Theme Thursday is back. In the hectic week of holiday stress, relax with creative play. A new photography craze is to take a picture of a person while holding up a photo of a different person on currency. Sound confusing? Take a look at the Intense Zone for banknotes/ people and it will become obvious. And funny!

Ready for some eye candy? Check out Notebook Stories’ blog on Lynda Barry’s 2008 book, What It Is.  You’ll want to run out and buy it. My favorite sentence, “Can we remember something we can’t imagine?”

There is an association for journal writers. Of course there is. If you are interested in a community of journalers, prompts, journaling software, information and activity, the International Association of Journal Writers is your group. It costs $49 a year to join.

Bomomo let’s you doodle on your computer screen. I’m sure there is an explanation for how to do something specific, but I was having too much fun clicking choices and seeing what happens. It’s a great, colorful stress reducer. Prefer a little more direction? Have fun with Mr. Picassohead–choose hair, eyebrows, face shape,colors and more in a face you assemble. You can erase a step if it doesn’t match your mood.

This piece required me to keep a sharp eye out for form, light and

texture. Like most of my digital artworks, this began life as a mix

of fake and real – a bomomo piece blended in Photoshop with a

scan I took of spanish moss; the resulting piece, after a run through

a variety of programs, including Picnik, reminding me of something

tossed and submerged and under water.

This piece started life in the bomomo program, which works

in the Internet Explorer browser, but not the default browser 

I currently use. Still, it’s worth the hassle of opening a different

browser for your bomomo sessions if you can come up with

interesting creations.

Here is an application to get your creative juices flowing. Bomomo is a fun application which allows you to create great abstract images to use as wallpapers etc. Just select a brush and hold down the mouse button whilst moving your swirling cursor around. Even if you not very artistic you can create some great designs. It’s very soothing too!

There are times during the day when you need a little break from whatever it is that you do on your computer for hours on end. It’d be nice if the break included something creative or stimulating which leads me to these two sites that I stumbled upon last night. Bomomo.com provides you a blank slate, a bunch of tools and unpredictable colors plus the ability to save your work when you finish. FUN! While gamesforthebrain.com has a bunch of – you guessed it – games for the brain! I like Dragger – it’s a puzzle game and Masterpieces – you memorize the order of classic paintings then rebuild them. In joy!

CNET news reported on Thursday that there is a fake CNN website you can be led to as a result of an email you may receive alerting you to a news story. When you follow the link, you will end up on a site that looks very much like CNN with a story for you to watch online. When you click on the link, you will receive a popup asking you to download the latest version of Adobe flash. If you do, you will instead receive software that will pass on any sensitive material and history in your computer, including financial records and passwords. Remember, if you are not a subscriber to CNN news releases, don’t open that email and click the link.

Why do you want to ensure that the cellphone you give your kids has GPS tracking installed? Just ask the parents of Natalie Maltais. The Massachusetts 9-year-old was kidnapped by her grandmother. But officers used the tracking device coupled with Google’s Street View to pinpoint the hotel where she was being held. Free downloads still get my attention and while many are not worth the time to investigate, there are a few not only worth trying but, must have. Here are two you should check out: (NOTE: these two downloads are considered virus-free, but always ensure your computer’s antivirus program is up to date.)

SUPER is just that … super. This free download allows you to change the format of a file to another format. Take for instance you find a video you want to convert to an mp3 so you can listen on your player. Download the video, drag and drop it into the converter, click the Encode button and watch it’s progress on a green bar. It’s fast and can convert video files, audio files and text files to a multitude of different formats.

Paint.net is a free program that allows for photo touch-ups, special effects, and like SUPER, offers free upgrades as they become available. The program is very intuitive and is so easy to use, it’s worth the download just to try it. http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

Online, Bomomo is a gyroscope-type game with a lot more tools to paint with than just the gyroscope brush. It is very simple to use … click on a brush type and then move the swirling bubbly cursor overthe screen to make a picture. Once you’re done you can wipe the canvas clear to start again, or save your work straight to the hard drive to use as a back drop or whatever you have in mind. Working as a computer instructor for an adult-education program at a community college, I am keenly aware of the gap in computer knowledge between my younger and older students.
My observations were confirmed the day a new student walked into our library area and glanced at the encyclopedia volumes stacked on a bookshelf.
“What are all these books?” he asked.
Somewhat surprised, I replied that they were encyclopedias.
“Really?” he said. “Someone printed out the whole thing?”

There was once a snail who was sick and tired of his reputation for being so slow. He decided to get some fast wheels to make up the difference. After shopping around a while, he decided that the Datson 240-Z was the car to get. So the snail goes to the nearest Datsun dealer and says he wants to buy the 240-Z, but he wants it repainted “240-S”.
The dealer asks, “Why ‘S’?”
The snail replies, “‘S’ stands for snail. I want everybody who sees me roaring past to know who’s driving.”
Well, the dealer doesn’t want to lose the unique opportunity to sell a car to a snail, so he agrees to have the car repainted for a small fee.
The snail gets his new car and spent the rest of his days roaring happily down the highway at top speed. And whenever anyone would see him zooming by, they’d say “Wow! Look at that S-car go!”

Só de olhar as nossas carinhas “lindas” nas fotos ácima, já dá pra perceber que o site é divertido, né?

Eu, particularmente, não sou chegado em Animê nem Mangá (Ou manga, sei lá!), mas acho legal o estilo do desenho.  O Avatar Face Maker é bem simplesinho de usar (Como qualquer Face Creator!), e com uma grande variedade para cabelos, olhos, etc. Cria lá o seu avatar, e manda pra pro I.L.I rir de você ver seu desenho!

2º Lugar: TOONCRISIS

Já jogaram Time Crisis? Não? Bom, é um joguinho em primeira pessoa no estilo do famoso Counter Strike, porém, sua arma não aparece na tela. Enfim, o dono do Toon Crisis deve ter achado o jogo violento demais, e criou uma versão onde os inimigos são desenhos animados. Isso mesmo! A cidade inteira é real, você é real, mas os inimigos são desenhos! Acabe com a raça desses motherfuckers comédias, e bom divertimento!

1ºLugar: BOMOMO

Não, não estou viciando em ferramentas de desenho pela internet! Sei que já é o terceiro post que faço falando disso, mas é que não consegui resistir ao bomomo! Os efeitinhos das ferramentas são do caralho animais, e sempre sai vários desenhos bem legais. Eu agarantcho esse aê!

Bom, é isso ai! Ficando por aqui com mais um Top 5. Divirtam-se enquanto eu durmo!

In case anyone would wonder about what’s with the sort of psychedelic art (?) that I’m using up above there, it’s a collage of some of the glorified doodles that I created at the fun, modern art website, bomomo.com -Go there if you want to play around with a fun, sort of a  “Paint”-on-acid application.  You are presented with a palette and 20 different tools to play with.  Each tool acts differently -you have some control but not complete control.  Which can be frustrating in some ways, but once you get the hang of it can be quite interesting.  I found that there were only a few tools that I liked and most of them I disliked.  The result is that most of my creations look fairly similar.

The tools have no name just a symbol so it’s hard to make reference to them.  If we number the tools left to right, 1 through 20 (two rows of ten) and then note the ones you like it’s easier to remember what you like.  I found that tools number 1,2,5,6,14 & 16 were the most useful but by far #16 was my favorite.  Another hint I’ll give you is to use any tool you like (6 works good for this) to first color in the whole background leaving no annoying white spaces to peek through your final, finished work.  Also if at some point you find that you like your result so far, it’s best to save it before you continue and possibly muck things up.  You can’t undo something you don’t like and go back to some previous point so making frequent saves is important.  Also look carefully at those buttons because the “erase” button is right next-door to the “save” button so I am probably not the only person who has his most amazing work of Bomomo art still floating around somewhere in the ether never to be seen again by human eyes.

This is a great way to release your pent-up creative genius as long as you have the patience and tolerance to work within the limitations of the software.  –And don’t mind using an app with one of the most moronic sounding names ever!  Let’s see, to translate from Japanese it would be what?  Stickpeach?
