Cocktails to determine what liquids were in the two bottles.

“One of the occupants came out early this morning to start his car up and noticed two suspicious bottles sitting on the front portion of the walkway,” Officer Otis Redmond told MyFox Atlanta 5.

T.I., born Clifford Harris Jr., is currently finishing a year-long prison sentence in an Arkansas federal prison for attempting to purchase machine guns and silencers in October of 2008.
