The internet is full of buzzing new MCs, but few have the presence that Cracka Lack has! We catch up with the rising star to talk about his seemingly endless supply of free download mixtapes, where his name comes from, how he’s secured support slots from the likes of Fabolous and Twista and we also find out where to check him out online, of you haven’t already!

Cracka Lack, where did that name come from? Is it a little dig at the people who still think that white rappers are automatically wack?

You have got a good point, but no it’s just a name that I came up with back when I was 15.

Do you feel that the racial stereotyping and racial hate in hip hop is on the decline, or is there still hostility in certain circles?

Personally, I haven’t felt any hostility.

Do you ever get hate simply because of your colour?

No I don’t. Maybe though, if you say there’s a white rapper named Cracka Lack, you’re first impression isn’t gonna be that I’m good or talented, you’re gonna think I suck.

After they hear the music though, does the situation change?

Completely. My music is unhateonable. Haha.

So why did you first decide to pick the mic up?

When I was 15 I was just hanging out at a friends house and he was recording a song in his small in-house studio. He asked me if I wanted to do a verse so I was like sure.

Where did you grow up, and how have your surroundings influenced your music?

Lansing, MI. I’m influenced by anything and everything so no matter where I’m at I’ll always be influenced by it!

You definitely prefer to rock the dirty south beats, do you ever branch out into the more Boom Bap sounding beats, or a bit of G Funk? Or is it exclusively the crunk beats for you?

Anything hot. With my 8th CD “Somethin’ Like A Star” I had 17 different producers from all over the world featured on it. So that CD I would say shows my versatility as far as what beats I can rap on and still come up with a Hot CD.

You’ve got an impressive discography already, take us through that!

9 CDs today. I’m always working on new music, so that’ll change 2 months from now, but basically when I was 15 I did a group CD. When I was 16 I did another group CD. Then off the money from the group CD I bought my own studio equipment that I still use today, and when I was 17 I dropped my first Solo CD “Highly Anticipated”. Im 20 now and since then I’ve released 9 CDs up to my newest “Non Stop”.

Why do you decide to do so many free downloads? Is it just capitalizing on the digital market?

What every rapper trying to make it needs to do is become very well known and build a fan base before they release a CD charging $10. So you’ve gotta get that buzz. Me, I release CDs for Free Download to get my buzz along with lots of other things. When my buzz is where I want it I’ll put out something for like $5-$10.

You’ve got a great presence on MySpace, over 100,000 friends! How is the internet feeling you, and how have you manipulated it to be such a great marketing tool?

Without the internet I wouldn’t be where I am today. Every show that I’ve got has been through myspace. Every person that has Downloaded one of my CDs has been through myspace. I definately take advantage and use my myspace every day. I am where I am in my music career today because of the internet. The internet is the only way I can reach fans across the world. With no internet I’d only have a buzz around Michigan.

You’ve performed with some great artists, including Young Buck! How do you get your name out there to tour organizers etc? Give some up and coming artists some tips on how to get booked as support slots!

Really you have just gotta find the right promoters. There are different types of promoters too. You got some promoters that just want money and don’t care if you’re hot or not and they’ll say ‘Yeah $800 and you can open for Lil Wayne’. I don’t work with them. Then you’ve got the other promoters that I work with that actually care about good music and they’ll see an artist like my self that is making good music and they’ll say ‘Yeah I want you to open for Lil Wayne’ and they make you sell some tickets or something, but no money.

Have any of the acts you’ve toured with made any comments about your music that have been a real confidence boost?

No not really. So far I’ve opened for Fabolous, Twista, Young Buck, Petey Pablo, Bone Crusher and Dolla. Out of them I’ve only met 3, and that was only for like 30 seconds.

I’m based over here in the UK, have you ever worked with any international artists?

Not any rappers, but producers, yes. On my CD “Somethin’ Like A Star” I had 2 producers from the UK featured.

Do you check out the international scenes at all, or do you stick to the US?

I promote world wide through the internet. I don’t focus on my state, region or country. As far as shows, eventually I’ll be everywhere I’m just not at that point in my career yet. I’m working on making that happen every day.

So is there an album in the works, and products that will be for sale, as opposed to free downloads coming in the near future?

Yeah today I’m promoting my CD “Non Stop” and all the other ones and I’m working on 2 New CDs, “On Fire” which will be out this June and “Unhateonable” will be out around July/August. If my buzz is where I want it to be around this summer “Unhateonable” will be for sale.

On Saturday,March 7th, the “Saving Our Daughters” Book Series  came alive in front of 200 families at the Barnes & Noble Book Store at Camp Creek in Atlanta Georgia, for the first official book signing.

Special supporting celebrities joined featured book contributors, T.I., and Sean Garrett; which included Keshia Knight Pulliam of Madea Goes To Jail, Tyler Perry Producer Roger Bobb – who also brought his super star daughter, All My Children’s ABC Actress, Denise Vasi, Rockmond Dunbar from the hit series “Soul Food” and “The Family That Preys”, Lisa Wu Hartwell – from the Real House Wives of Atlanta, Bone Crusher, Moma Pain-T-Pain’s mother and surprised guest Mrs. Xernona Clayton – Founder of the Trumpet Awards came in support.

The book signing started off with an overwhelming poem from Russell Simon’s Def Jam Poet, Georgia Me, which followed by T.I.; speaking a few encouraging words to the single parent families who had suffered from domestic violence or other horrific acts of violence.

I believe this book will be an helpful for all young women, and even older women who still can’t figure out their self-worth! The fact the this is from a male perspective makes a world of difference when we are facing staggering statistics of father-less homes, sexual abuse, and teen pregnancies. Let’s face it a girl needs her dad, or at least a positive male figure to tell her she is a queen!

The images of women in the media are not a true depiction of a “real” woman, and I’m happy they where able to bring this book to life.

HoobaStank: For(n)ever

Hey do you guys remember Hoobastank? They had that song The Reason back in the early 21st century. You don’t? Neither did I, that’s why I had to look them up. Once it clicked on who they were I started thinking “Damn these guys take forever to put out a CD”. Then I looked at the CD title and said “ What the fuck? Who do these guys think they are? They aren’t clever at all and that title does not make sense” Then I took and listened to a couple of their new tracks and man these guys didn’t get better with age. The band is post-grunge and sometimes it feels like they are more clean cut surf music then anything else. They scream at the top of their lungs on the lead single My Turn but truth be told they already had their turn. Buy this album if you want to believe that Hoobastank is a good band or if you need a something to break up your weed on in your parents basement.

Ciara: Fantasy Ride

Ciara is a boy. That was the rumor right? I don’t know if this was true but I do remember the time when Ciara was being compared to Beyonce and how she was the next big thing in women’s music. Then Rihanna came around and we all forgot about the Princess of Crunk. But Ciara is back and her new stuff is actually pretty good. The album has a bunch of good guest appearances including Young Jezzy, T-Pain (aka Robot), Ludacris, The Dream, Chris Brown and Missy Elliot (she’s still alive?) The CD has it’s highs and lows but for the most part you could buy it for your chick or as a birthday gift for your sister and she would like it. Or if you are a chick then you are actually going to like this and the fact that Missy Elliot is still working. Serious, Missy hasn’t done anything good post Timbaland. She needs to get some weight on her again too, I liked it when she had a fat ass.

Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band: Working on a Dream

Bruce and the boys/girls in the band are back and they are still making good music. This CD is for the real rockers across the world because I hate to admit it but Bruce Springsteen is not as popular as he once use to be even though his music continues to be great. Ah, such is life though right? I mean look at Puff Daddy or DMX, those guys fell off hard compared to Bruce. Anyways, I’ll be buying this album because I am big Jersey Boy supporter.

Franz Ferdinand: Tonight Franz Ferdinand

We’ve listened to a couple of the tracks off this album at the office over the past couple weeks and we dig this but in a different way than we dig the old Franz albums. This one seems like they are taking more risks and while it may not appease all of their older fans who want everything to sound like “Take me Out” it will be enjoyed by those that like musical growth in a band. You can tell that the band put some work into this album creatively and that really impressed us. This would be the album to buy this week if you are into modern rock and/or just rock music. It has something for everyone even if it’s not exactly what you were expecting. Don’t sleep on this album.

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez: Eye Legacy

Really? Ok I don’t want to sound like a douche bag and I’m sorry if it comes off that way but; Really? Left Eye has a album out posthumously? When I read it on the list I did a double take because she has been dead since 2002 and there was no sign that she had an album coming out. So I looked into the situation and I found that it is more of duets style album because half the songs have guest appearances. The list of artists goes like this; Chamillionaire, Bone Crusher, Missy Elliott (serious, stop fucking around do a album or eat some more food or something), Bobby Valentino, Chilli, T-Boz, Clyde McKnight, Wanya Morris, Lil Mama, Reigndrop Lopes, Free, Ryan Toby, and Claudette Ortiz. Lots of people on this album to support Left Eye. It is what it is, people hold her up like most artists taken before there time because they wonder what could have been. This album will be good because these types of albums are generally catered to the fans and not to the artist. Pick this one up if you like TLC or Left Eye.

Last night as i turned 24 the great brand puma threw a birthday party featuring DJ Rob wonder , Proton, and Killllller Mike with Bone Crusher…  now as i like to think the party was for my birthday, it wasnt for me, but for the company itself. Review: We haven’t seen or heard much from ATL rapper Bone Crusher lately besides his appearance on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club 4. Now, he is getting back to the music with this new “Planet Crusher” mixtape. The mix is brought to you by DJ Burn One and has numerous high-energy party songs, something Bone Crusher fans should be used to. Transform featuring Fabo is one of the better tracks on the tape, laid out over a Collipark beat. Crusher also teams up with Cee-Lo on Something Good. Cee-Lo is rapping on the track, which is a refreshing change from his Gnarls Barkley music. One of the hardest songs on the tape is Can’t Get No Lower where Crusher is complemented by Too Short and Pimp C. The collaboration with Mannie Fresh Put ‘Em Up is another stand out track on the tape. The high-energy vibe both rappers bring to the song works perfectly together. Perhaps the best track on the whole mix is Hollywood Nights featuring Jagged Edge and Young Que. It’s hard tolive up to the success of Boncrusher’s smash hit Never Scared, but “Planet Crusher” has a couple of sick songs worth checking out.

Legend has it that the Bone Crusher (a close cousin of the Baltimore Zoo and the Long Island Iced Tea) was first concocted by Tom Baron at a T.G.I. Friday’s in Washington D.C. just blocks from the White House in the early 90’s. It’s popularity is believed to come from the usage of Champagne or lack thereof which for many drinkers in their early to mid 20’s perceived as a classy drink that down right tasted good. Although that T.G.I. Friday’s is no longer there (you can find Tom Baron bartending @ Harry’s on E street between 11th and 12th streets NW across from the ESPN Zone), the Bone Crusher is still a favorite for most inner-city socialites throughout the Metropolitan area and can be found in any Restaurant/Bar in and outside the Capital Beltway
1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1/2 oz rum
1/4 oz grenadine syrup
1/4 oz Rose’s® lime juice
2 oz sweet and sour mix
1 oz Champagne

Combine all ingredients (except Champagne) in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Pour into a tall glass, preferably a pint glass or large brandy snifter with ice, and float the champagne on top with a squeeze of lemon. Serve.

Well Cavs fans, this is what you dream of. Sunday at 3:30, we will get our opportunity to do the unthinkable. Let’s take a second and open up our minds a bit. Can you picture what the Garden is going to look like after the Cavs pull off the biggest upset of the season? I can’t wait to see a suicidal Kevin Garnett, crying in his own sea of sweat. I can’t wait to see a shell shocked Boston crowd in complete silence, after being ruled by The King. The look of that Celtics squad is going to be a memorable one for Cavs fans Sunday afternoon. No, I am not overlooking the task at hand. I know that winning in Boston hasn’t been done this post season, but why can’t we be the first to get a win in the Garden? We pushed the Celtics to the brink of defeat in game one, and then squandered double digit leads in games two and five. If anyone can win in Boston, it’s the Cavaliers. Here are my thoughts on this Sunday’s epic matchup.

Why the Cleveland Cavaliers will win in Boston:

We have the best player on the floor at all times in LBJ.

Mike Brown might not have a clue what to do offensively, but you can’t deny the fact that his defensive schemes are the reason we are winning basketball games.

Our defense is good enough to frustrate an inexperienced team in hostile conditions.

We have momentum after winning game six.

We are the underdog with nothing to lose, and everything to gain. Remember, Boston is the number one seed that made huge roster changes with one goal…a championship. Anything less and their season is a huge failure. That’s a lot of pressure for a team who coasted through the regular season, without much resistance.

Z…I have been saying this for a few weeks now. Z wants a title worse than anyone on the floor, including Mr. James.

I believe that we are more prepared for a game 7. We clearly remember losing to Detroit in 7 games a few years back, and have grown since then. We should have learned from mistakes, and fully understand what we are getting into when we step into the gym tomorrow.

Superstars thrive in situations like this, and that’s exactly what Mr. James is, a superstar. Players like LBJ dream of playing in games this big as a little kid. Well pal, here is your time to shine.

Why the Cleveland Cavaliers WON’T win in Boston:

The Big Three outplay The Chosen One.

James is shut down, and the Cavaliers role players can’t knockdown shots.

Boston is undefeated at home in the playoffs (7-0)

The home team has won nearly 90% of games in this round of the playoffs.

Boston fans will rattle the Cavaliers and help force turnovers.

Vegas odds makers have the Cavaliers as an eight point underdog. I think that Vegas is usually pretty accurate with their lines, and this is one of my minor causes of concern.

KJ’s Keys to the Game:

Get Z going early. I would let the big man touch the ball the first five times down the floor to see if he can get us off to a hot start. We are tough to beat when Z is one of our main scorers.

Don’t turn the ball over. If James turns the ball over 8 times in game 7, he might as well get his tee time ready for Monday morning. We need to protect the ball to have a chance.

Play the same shut down defense we played in game six. I can guarantee you that we will be in contention during the final minute of the game, if we play defense like we did last night.

Our role players (West, Wally, Pavlovic) need to step up and make some shots. If we play defense and lessen the workload on LBJ, we will be headed to that scummy city of Detroit for a chance to go to the NBA Finals.

Random Thoughts:

Where is Devin Brown? He can get to the rack, and is much more capable of finishing around the basket. Sasha just gets in there, and tosses the ball off the backboard as hard as he possibly can.

Whatever happened to that offensive coordinator guy Mike Brown talked about hiring? We really need him right about now.

Boston fans have gotten to see the Sox and the Pats win titles, they don’t need to see the Celtics win one too.
